Can't install/uninstall Adguard desktop

Q: Can't install/uninstall Adguard desktop

I had uninstalled Adguard awhile back and tried to reinstall today. The installation went very quick, too quick then I couldn't find it anywhere, not showing up in start menu, nothing on the taskbar, and I can't find a Adguard folder in programs folder. Adguard is listed in App Falcon, Geek uninstaller and Wise Program uninstaller. When using these the Adguard uninstaller never starts, it goes straight to the scan for leftover files, I remove them and Adguard is no longer listed in the apps list of the uninstaller. When I try to reinstall, the setup starts and goes very fast, then nothing, no gui, not listed on start menu and no folder? I tried the Adguard Uninstall Utility and the gui never starts but task manager shows the utility running with 20% cpu but it never does anything, will stay at 20% and never show the gui.Any help would be appreciated, thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running Adguard Desktop with default English Filter only.

What all filters you use? And your experience & probs with the filters you use.

What filters you suggest for adblocking only with minimum probs? Or default English filter is sufficient?

A:Adguard Desktop Filters Suggestions

I use just the English filter and never see ads so no other adblocking filter. Though i added adblock warning removal list and anti-adblock killer to stop as many sites as possible that block adblockers and show msg.

I have Vista Home Premium 32 bit.
I was having problems installing a program (Berlitz German Premier) where the install would just disappear halfway thru the process. A program would not appear under my programs list but when I went to Uninstall an icon for uninstall of the Berlitz software appears for each time I tried to install it. However I get the following error messages (see attached document with screen captures) when I tried to delete it the traditional way.
When I use Windows Install Clean Up utility, the program is nowhere to be found on the list; thus I can't use that program.
Any suggestions for how to get this program removed?
Thanks!

A:Program wont uninstall it with Uninstall or Install Cleanup Utility

Is this a windows XP program or one for vista. It looks like a compatibility problem. Check with vendor to see if they have a version for vista. Some older programs will not work with vista and never will. There is an option to run in capatibility mode with vista but does not always work.

I installed Arduino software, part of which included installing a number of drivers. I uninstalled the software using the internal software uninstall feature. Apparently it removed the drivers, but for some reason they still show up in the Windows install/uninstall list. I try to uninstall them using the Windows uninstaller, but I get an error stating that the drivers are not there (at that address). The problem is, I cannot re-install the drivers, because for some reason they still show as being installed by the Windows installer and the software refuses to re-install.

So, how do I remove a file name from the install/uninstall list on Windows 10? A file name for a file that is already deleted?

Thanks!

Max

A:Cannot Uninstall Drivers from Install/Uninstall List - Windows 10

Hi, Geek uninstaller (free) offers a range of removal options if you right click an entry.

However, you may have parts of the program left over.

1. Does the program's site offer a manual uninstaller or uninstall instruction?
2. Check the various folders that may have been created when you installed it for leftovers.
(Try Locate32 (free) - let it index all your files then you can quickly check for anything related to the name of your program on a find-as -you-type basis).
If you find any exe's left over, then use
Revo (free)
to force uninstall these.

Your problem will be knowing if anything is left over that you don't want.

Finally you can search the registry.
Try Regscanner (free) as this lists all found unlike Regedit which is 1 by 1.

Create a system restore point or back up your registry and delete remnants.

Good luck!

Hi there,
I found my PC still running this morning - it had not shut down last night. This sometimes seems to happen during updates but that's not the problem, just some background.

I went to uninstall a small program I use before I install a new version of it. The uninstall message was on screen for about 10 mins when it usually takes only 1. I cancelled it and the Cancel message also refused to go away. So I killed that and rebooted.

Then seeing the app still in my prog list I just went for a new install and got the INSTALLING Message for ages so killed that too.

Now when I try to uninstall I get this:

Any suggestions how I can remove the old prog or at least tell W10 I am not installing right now and to unlock the process?
thanks, Mike.

Hey,

I bought a copy of XIII, a budget-box type thing, distributed by a company called 'MAD.' The game's on DVD Rom. When I install it, it gets about a half-way through, but then goes quiet and a message pops up:

'Delete all configuration and saved game files? Answering YES will delete the XIII install folder and all its contents)'

That looks sort-of like an uninstall message t'me. And whether I click yes or no, the embryonic game files in their Ubisoft folder all dissapear. I'd be grateful for any help in remedying this!

(I stuck this emssage here as well as the gaming forum 'cos I wasn't sure if it was the game, or maybe some winXP thing. Thanks again!)

Shearwater,

Did you install XIII in its own new folder? Or in a folder containing other games?

If it installs in a new folder of its own name, it should complete the installation, unless, like many Windows programs it requires you to shutdown all Windows applications - if it does, then shut them down before you install.

