Ideapad Y580 - Reset PC failed - Stuck at 64% installation of Windows 10

Q: Ideapad Y580 - Reset PC failed - Stuck at 64% installation of Windows 10

Hi, Due to sluggish performance and virues issues, I decided to reset my Y580 PC. Took a backup of my data. Tried one key recovery button. It showed error message. So, used "Reser this PC" option under Settings>Recovery page. Selected "Removed everything" in the next step. Then after several minutes, it said reset was complete but some files cannot be deleted. Then it started the installation of Windows 10. Now it stucks in 64% and keeps restarting. Can someone help me with this?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, I have a Y510p laptop, and it's close to 3 years old now, which means the original software that came with it out from the factory is Windows 8.  So a month or two ago a malware and virus screwed up my precious laptop that I've tried super hard to not screw it up with viruses. I did remove the malware and virus, but then there was still a persisting thing so I decided to factory reset it.  After that, it went back to Windows 8 thanks to onekey recovery through novo button, and I've tried to install Windows 10 back, it did download and prepare to install and whatnot. But then when it reaches the "your PC will restart several times" part, when it restarts, the Lenovo splash art appears and nothing else happens, there's no spinning circles thing, and it stays there for a few hours so I decided to force shut down my PC. Before I did the Windows 10 installation, I did check for updates for a Windows 8 and installed them. I don't know what is going on and I need help!

Hi AmericanBear ,

Greetings.

To avoid creating other unneccessary partition during install and even windows.old folders that can eat up space, starting a fresh slate of OKR would be better.

This time , you can set the machine to clean boot and set power option to high performance (disable hibernate if necessary with powercfg -h off ).

Disable / uninstall any antivirus that may block windows update but you can immediately proceed with Win 8.1 patch even manually before proceeding with Windows 10 installation winthin Windows.

Hoping such suggestions help.
Update us how things go.

Getting an infinite loading sort of error where my comp goes to HP loading screen, blackscreen, turns off, and repeats. Very annoying and nothing I've seen so far is working. I don't have a disk or drive to use to reload Windows with, and I didn't set any system restore points like an idiot, so I'm stuck here. I'm not that great with computers so any help would be appreciated, thanks.

Where did you get you disk from and was it a full retail version? Did you remove all external devices except the keyboard and mouse?

There is the possibility that it was a bad disk. Download an ISO disk and try to install from that.

Hey guys, i've seen some similar questions asked about this, but the solutions to those problems haven't been able to help me so wanted to ask you guys if i missed something or you can help. Now when it boots, it just gets stuck at thLenovovo logo right when i boot it, without no signs of loading or anything, when i leave it there for some time, nothing happens. The NOVO button is not working, and i can't access the BIOS menu or Booting menu with any keyboard shortcuts. Unplugging it and removing the battery and holding the power button, then rebooting, also does nothing. I don't think anything is wrong with the hardware since it was running perfectly before i wiped it, but now it just gets stuck at the lenovo logo right when i boot it.Is it because windows did not get installed correctly, or some drivers were corrupted, or something with the BIOS (which i am not really sure what is, i do... Hello everyone! Sadly my first post here is written under pretty bad circumstances.

I am one of the many people whose systems (in my case a Precision 15 5510) were "automatically" upgraded to Windows 10 without warning, as Microsoft changed the status of Windows 10 from an 'optional update' to that of a 'reccommended update'.

After the installation completed, I was presented with the EULA and selected the 'decline' option and Windows notified me that if I continue with this option it will 'attempt to re-install Windows 7' so I did that. After supposedly re-installing Windows 7, my system restarted and booted with the Windows 7 logo but before the login screen appeared I got a blue screen and the laptop restarted. This subsequently happened every time I attempted to start my laptop, except for when I tried to boot in safe mode (which it did successfully).

I restarted the laptop, pressed F8 and selected the Repair option and the Dell Backup and Recovery option after that. I selected the drive I want to backup (C from the menu and was notified to insert a Flash Drive or a SD card that has more than 43GB free. I inserted a 64 GB USB 3.0 Flash Drive (SanDisk Extreme, which is meant to be really fast) and clicked 'Next'. Hi, I just picked up a  11.6" 110S. It has Win10 on it, original install date 12/2016. I thought the original OS would be Win8.1, but on the Web I've seen it's Win10. In any case, I tried to do a Reset, and after going through the paces it failed. No error message. I could do a clean install, but the problem is the 32GB size of the drive. Lenovo compresses the Reset image down to 1GB, amazingly. And if I took a backup image it would be many times that. There isn't room for that. And I don't want to store the image on external media.  So is there any way to make the Reset work? Thanks.

