Beep command in WinAPI in VB$

Q: Beep command in WinAPI in VB$

Am using 32 bit VB4 Prof. my speakers make lots of sound when I boot to windows or something that
windows should make a sound for. Like when I use prinkey and click on Print! Thats a great screen capture utility by the way! Wouldn't that indicate that the thing Beep should be heard?. The sleep api definitely works.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hiya

May move you to Development, if it ends up being a programing thing

Have you created a program that runs on startup, or are you using one that uses VB4?

Lets have a look at whats on startup:

Go to Run and type MSINFO32
On the left choose Software Enviroment, then Startup Programs. Copy/paste the list here.

Hi,
My laptop here is a Dell Inspiron 15, 3000 series.
The laptop itself works perfectly fine, I am able to get into windows (which I installed myself, it originally came with Ubuntu).
Occasionally though, it will do a BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE BEEP BEEP BEEP PAUSE (repeats).
This happens on boot and sometimes when I am using it. Sometimes it turns off suddenly when I am shifting the computer around. It's extremely loud.

What is causing this? The sound seems to be coming from around the area the Memory banks are under the laptop, but nothing seems to suggest that anything is wrong.
I took a suggestion and used FN+Power to do Hardware Diagnostics which said nothing is wrong.

What else can I try?

Thanks!

A:Dell Inspiron 15 - 3000 series - Beep Beep Beep Pause Beep Beep Beep

Hi,
I’d suggest that you follow the steps mentioned below and check if the beep pattern repeats.

Switch off the computer.
Disconnect the AC adapter from the system.
Remove the battery from the computer.
Press and hold down the power button for 15 seconds.
Then connect back all the peripherals and check if the beep pattern repeats and reply us with the beep count.

If you still receive 3 Beeps on the system then it indicates System board failure.. You will have to replace it on the laptop.
Please let me know the findings.

Hi Ganny,
What are the exact # of beeps in a cycle?
Kindly review this chart and see page# 47 - it will help isolate the source of the issue.
Based on the exact # of beeps, that part would need to be replaced.
Also, please click my DELL-username and write me a private message with the service tag and your Name for case records.

Hello from Thailand. This is my first posting here.Just recently I've assembled my new system:--OS - Win XP Pro SP2 and IE v.6CPU - AMD Athlon 64 X2 3800+ @ 2000MHzMB - ASUS A8N-SLi Premium w/(2x1024) 2GB Corsair DDR 400MHz HDD - 300GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.9 16MB SATA-II NCQ VGA - ASUS eXtreme Nvidia GeForce N6600GT 128MB DDR3 PSU - CoolerMaster Real Power 550W Case - CoolerMaster Centurion 532 --My problem is the lack of a beep sound when I make a copy with the Ctrl-c (combination on my keyboard). It is probably related to the clipboard. I have tried (install and then uninstall) many clipboard enhancement programs. Currently, I installed a Clipboard Magic just to enable the beep (I don't actually use this program), refer to F.A.Q. at: http://www.cybermatrix.com/cmhelp.html Q. I have set the beep on copy but it never beeps when I copy text. Why? A. Assuming the volume in your speakers is turned up, try checking to make sure that the beep sound is defined. In Control Panel / Sounds / Check Sound Scheme, make sure the Default Beep is defined. e.g. "Windows XP Ding.wav"Any advice on how to enable a beep on Ctrl-c without using the Clipboard Magic. I'm using a much better clipboard utility called "CoodClip". And BTW, my system makes a lot of beeps on a variety of other actions.

How to enable Beep on Ctrl-C (copy) command to indicate a success of COPY operation.

My newly assembled system is working fine with a few exceptions:

it didn't make a beep on the Ctrl-C (copy) operation, I'm making on my keyboard. The sound in general is working and I hear lots of beeps and sounds here and there, but not on Ctrl-C (and Ctrl-V for that matter). Actually, I didn't need a beep on Ctrl-V, since I can see the result of pasting occured.

How can I enable a beep on Ctrl-C ???

A:How to enable Beep on Ctrl-C (copy) command

When reading your question it's easy to think, "keyboard" but I think we need to think "Clipboard". That's the only place that your success takes place so I think you have to look at getting an audio notification of something pasted to the clipboard. If it's pasted successfully you hear a ding, beep or fire alarm.

The curious thing to me is why? I can't recall ever having a failure with keystroke copy and paste. It would be interesting to find a reg hack that would trigger the sound.

Is the beep pattern just one short one long? Check your manual for the POST beep codes to determine what it is telling you. All POST beep codes are different so there's no way to tell unless we know exact model of your PC. The manual usually has the beep code in it, though.

