When demote Active Directory Domain Services error "DFS Replication: Access is Denied"

Q: When demote Active Directory Domain Services error "DFS Replication: Access is Denied"

I have a secondary AD DS, then I clone it to three secondary AD DS. All three AD DS have the same hostname. Two secondary AD DS I turned off the replication to the primary AD DS. One secondary AD DS wants me to demote to change the hostname and wants me
to replicate it to the primary AD DS. But when I demote the AD DS an error appears:

The operation failed because:

DFS Replication: Access is denied.

"Access is denied."

Even though I use the administrator user and when I demote the AD DS, the two AD DSs whose replication died and I turned off the server, why did the error still appear?
How do I fix it so that I can demote the AD DS and replicate it again?

Thanks.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

There is a similar thread under Vista Applications: http://forums.techguy.org/windows-vista/610487-active-directory-domain-services-currently.html
but I am posting the problem here because I think it's a problem with MS Office 2007 rather than a Vista-networking one.

Basically, the problem is this:

If, within Word (or Excel) on our second PC, I go to "Print | Find Printer" so as to be able to use the printer connected to the main PC on our two-PC home network, I get the following error message: "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable." However, if go to "Print | Find Printer" under Windows Mail I can successfully locate the network printer and get it to print out an e-mail message.

This suggests to me that the problem is with MS Office rather than being related to the network setup under Windows Vista (Ultimate). Can anyone please suggest what I need to do in order to be able to send documents to the printer under MS Office?

A:Solved: MS Office: "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."

Thanks to help from another forum I have solved this problem.

My diagnosis was wrong: it wasn't a Word/Office problem, as such, but a dodgy network installation, which I was instructed to fix as follows:

"Go into Control Panel, Printers and click Add New Printer. Click Network Printer, and then click Browse for Printer." That did the trick.

But I still don't understand why, before this fix, Windows Mail could find the network printer but Word couldn't.

Anyway, all is now OK.

Have just reinstalled Windows 7 32 bit over Windows 7 64 bit and my computer doesn't now recognise the same printer that it recognised under the 64 bit OS. Could someone please help me with this?

A:Can't install printer : "Active directory domain services is curren.."

Don't know if this is relevant or not but I tried running Windows6.1-KB917607-x86.msu but this informed me that the update was already installed.

Also I have another printer attached (both are via USB) and this one isn't being detected either.

I'm trying to remotely shutdown another PC in my home from my Desktop PC.

My Desktop PC is 64bit Win7 Home, but I don't think it matters, since a Google search shows every version of Windows AFTER XP has this problem.

I have the Win10 Preview running on a computer in another room. I'd like to be able to shut it down remotely from my primary (Win7) computer. To do this, I run "shutdown /I" from the command prompt. The dialog appears but when I try to "Browse" the network for the other PC, I get an error message telling me:

"Active Directory Domain Services unavailable"

This happens whether I do this from the Win7 PC or the Win10 PC, so I know it's not a hardware or OS specific thing. It also happens if I try to do the same directly from the CLI.

I don't want to have to setup a Server just to do this one tiny thing. Any ideas? TIA.

When you say remotely do you mean Remote Desktop? If so, have you tried pressing Ctrl_Alt_End and then clicking on shutdown?

Hi there

I cannot print and I have not been able to find the fix via existing forum threads.

System:
Win 7 Ultimate 64 bit German - Profile language is Danish (installed a week ago and completely windows updated)
Office 365 Small Business Premium
HP DV8 Laptop. i7, 512GB SSD, 8GB RAM
HP LaserJet P1006 USB printer.

Problem

No matter if I try to print from IE, Notebook, Word 2013 or anything else, I cannot chose my printer (P1006).

If I try to Add Printer in Word 2013, I get the "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable" error.

In Devices and Printers, the P1006 is visible, but there is no driver installed.

Trying to install the correct driver:

only creates a general error during installation: "Printer  Software Installer has stopped working - A problem has caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows closes the program and will notify you if a solution has been found"

I have tried all the solution software from Windows, from HP (for the laptop and for the printer) - but nothing comes up with any details or suggestions.

