Can I delete these protocol lines without issue?

Q: Can I delete these protocol lines without issue?

After booting up my toshiba laptop with a nice new upgrade to XP Pro from XP Home, my computer lags when it's trying to load the programs it should be loading at start up (Norton, printer driver, firewall, etc).Half the time, it'll lag for 2 minutes then start all programs and run as normal. Other half, it'll lag for 2 minutes then pop up the error box "Generic Host Process for Win32 Services...." and it says it needs to terminate the svchost.exe program. Oddly enough, it'll pop up enough of those same exact error boxes for every time the computer has started up since it LAST showed the error box. For example, I restart 6 times, getting a lag every time, and the 7th time when I restart it'll lag PLUS show 7 of those error boxes.My HijackThis log shows A LOT of "protocol" lines regarding Logitech's Desktop Messenger. I've deleted all the Logitech Desktop Messenger files on my laptop, but these lines remain. Is it safe to delete them or do you think it could/would cause serious issues with my laptop? Please see my log below to see the lines I'm referring to.... Thanks....Logfile of HijackThis v1.99.1Scan saved at 2:31:51 PM, on 8/5/2005Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600)MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180)Running processes:C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exeC:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXEC:\WINDOWS\System32\00THotkey.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\TFNF5.exeC:\Program Files\SigmaTel\SigmaTel AC97 Audio Drivers\stacmon.exeC:\WINDOWS\AGRSMMSG.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TouchED\TouchED.ExeC:\WINDOWS\System32\ezSP_Px.exeC:\Program Files\Toshiba\TOSHIBA Controls\TFncKy.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccApp.exeC:\toshiba\ivp\ism\pinger.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\spool\drivers\w32x86\3\hpztsb09.exeC:\Program Files\Viewpoint\Viewpoint Manager\ViewMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Real\Update_OB\realsched.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\TPSBattM.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\ctfmon.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\TOSCDSPD\toscdspd.exeC:\WINDOWS\system32\RAMASST.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exeC:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccProxy.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccSetMgr.exeC:\Program Files\TOSHIBA\ConfigFree\CFSvcs.exeC:\WINDOWS\System32\DVDRAMSV.exeC:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Antivirus\navapsvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~3\NORTON~2\NPROTECT.EXEC:\WINDOWS\system32\nvsvc32.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\SNDSrvc.exeC:\PROGRA~1\NORTON~3\NORTON~2\SPEEDD~1\NOPDB.EXEC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\CCPD-LC\symlcsvc.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\ccEvtMgr.exeC:\Program Files\Common Files\Symantec Shared\Security Center\SymWSC.exeC:\Program Files\Norton SystemWorks\Norton Antivirus\SAVScan.exeC:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exeC:\Program Files\HijackThis\HijackThis.exeR1 - Preferred Solution: Can I delete these protocol lines without issue?

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi,
I have a strange problem with my uncles desktop pc. That pc has to be always on for video recording but once in a while Windows will automatically reboot and i just can't exactly find out why.
But why i did found out is that he's always getting 3 error messages (in the Windows event viewer) about 20 min prior to the unplanned reboot.
These are the error message in the event viewer:
1) The following fatal alert was generated: 10. The internal error state is 1203 --> Schannel ID3688 --> time: 19:00
2) The same as above on the exact same time with same event
3) RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client --> TermDD ID50 --> Time: 19:48 (about 25 min prior to the reboot)
Who can help me out here. This is driving me crazy. Sometimes we miss days of recording, while we aren't using that PC for other things.
Thanks in advance!

I did quite a bit of online research prior to asking my own question, but none of  the solutions I've found online really pertain to the issue we're experiencing.
We have 2 Windows 7 Pro PCs in the office.  They are accessed via RDP from within the same network/location.  The systems that are accessing these 2 PCs are an XP Pro machine and a Mac.  The clients stay connected for randomly lengths of time
(no longer than 1 hour) before the session goes black and disconnects them randomly.  When the disconnect occurs, it's not due to inactivity.  The user has to wait several minutes before they are able to reconnect.
On the Windows 7 PCs, Event Viewer gives:
Event ID: 50  The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.
Event ID: 56  The Terminal Server security layer detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.
I've seen suggestions of checking registry keys and a lot of suggestions regarding Windows Server and Terminal Server, but they don't apply to our situation.  Please let me know if more information is required.  Thank you!

