How do I disable links in Windoze 7 RTF editors?

Q: How do I disable links in Windoze 7 RTF editors?

First, inevitable details:

1) I live in Taiwan and bought an English language version of Windoze 7 (home premium) while here. I have lived here for six years, so I have never seen another English language copy of 7 and don't know the behaviour of versions sold in other countries.

2) Yes, my software is registered and legal.

3) Yes, I used the search on this site before I posted this, as well as google and other searches.

The problem:

In other Windoze versions (XP, Vista, 2000, et al), if I type or paste an URL into a RTF editor, it will be treated as plain text. But Windoze 7 turns it into an active link, and if I click it with the mouse to edit it, it will open a page in my browser. If I use the keyboard and hit Enter or Space to try and break up the links, it opens the link in my browser. The links can no longer be edited, only deleted entirely.

How do I stop Windoze 7 from doing this? I want to disable this bug, but there is no mention of it in any menu or documentation. Does this happen in other people's copies or versions (e.g. enterprise) of Windoze 7?

At first I thought it was limited to Write/Wordpad, but it also happens in every other freeware RTF editor I've tried - QJot, AbiWord, RoughDraft, CopyWriter and a few others. And this annoying behaviour does not happen in other Windoze OSes, only in 7. I tested the same exact version of those same freeware RTF editors in other OSes without any problems.

No, a plain text editor is not a solution. I need the ability to copy and paste mixed language text from webpages, mixed English and Chinese names and address (and sometimes even other non-Latin languages). A plain text editor is useless because it can only handle one language or font at a time.

No, I don't want to open something as large as Open Office or Softmaker Office, and I neither have nor want the crapware that is Microsloth Office or Microsloth Worse. I'm doing quick and dirty editing and printing of addresses, names and websites for day to day living in Taiwan. Small editors like Wordpad, QJot and others are exactly what I need.

If anyone knows how to kill off that behaviour, I would appreciate hearing it.

Criticism of my manner of writing is not welcome.

Preferred Solution: How do I disable links in Windoze 7 RTF editors?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there any way that Firefox can disable linked mailto: items on the web?

Every once in a while I click a link and it's someone's email address. Because I don't have Outlook and don't care to have Outlook, I then get a massive string of IE popup windows telling me I suck and it can't open email.

I think it only stops opening windows because it hits it's max. I shudder to think what would happen if it wasn't maxed out.

I checked in IE and in Firefox but don't see an option to NOT open a default mail program when you click a mailto: so I just want to not have them clickable. If that's what I can do.

Thanks

Hello,

I have been trying to install Windoze XP on my new 200 Gb SATA disk for one week, but i can't manage.
I insert the OS installation CD-Rom. I press F6. I insert the floppy. I choose the first option in order to specifiy my disk. Then i press Enter to continue.
Then I press Enter to setup on my partition already formatted in NTFS.

I press F8, as I don't have another choice to accept to install Windows XP as i bought it....
Then come this screen:

"To install Windoze XP on the following on the partition you selected, setup must write some startup files to the follwing disk"...
To continue installing windows XP, return to the partition selection screen and create a windows XP compatible partition on tje disk above..." :giddy:

That means, "Same player, shoot again"

So, as I asked already on a forum speaking my mother tongue and did not get any answer, maybe you will be able to help me...

Thank you.

A:Installing Windoze XP on 200 Gb SATA

unless you have 3rd party scsi or raid driver don't insert a floppy disk and press f6! just boot from the CD ROM via bios, and windows should run correctly. and after the initial setup, when your system reboots, go into the bios and set your system to boot from the HDD or you will be starting all over.

Hi All,
I have a shared printer question, as follows...

On server BIGSERVER I have a printer called FRED shared as SHAREPTRNAME. The 'printer' defined on BIGSERVER is really not a physical printer, but a definition, running a printer driver, that receives printed output, that outputs the print job to a file. Thus there is no IP address, or physical port of any kind.

On another computer, same network, I add a new printer, select Network, find the server BIGSERVER, find the printer SHAREPTRNAME, and finish the definition process.

