"However, your current configuration prevents SLI from functioning." (7950GX2)

Q: "However, your current configuration prevents SLI from functioning." (7950GX2)

That's what happens to me two restarts after installing/reinstalling the Forceware drivers for my MSI 7950GX2, every time.

Here's the system in question:

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600 @ 2.4GHz (stock) cooled by Big Typhoon
ASUS P5N32-E SLI Plus motherboard @ 1066MHz FSB (stock), no active cooling, just heatpipes
Two sticks of pqi TURBO 2GB DDR2-667 4-4-4-12 @ 1T, stock clocks
40GB Seagate Barracuda IV PATA HDD (test installation of OS and a couple games)
MSI NX7950GX2 in the top PCI Express x16 slot.
Thermaltake Purepower RX 600W - 4x +12V rails
My air-cooling setup keeps the CPU at around 28-32C when idle, depending on room temperature.
The system is running Microsoft Windows Server 2003 x64 Standard Edition, with Service Pack 2 freshly installed.

I only have one 7950GX2, and I have *never* been able to get "Multi-GPU configuration" to actually show up under "Manage 3D Settings" in the NVIDIA Control Panel. I've recently flashed to the latest BIOS for my motherboard, and I can always reproduce the error in either PCI Express x16 slot. There are no other cards besides the audio riser card.

I've tried using only one 2GB stick of RAM and then installing the Forceware drivers, and I've tried it with relaxed timing (5-5-5-15) as well.

I've also tried using all three of the 6-pin PCI Express connectors that the power supply offers. Each one works off of a different rail. No differences noticed. Each +12V rail on the PSU supplies 18 amps of current.

The text in the error message reads:

"Restart Required
Your graphics card features NVIDIA Scalable Link Interface (SLI) technology.
However, your current configuration prevents SLI from functioning.
SLI has been disabled and your system will restart in 15 seconds."

Yes, I printscreened, pasted into MS Paint, and saved in less time than that.
There is no way to abort the shutdown, such as with "shutdown -a" from the Run prompt.

I Googled for the text of the error and only came up with two results, neither one of them seems to have the answer.

So what's causing this? Misconfiguration in the BIOS? Operating system? Forceware? A combination? I had some trouble with the Forceware drivers at first - I had to download the Microsoft Visual C++ redistributable for x64 to get half the options to show up, but I still don't have them all!

I'm going to try downgrading to Windows 2000 just to test - it's the only other Microsoft operating system I have.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just tried to install the latest iTunes update, but keep getting an error when it tries to access the C:\Program Files\iPod folder.

When I try to access the iPod folder directly through Windows Explorer, I get "Access is denied".

The same happens when logged in with the system administrator account.

When I right-click the folder and choose Properties > Security, the Current owner field shows "Unable to display current owner." And it won't allow either of the listed administrator accounts to take ownership.

When I choose Properties > Security > Advanced > Owner, the Current owner field also shows "Unable to display current owner." And it won't allow me to Edit it either.

I've tried opening the Command Prompt as the administrator, and deleting the folder, but it won't allow me to do that either.

Any ideas on how to forcefully take ownership and/or delete this folder?

Fresh install of EMET 5.52 on Windows 10 "Anniversary edition" 64-bit, clicking on the Trust configuration button produces:

"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application." ...

So, two issues:
1. This bug needs to be investigated, in any case; and
2. Until then, how might I see/edit the Certificate Trust rules (to work around the perennial problems of EMET not staying up to date with e.g. Facebook certificates)?

Hi everyone, this morning I turned on the PC to do the usual stuff but I could not connect to my internet with the error "Unidentified Network - Limited". After trying to troubleshoot my ethernet I get the error "Ethernet doesn't have a valid IP configuration". After troubleshooting didn't work I took to the web. After two month's use the "e" and "c" keys stopped working on my wireless keyboard. I ran Dell diagnostics and got a FAILURE report. Dell promptly sent me a replacement keyboard. After two minutes of use the same keys failed to respond. Also, the power light blinks off and on slowly. Not sure if that's pertinent. Anyone have any suggestions while I wait a response from tech support?  I'm using a wired keyboard now. Thanks.

