recording streaming audio without ambient sound

Q: recording streaming audio without ambient sound

I record a radio program with a program called DAK, so I am getting streaming audio. But, when I play it back to listen to after it has been recorded, I also get any sound made in the area where my computer is. That is, If I have the radio on while I'm recording, that gets recorded as well. What can I do to stop that?

Preferred Solution: recording streaming audio without ambient sound

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

First of all, I understand without being in some sort of perfectly quiet environment/home studio, nothing can be perfect.

That aside, I recently purchased a new USB condenser mic (cardoid) and it can pick up all sort of sounds from my keyboard typing, mouse clicks, and my PC fans. My PC is positioned about as far as it will go without pulling the plugs out. It might also be worth noting there are no speakers on my PC.

I've also read there is supposed to be a Microphone Boost in my recording settings as well as a Microphone Enhancements tab? There never has been, on any mic I've used on my PC. And it's been suggested that this might be a possible fix, but I'm sort of doubtful on that.

I've been thinking of investing in more audio equipment (shock mount, scissor arm, pop filter?) or perhaps returning it for a different mic altogether. But would this help me?

A:Eliminate ambient noise while recording? Missing audio settings?

The Mic boost feature will raise your mic recording level. You don't want to do that with a condenser mic. The mic you need depends on the type of recording you're doing. Something like a Shure SM58 is a nice industry standard vocal mic for less than a $100 and it won't pick up all the background noise like a condenser. Or if you're setting up a studio, Aurelex foam or carpeting in the room will make a huge difference.

Hi!

I want to record a radio program that runs for three hours nightly, from midnight to 3:00A.M. on the internet. The program is the classics from the "Golden Age of Radio" that I hope to copy for a senior in the hospital.

The plan is to record it as a low resolution MP3 (32 or 64 bit), burn it to a cd that would be played on a discman.

I know I have to purchase a recording program such as Total Recorder or Super MP3 Recorder.

I have tried the trial version of TR that allows only 40 seconds. It is hard to determine how large the file size of the would be. The instructions seem to be slanted more to song recording length, not three hours.

Before I buy I would like any some advice. Has anyone done this? Are there any recomendations?

Thanks

I've been trying to record music from music match jukebox. It sounds great from the speakers, but after recording and playback there's pops and clicks. I use dsl and goldwave for the recording. I use ctr-alt-del to turn everything off except systray and explorer. This is with win me. There still seems to be noise after using the pop and click remover in goldwave. Is there any way to make a clean recording? Thanks, Larry.

Hi - I have a RealTek HD sound card in my E-Machines desktop system (new). I'm trying to record streaming audio - basically I want to simply record what I'm hearing through my speakers. But when I try to choose that input, it doesn't seem to be there. My choices are CD Volume, FrontMic, Mic Volume, and Line Volume (see attached pic) - and FYI - I did scroll over to the right - no additional options there.

There is no "wave" or "stereo mix" input choice. Any of the available choices I've tried and they don't record the live audio that's playing on my system. Is there a plug-in or something that will allow me to do this? I just want to record the same stuff that I'm hearing. Help! Thanks -

I recently had a friend replace my computer, as it died. On my other computer, I had Audacity to record internet streaming audio, and to record spoken parts for my podcast show. When I had Audacity installed on my old computer, it had 4 options: Line-In, Microphone, Stereo, and Mono. I used the mono and stereo options to record streaming internet audio.
After installing Audacity on this computer, I only have the Line-In, and Microphone options. I have tried downloading other versions of Audacity, but it still only has the Line-In and Mic options no matter what version that I install. (I have version 1.2.6 of Audacity installed presently on my computer) The sound card is a SoundMax AudioESP. My friend says that he installed the lateest drivers for that sound card before he gave it to me. I am at a loss as to how to regain the stereo and mono options on Audacity, so I can record internet audio once again.

A:problems recording streaming audio with Audacity.

It's not Audacity, it's your sound card. It doesn't support the Advanced internal features for recording.
Go to the store and get a splitter. Plug it into your speaker port and run a jumper to your Line In from one of the splitter ports and plug your speakers into the other splitter port.
Configure Audacity to use the Line in as the Source device.

