I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The description for the M900 SFF on the web site talks about a dust filter. I really liked the idea and when my machine arrived I went to show my wife that feature. There was no dust filter! - support said they didn't know anything about a filter but if I could supply the part number they would send me one. Is the web page description wrong? Or does anyone know how to get the dust filter?

Sorry about the first one I posted, I accidently hit the enter key while typing and that was that.

Hey I'm building my father a PC, and was just going to use most of the parts from my old machine and build him a new one. The proc is going to be AMD 2500 barton, of that I am sure. But I am having trouble choosing the MOBO and video card. So here is the parts I was looking at.
MSI Geforce FX 5200 128MB Model FX5200-VTD128 8X VGA. Right now I have a Geforce 3 TI 500 64mb card and was wondering if the FX would be an UP or DOWN grade, the TI 500 has a memory bandwidth of 8gigs I think. I heard that the FX 5200 can have up to 10.4 gig bandwidth.
One of the main reasons I was thinking of this card was, that it comes bundled with full versions of Ghost Recon and Morrowind TES3. Sooo should I keep the card I got and buy a cheaper card for my father, or is the FX worth upgrading to? Also I found the parts at www.newegg.com the video card is $97 and the MOBO(which I will tell about in a sec, is like $66 with a MIR) So if you could suggest a better part for less or a bit more money, that would be fine too.

Ok on to the MOBO. Its a Biostar Motherboard Model# M7NCD PRO.
The MOBO I have now won't work with the new PROC but my question on this is. Is this board an ok MOBO? I will probably OC a little. So I dont want it to crack if I OC it more then 200mghz. Again if you can find a better board for less or a bit more money it would be great.
Another thought. I have 512mb of 210... Read more

I am having trouble with a computer program that I use for my job. It's called SmartMusic. I tell my students "It's SmartMusic, not GeniusMusic..." when we have problems with it. Since their last update, that has been more often than not. StupidMusic is more like it these days. Background on the program: I can open the actual program on my computer to access all parts of the program. I can access some parts of the program through Firefox/IE.All parts of the program are working, both through the program and Firefox/IE, except the Assignment Library. When I try to open the Assignment Library in either the program or Firefox/IE, it stalls and then says it's not connected. I called SmartMusic Tech Support and told them this. They said that it is a problem with my security settings blocking the program. Atm I have 500GB array from two 250GB in raid0 with Vista on it... its using up about 90GB of space (leaving around 375GB free) and I want to shrink the partition to say 100GB (see below). Then I want to reformat the unallocated space (~350GB) to be used by my Windows 7 install on my SSD. I know you can use the Disk Management in device manager to do all this but I want the 350GB free space partition to be at the front of the disk (the fastest) and have the old 100GB Vista partition right at the end (in the slowest part I guess, which its ok cos I will rarely boot into it). Is this possible?

About above... just wondering when I shrink the partition to 100GB even though it is only using 90GB is 10GB a good enough buffer for windows to not spaz out? Or is it even too much can I get away with just 2-3GB buffer... I wont be installing or writing anything new to it. It will be mainly just for reading data and booting.

A:Move partition to the front of the disk (the fastest part)?

Coool thanks they do a trial version should be good enough?

Btw I heard that you need 12.5% free space for the MFT zone is this true? It would be around 13GB for me.

it seems to me that Windows 7 search only works for arguments which occur in the front part of a long filename (less than 100 char's total without path).

Whenever I look for a string in the SAME filename that occurs at the end of the filename, Windows 7 search d?esn't seem to find anything.

Does anybody know, what could cause this? Any solutions?

P.S. I have searched quite a bit for this topic without success, so please bear with me. Any pointers would be greatly appreciated!

With such long filenames, I'll go out on a limb here and assume that they contain spaces? If my guess is correct, then you need to enclose your search qury inside quotes ("").

For example, this is a long filename must be typed as "this is a long filename".

You can learn more about search by reading my tutorial Windows Search - Configure and Use

If you ordered a Dell XPS 15 (9550) without a standard SATA hard or SSD drive:   When you open the case to install a new one, you will find that the basic cable, connector and drive 'bumpers' are missing.  If you order a SSD or hard drive from Dell to upgrade your XPS 15, you will also find that the cable, connector and bumpers are not included!
This is exactly what I discovered when I opened the case of my new XPS 15 to install a 1 Gb SSD drive.  Here is a photo of the empty drive cage.  A diagram with the part numbers is included below:

I Googled this problem and discovered that many XPS 15 owners ran into the same roadblock.  On the Dell Support Forum, owners reported that Dell sales and support offered varying part numbers, which were often not available.  So I contacted Dell Support.  A very helpful CSR confirmed the correct part numbers (shown below with a diagram), but told me it would be two weeks (minimum) before they could be delivered to me.  I offered to pay for Next Day Air.  Nope.  Two weeks.
Frankly, this is incredible.  Dell should include these basic parts when they ship every XPS 15, and the missing parts should be available for immediate shipment to affected customers.  I had to find a vendor on Amazon and pay $80 ($12 from Dell), plus pay for rush shipment.
Here are the part descriptions and numbers, plus a diagram showing where they attach to the drive and motherboard:

Want a new kickass system and choose the following components. Have several questions though...

