Trackpoint middle button refuses to set to scroll ...

Q: Trackpoint middle button refuses to set to scroll ...

I guess I need to stop installing drivers... I unstalled the latest Synaptics UltraNav drivers for my X1 yoga today as advertised by System Update (Thinkvantage and companion). Now it's super-finicky, difficult to scroll on the trackpad, but even worse I can't set the middle button on the trackpoint to scroll anymore! It just resets to "middle-click" in Lenovo Settings. I'm a bit beside myself because now I have a yoga that does not yoga (touchscreen does not work after updates) and now I can't even consistantly scroll I tried to uninstall it as per the readme that came with the update but that does not even work, complaining that a dll file is not a valid windows application.

Preferred Solution: Trackpoint middle button refuses to set to scroll ...

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey folks, The middle button for trackpoint doesn't work. All drivers are up to date. Middle button is enabled for scrolling, not clicking. Middle button works when switched over for clicking. It just randomly stopped working last week, but it works when I switch it over to clicking in the settings tool. Any ideas? Thanks

Hi,

On my X1Y3 it started about a month ago.  Bascially after anywhere from 5-30 minutes of the computer turning on my trackpoint icon gets stuck with the middle scrolling point icon anytime im in a text field.  It acts like the middle track point buttoin is depressed even when its not.  see below picture circled in yellow.  This is not related to a specific browser.  It happens in Chrome, IE and Edge.  Synaptics driver version 19.3.4.224.  I updated to the current driver about 3 weeks ago when this problem 1st started.  It happened on the prior driver too.

Currently my TrackPoint middle button does scrolling as desired but when I release it, it pops up a right-click menu.  I can't figure out how to turn off the right-click functionality.  Any ideas? I believe I have fully explored the entire Mouse properties dialog from Control Panel, including the advanced one with the special TrackPoint options.  I tried any option that looked even vaguely related, and nothing helped. Thanks in advance!

Hi Lenovo, Currently the Trackpoint's middle button can only do either scrolling or middle mouse button click in Windows. This behavior can be set in lenovo vantage or mouse settings. Could you provide option to enable both scrolling and middle mouse click functions at same time? In linux this is already supported out of the box for a long time. The only workaround in windows is by using third party software called TPMiddle, but this software only works with Synaptics trackpoint, it doesn't work with Elan or ALPS trackpoint.

Yes, there was a post several years ago describing this same issue which was supposedly fixed with an update of the Synaptics driver.  However, I am seeing this issue again on my X270 Windows 10 x64 Pro with latest driver version 19.3.4.219. If I set the mouse pointer size to something larger than default "1" it stays at the larger size until I use the trackpoint middle button to scroll.  the pointer then shrinks back down to size "1".  Just as with the previous report of this issue if I set the middle button function to "click" rather than "scroll" the pointer retains its larger size.  I constantly use trackpoint scrolling so that is not really a fix for me. Has anyone else seen this issue recently and perhaps found a fix that allows continued use of trackpoint scrolling with a larger pointer? Thanks.

Hi and thanks for looking.

I rarely ever use IE, im more of a firefox and opera person.
Long story short, im looking for a way to hopefully make the middle mouse scroll wheel / button be able to open a clicked link up in a new window automatically.
Just like firefox does.

NOTE: I am reffering to IE6 and not IE7, that has tabs and what not...I never seen the need to update it to IE7 since i dont use it
I know i put the word "tab" in the title, but thats just for helping other searchers find my post if its relative.

Any and all suggestions are greatly appreciated.

A:Make IE middle click / scroll button open link in new window / tab

Hi squeezin

You will need to upgrade to Internet Explorer 7 to get that option.

Check the Mouse options in the Control Panel to see if your mouse has additional options for the Wheel or middle button.

Dunno when it happened, months ago, but on my win7 64b folders my middle mouse button and the arrow at the end of the Scrollbar doesn't scroll to the right when in list mode.

In Details View, Large Icons View, etc the scrolling works up/down properly, only in List View which is left/right it only scrolls to the left using the mouse or by clicking on the left arrow on the scrollbar. So the only way i have to scroll to the right in a folder on list view is to either navigate the files or use the bar on the scrollbar.

This is super annoying since my preferred view is list.

If anybody knows of a fix please share.

Thanks

Well have you installed any sort of explorer tweak or shell in the past that might have interfered with the default behavior?
Else you should try some registry fixers because it seems like this is either an issue with your register or with the "explorer.exe" application.

Just received my yoga and downgraded to windows 7, even with the vertical scroll set to one line, the trackpoint is very sensitive. Also there is a initial lag with the trackpoint scroll, if I'm using the trackpoint for the first after a webpage turn, the first light touch is not registered, you have move the trackpoint very hard, which caused the page to move very fast down the page. Overall using the trackpoint on the yoga 460 (maybe with W10, it is different), has been an aweful experience so far, is there a patch or update that I didn't know about? Btw, I have Elan pointing device installed, I can not find Ultranav anymore, why is that? Elan pointing device seem to have less function than Ultranav.

