Q: ThinkPad X280: anyone noticed this detail on the display bezel?

Hi All!A few minutes ago, while cleaning my X280 noticed that the lower bezel of the display (the part between the Lenovo logo on the left and the X280 lettering on the right) is a lot more flexible than the rest of the bezels. Noticed while cleaning it with a soft cloth with a gentle cleaning solution appropriatefor displays. The other bezels (side an top) are noticeable more sturdy.DId anyone noticed this before?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

tl;dr Is the Thinkpad x280 flawless for Ubuntu 18.04? Hello. I recently acquired myself a X1 Yoga 3rd gen with the hopes that I would have a nice experience running Ubuntu. Unfortunately, from day one I encountered issues with it: X1 Carbon Gen 6 cannot enter deep sleep (S3 state aka Suspend-to-RAM) on Linuxhttps://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/X1-Carbon-Gen-6-cannot-enter-deep-sleep-S3-state-aka-S... Touchpad and trackpad work erratically after I close and open the laptop's lid (suspending and resuming). I need to reboot everytime.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/Thinkpad-X1-Carbon-Yoga-3rd-eratic-Mouse-and-Keyboard-... Others that I found about online after acquiring the machine:FYI - Linux May Not Support Thunderbolt Native Mode (seems to be solved)https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Linux-Discussion/FYI-Linux-May-Not-Support-Thunderbolt-Native-Mode/m-p/... Linux throttling bug (T480s)https://www.reddit.com/r/thinkpad/comments/870u0a/t480s_linux_throttling_bug/ And from Linux's side, poor consideration for touchscreens. Sadly, I have no choice but to return this machine next week. I feel these are nice machines in theory, and I would be willing to give them one more try. I was considering the Thinkpad x280 and I want to run Ubuntu 18.04 again. I would like to ask if any of these issues persist, or any other issues I'm not aware of show up when running Ubuntu, or any other Linux distro.

A:ThinkPad X280: i5-8250U + 16Gb?

The X280 has RAM soldered to the main board so it can't be expanded or swapped out. If you need 16GB, buy the one with 16GB RAM.

I would like to connect two 24in monitors to extend the display across the two screens.  The user manual states that if you connect a monitor to both the HDMI and USBC then USBC will have priority.  I could not find any explanation as to how two monitors can be connected to enable extended display.   I assume one option is to purchase a docking station but I am hoping there is a less expensive option. Any help would be much appreciated.

I am not sure if I'm posting this question in the right section. After signing up, I found it very difficult to work out where to post! Anyway, I am thinking of buying either an Ideapad 720s (13", core i7 8th Gen, 8GB Ram, 256 GB SSD) or a Thinkpad x280 (12", core i7 8th Gen, 8GB Ram, 512 GB SSD), and I believe they both have Thunderbolt 3. So I was wondering if there are significant differences between them. Where I am, the Ideapad is around the $1,000 mark, while the Thinkpad is about $400 more expensive. Is the Thinkpad really that much better, and if so, how? Thank you.

I have the new ThinkPad x280. I need to be able to connect using a SIM card. My model is 20KF 001LV.  I am trying to figure out if my laptop model supports the SIM option, if it has a nano-SIM card slot or not. There is no indication or way to see in the settings.

A:Thinkpad X280 - nano-SIM card

X280 have a dual nanoSIM and microSD card tray located at the back of the case (check HMM on page 82 for more information). In order to use WWAN Internet connection, you also need a proper WWAN modem installed on the motherboard. Check if Fibocom L830-EB or Fibocom L850-GL is listed in Device Manager.

Hi everyone, I was setting up my brandnew X280 and after installing Windows 10 Pro I downloaded Lenovo System Update tool. It proposed a number of updates including a BIOS update and I let it do its job.Last I recall was the window about BIOS update where I hit enter (or ok).The noteboks was sitting in a docking station, battery fully charged. Next time I checked the progress the screen is black and the white power LED is slowly flashing (like being in standby). However I can't wake it up. It will just keep flashing.  As I can't take out the battery on a X280 what can I do? Pressing the power button for an extended period of time didn't do anything. Is there a hidden key stroke combination or do I have to wait a couple of days (weeks) until the battery has run out? I'm afraid the BIOS update failed and the system is bricked, even though I followed the instructions by the letter. Any suggestions are more than welcome! Thanks. Q.