What should I try?

Absolutely everything else works perfectly on the system.

Here's the problem..last week, I tried to print a document, but it said that the printer was offline. Strange. I dismissed it as something wrong with the printer, but today I tried printing again and it gave me the same problem. I didn't what to do, so I went to "find printers" and got the error message: "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable."

Does anybody know what this means/how to fix it? I'm running vista, sharing printer using wireless LAN. I googled this problem, but haven't found any solutions.. the only thing was that somebody had a similar problem, which occurred when they pressed CTRL+WIN+F... I tried that, and I get the "Active Directory..." error message also

I understand subnetting, cedar etc, and data replication as far as databases go...

But what is meant by replication as far as Microsoft Active Directory Services is concerened?

(examples of a few terms i could use a hand with)

The Active Directory physical structure governs when and how replication takes place. This is true of both intersite and intrasite replication

replication services

The site structure permits the management of Active Directory replication scheduling between sites

The few n+ books i read never covered this topic at all.

scheduling? replication? In an AD sense...
thanks

A:Solved: What is meant by "Active Directory" replication?

Think of it this way Active Directory is a Database of information. It stores within it computer accoounts, user acounts, OUs and all that good stuff. The replication is just that where it takes the contents of this database and moves it from one server to another using the replication service.

Here is a good example.

You have site A and Site B. Both sites have a servers but only Site A has an AD integrated server. All Site B users are actually going from site B to Site A to get their AD information. Should the link ever get severed from Site A to Site B those site B PC's would be in deep doo doo.

Now using the same scenario if you take Site B and add an AD server then the Site A would have an AD server and Site B would have an AD server and each site would access their own AD server and be happy if a link went down. If these 2 sites didn't replicate data what would happen? You would have 2 entirely different databases and it would make management a pain.

The main tool for checking replication is the Active Directory Replication Monitor.

Here is a good link -
http://www.lockergnome.com/nexus/it...ooting-active-directory-replication-problems/

As far as scheuling you can determine how often you want replication to occur so its not a burden on your bandwidth or other reasons.

Hello !

Our ATA reports some events related to "Malicious replication of directory services".
Those reports always happen on monthly mainenance windows, on those MW, usually server get restarted to process updates etc.

Could this be the reason for above Threat alerts ?

RELEVANCY SCORE 127.6

Hello,
We received an alarm from ATA with title "Malicious replication of directory services" and description is "Malicious replication requests were successfully performed from (DC-01's IPv6 address) against (DC-02 FQDN)."
We are using version 1.8.6765.36693.
DC-01 and DC-02 have "normal" IPv6 addresses configured but ATA has only the Link-local IPv6 address, and ATA is not part of the domain.
I can ping from ATA to DC-01's Link-local IPv6 address but not the normal IPv6 address. And when I do nslookup from ATA searching DC-01's FQDN, it does return DC-01's normal IPv6 and IPv4 addresses to ATA.

Also in ATA the domain name has been configured in the IPv4 and IPv6 vNIC DNS suffix settings so I can ping both DC-01 and DC-02 with their hostnames and it will resolve automatically to the FQDN. i.e. pinging dc-01 with resolve to dc-01.domain.com

Does anyone know how to fix this? It would seem that probably assigning a "proper" IPv6 address to ATA might solve the issue, but then again ATA does get the DC-01's IPv6 address when using nslookup so shouldn't it be able to figure out that the
address is for the DC-01 anyways?
Thanks!

Hi Iray007, welcome to the Seven Forums.

The Windows system folders Program Files, Program Files (x86), Windows and ProgramData are protected and by default the user cannot create / save anything inside them without taking the ownership of these folders or using the built-in administrator rights.

It is not recommend to use these protected system folders for saving program output or personal files. You should create and save your projects on some other location, for instance create a folder in your personal user folder for this purpose (C:\Users\Your_Username\MyProjects).

