Network connection error 0x79, IP not assigned by DHCP. Event ID 1001

Q: Network connection error 0x79, IP not assigned by DHCP. Event ID 1001

Hi all,

I recieved my new notebook clevo170hm yesterday. The laptop was working fine for 2 days, but today it started behaving weirdly when I tried connecting it to the LAN internet and it said "no network access" and "unidentified network". I remembering installing a windows update and after a reboot this error came up, before the update things were good . Here's the event viewer error description:

Code:
Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x0090F5C1E007. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server.
Apart from that I tried connecting to my wifi network, still gave me the same error " unidentified network". Here is the cmd command result for "ipconfig/all"

Code:
C:\>ipconfig/all

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi there.

I've spent a good 10 hrs searching for a fix to my problem - including SevenForums - with no success...

I just purchased a Clevo P170HM with i7-2920XM processor and GTX 485 graphics card. It's an awesome system. I went into event log, and after noticing a few critical and error events I decided to fix the important ones...

I've done this - except for the Error - Event 1001 DHCP Client:

"
Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x0016EB059618. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."

This is the most common of the 1001 events, but others have network address' of 0x001F81000100 and 0x00158315A1C0, all with the same error 0x79.

Many people have thoughts on what's causing it, so here's what I've done:

- Confirmed all my network drivers etc are all up to date
- Followed and completed the full Windows help file on the topic
- This includes pinging myself and the DNS address' to confirm responses
- Completed a release and renewal of the ipconfig command on the DHCP lease.
- Disabled ipv6 in all network adaptors
- Disabled ICS in all network display adaptors (after restart, checking services)
- Disabled/enabled Bonjour to eliminate
- Checked services of DNS auto, DHC auto etc etc
- Turned off Virgin Broadband on one restart to see if the error occured (which... Read more

A:Event Log Event 1001: DHCP Client

I've had a problem with DHCP renew not working properly for months, not sure when it started. I've tried registry settings, new drivers, etc. Nothing has worked. Often I only lose my IP address for a second or less, but of course, this is enough for any open connection to drop.

After DHCP renew fails to the point of my connection being lost, some other DHCP mechanism kicks in which (almost) always works at once.

Right now, however, the problem seems to have gone away.

What I did was uninstall the driver from my network card (Realtek RTL8168D/8111D), again and again, until it was no longer possible to uninstall the remaining driver (Windows default I'm guessing).

Then, after some time, an optional update appeared in Windows Update. It was a network driver that was released by Microsoft on May 14, 2009.

After I installed this driver, DHCP renew has never failed.

I'm sorry if this gives you false hope in solving your issue (which perhaps is different), I just had to provide the one thing that actually worked for me. I know your frustration!

I've just connected a new PC to my ADSL modem and I get the above error in the event log. Also stating
"Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x00etc..... The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server."

I don't appear to have any connection problems apart from the error in the log.

Can anyone suggest a cause and remedy?

Probably this error is pretty much a non-issue and I haven't a clue if the affected W7P machine, even runs Windows Server 2008 R2 (or any windows server for that matter).

Is this 'server' thing, software that is by default installed (and I'm guessing it's only used when the machine networks with another machine, home/work groups)?

As for if and what version the W7P machine even 'runs', the only loosely provided instructions I've found (by clicking the event log's link to information about the error), results in a webpage...

I tried following the article's mentions of checking to see what version of 'server' that is installed, but step 2 seems too poorly written for me to follow what's actually be said...

Hello

I hope you guys can help me, sorry this is very long and clueless. I am not techy at all.

I have 2 PC's connected via ethernet cable to a router provided by my ISP (Orange Livebox). One PC has Windows XP (hubby's) and one has Windows 7 (mine).

Until about 2 weeks ago both PC's were working fine and no internet connection problems. We lost our connection one Friday night along with thousands of other people in our area. It was fixed on Saturday but ever since then my PC has been dropping it's internet connection but my husband's PC is working normally.