Hello all, Long time thinkpad user from the W700 time haha. Just wanted to drop a line after recently getting a thinkpad x270 instead of the x280. I got a little worried with the design philosophy of the thinkpad x270 --> x280 lineage.  I got the x270 because of the bigger removable battery capacity along with the ethernet port among other ports.  I welcome the usb-c port in the x270 and glad to see more of that in the x280. But the fact that the x280 does not have an ethernet port along with a non-removable battery with the option to add the huge super cylindrical battery was a deal breaker for me and I see that the x280 was a step backwards in terms of a design / functionality standpoint from the x270. I am just getting a little bit worried about the design team and their vision for what the x2## series have in the future. The x280 seems to be just a cheaper version of the x1 carbon.  I have the x1 carbon btw lol. Got a few thinkpads... and I like the design for the x1 carbon and i think that to remain as it is...for the thinkpad x1 carbon. I dont want that spilling over into the x2## series. That is supposed to be a pure work horse mobile productivity device.  Anyway what do you guys all think about the direction which the x280 is taking from the x270 which I thought (referencing to the x270) was a pure great work horse laptop with an AMAZING battery life which is absolutely CRITICAL to the x200 line of thinkpa... Hello,I bought new X280 which has proprietary connector called Ethernet Extension Adapter Gen 2. I bought it to leave other ports ready for other adapters, but I have found out, that there is another USB-C port very close next to this ethernet port and when I put ethernet adapter into laptop's proprietary port, there is no space to put second USB-C connector. My question is: If I cut the border of Ethernet Extension Adapter connector, will the USB-C work? Or is there any reason to not to do that? Many thanks.

Hi. I got my custom order X280 In July with all features for office purposes and use it just 15 times since then. The battery was never drain in shutdown mode in the first days of use. I remember that after one week being off the battery had the same percentage of charge at restart in the first month of use. Since then whenever I start it I check in Vantage if there are updates and I made the necessary updates every time, Windows updates, System updates, Bios etc. By about two weeks I noticed the battery is discharging between 6 and 8 percent overnight which is quite frustrating and annoying for a three month product. Something happened which consume the power overnight when is turned off. If they are Lenovo employees on the forum please advise me what to do. I would like to know is there is a warranty defect, something that can be fixed by the following updates or something that I can personally change in order everything come back to normal. PS. I have the USB ON disabled from Vantage Thank you.

Hi,

I just bought the Thunderbolt 3 dock and remembered reading that you have to make some changes in BIOS for the usb hub to be detected in linux. So I entered BIOS and disabled thunderbolt security and enabled some other thunderbolt feature (the one below thunderbolt security, the tooltip tells you to enable this for linux support and older versions of windows 10).

After saving and rebooting all I see is a blank screen and the fans start going at full speed.

The computer does not boot into my OS and I am not able to enter BIOS again.

Any ideas how I can fix this?

Is there a way to factory reset the BIOS without entering it? Usual solution here is to remove the CMOS battery but I really don't want to open my brand new laptop unless I know my warranty is still valid.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:ThinkPad X280: After BIOS update, notebook won't boot anymore

It is not very difficult to remove the CMOS/Coin Cell battery on that system, just remove the main battery, and then loosen 3 screws to open the large bottom cover (see page 73 of the ThinkPad E560 and E565 Hardware Maintenance Manual for details on removing the cover)    Once the cover is open, unplug the CMOS/Coin Cell battery (you don't actually have to remove the battery), wait a few minutes and then plug it back in (see page 81 of the HMM for details). Doing so will not effect your warranty, but don't force anything and keep track of the screws.

I first spot significant cracks on my keyboard bezel and ordered an onsite maintenance for my Thinkpad P50 to have the keyboard bezel changed. However, the color calibrator never comes back to work, and it showed the following messages before activating the software: "unable to find the Lenovo laptop display to be calibration. please run this application with the laptop screen in the open position". I contacted the Lenovo support and they ordered another onsite for me to change the wire unit between the color calibrator and the mobo. However, nothing changed. The technician and I checked the wire connection and found nothing wrong. The technician was highly doubted that the display cannot be correctly identified by the mobo, because it showed as "Generic PnP Monitor". I have no idea what does this means and how will it affect the color calibrator. We actually have the original color sensor unit installed on the new keyboard bezel, basic nothing changed. Can anyone help me with it? Thanks a lot!The error code from color calibratorGeneric PnP Monitor

Was it fast? slow?

Did you maybe turn the monitor off while the computer was on all night?

Or maybe the monitor got auto power disabled duringthe night?

If so then the video card may have switch to a different timing mode and did not switch back properly when the monitor came back on...

