Device connection sound is heard every 15-20 seconds

Q: Device connection sound is heard every 15-20 seconds

I have a very annoying thing that seems to have popped up in the last 2 days or so. I installed Win 10 on my custom built computer about a week ago and it has been working just fine. Then about two days ago I started getting the sound that it makes when you connect a USB drive to the port or some other device. It goes non-stop, sounding off every 15-20 seconds. I checked my device manager and nothing is changing there. There is something that pops up in the tray in the lower right but it disappears so fast that I can't see what it is. I have no idea what is causing this but it's driving me crazy. If anyone else knows what might be causing this, I would be most interested in hearing how to resolve it.

EDIT: resolved. I had a usb hard drive hooked up in back that I didn't know was connected.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Running XP Pro. Suddenly, while surfing I randomly hear the sound associated with Device Connect (as designated via the Sound panel). There should be no devices connecting! Ive run Avast and TDS-3 scans and all appears normal. Im seeing some funky ports listening via netstat - 1025-6 and 3001-3. Any ideas what may be causing this? Kinda scary.

Hey all.

I'm new here, but I've already perused and successfully employed several suggestions you've all made and I'm hoping that someone has some idea for this. I have a Compaq Presario 8000 with a Pentium 4, and have installed no additional hardward since purchase.

So my problem: after a series of serious issues, including 8 systems restores in one weekend, we are mostly up and running again. Except for sound.

All we get is that nasty little "system critical" beep out of the box. The speakers are on, plugged in, volume up, unmuted, and working. I have done everything except open the box and yank the soundcard out to try and fix this. I have tried all the troubleshooting suggestions, I have downloaded a new driver, and rolled back the old one.

Additionally, I cannot figure out what soundcard I have. The computer, as I said, came from HP/Compaq put together with everything we picked out. I have hunted through some of the paperwork, but can't find the components list... yet.

Thanks for your help in advance!
(Just as an aside, we have a 7 year old HP that is sitting in storage that I know has a soundcard in it... in desperation, do you think that would work?)

I'm really very sorry to make this post since I can't be more precise with the problem. But, I can't seem to get any sound out of my PC and I'm really at a loss to know how to fix it.

I bought this PC from a fairly reputable store in downtown Toronto about a year ago. Let me first tell you the PC's specs:

Intel Core 2 Duo E7300, nVidia 9800GT 512MB DDR3, 2GB (2x1GB) DDR2 800, 500GB HDD SATA, 18X DVD-Writer :RTGS001359.

I am really very sorry. But I don't know hardly very much at all about hardware and drivers and installing drivers. I have always worked with software and I guess I'm just out of touch with hardware.

When I bought this PC, it came with two driver CDs. The first CD is labelled FOXCONN and has a web address on the CD of: www.foxconnchannel.com. I'm guessing this first CD is the hardware driver and includes the sound drivers. The second CD seems to be for my video card. It is labelled Nvidia GEForce. For some reason, I do recall that there were some sound installation routines on this second CD as well as the first. Does that make any sense? Could it be possible that the Sourd drivers actually do exist on both CDs?

Anyway, I bought this PC about a year ago and I recall that when I originally did the driver installation, I had to install them both twice.

The hardware installation consisted of three components and it offered me the choice of installing all three at one time - or installing them each - one at a time. I ... Read more

Hey... for some reason this Shockwave/Flashwave game does not have sound of any sort. When I first played the game it did have noise. Eventually the sound/audio disappeared.

My computer is a Dell with Windows 7. I play the game on Mozilla FireFox. Everything else works well with sound. Youtube sound works like normal and every other thing works normal aswell.

I was thinking that the site that the game is on may have a sound adjustment and I accidentally changed it to no sound, but I have been searching through all over the site and there is no sound button or icon or and sound/audio section on the site..

I tried fixing the sound with the so0und icon on the bottom right of my computer screen and everything is on point.. nothing is on Mute or anything...

May someone please help in figure out my problem with this game/Site.

I read almost every post that concerned this problem: no audio playback in AC97 onboard card. It worked just fine for the past two weeks, but it suddenly quit today when I was recording sound from the external device (via microphone). However the mic worked fine previously. So here is what i have got: Fujitsu Siemens Laptop (Amilo A7620) with AC97 card (VT1612A).
OS: Windows XP Professional, Service Pack 2.
The drivers I used previously are manufacturer provided drivers and they worked. I have tried reinstalling the card but nothing changed. There are no hardware conflicts, the device is working properly, the sound bar moves but no sound is heard. I am working on internal speakers, however i have tried listening on the headphones and nothing. Also there is no sound input when i speak through the microphone. A short buzz is heard when i plug headphones / mic so the charge is there. I don't know how to solve this problem. I don't have any Spdif stuff etc.