My internet connection drops and will only come back on if I unplug the router and leave it off for a minute then plug it back in. Connection then works for a few hours (usually up to 7 or 8 hours) before dropping again.

I get this error in the Event Viewer when it happens:

"Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP server) for the network card with network address xxlong number herexx. the following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on it's own from the network address (DHCP) server."

Have contacted the ISP "support" who sent a new Livebox and ethernet cables. I thought this had worked but lost the connection again the next day. Phoned them again and they say they will test the line and get back to me (they also said this last time). They are useless and I would change ISP but my husband is ... Read more

Alright, started getting the 1001 BugCheck crash with Event 41 Kernel-Power BSOD a few times not long ago, widely spaced out incidents (it will lock up, make a very weird repetitive noise through my stereo speakers and will also get black and white bars across the screen before the blue screen turns up and asks for restart option choice). And Event 4 k57nd60a has been ongoing for as long as I can remember.

Any ideas?

Memory exception but we need to examine the DMP files to find out why.

We do need the DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

If you are overclocking STOP
We could also use some system information, which you can get easily by running msinfo32.
To do that go to start>run>type msinfo32>enter

When it is finished running go to file>save>name it and upload to us here.
You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

Quote:
* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.

To ensure minidumps are enabled:

Quote:
* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart is unchecked.
* Under the Write Debugging Information header select Small memory dump (256 kB) in the dropdown box (the 256kb ... Read more

Hi,

My computer runs for all practical purposes I guess but I can certainly feel that there is good reason for all event log errors while working on my windows 7. For example, the blue screen of death appears once every 3-4 months, or earlier today the computer just started getting really slow (given my 8GB memory this raaarely happens), or "windows explorer" would randomly crash (however, when this does happen it usually happens just once during a session then it restarts and it's fine so it's not preventing me from using my computer it's just...something's wrong and it shouldn't be and I want to fix it! )...I have rows and columns of event log errors such as event ID 1000, event ID 80, 1001, 1002, and much more but since addressing all of them at once will probably invade the entire forum, I prefer to address them perhaps in little bundles so I don't annoy the experts and exploit the resources.
Also, I have a feeling that once I start fixing some of them, many others will disappear automatically. I'm sorry if my post is a bit vague but this is my first time here so please be patient with me and just tell me whatever information you need from me to narrow things down and I will do that.

I have provided a link to a few of my event logs to OneDrive which I appropriately labeled to make it easier to distinguish which one is which.

Thank you so much in advance.

I am looking at the Event Viewer log for a small LAN with a DHCP Server (Windows 2000 Server, svc pack 3)

The event error is 1014, and the DHCP server had quit assigning leases to about half the clients, and hence the generated error messages. (I rebooted the server and it came back up immediately.) My question is this: the errors read:

DHCP Event 1014.
The JET Database call returned the following error : -529. Additonal Debug Information: DeleteCurrentRecordelete.

alternating with:

DHCP Event 1014.
The JET Database call returned the following error : -529. Additonal Debug Information: DhcpJetCommitUpdate.

I can't find an explanation for those specific messages. I CAN find documentation for two other DHCP error messages below (I am NOT getting these messages):

First one:

DHCP Event 1014.
The JET database call returned the following error with a hex data
status of “ff fd ff ff (0xfffffdff=-513)”

(meaning the dhcp.mdb file is full - more hard drive space needs to be allocated)

and second one:

Event ID: 1014
Source: DhcpServer
Description: The Jet database returned the following Error: –510 (or –1022 or –1850)

(meaning that the dhcp.mdb file is corrupted and is usually caused by power failures and bad hard drives, or "curious users who try to open (it) using Microsoft Access.")

I am getting a different error message, however this server DOES have very little space left on C: drive, and I suppose it is always possible there was a short power outage... Read more

Hey guys! I've been scouring the net to see if anyone has a solution to my problem but as of yet, found nothing, and decided to post my problem here.