The catch22 with running other Windows applications is that there might be a conflict with what the new program is trying to install in terms of libraries - i.e. dll files which are loaded in memory and in use.

I have a laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit and it can not install or uninstall programs in any normal way. When you try to do so, it comes up with this error "The System Administrator has set policies to prevent this installation." Now, I have googled it and most posts refer me to use the Local Security Policy editor/snap-in which is NOT available in Windows 7 Home Prem. So, most say you have to edit the registry to enable this support, but I have not ran across a reg edit that will help me with this specific issue. My account is an administrative account and I have even gone as far as creating a new account with admin privledges and still get the same error. I even got that error in the middle of creating the new account, too. So, is there anyone out there who might know what registry entry I need to add/modify to get passed this issue? I will add that you CAN install programs so long as you right click the installer and run it as administrator. Thanks for your time.

A:Can't Install/Uninstall programs - policies to prevent Install

Welcome to the Seven Forums, peauxrouge.

If you are unable to install/uninstall any programs then it means that your computer is as it was when you purchased it. Are you the Administrator or not?

Try and log-in as the Administrator and then run gpedit.msc to change the Group Policy to allow installation/unistallation of programs. I am certain that one can run gpedit.msc from W 7 Pro upwards but I am not sure if it is possible in W 7 Home Premium.

If not then either ask the vendor about how to change the Group Policy or just clean install W 7 Home Premium from scratch once again.

When I boot the device driver for the ethernet won't install properly. I have tried to update the driver and get error codes. I uninstalled it, found the latest version on the Atheros webpage and reinstalled. Still it won't work.

The problem started when I uninstalled Trend Micro's security, which by the way, won't uninstall. I had a windows teck work on my computer online and he tried several times to uninstall TM and went into the registry to remove files.

After that my Atheros driver doesn't work. When I open Windows Media Player it tries to connect to the net and can't sending an error window which stops the media player. I can't write CD's without skips and drags because of this issue otherwise I wouldn't care about the ethernet drivers.

Any solutions that will work? I'm a novice plus not expert.

A:Atheros ethernet driver won't install even after uninstall/install

You should use the Trend Micro Uninstaller : Uninstalling Trend Micro program using the Diagnostic Toolkit

After you run that, try to install the driver again. If no go, then run a sfc/scannow to check for and possibly repair any system files either you or the Tech may have messed up. Here's a link to a tutorial on how to do that if you haven't before, just click on the link : SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Why by default Adguard filters only ads i.e no privacy, etc...?
Can privacy, etc... stuffs blocking break sites, etc...?

A:Adguard & everything about it

Well not really at all, likely because Adguard among others maintains the overall purpose to block advertisement meanwhile other filters will be on user preferences to avoid any troubles. One of the concrete example will be the filters of social networking sites which excluded by default because of possible issues for some users.

Important: this is an alpha version, it is not intended for general use.
If you are not ready for bugs, errors and crashes of the program, better wait for the public beta.

What's new in this version:
1. A brand new program design.
2. New Filter editor - more convenient and easier to understand than the old one.
3. New Filtering log - more user-friendly.
4. Many "internal changes", we have rewritten the filtering engine itself.

What is not yet ready?
1. Stealth Mode is not working in this Alpha.
2. We are using the old versions of network drivers (the same as in the current Adguard release version).
3. We haven't completed the work on "Filtered apps". Soon it will be possible to add "Modern" applications and extend the list of filtered apps.
4. We haven't completed the work on "Filter editor". Soon it will be possible to create rules in the visual editor.
5. The older version of "Adguard Assistant" is being used.
6. We haven't completed the work on "Filtering log". In future it will be possible to create rules right from the Log.
7. At the moment there are only two localizations - English and Russian.
8. The settings migration from fifth version is not ready.

Important: During installation Adguard 6 will remove all current settings of the version 5.

Known issues
1. Memory leaks. Not all the memory can be freed up after intensive use of UI.
2. Unstable run of Filter editor. Filters can get ou... Read more

Now that AdGuard has released an android HTTPS scanner which requires you to trust their certificate then do you honestly trust AdGuard? I mean they are Russian so it's like trusting the USA or the Chinese with your information.

A:Do you trust AdGuard?

One can't be 100% sure what is fully trusting or not, I trust Adguard enough to use, because there's not enough proof not to.

An example, like (Google) or whatnot enjoys your privacy or tracks you unless settings changed, but I do think other American founded search engine (Duck Duck Go) respects it.

I think the truth comes out, and any shady behaviour gets caught most of the time. So it depends if you want to use it or not.

I really use WiseCare often and its my favorite clean tool.... I choose to accept its Chinese origins, until warned not to.

Hi everyone !