Greetings all, it has been awhile since I last posted, aside from my computers of which I have 4, I am also a long time audiophile, and have quite the collection of high end vintage stereo equipment. I have a friend who is more hard core about his sounds than I am.
I am fishing for opinions, I have bought a new ASUS lap top that I have a really good sound card and Graphics HDMI card installed. I also am an avid user of ITunes, and have found that their Lossless recordings are better than most of my CDs. I am also rather tired of playing one CD after another, so I recorded all my music, a little over 100gigs on 3 of my computers one being my new lap top. I also use ITunes Icloud service for storing my entire library including all my settings, and have used it to load up my laptop with all their lossless versions of all my music including what I bought from them.
I find the quality to be better than CDs, and better than what I hear on my tube CD player, while playing it from my computer files. My friend says that recorded music on a computer will degrade over time, and that a hard drive will not keep all files in one place, therefore the degrading of the information. He says that the new streaming services along with the new streaming players are far better. Herein lies the information I seek; Which is better, what are the opinions that the rest of you have, is computer recorded music better, or is streaming music on these new (very expensive) players better..., or is ther... A:Computer Harddrive recording or Streaming lossless audio, which is best?

Which is better depends on the source and the quality settings of the capture. A lossless copy of a CD and the actual CD should sound the SAME. If they do not, you have a player, configuration, or hardware issue. It doesn't matter if you are comparing CD's, ripped files from a CD, or streaming files (assuming all files are from the same source CD version).

Files stored on a computer do not "degrade over time". They will never change unless of course the HDD fails. So you either misunderstood what you friend was telling you, or he doesn't understand computers.

Am I missing something or is this not possible with Realtek HD Audio Manager?

A:Realtek HD Audio not recording sound from browser

I think you are referring to the 'Stereo Mix' audio device.

Try this:

Control Panel > Sound
go to the 'Recording' tab
Where it lists the recording devices, right click in an open area and make sure that "show disabled devices" is checked, and see if Stereo Mix pops up.

If it does, then right-click > Enable, and select that as device to record from.
If it does NOT, I'm both surprised and sorry to say that I can't help you with that.

Note: Stereo mix is the COMPLETE output of your computer, so that includes things like Skype, beeps, pings, Media Player and so on.

Hello.. I currently like my onboard sound card.. it has surround and many 1/8" in/out plugins.

However, I would like to professionaly record, acoustic guitar, vocals, with video also.

Im looking for a sound card solution where i can plug in directly a mic, and guitar and record with 0 latency and with effects too (chorus, reverb, echo etc...)

Does anyone know of a mid-range price solution, or has any experience in suggesting a good product for recording quality audio (want to get this going first) and then video?

The reason i mentioned my onboard sound card.. is becuase i would like to keep on using it, while also using the new recording card if i can.

Thanks,

A:Music audio recording and sound card question

I would recommend either the Presonus Firebox or the M-Audio Firewire 410. Both of these are firewire, and can be used on both your desktop and laptop, in case you want to go play live at a gig w/ your workstation. They also work perfectly for your home desktop recording studio.

I am personally going to be getting the M-Audio Firewire 410, as it allows Dolby DTS passthrough which I will be using as part of my home theatre system (coaxial into my reciever/amplifier).

As for using your onboard, I would recommend not. The firewire audio interface is going to be much lower latency. When using your onboard what you'll notice is a delay between when you play your guitar and when your computer spits it back out. This is your onboard audio "cheating" by processing your sound slower and playing it back later. For mp3's and stuff its fine, you won't notice anything, but in audio recording/playback environments its very annoying. I ran into this problem today using Ableton Live.

Both the Firebox and the Firewire 410 have at least enough outputs to power a basic quadrophonic system. The Firebox has better preamp/phantom power for mics and an overall better sound, but the Firewire 410 allows for more output channels, and also allows Dolby Digital DTS (digital theater surround) passthrough to hook up to your reciever, which is the reason why i choose this one over the Presonus.

Bottom line: they both cost around $260-$300, and are well worth the investment

Greetings,

I'm having the following problem: I can't seem to hear streaming audio in the embedded windows media player in firefox (or IE). I'm using IE 7.0 and Firefox 2.0. My current version of WMP is 11.xx, but the issue has been the same with 10.xx. The primary site I'm having the issue with is www.mlb.com.