I recently formatted my PC and reinstalled windows XP Pro SP3 and installed a new graphics card. Now when I play games or am browsing the web, occasionally I will lose connection for 30 seconds to a minute.

In the event viewer I see...

11:43:29
Your computer has automatically configured the IP address for the Network Card with network address 001D7D98D4D0. The IP address being used is 169.254.80.6.

When it happens and I'm on the desktop, the little bubble comes up saying a network cable has been unplugged. Is this a problem with my NIC or the ethernet cable? I'm looking for clues here before I do anything costly...cheers.

Yes, it probably is. Use a different cable with the PC or a different computer with the cable to try to determine which.

On my router, I have DHCP assign IPs to the various computers/devices on my network. For example, a laptop is 192.168.1.103, and my server is 192.168.1.102.

I've tried assigning 192.168.1.101 to my Win7 box, but it keeps coming back with 192.168.1.20. I recently reinstalled Windows7 (for a separate issue), and I'm still getting x.x.x.20.

The router assigns this IP via the NIC's MAC ADDRESS. When I check to see what devices are attatched to my router, my router shows the Win7 PC with the .20 IP.

All other nodes (Game consoles, Linux, Mac, WinXP) seem to accept the IP assigned by the router. Why won't my Win7 box?

I have a Netgear WNDR3700, and the Win7 box is hooked directly to the router.

A:Win7 Won't Take Assigned DHCP IP

I dont understand why you are trying to manually assign an IP using DHCP?

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.

You may be able to get the DMP files without crashing by booting into safe mode (F8) with networking.

To enable us to assist you with your computer's BSOD symptoms, upload the contents of your "\Windows\Minidump" folder.

The procedure:

* Copy the contents of \Windows\Minidump to another (temporary) location somewhere on your machine.
* Zip up the copy.
* Attach the ZIP archive to your post using the "paperclip" (file attachments) button.
*If the files are too large please upload them to a file sharing service like "Rapidshare" and put a link to them in your reply.
To ensure minidumps are enabled:

* Go to Start, in the Search Box type: sysdm.cpl, press Enter.
* Under the Advanced tab, click on the Startup and Recovery Settings... button.
* Ensure that Automatically restart ... Read more

I am having problems configuring a Buffalo AirStation wireless router as a network access point.

My basic problem is that I cannot convince the device to have a DHCP-assigned IP address. Even if, on the main Setup page, I set the 'WAN Connection Type' to 'Automatic Configuration - DHCP' when I go further down the page it is asking for a static IP address.

I have left the static IP address as the default 192.168.11.1. I have set a computer's address as 192.168.11.xxx and subnet mask as 255.255.255.0 and directly wired it to the AirStation and I can connect to it, either by a web browser or the AirStation setup software , which I should not be able to do, as it should not be able to get a DHCP address. (I have turned it off and on many times!)

If I try to connect to it with my computer set to use DHCP for its address (from my local router) I cannot do so, obviously not through the web browser - what address would I use? - but also not through the AirStation setup software. (The AirStation and computer are both connected to the local router in this case of course.)

What am I doing wrong?

My Configuration:

The installation is physically quite large, consisting of several buildings, even though the number of current wired connections is small (10). The distance from the point where the internet connection enters to where the wi-fi connections are needed is much too far to have the access point near the internet connection.
I have a 50 Mbps cable mode... Read more

A:Cannot convince a Buffalo AirStation to have a DHCP-assigned IP address

Hi wattiswitnit, and welcome to TSG.

It sounds like you may be confusing the WAN and LAN settings of the Airstation router. Setting the WAN side to use DHCP means that the WAN port connection is expecting to find a DHCP server at the other end and get an address. This setting has no direct affect on the LAN side of the AirStation router. The LAN side should have its own setting as to whether it should act as a DHCP server and give out IP addresses to devices connected wirelessly and through the LAN port.

