Preferred Solution: Computer Crashes

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

My computer started crashing when I would try to run Norton AV . Then it started crashing when viewing pictures and videos. Took to repair shop and they could only find some spyware. I told that that everything was backed up so to just refomat. They also tested my ram and said it was fine in the testing but suggested changing it if the problem continued. It started crashing agian soon after getting it home. I replaced my ram and it still crashes. However yesterday I did get a successful virus scan.. everything looked fine with that. It is and Asus bourd, AMD 2200, Win XP with all the current windows updates. Any help would be appreciated.

PS
I had this problem a year ago and it seemed that replaceing a ram stick fixed it. When researching that someone suggested it could be the cache on the mother board. Could that be possible?

A:Computer crashes. Have reformatted and changed ram, still crashes

hey dude i got a thing u can do first of all start the computer in safe mode then run your antivirus program and scan
next if there are any viruses that have been found you can then remove them
once done reboot and try scaning again but in normal mode to see if the problem has been fixed

I don't know whether I have a malware problem, or a hard-drive-in-death-throes problem, or what. But I figured it was best to start here, so if it's not a virus I can go over to the XP forum with that ruled out.

Over the past few months my desktop has been steadily driving me nuts. First it began giving me BSODs at random intervals, anything from a day to a month apart. (Currently, about once every three weeks.) The most common error is 0x0000008E, but I've also had 0x00000019, 0x00000024, 0x1000000A, 0x0000004E (PFN_LIST_CORRUPT), 0x0000007F, 0x0000000A (IRQL_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL), and 0x00000050 (PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA). Usually it crashes at startup, but it has taken as much as twenty minutes. I've tried defragging the hard drive, using a registry cleaner, and replacing Sygate firewall (see below) but nothing appears to have worked.

Then Sygate starting occasionally crashing while I was online. I replaced it with PC Tools free firewall, which hasn't had any problems. (Yet...)

Somewhere in the last several months (hard to say whether it was before or after Sygate and the BSODs, it seems to have been creeping up for a while) Firefox developed an increasing tendency to hang. It reached the point where it was basically non-functional for a good quarter hour after connecting. During that time doing anything - maximising or minimising windows, accessing the start menu - took forever. Then Firefox started crashing - constantly. I worked my way through the official trou... Every time when I try to open My documents, or My computer, control

says, on a blue screen(!) something like this:

damage to your computer.
If this is the first time you have seen this Stop error screen,
restart your computer. If this screen appears again, follow these
steps:
Check to be sure you have adequate disk space. If a driver is

Check with your hardware vendor for any BIOS updates. If you need to
use Safe Mode to remove or disable components, restart your computer,

A:[SOLVED] Can't open My Computer/Documents/Control Panel -computer crashes

Hi Anamarija and welcome to TSF !

Does the problem also happen in safe mode ?

Unplug all your USB devices. Use a PS/2 mouse and keyboard for the time of the troubleshooting.

Go to start => run and type chkdsk c: /R. You'll be prompted to restart the computer. Tell us if it finds any errors on the hard drive. If you couldn't see the scan's results you'll find them in the event viewer under application in the latest winlogon entry (click on the title of the source column to sort them alphabetically).

Did the BSOD or the errors in the eventviewer mention any .exe, .dll or .sys file ?

We'll need the .dmp files that you'll find in c:\windows\minidump, problem is you may not be able to browse your drive to zip and attach them with your computer. Copy them to some floppy or usb drive using the command prompt : start => run => cmd. Type copy c:\windows\minidump\*.dmp x: x being the volume letter that corresponds to your usb or floppy drive. Then with another computer zip them and attach the .zip file to your next post using the manage attachments button.

Double click the errors in the event viewer, click on the third button on the right (this copies the information in the memory) and right-click => paste the complete error message here.

