Preferred Solution: how i change my shadowing and caching bios?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Have you double checked to make sure you used the correct update for your BIOS? It would be unusual for a BIOS flash to not work correctly unless it failed completely, but it might be worth a shot to try to flash it again with a newly downloaded update.

A:what is bios caching and shadowing and how do you disable it.

Well if its new I'd be checking on warranty - a new machine should not be doing this at all.

"Enable System BIOS Shadowing

Shadowing is the process of copying slower ROM code into underlying RAM memory to improve performance of the ROM routines. The most commonly-shadowed ROM is the system BIOS ROM. Enabling the BIOS ROM shadowing feature will result in a small performance improvement.

Note: It is unusual in my experience for problems to result from using this setting, so if you are having trouble enabling this you may want to troubleshoot your memory or motherboard."

I'm quite familiar with accessing the BIOS menu, however, I'm not quite sure which selection within the BIOS menu I would access in order to disable this feature. I continually get a blue screen telling me that the "physical memory is being dumped", and that changing the BIOS selection will possibly help to fix it. The only time it happens is when I'm playing a game, or using Photoshop and watching a movie on the second monitor.

Hi,

After restarting my system today, I started getting a BSOD in my Vista Home Premium machine every 10-15 minutes without having to do anything on the computer.

The BSOD says the following:
check to make sure any new hardware or software is properly installed. If there is a new installation ask your software or hardware manufacturer for any new updates you might need. If problems continue disable or remove any newly installed hardware or software. Disable BIOS memory options such as caching or shadowing. If you need to use safe mode to remove or disable components restsart your computer press F8 to select advanced startup options and then select safe mode.Click to expand...

The last thing I did on my computer is installing "Adaware anniversary edition", which required a reboot 2 days ago, but I didn't reboot till now. I uninstalled that, but still the same issue. I haven't done anything else as far as I can remember.

I checked the event viewer, but the "error" I find only says that an unexpected shutdown occurred.

I'm now trying system restore in hopes it'll fix the problem, but it probably won't.

Any idea how I can troubleshoot/solve this issue? what kind of information can I post here to make troubleshooting the issue easier for you guys?
Any help is so much appreciated

Win XP
1 GB
60GB Drive

Maintained this Sony laptop just fine for years with Drive Image 7, rewriting the C drive whenever something seemed to start happening.

This time I can barely do this, and the transfer of the archive image to drive C takes way too long.

Ran recovery disks for the first time and that seriously degraded the system to the point that windows take over a minute to open, and get stacked up on eachother and fail.

Copying data files to an external hard drive but the rate of transfer is very bad. I was planning on wiping the hard drive with MaxBlast utility, and then attempting another disk recovery.

No a serious error message to disable bio caching and shadow something.

Is my computer permanently ruined?

What steps should I take?

Thanks a bunch.

(Does this come from something "special?" Like someone targeting my machine on the internet?)

Bios did not provide an option for disabling caching and shadowing (just boot order etc.)

1. There doesn't appear to be an option in BIOS to disable memory caching/shadowing. No advanced options, just Information, Main, Security, Boot and Exit. It's Phoenix SecureCore version 0.3204.

2. Also, my memory usage has been a lot higher since running ToolWiz Care tuneup program. I don't have any restore points from that period to reverse it.

Any help on how to remedy either or both of these issues would be really appreciated,

A:Can't disable memory caching in BIOS etc

Why do you want to disable shadowing? All that does is at boot up, instead of mapping the (slow) BIOS flash RAM of adapters and the mainboard BIOS into the HMA (High Memory Area) at the top of the first 1MB of system RAM, a tiny amount of system RAM is mapped to that location and the flash RAM contents copied to it. That means any access to BIOS code is much much faster, and uses basically no resources - the entire HMA is only 384 kilobytes of memory.

The use of system "Tuneup" utilities is a recognized potential hazard for a system, and can result in either misreported "errors" being supposedly corrected without anything actually being achieved, or some harm being done to important system functions, such as the Registry. Bleeping Computer recommends avoiding the use of such utilities.

Since I don't use them at all, and have no direct knowledge of their operation, I must leave it to more experienced techs here to offer suggestions as to the best way to deal with possible problems when there is no restore available.

Setup: Windows 7 X64 Enterprise, no SP1.
Problems:
1) Tried the registry change to clear the offline files cache on c:\windows\csc and move it to d:\csc

http://www.mydigitallife.info/how-to-relocate-or-move-offline-files-client-side-caching-location-in-windows-7-or-vista/ . This doesn't work. Windows simply ignores the reg key "CacheLocation" and post-reboot just recreates c:\windows\csc after
I went through the steps to remove it earlier. Syntax used in the reg key for CacheLocation is \??\d:\csc (I tried with and without the folder created manually).
2) Offlines files when instructed to sync a child folder of a parent drive mapping attempts to sync the entire parent folder. This is really annoying because the parent folder has over 1TB in it.
\\servername\parent\child is right clicked, I choose "always available offline" and I see it start to sync. In the progress bar I can literally see it pulling data like xls and pst files off of the parent folder.
???
What's puzzling is that others seem to have luck in getting #1 to work so it makes me think I'm screwing up the steps but I've check it and tried it twice now.
Any help would be appreciated.
Pete

A:Offline Files Cache location change not working and caching entire parent directory

The default location of the Offline Folders cache is %systemroot%\csc. If you need to move this cache to another location
on your computer for some reason, follow these steps:
1. Set the following REG_DWORD registry key to a value of 1:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC\Parameters\MigrationParamters

Doing this ensures that all items in the cache are migrated

2. Run the Windows Easy Transfer wizard. Once the data has been scanned, a Customize link is displayed. Click this link and
make sure that Windows Settings is checked for all items displayed in the list.