I tried to reset my computer today after 3 years of using it without any sort of re-formatting, and all three times the reset got stuck on 65% before a blue screen appeared and said that an error occurred. It would then give me the options of either:
a) returning back to my windows 10, with nothing changed
b) Trying to reset again
c) advanced options.

I tried the reset 3 times, and after the last try failed I went to advanced options to look at other ways to approach the issue, such as checking if there were any restore points that I could restore to (which there were none).

After that didn't work, I clicked on the first option of just returning back to my windows 10, and that was when it would not start up anymore.

My computer now is stuck on a infinite loop of the launch screen of the ASUS logo, it flashes, then goes onto the second ASUS logo, and this is all it does, go round and round.

I tried to boot it on F8, F9 (the ASUS recovery button), and the 'delete' button. NOTHING WORKS.

I finally tried F2, which led me to the BIOS page? And I clicked on the boot tab and disabled the first boot configuration option, and still to no avail. It returned to looping, and when trying F8, F9, after disabling that BIOS option, and it still won't do anything but loop.

Any ideas?

A:Win10 factory reset failed 3 times. Stuck on startup loop now

Obviously you have another computer that is working.
The following is to do a Clean Install Of Windows 10.
Use the link below and download the current Windows 10 ISO file > then burn it to a bootable media ( DVD or USB ).
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/softw...load/techbench

Note : make sure you select the same language, and bit version as your Asus computer.

Take the bootable media to your Asus computer > go to the Bios ( F2 key ) > set the boot order to CD/DVD or USB (depending on which bootable media you are using ) > insert the media > restart computer.
Installation will begin.
You will be asked for a product key. Click the Skip option ( or a "I do not have a product key" option ) and continue.
Activation should be automatic.

Hello, As stated in the title, I have a Lenovo IdeaPad y580. I purchased it approximately three-and-a-half years ago, and only now is it really beginning to chug durings its processes. Point is, I want it to last perhaps another half year or so while I finish saving up for another computer. As a gamer, I'm fine with the limitations of the GPU, but sometimes my laptop legitimately has issues processing stuff, such as loading Google Chrome properly. I know enough about Windows to clean out viral matter and uninstall programs that I don't use that are running in the back. But does anyone have any tips or tricks to make this hunk of junk last maybe six more months before it becomes unusable?TL;DR I need to make my laptop run at least a reasonably sub-average to average level for six more months. Any tips are appreciated.

My original HD is going bad so I decided to buy a new HD and an mSATA SSD. I've read more forums and watched more videos then I would have liked and I still can't find anything that can walk me through this. I want my mSATA to be configured like my original HD with a C: and D: partition and it to be able to run one button recovery and everything else that the original HD was able to do. Then I want the replacement disk HD to be just for storage. My computer did not come with an mSATA originally. It does have Intel Rapid Storage Technology but I can not find RapidTool.exe which some of the forums say is needed.

If your old HD is still operating, you should be able to clone it using the steps shown below.   Be warned that you must clone the whole drive, including all the hidden partitions, and can only resize the Windows Partition or the OKR recovery will not work, so the new m.2 SSD must be large enough to hold the entire contents of all the partitions of your existing HD drive.    Use Windows Drive Manager to view the sizes of the other parititons on your HD> If you need to make room, back up all your data and then delete from the current OS drive partition before cloning. http://www.laptopmag.com/articles/install-m2-ssd-lenovo-t440s Read this thread as well, it points out some important rules that must be followed when cloning so thaat OKR will work afterwards.https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Lenovo-P-Y-and-Z-series/Enable-onekey-recovery-after-HDD-to-SSD-cloning... Hope that helps, and good luck

I'm a bit reluctant to open up and dissect my laptop to check for any dust accumulation at this point, since everything has been running fine. This question came to mind since I saw that the filter at the bottom of my laptop was kinda caked in fine dust - wondered if the same was inside my laptop. A:Dust removal in Ideapad Y580

hi marshchen,

Welcome to Lenovo Community Forums!