I accidentally pulled the plug out of my computer when it was in the middle of shutting down. Now that I've tried to reboot it, I get a screen saying:

Start Windows Normally

Whenever I click on any of the options above, I always ends up back at the same screen, suggest the above options again. I've tried rebooting I again a few times but nothing works?

Any ideas?

Now, I know there a some of them that I need......for example: "AVG Update Service". But there are many (most, in fact) that I haven't a clue about what they do or if I really need them. For example: "Cryptographic Services". What in hell is that? What I'd like to do is disable all the stuff that I don't really need, so that I'm not wasting resources. As the above title describes ""Local Area Connection" doesn't have a valid IP configuration"

I've tried every possible fix. CMD -> ipconfig /release - ipconfig /renew - reboot computer, nothing happens.

On the Network Sharing Center - I get my Network shown as "Unidentified Network."

I tried Uninstalling and Re-Installing the NIC, no luck. Updating the Driver didn't help either as it says it's up-to-date.

I've tried manually assigning the IP address, but I don't think I did it correctly, as I am quite new with Networking problems and especially with all the IP addresses', DNS, DHCP. etc. So I need support with that and try it out whether that fix will work, although I doubt at this point since I tried everything.

I tried disabling the IPv6 as well that did nothing too.

I also RESET my router, which also had no affect. I am using the VIRGINMEDIA SUPER HUB ROUTER. It's a Fibre Optic Connection.

I also called my ISP, they suggested the Internet is all stable and has no connection problems. The Technician I spoke to over the phone said that there is something at fault with my computer itself and not the Router or Internet connection. In other words, my NIC.

My wireless connection works without any issues, but when I plug-in my Ethernet Cable on the back of my Computer (Motherboard) it does not detect any Internet Access and I get the " Unidentified Network." When I troubleshoot it gives me that error whic... Read more

Lets take a peek at your network environment:

Power Cycle everything . . Turn off the Modem, router and all pc's . . turn on the Modem and wait a few minutes for the lights to stabilize . . then turn on the router, then one pc at a time. See if you connect to the internet.

Then: check your browser's settings, remove any proxy settings if found here's how.

with the pc connected to the router, Click on Start . . Run . . type CMD

At the > prompt type type the following command: IPCONFIG /ALL

Note that there is a space before the /ALL, but there is NOT a space after the / in the following command.

Right click in the command window and choose Select All, then hit Enter. Come back here and Paste the results in a message.

This is very strange.

About two weeks ago I reinstalled Win7 Pro x64 from scratch in order to properly support my new Ceton TV tuner card. All of my application software is now just about fully reinstalled as well, and everything's working fine. The new Win7 is very much "cleaner, leaner, and meaner" than the previous installed version which I'd used kind of like a "training bicycle" over the past 11 months. Much closer to "pure Microsoft" with no "foreign codec packs".

Ok, my current problem seems to be totally related to Win7's Windows Firewall. For some reason 4 out of 5 boots on this machine do NOT establish a network connection (the desktop PC is "wired" connected to the router). And then, almost randomly, maybe 1 time out of 5 I will get a network successfully established. No way of really predicting success or failure, but each failure causes me to re-boot and try again.

Obviously there are several programs that start up with Windows and that need to get out to the Internet, including my Sophos anti-virus (looking for updates), DynDNS (to maintain my hostname/IP address on the DynDNS site), and in particular a program named CLOCKWISE (which goes out to the Navy's web site to get an accurate time-of-day to set my PC's clock).

Now CLOCKWISE also puts out a "Big Ben" chime sound when it sets the clock, so I know if this program is working by whether or not I hear Big Ben. And of course, on those 4 out ... Read more

A:Windows Firewall prevents "network connection" at boot time

Well, either nobody has experienced something like this or there's nothing inherently wrong with Win7 or Windows Firewall or my setup that I haven't already done or tried.

Anyway, as luck would have it, all of the re-boots I've done on this machine (as now configured, with the full-enabled newly added inbound and outbound entries in Windows Firewall for Clockwise) over the past few days have NOT seen the symptom at all! Each boot has immediately resulted in the "Big Ben" chime from Clockwise, indicating it had successfully gotten to the Internet and set the PC clock.

