I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,My fingerprint reader wont work in windows 10 1803,it says device cannot start (code 10)I have read several forum posts about this and the solution seems to be to roll back to an old driver, then reinstall a new one but the links dont have the older driver listed anymore.could anyone help me with this? Thanks the driver that might work is a 26mb driver

A:t470 fpr

Hello and welcome,

The older versions are still on the server.  Copy the link to the current version and replace the file name with whatever version you're looking for.  They're listed at the bottom of the readme.

I don't encourage this... try it at your own risk... Well, it's not BIOS. A driver is probably safe to fiddle this way.  Still, you're on your own

Been a T owner off and on since the IBM days.   T's just last so back again and picked up a nice refurb T470.   However, unexpectedly I never even considered that the light (bezel or keyboard) was optional.   Thus, I chatted online with a Lenovo rep who said I would have to post to the forum as there is no direct email for comment.   Okay, everyone can now laugh at me...and say, you committed an ID 10 T error and always review ALL specs. No problems with the machine, infact, it appears practically brand new - replaced a i5 Alienware 13 (3yrs and down hill after 1yr).   But, I honestly expected the keyboard to light up - nope, that is an optional feature.   Maybe I was just lucky before, but I thought the light feature was standard for the T series as a business laptop on the go.   Not returning the machine...and I do think the keyboard can be upgraded to the backlit? Thanks Lenovo for making a strong laptop ... been a T series Thinkpad fanboy for too many years to note.   Didn't want everyone to see my hiccup on my part, but, I do miss the Light. Sincerely, NormPierre SD

Hi All, I just turned on my t470 today and after 10 minutes or so, the fan started blowing like crazy (100% fan speed). When I checked the task manager it had about 4% - 6% cpu usage. The air that gets blown out from the side wasn't hot (rather cold actually). The bottom of the laptop wasn't hot either, neither was the surface it was on.I did a BIOS update (was already up to date as far as I know) and a power management update.Problem however still persists. It start immediately when the laptop is switched on (before windows loads). I don't know what to do. We just received our first T470 laptop and it came with Nvme drive THNSF5256GPUK. I'm having a hard time install windows 7 on it. I'm able to create a bootable windows 7 with Usb 3.0 drives but when I go to select hard drive, there is no hard drive listed there. Anyone else had this issue? Were you able to sucessfully install windows 7 on T470? I did install the KB2990941 to the boot.wim and install.wim.Thank you

A:T470 with Windows 7?

Try this, boot up to the Windows Installation USB, and then at the welcome screen  press Shift + F10 and it should open a command window. In the command window type:   diskpartAt the DISKPART> prompt, type:  list disk You should get a display showing the available disks, most likely the SSD will be Disk 0 if the only drive install, but if not note the Disk number of the SSD and replace the x in the command with that number. Type: select disk x     which should return "Disk x is now the selected disk"Type: clean Close the command window and proceed with the installation and see if it will complete normally. Good Luck,

Hi All,I'd like to know if anybody has successfully used any retail 500GB 2.5" SATA SSDs in the t470? My system shipped with a 500GB 7200RPM drive, so I just want to swap it out with a SATA SSD and not backorder the NVMe cable adapter etc. I see from the parts list only 2 that are listed compatible, but they are 3x more expensive than they should be:Samsung MZ-7LN512ASandisk SD8TB8U-512G-1001   (x400) I'm looking at these, which are all affordable: Samsung 860 EVO 500GBKingston A400 or UV500 480GBIntel 545s 512GBWD Blue 500GB. If anybody has any of these models (or others I haven't thought of) running reliably in their T470 I'd love to hear from you. Thanks!

A:SATA SSD for T470?

Any 2.5" wide, 7mm high SSD will work just fine in your T470, and will install with no modifications. The Samsung 860 EVO is one of the fastest SATA SSD's out there, and with a 5-year warranty it is always a good choice.  Cheers,

I am currently the happy owner of a T430. I have 750gb SSD in my HDD bay, 250gb SSD in the M2 bay and a 1.5 TB harddisk in the DVD slot. I need, as you can see, a lot of storage capacity. I would like to by a new laptop - preferably Lenovo T470 (TPs have served me extremely well since its inception). Now, it appears I cannot get so much storage in a new T470. Samsung recently announced 970 EVO NVMe M.2. with 2TB. I was wondering if I can install this in a T470 and how I can possibly add to this. So, my basic question is, how much of what storage can I put in a new T470 as it currently stands.