A:The RDP protocol component X.224 detected an error in the protocol stream and has disconnected the client.

Hi,

Do you enable the
IEEE 802.1x authentication?

Regarding the issue, I suggest updating the network adapter driver manually on Windows 7 PCs. Also update the router's driver and firmware.

If the issue persists, you could disable the TCP Offload. To do this,

a.
Run the following commands on both the client and the server to disable NIC offloading.

netsh int tcp set global chimney=disabled

netsh int tcp set global rss=disabled

b.
Modify the following registry key to disable netDMA on the client and the server.

HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SYSTEM\CurrentControlSet\Services\Tcpip\Parameters\EnableTCPA

Note: If this registry entry does not exist, right-click Parameters, point to New, click DWORD Value, type EnableTCPA, and then press ENTER.

Value: 0

You can also refer to the following KB to troubleshoot the issue. Hope it helps.

Hello Good Morning Thanks for reading this.

I made a form. I put some VBA Code in it. I added some form fields, buttons and some checkboxes on a user form. I am not sure what the up and down arrows are called but I have a bunch of those. The form is perfect for what i need, except, when i print the workbook there are three horizonal dashed oddly spaced lines printing. I can not see them in the normal view, i can not see them in the page break preview. I see a few dashed squiggles in the print preview in the place that the lines print, but I can not for the life of me figure out how they got there. I tried to delete in the cell, i tried to adjust the line settings by changing size and color. i tried to cover the spot with a white text box. i tried to delete the entire row. then i tried to delete the entire top part of my form the lines just moved closer to the top of the page. then i tried to see if a copy and paste helped (although I did it into another worksheet in the same workbook) it just took the lines when i pasted. i even tried, edit, goto, special, objects and the action was to select the first text box i have on the form. I believe that the lines might have appreared after inserting a form field (button i think) and then moving it to a different location. I am using Excel 2002 and if anyone has any idea of what is going on here, i would really be greatful for the help!

Thanks!!!!!

The form is attached

A:.bat file script to delete last 5 lines

I'm not super familiar with TSV files but if they can be opened with Excel you can easily add a few lines of macro code to delete the last 5 lines and then re-save. If they can't be opened Excel you can try to use VBS script to open the file and modify it. If you can you post a sample file I can try to code it for you.

Hi all,

I have a question.
I'm trying to build a VB script, that can select and delete several lines of text in a word document. The Document is too large to do it by hand (almost 400 pages), but the pieces of text that need to be removed from the document always start with </par> and end with </rubriek>
I made a script to delete the lines containing <par>, but these skip the lines that don't contain this tag, which happens often:

<code>
Sub FindItem1()
Selection.Find.ClearFormatting
With Selection.Find
.Text = "<par>"
.Replacement.Text = ""
.Forward = True
.Wrap = wdFindContinue
.Format = False
.MatchCase = False
.MatchWholeWord = False
.MatchWildcards = False
.MatchSoundsLike = False
.MatchAllWordForms = False
End With
If Selection.Find.Execute Then
Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdLine
Selection.EndKey Unit:=wdLine, Extend:=wdExtend
Selection.Delete
End If
End Sub
</code>
Does anybody have a better idea than this? I can't immagine that it is very hard to do, I just cant find the appropriate VB code online.

Thanks,
With kind regards,
Saraal

Hi,

Could anyone help: I have hundreds of .doc files that all begin with similar text, exactly 102 lines that I need to delete from the beginning of each file. Is there a macro that could do this?

Thanks!

A:Word macro: Delete 102 lines from beginning of document

I don't do Word macros but ... did you try recording something yourself?

I did, and got:

Selection.HomeKey Unit:=wdStory
Selection.MoveDown Unit:=wdLine, Count:=4, Extend:=wdExtend
Selection.Cut

Obviously that's for just the first 4 lines. And the next thing will be where the docs are all stored. (?)

Hi, I am getting random lines or colors when I go to desktop or hit refresh. It appears randomly. While playing games, running other applications, it doesn't seem to appear, but still, it appears randomly. Here is an image of a same web page, opened in two different tabs. You can see that in the rightmost part of the screen(where we have the option to scroll the web page) there are two tiny lines of red color. Its there in one tab, but not in any of the other tabs in the browser. Here are those two tabs.

There is also a small white-squared box near the right side, but that one is my mouse cursor.

Any help is greatly appreciated. Thank you.