A few times now my E5440 will give a low beep... then a few seconds go by, and another beep.  It just happened a minute ago - only two beeps this time.  But I think it happened a few days ago and beeped several times with the same pause of a few/several seconds in between the beeps.  It's so quiet that before I've thought I was imagining it.  But this time I was sitting in front of it typing.
There are no pop-up notifications on the screen anything is wrong, such as the 'disconnection' sound when you remove a portable HDD, or your Wi-Fi disconnects.  Nothing to indicate what the beeps mean.  The laptop is working perfectly.  Battery is fully charged.  I can hear the fan turning and changing speed but it's 2:30am here with no outside noise and I can barely hear the fan.  (I assume it would be spinning up like crazy if something were overheating.)
I'm at a loss what it means.  Does anyone know?
I'm running Windows 7 Pro 64-Bit if that matters.

Hi,

I am trying to help with a Dell Inspiron 5100.
The computer was running very slow and I've made a bit of progress resolving that. I think it needs some more RAM and I'm not sure if that could be at all related to the following.
The problem now is that after running for few hours, then shutting down, then trying to turn back on:
1. light comes on indicating computer is on
2. the computer makes 2 beeps
3. wait...black screen
4. wait...black screen
5. and so on

This does not happen everytime trying to start the computer so I'm really at a loss. I've read about overheating in this model which would seem to make sense but sometimes this will happen after the computer has been off for a day or so.

At a complete loss now.

Any assistance much appreciated!

My computer has been making this noise for quite some time now. but it would only happen once every few days so it didn't really concern me until now because its happening non stop. The noise is definitely coming from system sounds. I'm not sure if this is related but under device manager there is an unknown device which i cannot account for as i put the computer together and I'm staring in to the case rite now. there is also a yellow icon by teredo tunneling pseudo-interface (i have no idea what that is)lately my computer just seems to be working really hard when idling. the cpu is constantly spiking up to 100% usage and my hard drives seem to constantly be spinning. specscpu: intel core 2 duomobo: abit ab9ram: 1gb ddr2gfx: geforce 9800 gtx+hd: 2 seagate internal drives (1 with os) the other blank for storage. In my mind there are two possibilities. 1 i have some sort of virus. 2 some hardware is malfunctioning. either way i have no idea where to start and i was hoping someone could point me in the rite direction. Is it possible you are hearing 1 long - one short?
That might indicate a BIOS CHECKSUM error, depending on the brand of BIOS.

You can try a ClearCMOS procedure (CLRTC is the same thing):
Note all your current BIOS settings
Shut down the computer > remove the power cord.
Remove the 3v motherboard battery.
Move the CLRTC jumper from pins 1-2 to 2-3.
Touch a metal part of the case and Press and Hold the reset button for approx. 30 seconds to discharge all power from the board.
Put the CLRTC jumper back on pins 1-2.
Replace the 3v battery > replace the power cord > boot.
Immediately go back into BIOS and reset all your preferred settings. If the CLRTC worked you will need to reset the date and time.

Hi, Today I replaced my old graphics card with a new GeForce 9500GT and also added a new Kingston 2GB Ram Card. I installed both of them then restarted the computer, since then it has only powered on and playing 1 short beep then 1 long beep. I've tryed everything I can think of ranging from taking out everything new and putting it back to before I added the new items to completely taking out all 3 RAM sticks and reseating them. I'm not sure how a brand new unopened 2GB ram stick that fit perfectly and a brand new right out of the box graphics card can cause a problem like this. I've been through the ins and outs of the internet trying to find a solution but nothing has worked. Hoping someone can think of a unique way to fix this or how it could have possibly happened in the first place. I dont buy anything used everything placed inside my computer was/is brand new when it was purchased. Any help/comments on solutions would be greatly appreciated thanks.

Hello,

Windows XP, Service Pac 3

I just had a "search engine redirect issue" fixed by "Gringo." One thing that is different now is at windows start-up, this laptop makes a BEEP TIC (Higher in frequency than the BEEP) vs the BEEP BEEP sounds I've had for ever. The computer start-up sequence is very slow as it takes minutes before the computer is ready to be used.

During the virus removal, a few times the reboot start-up sounds were BEEP - TIC - BEEP (again the TIC was higher a higher tone and faster than the BEEPs). What do the different sounds mean?

I'll start another thread requesting help to fix my computer problems.

