Q: "My Computer" screen pops up when online

I am using Windows XP and My Computer screen pops up when switching between websites. Could this be a trojan? I ran my Norton Anti-Virus and it does not detect anything? THANKS!

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

HIJACK THIS:
Try not to reboot
Currently the Spyware identified by the security experts and especially the morphing and breeding .exe`s in the new variants of CWS, after every re-boot required by Ad-Aware and Spybot etc, just spawns more and more files for the poster to find and delete. This is making the advice the security experts give just too hard to follow.
One of the security experts recently had one log with over a hundred files, they guy had to format c: drive.

Download and copy hijackthis to its own folder , it makes backups so keeping them separate and available can be useful.

Note the Spyware tools websites are very often under attack and so I have provided more than 1 location to download from:

http://www.tomcoyote.org/hjt/
http://209.133.47.200/~merijn/downloads.html
http://www.thespykiller.co.uk/
http://www.sherrylynn.us/privacypolicy (this has an older version 1.97 - if you can get to other sites)

Close all open windows and open Hijack This. Click “Scan”. When the scan is finished (it only takes a second), the scan button will change to “Save Log”.
Click on “Save Log” and then save it to NotePad.
Click on “Edit” – “Select all” – “copy” and then “paste” into the thread.
DO NOT FIX ANYTHING wait advice from one of the many security experts in this forum.

I currently do not have the skill/competence to advise and poor advice can be far more damaging to your PC with this software, and so I will be unable to add any advice on the log and so will nolonger be replying to your post with regards to the HJT issue, so please have patience and wait for one of the secruity experts to provide further detailed advice

i will however, be notified when you post the log

Help - I'm running Windows 7 Home premium. About three weeks ago, when waking from a sleep mode, the monitor would make a slight popping sound, then would flash the monitor logo several times before the home screen appeared.

This problem is worsening -- and is now happening on startup too, i.e., the monitor will pop and flash its logo for several minutes before the computer is ready.

I have had trouble-shooting suggestions from HP that involved resetting the screen saver, resetting sleep mode, and doing a system restore -- none of those seemed to help my problem.

Any suggestions?

The "Turn Off Computer" window pops up every few seconds (this is the window that you normally access from the "start" button - bottom left on the monitor). When this happens it only stays up for half a second and then it flashes off and all the icons on the desktop disappear for about 4-5 seconds and then they reappear. In addition to that my Norton Internet Secuity 2005 self shutdown (or don't start) at the beginning. I didn't download/launch any suspicious file but I begin to think it's a virus, and if so, how could I deal with it?

Thank you in advance.

I have a window that pops up when I start up my computer, that seems to have started after an unsuccessful update of Roxio EZ CD creater. The update finally took, but when I start up a window pops up titled "Common" with one folder "bin" inside.

I can just shut down the window, but it is an annoyance.

Ok where do I begin?! I have been dealing with viruses, spyware/malware for the past week. It all started with Norton advising me that I had been infected with Trojan. Vundo and Trojan.Zonebac. After that I started receiving many different pop ups warning me about critical system alerts. I also had an annoying yellow triangle at the bottom of my screen warning me about different trojans and worms. More evil friends included 2 new icons that had made their home on my desktop one named "Live Safety Center" and the other "Online Security Guide", also installed was a new toolbar named "Security Toolbar 7.1". I have scanned my computer with many different programs and have somehow finally managed to get rid of the pop ups and toolbar, although I know I'm probably still infected somewhere. I'm sorry this is so long but, I wanted to explain EVERYTHING! I'm running Windows XP SP2, and have followed all steps to post. I downloaded DSS, but after many attempts to run, it just wouldn't let me. I do have a fresh hijackthis log and my Panda report, I hope this is good enough.
Many thanks in advance to whomever helps me, I am desperate!

Hey everyone,
I am trying to get the REST queries to work with the sharepoint end points instead of graph end points. I first created an app with relevant permissions and have given it the admin consent. Then I am hitting the https://login.microsoftonline.com/<tenant>.onmicrosoft.com/oauth2/token?Content-Type=application/x-www-form-urlencoded end
point with https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com as resource. I am then using the access token retrieved to give the rest call to https://<tenant>.sharepoint.com/_api/v2.0/drives/b!3indYSbqZ0-hVSPnCgIZy-2xDMh7jH9AuQnEzJMc6TEfQoSJvJT-R6tT0lFBQiPr/root/delta
but it is failing with "error":{"code":"generalException","message":"General exception while processing"}}. The REST response code is 401 Unauthorized. I have filed a Microsoft support ticket but they
have asked me to post on these forms. Can someone please help me with this? I am not able to move forward because the error is pretty generic and doesn't give any additional details.
Thanks,

I did follow MicroBell's 5 Step process and the Panda scan said that no virus could be found. Hello All,

I just received a brand new computer a few days ago from CyberPower PC. I've attached the specs below.