Go to start => run and type devmgmt.msc. See if there are any devices with a red cross, yellow exclamation point or whatever in front of their name. If you find anything related to your webcam then right-click =>... Read more

Svchost.exe Extreme Memory Usage Crashes Computer When Computer Idle
I am currently experiencing a problem that started just a few days ago where the svchost.exe process keeps taking up memory on my computer even when the computer is idle and continues to grow to taking up to 99% of memory before it crashes/freezes the computer and it has to be restarted several times a day to clear the memory back down. However sometimes when I restart the computer within an hour or a couple of hours or sometimes less the memory will get exhausted again.

One special note is that since my Windows 7 OS was preinstalled on my HP computer, I do not have access to the original Windows DVD and the DVD drive on my computer is currently broken and is unable to be used.

I downloaded the TSG SysInfo tool and the FRST tool with the following results.

I was able to download the FRST tool and I have the following results, so hopefully this will help someone to be able to help me with this problem it seems to be getting worse as time goes on eating up memory.

Thanks for your help, time and efforts it is appreciated and here is the TSG SysInfo and the following 2 logs from FRST:

This afternoon, my computer began crashing whenever I try to open one of the more important files, like my computer or the control panel. Everything works correctly on safe mode, and I've tried driver verification, but there's upwards of 200 unregistered drivers, so I'm not entirely sure what to do. Are there any drivers I should look for to move away from the system32 folder? Or is there any other way to solve this?

Also, I haven't installed any new software recently.

Thanks,

I have been having a long running problem with my computer. It started out as a lack of internet access which turned out tI o be a bad virus. I fixed that problem by doing a complete reformat of my system. I thought that that would fix the problem and it did for a bit.

After a week or so I started having BSOD. I went to a computer shop and we went to work on the issue. The BSOD's were showing that there was an error with my sata connection. I replaced the cables. The problem kept happening, so I replaced the motherboard and hard drive with a complete reformat again. Then I continued to have the same issues which included crashes, disappearing icons, weird error messages (x86 errors) and once in a while a BSOD. The BSOD's all say there's still an error with the sata connection.

I then decided to replace the power supply and upgraded to an evga 1300 watt. I replaced my case as well to a bigger one. I even replaced the ram sticks That seemed to fix the problems for a while and the BSOD's became very rare, but after a lot of use the weird error messages became very common. I really can't use the computer any more. I'm typing this on my laptop.

The computer shop I go to say's this is probably a hardware issue. They can't seem to figure it out. I've had it in multiple times. This is a nightmare for a computer owner. I have replaced virtually all the parts and my computer is still utterly unusable. The only program I installed since the last reformat wa... Read more

Holy.....
uh...
Why don't you just buy a new one! WOW.. Sorry..
Well, you SHOULDN'T have played with drivers...That is what's up.
Tried re-formatting AFTER doing those changes?
That computer shop owner though...I don't know what to say.
1) try reformatting to a version that is supported by the bios..(Check if it supports x64)...(fully ready)
2) post every error you get and attempt to find solution to each one. (Getting tired)
3) Can you mention WHEN did certain errors happen? before...after changing Processor and Graphic Card? (Getting worried)
4) Try lots of thing on the web. (hope time)
5) Revert back to the old virtual stuff. (shameful return)
6) take off the good pieces and attempt to use it on another computer or sell it. (Hopeless)

So I have recently bought a Samsung 850 Evo 120 GB ssd drive. My HP computer now has a 1TB hitachi hard drive and a ssd drive. The computer loads from the SSD drive. To try and maintain space, I have tried to download MS Office on the HDD. But when I install office, while in the middle of installing, my computer always crashes. This has happened on all three of my attempts to install office so far. Is there any reason why I should not be able to install office on the HDD or do I have to install it on the SSD?

Thanks in advance for the help!

A:Computer crashes while installing MS Office on a Computer with 2 drive

It's always best to have your programs loaded onto the Windows drive, which in your case is the Samsung SSD.

It would be best if you could supply a screen shot of Disc Management making sure it covers all discs & the information. This will show if you have any other problems.

This tutorial shows how to do a screen shot.