I have just received Dell Studio 1735 laptop, with glossy LCD 1440x900, opened the box and powered it.

The problem it it has thin vertical black lines/stripes (hundreds of them) on the complete screen.

They show up in Windows, in Bios, everywhere (e.g. in Bios running diagnostics, they show up against the gray progress bars)... in Windows they show up against any light color (white, yellow, gray, etc.).
It's hard to explain what it is so I have attached camera shots. They are not super-top resolution shots but you can get an idea of what I am looking at. It's quite annoying to see the screen like that... the lines/stripes are all over, at regular intervals... like every one or two pixels apart. Is this normal? I haven't seen anything like that on any LCD monitor or panel....

Is it bad LCD screen? Or some other (simpler) issue?

P.S. I have connected a regular LCD monitor (matte) to the laptop and the picture on that external monitor is OK, no lines/stripes.

Also, the diagnostics (w/ F12 at boot) has been run with no problems encountered.

What is the real cause of the issue with the horizontal lines flickering on the screen of Lenovo Y50 laptop when operating on ac adapter? Is it motherboard, a screen ribbon or something else?There were a couple of threads about it as it seems to be pretty common issue with Y50. Unfortunately, those threads either evolved into "Me too" complaint chain with no real solution suggestion or "I sent mine under warranty" and no follow-up case. If we could get some actual answers in this thread, it would be very helpful for Lenovo Y50 owners. I have recently replaced a motherboard on my Y50. I used to have the horizonal lines issue on my old motherboard. Unfortunately, my Y50 with new motherboard also has this issue, less frequent though. I am not sure if the replacement motherboard is faulty or whether the root cause of the issue lies outside the motherboard.

I bought this laptop on 24th March,2016. By June last week, lines are coming in the display. I registered a complaint by writing an email. The reference number for that interaction was 222543331. After 1 month, on July 16th, I got a mail that the parts has been arrived. The Service Order: 7007463988 . On 20th August, the service engineer told me that he will come by noon. I waited till afternoon 4 p.m., & I went outside. He came to my site at 6p.m. He changed the display & touchpad. I told him to check my laptop`s card reader. The next day when I opened my laptop, it was having the same display issue. I called the service centre agent at that time & he agreed that he will check the issue. By the evening , I went to his place & showed the issue.  He understood the complaint & he assured me that he will report the card reader issue & the display issue. Till August 27th, I have not received any call from the service centre agency. I again reported the issue to the lenovo technical support team.On 30th August, I escalated the issue. By 1st September, I got the call from service centre. I was not able to take the call at that time & I replied to him by sms. Hope lenovo will take care of my issue & resolve it.Thank you,Joe

 I have had a HPL2245w monitor for a number of years. Now the display has faint/transparent horizontal lines, continously scrolling on my display. They are visible on a white background. On dark/black background they are not noticeable.  I recently changed the pc to on-board graphics. I checked the monitor drivers and it says they are updated. I checked resolution and refresh rates and they are those required by the monitor. I tried to change the power cable, and also to move it to a different power source. I also restored the monitor to factory settings. But those faint scrolling lines are still there.  I'd like to know if this could be a sign that the monitor is "breaking", or whether there are solutions to this. Or could it be that I've downgraded from a dedicated graphics card to on-board graphics? Thanks a lot for your help!

Hi,
Please try the steps below for LCD BIST to check if you see any lines or bands on the screen.
1) Turn the computer off.2) Press and hold the D key while pressing the power button. This will start the BIST.3) The screen will display multiple flashing colors. 4) Look for lines, distortion, or any other video issues you have observed.5) The laptop will restart when the test is finished.

Hi, all.

Here's the story. At the start of January, my graphics card started acting up. I was on my PC just looking around my files when suddenly the entire screen turned to a light blue. It then crashed and when I booted it up again into Windows, there were horizontal lines across the screen. The color of the lines were green and purple. After about 10 seconds, it crashed again. This happened every time it loaded into windows.

I was positive that this had something to do with the GPU so I went into safe mode with networking and everything was fine. I then figured out that the drivers were the issue so I went into normal mode and then disabled the drivers for the GPU. This fixed the issue but my resolution was a lot lower (1400x1050 from 1920x1080.).

I then uninstalled all the drivers using GURU 3D driver sweeper in safe mode and then reinstalled the latest drivers. This did not fix anything. I haven't bothered fixing the issue since then because I've been very busy and have had no time to use my PC.