That application can only minimized collection of dust in the Exhaust system of your Laptop.
Since the process of the vents is to get air fom the outside to pass through the heatsink . Dust collection cannot really be avoided.

One symptom of a fan and vent dust is that when the vents blow very hot and minimal air and the laptop is heating up more than usual.

A yearly cleaning would be ok.
You can refer to the Maintenance Manual of this model on how to open the cover and get to the heat sink.
You might also want to refresh and apply new Thermal paste to the Heat sink.

Just be careful on the plastic parts and also wear an anti static starp. If you're not comfortable doing this, You can opt to have a repair center do this.

Best Regards

Hey everyone, I have a question regarding my Ideapad Y580 and a strange sound error I have been experiencing over the past few months. Windows 8.1 Pro w/ Media Centeri7 3630QM8GB RAMGTX660M500GB Samsung EVO 840 Ok here's the sound issue.  After using a program such as Minecraft, VLC, Nightingale, the sound will completely cut out.  When checking volumes, sound will not register.  Oftentimes, the sound control panel will say the device is busy. Things I've tried so far:1) Disabled Realtek Digital Output2) Installed latest driver3) Checked current processes for remnants of programs using the sound card.. nothing. Sometimes when I have one of the programs open, for example playing minecraft, when I start a video in VLC, there will be no sound.  The only sound comes from the game. The only thing that really restores the audio is a full restart of the system.  Logging out and back in will not restore the sound.Has anyone experienced this issue?  Is there a way to fix this problem?  Thanks guys!

A:Ideapad Y580 sound cutting out

One suggestion..... have you tried uninstalling the audio driver, reboot the computer and then install a fresh copy of the driver.  If the previous driver installation was faulty, installing the latest driver may have not corrected the problem.

Alright, so early I tried to overclock my Nvidia GTX 660m Card, and it worked. the base clock speed is 835mhz, and the memory is 2500mhz. I OC'd the clock speed to 970mhz, and the memory to 3000mhz. It all worked fine, and boosted my gaming framerate quite a bit in PlanetSide 2 and Skyrim. ( I used NvidiaInspector to overclock, btw.) I went back to the overclocking interface, and accidentally set the memory rate to around +1300mhz. I then, without realizing, clicked on set OC settings, and it crashed my card. It rebooted, but now whenever I go into Nvidia Inspector to check my clock/mem speed, they're both set on 405mhz while idle or if there's a high load on my card. It's been stuck like this for a few hours, and I've tried several tweaks to fix it, including a reboot, rolling back the drivers, and then reinstalling the drivers, etc., with no resolve. I really need some help, as this is affecting my gaming horribly, and I'm getting terrible framerates. Please give suggestions/fixes as quickly as possible!

Thanks,

I've been using this laptop for around a year or so now, and it's worked perfectly up until this point in time.  The issue that I'm currently having is entirely mechanical. At the moment, my keyboard is intact and works just fine. However, if I press a key, (mainly the 'e' key) off-center, it pops the entire key up and I have to click it into place. It's not life-threatening or crucial to the machine's function, but when I am busy typing papers or lesson plans, having a key on the most constantly used vowel key continually pop up really puts a dampener in things. I've taken the key out and have tried to click it back in. While I can't see what's going on (given that there's a key in the way!), I can most certainly feel it clicking into place twice, both clicks stemming from the right side of the 'e' key. It seems that, to the best of my knowledge, only two out of four prongs that are meant to keep the key in place and in line are actually snapping and holding the key down. Whenever I type off-center and to the right, the entire left side of the key snaps up and must be pushed back into place. I'm wondering if there's anything I can or should do. Given that I've had my machine for over a year now, I'm unsure if my warranty still covers it (speaking of, is there a way to check warranty status online?). Please, if anyone has any advice on how to fix or replace a busted key/keyboard, please, let me know!