If you are trying to use the Airport as a wireless extension of your existing LAN, one of our moderators, JohnWill, has a pretty good write up on how to do so. You can find a recent post of it here: http://forums.techguy.org/7621804-post2.html

Hi. I'm new to the forum and need help. I just got a blue screen claiming that windows was not shutdown properly and the system brought up this screen to protect my pc. The confusing part was that the pc had restarted 30mins after I had shut it down properly. Though during shutdown it had completed a windows update for windows defender. When I checked the event logs I saw this:

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x000000fe (0x0000000000000008, 0x0000000000000006, 0x0000000000000006, 0xfffffa80094c5b20). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 022610-35505-01.

A few hours beforehand I had plugged in my iTouch and updated it, windows automatically updated the ipod's drivers so I am wondering if that's the problem.

Another strange thing is that I noticed my Kaspersky hadn't done a full scan in 12 days when I have it set to run weekly. Windows defender (which is oddly no longer listed on my control panel) hasn't run since the 14th when that is set to run daily as well.

I tried to attach the dump file but it says i don't have permission. Though I'm the admin and only account on this pc.

Help please?

I am running XP Pro sp3 and am having an issue with it crashing with a blue screen error at approximately the same time every day, for about the last two months.

The event viewer records it every time as:

'source: save dump; category: none; event ID: 1001; description: the computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0xb7dbbbf2, 0xab1398e8, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini030310-01.dmp'

When the anti-virus scan (AVG9.0) I have scheduled for 8am every day scans there is no problem, but when the scan scheduled for 10pm runs, it crashes every time. When i disable the scan at 10pm, it doesn't crash. It will also crash when i attempt to run an anti rootkit scan with AVG.

I've scanned my entire PC with Spybot S&D, and it continually finds over 700 temp files that it cannot delete and that i cant find anywhere i check, and all it finds is browser cookies; I've scanned it with Malwarebytes and it finds nothing; every time i try running SDFix, it shuts down and instead creates a dummy file and runs that instead.

I've tried updating all my drivers and every program i have on my PC,but that hasn't fixed anything.

I haven't tried a fresh reinstall of windows yet, as i can't find my XP boot disk and don't know how to make another without already having one.

If anyone needs more information i will be more than happy to post it for them.

Thanks in advance

Download BlueScreenViewNo installation required.Double click on BlueScreenView.exe file to run the program. When scanning is done, go Edit>Select All.Go File>Save Selected Items, and save the report as BSOD.txt.Open BSOD.txt in Notepad, copy all content, and paste it into your next reply.Note: I am not the best at diagnosing memory dumps and BSOD's (occasionally I can), but I do know that using BlueScreenView will make it easier. It will give us an idea of what we're looking at....program incompatibility, drivers issues, malware, etc....or at least point us in the right direction. Also, could you please post your system specs? Brand/model, processor, RAM, etc...Use Speecy if you don't know any of your system's specs (don't worry about it being a beta. It won't crash your computer...it's just not an official public release...they're still working out the bugs and putting the shine on, so to speak. I use it all the time with no problems).

Hi, all!

I have MS Win XP Pro SP3, and during bootup I am receiving the following Event Viewer Log Error and Warning: 1002 and 1003. I have a ZyXEL P-2812HNU-F3 wireless router and a D-Link AirPlus Xtreme G DWL-G132 Wireless USB Adapter(rev.A).

In an attempt to resolve this issue on my own, I have already tried the following ipconfig commands: /showdns, /flushdns, /release and /renew, but unfortunately to no avail.

Sadly it turned out to be somewhat risky to run ipconfig /release and ipconfig /renew, as the Event Viewer Log afterwards showed that the Adobe Flash Player Update Service had trouble running, and therefore sent hourly repeating start and stop messages. And hence of course uninstallation and reinstallation was required to resolve the issue.

I have also ran FSS and Farbar MiniToolBox, of which logs both came back clean. And I will post these logs upon request. I also have Net Adapter Repair All in One.

