Q: Contacting server and signing in Lync/Skype For Business

Has anyone come across this issue before when using Lync. Lync 2013 stuck at "Contacting server and signing in" on all computers. Don't get any errors or timeouts.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I am using a PC (Windows XP) on a home network that is otherwise dominated by Macs, and it has been able to connect to the internet before, but it really only works when I do a full system restore where I reinstall windows and erase my HD and I'd rather not want to do this again, since I am tired of reinstalling all my crap.
Now as far as I can tell, the problem with the connection lies not in that the computer does not know how to connect to the internet, but rather that it doesn't know it is connected to the cable modem through a router. I think this because the IP address on the LAN connection is never one that all the other computers on the network have (- one that starts 192.168.1.x). I have tried a couple of times to use the network wizard, but it either says that there was an error configuring the network, or more often than not, it finishes, but the internet still doesn't work. Also, when I try to repair the connection, in the connection status window, it says it has a problem renewing the IP address, which does not work since it has problems contacting the DHCP server (I tried running "ipconfig/renew" in cmd.exe). Does anyone know how to get the computer to connect to the DHCP server?
I hope I have given enough background on the situation, if you need any more system info, please ask. Thanks in advance

Hey guys,

I setup a mail server using the free hMailServer (Mail Transfer Agent). I managed to set everything up to work. Except one problem:

I can't access my mail server on port 25 from outside the network nor can I access other mail servers on port 25 from my network. It looks like it's not specific to my mail server as I have tried running listening on port 25 on a different computer but still can't seem to get a response from that port when doing a ping from the outside.

All my other ports work perfectly, everything is forwarded properly and the firewall is allowing connections.

I have spoken to my ISP countless times and they keep telling me that they do not block port 25 (both inbound and outbound).

But when I try to telnet a server such as hotmail, gmail and other ones on port 25 outside of my network I get a connection timeout and the samething happens when I try to telnet from the outside to my server on port 25.
BUT when I telnet to my ISP's port 25 from within my network then it successfully connects.

That brings me to the conclusion that my ISP is blocking the port.

So in conclusion, I am able to relay outgoing emails through my ISP's port 25 but not straight from my server to another server. And incoming emails do not work at all because other mail servers get a connection timeout when trying to connect to my port 25.

Do you guys have any suggestions because I have exhausted myself with this port 25 issue.
Thanks,
Andrey

Hey

We got the problem that when the Add-Ons Lync Browser Helper and Lync Click to Call is active the start page of Office 365 portal.office.com loads very slowly and the CPU goes up to constant 30%, also the page is the very slow over the hole time you use
it. If you jump to a other site outlook/SharePoint/Yammer etc. then every thing works fine and fast. If we deactivate this Add-Ons the access to this portal.office.com page is fast. Not all of the user are affected even on the same machine.
Workarounds are, disable the Add-Ons or use the inPrivate Mode or use the compatibility mode.

Any idea why the Problem occours for some users?

This is to discuss something regarding Microsoft Skype for business. Recently from a blog, I read some advantages about this http://www.thinktel.ca/blog/general-category/5-reasons-use-microsoft-skype-business/. Is there any windows mobile app versions of Skype for business. If then, can I get all facilities as in the desktop version. I have one more question related to this. Can I share HIPAA, FERPA, or other sensitive data using Skype for Business? I am expecting your replies. Thank you in advance.

A:About Skype for business

Skype is mostly used for making video calls, texts and most of the business companies use Skype to connect with their clients. All the Skype to Skype calls, videos , file transfer and instant messages are encrypted that is why business companies use it for remote team conference.

I'm having a Skype job interview next. The guy interviewing me is using Skype for Business. I have Skype installed on my home computer but not the business kind, just regular Skype. The guy sent me an email link to click on which says "Join Skype Meeting" - I tried clicking on it just to see what happened -- even though it's not the day for the interview -- and I got these screen messages:

"How would you like to join your meeting? "Install and join with Skype meetings app (web)" -- "Join with Skype for Business (desktop")

I've never used Skype this way before -- I've always had someone Skype me in advance of the interview, ask to be added to my "contacts" list, then they Skyped me at the designated time and I had my Skype already open to receive.

What do I do? Do I click on his "Skype for Business (desktop) link? Do I first have to open my Skype program on my laptop or install something else?

