I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hello, I updated my OS to Windows 10. Everything works perfectly except of trackpoint/touchpad. The first issue is really a critical one - trackpoint buttons are practically useless. Single button click causes the mouse click event multiple times - for example opens 6 new cards in a web browser instead of one. I've found another post here describing in detail exactly the same problem but the author didn't get any response, neither from HP nor the community: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/HP-Elitebook-8570w-built-in-mou... The driver delivered with Windows (which is also listed as compatible with Windows 10 on HP's 8570w support site http://h20564.www2.hp.com/hpsc/swd/public/detail?sp4ts.oid=5257503&swItemId=ob_152050_1&swEnvOid=419... version 19.0.12.0, causes the problems I mentioned earlier. The updated one from Synaptics website (19.0.19.1) additionaly prevents the OS from detecting the middle button... Additionally, the only gestures I can use are the basic ones - no advanced 3- or 4-finger ones (please don't tell me that the hardware is incompatible because similar gestures worked on Windows 8.1 I used earlier). I have a dual boot with Win10 and Linux and on Linux everything works flawlessly, so it's definitely not a hardware problem What should I do to make my touchpad and trackpoint fully functional?

Hello, I tried to upgrade to windows 8 and found that the touchpad became super sensitive and jumpy. Reading online I found a firmware that claimed to fix the issue and found it on HPs Support site. Mid install, it reported that it failed and forced a reboot on the laptop. When it was back up and running I found that the touchpad no longer worked. Its exactly the same issue as in these links: http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Software-and-How-To-Questions/Touchpad-Not-Working-After-Faile... http://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Operating-System-and-Recovery/Touchpad-Firmware-Failed/td-p/23... I've tried to reflash and to get new drivers but they are not able to go through. The drivers install but don't fix anything. The flashing will quit saying I need drivers first even though I have them.  I've even reformated and put the factory windows 7 image back on but it still will not work. The solutions posted in the above links didnt work for me.  Does anyone have any idea on how I can fix this?

Recently got a new Carbon x1, and everything was working fine, but once I closed the laptop and when I woke it up neither TrackPoint nor touchpad was working. Reboots didn't help. Tried installing Synaptics drivers - it said there was no device for update. Device manager detects the touchpad as Microsoft mouse with corresponding drivers (screenshot attached).  Also tried installing update for TrackPoint from the drivers list, it said it needed a reboot to install, after reboot there was an error window that suggested trying once again, several times I saw this message.Anyone have this? Are there any possible solutions?(Searched on the forum, but the solutions were not for my case or didn't work)P.S. It would be kinda stupid for a $1500 laptop not to work because of a touchpad

GreetingsFirst time posting seeing if anyone else is having issues with the X1 Carbon trackpoint/touchpad freezing up on Windows 8.For me it is freezing up every 20min while I am using it, and also when I unplug the AC power. The mouse will freeze up but the keyboard works fine. Usually I am forced to reboot.A USB mouse will work fine during this freeze. I have tried installing all windows updates, Lenovo updates and even system recovery to a date when I didn't have issues but nothing seems to work. Anyone else have this issue? Its been very frustrating owning this x1, as I am on my second one after the first one died on me.

Hi, changuri

I would recommend trying to install the Synaptics base driver and see if that helps your issues. Synaptics is the company that produces the UltraNav driver for Lenovo, so there should not be any loss of functionality, but it tends to fix issues like this in my experience. This driver can be found here. Try downloading and installing that and see if it helps.

Best of luck,
Adam

So, during the windows installer, no mouse. I couldn't see the pointer, neither the touchpad or trackpoint worked. I managed through using the keyboard, then once I got to the desktop I installed the "Synaptics ThinkPad UltraNav Driver for Windows 10 (64-bit) - ThinkPad" driver and rebooted. Still not working. I installed the thinkvantage system update, it detects no updates. I installed the service bridge. No updates. I then made a linux live USB that I use to install manjaro on all my laptops, yes everything worked out of the box on my previous x1 carbon. Touchpad doesn't work, xorg doesn't even recognize any touchpad present. Anyone else have this? Any solutions? This is actually my 2nd X1 carbon; the first works well but the mouse buttons are loose so Lenovo promised waived restocking and shipping with the purchase of a new order of equal or greater value; I ordered another one with plans to return the first one, because I really needed to keep it for work while I waited for the new one. The new one is actually flawless in terms of build, mouse buttons are solid, the CMOS battery is not loose and producing a rattling noise as it is in the first one, and the bottom cover doesn't have the clicking noise that so many are afflicted with. Really I'm willing to try anything to fix the touchpad.