1. Do I really need a this liquid CPU cooler if I am not going to overclock? I've heard folks say the Factory shipped fan will suffice if you do not overclock.

2. I looked at having Digital-Storm build this for me but something very similar it would have been over 3K and would of had smaller SSD/HDD, and probably no ivy-bridge...but they would have shipped me something burned in and tested, overclocked, with warranty and phone support. I hear they are excellent and also do not bloatware their products. Question is, how difficult will this be to build? I am fairly competent but haven't built anything in over 10 years. Am I going to have to tweek the hell out of SDRAM to get it to work at 2133Mhz? How about the SDD drive? Many BIOS tweeks needed to load Win7?

3. I plan on doing a lot of video editing but wondered if I really need the GeForce-570 or can I get by without it? Removing that and the CPU cooler brings the cost down to $1682...not to shabby for the PC I'll end up with!! Does anyone see any reasons to make changes?

A:New PC Parts list and questions

1. No. Air cooling works just fine. Especially if no OCing will be involved.

2. Building is pretty straight forward. As with most things, a little daunting the first time. But it's not hard by any means.
As for parts, some things are simply personal preference, such as the case. I prefer Cooler Master and have only used them for my last several builds. Quality hardware with nice features. And several models cheaper than your selection. For RAM, unless you have a specific purpose in mind and know that it will be used, 16GB is overkill and a waste of money. The average user doesn't often use over 4GB, but with cost and if you are running a 64bit OS anyway, 8GB is an ideal choice. I haven't used/needed/wanted more than a single drive in ages. But again, if you have a use, then so be it. For video, get the fastest single card solution that fits your budget.

1: In the future, past the newegg link - makes for a far quicker check on what you're wanting us to look at. Info like Return policy, rebate, add-item to cart is not needed.

2 - I'd take the AMD x2 3800 over the 4000. The memory timings on odd-number AMD CPUs causes a slight performance problem. IE: $74 Windsor core at 2.0Ghz is faster.
Or even better and cheaper is the x2 4200 (2.2Ghz) http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103741 or for $15 more, the 2.4Ghz: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16819103749 (which includes a discount 0f $20 for a 500GB HD)

3 - I really don't care much for Patriot brand. Crucial, OCZ, Corsair, G.Skill would be much better choices. Other CAS 2 DDR2 modules: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...Subcategory=147&description=&Ntk=&srchInDesc=

You can chose many other types WITHOUT a mail-in rebate for about the same price! About $100~105.

A:Is this List Parts log normal?

What are you having issues with?  Posting a log and asking if it looks normal, is like going to your doctor and not telling them what your symptoms are, and making them play guessing games.

A:who can help with a part list.

Duncan, fitst of all a question, I don't think I understood correctly... You want to build a new pc and wanty us to help you pick out the parts, right? Second, you can make a pretty good machine with 800 pounds, is that the amount you have to spend, or prefer a bit less? And what's that pic? The computer you have now, or like rough parts description?

Hidy ho everyone, every once in a while I head over to PC Part Picker, and put together a pc idea of mine. Could be a budge build, could be a gaming pc, or could be a server.

This time around I put together a server list, and I would like some feedback on it. Here is a link to the list: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/L2tdyc.

The list does not contain any keyboards, mice, or monitors. I assumed the theoretical person I would be building this for, would have those. And it does not have an OS, as I couldn't find an OS in the list of available operating systems to choose from.

Hello I'm thinking about building my first PC (very slowly)
Im going to stick the pc I have now in a new case and add a new power supply then over time I will get a new mobo processor etc.

So I made a list of items you need to build a PC.
Please tell me if I missed anything (That is kind of the point of this post)

1.Computer Case
4.DVD/CD Drives
5.Ram (Ram sinks optional)
6.A Monitor
8.A OS
9.A Heatsink fan
10.Hard drive
11.Power supply
12.Video card
13.Sound Card
14.Rear exhaust fan
15.A Fan or two inside + Grills (depending on your case)
16.A HDD Fan (optional)
17.wired or wireless ethernet card
18.A Round Ide cable to hook to the hard drive
19.another Ide cable to hook up the DVD/CD Drives
20.Floppy drive + Ide cable (optional)
(I don't understand SATA I did not get that far yet)

21.Fan controller (optional)
22.Lights (optional)

Do I need to buy a heatsink or does that come on the Mobo?
Thank you Please tell me what's missing.

A:Building a PC complete parts list help.

Heatsink and fan come with the processor but you can buy better ones that are sometimes quieter and better for cooling. I'd prefer SATA drives instead of IDE.

Can you pull up a list of the components on my old Pavilion?  I get lost trying to find the exact build.  I looked at "HP Pavilion dv2500 and dv2700 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide," which is helpful; but, I found some inconsistencies, which an HP listing of the original components, would probably resolve most, if not all, of them.  I'd like to look at the possibilities to get it running, with more RAM, maybe a hybrid hard disc, etc.