This old Luddite is really worried about screwing my interview up. Any help is GREATLY appreciated?

Hi, I have several users that are experiencing audio issues when trying to use Skype for Business 2016.   The issue is that when they Skype call out to a contact their mic and speakers or just microphone will not work.   The microphone not working is the most common issue.   However, they can have a contact call them and their microphone and speakers will function normally.  Here are the steps that I've tried to correct the issue: Quick Repair of Office 2016.Full Repair of Office 2016.Full removal of all Office products and reinstall of Office 2016.Update to latest sound drivers Conexant ISST Audio 9.0.100.99 -- this causes both microphone and speakers to not function at all.Revert sound drivers for Conexant ISST Audio to 9.0.100.63 -- this allows for the user to be able to recieve Skype calls but not be able to make Skype calls.Full removal of all sound drivers - restart - allow Microsoft to reinstall drivers.None of the items above have fully corrected the issue and it appears to be a specific issue with the Conexant ISST Audio drivers used by HP. Any ideas on how to correct this issue? Thank you!

Every other application is able to use the camera but not Skype for Business, although, in the video settings for the app, it shows an image from the chosen camera. We have tried repairing and also reinstalling Microsoft office and the app individually, also tried different accounts. Installing different or updated drivers from the Lenovo Support website do not seem to make an impact either.

Hi Useless User and welcome to Tenforums.

You can disable Skype for Business from starting with Windows permanently, by opening Task Manager; under the Startup tab, select the app and click the Disable button.

Alternately, you can go to All Settings> System>Apps & features, highlight Skype Meetings App, and select Uninstall.

Hope that helps!

Hi all,

Could somebody provide a list of all the drivers that would need signing?

Would the following method work:
1. Use F8 to stop requiring signed drivers
2. Install VMWare server on Vista 64
3. Use method from ATI Radeon HD 4870 4850 3850 3870 2900 2600 NVIDIA GeForce 280 260 9800 9600 8800 8600 - NGOHQ.com to sign necessary drivers
4. Reboot without F8 - presumably the signed drivers should now function ??

If this seems reasonable - is there a complete list of drivers that I ought to go sign in 3) above?

What's the gotcha?

Thanks,

I've been an active member on a design forum for the past year with the same username and password. This is what's happening now --

I go to the website, type in my username and password then click the Submit button. The page starts loading and then I get this: HTTP 500 Internal Server Error. I kept refreshing but still got the page error. The owner, administrators and developers had no clue why that popped up all of a sudden, so they checked my browser settings, upgraded Firefox, deleted cookies, cache and history.

I then went back to the site to try and log in again and noticed I was online. I tried to navigate through the site and access my account but couldn't. It was like I was there but wasn't. The Sign In button was still showing as if I wasn't online and hadn't log in at-all.

I thought maybe it was my computer doing something on its own so I created a new account and password. The new username and password logged me on successfully.

My question is... why am I not able to log in on my original ID and password but can login using the new one. Some really weird stuff going on.

Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi,

I have a set of 5 machines - 2 desktops (one being a thin client and the other to function as a 'server' ) and 3 notebooks. I was wondering what was the difference b/w the 2 versions Windows Server 2003 and Windows Small Business Server 2003. Is it true one cannot use a thin client but need a regular cpu setup to use Small Business Server 2003 ?

There is a difference in costs and since i have windows 2000 on the desktops and xp on the notebooks wondered if i needed to shell out so much more $$ for the Windows Server 2003 . I plan to put in a wireless networking system to link all the 5 machines.

Thanks in advance for any and all advise.

A:Solved: Difference b/w Windows Server 2003 and Small Business Server 2003

Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server has the following restrictions:
- Only one computer in a domain can be running Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server must be the root of the Active Directory® forest.
- Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server cannot trust any other domains.
- A Windows Server 2003 for Small Business Server domain cannot have any child domains.
- Each additional server must have a Windows Small Business Server 2003 client access license (CAL). You can use CALs for each user or for each device.
The standard edition of Windows Small Business Server 2003 includes Windows Server 2003 technologies, including fax service, firewall service, and remote-access service. Additionally, it includes Microsoft Exchange Server 2003, enhanced tools for server monitoring and administration, and an out-of-the-box solution for internal Web sites. The standard edition is ideal for customers who do not require the higher-level functionality included in the premium edition

The premium edition includes everything in the standard edition, plus Microsoft SQL Server 2000, Microsoft Internet Security and Acceleration (ISA) Server 2000, and Microsoft FrontPage® 2003. The premium edition is ideal for small businesses with more demanding IT needs, such as data-intensive line-of-business applications, or advanced firewall and Web-caching capabilities

The standard edition has most of the stuffs inside.