3. Once you have collected the data, set the following String registry key to specify the new cache location:

HKLM\System\CurrentControlSet\Services\CSC\Parameters\CacheLocation

For example, to move the cache to a folder named CSCCache on your D: drive, specify the following value:

\??\D:\CSCCache

4. Now reboot your computer, run the Easy Transfer wizard again and apply the previously gathered files. Then reboot one more
time when prompted by the wizard.

If you remove the battery on the mothernoard
for a minute or two, the BIOS loses it's
current settings and goes back to the defaults
that will work on any system. You'll have to
let it auto-detect hard drives and everything.

I errantly switched the BIOS setting from Raid-AHCI to IEDI while attempting to allow my system to recognize a newly installed SSD.  The plan was to clone my HDD to the SSD as the boot drive, but it wasn't seen in windows.  Initially, was able to see it in the BIOS settings.  Long story short, I switched from Raid-AHCI to IEDI and have not been able to boot the PC since.  On boot, the pc turns on and the fans for the power supply and NVIDIA cards spin, but there is nothing visual taking place on the monitor. It's as if the devices are getting power, but the motherboard doesn't know they are there.  Tried clearing the CMOS (unplugged, took out CMOS battery, held reset button) and that didn't seem to make a difference.  There is supposed to be a "recovery" jumper on the MB (E15), but the pins seem to be missing on my motherboard, so that's not an option.  I'm pretty sure that if I can get the MB back to Raid-AHCI mode, it should respond for me again.  Unfortunately, without access to the BIOS on boot, I have no idea how to do that.  Any and all suggestions are welcome.  Thanks in advance.

But it has to match with my Pentium dual-core processor, I am assuming. Which is what I have. So please get back to me soon with answers. Thank you very much!

This happened a few days ago. I didn't install anything new and I noticed that it had happened within an hour while the computer was still on. I have tried:

looking at cable (14 out of 15 pins are there on both ends)
rebooting
degrauss
desktop scheme change
refresh rate to 75 from 60

I have a gateway 19" EV910 monitor and am running win2000

any help would be a relief!

Thanks

Mostly when viewing web pages the text has faint shadows to the right of each letter or number. This PC is a 1 year old Gateway, AMD Athlon 64, 3700, 2 GB memory, windows XP media center edition, and with a NVIDIA GeForce 7300 GS PCI Express video card which is connected VGA analog to a 17" LCD monitor. Also I use a KVM switch to share the screen, mouse and keyboard with an older computer. Is there an easy way to fix text shadowing?

Hey guys, ive had this monitor for about a little over a month now.

ViewSonic P95f+ - 279.00 at Newegg.com

At first it was working great - but now...im getting shadowing to the right of the left side of the monitor, and to the right of the mouse and graphics etc. Really big in Games such as Dark Age of Camelot.

any one experience this before? I called them, and they want me to RMA the monitor..sigh - so much money right now to send that thing back to them. Hoping that maybe some one else had this problem before and fixed it?

Thanks guys.

Matt

A:Monitor Shadowing!

Even though it appears that your monitor is defective, make certain to properly troubleshoot your situation. Place a "known good" monitor with your computer and test. If the replacement is fine, then you may have a bad monitor. On the other hand, if you see a similar problem, then suspect your video card or AGP slot. Check the pins in the monitor cable to make certain one is not loose or bent since this can cause a variety of odd colors or other problems to show on your monitor. Last, move your computer a little farther from your monitor and make certain you do not have a TV nearby in order to reduce the magnetic field around your monitor, which can also cause a variety of onscreen oddities.

I have a 21" Dell lcd. I think it used to show font and images clearly. (my personal computer for email, browsing, etc)

I just noticed yesterday that there is a significant shadowing with the font and images. When I type A, I see a typed A, and also see a shadowed A right next to it.. it's like seeing double blurry vision. Images also show a shadow copy.

Using ClearType doesn't change the shadows.

I set the monitor to 800x600 and the native 1200x800 and the shadowing is the same.

I do have a long video cord for it, 30', however the video image was clear for many months using the same cord.

The monitor is analog. Graphics is integrated Intel Extreme Graphics.

My eyes would be so appreciative of any help or ideas!
thank you..

Hi agolfer812

Sorry for the delay in getting a reply to you. Any luck yet finding a solution?

If not: try the settings below for some XP background Services:

1) Remote Procedure Call (RPC) Service (svchost -k rpcss) -- Automatic
2) Event Log Service (services.exe) -- Automatic
3) Volume Shadow Copy Service (vssvc.exe) -- Manual
4) MS Software Shadow Copy Provider Service (dllhost.exe) -- Manual

You can get to the Services console to check on your Services settings (and make changes if necessary) by navigating: Start/Control Panel/Performance and Maintenance (in category view)/Administrative Tools/Services. It has a good help file (available from its Help menu in its toolbar).

See if that helps

How does one go about finding out if someone is shadowing their every move. Our M.I.S. like's using "Remotely Anywhere" to supposedly "dial in". On Remotely Anywhere, you can do it silently, without the user detecting you're in.

I would like a small app to detect if someone else is accessing the computer I'm on.
