Address list for Thunderbird

Q: Address list for Thunderbird

W10 up and running very well, the only change is a new email client, recommended by an "expert" In fact it's not so different to "Outlook" I'm using "Thunderbird" as my email client. Took me some time to sort out where/how, to set up a contacts list. I got it up and running and a list of contacts on the left side of the screen. All that was required was to click the mail name and it was entered in the "to" space. However that has disappeared. Now I have to open the addresses from "tools" click on each name, the addresses then vanish so I have to start again entering a new address, ad nauseam - I'd really like to get the list on the left side again

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Export your address book to a comma deliminated file. Open the file in excel and arrange the columns in the same order as they would appear in mozilla. Save again using a comma delimated format. Import the file into mozilla's address book.

My current address (contact) list is maintained on Thunderbird. I need to get it to a new iphone.
The path I chose is to move it to mac Mail and then synch that to the iphone. Problem is that in exporting specific address books in TB, I only get a partial list of entries...say 16 of 41. I can't figure out why I don't get all of them. I'm exporting to a LDIF on the desktop and then importing that to Mail where I see the shortfall. I've tried altering the desktop name and importing it back to TB and the list seems complete. I have wiped the Mail Address Book clean and still get the same problem. Any suggestions, please.

Does anyone know of a good way to get my complete OE Address Book into Mozilla Thunderbird? I've tried it in the 1.0 version, and it doesn't seem to move the subfolders. I get the whole main list (I think), but the folders don't survive. I installed the 1.5 beta yesterday, and that was even worse. One folder was populated with the same name about 25 times, and there were lots of blank lines in most folders. I'm running WinXP-SP2. I would really like to convert over to Thunderbird as my default, but not as long as I can't bring my addresses completely along. The AB isn't huge, but the thought of building it from scratch is not appealing. I would appreciate any input.

Hello,

I have just started using Mozilla's Thunderbird and I know how to import addresses from other mail programs, but how do I add an address manually? For example, someone writes an address in a "snail mail" letter and I want to put it in Thunderbird's address book? I've looked at the options but can't seem to find how to do this.

I recently had my Thunderbird service restored. In the past if I clicked on Sent to see names of people I had sent e-mails to, it would show their names opposite the appropriate e-mails. Earlier today it was showing my name all the way down the list because I sent the e-mails. I tried random ways to fix it and now it shows no names at all.

I would like to get back to seeing the names of individuals I sent specific e-mails to so that I can find a specific one quickly. How do I do this? I now have Thunderbird 9.0.1.

Thanks in advance.

Hello.  I hope that you are well and enjoying life in general.

Having lost Eudora/WinXP, which did everything I needed, my new Windows 7 computer is running Thunderbird for emails.  But it can't import address lists and it can't really separate groups of recipients into folders except under a master list that contains all addresses in all folders which is kind of awkward.

Can you recommend a more list-friendly client that I can use for club and customer emails?

Thank you kindly.

A:Wanted: List-friendly email client, which Thunderbird isn't

Hiya

First off, have you tried a restore of your system, to see if they can be recovered:

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;Q306084

That's assuming its XP of course.

If not, you may want to look at this:

A:Import address book from Thunderbird to OE6

Not straightforward but do-able: http://www.freeemailtutorials.com/mozillaThunderbird/exportAddressBooks.cwd
Or this (seems simpler than the above):

First Export the Address Book from Thunderbird to the Desktop.
Tools > Address Book
If you have created more than one Address Book, select the one you want to Export.
Tools > Export
Save the file as an .ldif file to the Desktop.

Open Outlook Express and Import the Address Book,
File > Import > Other Address Book

Select LDIF - LDAP Data Interchange Format
Click Import

The Address Book should be Imported.

I'm on a MacBook Pro running 10.6.4 and using Thunderbird 3.0.6. (I've been with the Mac 2 years and with Thunderbird much longer, pretty much without problems.) I spent most of yesterday editing some address books and set up a couple of new lists. Today, I find my new address books have vanished without a trace.