But now, as to the possible culprit; I suspect malware, however the malware itself has been removed, as I have ran approximately 40 anti-spyware programs, thus eliminating somewhat 300-400 threats totally. So, IMHO my computer is close to spyware-free. I remember having had this particular problem ever since I first started the removal of spyware.

However, I do not have any problems connecting to and browsing the Internet, it is just these error messages that are bothering me. I understand that this is a minor issue, but I wou... Read more

Not enough information in what you gave ffrom the minidumps. So...

How to find and post your Minidump Files:

My Computer > C Drive > Windows Folder > Minidump Folder > Minidump Files.

It is these files that we need (not the folder). Attach to your next post the five most recent dumps. Notice the Manage Attachments button at the bottom when you go to post the next time. You can Zip up to five files per Zip; if you only have one or two you don?t need to zip them, just attach as is. Please do us a favor and don?t Zip each one individually.

How long have you been running your system with this memory?

Hello,
I am trying to setup a new desktop and encountered the BSOD a few times.  Here are the details from Event Viewer
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck.  The bugcheck was: 0x00000001 (0x000000007764bdaa, 0x0000000000000000, 0x000000000000ffff, 0xfffff88009e12b60). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 121316-29047-01.

I tried installing Windows Debugging Tools for Windows 7 but wasn't sure how to analyze the memory.dmp file.  I also tried installing Debug Diagnostic Tool v2 Update 2 but due to permissions issues I was not able to open the memory.dmp file

I think it may be a driver issue?  I tried installing my graphics driver and usb 3.0 drivers manually from dell.  I am not able to reproduce the BSOD.  I tried running Driver Verifier to reproduce it but the computer would not get past the
windows splash screen.  (I had to start in safe mode to reset Driver Verifier)

Below is a link to download my memory.dmp file, any suggestions or advice on what I can try next will be greatly appreciated.  Thank you

After looking through the EventLog, I have noted the following events
- ID 1001
- EventName: BlueScreen
- the reported minidump file is the same for each event (see screenshots)
- but the file in the minidump folder has a timestamp from 2016??

Hardware diagnostics don't report any faults
After suggestions on how to troubleshoot
Thanks

Hello there!

I've been having problems with blue screens for a good time with my Desktop and it seems to happen more when the computer is idle. For example: I've been using my notebook a lot and had left the Desktop without use for days, now when I try to use it gets rebooted when I first turn the PC on. Then if I do not use it for some minutes it reboots again.

Thanks for the help in advance!

I have just done a fresh install from a beta win 7 to retail win 7 and i was downloading AIM and installing Ventrilo, i had a blue screen and a crash because of a critical error, Kernel-Power, Event-ID: 41. Im not sure what caused this, does anyone have an idea?

i have overclocked the i7 920, to 3.4 ghz, i have crossfire 4890 toxic's, 3x 500gb HD's in a stripe raid, 12 gb ram.

i was also having this same error in the beta, and it seems this error has not been fixed, at least for me. this is frustrating cause i cant use my computer to its full potential, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Also, I have been doing a memtest on my 12GB of ram, its gone through 14 passes, over 25 hours, with 0 errors.
the most recent error that was logged was:
The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e (0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000, 0x0000000000000000). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 122809-32421-01.

i have previously added more ram since i thought the DIMM_D1 and DIMM_D2 didn't work. i asked the retailer where i bought the motherboard if they did refurbishment on the board and i looked on ebay for someone with a new motherboard. i figured if this is the last i'll see of this card i'm gonna atleast try to see if the dimm stick work.

i added 1 ram stick in DIMM_D2 and booted up and saw that memory had increased then i added the 2nd and saw that it increased again.

this is probably not serious since it has been working now for over 2 weeks and no problem at all. i was playing some minecraft and was at the movies while the bsod happened so i went into the event logs for system and found event ID 1001 (bugcheck).