Of course I have no explanation for why this is now working 100% normally again (as it used to, though intermittently, even before I added the new entries to Windows Firewall for Clockwise!). Nothing else in the environment has changed.

Anyway, it still does look like Windows Firewall did at least have something to do with the intermittent boot-time failure to establish my network connection (i.e. wired connection through my Netgear router and out through the cable modem). Turn off Firewall, and boot occurs normally. Turn Firewall back on, and boot occurs intermittently normal.

And yet, last few days, Firewall is on and 100% boots have been normal!

Go figure.

Has anyone had a problem with a computer that will not shut down completely after Windows 10 update? I have one and discovered that if I turn off the fast start option it will shut down all the way.

Curious if anyone experienced this and if there is a solution other than disabling fast start.

A:Windows 10 "Fast Start" prevents full shutdown

Fast startup puts the PC in a hybrid sleep mode instead of a full shut down. That's how it speeds up the next startup. It also makes it tricky to access your BIOS on startup on some PC's. I run SSD's in all my PC's and just disable it. It's of no real advantage to me as far as boot up times go. As always YMMV.

Hi Guys & Gals: be careful what you wish for in wanting to update to DirectX 12!

I purchased a brand new $3.5K laptop (MSI GT72 6QD dominator 16GB RAM + 6GB independent GDDR Nvidea GTX970M, Intel CORE i7 CPU 2.6) four weeks ago which came with Win 10 installed - I then downloaded an adventure game ?Adr1ft? from Steam and it ran faultlessly - I think Win OS had DIRECTX 11 installed in this version of Win 10? And I am aware Adr1ft recommends minimum of 2.8Ghz speed CPU but I can over-clock it if I want but this isn?t the problem, either (See below).

Then Win 10 Home garbage installed itself in my laptop and the game hasn't worked since. I?ve been through four complete factory reinstalls and trying to prevent Win 10 Home from installing BUT all to no success.

Then Steam and Microsoft whilst both "seemed to be interested? really did nothing whatsoever to fix the problem! I think Steam can be forgiven since they neither made the game nor OS System!

Initially, after running compatibility trouble shooter two missing dll files were identified (namely X3DAudio1_7.dll and XAPOFX1_5.dll, there could possibly be more as yet unidentified), which after locating them and installing in Sys 32 & SysWOW64 folders initially produced just the game video but unfortunately, NO SOUND! Then along came another Win 10 Home update and now nothing whatsoever works with this game!

I've reviewed and even tried a couple of the suggestions posted for ".... an error prevents this Slide Show ...." -- most deal with the "Screen Saver" situation, however, mine involves slide shows sent to me via my Yahoo e-mail address. I never had a problem viewing slide shows or pix of any kind, now, when I hit the "start" button on the slide show nothing happens. Does anyone have any suggestions? Again, I don't want to "Screen Save" anything, just run them in my e-mail as forwarded to me by friends/work.

Also, I don't know if the two problems are related, but I cannot "print" e-mails from my Yahoo.com mail either....unless I unplug the printer (also HP) for 15 seconds or so, then re-plug -- what happened? I have no problems printing from our AOL or ATT.net accounts. Thanks for any suggestions!

I am running Windows XP SP3, fully updated, on an Acer lap top PC.

I have several folders full of .mp3's and want to see the bit rate and duration. To do this I right click on a column heading and select "Bit rate". I then click on "More..." so I can get to "Duration", and I select that one too.

The two new columns appear, but the format of the "Duration" column appears to be "hours:minutes", so I see "00:04" or "00:03" for most .mp3's, when what I want to see is 'hours:minutes:seconds", e.g. "00:03:45".

This also happens for video files (.avi files), e.g. all my episodes of "Heroes" (sad, I know) have a duration of "00:42" instead of "00:42:xx".

Here are two pictures showing the problem with the .mp3's. The first is of Explorer showing the Duration as "Hours:Minutes":

The second picture is of the properties window of the first .mp3 in the list above:

I copied some .mp3 files to another (old) PC on my home network, and it displayed the duration field correctly:

Also, the properties window correctly shows the duration also:

I have a back up disk that I can boot and attempt a system restore from. I don't know though if this is the correct choice of action. Should I run system restore to try to fix this?