A:Lenovo Ideapad Y580 - Keyboard Issue

A replacement keyboard (chicony, oki, or dafon are the makers - be sure to look for the manufacturer label and p/n right below the lenovo p/n on the back to get a genuine keyboard) would make a good spares, they are about $30 on ebay. I replaced a broken key on a few different laptops but much prefer to swap out the entire keyboard.  Once a single key goes bad it's likely that more keys will start to fail (note that 'e' is perhaps the most commonly used key on your keyboard because it's the most popular vowel.  Other popular keys like 't' might be failing sometime soon).  So I would suggest you buy a spare keyboard and save it until you can't live without it, the procedure to replace the keyboard is a 10 minute swap. If you want to replace a key, a sharp tipped (xacto-style) knife blade, and a loupe (magnifying lens) are important accessories.  Buy from a reputable site which has good instructions ( http://www.laptopkey.com/ ).  Unfortunately, the key and hinge are manufacturer-specific (OKI, Chicony, Dafon, see above) so you will need to determine it from the guide on www.laptopkey.com.  When I fixed our Acer c720 I also used needlenose pliers to bend a metal tab back into place, the key hinge wasn't seating correctly because the metal tab had bent and was open too wide.  The Acer c720 has a nightmare keyboard to replace with 75 different locking plastic tabs that bind it to the undersize of the palmrest, so i had little choi... Hi vector74 ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

Once you have the indication of a failing harddrive, ensure that you have backed up all files needed and that you have the product keys of your software as you would need to re activate it. Check if you can still create your recovery image .
Check your Mircosoft account for activated status and entitlement of the digital license for guarantee.

Factory image is on the original drive but since Windows 8 and Windows 10 image is easier to download with the needed drivers in the support site, then you don't need to worry since activation would be automatic as an OEM systemboard keeps it coded inside.

Hope this help answer your query.

A:Ideapad Y580 Black screen with cursor

Hi cablecons,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

We would need to isolate the the stage where it causes the issue.
Making the BIOS appear onscreen is a good sign that the sytemboard is functional and we can continue on possible issue with the harddrive or software/drivers.

Here is the hardware manual for parts removal guide.
To start, unplug the charger and remove the battery. Press and hold down the power button (12 seconds) to drain flea power. Connect the AC charger and press the One key recovery button (item6 page 71) and check how it goes.

This supposes to power on the laptop and shows Novo menu.

If same black screen then disconnect the charger and remove the harddrive, press the power button down for 12 seconds. and turn on using the same One key recovery button.

Update us how it goes.

My Y580 orginally displayed screen notifications for changes in NumLock and CapLock, but now only the status lights work.  How do we turn the screen notifications back on?  I don't know why it stopped working.

Hi, I have an IdeaPad Y580 with Windows 10 Pro. The battery is 10.8V, 72Wh, 6700mAh / 11.1V 6200 mAh. The battery indicator in Windows was showing something like "65% not charging" the whole time. I went to Lenovo's "Energy Management" tool and started "Battery Gauge Reset".The software said this will completely charge and discharge the battery and I should not use the laprop in the meantime, so I left it running the whole day. When I came back the machine was hanging: screen was dark, the keyboard did not respond. The power button was lit up, but did not react on normal push. I pushed it longer for a forced shutdown and voila. The laptop is now dead. It does not start. When I press the power button, the battery indicator LED blinks 3 times in orange and stops. The only way to start the laptop is to remove the battery, unplug the power supply from mains and shorten the mains lead to discharge any capacitors. Moreover, decided to measure the voltage coming out of the power supply with the battery in the laptop - the connecting leads i used went really hot within seconds and the voltage dropped from 19.5 to under 18.5V. I am not sure what is going on, but either the charging circuit or the battery is overloading the power supply. Any help?

grep wrote:The battery indicator in Windows was showing something like "65% not charging" the whole time. The display "nn%, not charging" is normal when the battery conservation mode has been activated.  The thinking is that the batteries in laptops which spend most of their time on mains power will have longer useful life if not kept at 100% charge all of the time. The value for "nn" seems to vary.  I have one version of the "Energy Management" application that uses "80" for "nn", whereas the current version of the app uses "60" for "nn".  So the value of "65" is not out of step with these values. I cannot offer you any advice to extricate yourself from the bad place where you now find yourself.  It needs someone with more knowledge than I.  Good luck. -- from CyberSimian in the UK

Hello, I have Lenovo Ideapad Y580, and I'm looking to buy a replacement battery and an AC adapter. Or any other battery models that work for Y580. Would someone be able link me where I can buy one that's made by Lenovo and ships to Canada? After countless searches I was able to find the AC adapter on here,  https://pcsupport.lenovo.com/ca/en/products/laptops-and-netbooks/ideapad-y-series-laptops/ideapad-y5... But I can't seem to purchase it. I've checked the forum prior asking the same thing and the products are no longer available. Laptop information:Battery: L11P6R01 (72WH 6700mAh 10.8V 6 Cell])AC Adapter: INPUT 100-240V~1.8A 50-60Hz, OUTPUT 19.5V 6.15AMachine Type Model: 209933U Thanks

So, my surface pro 3 started giving me blue screen of death errors and attempting to reboot automatically. I talked to Microsoft tech support and they gave me the instructions to make a USB recovery drive. But then, I got a new support tech and they had me do a "2 button reboot." This solved the problem for a while. But the errors started again.