I just got new asus AM2 mobo and I'm getting beeps on start. 1 long beep and two short. Somewhere I found it is related to video card. I'm not sure if that's true, but I know videocard is functional and inserted correctly.
The mobo has it's own video, so I tried using only that, same thing. It just doesn't seem to make sense.

A:Beeeep, beep beep

One long two short looks like a video issue, as you said. You say it is also happening when you remove the graphics card and try to boot up with the onboard graphics?

Here's what I'd do:

Remove the motherboard from the case and set it on a box beside your case. Next, reset cmos (check your manual to find the cmos jumper pins).

Remove everything from the motherboard except:

cpu with heatsink/fan
one stick of ram
power supply connections to the motherboard (should be two)
connect the case's speaker to the motherboard

Then use a screwdriver to quickly touch (short) the two pins that usually connect to your case's power on switch.

See what kind of beeps you get.

If you still get the beeps, my guess is your need to RMA the board, but please post your system's full specs (including your power supply specs)

Good luck!

I just got a strange reaction from my pc. It was working fine last night, I went to start, turn off computer, shut down and went to bed. I got up this morning and I saw a notice on the screen (PC did not shut down during the night) It said there was a change to the global template for microsoft word and did I want to save changes so I said no and the pc shut down. Later on I tried to call up my key logger and heard a beeping noise from within my pc. I paid it no attention and went on the rest of the day working. I was using Quicken later on and noticed that when I tried to view certain graphs they seemed to be "fluttering" (The page seemed to go up and down rapidly on its own) I closed it and ran Avast antivirus scan. I tried to activate it and got an error message that said it ran into some kind of runtime error (I think) I finly got it started, ran a scan and came up empty of viruses. Then Avast kept shutting itself off. I emptied my waste basket, went to internet options, deleted all files and history (Including online content) then cleared all in Firefox. Next I went to start, run msconfig, start up disable all, restart, back to start, run, msconfig, enable all, reboot and everything seems to be fine now. Can anyone tell me what this may have or still is?

The beep sequence refers to the CMOS battery - or the clock chip.  Replace the reserve (CMOS) battery -- it's usually a CR-2032 button cell.  If you need details, post the model number (i.e., Inspiron N5110, XPS 9333, etc.).

this was happening with CMD.EXE earlier today using any command, but i thought this was a separate issue, apparently not

also running cmd.exe from (start menu>run) ...Now CMD WILL NOT even open.

I ran norton full sys scan and nothing.

I hope I dont have a virus that has yet to be defined. (fingers crossed).

So in essence the command.com (command interpreter) now shows the win-ding font or some other sort of encryption,

and cmd.exe (command shell) wont even open now.

I have internet access ok, and all other apps seem to be running fine.

Its almost as if someone, some process, or some app does not want me to be able to see what Im connected to in real time by using the netstat -a command. (am i going to conspiracy here? lol ... Read more

I am writing a VBA macro in Excel and have hit a wall. I am trying to get excel to open a command prompt and make it execute a command. The problem I am having is if I try to do anything but open another program, it throws an error back at me.

I can open the command prompt using:
Code:
Call Shell("cmd.exe" & dosCmd, vbNormalFocus)
I can also open Acrobat which is the program I need using:
Code:
Shell "C:\program files\adobe\acrobat 9.0\acrobat\acrobat.exe", vbNormalFocus
However if I simply wanted to open a PDF file, I have the code to that without opening a command prompt.

I need to open the PDF document on a specific page, and to my knowledge the only way to do this (apart from manually) is to use the command prompt. However I have no idea how to get VBA to put the command in the command prompt, hit enter and then close the prompt.

There are 2 commands that need to be executed in DOS (I'm not sure if there is a way to combine the commands)

They are:

Code:
cd c:\program files\adobe\acrobat 9.0\acrobat
and

Code:
start acrobat.exe /A "page=10=Open Actions" "M:\Full Scores\allegro.pdf
These open the pdf document called allegro on page 10.

I am completely stuck. Out of ideas. I've searched the length and breadth of the internet and can find nothing to point me in the right direction. So I was hoping one of you fine people could. Thank you so much, James

When I am told to go to START/SEARCH and type in COMMAND, so I can RUN as Admin, it finds neither COM.exe or COMMAND.exe so I can "Run as Admin" in the DOS windows. It use to.

I do have a RUN command that will bring up the DOS window but when executing some commands like CHKDSK it tells me I have to run as ADMIN.

Any recommendations on how to fix this issue? I have GHOST/Virtual CD/DVD drives I cant get rid of and this Forum has a solution but I need that Command.exe as Admin.