Also there is this funny half duplex modem in the audio devices (and given as a choice to audio input and playback) however it is not used by the system. the default is set to AC97 Vinyl. Disabling the modem does not help. Is it supposed to be there. Also as it is a laptop I cannot set AC97 Audio controller Off/On.

Please help. the laptop is still under warranty but they don't guarantee integrity of my data so i don't want to return it to them. So quickly. However they were notified of my p... Read more

A:No sound heard (AC97 Problem)

I just got a message from tech support. They came to the conclusion that the AC97 chip got burned because of static discharge. So here is my advice to you, never plug in anything that carries electric current while laptop and sound chipset are working.

Best Regards,

P.S.: don't waste your time on reinstalling the system. If it does not seem like a driver problem (you tried reinstalling drivers and nothing happened) send your mobo to the tech support for replacement, or buy an external soundcard (which you should do anyway). External / PCI soundcards seem to be much more durable and fool proof than the generic AC97 chipsets.

From time to time (possibly when the PC has been on for a long time) I hear no sound--no Windows sounds, no player sounds (movie or music). And yet if I go to my Windows Volume mixer and test it, all works well; I can hear things. In such cases all i need to do is reboot and all is OK again. So I am not asking how to solve this problem per se, I am merely asking why is this so? How does it happen? And is there anything that one can do to solve this without rebooting?
For example now, I am in the process of doing a backup. it'll be hours before it finishes but meanwhile I can not play music, or watch videos, youtube or anything. Not for a pleasant experience as you might guess.
Thank you

A:Why does sound stop at times--can't be heard and yet....

Hard to tell. First thought, do you have the correct driver from the vendor? Reinstalling the driver may help.

If you have HDMI and an HDMI cable plugged in usually it will default to HDMI rather than the Speakers.

Sound is on a shared Interrupt (IRQ) with a higher priority device and depending on the higher priority device it may be interfering.

So many possibilities, that just based on what you've posted all we can do is guess or offer general suggestions.

One question, what or how are you doing a back up that it "takes hours"? I use Macrium Reflect and can backup my "C" drive to either an internal hard drive or a USB connected hard drive in less than 30 minutes.

i am using the LOGITECH PC Headset 120 and while using ventrilo other people can hear the sound that is being played into my headset, music or other peaople talking, through my mic.

i have been having this problem for a few months now and thought that it was something todo with ventrilo settings. But i have recently started using skype now aswell and have been getting the same response from people that i am talking to on skype.

the headset never came with any install cd or anything so am i missing a setting in my control panel or something that is causing this to happen as it is getting quite annoying for the people that i am talking too.

A:How do i stop the sound from my headset being heard in my mic?

Is it LOUD or quiet?

If quiet, it may just be that the mic is picking up sound that is escaping from the headset then replacing the entire thing is probably the only way to fix it. There are some rare feedback cencellation fetures of some cards but it would be better to get a headset that does not "leak" sound to the mike. (Assuming that's what's happening)

If it's loud, then maybe you have the default recording device set to "monitor" which may be then playing back a mix of your mic and your speakers(headset)? Right cilck the sound icon then select Recording Devices. Though USUSALY the mic is a seperate thing. My mic inputs are not the recording page for example, but I have a slightly strange card. But if your mic input is listed for recording devices maybe try selecting that (if not already selected)?

Hi, I'm having a really bazzare problem with both my pc and my blackberry I'm hoping someone out there will know what's causing it. I got a new blackberry for christmas and tried using the headset that came with it ,, the sound came from the speakers on the blackberry and only though one side of the headset. In an effort to troubleshoot weather the problem was the headset or the blackberry I plugged the headset into my audiojack on my laptop ( which had been working perfectly not 5 miniutes earlier) I had the same results with the laptop,, sound blasted though the speakers and though the headphones. thinking now that it was simply a problem with the headset I unplugged the blackberry headphones and plugged in my usual pc headphones and tried to listen to music again,,only the sound started blasting though both the speakers and the headphones again. ever since I plugged the blackberry headphones into the pc it doesn't matter what headphones I try in the pc I get the same results. I have no idea how a set of headphones could possibly have done this,, if anyone has any ideas I would really appriciate some feedback ,,TY Ty !!