Here is a list of the errors it gave me some multiple times:
IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL
PAGE_FAULT_IN_NONPAGED_AREA
MEMORY_MANAGEMENT
CRITICAL_PROCESS_DIED
SYSTEM_SERVICE_EXCEPTION
KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE
DRIVER_CURUPT_EXPOOL
ATTEMEPTED_WRITE_TO_READONLY_MEMORY
UNEXPECTED_CURNAL_MODE_TRAP

While I have attempted to totally factory reset the thing it would error out before I could get the recovery key in. Attempting to use the recovery USB only results in an error of error codes:
0xc0000098 or 0xc0000428. The window's directions for creating a recovery USB included downloading a "recovery image" specific to the Surface Pro 3 and moving it to a USB. But the following directions for creating the recovery drive required going through the control panel and using some built in recovery drive creation process BUT this process deletes all info on the USB drive including the recovery image. I had to create the drive on my work desktop, but there is details on the page saying things like "make sure this USB is only ever used with the Surface." Well it's tremendously late for that. Even more fun, I tri... Read more

A:Dell Inspiron 11 3000 stuck in Dell logo loop after system reset failed

I'm assuming the system is on windows 10....
I'd suggest you try to get system to boot into the Recovery Repairs screen. At the Dell logo screen, turn off your computer using the hard reset /power button. Keep turning the computer on and off until you see your PC booting into the Recovery Repairs Option screen, see image below. It should only take a few reboots.

Hey guys, I have a Lenovo Ideapad IdeaPad 100 14ibd - win10 and basically im planning on formatting my laptop to get rid of all the stuff/unknown files that are terribly slowing down my ram. But im still new to this process so im wondering if using Lenovo's Onekey recovery is a good thing but then i saw the Reset this PC feature of windows is another thing. My question is, what would be the more recommended thing i should do to get my laptop to its original state just like the new windows 10, or are there any difference within those  two?PS: I got my back up files all set from this laptop to my external hd already Thank you!

Heeeeeeeelp. My laptop went lagging while i was using it, so i restarted my laptop. After that, my laptop went into a mode that i have never experienced before. I clicked advanced setting, It made me choose either to restore it, reset it, and another one but i can't remember it. I chose the reset button, and currently it is stuck on RESET YOU PC PLEASE WAIT. And its taking a very long time. What can i do about it? I don't have my recovery disc or drive. I saved it before on a flash drive, unfortunately it died.. Heeeeeelp please.

A:Windows 8 stuck at reset your pc.

Hello Lenard, and welcome to Eight Forums.

By doing a "reset", you have started to do a factory reset of your laptop (if Windows 8 came preinstalled on it) to reinstall Windows 8 back to factory conditions.

If you have hard drive activity, then it would be best to wait and let it finish to avoid potentially messing up the installation.

Hope this helps for now,
Shawn

I have had the 720S14IKB for about a month now and have had to deal with many errors in the event viewer and BSODs in that time.  I just did a Windows reset to see if that might solve the problems, but looking at the event viewer before doing anything else did not inspire confidence. After having troubles with my PC for a year, and having a really bad problem with AVG blocking my internet, I decided to reset my computer. I got to the bit where it started installing windows, and it suddenly froze. I decided to give it a hard shutdown. After this, the computer gave me the error "The computer restarted unexpectedly or encountered an unexpected error. Windows Installation cannot proceed. To install windows, click OK to restart the computer, and then restart the installation." The only fix for this I could find involved pulling up Command Prompt with the hotkey Shift+F10. After multiple attempts and restarts, I find this just WILL NOT work. I've been told to use FN+Shift+F10, but I have no FN key. I'm hopelessly stuck and need some help here! I do not have the windows recovery disc anymore, as it would seem i've misplaced it. Thank you in advance!