As you know I am curious but absolutely not an expert . I ask here because I 'd like to have an independent opinion .

So I ask this not to insinuate doubts about adguard reliability but just to understand

Adguard pro for iOS ( it's written in the app ) establish a fake vpn to let you use adguard DNS ( you can add them manually , but in this way you just click a button, and furthermore they work even on 3G without enabling adguard mobile app to use 3G) ( if you want I can post some screenshots)

They say it's just a fake vpn and nothing pass through ther servers / remote serves

I tried some tests on ipleaks.net and dnsleaks.com

In fact It is not a real vpn because they show my ip, my location etc

But under isp they show many opendns,LLC and YANDEX,LLC based in Russia / USA / Netherlands

(I know that, for example ,if I used 8.8.8.8 probably I would see Google in those tests )

Know I ask you: why it appears opendns and who is YANDEX ???
And would you feel comfortable to pass for all those servers ?

Looking forward to hearing from you

A long time ago we added a Web of Trust extension (to monitor websites reputation) to Adguard for Windows and Adguard for Mac. Today we found out that Web of Trust is suspected of selling the browsing history of millions of users to third-parties.

We decided to make an official statement regarding this to assure everyone that extension in Adguard has nothing to do with it.

First of all, we need to say that we do have a Web of Trust extension in Adguard, but it's not that original WoT add-on. It was developed by us, using the data on websites reputation by Web of Trust.
And it's important to mention that we bought this data for money, and have never traded privacy of our users.

Today's news are very disappointing for us, the original Web of Trust extension was removed from addons.mozilla.org and next week we will decide what shall we do with our Web of Trust extension in Adguard.Click to expand...

So basically the question was supposed to be: "Not to be racist or anything but is it safe to use Adguard for either the AdBlocking or the new beta AdGuard Beta DNS capability if the new Russian laws dictate that all logs need to be kept for at least 1 year?" and AdGuard is based in Russia?

Mind you I have one 3 user lifetime lic and 3 one user each lifetime lic for Adguard and am currently beta testing Adguard DNS.

This post is intended for more technically advanced users and meant to provide a detailed description on the HTTPS filtering and why it is essential in Adguard. The thing is, HTTPS is a very serious and sensitive subject, and we want to be as open here as possible.

What is HTTPS?
HTTPS (HyperText Transfer Protocol Secure) is an extension of the HTTP protocol that supports encryption to increase security. This protocol is used to securely transmit valuable information like personal data, credit card details, etc.

Using HTTPS is strictly advantageous, since encrypted traffic is protected from ?eavesdropping? by third parties, and we can only welcome this. HTTPS spread has been on the rise in the recent years, mostly because it is being encouraged by Google, and also due to the emergence of a free certification center Let?s Encrypt.

The diagram below describes the difference between plain HTTP protocol and secure HTTPS protocol.Click to expand...

additional article : HTTPS filtering: known issues | Adguard Knowledgebase

A:Everything about HTTPS filtering in Adguard

The part of the article explaining how HTTPS Filtering works in Adguard:

How does HTTPS filtering work?

If it were easy, HTTPS wouldn?t be that secure. Upon browser?s attempt to connect to a server, Adguard establishes two secure connections: one with the browser (or another app), and the other with the server. It is crucial that browser trusts Adguard and the connections created by it. For this purpose, Adguard generates a special (and unique) root certificate and installs it into the system and, when it is required, into some browsers too (e.g. Firefox). Thus, Adguard can see what is happening inside of the secure connection and do its job - block ads and tracking.
For better understanding we depicted this process:

Does my traffic remain encrypted and secure?

Of course! Your connection with a remote server remains encrypted and secure. Adguard, just as your browser, checks the server?s certificate before deciding whether to filter it or not.
Nevertheless, HTTPS filtering has its drawbacks. The most important of them is the fact that it hides from the browser the real certificate that the website uses. Instead, the browser sees the certificate issued by Adguard.
Because of this, we undertake several additional measures to improve the connection?s security.Click to expand...

Seems this only happens with WFP driver enabled which is not needed for third party browser and IE. Edge and the Windows 8/10 apps ads won't be filtered. For me (if I used Sophos) is an ok trade off. I don't use Edge and rarely use Windows apps excluding Xbox (which has no ads).