Hi guys,

I have a strange problem. My speaker was working alright in my Windows XP Professional SP2. Suddenly, I did not hear any sounds. I tried all possible combination to fix the issue. The following covers almost all of them.

Check the device manager for any driver missing issues / yellow exclammation marks, mute button enabled for volume controls and also checked the BIOS if the audio device is enabled.
Finally, checked the speakers in another machine and it worked. Since it was an on-board sound card (Mercury Board - KOBP4M266A), I thought the issue could be with the sound card itself and purchased a NEW 4 channel PCI sound card. Installing that (Windows installed its drivers automatically - It was a "Crystal Soundfusion Audio device" driver) did not resolve my problem.

Now, when I see under the device manger, both the devices (AC'97 audio device from VIA technologies, which came with my mother board) and this one (Crystal Sound fusion audio device from the PCI sound card) both are listed and status shows as "Working properly" and "No conflicts". I also checked my PCI sound card in another machine and sound was heard alright.

I don't know where could be the issue with sound in my system.
Can some one help me resolve this quickly, as I have been having this issue for over 2-3 weeks now and tried all forums in the net, but not found a solution that fits my case.

Thanks for your inputs in resolving this.

First let me preface this by thanking anybody that either reads my post or attempts to respond to it.

I am a gamer, and I play WoW. I use vent to talk to friends while i'm playing the game. I haven't really had any trouble with microphone or sound settings before until I got my new gateway pc from best buy with windows vista on it.

Ever since then I couldn't use my microphone on it. I have tried to improvise by checking the vista support forums for tips/tricks on fixing the general microphone settings but nothing has really helped me so far. The sound on my computer is fine. I can listen to music and hear others talking while i'm connected to ventrilo. Each time I connect to ventrilo I get this error :

Unable to activate DirectSound for selected device.
DirectSoundCaptureCreate failed, hr = 88780078

When I go to Control Panel > Sound > Recording

it shows that my microphone is unplugged. I don't understand how its unplugged when its plugged into the regular pink jack that its always been plugged into.

on the vista forums i tried to follow a suggestion of plugging my mic jack into the blue line in jack instead of the pink one I normally plug it into. I followed step by step to make sure that the microphone wasn't muted and it still isn't working.

Is there anyone that can help me fix this problem? I would really appreciate it. I hope that I was specific enough also.

A:Microphone not working, able to hear all sound but not be heard.

Are you using onboard audio or a stand-alone audio card? (sound blaster x-fi for instance)

I have done some playing around with this myself.. I personally have no issues with talking to people on vent but on TS I am unable to boost my outbound enough as to get people to actually be able to hear me.

If you are using a stand-alone card you will want to make sure your microphone is plugged into the pink microphone jack for the audio card, not the motherboard.
(if your audio card is an X-Fi xtreme gamer like mine the micrphone jack is also the SPDIF I/O jack and is white, not pink)

Also check if your onboard audio device has been DISABLED in device manager.

Then right click on your audio icon, open recording devices.
'disable' all devices listed there except for your microphone.
'enable' your microphone (if it wasnt already) and make sure it is 'set as default device'
select your microphone and open 'properties'
IF you have this tab, open 'custom' and enable the boost
go to 'levels' and put the slider on max, also enable boost IF it is listed here
go to 'advanced' and DISABLE 'allow applications to take exclusive control'
APLLY and exit and try it now =)

You might want to try to disable 'use direct sound' in your vent settings and/or play around with those settings a bit.
I have personally found that if I use direct sound in vent after a few minutes my audio 'DIES'. for some reason all inbound/outbound seizes to work.. so unfortunatelly I have to use vent with direct sound d... Read more

Hi everyone,

I have an interesting problem: On my laptop (Lenovo Y510p) I can hear a buzzing/whistling/noise sound while my headphones are plugged in. The problem goes away when I mute my sound, but this buzzing can be heard while booting as well.

This led me to believe that my problem is simply a hardware issue, but I have a dual-boot setup with Ubuntu Linux on another partition where the sound works perfectly (i.e. no buzzing/whistling sound), which is interesting because it is using the exact same hardware.

I've tried: Reinstalling the audio driver and using different headphones. Neither gets rid of the problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated! I'd be happy to provide more information.

A:Noise/Buzzing Heard in Headphones when Sound Unmuted

Do you have the correct sound driver installed? If you only have the "High Definition Audio Codec" installed, that is only the generic Windows installed sound driver and not the correct one. Although the driver is not an issue when booting.

