I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I need to put the Windows OS, that means Windows Boot Manager in BIOS at Boot option 2, but in this case it does not boot.
I need to put at boot position 1 PXE boot and if that fails boot from Boot option 2 (Windows). How could I do that?
My motherboard is Gigabyte GA-Z97P-D3.

Thank you!

I have noticed that my computer (and many others) have an option called "PCI-LAN" or similar in the BIOS boot menu (when I press F8 I get the option to choose boot device, HDD, CD, USB and PCI-LAN).

I'm just curious, what is this for, and how could I use it?

A:LAN boot option in BIOS

Not sure about PCI-LAN, sounds like a NIC.
Are you referring to PXE booting?
That is where you set up an image on a server that people can boot from without having the OS actually on their hard drive.

I have an old system running Windows XP and am wanting to perform a re installation of XP. Unfortunately I am unable to boot from the CD (no CD Rom Option in the Bios) for some reason and the system won't let me boot from my Flash Drive. Is there any other way to install XP without these two options. It was booting from a CD yesterday, but today it won't work. I checked the connections and they seem to be fine. I removed the battery, but that did not help. I tried another CD drive, same result. The system had a bad log log off thing going on which was caused by Internet Security 2010. I removed the virus by putting the old hard drive in another PC. Without thinking I tried to do a repair install using a Dell Home re installation disk, and got half way through and it kept asking me for a audio driver. I was stuck and then realized I should not be using this disk as The system was pre built and not a Dell. Please Help. Thanks

Hello After I recieved my Y50-70, I tried to install a linux partition for my work. I found how to activte USB boot on UEFI, but after few unsuccessful tries on different disk images, the USB boot option disappeared in the BIOS. I tried in legacy mode, it failed to boot (even if I was sure this one should not have failed), and now the USB boot option in legacy mode disappeared too. I've tried every configration of the BIOS (security enabled or disabled, UEFI or legacy, USB enabled or disabled ...) and I've never seen the USB boot options anymore. I've tried both "factory" and "setup" BIOS reset, USB boot option is still absent. I've tried to flash my BIOS from Lenovo official support (http://support.lenovo.com/fr/fr/products/Laptops-and-netbooks/Lenovo-Y-Series-laptops/Y50-70-Noteboo...), but the version being the same it does not want to. I've read that advanced BIOS settings are disabled in this laptop, and there's no CD player, so I'm out of options now. How can I boot on USB key and setup my computer for my work ? Thank you

I don't have the option in windows to boot back into the UEFI setup. In my motherboard bios setup there is an option which allows for the selection of UEFI, Legacy and UEFI or Legacy, When I change this to UEFI my pc wont' boot and the error message is that no UEFI partition was found.

I think it may have been deleted when I installed Windows 8.1 initially because i had to convert from MBR to GPT. Or so i read on one of the forums.

Is it possible to restore my UEFI partition so that I can use windows to enter the bios setup. I've had the boot on ultra fast and it took me a week to get into the bios without using the delete key. I had to use Gigabyte utilities which include drivers that crash windows. So i want to remove them again ASAP.

Any help appreciated.

A:UEFI option instead of Bios boot

Well to get back into UEFI mode you will have to reinstall in UEFI mode there is no other way, Sounds like some how your OS got converted to MBR so It may not boot either MBR or UEFI but you can't convert back to UEFI you have to Reinstall. If you have data on that disk you need to recover you can pull the drive and hook it up USB to another computer and recover your Data.

In reference to an older Hewlett Packard that was given to my mother. Specs 64 MB RAM, 667MHz Celeron, Win2K currently installed. Im trying to make it operable to her, but Im having issues.

Maybe Im confused, but it was my understanding that to reformat, you had to create a DOS boot disk (in windows there is an option for this?), change the BIOS settings to boot from floppy, and then Fdisk, partition, and reload windows.

Ive created a boot disk, but number one the option in BIOS reads "removable devices" rather than "Legacy Floppy" as it does on this PC. (Last BIOS update was in 00) After I choose "removable devices", I reboot and I get the message "Disk I/O Error, replace and strike any key to continue".

I was also under the impression that WinXP is a bootable CD, therefore if you choose to boot from the CDRom you should be able to use the recovery console to reformat and reload. I have a burnt copy of WinXP with a key that I used to format this PC and it worked fine. However, this time when I boot from the CD I simply get the message "Press any key to Boot from CD.." When I do so, nothing happens.

Help anyone? What am I doing wrong?
Thanks a bunch.

The title explains most of it, I'm not sure where to start, new to the forums, and somewhat experienced with computers.

I'm in AHCI mode..when I restart computer, "DEL" to go into BIOS mode, I go to boot option #1 and boot option #2 and I don't see Samsung SSD 850 PRO 256GB ATA Device. What happened was, I took it to a tech to install the SSD and he added it to the computer physically, installed programs or whatever he did, I got it back and I tried to enable ACHI mode, kept getting blue screen, so I decided to click "repair windows installation" and...it system restored to the point where it's as if he just placed an SSD in the computer and said "here you go" I tried reinstalling it myself, reformatted windows, added windows to SSD. I'm loaded from SSD manually.

Hope someone knows how to fix this..I've wasted $70 for the installation, rather try to fix this myself (support from the internet) for future references. Thanks.
Edit: I've been up until 7am since 12/24/14. So yes, I've been googling for hours.