With any web browser on my computer, I cannot use search engines such as Google, Yahoo, Ask, or any others, and cannot access my Gmail either. I am not exactly sure what is causing this, and I ran PC Pitstop Exterminate, and it found a downloader called "Darksma." I deleted it, and was prompted to restart my computer, so I did. When I ran the scan again, no threats were detected, but once I turned on my computer the next time, Darksma came up again. I ran a Windows Defender deep scan, that took friggin' forever, it found 2 viruses, removed them, and then my web browsers were working fine again. But whenever I turn on my computer again, the web browsers begin to fail again.

How can I solve this problem?

Intel Pentium M processor, 1.73 GHz

A:Internet Browsers not functioning properly, and a reappearing "Darksma"

It seems as if there is a process that starts up when I turn on the computer that causes the browsers to stop functioning. I go into RegCure and there are some processed that come up that are indicated as "enabled" that run RunDll's, but when I disable and remove them, they just come back once I restart RegCure.

Also, whilst I am on the Web on Firefox or Internet Explorer, a new tab appears, the window is minimized, and there is a new window that appears in the bottom right corner of the screen that says that I can optimize my PC, and that it may be infected. But once I exit the window, the Internet browsers function normally again.

I am beginning to see the problems with my computer, and the problems are getting easier to work around, but I would really appreciate it if someone could assist me in removing them completely.

I receive this error message in the Windows System log regularly. Device Manager does not show any malfunctioning devices.

Apparently csvol service is part of HFS+ for Windows. This is a program that allows reading of HFS+ file systems on Windows. I did install that.

And I believe these Event ID 7000 errors are related to a service failing to start. maxView Storage Manager Agent service will not start. It is set to 'automatic start' in the Services viewer app. However, I find that it is not started, and if I attempt to start it manually, I receive a message stating it started and then stopped, "Some services stop automatically if they are not in use by other services or programs." That should not be the case with this service.

I'd greatly appreciate any help with this!

I recently puchased a new M4800 with an i7 quad, and a Firepro m5100 GPU. So far i have been rather satisfied with the purchase as it does everything i need it to do. However there are some quirks that are preventing it from being 100% :
When I run the descrete only card, the windows 7 log in has lag such that unless i move the cursor the screen does not update : you can type things in and no ****** symbols display in the password box. If you move the mouse constantly when you type the ***** does display in real time ? its a really odd sort of lag i have never experianced before in my life.
This does not happen with the integrated card. HOWEVER, the computer will not dynamically switch between the Intel and the AMD gpu (amd Enduro/ power express) as advirtized. When running in switchable graphics mode the global settings dropdowns are 100% blank in the CCC panel.
If you set it manually per application basis : it either does one of two things :
1) most games seem to launch fine, though monitoring it with RTSS indicates its running on the intel HD GPU, and the performance decreases substantially in reflection of this...
or 2) launching professional software like Cheif Archetect x6, or SolidWorks2014 causes the display to hang, fans to cut off and the computer wont do anything till a hard reboot via the power button.
*I have dissabled the inegrated GPU in bios and only run the AMD card as a work around. Is there a fix for this other than to ignore the Intel card ? Googling ... Read more

A:Precision M4800 : Input lag at log in, Switchable graphics not functioning, GPU fan "chirping" when it starts up.

My personal experience was a long and trying one.  First they sent a tech to replace the graphics card with another Firepro.  Did not make a difference.  Then they had tech replace motherboard.  No difference.  So I insisted on a new m4800 with the nVidia processor.  That's how I got mine.  BUT, I would think if you pushed, maybe they could send a tech to switch out your graphics card.  Or at least send you a different model (for which you will obviously need a different driver) and then you could install or take to a repair tech.
For what it's worth, Dell knows they have an issue with this hardware configuration and I was told they had elevated the issue to their senior engineers.

I am experiencing issues with my small domain setup. Windows Server 2012 R2 and windows 10 PRO domain attached PC's

Any users who are not a member of the Administrators group cannot login with their domain account (A device attached to the system is not functioning.) or access their file shares (invalid folder) even if they have been granted access to the file-shares.
However if I add them to the administrators group everything works fine with no issues.
I have not made any changes to group policy recently and have no idea what has changed to stop regular users from being able to do anything.