I recently bought a refurbished Carbon X1. The trackpoint and the touchpad top buttons don't work. The touchpad and bottom button do work. Touchscreen does work. So far, everything else has been okay. The "Enable Trackpoint" checkbox is greyed out in Control Panel / Hardware / Mouse / Thinkpad tab. After searching forums and web, I have tried the following, none of which have worked:- update all drivers - ensure windows 7 updates are up to date- uninstall lenovo driver and install synaptics driver (didn't work)  then reinstall lenovo driver (didn't work)- disable and enable trackpoint in BIOS (with reboots in between)- reset, power off, and reset via the hole in the base No luck so far. Any assistance greatly appreciated. Thanks!

Hi guys, I was trying to mess around with the touchpad driver on my new bought xps 13.
I tried with the latest driver on Synaptics website, but it didn't help much.
Then I found a driver on dell website that turned out to be a firmware update. Its for the 2015 version xps 13 so its outdated. I tried it anyways, and then the touchpad stopped working.
Right now the device manager cannot even detect my touchpad, and the firmware version shows from firmware update software changed from 2xxxxx to unknown.
It would be much appreciated if someone can give me the latest/compatible touchpad firmware for dell xps 13 9360. The executive file called SynReflash.exe, and it comes with mup file and package file.

I have the same problem. the touchpad is still visable in the device manager but under the tab " View -> show hidden devices" I contacted dell support trough e-mail but only got the question how it happened.
I hope to get the firmware to and hope they fix the problem so not more people make the same mistake.

I am trying to find a way that the touch pad and trackpoint will disable when I connect an external mouse.  Other computers I've used have a setting for this, but I can not find one the Carbon X1. I don't want to disable them permanently (or at least not both of them) for those few times I'm not using an external mouse. My preference would be to disable one permanently, and the other only when an external mouse is present. Thanks

Hi, mkmchughIf there is such an option available, it would be with the mouse settings. Do you see anything related to disabling them with a USB mouse connected when you go to Mouse under Control panel and go to I believe is the Thinkpad tab?

Dear all, I'm having trouble with both my touchpad&trackpoint not working properly. I am not sure whether there's something to do about my hardware or not, but all things started to mess up. I have been experiencing the issue that sometimes my touchpad and trackpoint didn't work. At first I solved it through disabling driver signature enforcement, but later on both the touchpad and trackpoint lost its function after I hibernate/sleep. I have to restart the system and select that advanced boot option again to use them. I don't know the exact time the issue started to deepen, but, I'm guessing that it's about the touchpad firmware update. I installed it someday and after rebooting the program told me that the attempt to update is failed. And after that the touchpad&trackpoint became completely unusable. Both the device can be seen in the device manager but they just lost their functions. I have tried reinstalling the driver and all the installing progress seem to be completed except the firmware updating failure. Here's the log from TrackPointDetect.exe: TouchPad-Flash Utility2018-08-24 23:38:14Command Line: TrackPointDetect.exeOS: 64-bit[WARNING]: WriteCommand 0xF5 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 1: WriteCommand 0xF5 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 2: WriteCommand 0xF5 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: WriteCommand 0xE8 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 1: WriteCommand 0xE8 => 0xFE failed.[WARNING]: Retry 2: WriteComman... I am running Windows 10 on an Acer and recently downloaded and installed the update for the Synaptic touchpad (January 17, 2017).  After rebooting my laptop, I can use the touch pad to move the cursor when logging in, but once the system as loaded,
I cannot move the cursor using the touch pad.  I can left-click and right-click, and shrink and expand on the touch pad, but have no control over the cursor.  I currently have a mouse attached to the computer in order to move the cursor.
When I click on the link for more information about the update, there currently is no information.  Quite frustrating.
Please advise as how to resolve this issue.