i recently (ca. for over 2 weeks ago) de-dusted my computer and added new thermal paste for the cpu. and by this i think i haven't cleaned the under side of the cpu all too well since i think either it was still filthy cause the DIMM slots D1 and D2 didnt work since they work fine now.

although i still want to do a memtest to be sure everything is ok since after the bsod i started minecraft again. usually i have 150+ fps but after the bsod i have around 50ish fps.. which is kinda slow when i'm haulin 219 mods :P

i have included the bsod zip file as in the instruction for posting in this bsod forum.

thx

hey, i've recently been getting BSOD, get it every few hours, and cant seem to be able to find out what it is i was wondering if anyone could help me, this problem started happening when i upgraded my pc from 4gb of ram to 6gb of ram.

i've tryed:
1. Resetting the CMOS
2. Flashing the Bios
3. move the RAM's in diffrent slots

here is what i get from the event viewer: (Event ID 1001)

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x0000001e (0xffffffffc0000005, 0xfffff800028d308d, 0x0000000000000000, 0xffffffffffffffff). A dump was saved in: C:\Windows\MEMORY.DMP. Report Id: 122709-14289-01.
what else can i do ?

A:BSOD then restart Event ID: 1001

Reviewing the event viewer logs is one fast way to learn which device driver is the cause if this is software related. The manufacturer's name even if differing from that of a program or addon device is often the thing to look for and then remove even reinstall the program or driver set.

The external references here can also be considered like disabling the automatic restart when you get a BSOD in order to take notes on the blue screen error information displayed usually very briefly.

Windows Vista, Windows 7 Stop Errors Or Blue Screen Of Death

The "0x0000001e" is common with the NT cored versions of Windows going back to 2000. The memory you added can also be considered a likely problem if a different brand or simply the same while the timings are different or you mixed two different types like standard with performance dimms since this began once you added in the additional dimms.

The first thing now would be removing those two to see if the problem suddenly clears up on it's own. The dimms themselves can be in perfect working order but simply a mismatch for the original memory.

If the problem persists following that you may be looking at a temp problem now being seen or even an... Read more

Okay, I have Windows 7 64bit. I'm trying to install a somewhat-older-but-should-work-game (Knights of the Old Republic 2), as well as some other older games (Star Wars Galaxies.) I keep getting a PCA2 Event 1001 error in my system log.

Now, PCA2 errors are Program Compatibility errors. The problem is, I've marked the executable as "run in Windows XP SP2 mode" and "Run as administrator." This should be enough to fix it; it certainly works for other people. The weird thing is, I've reinstalled Windows recently (had some harddrive problems) and I still get that error! It's driving me up the wall.

Does anyone know a fix for this kind of thing? I have tried running in compatibility mode and disabling DEP/ALSR/etc on the executable. I'm kind of out of ideas.

Thanks!

I am randomly getting this BSOD. Sometimes the PC is only on for around 5 minutes, sometimes it happens after the PC has been on for a few hours or even days. No matter if I'm on the Internet or not, creating documents, virus scanning, or just at idle time. Happens anytime. Here is the BSOD specifics from the Event Viewer Bugcheck:

0x000000c5 (0x05d7c0d4, 0x00000002, 0x00000001, 0x82f2c943)
Event ID - 1001
Qualifiers - 16384
Guid - {ABCE23E7-DE45-4366-8631-84FA6C525952}
Keywords - 0x80000000000000

System specs:
Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit
NVidia nForce 780i SLI S775 Motherboard
Dual NVidia GeForce GTX285 648m 1GB DDR3 (SLI Bridged) Graphics Cards
Dual Western Digital VELOCIRAPTOR 300GB 10,000 rpm Hard Drivres (RAID 0-Stripe Array)
4gb Corsair Dominator XMS2 8500 DDR2 1066 RAM Memory
Intel Core 2 QX9650 3.0GHz QuadCore Processor (no overclocking)
Norton Internet Security 2012

I always keep all software & drivers for everything updated, especially the NVidia drivers & Windows Updates. I kind of suspect the problem may be with the NVidia graphics cards or drivers, not sure tho. Could possibly be the Norton Internet Security. Enclosed is the .zip folder. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Welcome
Your reports are hinting at a driver, lets try to ascertain which one or if it is indeed a driver.
Driver Verifier
I'd suggest that you first backup your data and then make sure you've got access to another computer so you can contact us if problems arise. Then make a System Restore point (so you can restore the system using the Vista/Windows 7 Startup Repair feature).