My pc is connected to my monitor via DVI to VGA.

Thank you all in advance.

I've seen some other posts for different models about similar issues, but it doesn't seem like mine really falls within the same problems as the others. If I am wrong, please let me know as I would love to have this fixed once and for all. Starting in September 2018, after moving, my M93z all-in-one screen got some lines in it, and it would flicker depending on where on the screen windows were placed. If white colors were behind the lines, it didn't like that. If it was black, it wouldn't flicker, but the lines were still there. I started using an external monitor exclusively. Fast forward to August 2019. I move again, this time from Boston to Sarasota, FL. The M93z rode on its side on the floor in the front passenger seat of my car which was on a trailer being towed by a 26' UHAUL truck. When I boot up the PC after the move, the screen is cured! It works like a charm for a month. But starting today, it is back to how it was. No, it didn't sustain any big bumps or shocks since it was set up in its current position. Only difference is that I left it on overnight to update to the latest version of Windows. When I woke up, the lines were back. I have opened it back when this issue first happened, jiggled cables around, nothing seems to affect it. I was about to buy a new screen for it until it fixed itself back in August 2019. Anyway, any help is appreciated. Thank you. PS: Pictures of the screen are attached...the "quality" of the lines seem t... Read more

Hi, Can anyone help,
I am trying to perform a mailmerge in word 2002. I am having a problem around address lines, and eliminating blank address lines when I merge .

Thanks

A:word 2002 mailmerge issue eliminating blank lines

Not my area ...

... when you perform the last step (the dialog box title is simply "Merge"), there's a group box containing 2 "when merging records" options. Are you sure the "don't print blank lines" option is checked?

I've always worked around this anyway, by having address fields unstructured. By which I mean I'll have 5 or 6 address fields in the data source and just fill them up from the left, rather than having a "static" one at the far right for post (zip) code. That way, you stick all the fields in the merge letter and you don't get "Dear ..." appearing 2-3 lines further down on some pages (the ones with "full" addresses) than on others.

Andy

Hello,

I have a problem with my computer. I just restarted it, and it ended up booting with purple/blue lines all over the screen.

So the first thing i did was go into device manager. All it told me was a caution symbol next to my NVIDIA geForce 8500 GT. so i downloaded and reinstalled the drivers for it. No effect.

Then i booted into safe mode to find if it was a motherboard issue. The lines remained.

At this point im asking all of you at this fourm, what is the issue and how do i fix it? Thank you.

A:Purple/blue lines over screen, not sure if driver or motherboard issue

If its an add in card re-seat it in its slot and make sure any power cables are securely connected. You may want to unplug the power supply from the wall plug so your PC doesn't accidentally start up while you are working on it. Also make sure the heat sink is free of dust and the fan (if it has one) is working correctly. You may want to check your case fans for dust too while you have the case open.

Someone can help me to identify this issue. What is it?###Description of the issue:* Eventually pop up white horizontal lines. Especially when you stretching the screen.* Sometimes screen stay freeze when the horizontal lines show up, as in the video.Thanks for reading.*Additional notes*:* I saw the lines in the BIOS setup.* I tried a preview of a linux OS, I saw the lines too. The two things above indicate that isn't a software problem.

I have a problem with my display adapter Intel driver version 22.20.16.4771. It is causing a problem of vertical lines on the screen when waking up from sleep, the only option is to reboot the machine.
I previously solved this problem by rolling back to the driver in the device manager to the previous version 21.20.16.4542. This fixed the issue until a recent update on 8th November when my driver was updated again.
Now when I enter the device manager the option to Roll Back Driver option is greyed out.
I've tried searching for a download of the old driver but can't find one.
Can anyone help with this problem?
And then once I've fixed it is there a way to stop the driver updating itself again?

A:Inspiron 3650 back from sleep issue - vertical lines on screen - rollback Intel driver problem

Assuming you are running Windows 10? With Windows 10, it is possible to stop it from auto updating drivers. Read this.You should download and save the Intel driver to its own folder on the C: drive in case you need to reinstall it again.I do not use sleep or hibernate modes on any of my computers (laptops or desktops). The only powersave option I use is the setting to turn the monitor off after 5 minutes. At the end of the work day, I save my data and close all running applications. I then turn the computers off.