It is strange because there is nothing wrong with devices attached to the PC and the folders are definitely valid. It is all dependent on which account is trying to access.
Please let me know if you need further info.

In Internet Explorer on windows xp, Using the "add to favourites" folder feature does not work properly when trying to download webpages, the browser crashes, or the process takes a few minutes.
Steps taken to try to fix it have been re-installing Internet Explorer, software and reseting Internet settings. I can't figure out this problem, or if it is to do with my Internet ISP connection, which is the 02 modem dial up broadband connection.? as it used to work last year under a faster ASDL connection. I have what seems to be a unique right-click problem. After searching a bit, I found nothing that seemed to relate exactly to my issue.

My system is as listed in "My System Specs" (OS, CPU, motherboard, etc.).

On my system, there are setup a limited user account set, my own account (administrator-level), and also the built-in administrator account (unhidden and renamed).

Right-click is non-functional. No context menus appear anywhere at any time.

The application key on my Microsoft Natural Elite keyboard *does* bring up context menus (discovered this by chance).

Right-clicking with the mouse *does* bring up context menus in the limited user account, as well as in the built-in administrator account.

When running in Windows XP mode from my own account (I need this mode to run an application I use), the non-functioning right-click issue persists.

This problem arose seemingly “out of nowhere”. The only thing I had done recently was to run the “All tasks” (“mygodmode”) application–just as a matter of curiosity.

1. I have run SFC. No change.

2. I have run checks for malware, viruses. No issues.

3. I have run ShellExView and ShellMnView. No change.

4. I have changed the USB ports into which the mouse and keyboard are connected. No change

5. I have updated the drivers for the mouse and keyboard. No change.

6. I have uninstalled, then rei... Read more

Ok, my sound just stopped working out of nowhere,

my default volume panel on the taskbar had vanished and the icon for my "creative" volume panel was still there, but when i clicked on it a message came up "there is no supported audio device available. you need to close the application. click OK to close the application now."

So i did some reading and some people suggested i clear my drivers and reinstall.

I installed my motherboard chipset and audio drivers,

now after doing this when i start up a small box with a yellow triangle and exclamation point in it appears. its labeled "Volume panel". my sound returned for a few days but has cut out again after i turned my comp off. when i click on my Creative volume control i get a similar error message thats says "the current audio device is not supported by the application, do you want to select another audio device now" clicking yes brings up a box with one item in the drop down menu "Follow window default".

I could really use some help trying to figure out what is wrong with my computer. i guess i could try and clear my drivers and reinstall them again. but will the problem just come back in a few days again? what could be causing this???

Hello all,

I write you to give my experience about this annoying MS Office error. I tried almost all solutions explained in this forum, all solutions from http://support.microsoft.com, but none of them helped me completely. That includes:
- uninstall and then install from all accounts. Uninstall includes deleting all Office related files on hard drives and deleting all Office related registries
- perform a Windows Restore form a day that MS Office was generally working via Run->msconfig->Launch System Restore
- give permissions to "everyone" for C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Microsoft\OFFICE\DATA or delete these files
- delete MSO.dll and then repair MS Office in C:\Program Files\Common Files\Microsoft Shared\OFFICE11. I also tried with other MSO.dll files
- I also deleted my account on my PC and created a brand new account with the same name(I could not afford to change it)
- go to user account that has a working MS Office. Run->regedit go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Office and under the menu File->Export. After that go to normal user and open registry again and under the menu File->Import. I have to tell that this last fix has an impact! It removed the annoying error, but only MS Word was working as expected. Every other MS application was taking one of main CPU's cores and stopped working. So Excel, Outlook and PowerPoint were braking every time.

Finally, I solved the problem by performing a Windows repair... Read more

Don't really use FF but try CCleaner. Donationware/Freeware.
Read about it, download, close all windows and then install it.

For IE in particular. Check the items you want cleaned.
Whatever you decide to keep or not keep, be sure to leave a
check mark for index.dat files. Then open IE and see if you
can view your webpage. If it still doesn't work, what happens
if you move your local pages to another folder and then try
to view your webpage?