Hi: Please enter the product number of your notebook in the box at the link below. http://partsurfer.hp.com/search.aspx Hopefully that will generate a parts list for your specific model PC. The product number can be found on the same sticker as the serial number.

Hi guys, I am planning on building myself a machine, and I'm collecting stuff in a cart right now, and I was wondering if I could get your comments about the build - what could be improved/changed, feedback, comments, and anything else. I don't have any experience building a machine but I think so far, I have made a decent selection of stuff.

The machine's primary use will be gaming, and other forms of media, with some programming mixed in there. I am going to post everything that is currently in my cart on newegg.com for you guys to look at. I want to be completely sure that everything will be compatible and work without any conflicts on windows7 x64, and that everything will fit inside of the mid tower case. I'd be upset if I ordered everything to discover that stuff was too big to fit in the case. Anyway, here are all the parts, in no particular order.

motherboard - MSI G31M-F

I'm new to building computers and new to Techspot, so I'm not sure if you can help but, we'll see. I'm planning to build my first computer within the next couple of weeks.

Therefore, if you would please, those of you who are experts, would you please look at my below list of parts and make any recommendations as to changes, additions, etc. I believe all the parts I have chosen are compatible with every other applicable part, but maybe not. I plan to over-clock.

I plan to use the computer primarily for using all the programs contained in the Adobe CS4 Master Suite Collection, and especially for capturing and editing 1080i HDV and a lot of it - many, many hours of it, and I need to do so as quickly as reasonably possible, within my budget, (<$3,500.) Will also use for rendering 3D images and video.

Any and all help, suggestions, etc. will be greatly appreciated. Many Thanks!

Hi there, i have the opportunity for a new pc build, but im kinda worried about the parts i should buy for the better performance overall and at gaming...
First of all, i have a limited budget of U$S 435 (Up to 450 if needed), and i cant use Ebay nor any other auction site. I have my own prices list posted here and i can only use that parts and prices. You can suggest other things anyway, but no prices should be posted if not on the list, since i dont know how much would it cost here (Im from Argentina!)
The only thing that is a must for this build is a DVD RW, the rest is up for you to suggest me.

Well for the CPU, go anything but Celeron.

If this price is right I would say go for it
CPU SEMPRON 3300 BOX S754 62.25U$S

If not, the AMD 64 3200+ looks like the next best choice
(Note, the Athlon is faster then the Sempron, howver with that price difference and the modest performance hit I would say go for the 754 Sempron and then you can aford more RAM and a better graphics card.)

For RAM, buy two of these MEM DDR 512MB 400MHZ KINGSTON 60.54U$S

Hard drive HD 200GB W.DIGITAL 7200 SATAII 122.20U$S

These were just pointers, there is so much that needs to be covered I would rather take it one step at a time.

ok so i have been doin my research and i feel quite overwhlemed, the way i figure it, it would be better to have several lists and weigh the performance to price instead of searching through the endless numbers and benchmarks to find the setup i want out of millions of possibilities, and you all undoubtedly know more than me about building a proper gaming rig
what should i buy? a complete list of all needed parts (excluding OS) would be the most helpful if you wouldn't mind

i have a budget at the moment of about 800-1000 dollars
any help would be greatly appreciated

Hi guys,

I don't know how acceptable forum threads like this are, as i'm very much throwing a bunch of part names out there and expecting you guys to know what they all are. I hope i can get some feedback all the same.

I am looking to build a new system. My aims are a medium-to-high powered gaming PC, with parts all just below the new product curve (so i'm getting really good quality for a cheap price). I live in Sweden, and prices are inflated here, so i don't expect any specific advice regarding prices ect - but certainly i'm looking to make sure i'm not buying anything dodgy or incompatible.

Most of my list links to Newegg - i'm getting the stuff from Swedish retailers, but this is better for readability of specs ect. If it links to a Swedish site, it's because i couldn't find it on Newegg. Here is my list:

Case: Antec Three Hundred ATX
PSU: Antec Basiq BP500U-EC 500W
CPU: Intel Pentium Dual Core E5400 2,7GHz / 2MB / 800MHz Socket 775
RAM: DIMM DDR3 2GB 1333MHZ CL9 (This is Kingston ValueRAM - i couldn't find a good supplier for their' HyperX flavour. Also, i'm not certain that this is exactly the same type as the one i'm actually getting, which can be found here.)

The rest of the parts i'm getting from my old PC. This includes the HDDs, but from what i've read, there's no specific compatibility pr... Read more

A:Building a new system - tentative parts list

Hey there, I have had a quick look and I can't see any problems with the setup that you have mentioned.

You have a nice case and a nice power supply which has easily enough power for the setup that you are going to build. The CPU is fine with the motherboard and the motherboard is fine with the case. The RAM is fine with the motherboard and so is the graphics card.

You could get this case - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produ...cm_re=coolermaster_330-_-11-119-115-_-Product and save some money to buy the next model up CPU or some more RAM.