I would appear my old Win98, only used several hours a month for dial email and some net surfing PC got some sort of trojan virus which Norton could not irradicate. 'Bargain Buddy' among other things.

Anyway, to get to the point, I downloaded and ran Ad Aware Se 1.05, the free version. It found a bunch of junk. I select them all and click: YES to fix the problems. It says it will remove everthing selected. A delete bar then appears. It gets a third of the way thru and just stops. It never continues, I can not close the bar yet I can get to the screen behing it and quaranteen the file. I have not heard back from lava soft. I uninstalled Ad Aware and tried again...same thing.

Also, after all, WINDOWS EXPLORER does not work. It brings up and IE error (yes an IE error, note IE does not work either). Also I can no longer click MY COMPUTER or go START SETTINGS; again the IE error. I re-installed IE6 but it made no difference.

The only good news is that my dial up works and I have Netscape. The little 'Bargain Buddy' dog is gone, things are working at normal speed again. I can no longer use WINDOWS EXPLORER though.

My PC came with only a master restore disk that I am hesitant to use. I do have my Dad's Win98 disks and key...I am tempted to try to reinstall WIN98.

From my Firefox all downloads go to that folder.

Now recently I moved the download folder with all contains to my D: disk.
Only forgot to also change this in my firefox so i downloaded a file and it was put in the download folder on my F:.

Now my problem i couldn`t delete the folder on my F: didn`t had the permission so i opend a elevated cmd and typed "del D:\Downloads".
For those who notice i deleted the contains of my downloads map instead of the map i wanted to delete.

Is there a way to change back anything deleted from the del command in cmd?

Hope to receive a quick answer.

BTW: don`t have backup of the files ironically i was busy with that yesterday but thought to skip it another day.

Sounds as though you are still infected with a Google Redirect virus and would be best if you opened a new thread in the Virus & Trojan section after reading NEW INSTRUCTIONS - Read This Before Posting For Malware Removal Help

If there's anything you are unable to do for whatever reason, then go onto the next step but say so in your opening post.

It's a busy section but if your thread hasn't been picked up within 72hrs then give it a BUMP.

In the meantime you may be able to browse if you boot up into Safe Mode with Networking but not all drivers/devices are loaded.

Look like my backup is getting huge as it run on daily schedule.

There's no issue if I choose to delete my old backup and retain the latest, right?
For instance, I start backing up on Nov till Jan. I deleted Nov, Dec and Jan Backup, retaining the latest one only. Start re run the backup, the system will detect and re backup the modified files/ folders?

If this is correct, will my files be as huge as now?

I just worry that if I deleted the dates that I backup before, it will not be backup at all.

Hope that I didn't sound confusing tho.

If you are talking about system restore, no problem

I find that a restore point several times a week, plus a system image is the best way for me. If a problem does arise, I have old points to return to. I may have a virus even today and not realize for many weeks.

Hi all, I have a problem that, to me, is VERY bizarre(maybe I'm simple)...
I have XP Pro(SP2 & up to date w/ MS)- Hijack This, Adaware SE & Norton all say I'm clean & overall-performance agrees.

In a reckless-cursor moment I accidentally sent a copy of my "Program Files" to my CD drive(ha... 3.5Gigs). So in my CD Drive Window, under "CD writing tasks", several attempts of selecting "Delete Temporary Files" & "right click- Delete" of the "Folder" left me w/ "access is denied" messages in a "Error Deleting File or Folder" window. Task Manager was no help & yes I was useing Admin-Priveliges. Here's where I started to get confused....While on the CD waiting to be written window, the Folder icon had the little black arrow bottom left-- I assume suggesting it's a shortcut path for burning retreival/destination. I was finally able to remove the icon by simply dragging it to my Desktop. CD Drive files-waiting: Gone!

My first confusion: ... when the icon "arrived" on my Desktop, it was no longer showing as a shortcut! It "became"(Genesis?) a Folder(size 60Mb & the only contents are "Adobe/Acrobat 7.0 with "Help, Reader & Resource" sub folders... Unlike my legit "Program Files", the right click menu did allow the option to re-name "this" "Program Files" folder.