A:T470 - hopw much SSD can I put into it.

Hi,

I'd expect that 2TB SSD to work as long as it's 2280, PCIe,  and you have the SSD mounting bracket and cable in the T470.  But that's just an educated guess at this point.

The 470 also has a 2242 m.2 SATA slot (the WWAN/SSD slot) that can be used to add capacity.  To my knowledge the largest available is 512GB.

Minor nit: your T430 has an mSATA slot, not m.2.

BTW, your post subject doesn't seem to quite match the content.

Hello, I just ordered a second-hand T470 with a 256gb PCIe SSD and I plan on upgrading to a 500gb or 512gb SSD but trying to decide which way to go. I'm quite a novice regarding this stuff, so please forgive me. I think I read somewhere that due to the way the drive is connected a M.2 PCIe SSD may not be noticeably any better than a 2.5 SSD. Would that be correct?  I would be doing mostly basic small business computing- Excel (nothing complicated), Quickbooks, multiple browsers, Outlook, email, etc. The laptop is a t470, FHD touchscreen, i5-7300, 8gb, 256gb PCIe and I plan on adding and utilizing a WWAN card.I currently have a 3-yr old Samsung 840EVO 2.5 SSD in my T420 that I could possibly just use or could purchase a new Samsung 850EVO/Pro 2.5 SSD or 960EVO/ Pro M.2 PCIe. Any suggestions? Value is a factor. Also, I've read that only certain part numbers of the EM7455 WWAN card will work with the newer T470. Can anyone verify what I need to look for? Thanks for your help

Anyone experience their T470 being hot while suspended? I should note that I'm using Linux, but from reviewing dmesg the laptop is suspended on lid closed. The red light pulsates, but the CPU gets hot. First noticed after pulling it out of my bag, and it was very hot. Kernel dmesg shows it waking up when I open the lid, but obviously not everything is powering down how it should. I haven't tried with Windows yet, but would it make a difference? I thought suspended was suspended. But perhaps I'm wrong.  I'll be able to try with Windows in 2 weeks or so. Thanks.

Hello, I bought a lightly used T470 with 256gb PCIe SSD and just received a "new" 512gb Samsung PM961 PCIe SSD pulled from a new laptop. I've downloaded the recovery media to USB drive and was planning on just doing a fresh install of everything after upgrading the SSD.This is my first time to replace SSD or hard drive so I'm sorry for these basic questions, but:1) If I'm planning on selling the 256gb SSD that is coming out what should I do to wipe it or prepare it for someone else?2) Is there anything I should do to the replacement 512gb SSD after installation to ensure it is clean either before or after re-installing windows?3) Is there anything else I should be aware of or that I should think about since I'm doing this for the first time? I also have a new internal battery (it did not originally have one) and a WWAN card that I'm going to install. Should I do these in stages (SSD and Windows install first, then internal battery, then WWAN card) to make sure all is working properly? Thanks very much

Hi there,I have a 2.5" WD SATA HDD in my T470 (20HES1N400) and I'd like to replace this with an SSD. Is the simplest option just to order a Samsung SATA SSD drive like the 860 EVO and swap them out (https://www.amazon.co.uk/Samsung-MZ-76E1T0B-EU-Solid-State/dp/B078WST5RK/ref=asc_df_B078WST5RK/#)?I've also seen people use an adaptive caddy, different cable, and an NVMe M.2 drive but not sure if this is much better, I do use Lightroom but that's about as hard as I push it. I guess I can make a Windows recovery drive without any issue...?Thanks for any pro tips!Charlie

A:T470 Upgrade HDD to SDD

Hi,

While we're waiting for the pros...

A SATA drive will max out  at around 500MB/sec or so. NVMe will be limited by the 2 PCIe lanes available in the T470 so 1500MB/sec, maybe a bit more.  Whether you'd see much difference in practice,  I can't say.

You can make a recovery drive locally.  Start with "recovery drive" in the Windows taskbar search box.  You could also download a Lenovo image here:  https://support.lenovo.com/sk/sk/solutions/ht103653?LinkTrack=Solr

The T460 uses DDR3L chipset whereas the T470 uses a DDR4 chipset.  These aren't backwards or fowards compatible, so you'll need DDR4 SODIMM memory.

As for storage, both run on the SATA or PCIe interface, so you'll be fine there.