I found the solution that worked for me -- restoring OPA11.BAK -- on this forum a few days ago, and the Office programs work fine again without re-installing Office, creating a new user profile, etc. (which worked for others with the same symptom but different underlying problems). The remaining annoyance is that, when I let a "clean-up" utility delete OPA11.BAK, that also disappeared the Start Menu icons for the Office programs and the Office Resource Kit programs. Unlike most programs, these MS programs don't let me manually assign Start Menu icons. Has anyone found a way to restore the icons without un- and re-installing the Office programs and the Office Resource Kit programs? This is apparently a common problem with no single answer. Regardless of whether any USB is plugged in or not, the system will give this error after POST. I can't get it to go to BIOS, pressing Delete at the mobo screen does nothing.

A:Asus motherboard "USB Device Over Current Status Detected"

I just did a search for this error and I see what you mean, there are dozens of different solutions. Had you made any changes just before this occured?

I think the best place to start is to begin by disconnecting everything from the mobo apart from one memory stick and the monitor. This includes disconnecting the hard drive/s, CD drive/s, keyboard, mouse speakers, printer, any USB device and unplugging the cable that goes to the front USB connections (if you have any) any cards including graphics (unless you have no onboard graphics to connect to the monitor) and any card readers or floppy drives. Then try to boot and see if you get the post screen or that error again.

Let me know what happens.

While a appreciate the message. I want to turn it off. Like UAC, and turning it off, it isn't that I don't care for what it's telling me. I'd rather say oops and reimage if anything, for the first time in years, gets by me and somehow cripples my system.Mostly my computer is only being used as a glorified media center machine. There isn't a single possible way for malicious software to get in that I'm not closely monitoring. I want to turn this message off without turning off the information bar. That only because it's likely some other automatically blocked event will require turning on the information bar, force enabling something to do what I want it to, but was blocked by IE's built in security.Context:-Launch Applications and unsafe files (set to enable) to avoid the prompt.I wanted Windows to stop prompting me when I want to open shortcuts as links and save things from the internet. Which is only because I set up the links toolbar to replace the quick launch bar. So I checked enable instead of prompt for downloading and opening files. Now the information bar is permanently open.

I bought a WD Passport 1 year ago, and I've tried to test it by HD Tune Pro and Hard Disk Sentinel.
And result are listed below:

How could I fix this error? I feel my drive doesn't work softly anymore
Thank you so much!

A:How to fix "Current Pending Sector Count" on WD External Drive

What does "work softly" mean?

which says:

"Current Pending Sector Count S.M.A.R.T. parameter is a critical parameter and indicates the current count of unstable sectors (waiting for remapping). The raw value of this attribute indicates the total number of sectors waiting for remapping. Later, when some of these sectors are read successfully, the value is decreased. If errors still occur when reading some sector, the hard drive will try to restore the data, transfer it to the reserved disk area (spare area) and mark this sector as remapped.

This is a critical parameter. Degradation of this parameter may indicate imminent drive failure. Urgent data backup and hardware replacement is recommended."

You could run checkdisk and see if the number changes.

Or you could reformat, which is a drastic step and may not help.

Or you could adopt a policy of "watchful waiting" and hope. Hope that it doesn't get worse, while keeping your personal data backed up elsewhere.

Or you could throw in the towel and buy a new drive now, if this is causing you to lose sleep.

Running Windows 7 Pro with all updates. I recently tried to open task manager, for the first time in a long time, to determine why a scheduled task did not run. When I opened task manager I received the following error dialog 113 times where "xxx" is the name of a task and was different for each of the 113 error dialogs.

The selected task "xxx" no longer exists. To see the current tasks, click Refresh.

In the registry under TaskCache\Tasks I have only 12 entries, 11 of which point to the Windows\GWXTriggers folder and one that points to the Windows\Defender folder. I presume 113 entries are missing corresponding to the 113 error dialogs displayed when I open task manager.

All of the tasks appear in the TaskCache\Tree registry branch. All of the task files appear to be present in the Windows\System32\Tasks folder tree.*

How can I fix this problem? I assume I need to rebuild the TaskCache\Tasks registry entries from the files in*Windows\System32\Tasks folder tree. Is there a tool that will do this? Note that I DO NOT have a restore point from which I can recover the registry entries. Thanks.