This issue seems isolated with streaming audio. Now, the media player says I'm connected and streaming (timer increments), but I'm clearly am not getting any sound. Now, I'm getting sound from other applications and can get sound from Windows Media Player. I'm able to stream video/sound from sites like youtube. My settings are set as explained here (http://mlb.mlb.com/mlb/help/faq_technical.jsp#q4 ).

I'm using Windows XP Pro (SP 2) with a Creative Sound Blaster (Live, 24 Bit).

Any help would be appreciated,

So here's my problem

When I watch YouTube videos I get random stutters where the sound skips. The image doesn't seem to freeze though, just the sound

I also get issues with the sound streaming music online, where it pauses for a second and stutters even though it's not buffering.

When this happens, NT Kernel & System shoots up in task manager and uses more CPU than the browser. This by the way happens in every browser, IE, Chrome or Firefox.

It doesn't happen when playing music in iTunes or watching videos from my hard drive.

That being said I'm not posting about a buffering type stutter, I am aware of that and this is not it. This is like basically suddenly the computer has a big spike in memory or cpu usage and the video/sound clip stutters for a sec. But it happens often enough to be very annoying. In a 15 min YouTube clip it happened 10 times.

I have reinstalled my IDT High Definition Codec and my Intel HD Graphics 4000 driver, but still the problem persists.

Any thoughts of what I can do?

A:Sound stutters when streaming video or audio online.

Try this test: Start a Youtube video and immediately hit the pause button. Watch the movement of the red progress bar until it fully loads the video. This obviously eliminates any buffering issues if the problem is still there when you try to play the video this way. You might also want to do a speed test on you internet connection. Here are my results:

Now, I know you are convinced that it is absolutely not a buffering issue and you have done nice testing to that end; however, I would still try the tests as described above. Good luck.

I'm trying to use 2 demo streaming radio recording programs separately. I get an error message saying that I'm not connected to the internet when I am. My OS is Vista buisiness. I can browse, download & connect to streaming radio stations, but the recording programs can't connect to the internet. I'm using IE7.
Any ideas how I can fix this so that I can record streaming radio?

I have followed thoroughly various tutorials for setting up OBS for streaming. Initially I had set it up for Youtube, then switched to Twitch. This works fine. I have absolutely no complaint with that. Streaming out to these platforms is working as I would like.
This issue I'm experiencing is what I can best describe as a pulsing or jumping, about once per second when I play a file back that I have recorded (not streamed) with OBS.

The audio is flawless, no stuttering, nothing like that. Audio BR is at 160...

As I watch the status information in OBS as I am recording, I see no warning about overloaded encoder, the frame rates are where they are supposed to be, no dropped frames. everything should appear to be good. CPU load is unremarkable, again plenty of headroom. It doesn't seem to matter if I increase bit rate, decrease bit rate, CBR, VBR, increase or decrease framerate, or which software i use to view the output fine: VLC, WMP, whatever, there is this pulsing. Its just enough to be annoying. Its subtle, but it's there. And it doesn't matter which PC I play the file on ( I have a few I can test it with)

The computer running OBS is more than adequate for the task.

I have - in an effort to improve things - changed recording format, changed encoder, even the location to which I was saving it ( initially that was a network drive, but I change to an internal SSD for test purposes) I can not get rid of this.

This is just for a little pet project, I ... Read more

Pretty self explanatory- my specs are on my profile and I'm including the zip file as per usual BSOD post.

My computer runs the game fine and can even handle media on my second monitor during gaming. I've rarely had issues streaming / recording / watching stuff and gaming simultaneously - I've been having all kinds of issues as of late and while I can run the game without issues at all - as soon as OBS comes into the picture I get BSOD'd.

The reason I'm making this post rather than accepting the limitation of a weaker graphics card (outside of the BSOD) is that on day one I was able to stream and record simultaneously for hours on end - and even earlier points throughout the week I've had no problems.