I can't pin down relevant differences between the list of .mab files that show now in my directory ("finder" data/library/T-bird) and those that appear in the time machine back-up from a few days ago. In both there are address books 1, 2, and 5, no 3 no 4). But I don't usually view this directory and may not have a good eye for what counts. When I attempt to open the back-up copies, which I think I can do only with T-bird, it appears I am shunted to the new data.

Should I assume the work I did is lost and gone forever?

I'm running windows xp and mozilla thunderbird e-mail client. Recently, my

A:How to restore/reload thunderbird address book

[Taoyuan]

Try to find the following:

X:\Documents and Settings\Username\Application Data\Thunderbird\Profiles\youraccount.default\

(with X being the letter of your old drive, Username your Username and youraccount your Thunderbird account name)

You will find all the data here, esp. in the subfolder \Mail\Local Folders\, where your old email boxes are stored. If you have not used Thunderbird on the new install yet, just copy the old boxes to the new location. If you already have new email in your inbox or so, remember to move them first to a neutral mailbox, one that will not be overwritten.
Your address book should be the abook.mab file.

Hi
my address books are messed up.
collected is there, personal is empty and my business one just disappeared.

I went to my profile folder and the abook.mab files are still there and populated.

A few days before I was having trouble with address books, so I researched online, found info about corrupted abooks and sure enough found a lot of garbage in the files such as <(80=0)> {1:^80 {(k^C0:c)(s=9)} [1:^82(^BF=0)]} which I deleted.

Now I am following directions from this post
http://forums.techguy.org/web-email/792343-thunderbird-abooks.html
but it's not working.

When I look at the new abook-4 file created for the new address book, it already has the above garbage in it.

When I delete the new abook-4 file and then rename the file that does have the addresses in it to abook-4, and then go back to thunderbird, the new address book is empty.

Now what?

I'm guessing I need to back-up the abooks that have addresses in them, and create a new profile, and then copy the populated abooks to the new profile, after making sure any garbage is deleted?

How do address books gets corrupt in the first place?
How do I prevent it from happening?

thanks in advance!

Thunderbird seems to have two address books, one it names Collected Addresses and another it names Personal Address Book.

I have imported my addresses from Eudora into Thunderbird and instead of importing them into Personal Address Book, it made a new address book called Address Book. Now I have three address books and there seems to be no way to integrate them. Also, when I am reading a mail and decide I want that address in my address book, it goes into Personal Address Book (which is empty), not Address Book where all my other addresses are.

There seems to be no way to move one or more addresses from one address book to another. Personal Address Book is not deletable so I thought of moving the addresses from Address Book (where all my addresses are currently) to Personal Address Book; but, it seems Thunderbird doesn't allow for this either.

I would like to be able to export these 200+ addresses from Address Book (that got made when I imported my addresses from Eudora) and import them into Personal Address Book to simplify this address book clutter.

So, does anyone have a workaround for this?

My wife is running Thunderbird 3.0 on a Dell Latitude D420, with WindowsXP Professional. She mentioned to me last night that she had received an email which showed up under the Sender column as being from my brother, and showed his full name, just like the "label" associated with his email address was reflected in the stored address book.

She thought that was a little unusual since receiving an email from my brother is about as likely as finding a Snickers bar at a Weight Watchers convention. When I looked and checked the full email address, it was not from my brother's email provider, but reflected his First and Last Name and then some unknown email domain. As you might now have already expected, the email message contained a hyperlink to some URL that my brother thought my wife "would be interested in taking a look at".

I've had very limited problems with email being compromised by viruses, and we run both AVG 9.0 and Ad-Aware regularly on both of our computers - and neither have logged any suspected problems. Clearly something is "amiss", but I'm not sure what, nor do I know what the fix might be. I'm probably completely capable of erradicating the problem, and I know that email address books are susceptible to being hijacked, it's never happened to us, and this one is unfamiliar to me, and I sure don't understand how an actual email Sender name got incorporated into what was clearly a little out-of-season phi... Hi terrawarra,

I had to do this at work a while back. It's a bit of a game but check out this article.

Basically you export the Thunderbird data as a CSV file, import it to OE and map the data to the headers (ie tell OE what the entries in the address book mean).

Though I didn't need it in the end, I started by making a backup of my data first using MozBackup.