The steps in the above thread is not recommended.
For the short name usage, we may consider to create a directory-junction from

I would be grateful for any help the forum may have with a knotty problem. Win 7 64 bit, Thinkpad W510. Canon MX700 printer on the home office network. Printer working fine for several years with both the laptop and the Win7 64 desktop, no problems with
any function, print, fax scan. The Canon software created a dedicated network port, on both desktop and laptop, "Canon BJ Network Port", number as CNBJNP_(followed by the MAC address, colons removed).

Suddenly the laptop cannot print anything, from Office, Notepad, web page nothing. Ran a test page, came back fine, "you have correctly installed your printer". Anything I try to print, error message "Printer not responding". Did a communication
check and got this message: "The Active Directory Domain Services is unavailable". (Printer is working fine with desktop PC FYI). I checked everything suggested in forums, Print Spooler (fine- on automatic and running everytime I check). Network
functionality is fine between the Thinkpad, router and desktop PC, no problem accessing internet, transferring files to/from desktop etc. MS Support level 1 tech tried what he could find in his database, uninstalled printer, uninstalled Norton, deleted drivers
(I think), reinstalled. Now the Canon installation software sees the printer but cannot create the network port and installation stalls.

Hi, I'm new to these forms, my name is Kcaz.

Today I was trying to add wireless printers to my computer (Toshiba running Windows 7 64 bit). At home, I have one wireless printer (Cannon) which works fine. To install that i think I downloaded the drivers from a CD.

Now I was trying to download the drivers for the printers at school. They are all connected through the main internet network. I've seen people (mac) download the drivers wirelessly, and I wanted to do the same. So in Microsoft Word 2007, when I press print, then in the window "Find Printer" an error comes up that says "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable". It doesn't matter where I try it, home or school, i guess the problem is within the computer.

I tried to google this, but the responses are all about how people can't print, or another related, but not relevant problem.

Is there anyway to fix this?

Anyone tried deleting a registry key in Windows 7?  Got "access denied" or "Error while deleting key"?
The usual response is, "You need to run regedit as an administrator".  but I *AM* logged in as Administrator, and running regedit as administrator, trying to assign administrator full permissions on that registry key in order to delete it!!
Am I mistaken, or isn't Administrator supposed to be able to administer and control all the settings on the computer, in order to set it up for the "Average Joe" user?
So, under the permissions menu of that key, go to advanced, change the owner from System to Administrator, and try again.  It's no longer saying "access denied", but "Cannot delete xxxxxx. Error while deleting key".

The scenario: Basically, the wireless has stopped working on a laptop. The device does not show up in Device Manager, but is in the registry, so the normal procedure is to delete the registry entry for the device in HKLM/System/CurrentControlSet (and /ControlSet001) /Enum/PCI    ,then attach the device or restart the computer, it finds the "new" hardware and reinstalls it. Easy!...

Not with permission restrictions on the administrator account it's not!  So I need to give myself permission, to give myself permission, to do a simple task like delete a single registry key!  Why, Microsoft, why???!!!  Please just make the Administrator accoun... Read more

Hi,
I am having some real troubles getting back on track with my laptop.

Recently I was having some problems with ownership controls with 'My Documents' , namely I could not uncheck the "Read Only" attribute. Or I could uncheck it, yet when i reopened properties it was checked again.

So I booted up into safe mode, and switched ownership over from administrator to my user account. In the process I think I deleted the 'User or Built-in security principal' account for accessing services.

Now maybe half of my services =
Avira ANti-Vir
Commodo Firewall etc..

will not start because of a 'Log on as...' failure.
I tried to bump the services over to start up on my User account, yet it still says 'access is denied'

I am having some trouble in figuring out what exactly to do next, and any help would be greatly appreciated!

Thanks.

*Note: the services dialog box that comes up upon trying to start the services in question comes up with an
"Error 5: Access is denied"

A:windows services "access denied" problems

Follow-up
In the Services Properties box under 'Log On', I've tried switching it back and forth the "Local System account" and any other designated account under "This account..."

With the "This account..." option the error code is #1069
Local System error code is #5

I think maybe somehow the Local System account got screwed, so the permissions dont apply or cant be used for starting services up.

Anyways if anybody knows how to re-establish the Local System account maybe that would help?
Just thinking off the top of my head here. Thanks again!