So far, so good. I can print documents to that printer, etc.

When I added the new printer, it was called "SHAREPTRNAME on BIGSERVER". There is no way that I can find, to change that name. I need to change that name, to support a database application, that will not allow spaces, lowercase letters or more than 20 characters when it references a windows printer. I know, I know...but I've heard it all before, so please don't beat me up for the limitations of an application I didn't write

I tried a number of work-arounds, with no success.

I can't create a local port to point to the physical 'printer' on BIGSERVER, cause there is no physical printer.

I tried defining a share name on the printer definition of the "SHAREPTRNAME on BIGSERVER" printer, then tried defining another printer that would point to that share name...no good .

I tried using NET USE as follows...

An online friend has the lsass.exe error and I believe it is a virus. In the old days I hade a nice magnet that did the job but not sure about doing that these days . Basicly my question is this, can I make a general boot disk with like Fdisk and other tools on it to send to him or does said disk have to be made by the same system? Will my windows Bart PE disk work for him? We both have windoze Xp pro. All he needs is to format and partition it then load windows. He does not have a floppy drive just cd-rom and dvd-rom drive. His system is very new, dual core intel 3.4 and the drive is a 500gb WD. I thought he could access tools when booting to his windows disk and he cannot or is doing something wrong. Hi Good Peoples,

Hoping someone can help me please. All was well until recently when I started having problems opening up Microsoft Office data files.

If I launch the Word or Excel program and then open the document from within the application menu, the data files open normally.

However, if I click on either an Office document data file shortcut, or even the data file itself, it takes about a minutes to open, rather than a second or two.

I thought it may be the Office Program itself, so I installed an upgrade from Office 2002 to Office 2007, but it didn't fix the problem.

Running Windoze XP with all the latest updates.

Anyone have any ideas please?

I had a dual boot system.

I needed more hard drive space, so, from within Windoze, I formated my Linux Partition to be an NTFS partition.

At the time however, I forgot that Windoze used the Linux bootloader (GRUB) also.

What do I have to do to get the native Windoze bootloader back again?

(In other words, I went from a dual boot system to a Windoze only system, and I need Windoze to be able to start on its own, without GRUB's help)
Thanks,

Hi,

Up until now I've used Windoze media encoder 9 using its analog settings to encode lecture tapes (S-Video, stereo L+R) using an Osprey 220 capture card. The advantage in doing it this way was that I could feed the audio from the DV player thru a mixer/amp and adjust the line level, pan etc. Then I could adjust the video, chroma levels using the video properties. So far so good.

Now I have a firewire card. Although encoder recognizes the machine and I can set EDL's, I find that I can no longer adjust the capture properties. Is there a way of getting around this other than using a video edit program? Seems ridiculous that basic capture settings can't be obtained in firewire mode.

Also when I say that that encoder recognises the machine, it will recognise a Panasonic DV10000. It won't for some reason recognise ANY Sony machine. I've tried the DSR-45, DSR 1500, and a Sony digital camera. Nothing! Encoder says that a Sony device is there but will not allow machine control. And yes, I've gone thru the DSR manuals. Is there a fix?

Have tried just about everything recommended to improve performance and am at my wits end. Does anybody have good advice regarding reg editors? Don't want to start monkeying with the registry and really mess things up! I ran a scan with RegCure and it posted over 1200 errors but am not about to buy a product I am unsure of. Anything free out there?

A:Registry Editors

Most people here, including me, don't recommend using registry cleaners. They can delete things that can cripple your computer. I've done it to mine a few times. But, if you feel you need to do something there is THIS SITE which is Micro$oft's One Care that will go through your registry. Since it is their program, XP, it might be OK. But I'm not endorsing it. It too might do something wrong. I've used it a couple of times and so far nothing bad has happened. You can also click on Start, Run and do a sfc /scannow it will run a check on your system files and repair or replace them. You must have your XP disc in and sit there while it's running, because it won't always find the file it's looking for and you need to click on the "retry" button. It takes about 40 to 45 minutes on my computer...I'm sure someone else will come along with more advice soon and you can ponder all of it and decide what to do, or not do.Good Luck...