I was using my microsoft office word program, and it all of a sudden went funky, like short circuiting out, then a blue screen popped up saying that the program I was using was bad and causing my computer to crash, so my computer was shutting down before it crashed. Then it shut down and came back up asking if I wanted to go back to a restored or previous thing, something like that, (a restore point), and it said it would probably turn off and on several times through out and could take several minutes, then the computer turned off and back on and the screen would not turn on... I have a dell all in one computer, so I do not have a separate tower from my monitor. What happened? How can I fix this? Any one out there have any ideas? I was not even on the internet at the time.

A:Got a bad program, shutting down computer before computer crashes... help

When you first turn it on, can you see the Dell logo?  If so, does it show the Windows logo after that?
Do you recall details of what the blue screen said?

If you can see the Dell logo, then try these free, bootable diagnostics:  http://www.carrona.org/initdiag.html
You can press F12 to get to the boot menu in order to boot from the CD/DVD drive.

Hello TechForum! ^^

Well, I just registered and that's because I have a problem with my computer and I believe you guys can help me out with this.

This has been happening for quite sometime now. Since I believe I can fix any problem on my own but it seems to me that I've proven myself wrong. Not too long ago my PC has been shutting off by itself. I have a HP Pavilion PC. The big button used to start up my PC blinks forever if I don't unplug the cable out of my panel. Note that the crash does not happen alot.. it just crashes once a day, mostly from being on alot. So I didn't really pay attention to this. Though I knew something may be wrong.

I'm an intense gamer. I love games alot, either it would be console or the computer itself. So you can see that problems might be abit common since I play alot of intense MMORPG games that take up CPU greatly. Before while my PC crashed only once, I was playing a game that took up ALOT of ram. Though I seemed fine. Then I tried out another game, what I noticed was it was crashing as soon as I began playing the game. Which scared me alittle, seeing my PC surrendering like that to a game. So what I though was maybe my PC is just clogged up with dust. I've had this PC for 2 years so far and I haven't cleaned anything or changed anything. The processor, heat sink, cpu, fans, everything is the same when I bought this PC.

So what I did was uncrew the case of my panel, (of course the PC was off and ... Read more

A:Computer crashes by itself

Almost certainly a hardware issue. And I'm smiling to myself as I write this because this fits into the cliche'd response of it probably being your PSU or the RAM. Based on your electrical comments I would guess it is the power supply.

To eliminate the RAM, or at least attempt to, you can download and burn a memtest iso, then boot from that and run it several passes. If it can't make it a pass without freezing (but no memtest errors) I would say there is a 95% chance it is your PSU.

When I attempt to access Juno e-mail my computer crashes.
(I have a Dell with Windows XP.) I receive the error message:
"A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down
to prevent damage to your computer. The problem was caused
by the following file: mrtrate.sys." I have contacted tech support
at Microsoft and Juno. Microsoft says that the problem lies with
Juno's software..Juno says that the problem lies with Microsoft's
software. Question: What is the function of the file "mrtrate.sys?
Does anyone else have this problem?

[email protected]

A:Computer crashes

After searching online it looks like mrtrate.sys could be one of two things, either a Connexant modem driver or part of Quickbooks Pro.

If you don't have Quickbooks Pro I would look for an updated driver for your modem. If you do have Quickbooks Pro, try reinstalling it.

Recently I've had to get rid of a lot of spyware/adware/trojans/malware from my computer. All of it has seemingly come off successfully.

However quite often when I run these scans whether it be my McAfee virus scan or spyware scan (e.g. AVG, Ad-Aware, Spybot etc.) my computer crashes mid-scan without warning and restarts itself. It even goes beyond scans with it crashing. While running 'disk cleanup' the computer crashes and restarts itself.

Can anyone give me any assistance?

Thanks

A:Computer Crashes

Honestly, if you have that many problems with your computer, reformat it.

I have been through this before in different projects and I consider virus software as preventative measures because once a virus latches on it can be deadly.

I would reformat your computer and start with a clean slate, it is the most painless way to recover.