Recently, my desktop computer (Dell Precision r3500) started acting up. While on a Skype call the microphone would suddenly go silent after a few seconds of use. I could temporarily fix the problem by muting the mic and then unmuting it which would give me another few seconds (anywhere from 3 to 20 seconds.) Naturally, I thought it was my Logitech Webcam which I've been using as my microphone for a few years now with no previous problems. But when I disconnected the webcam and plugged a microphone into the microphone port on the front of the computer, the problem manifested in exactly the same way.

I then tested the microphone on my laptop running the same Skype application and everything worked great with that machine. The problem isn't Skype, and it isn't the input device. I've checked the drivers and everything there seems to check out okay.

Anyone got a solution? Do I need to buy a cheap sound card? Would that fix this problem?

Save the file to a USB flash drive or other removable media. Plug it into the working computer with internet access and copy the file and install the program.
You will now need to take a screen shot and copy that back to the working PC and attach the screen shot in a reply on the forum here.

Hi there,

For the past week or so I have not been able to connect to the internet on one of my PCs (not wireless). There is another PC in the house and 3 laptops which are all ok.

It connects for a few seconds and then drops again. It sometimes stays connected, but is very slow. When doing a speed check, it is running at 8kbps compared to around 7000kbps on the other PC.

I am running Vista, plenty of disk space and RAM. I have done virus checks, spyware checks cleanups etc, but still the same problem. I have tried restarting the router and changing ports, but nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to what else could be causing this?

A:connection dropping every few seconds

Hi:Sounds very much like an adapter problem.
Two things:
When connection drops,let's see this:
Hold the Windows key and press R, then type CMD then press Enter to open a command prompt:

In the command prompt window that opens, type type the following command:

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter to copy the contents to the clipboard.
Paste the results in a message here.

If you are on a machine with no network connection, use a floppy, USB disk, or a CD-RW disk to transfer a text file with the information to allow pasting it here.

The other thing you might do is go to the pc makers web site,download/install the current driver for the adapter

Has anyone ever had this problem? A:Connection loss every 6 seconds

go to http://www.spywareinfo.com/~merijn/files/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required,
so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

A:Connection timing out after 20 seconds.

I wonder what exactly is 'timing out'? Could it be if you try a different connection wizard that this might stop? If you used the internet connection wizard software supplied by your provider: Change your connection by using the connection wizard that comes with your Windows program. At least it's a different connect method and may not have this limitation. I live in Calif. so know nothing about your system but a phoneline is a phoneline I would think. You could always go to DSL or Cable (anything faster). Good Luck in Elvisland.

Hey basically I have this problem with the sound having a slight skip / crack every 5 seconds or so. This is happening in games, music playing software and online videos. I'll admit that it's only a very slight thing, but I find it to be very annoying.

I tried using DPC Latency Checker and it said: "Some device drivers on this machine behave bad and will probably cause drop-outs in real-time audio and/or video streams. To isolate the misbehaving driver use Device Manager and disable/re-enable various devices, one at a time. Try network and W-LAN adapters, modems, internal sound devices, USB host controllers, etc." The levels got up to 30,000us+

I tried disabling the LAN adapter and sound devices which yielded no change (had no idea how to safely disable USB host controllers)

I've tried uninstalling then updating my Realtek Audio drivers to the latest version for my motherboard.

I should mention that I built this computer (was my first), so is there anything I might have missed / did incorrectly that could be causing this? Or could it be something else?

Thanks for any help you can provide.

EDIT: Problem was caused by a program the motherboard installed. Guessed what it was designed to do...enhance the performance of the PC. Nice job there.

A:Sound Skipping Every Few Seconds

This sometimes happens if you have less RAM or the system memory is going full due to unnecessary services. You can update your drivers to Realtek HD Audio and see if that works, if not then go to task manager and check your RAM usage or try giving your Media Player or game a higher priority.

There are many software to free up your RAM by disabling unnecessary services like Auslogics Boost Speed.

If these wont work please reply.

Hey all,

I have an Inca 88 sound card (PCI, 8 in/8out recording soundcard, considered legacy at this point)

I install the drivers fine, and sound comes right away, but I lose sound about ten seconds afterward. The only way to get sound back is to uninstall the drivers, then re-do it.

While I have sound, it comes occasionally crackly. I changed the power settings option for minimum CPU to 100% as per advice in another thread, but no dice.

Can anything think of why it may be doing it?

New drivers are not an option, as the last ones are XP drivers from 2004. On Vista it worked fine, and I -DO- get sound (kinda) now, so I imagine it being something other than the drivers.