P.S. Sorry about the second post but i couldn't re-edit the first one.

What we need:

To enable single sign on across all computers and VMs using Active Directory domain services.Be able to control user permmissions via ADNot have to manually change DNS settings when adding computers to the new domain I assume we have to make.
I started by making a new domain in a new forest on a new VM meant to be the new domain controller(hostgator domain=clearcapgroup.com and new domain=ClearCap.com).  I created records on hostgator to point requests for clearcap.com to the new domain
controller (ClearCap.com domain controller = dc1).  When I use the wizard to try and connect a computer to ClearCap.com via dc1, dc1 is detected but cannot be contacted.

Is this even the proper way to achieve the end goal of single sign on across all PCs and AD services for users and groups?  Should I make a subdomain of clearcapgroup.com instead of a separate domain?  I am mildly experienced in networking, main
concentration is development usually, any help/advice/resources are appreciated!

The above notwithstanding, I just went through all the same hoops here - in my case trying to get my laptop to hook up with the HP printer attached via USB to a desktop on the network. Inevitably with HP printers, I went to hell and back trying to install it, and just at just about the point where I was ready to attempt to fling the printer over the horizon - it inexplicably connected and printed just fine.

I think at some point I have been there with almost every printer I have ever owned. Why you can perform the same operation 19 times and get a different result on the 20th ... I have no idea.

Before going further, would you please elaborate under what circumstances this happened? Did the printer previously work properly? At this moment, we can follow the reply provided by Leo Huang to troubleshoot this issue.

I just installed a network printer, KodakESP9200+0058. It works for Word and Notepad, but not with Excel. When I try to print on Excel, the name of the printer is not listed. When I click on "Find Printers", I receive a "Find in the Directory" message of "The Active Directory Domain Services is currently unavailable." Can anyone help?

Hello, I am trying to print over the network. I can send test pages, print using adobe, and see the printer I am connected to with the find new printer wizard.

But for some reason, when I print with MS Office, the printer does not show up in the list, and when I try to find the printer through MS Office, I get an error saying the Active Directory Domain Service is currently unavailable.

Can anyone help? I'm running windows 7. Thanks.

I tried to associate the file extension .txt to a new editor program
with the well known cmdline programs ASSOC and FTYPE.

No, assigning them through WinExplorer menu does not work.
But this is another problem which should not discussed here.

When I type now one of the following alternative commands at the CommandPrompt then Win7 returns me something like:

assoc .txt=txtfile

"Access denied"
The following error occurs: .txt"

or

ftype txtfile=D:\notepad++\notepad++.exe "%%1"

"Access denied"
The following error occurs: txtfile"

Why?

The command above work fine under WinXP

Hi, All.

I've got an interesting situation that I'm hoping can be resolved. I built a server using FreeNAS 8.2 to store family pictures, videos, music, and Windows backups. In my home we have Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit and Windows 7 Professional 64bit. The server is setup with 3 Windows (CIFS) Shares. One share for each of the two computers and then a common share for multimedia. The user accounts on the NAS belong to the common group "family." The Multimedia share has ownership (user:group) of root:family. The permissions on the directories in the Multimedia share are read/write/execute for owner, read/write/execute for group, and read/execute for everyone else (or 0775 in the *nix world). Sorry for the long setup explanation.

Anyway, on my computer (Professional) and my wife's computer (Home Premium), I see the shares in Windows Explorer | Network. I am able to access the shares, and the first time I accessed, I was prompted to enter user credentials, which I did along with checking the box to have the credentials remembered. So, now, when I access the shares in Windows Explorer, I have immediate access. I can read, write, delete, whatever through Windows Explorer.

On my computer, I was able to easily transfer my iTunes library to the Multimedia share through the iTunes application, and iTunes now sees all of my iTunes media from the NAS, rather than local. On my wife's computer, I am having a problem with pictures. I was able to easily move all of the 4.8 GB... Read more

So have you tried setting the permissions using the Security tab rather than the Sharing tab? Often times you need to set the permissions on both of those tabs in order to have complete access. The link below shows you how.