We have XP on a computer that is only used for emails.  So we have open Microsoft Outlook, which there is no problem with, and then I open AOL.  Sometimes it's using the wheel on the mouse that causes the crash, it's definitely opening a video and sometimes it's just clicking on an email, but it's all in AOL.

When the crash happens the screen goes black then there is a blue and white screen that says something about the BIOS.  Then another blue and white screen that says Checking the filing system and then Checking the disc.

It takes a good 5 minutes for the computer to power up again so is very frustrating. Does anyone have any ideas please?

Thanks

I just got a new gaming pc over a month ago and it seems to have a bunch of problems. Ever since the day I got it, I randomly receive the blue screen memory management error. I could be playing games or just on the web and this might happen causing my pc to restart.
All my game also crash to desktop way too much. Programs like steam also crash. I have tried reinstalling steam and my games but It does not work. The crashing is very random. It could happen every 5 min to a couple hours.
The past problems have been happening since day one and I encountered some new problems recently. Me and my dad opened the case while my pc was on to check that all the fans were spinning. I let him put the case cover back on and he kind of pushed it causing the front of my pc to get quickly pushed. I'm wondering if this damaged my hdd as now I notice that my hdd is kind of loud. It doesn't make clicking sounds but I can hear that its on. I used to just hear my loud fans, but now I can hear my hdd in the background. A problem that came up right after this is that sometimes when I am playing a game, the game freezes and makes a buzzing noise from speakrs causing me to have to restart my pc as I can't open task manager.
I have tried updating my video card drivers, reinstalling games, updating bios, using windows memory diafgnostic, updating windows, reconnecting hdd, but nothing works. I also know that I don't have a heat issue as my temps are good with my gpu being at around 60c and cpu between 4... Read more

Recently I felt that my 1gb of ram was a bit sluggish and decided to go purchase 4gb of ram and install it. Now, my computer has troubles starting and goes into Start up Repair where it has trouble finding a problem. Then when i finally get to login as my user everything works fine for a while (2hrs maybe) or until i try to play any of the games i have (guildwars, CS:source and Sims 2) where the screen proceeds to freeze and look a but distorted.

Now i dont know what the problem is and i have tried looking into if it is the ram i recently installed but i havent been able to come to any possible source of the problem.

You are x86? You know that x86 system will only use ~3.3GB of the 4GB?

Do not change the default options on scan resultsSome types of malware will disable MBAM and other security tools. If MBAM will not install, try renaming it.Before saving any of your security programs, rename them first. For example, before you save Malwarebytes', rename it to something like MBblah.exe and then click on Save and save it to your desktop. Same thing after you install it. Before running it, rename the main executable file first

Right-click on the mbam-setup.exe file and change the .exe extension to .bat, .com, .pif, or .scr and then double-click on it to run.

If after installation, MBAM will not run, open the Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware folder in Program Files, right-click on mbam.exe and change the .exe as noted above. Then double-click on it to run..Another work around is by not using the mouse to install it, Just use the arrow keys, tab, and enter keys. Please download Malwarebytes Anti-Malware and save it to your desktop.Make sure you are connected to the Internet.Double-click on mbam-setup.exe to install the application. When the installation begins, follow the prompts and do not make any changes to default settings. When installation has finished, make sure you leave both of these checked:Update Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareLaunch Malwarebytes' Anti-MalwareThen cli... Computer Info: HP Laptop, Windows Vista. (let me know of anything else you may need?)What Happens: Starting the computer up and after logging on it seems to run normally for about a minute.(altough their are a few random popups and antivirus programs) And then it crashes and goes to a blue screen with white writing. However, I can't make any of the words out as it is really blurry (like the letters are being repeated across the word itself)What I Tried: Started in Safe mode (won't crash when i do this) and ran Windows defender it only found 1 virus and i removed it. That was the only cleaner he had on the computer so i tried rebooting in normal mode and the same problem arised. So i tried Copying my MBAM file onto a CD (not sure if i did it right) and put it on the computer in SafeMode but it won't let me install it, it says something along the lines of "MBAM has stopped working... A problem cause the program to stop workng correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."So if anyone hear could walk me through on how i could fix this it would a HUGE help. Thank You.