I need to replace (or just mend if replacements are no longer available) the front display bezel on my Vostro 1320. According to the Dell service manual, you have to remove the display assembly, which entails also removing the battery, hard drive, WLAN card, hinge cover, and keyboard.
Is it really that complicated.? A non-Dell website (www.laptopinventory.com/.../LCD) suggests that all you need to do is remove the screw covers and screws and pry off the bezel. I don't want to go ahead with this without checking.
Thank you,
Terry

Hey everyone,
I recently ran into the issue that the backlight on my Lenovo Thinkpad W520 for the display wont light up ( i took the LCD and shined a flashlight behind it to ensure that it was being digitized which it was). It worked fine one day until I turned on the laptop and the screen was black. I have reseated all the RAM, bought new cables for the display, a new inverter for the display, and even a new screen. I have unplugged the CMOS battery to reset the BIOS, and tried holding the power button for long amounts of time with the battery and power cord disconnected. Holding the power button down and restarting fixed my Thinkpad T410 when the same issue happened 3 times before, but it wont fix this issue. All of this never happened on the T410 for the 2 years I had Windows 7 on it but now both machines run Windows 10 Pro. I removed the hard drive from the W520 just in case it was a problem with the drive. Also I am testing the screen with the laptop display assembly disassembled. Please help, I am lost as to what I can do.

After a couple months of flawless use, I'm having trouble with my display on this old model.

For a day or so, the display would go dark at random times, requiring a restart, after which it was fine for awhile.

Now it has gone out completely.

The funny thing is is that it's not "completely" out. I can still make out, but just barely, the display. It's too dark to read or navigate, but I can tell the desktop is there somewhere.

I've plugged an external monitor into it and it has worked fine.

I'm hoping it's a simple fix. The battery is very old and won't charge over 15%, and if that is the problem I'll be glad, but this is with it plugged into the ac adapter.

Any thoughts?

Thanks!

I have an old ThinkPad T500 that I was planning to give to my younger brother so he can do school work.  Running Windows Vista Ultimate.  A few months back, the internal display was acting intermittently, meaning it would not display anything (dark screen) but if you connected an external monitor, it would work fine.  After a second or third reboot, the internal display would come on. This morning I turned it on and the monitor had parallel color lines in various patterns.  I can hear the laptop running and booting up.   After a couple of minutes, I plugged in an external monitor - nothing.  I rebooted the machine and the same color pattern was displaying on the internal display.  This time, the external monitor came on and booted up in 800 x 600 mode.  When I went into Device Manager > Display it shows "Standard VGA Adapter".  I recall that this laptop comes with switchable graphics between the Intel GMA 4500MHD and ATI Mobility Radeon HD 3650 (256 MB).  Is the video card bad or is it just the actual display?

It could be both, difficult to say without having the actual ThinkPad at hand.

I don't remember by heart the BIOS settings in the T500, but please try going to the BIOS (press F1 right after turning on the laptop) and go to "Config" and "Display", select only the integrated graph, save and reboot.  Keep us posted how it goes...

Hopefully that would fix the screen problems...

Hello,I've been running into a fairly consistent problem with my Lenovo Thinkpad P70. It has the Quadro M3000m, and the Xeon CPU option which includes the HD530 graphics. I usually run the graphics in Hybrid mode, since I run into driver compatibility problems running it in Discrete Only.In Hybrid mode, there's some strange behavior. When I use the external HDMI display only, Extended Display, or the internal laptop display only, everything works well. However, when I use "Duplicate Display", it does not work. The laptop display turns on, goes to a very low resolution (1280x720 I believe), and the external display turns off. When I look in the Intel GPU multi-display settings, it says that there are two displays, the laptop display and "virtual display". When I go into the nVidia multi-display GPU settings, it shows that there are three: The Samsung TV (My external display), the internal display, and 'Analog display', which it shows connected via VGA (which is wrong), and also shows a max resolution of this 'analog display' as 1280x720. In the nVidia screen, it shows that while activating the 'duplicate display' mode, the computer tries to connect to both the internal display and this 'analog display' (which is not correct at all), but if I manually disable the analog display, enable the Samsung TV, and then right-click the Samsung TV and click "Duplicate from Display 1", the duplicate display feature works, and the "analog display" disappears from the list. When I use Control Panels the best that I get select is 16 colors, 640 x 480 megapixals, Standard PCI Graphics Adapter VGA, Color Management with no monitor profile. Something is wrong because the monitor looks the colors are washed out with and shadows. Definitely a change from before the clean install.

Hi Senyo,

Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you here.

As I understand that you are facing issue with your display in T450s.
Looks like you have a bad LCD panel & it needs to be changed so better contact Lenovo & replace under warranty.
Also you can try moving the LCD lid at certain angle whether display is coming or not.

I hope the above information helps.
Please feel free to post in Lenovo Community Forums if you have any further queries!