Thanks in advance guys,

A:Lose sound after 10 seconds...

Some say that disabling internal audio in the BIOS is a good idea, I'm not so sure about that in your case.

I've tried two PCI cards in my machine, an RME ADAT 8 In/Out and an M-Audio 24/96 Audiophile. Both have worked well, I have internal audio enabled, however... I do not use the PCI card(s) for any type of system/game audio, they function only in the recording software. All other audio uses the internal motherboard sound, that's one possibility.

The other possibility is to try using a different PCI slot, if you don't have one available swap the audio card with another PCI device.

Windows 7 seems to have a pretty thick "system" layer over top of the audio, I haven't quite figured out what they're doing... I know that Win-7 (maybe Vistas did too) supports system wide effects.

Got a new and annoying problem.

For example, when I start he computer and the login screen pop up, there is a sound comming, alltho, I only hear about a second of it.

To move on, It's the same in everything that includes music, like videos, mp3 (in this case Winamp) games and streaming media.
The sound in every way starts after about a 2 seconds from that I press play.
I have never had these issues before.

Anyone got a suggestion?
And yes, I have all the latest drivers available, disabled the buildin soundcard etc.

My computer specification:

Intel Core i7 930
X58A-UD3R-Rev 2.0
Asus Xonar Essence STX
Samsung SSD 830 128GB

Thanks in advance!

A:Sound starts after a few seconds

Three things.
1. If you do not have the Integrated (on the motherboard) audio disabled, Disable it in the BIOS, not the Device Manager. If it wasn't disabled, try it after disabling it in the BIOS.

2. Uninstall the sound in the Device Manager, DO NOT check the box to uninstall the drivers. Then restart the PC and when Windows starts it will detect and reinstall the Sound. This fixes any Windows corruptions.

3. Reinstall the correct drivers (I assume the Asus Xonar).

Over the last seven days, I've done quite a lot to my machine, cleaning it up, and running programs to remove a rootkit. I thought I had it fixed, the google-redirect was eliminated and it was working fine for two days. Jan 1 night, as far as I know, it was working fine. Then Jan 2 morning, I received a notice to update RealPlayer, I did so and the update stalled because the network connection was lost. That's when I started getting the problem. I then uninstalled RealPlayer but it did not help. Now when I reboot, Firefox connects when I first open it, but after about one minute, it reports it cannot find the web sites. This also is the problem with IE 8 and my e-mail. I can go to Control Panel/Network connections and choose "repair" and it will work for another short period then stop working again. If I just reboot and wait a few minutes, then I cannot seem to connect to the internet.

I tried booting in safe mode/networking and I still receive the same problem.

I ran a system restore back to Sat, Jan 1, when I believe it was working fine, but still have the same problem.

Here's a short summary of what I did since Christmas that I can remember:

(1) Ran TDSSKiller and Combofix to remove rootkit (did not)

(2) Ran AVG2011 rootkit search, found one hidden file, removed, seems to have fixed problem.

(3) Ran checkdisk, and disk defragmenter to clean disc.

(4) Began uninstalling unwanted programs from my machine (about 12). Careful ... Read more

My laptop has (i assume) become infected with something that is causing it to lose its broadband connection almost immediately after connecting. What happens is this: I plug in my ethernet cable from the cable modem box, and then i am able to access the internet for about 15 seconds, before page i attempt to access comes up "page cannot be displayed." clicking the 'repair' button from my network settings does nothing, but manually releasing and renewing my ip through an ipconfig prompt buys me another 15 seconds of browsing, before the same thing happens. The same modem, when plugged into my desktop computer, has no problems at all maintaining a connection. I run Ad-Aware regularly, and keep my laptop reasonably clean of bugs and spyware... what's causing this?? any ideas/suggestions would be much appreciated.

I have some problems with my wireless connection it freezes my PC around every 10-15 seconds for around 2-3 sec. Sometimes the connection can stay clear for maybe 30min or 1h but not much longer before it begins to freeze again and usually goes into 'Limited Connectivity' and automaticlly restarts the connection to normal. It's very annoying because I can't download anything before the connection cuts. Only if I'm lucky I can complete the download before it freezes.

The only thing I can do is to disconnect and reconnect to get online again but that's not a solution. I'm pretty sure my settings are not correct which causes the freezes and not the speed. Because my speed is usually good and have strong signal.

My PC use XP and my wireless card name is LevelOne WNC-0301. I'm connected to a shared local Hotspot connection in my building.