Getting rid of it? I know you can remove the Adguard notification itself, but the Adguard VPN notification comes through Android OS which you cannot disable. This is a dealbreaker for me, and I currently can't go back to Xposed (AdAway) until I can log into Snapchat again. Any workarounds or alternatives? The key icon to the top left of my screen is annoying, and I always have a massive notification on pull-down.

can you switch it to HTTP proxy mode?

or you can simply add hphosts or MVPS hosts files to yours. Maybe one of them or 1 of 4 adaway hosts cause your snapchat problem

edit: here is the guide how to enable it -> scroll down a bit (Filtering and Root)

HTTP proxy is for rooted devices. I think you own one

I've been using uBlock for the past year and I've had no problems with it. It is in my opinion better then Adblock, It really does use less resources and has lots of configuration options. Although i did just stumble across another Adblocker called 'Adguard AdBlocker' which advertises to use even less resources then uBlock Origin and has a larger tracking filter then Ghostery and Disconnect. It really caught my eye, and i was wondering if i should switch to Adguard. Has anybody else used this extension before or is currently using it that can clarify that this is in fact better then other Adblocking extensions?

A:Is Adguard AdBlocker better then uBlock Origin?

I gave Adguard a test a while back but returned to using uBlock which worked better for me.

I'm not sure wich adblocker currently i should use?
I have a lifetime license for Adguard but i´m not sure if I should use this or should remain with the browser plugins?

A:Adguard for Windows/Mac or Browser-PlugIn

I use the Adguard extension for more than 3 years now and I'm very happy with it. It is light and blocks everything it needs to block. It also has some protection against bad/malicious websites. I use the extension, since I don't need the desktop version. I used Adblock plus in the past, but I liked Adguard much more. µblock is also a good alternative, but after trying much adblocking extensions. I always return back to Adguard.

Hello MalwareTips Community,

have been Testing ESET Internet Security 10 Beta and must say it is nice, I like it allot. The only one thing that does not Work at all and I don't know how to fix it is the: "HTTPS Scanner"

Had to turn it: "Off" or I would receive Errors on every Website with all Browsers!

Example Firefox: What does "Your connection is not secure" mean? | Firefox Help

And like i sad before as soon as it is Off all works well... Now I think that "Adguard" is doing something that ESET does not like at all! Can not say since I like Adguard allot.

It could be that Adguard and ESET do not mix at all on the HTTPS Protection thing but if there is a chance to activate this feature and have Adguard present at the same time. I would be very grateful

Many thanks in advance
Val.

A:ESET SmarSecurity 10 Beta and Adguard

ESET's web filtering is not properly optimized during my testing of ESET Smart Security 10 Beta, so it could be that filters of ESET and Adguard not liking each other. ESET 10 final will arrive soon and it may be fixed soon.

Hi,

So absically as the thread says: is it a wise decision to use Adguard alongside an AV, or is it better to use in-browser adblockers? Can anything go wrong?

Thanks

A:Is Using an AV and Adguard at the same time a good decision?

I've used Avast, Emsisoft and Kaspersky with Adguard, no problems other than when I upgraded to the Anniversary build 14393.10 I kept getting certificate security issues because Avast and Adguard were clashing so I reinstalled them both, started with Avast and then Adguard and It's all been fine here.

Can you test the above mentioned scenario with AX64 website & Adguard Desktop HTTPS filtering enabled?
Go to AX64 website & click "Tour Features" - In browser, I get -
Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from ax64.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).
NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID

A:Adguard & HTTPS websites & certificates

I tried with Chrome 64 Bits installed & Adguard Desktop.
AX64 website - "Tour Features" link not working And "Feedback & Support" link working.

Without Adguard -
Feedback & Support - Page is Secure, Valid Certs, Original Certs
Tour Features - Page is Insecure, Invalid Certs, Original Certs
Your connection is not private
Attackers might be trying to steal your information from ax64.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards).
NET::ERR_CERT_DATE_INVALID

With Adguard -
Feedback & Support - Page is Secure, Valid Certs, Adguard Certs
Tour Features - Page is Insecure, Valid Certs, (there is no "view certs" tab)
This site cant provide a secure connection
ax64.com sent an invalid response.

I just uninstalled Norton antivirus using supplied disk to install 'Avast!' and now windows freezes after the Norton internet security and antivirus (the latter with a red cross) icons appear in the task bar.
Now i cant try and remove them because the drivers are missing.
I can only boot in safe mode and have tried stopping from starting them using autoruns.
I downloaded a removal tool from symantec site but connot run this in safe mode.

A:XP freezes at desktop after NAV uninstall

You could try System Restore in Safe Mode - then use the Norton uninstall tool.

1. Boot to Windows XP Safe Mode With Command Prompt
2. At the command prompt, type C:\windows\system32\restore\rstrui.exe and press Enter.
3. Follow the instructions given to perform the System Restore process.

So please tell me how I can uninstall Visual studio 2013 for desktop so I can reinstall it. And make sure the solution will be permanetly deleting visual studio, not just something that will take more hardrive space like deleting it in the recycling bin.
I can get back to my greatest passion if someone can just give me the answer to my problem!