However lately while toning everything down and running less background stuff I still crash much harder than I should. Earlier I tried to record 5 minutes of content and my system crashed hard, but hours prior I'd recorded a solid 2 hours without break.

I appreciate any input and will give any info that I missed - thanks for taking the time guys.

Hi there!

I am trying to record internet radio as it is streaming online (Itunes radio). I am using recording software: Audacity on my laptop, which is a Lenovo U450 ideapad. However each time I record, I am picking up the sound of the laptop microphone as well, i.e. I canít just record the sound of the streaming music; I record all the other sounds in the room as well! The same thing happens with the 'Sound Recorder' software on the laptop. I have tried changing some settings on audacity ie trying to use different microphone inputs. It gives me the option to use:

MME Microsoft Sound Mapper Ė Input
MME Realtek High Definition
Windows Direct Sound Primary Capture Driver
Windows Direct Sound microphone (Realtek High Definition)

However all these currently pick up the laptop microphone ie my speaking as well as the music. I tried using an older version of Audacity but that didnít work. Do you have any ideas around it please? Maybe you can you tell me how to disable the main laptop microphone so it just picks up whatís playing? I used to be able to do this perfectly on my pc. Thank you very much for trying!

Yours,

Lucy

I'm sorry, but the recording of streaming music, even music from a radio, is illegal. We won't be able to help you with that.

Hello. I am EpicallyAWSM.

Alright before I explain, I must tell you that I WAS able to record audio previously.

I'm having a problem while recording audio with Fraps (a game video-recording software). Previously, I was unable to find the Stereo Mix at all, until I found the Drivers CD that came with my computer.

After I installed the driver, I tested it on a few different games, but the result was still the same: no audio in my recorded files. I have double-checked, and the volume for Stereo Mix is maxed, and it is set to the default recording device. I have spent countless hours trying to find a fix for this problem, so I decided to file it in myself.

One thing though, is that I'm aware my sound card driver is a little out of date, but I am unable to update it because I get an error while running the setup file. My sound card is "Realtek High Definition Audio Card" - that's all I know about it.

I'm sure my version of Fraps is capable of recording this audio, because I was able to do so before. Suddenly though I was unable to record audio and I had a problem with sound channels in Game Maker 8 (problem I will be asking in the Game Maker forum). I am unsure what to do. Please do not give me the answers I have been seeing for the past week (Check Show All Devices, make sure your volume is maxed, etc.)

Thank you
EpicallyAWSM

Are you able to record in any other program, other than fraps? Download the free Audacity recording program and try recording with it.

Hello everyone. I am using a old-ish Toshiba laptop with Windows Vista. So, every time I'm playing songs on YouTube, then open FL Studio 10, FLS 10 won't let me play or record any audio. When I look at the "ASIO4ALL" box it has A little red "X" on audio output(I use "Realtek HD Audio" if that helps). Now when I stop the internet audio/YouTube and restart FLS 10, the little red "X" is gone and all the sound works... I was wondering how to play Internet audio while playing or recording audio on FL Studio 10 is there something I can tweak with the laptop audio or some better sound program I can download free(or not free)and not have to get a new sound card??? Thank you for your time. Peace.

A:How to play Internet audio while playing or recording audio on FL Studio 10

Please use the font I've changed your post to above. Otherwise, apart from hurting the eyes of the reader, you'll seem to be like shouting.

Recording from youtube, be it whole clips or the audio track, is against youtube's TOS.

Therefore closing this since we cannot help.

When I live steam video in Windows 8/Chrome, using Adobe Flash, the audio portion is silenced each time I receive an audio prompt from my system. When I say "audio prompt" I mean a beep that I believe provides some sort of notification. The video continues, but all sound disappears for a few minutes when it then reappears. I have a dual boot system. The problem only exists in Windows 8. In Windows 7 I do not have this problem. My Chrome is fully updated, which means, I believe, that my Adobe Flash is also current. I disabled (or at least attempted to disable) audio alerts in Windows 8 and in Outlook 2007 and GMail (my email clients), but the audio alerts persist as do the disruptions of Java Live streaming audio. Any ideas or suggestions for fixing this problem - either by disabling all audio prompts or solving the problem of sound disruption in Java Live Streaming.