Dell PC running XP Home.
40 gig hard drive, 2.1 MHz Pentium
768 MHz RAM

THis is a multi-part question.
Here's the problem.
ONE program (UPS WorldShip) hangs when it swaps between windows. It is the furthest computer from the server and is attatched via a hub rather than a switch, and only runs at 10 Mbps. However, switching to a wireless router and network card at 54 Mbps yields the same hanging, and other computers running the same program have no issue accessing the server, so I doubt that it is a network issue.
The page file size is adequate (8096 MB) and it matters not whether other programs are running or not. Could I have a swap file issue, (and where and how do I change that size?) or could it be that I just need more RAM (I wouldn't think that one program would eat all that up)?
Finally, can anyone tell me what processes should always be running in Task Manager? I've got 43 processes on this problematic PC, and I'm sure many of them are extraneous, but I don't want to close or disable a vital process.

Thanks in advance!

Dan

I'm currently working for my parents as a technician, but being under 18 i'm not a professional by any means. The small business currently has 3 computers, all being private and not having any shared data. The next step i recommended was to get a server, but not ever having used one before, I don't know what to do regarding getting it running. My current aim is:

To have each computer (windows 10) ask for a username and password, and once logged on all data is transferred to that computer from the server. (Basically the system my school has).

I've looked everywhere online, and i can't seem to get what i want. Is there a specific type of server i need? I already have multiple 3tb storage drives, just how do i get this all up and running? Many thanks.

Hello, first of all I am new to the forums and this is my first post. Thanks for viewing and your input will be very helpful.

I have a small business with a few employees at the time, ~5. I want to set up a server system that is secure. I was looking into different ones and was wondering if anyone had experience with these. There is SAS secure server or just doing a windows 7 secure server. Also the main goal of having this server is to have some sort of guard for internal and external access. Thanks. Hope to hear your guys input.

Thanks. I want clients to access it remotely and be able to check out their accouts. I want to be able to give access to certain accounts to some employees and not others. Lets say I have two clients, A and B. I want A to be able to log into our server and check out his/her information and not have access to B. And Vice Versa. I am new at this and just trying to look around, thank you for your help. I was told that there is software you can put on the server, lets say we get a windows server that can assist with that.

Can SBS 2003 be setup using a router to do the routing and still be able to use Outlook Web Access and Sharepoint Services?

Also can you have your website hosted on a server with a servername .local and not .com?

If you don't have the answer can you point me in the right direction?

I am setting up a server that doesn't have a static IP address and planned on using dyndns.org as a dynamic updater. I wanted to have a business card website hosted on the server too. I host my own website on my server but have a .com name for my server and cannot get the outlook web access to work. I would like to have my cake and eat it too.
Thanks in advance,
Jerry

would windows 7 professional be enough as an OS for a small business server?

server mainly for:
file backup
file sharing
printer connection
simple website hosting

A:small business server OS

Others may not agree, but I'm always in the mindset of using the proper tool for the job. It sounds like Server 2012 Essentials would do the job nicely.

As for website hosting, given how cheap 3rd party hosting plans are, I wouldn't consider running one inside my network anymore.

Hello, I do a lot of emails using outlook ( Microsoft Exchange Server thru business), and I'm trying to connect to their server from my laptop at home. But I can't seem to connect. Please help. Thank you

A:need to connect to business server

Your not going to unless their system admin allows you to get into their network. I think you best take it up with your employeer to devise a solution.

Also alot of larger companies won't let employees do just what your trying to because they don't want their business emails on a persons personal laptop.

Hello!

I have a friend that is starting his own business and he needs to set up a server where two computers can access the same software. Microsoft Office and Bankruptcy software are the two applications he needs the two client computers to have access to. What would be his best option to accomplish this? I have looked into MS Small Business Server (and Essentials) or Terminal Services but I am not sure what would be the best option. Or is there anything else out there I should consider.

I am an IT support tech for a company but have most of my experience in hardware.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!
Patrick