This has happened with Windows 10 PRO and Windows 7 PRO now.

New PC, Fresh install of windows.  All updates, patches, fixes, etc.. installed.
I transfer the customers info from their OLD pc (windows 7 in one instance... windows vista in another)
After transfer the data IS accessible.  After reboot the data IS accessible...  after a few days "access denied" error. (permissions error)

I can move the same file to another location (folder) other than "documents" and the file will open fine.
I can transfer ALL The files to that location and the files will open fine.
IF I "move" the documents folder to the new location... after a day.... access denied (permissions error)
I am not doing anything that I haven't done over the last 10 years,... VERY FRUSTRATING.  I believe it is a windows update of some sort that is causing the problem but cannot pin it down.
Any assistance is GREATLY appreciated!

I added a slave drive to my Windows XP Pro computer, and it appears to work properly.

However, when I open the "Documents and Settings" folder (on the slave drive E:\, which is Windows XP Home Edition -- not XP Pro), I do not see any of my documents, sub-folders, etc. There should be MANY sub-folders (inside the "My Documents" folder which isn't even visible), with hundreds of documents, jpgs, etc. within it.

When that drive is installed as the Primary drive in my other computer, the User "Larry" (which is me) has all Administrative privileges. On the computer that I'm running now (with the slave drive in it), I also have Administrator privileges. I own both computers.

My User Name "Larry" is password-protected when I login to Windows (when the drive is Primary and installed into my main computer (not this computer with XP Pro).

I've tried clicking on all the users; Administrator, Default User, Larry, Guest, etc. (Note: I get an "Access Denied" error when clicking on the Guest "Documents and Settings" folder).

So, the questions are:

1. Why can't I see any files or subdirectories in the "Documents and Settings" folder on the slave drive?

2. There's supposed to be a folder named "My Documents," but I can't find it. Normally, that path is "C:\Documents and Settings\My Documents".
--- Where is that folder? It contains all the files I'm looking for.

It seems that other than the 'dir' command, every command I run from my dos prompt, I get an "Access is denied." message.  Example:
C:\Users\aagha>ipconfig
Access is denied.

I've checked my UAC settings and made sure they're set to "Never Notify".

I've also tried to run sfc.exe, but can't:
C:\Users\aagha>sfc.exe
Access is denied.

Finally, I've tried to run cmd.exe as administrator, but no luck.
The one thing I've noticed is that if I go to cmd.exe's Properties and then the Security tab, I see that TrustedInstaller has Full control, but SYSTEM, Administrators and Users have only:

Read & execute andRead
I've tried to change permissions by editing, but when I do so, I get an "Access is denied" message.
I've run out of ideas on what else to try and would appreciate the help.

A:[SOLVED] Windows 7 cmd prompt gives "Access is denied." error for every command

SOLVED!

The problem was that I had the Personal firewall from Comodo installed.  By uninstalling this, all normal DOS functionality seems to have returned!

Hi,

I've a question about assigning ownership.
I'm logged in as user "Steph".
As Steph, I made a new folder "Documents_Steph".
Because she made the folder, she's owner of this folder.

Then I tried as Steph to assign ownership to a different user "User01".
But then I got the message "Unable to set new owner on.. Access denied"?
Though I thought that when you're owner of a file or folder, you can assign ownership to everyone?
What am I doing wrong?

Thanks in advance!!

Kind regards,

Taking ownership of a file is a multi step process unless you use the "take ownership" shortcut which does all the work for you.

Well, you have to run as administrator in order to do that. Make sure the account you're using is an administrator account. Even if it is, run the explorer "as administrator". It will as you for permission, but not for the password - since you're already an administrator. After that it should work. Let us know if it does not.

I installed WP11 on 3 workstations. One of the workstations is where all the doc's ar kept.

If a doc is saved by the WP11 application on the PC where all the doc's are kept....whenever another user tries to access it we get Wordperfect error while accessing file "Access denied" and says it's in use

Any ideas? it's a peer to peer network and maybe it's the way I have my drives mapped on each PC...........Confused though.