I installed the device from a cd and the internet works but I'm sure the settings with the LevelOne and Windows are not 100% correct.

Does anyone know what internet settings I should use in this case?

So, most of the time my ping (to my ISPs server) is ~15ms, when I upload/download it changes etc., but, I've noticed that when I use the internet I get disconnection spikes (highly noticable when playing League of Legends or doing anything that needs a constant connection). These disconnection spikes happen more frequently when there's an active connection (something's being downloaded/uploaded, eg. a game running).

I have figured out it isn't any of the routers causing the issue with tracert and pinging. (I pinged the first router, the 2nd and then only the IP to my ISP started having issues.)

This didn't always happen, but it does happen on WinXP and Win8 and my Android tablet.

Any tips? (And I know I should contact my ISP, but I like knowing how to deal with stuff myself.)

Thanks. :]

Also posting a pic of my ping log.

(1 pix = 1 sec, the timeouts are 1 sec too, pinging my ISP directly)

My wireless connection keeps dropping every 30 seconds. I am using a Netgear WP511T wireless card with a Westell Router wireless router given to me by Verizon for my DSL. I am trying to connect my Sony Viao Laptop runing Windows XP. The thing is that I get an Excellent signal and I am showing my conputer connected to my network but the signal resets after 30 seconds and drops the connection for a second then immediately reconnects. I am not sure what is going on because I can go to any coffee shop in the area which offers WI-FI and I am able to plug the card in and connect immediately without problem. I currently have a desktop computer connected to my DSL with ethernet cable and it works fine. I tried connecting my laptop to the Ethernet cable but I get the same issue of connection for 30 seconds then drop and reconnect. PLEASE HELP...this is driving me crazy as I have tried all support sources (Netgear, Verizon, Westell) and they all tell me it maybe a problem with the card but if it works in the coffee shops then I am assuming it is something either in the configuration of my laptop or with Windows XP.

We have three computers using a home wireless network, and all work relatively well. I just added a fourth - a Dell 5100C with an upgraded VGA card connected to a TV. This machine had gotten a lot of use but was on a shelf for a while. Now, however, it locates the home network only manually and maintains a connection or a matter of seconds. Any ideas what might be going on?

I am on son's Clevo laptop and they tell me they have not had sound for a very long time.

I check, download and install latest drivers from the Clevo website, but still no sound.

I have deleted all device drivers and allowed Windows to rediscover the drivers again - everything went well but found a PCI device that could not find drivers for so put the yellow Exclamation Mark - but still no Audio Device.

I checked the BIOS, there is no option to turn on/off the sound so I presume audio is turned on as everything is integrated, but still the Sounds and Audio Device Properties says that there are No Audio Devices. So either the device is faulty or there is some other way of being able to get the computer to recognise the Audio Devices.

If there is any suggestion(s) it would be greatly appreciated.

A:Onboard sound but 'No Audio Device' in device properties

Sometimes kids overdrive the audio chips until they overheat and burn out. If burned out, it will not detect.
Might be time to disable the onboard sound and install an external sound card and software.

Hi, Try the following. Once again, download the Realtek HD Audio installer on the link below and save it to your Downloads folder. http://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp75501-76000/sp75983.exe When done, hold down the Windows key and press R Into the Run window, type devmgmt.msc and hit enter. In Device Manager, expand Sound, Video and Game Controllers.  Right click the Realtek device and select Uninstall - you should also get a prompt to remove the current driver, tick the box to allow this and then proceed with the uninstall. When complete, shutdown the notebook. Tap away at the esc key as you start the notebook to launch the Start-up Menu and then select f10 to enter the bios menu.  Press f9 to load the defaults ( this is sometimes f5, but the menu at the bottom will show the correct key ), use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter.  Press f10 to save the setting and again use the arrow keys to select 'Yes' and hit enter. When windows has reloaded, open your Downloads folder, right click on the Realtek installer and select 'Run as Administrator' to start the installation.  When this has completed, restart the notebook and let windows fully load for a few minutes before checking. Regards, DP-K

Hi, I'm new here.
I run Windows XP Professional and I've been using it for the past 3 years or so.
I recently got the game 'Left 4 Dead', and it's been working great until yesterday.
I would start playing it, then after I close it out, my mouse stops every two seconds and any playing sound at the moment would stutter.
I removed any unnecessary hardware (External Hard Drives, SD Cards, Printers...) and I still get the same thing.
But after I restarted the computer, it stops doing it.