That being said, I noticed a problem when I was "in a game" and within an hr, the fan revved up, and the computer shut down to black screen (monitor read "no input"). Thinking this was a one-off, I tried again, and the same symptoms persist - after playing for some time, the screen goes blank (no error messages), the fan rev's up, and requires a hard reboot. As an FYI, I paid Cyberpower to OC this computer for me. No error message whatsoever.

Next, during one of the "hard reboots", a message popped up before windows that said the setting were unstable, and that I had to reduce my clock speed down - so I clicked accept (there were no other options to potentially ignore this message).

Here are the steps I've taken to date:
1. Upgrade the MOBO / GPU drivers.
2. Plugged the system directly into the outlet to ensure adequate power (as opposed to power bar).
3. Ensured RAM and GPU was seated properly.
4. Ran MEMTEST - no issues.
5. Ran Prime 95 -> Torture Test -> Blend - Causes a "FATAL ERROR" every time as per below:

"FATAL ERROR: Rounding was 0.5, expected less than 0.4"
"Hardware failure detected - consult stress.txt file"
Torture Test Completed 181 Tests in 2 hrs 57 minutes - 1 error, 0 warnings" .

Seems like a thermal shutdown to me. When CPU/GPU overheats, the system either reduces their clock in order to cool them down or does a hard shutdown to protect the hardware. You said you OCed your hardware. Make sure that your are running the CPU/GPU at stock clocks and not overcloking them and also make sure the cooling system is working properly (ie, the fans) and air is flowing good. I need help. The last 6 months have been one thing after another. Most resent to join the circus are ads playing even when I do not have an internet browser up and when I do plays over other things I may be watching or doing.
My home page search options change on own (trovi. Bing), search program and other various programs self install...at start-up or randomly when the computer is powered on. I now HATE Bing.
I get pop-ups at start-up that say a config. error occurred and others. I think all started when my son downloaded his games via a program called steam. They have been uninstalled but still having issues.
I completely got rid of Modzilla... Crome & IE are what I am using but both have ad issues (no extensions /add-ons show) when I try to follow the instructions to get rid of ads. Example: CouponDropDown ... It is also not showing in programs list.

Hi, Welcome to TSG!!

If you still need help please post a HJT log.

Save HJTInstall.exe to your desktop.
Doubleclick on the HJTInstall.exe icon on your desktop.
By default it will install to C:\Program Files\Trend Micro\HijackThis .
Click on Install.
It will create a HijackThis icon on the desktop.
Once installed, it will launch Hijackthis.
Click on the Do a system scan and save a logfile button. It will scan and the log should open in notepad.
Click on "Edit > Select All" then click on "Edit > Copy" to copy the entire contents of the log.
Come back here to this thread and Paste the log in your next reply.
DO NOT have Hijackthis fix anything yet. Most of what it finds will be harmless or even required.

Also note that I have deleted your second post, let's keep the language clean, ok?

You may want to reinstall the operating system.

Backupthe files that are importantto you before you reinstall.

The "New" installation will overwrite the current one

If you do not format your hard drive before the reinstall the installation should not harm your files (That's why I suggest backingup your files) and will speed up the installation process.

In Windows XP, fully updated, I have several folders full of mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

But all the figures in the "Duration" column appear to be in "hours" and "minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03", but what I want is "minutes" and "seconds".

Any thoughts as to how to change this?

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I'm not the only person to have this problem. I received a private message from a member of another forum where I posted about this problem several weeks ago. That person also has the same problem with the duration field.

The tech guys on that forum were unable to find the source... Read more

I'm trying to fix my brother's computer after he opened a trojan attached to an email. The email was the one saying your credit card had been charged for airline tickets.

The computer is a Dell Dimension 3100 running Windows XP SP2.

The first problem is that after normal login there is a blue screen with a yellow window in the window with the message

"Warning! Spyware detected on your computer! Install an antivirus or spyware remover to clean your computer."

There are no icons visible. The only action I can perform is CTL-ALT-DEL to bring up the Windows Task Manager. I told my brother to start in Safe Mode from which he scanned the computer using AVG Free Edition which was installed before the infection. This did not fix the problem.

Starting Safe Mode I now get a black screen with Safe Mode in the corners and the operating system name at top. The blue login screen then comes up with Administrator and my brothers account. I click on Administrator and I get the same black screen as before with Safe Mode in the corners and the writing at top. My brothers account does the same. There are no icons or Start button visible.