I run AVG 8.5 (free edition) actually I've used it since I got my lapton last year. A week or so ago it started crashing (computer shut off all by itself, forcing me to manually start it back up) One day I noticed it only crashed when I scanned with AVG. So I uninstalled it and it hasn't crashed since. How can I fix this?

A:Computer crashes when I use AVG

download ESET nod32 instead, do a scan in safe mode with Nod32, and se if your computer has any viruses. it could be that a virus reacts to the virus scan, and turns completely of on impulse. because it doesnt wanna go away.
so get ESET, one of the best virus programs to be sure, it is also the one to be used if your messenger is infected. just scan in safe mode, and it erases every single virus in its database.

Could you give a bit more detail on your PC? Is it a laptop or a desktop?
I would imagine the problem is video card related, but of course that is with no other
info other than the pic.

Could you provide more info on your hardware, operating system, what you were doing (are doing ) when these crashes occur, etc?

For no apparent reason my computer reboots after 5~10 minutes of running. The system will remain stable for days, weeks even. This problem possibly occurs whenever the system reboots. It might be, but not confirmed, that the cpu fan does not come on when it should. The cpu heating up causes me to reboot.. or thats my theory.

I'll try to describe my problem the best I can... I'm using Windows XP and everytime I run a scan on my computer (whether I'm using AdAware or AVG Anti-Spyware or anything else), as soon as it gets around to saying that it's scanning the registry, my computer crashes. I have no idea how to fix this... I've tried other programs and they all do the same thing as soon as they get around to scanning the registry. This has been happening for a while.

Also, I don't know if this is related to my first problem or not, but lately this message pops up everytime I start my computer at the welcome screen.

I hope I gave enough information... if it isn't enough just ask...

Download a program like speedfan or coretemp to monitor your temps.

Hello.
My computer crashes when I play pretty much any game.
The thing is, it didn't crash in the past and I have the SAME hardware as I did then.

It crashed when playing Mass Effect 2, Battlefield Bad Company 2, and Modern Warfare 2.
However it DIDN'T crash when playing Call of Duty: Black Ops.
Modern Warfare 2 has always run practically seamlessly in the past, and it runs far better than Black Ops but still crashes.

The crashes occur when playing for between 5 minutes and 15 minutes. The sound starts to repeat and my monitor loses connection, then my computer restarts.

I've updated my drivers.

I've read of similar issues with other people that also have a 9400 GT, but they seem to have always had this problem, my problem is a recent one. I've had this card for over a year.

Thanks!

Hi All
I am having a problem over the last few days. When I load blank CDs or DVDs into my DVD writer the computer crashes. If I leave the disc in the drive I can copy to it. Windows Media Player does not recognise the media as blank and ask me to load blank CD or DVD.
At the blue screen Im told that windows has shut down to prevent damage etc, etc I also get the following tech info
0x0000008e(0x0000005,0x806ee753,0xf02ccd28,0x0000000). The report gets sent to Microsoft website but there is no help here, Can any help?

I think you should at least update your DVD-rom drivers. If it won't help try to repair your burning software. Hope it will help.

Just took my computer in for repairs (they said the operating system needed some fixes??) and now I get all new problems. Every day I get the dreaded blue screen. It says Error is.. Win32k.sys. Base at BF800000 Date 41107F79. Somewhere on there is also said 0x0000008E. I tried to write it so fast before the time was up. Does anyone have any idea what could be triggering this and where do I start??? The computer place said it could be an issue with the hotkeys on my keyboard and dont use them. Didnt work..still did it. sometimes i get the Blue screen on bootup and like today it was 3 hours after bootup. And im never doing the same thing when it happens. So confused....any ideas?? Thanks..SHARI