I have a NGFF M.2 SSD installed in the laptop with windows 10 already installed on it. I can boot to the OS manually by selecting "Boot from EFI File" , It shows the m.2 drive there as a huge string of characters, select it, and then navigate to EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi If I just leave the computer to boot by itself, it doesn't read the m.2 as a possible bootable option, and it says no OS installed. There are no boot order options to move up that work either. There is a custom boot option where i can type in my own path, but simply putting /EFI/Boot/bootx64.efi does nothing. It seems I need to somehow specify the device in this custom boot option, but I have no idea what to type in to point it to the m.2. Anyone have experience with this or have any ideas? As a side note, if I do a fresh OS install to the m.2 while there is also a sata device installed, it automatically creates its own partition during the install on the sata device, and it boots fine having that pointed to my SSD in some way, but I often change out my storage drives and often don't have one installed at all. I need this to work with just an M.2 drive installed.

I am interested in buying a Plextor PCIe SSD M6e(A) Black for a performance upgrade.

I emailed Plextor support with a system compatibility question & they replied within 20 minutes.

He stated: "Check your boards bios to see if it has CSM and that it is enabled
because you will need this feature enabled to boot from a PCIe drive."

I have a ECS A890GXM-A v2.0 mobo. details at:
ECS > A890GXM-A (V2.0)

and it does have a PCIe x4 slot (Gen2, PCI v2.0 compliant) but does not have a UEFI BIOS nor can I find any reference to Compatibility Support Module (CSM). Does this mean I cannot use a SSD with a PCIe connection or are there work-arounds, hotfix's, etc. to make this work? I have read that Windows 7 is a little finicky when it comes to SSD PCIe connections/drivers and such. Thanks!

I was working on a client's HP 15 Touchscreen and needed to boot a flash drive to perform a virus scan. It originally had Windows 8.1 instaled but had been force-upgraded to Windows 10. When I enabled Legacy Support it automagically disabled Secure Boot. I set the UEFI boot order to USB, OSD then HDD. I set the Legacy boot order to USB, OSD then HDD. Saved and exited. Laptop restarted and stopped dead, nothing but a gray screen. Fan runs but HDD is silent. Nothing on the screen, not even a blinking cursor. Power off, pull battery, disconnect AC, drain the capacitors, attach AC and boot. Same result. Power off/on and tap ESC, same result. Repeat but tap F10, same result. Connect external monitor, no video. Recover BIOS and boots perfectly from HDD, still no Legacy support. Tried just disabling Secure Boot only but it automagically enabled Legacy, and disabling Legacy automagically enabled Secure Boot. I've scoured the internet and this forum. Saw one topic with exacly the same problem but with no resolution. I no longer have the laptop so cannot give more info or do further tests. Does anyone know why enabling Legacy and disabling Secure Boot would cause this? Need an answer 'cuz I'm pretty sure this is going to be a problem in the near-future. Thanks!

Hi there, Yuvaraj ?

Thank you for writing in to the Lenovo Forum - happy to have you here today.

Power down the machine, remove the AC adapter and battery.
Hold the power button for 30secs and reconnect the AC adapter only then turn the computer ON.

If the machine still doesn't power up normally and boot into Windows then it's likely that something went wrong (could be a bad BIOS flash or an internal component might have gone defective during or after the BIOS update).
Also, check the cable to the SSD and the system board.

Last resort would be, issue with motherboard. I would recommend you to contact Lenovo service center and report your findings. For more details, Schedule a Call-back for faster support.

Hi everybody, I saw many of problems like mine there, but I can't still do anything after several attempts to solve that.  It started two weeks ago.. I did cleaned my hdd, then to keep my device lil a bit update I have updated few drivers. First day, it was able to boot up after 10-15 attempts. (Holding down the power button, disc. battery, ac, reconnect and power button again). Since that time I was unable to get to the BIOS, set Boot order, and I couldn't see even the splash screen. Several days it did the same and the attempts grew up.  Last time it was able to launch, its about 4 days ago, I was watching, film then I felt asleep. When I woke up in the morning, the screen wasn't black but still slighty light(not off, fans were working, cooler was fine). Since that moment I couldn't boot it anymore. I tried reseting CMOS battery, tried to flash bios by using flash disk and Fn+R (laptop did different thing but after 15secs it has turned off).. I think it is frozen BIOS but I haven't clue what to do when I can't simply set the boot order.  Maybe I am wrong and the problem is only in the motherboard. Novo button works but everything I choose there, it ending by black screen again.  Thanks for help, maybe for any solutions how to fix this. I am prepared to buy another motherboard, but if I would be able to repair it on my own, I would happy. Thanks,Jakub.

So I tried updating the BIOS on my Lenovo M92p desktop using Lenovo System Update program. Unfortunately, it didnt work and i ended up with a blank screen. I waited for about 10 minutes and still nothing happened. I decided to hold the power button and had it shut off. After multiple power ons, still no POST. I read the HMM and the section about BIOS boot block recovery. It said I needed to burn an iso file to a CD and also move the CMOS jumper to pins 2 & 3. Since I dont have a cd, I put the bios flash package on a usb drive instead, plugged it into pc, and also moved CMOS jumper to 2 & 3. Computer turns on and there are two beeps. No display. Does this mean I will have to get a CD?

What format was the USB drive?  Try using FAT32.  Failing that, yes, get a CD.