For example: the page on GHOSTS DVD/CD says to first run sfc /scannow

When it runs it says "You must run as Admin"

But I do not know how to make it ADMIN except to right click on COMMAND/COM and select "Run as Admin" after I find the file COMMAND/COM.

Thanks

It is "cmd" that you should be typing in search.

Hello everyone,

I am not sure if I am at the correct forum, so if I am wrong I would appreciate if you can redirect me to the wright one.

Here is my question, I am using windows 8.1 enterprise version and I am trying to configure spark. When I apply this configuration it works fine in Windows 7 versions but in Windows 8.1 when we try to execute the command to start the application it shows the
following message

'cmd' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.
This happen because spark need to create several instances to start working as expected, but windows 8.1 don't create the instances because it does't find the cmd command in the Windows 8.1, if we run a cmd command in Windows 7 or if you execute the command
prompt as an administrator in Windows 8.1 it will create a new instance in the same command prompt.
Below I will attached some examples:
1) If I execute the command prompt and try to execute the command cmd
and it display the following:
C:\Users\asolanoa>cmd
'cmd' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file.

C:\Users\asolanoa>

2) If I execute the command prompt as an administrator and try to execute the command
cmd it will work as expected, creating the new instances:
C:\windows\system32>cmd
Microsoft Windows [Version 6.3.9600]

C:\windows\system32>

Hi everyone, what is the commmand for command prompt to stop a process? What i would like to do is make a shortcut to stop the KBD.exe process. The reason for that is when someone in my family puts a disk in, plays a game, and sometimes when they take the disk out it complains about there being no disk in the drive. The only way to shut it up is to end the process in the task manager and click cancel on the window. This way is a little to complicated for some of the memebers of my family and i would like to be able to just create a shortcut for it.

Click on Start, then run
type in cmd to get to command prompt
type in taskkill /f kbd.exe

The forward slash /f forces it to kill the process.

Hello everyone

Recently a problem has arisen with my system.

Previously I have been doing work that requires me to unplug my network connection and I need to check my IP address each time I plug it in again. I guess it's not set for static IP.
Anyways to do this I usually go into Command Prompt and type 'ipconfig'

Now however I just get "'ipconfig' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file".

The directory is the same as its always been, I can change it but it doesn't seem to matter what it is.

I've checked many other posts and is there something possibly wrong with my PATH variable? I used the command 'echo %PATH%' and it works, the list it gives is very garbled however.

I'm not sure what might have made this problem arise, but I would greatly appreciate any help.

Thanks!

Hello,

I'm trying to split a .flv file by using flvparse, which is a Windows-only, command-line interface tool. I did get through to the directory by following instructions posted on another forum, however, command prompt doesn't seem to recognize the the .exe file. I'm an absolute novice at this, any help would be really appreciated!

Attaching a CP s/s, and here are the instructions I'm trying to follow (copy pasted from the forum)

FLVPARSER

For trimming the beginning and/or ending of videos, you can use FLVParser (http://dev2.avacast.com/FLVparser.zip ).
FLVParser is a Windows-only, command-line interface tool. After you unzip it, move its folder to C:\ for ease of use. Also for ease of use, copy/move the .flv file you wish to edit into the FLVParse folder.
To make edits, you need to know the in and out points where you want the edits. Use FLVPlayer to find these points. FLVPLayer only lists times in total number of seconds, not HH:MM:SS, but don't worry, FLVParser can handle that. In the FLVParse directory create a new blank text file called: CuePointFile.dat
This is the file FLVParser uses to edit from. Open it in NotePad, and enter the in point and out point, separated by a single blank space, like so: 2525 5150
Save, and close the file. Open up the command line interface and go to the FLVParse directory: cd C:\FLVParse
In the command line, enter this to edit the flv:
flvparse.exe FileToSplit.flv CuePointFile.dat
Your file will be split into ... Read more

You are using the basic cmd, try in elevated mode

However looking at you screen shot, you may have to check the command over carefully. There does appear to be an error in the command. With my eyes, it is difficult at times to pick out the subtle shades of difference.

I have Windows XP on my computer, and when I try to ping something through the command prompt (command.com), this shows up:

C:\WINDOWS\system32\command.com
The NTVDM CPU has encountered an illegal instruction.
CS:0f23 IP:010c OP:c4 f6 06 a9 02 Choose 'Close' to terminate the application

Running tracert also has the same problem.
If I try running ping or tracert through cmd.exe, it stalls and doesn't do anything. I have to close the program because it doesn't respond.
I can use ipconfig in both cmd.exe and command.com. Do I have a virus on my computer, or is there a way to repair the command prompt? I've attached a HijackThis log file.