In "My Music" I have two sorts of files. Those I have downloaded from KaZaAlite, and those I have got off CD's using XP Media Player.

All the audio editors I have tried (including one that was suggested on this forum) either won't save the results as an mp3 (illegal?) or won't open certain files.

I do belly dancing and the tracks I have are maybe 15min long but the dance is 3min in the middle of the song! I was successful in chopping a song I downloaded off Kazaa (before Power Audio Editor run out of free time) but with the new audio editors I have tried, they will not open songs I have got from CD (Copywrite??).

Since I am only using the demo versions I wonderd if the purchased software would do the trick, but ranging in price from $5 - $345 I am unwilling to pay the price until I know more (and you can double those US dollars to equal NZ dollars!).

Hi.
Don't use "cleaners".By using cleaners you earn 000.1 in speed and sometimes they make the things worse.
Windows 7 is not xp,windows 7 is smart is cleaning up and tidy up up itself without the need of extra software.
Though if you like to "clean" your system use the windows 7 friendly free CCleaner.

I am looking for a simple WYSIWYG HTML editor to edit simple pages, that will work in Windows 7

Any suggestions?

I am not building web sites or applications .. I simply have a few local visual web pages that I run off a local drive ( kindda like portal pages). Dirt simple. Modest needs!

For years, I have been using Microsoft Frontpage 2000 - it was perfect. I still ahve the CD, but t would like not work anymore with WIndows 7 / Office 2003..and I dont want to start corrupting files.

So I am looking for a replacement . either free or up to $50.

I tried WebPlus, but gave up after 30 minutes of convoluted back and forth licencring and activation nonesene... on the free version!!. It insisted on a prodcut key, not supplied, and there were no retuen email address - and no one to write to and no way to contact them, with going thru dozens of FAQ pages. GOODBYE. Thats 30 minutes I will never get back.

I downloaded Komposer, but there was no way to isntall it. No setpup file; onlynested zip files. GOODBYE.

I downlaoded NVU, same as Komposer. Hopeless.

I really did not want ro go back to NOTEPAD, but , gotta say, its looking really really really good right now! In fact I will be changing my IE9 default web editor to NOTEPAD for now ( if it takes it)

Was hoping there we would at leat ONE product out there, that worked on Windows 7, that could easily be downaloded and installed, in less than two hours,, and had a WYSIWYG editor, to edit a local web page. I know thats... Read more

What is the best registry editor, if there is one? I have been using Uniblue and ran it and corrected my registry. I then downloaded a trial copy of Registry Cure and ran it, It says I have over 600 errors in my registry. Anyway my subscription to Uniblue has expired, what should I get.

Thanks,
Phil

A:[SOLVED] Registry Editors

Hi Phil. . .

I would advise that you do not use any of these products. They are an absolute waste of money and they could end up corrupting your registry. Then you'll be back to see me when the BSOD epidemic begins.

The items it is flagging as "errors" are not errors at all - just entires in the registry that currently have no association to them. They hurt nothing, take up very little space and cause non-measurable time loss during boot-up when the registry is assembled from files found on your hard drive. We are talking about a fraction of a second.

600 items out of the Vista NT Registry which can easily contain 500,000 + entries represents just 0.12% of total.

To give you an example of how some of these "errors" occur - assume that you no longer have use for Microsoft Word and un-install it. A registry scanner/cleaner would then pick up anything associated with MS Word and its files, whose file extensions are .doc (≤ Word 2003) or .docx (Word 2007) files. The un-installed Word file extension relations found in the registry would still exist, but have no program to open should a doc/x file be clicked on.

I suggest that you leave the registry alone. There may be a time in the future after the installation/un-installation of hundreds of programs where this becomes necessary, but then should only be done so under the instructions of someone familiar with registry cleaners. Most important - back up the registry before using a re... Read more