Hello, I had no problems with the touchpad in my first two months of owning this computer. Recently when I try to use the touchpad, the cursor bounces all over the place and I have no control over it. This is espescially annoying when I am at work and need this to work correctly when I am gathering data in an excel doc. I noticed there was a 1.17 firmware update for the synaptics driver in the care center, but when I click to install it will run for a second and then say "failed". Just updated BIOS and every other driver I could think of but it makes no difference.

Hi ! Have you trying Unistalling the driver for the Touchpad? Must of the times unistalling the drivers and restarting your unit will actually fix the issue. If you access the Device Manager (Press Windows key +X)> Select Device Manager > Mice and other pointer device, Right Click> Unistall> Restart. Some updated on Windows sometimes will disable the proper Drivers for your unit. Hope this could help you!

Hello Everyone! So here's the situation. I updated my m6-1045dx to Windows 8 Fresh Install. Among those that I applied was sp58572.exe found here which I will refer to as "patch". However, for some reason, the updater quit and now, my touchpad DOES NOT WORK. I think it's a firmware issue in the sense that I've already reinstalled Windows 8 TWICE and yet it still does not work. I think what needs to be done is to update the driver correctly and then use the patch to correct the firmware. The problem is that I tried restarting, shutting down multiple times, reinstalling the driver (both the one provided by HP for my model and the one on the synaptics website) to no avail.Everytime, I try to run the patch, I only get the error message "A synaptics pointing device driver is required for reflasing. Please install a synaptics driver version 15.1.6.0 or newer".The problem is that it doesn't work EVEN if I install a newer device driver. Any help you can give will be much appreciated. Thank you.

Hey Guys,

i am running a X1C5 on Windows 10 1803.

Yesterday Windows updated my Touchpad Drivers to 19.3.4.210 (same as Lenovo website offers).

Problem is that scrolling on the touchpad is now kind of slow and sometimes it freezes (can't scroll up or down with the touchpad then)

I already tried to increase Vertical/Horizontal Scroll in mouse settings (the most recommended) but it has not effect at all.
Scrolling with an external bluetooth mouse works like always.

Do you guys have any hint for me?

Right now when I use the trackpoint the touchpad is disabled while moving the cursor. The touchpad is also disabled when the trackpoint recalibrates itself. This causes problems because I often let go of the trackpoint to do gestures on the touchpad, and sometimes I then have to wait for the trackpoint to recalibrate until I can do anything. Recalibration can take several seconds so sometimes it's really frustrating.  Is my trackpoint working as it should or am I the only one experiencing recalibration for more than 2 seconds? Is there a known way to enable touchpad and trackpoint at the same time on Windows 10? That would solve my problem since I don't care about the drifting, I just want to be able to use the touchpad while it recalibrates.

Hi whitehouse87,
Welcome to Lenovo Community! And happy to have you again.

As I understand that you are facing issue with Touchpad & Trackpoint buttons are not working in T410.
You have tried almost everything & I don't think so its related to software or drivers. You can check without drivers once whether clicks are working or not. Else its a hardware issue for sure

I hope the above information helped you.

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Hi! I have an E460 laptop, on which I'm dual booting Windows 10 Pro and Manjaro Linux (basically Arch Linux) with Linux kernel 4.5.2. Having the same problem that people discuss in the E460 Keys repeating when pressed for 3 seconds thread, I have been bumping my bios to 1.13, 1.16, and yesterday, to bios 1.17, to see if the problem had been resolved. With the 1.17 bios update, my touchpad and trackpoint stopped working in Linux (In Windows they work fine). They do not even show up in /dev/input, and there is no mention of either of them in dmesg, journalctl, /var/log/Xorg.0.log, or anywhere. The touchpad and stick worked fine in bios 1.13 and 1.16, so I'm thinking there is some regression in 1.17. Is anyone else experiencing this? Can Lenovo confirm whether there is a problem?