In Windows 7 you can make a Startup Repair disk by going to Start....All Programs...Maintenance...Create a System Repair Disc - with Windows Vista you'll have to use your installation disk or the "Repair your computer" option at the top of the Safe Mode menu .

Then, here's the procedure:
- Go to Start and type in "verifier" (without the quotes) and press Enter
- Select "Create custom settings (for code developers)" and click "Next"
- Select "Select individual settings from a full list" and click "Next"
- Select everything EXCEPT FOR "Low Resource Simulation" and click "Next"
- Select "Select driver names from a list" and click "Next"
Then select all drivers NOT provided by Microsoft and click "Next"
- Select "Finish" on the next page.

Reboot the system and wait for it to crash to the Blue Screen. Continue to use your system normally, and if you know what causes the crash, do that repeatedly. The objective here is to get the system to crash because Driver Verifier is stressing the dr... Read more

Hi as I mentioned in the title my PC restarts randomly, usually it's infrequent, but today it restarted twice when I clicked Delete an email. This is what is showing in Event VIewer

The computer has rebooted from a bugcheck. The bugcheck was: 0x1000008e (0xc0000005, 0xbd0d20a2, 0xb1720304, 0x00000000). A dump was saved in: C:\WINDOWS\Minidump\Mini092211-01.dmp.

CPU: Intel P4 3.0Ghz
Motherboard: Asus P5GD1 - UAYO
Ram Speed, size and #sticks: 4 Kingston DDR Ram 3200 512MB each
GPU: Nvidia Geforce 7800 GT
PSU (do not leave this out): PC Power and Cooling 700 Watts
OS: Windows XP SP3

Hopefully someone knows exactly what is the problem from those encrypted bugcheck errors.

A:Random PC restarts bugcheck event ID 1001

Your error code is 0x8E and these are almost always caused by hardware (and a good indicator of bad RAM) but sometimes they can be due to faulty drivers.

In your case the Nvidia driver nv4_disp.dll was specifically cited as the cause of your crash.

I suggest doing the following...

1. Go to our Download section and click on Utilities and then download Driver Sweeper 3.1 to your desktop screen and install.

2. Download the latest diver(s) for your video card but don't install them.

3. Uninstall your video card drivers and reboot your PC into Safe Mode. Run Driver Sweeper and remove ONLY the video card drivers. I had someone use it on their chipset drivers! If it doesn't find any video card drivers that is quite okay; just leave all other drivers alone.

4. Reboot and install new video card drivers.

Start troubleshooting your problem by removing Norton Symantec Antivirus and replace it with MSE.
You may go back to Norton after your Windows have stabled.
http://www.microsoft.com/security_essentials/

Then 3 dmp point to NTFS_FILE_SYSTEM (24) so I would recommend you to diagnose your hardrive.
1] Right click Command Prompt → run as admin → chkdsk /f /r
2] Use manufacture hardrive diagnostic tools → Hard Drive Diagnostics Tools and Utilities (Storage) - TACKtech Corp.

Another dmp point to BAD_SYSTEM_CONFIG_INFO (74).
It indicates OS corruption, then you must perform system file checker:
Right click Command Prompt → run as admin → sfc /scannow

Update this driver:
teamviewervpn.sys Thu Dec 13 01:22:09 2007 → TeamViewerVPN Network Adapter

And turn on your Windows Update.