I'm running Vista Business x64 which came with my PC. From my old PC which was running XP Pro x32 I copied over my Favorites and all has worked OK for the last 8 months. On my old XP system I renamed the browser links folder to "_IE Links" which is what I copied over to my new system. I've always had the latest IE browser installed on my system and since the release of FireFox I've always had the latest installed and primarily use it as my browser. I also have multiple PC (WinXP x32, Vista x32, Win7 x32). The big challenge was keeping the browser favorites in-sync so I installed Xmarks as an add-in for FF and IE. This worked great until this week and I noticed that Xmarks had a sync issue. I started to look into the problem and discovered that in the Favorites folder I had two folders for "_IE Links". Looking at the entries in Windows Explorer the names look to be the same. If I opened the first it only had one folder in it thus I knew that this was not valid, looking at the contents of the second everything looked ok and when I use FF or IE they show the correct list of bookmarks. When I attempt to delete the first "_IE Links" (the bad one) Windows Explorer goes through the motion of deleting the folder but it remains listed. I also tried deleting it in Safe mode but got the same results.

Any idea how I remove the bogus "_IE Links" folder and its contents of one folder?

First my surge protectors are on, my computer and lights go out, they both come back on, (as usual), but this time, my computer states that it cannot load my profile "corrupt file" or something like that. I don't remember the exact wording. Then, I clicked okay, then another screen said this was a temporary profile and when I log off, nothing will be saved. Well, it brings me to my desktop which ALL my STUFF is gone, my desktop wallpaper, my jpgs that I had saved and were going to upload (but forgot), one particular folder that I keep a variety of things in were gone. It sounds like you're talking about the WMP MRU (Most Recently Used) list. You can delete all items by going to Tools > Options > Privacy tab and click on 'Clear History'. You can also stop WMP from saving them by unchecking 'Save file and URL history in the player'.

I have WMP 10, so if you have 11 the options might be a little bit different.

I would like to open a thread on this major privacy spy folder one more time to see if anyone has, or can create a program to effectively allow users to delete this folder and its contents without harm to the operating system.

Google this folder and you can read about numerous requests to delete this folder and info.

The contents of this folder can not be deleted, cleared, or reduced in size by ANY user accessable buttons or menus built into Windows or IE. Privacy mode does NOT prevent the logging of this information.

In summary, beginning with Internet Explorer 10 and continuing through IE11 and now the new Edge, Microsoft switched from using index.dat files to this data base folder to RETAIN ALL THE WEBSITES YOU VISIT, HOW OFTEN, BY WHAT MEANS, AS WELL AS DATA YOU ENTER INTO FORMS ETC.

There is now a question when using Windows 10 and all Microsoft's telemety/privacy concerns as to whether they have access to this folder/file information.

Google INTERNET EXPLORER FORENSICS and you will find numerous articles on how people who want to obtain all this information from your computer can do so (hackers, government, attorneys, authorities, etc).

Originally Microsoft explained that capturing this information in index.dat files speeded up Internet Explorer. However the index.dat could be deleted if the user desired.
IE 10 was redesigned and computers are much faster so they went to a new ESE database design to retain even more information on users usage - for what pu... Read more

Hi All,

Have a problem that sounds super simple, but, for some reason isn't... I can't delete a folder!

There is a folder left over from an uninstalled product called "Symantec". When I attempt to delete this, I get the message "You require permission from SYSTEM to make changes to this file". Clicking the "Try Again" button does nothing and the same message reappears.

I have tried to take ownership of the file through Properties > Security > Advanced, however, I get this error:
"An error occured while applying security information to (file path). Failed to enumerate objects in the contianer. Access is denied."

I have also tried to use an elevated command prompt to run the takeown command on this directory, however, get the "Access is denied." message for all files.

Any ideas on how to delete this file - unlocker does not work either!

Appreciating any help on this matter.

Thanks,

Ok so I am using Word 2010 and I have a document template that has textboxes in it for placing photographs in. Simple enough to insert a picture into the textboxes, BUT what happens if I want to remove or delete a picture from one of the textboxes because I have made an error choosing the wrong photo or something? It deletes the picture AND the textbox! Surely there is a way (aside from using the undo button, which is not always practical) to be able to remove the picture and leave the textbox behind.

Please help!

A:Word 2010 textbox and picture delete issue

Word is not the 'friendliest' to work with but I cannot reproduce it here.

I put a textbox in a document and a picture in the text box, just click the picture, press delete and choose a new one to insert (when in the textbox) no problem.

I attached 2 documents, one in 2003 and the same saved as 2007/2010

Maybe the textbox frame is too tight around the picture frame so when you think you selected the picture, you selected the texbox frame, then of course all is deleted