Again, the only program I can bring up is the Windows Task Manager. Using that, I managed to install and run SmitfraudFix which was given as a solution to "Spyware detected" screen. After rebooting this did not fix the problem. I also installed SpyHunter 3.5.11 which found Zlob.Trojan, Rogue.AntivirusXP 2008 plus some other ... Read more

Howdy everybody!
When I hit the Windows & Print Screen keys, it is supposed to generate a picture of my Desktop into a Folder, within Pictures, labelled “Screenshots.”
But there is no such "ScreenShots" folder there!
What should I do? If I simply create a new folder, and label it “Screenshots,” will do that do the trick?  Or is there a more complicated fix?
Your help would be appreciated. Thanks!

My AOC E1621SWB monitor always say "Input not Support" after the Windows 7 logo... I tried running it in Safe mode and every other option i have but still it says the same thing...

I Installed the 64 bit with the Custom option because i like to build it from the ground up.. after some percent of Installation, of course my PC restarted and boom that's where the dreadful "Input not Support" message came... I tried Plugging in and out the VGA cable, the power plug and turning on and off the monitor but nothing works...
I don't know if it has any connection with the Win7 installation but as far as i can remember this was the first time it happened.

I have checked msconfig and the only programs there under the startup tab work just fine. I looked at the start/all programs/startup folder and its empty. This unknown shell of some program (just a blue box image) used to pop up very seldomly on boot up, but now seems to pop up every 3 or 4 days and the image now stays there for several minutes whereas it used to disappear after 3 or 4 seconds. How can I trace it to delete it? Done all the virus scans etc.

A:"ghost" image of unknown program pops up occasionally on boot up?

You could try this method of finding where the program file is located. Download Home Folder from this page

Put a shortcut to Home Folder in your startup so it will be in the tray after Windows starts. If the mystery window displays, click on it to give it the focus. Press hotkeys Shift-NumPadSubtract (hold down a shift key while pressing the minus key on the number pad.) If it can, Home Folder will get the location of the exe file that owns the window. This should at least give a clue what it is and where it is.

Hi,

I'm trying to fix my sister's new computer before she heads to college. When you type, "=78y5" automatically enters into whichever box your typing in (including this one) and causes windows media player to open. It has done it 6 times since I started typing this. The first time it did this, a XXX video popped up. I deleted the video but the code keeps coming up and opening the player every 10 seconds of typing -- it basically makes the computer unusable. Also, it periodically looks like it's scanning the page (the text flickers as it scans down). I've run Spybot and McAfee in safe mode and they both turn up nothing. I even took the computer to Toshiba and they reset it to facory settings and it didn't wipe this thing out. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

My company is using a web application in Internet Explorer 11 for our business from many different locations around the country.  In some locations with slower network connections, the application naturally takes longer to download the data it
needs.
If the user get impatient and clicks again (which users often do), IE 11 pops up that yellow bar across the bottom that says "AbcServer is not responding".  The bar includes a "Recover Webpage" button and an X to just close it.
If the user just waits, the application actually works.
It seems like the user won't get the "not responding" message until about 10 seconds of waiting, and then it happens only if they click somewhere in the IE window again.
Can this timeout value be adjusted?  If we wanted to suppress the "not responding / Recover webpage" message for say 30 or 45 seconds, is there an IE configuration option for doing this?
I found an article that suggested changing this registry value:  HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings
( In this subkey, add a ReceiveTimeout DWORD entry that has a value of (<number of seconds>)*1000 )

We tried this suggestion but it did not suppress that "not responding / Recover webpage" yellow bar from popping up after about 10 seconds for an impatient user.

A:IE 11 - Web Application on slow network - Is timeout adjustable before "Recover Webpage" pops up?

Hi Joe,
It's not recommended you change its default value. If you still want to change its default keep-alive timeout value,

try this:
1.Click Start, click Run, type regedit, and then click OK.
2.Locate and then click the following key in the registry:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\InternetSettings
3.On the Edit menu, point to New, and then click DWORD Value.
4.Type KeepAliveTimeout, and then press ENTER.
5.On the Edit menu, click Modify.
6.Type the appropriate time-out value (in milliseconds), and then click OK. For example, to set the time-out value to two minutes, type 120000.
7.Restart Internet Explorer.

I can't think of anything else that was done to change my computer. I have Windows set to install only important updates. I have Norton 360 as my antivirus software.

A:IE 11 "preparing to install" pops up quickly and disappears

Which version of Internet explorer did you have before this popup started ?

A:Just browsing the web and a "recommended update" pops up Virus?

Sure sounds like a virus to me. I would ignore it and do a full virus scan to make sure your PC is clean.