Hello, Is there a way to have both - scrolling with trackpoint while holding the middle mouse button - and - being able do a middle click with the middle mouse button? I can accomplish this easily under Linux like it is described here. But under Windows it seems to be impossible. I can only have either middle clicking or trackpoint scrolling. I need both.  If anyone knows a solution to this please let me know. Walter (I have a X200s and Windows 7 x64 installed)

I would like to use the trackpoint as a proper middle click instead of the (also useful) proprietary scroll mode. Basically same problem as discussed here: http://superuser.com/questions/91074/thinkpad-trackpoint-scrolling-and-middle-click-possible However that article seems a little old. The synaptics control panel on the W540 seems to be markedly different and I cannot for the life of me find out where to disable that or set the middle  click to be a regular middle click. Could someone please advise?

Hey,
had a HP w1907v for a few months now. About 2 months into using it (wasn't new, but was barely used) I started encountering this problem with certain games, usually newer ones. The monitor goes to sleep of it's own accord and doesn't turn back on; this also crashes the computer, although not immediately, I could hear dialogue from Sleeping Dogs for about a minute after the monitor turned itself off. It's worth noting that the monitor going to sleep while I was playing a game wasn't happening initially. This problem usually occurs within about 10-20 minutes game time. Out of my library of games thus far the only ones to do it are Empire Total War, Dawn of War II: Retribution and Sleeping Dogs, but I haven't tried a lot of my games with this monitor since the problem began as of yet. I've tried messing around with resolution settings and this seemed to work with Dawn of War II, but not with Sleeping Dogs (which is odd considering I used the same resolution as I did to fix DOWII) and I haven't attempted this with Empire Total War yet. A few games have been working without a hitch: Dawn of War I, Mount and Blade, Hearts of Iron III, TF2, etc. Can anyone help me out? I've only just bought Sleeping Dogs, and only being able to get 10 minutes into the story after paying for it is really frustrating me.
Thanks,
Callum

A:Monitor goes to sleep and refuses to turn back on in middle of certain games

Bump:
Ok, so I tried a friend's monitor on my PC; exact same problem. Tried running a defrag to fix it; didn't work. Tried installing drivers for my monitor again and it refused to install correctly, the install just finished completely without doing anything. I'm kind of stabbing in the dark here, does anyone have any idea what's causing this? I think it can now be narrowed down to a problem with my pc, most likely graphics card related.

All,  I recently picked up a Gen 1 X1 Carbon for a part time employee I'm hiring to help out.  We currently have a Gen 3 and Gen 4 and plenty of Thinkpads dating back to the T23 days.  I've had similar issues in the past but always found the option to set the middle button to not be stuck in scroll.  I've done some searching and tried the registry change some have talked about and double checked/reinstalled the drivers. Whats strange is that it seems to be identifying the sytem falsly. Under the ThinkPad tab in mouse properties it doesn't give me the normal options (as the gen 3 and 4 do) and the screen shots show the gen 2 style track point system with out dedicated buttons. All are running windows 10 and are up to date as far as I can tell.   Any help would be appreciated.

When the mouse pointer hovers over the flash player, mouse wheel does not scroll until the pointer is outside the player. If I click in the player, I have to click outside before I can scroll again.

First it only happened with some versions of JW Player... Now it also happens with all YouTube players.
Adobe Flash Player (Shockwave Flash, as listed by FF Plugins) 9.0 r124.
Firefox 3.0.1, Windows XP SP3, standard mouse.

It doesn't affect IE, Safari or Flock.

It happens in FF safe mode.
It also happens with FF 3.1 Alpha 1 and FF Portable 3.0, but NOT with FF Portable 2.0.
I have already uninstalled/reinstalled Flash 9.
I have also tried uninstalling Flash 9 and installing 8 and 10 Beta. It didn't work, so now it's 9 again.

I don't know why the YouTube behavior changed. One morning it started occuring in most embedded players; by evening non-embedded players were also affected.
The need to click outside before scrolling did only appear after I re-installed Flash.
I didn't tamper (much) with my system those days.
Google says it was a classic bug of FF2 in Linux, solved with FF3. I found nobody with this problem on Windows.
Any help would be really REALLY appreciated, guys. I'm pulling my hair out here.

Hey! I'm quite happy with my new P1 2nd Gen, except the pointing devices suck. Lenovo seems to have switched the TrackPoint to ALPS which comes very stiff, choppy and inaccurate. I played around with udev rules and acceleration settings which made it a bit better, but it is still far from the awesome accuracy and smoothness of the W540, my last machine. Same with the three buttons on top of the TrackPad - especially the left one doesn't react reliably when hit on the lower right corner. I have to press a second time every ten clicks or so. This definitely sucks, so my question is: Is anyone aware of other manufacturers/options of especially TrackPoints and TouchPad-buttons for the P1 apart from ALPS? BestMarkus

What should i do?

I haven't used the Razer driver with my Lachesis for a long while. It certainly won't hurt.

You could also try reseting the mouse to factory defaults (hold the profile button for 10secs). *nb it will remove all macros, assignments, poll rate settings etc

or the whole hog: uninstall Rzaer control panel, driver and do a factory reset.

If it still doesn't work - It could simply be the mouse is on it's way out.

A:Middle mouse button functionality in a laptop

I searched a lot for the answer to this problem and at last I figured it out.

You have the middle mouse button and more in your laptop. You must have to unlock all of these features. Go to control panel and then select mouse. Here go to the last option on the left "device settings". Then inside the device settings you will see "settings". Now explore all the options and you will see that you can do so many things with your touchpad including th middle mouse function