Is there any way to solve this problem without having to format the computer?

dont format. use a different comp, download (savepe) its a recovery program. you can run chkdsk from there. it will load its own drivers. savepe is a live xp cd.

You don't elaborate what your problem is ? is it working at all or is acting strange ?
Have you checked the BIOS to see if it's disabled ?
Otherwise, you may just have a bad piece of hardware there, take it to a shop and have them open it up and check.

With attempting to adjust the synaptics using the up to date driver there was real no satisfaction. I deleted it and installed the 15.3.29.0 driver and it works great..

Hope this helps someone...

I have a Synaptics TouchPad v11.0.7 on my HP Pavilion dv6000. I prefer a higher sensitivity on the pad, so I change the pointer options. However, after I restart my computer, the preferences reset to default. I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the driver but the same thing continues. This is getting very irritating. I have no other mouse drivers on my computer and I am at a loss for a solution. I would much appretiate any help.

So I am at the end of my rope with my laptop's touchpad. I can not disable the tap-to-click option, and because of this I am CONSTANTLY clicking on things every time I type or do anything.

Also, the scroll does not work.

I have searched through all of the mouse options and there is not one single option anywhere for tapping or scrolling.

I have updated the driver. I have uninstalled the driver and tried installing an older version of the driver. I can't find anything that will give me these options, no matter which drivers I install.

I am using Windows XP, on a Dell Inspiron 6000. According to the hardware tab, I am using a Synaptics PS/2 Pointing Device.

Please, please, PLEASE help! Please!

I am not a fan of the touchpads on laptops. I have always disabled them and used a notebook mouse instead. While this may make for some difficulty while traveling, I don't inadvertantly select, click or move the cursor while keyboarding.

Hey, can I uninstall the synaptics touchpad in my laptop, and reinstall it again? Synaptics is not running on start-up but it is activated in msconfig, and CCleaner. Is it safe to uninstall and reinstall it again? If I uninstall it, will my touchpad still operate?

Hi, kyzersoze.

You'll be fine. On my Toshiba, I've done it at least a half dozen times for various reasons - none which are important here.

Hi. I'm having a problem with my HP Pavilion dv6000's touchpad. Recently (i.e. Today) it has been giving me an error and shutting down a program called "Synaptics Touchpad Enhancements", which has the adverse effects of slowing down the touchpad's sensitivity, and making the scroll bar on the side of the pad useless. Restarting solves this problem, but it occurs again after perhaps thirty minutes or so. I've already tried redownloading the drivers for it, but it hasn't solved the problem. In addition, upon selecting the mouse via the Control Panel, I'm confronted with this error. This problem has me stumped. Can anyone shed some light on what I could do to solve this?

Hi,The issue you have mentioned and the error you attached clearly state that there is an issue with the Synaptics Touchpad drivers on the system. To resolve the issue, I suggest you uninstall the Synaptics Touchpad drivers completely from the system through Control Panel, Add/Remote programs (Win XP) or Programs and Features (Win Vista). After complete uninstallation, please restart the system. Download the latest drivers from the following weblink and then install the software. This will definitely resolve the issue.http://www.synaptics.com/support/driversHope this information helps.Regards,Vidya

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? I do like the trackpoint so does that mean Dell is my only alternative?

Hi, After dropping my laptop, both touchpad and trackpont have stopped working along with buttons on touchpad. I am wondering if I need to replace keyboard and touchpad or should I have a look at something first before doing this. I've checked Hardware maintenance manual and couldn't find any related information regarding this.

After switching to tablet mode in Windows 10, the touchpad and trackpoint are both disabled. I tried disabling and re-enabling it in the BIOS, no effect. Tried updating to the latest ELAN driver, no luck... in fact, there's no option for enabling / disabling the touchpad in the dialog box, and the ELAN dialog box is just a big blank. Tried uninstalling and reinstalling all Lenovo drivers; no luck. I saw some suggestions that I should disable some sort of Intel sensors in the BIOS, but I couldn't find those settings.  Suggestions?
