New X1 Carbon 5 Gen damaged by Lenovo Field Technican during warranty repair

Q: New X1 Carbon 5 Gen damaged by Lenovo Field Technican during warranty repair

My X1 Carbon 5 Gen was bought about two weeks. After one week, it has found Lib Switch problem with blank screen. I reported to Sydney Services Centre for warranty repair. They sent the Field Technician onsite to repair the X1 Carbon. Without any diagnostic, the Technician roughly peeled off the Bezel of the LCD FRU and then replaced the Glass of the LCD., The Lib Switch problem did not solve, but the LCD FRU (Assembly Panel) is damaged without loosen Bezel. I asked the Technician why he damaged the LCD FRU instead of replacing the whole FRU (thus, my orginial LCD FRU can be recoverable). He admitted that it is very unprofessional, but he just carried out the instruction order from Sydney Services Centre. I can complain to Sydney Service Centre as he cannot do anything to recover the original fitting of the LCD FRU. I call Sydney Service Centre requesting the replacement of the damaged LCD FRU. Their reply is that the Technician suggest just replacement of the Bezel sheet with his manual fitting. I will not accept my new X1 Carbon?s LCD FRU being damaged and remediated with manual fitting. It is very unprofessional that the replacement is not the whole LCD FRU, and damage my original LCD FRU for glass replacement. I am going to lodge the complaint against Sydney Services through ACCC if they refuse to recover my LCD FRU with new LCD FRU.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

The laptop still fails the memory extended diagnostics! After coming back from QSL in Sydney Australia for warranty repair. QSL refuse to talk diectly so I'm faced with phone tech support again. QSL Silverwater Sydney, seemed to be hopeless in fixing memory issues and checking, I'm quickly losing faith in recommending Leneovo as there after sales service seems to be pretty poor.

I'm trying to ascertain the warranty status of my Lenovo X1 Carbon, which was purchased second hand recently here in the UK. Inputting the serial number into the online system suggests that the machine still has warranty until 28/01/2019. But since I am not the original owner, will I still be covered by this warranty? I had thought that the warranty goes with the machine, until checking over the phone earlier today, when the agent suggested that I would need the original invoice/proof of purchase to be covered by the warranty. I had not thought that this was the case, and that I did not need documentation to claim the warranty. Could someone clarify this issue for me please? I have been trying to contact Lenovo by phone again for confirmation but their system appears to be down (I just get cut off every time).

Hello everybody,Not sure if anybody experienced similar problem but it extremely frustratingI have reported to official lenovo service in Zagreb (Croatia) that keys "s" and "." have stopped working few days ago and that I have a some kind of stain/spot on my screen which is not on the surface but inside My laptop was in the service shop for a week and conclusion was that there must have happen some kind of spill over the laptop since there is some oxidation on usb ports (when you open the casing) and since I have never ever spilled anything on it it seem Lenovo is trying to refuse warranty condition making up stories jut to avoid reponsibilityI have seen those pictures and there you can barely see some kind of thin white film only on usb port (which is functioning normaly) but everyhing else is normal and intact In service shop they were also surprised that Lenovo is not accepting warranty terms especially when taking in consideration that I came there because of screen and the faulty keys which are on the opposite side of keyboard and according to the pictures Lenovo team has seen they are claiming this theory about oxidation on usb which is not even close to any of these keys and everything else around it is intact and usb port is functioning normaly I have hired an official legal expert to check my laptop and to prove that there was no spill (because the damage would be extremely noticable) and he will make an official conclusion about the situation bec... I just want to describe my experience about a problem i had with my Y700 laptop around one year or so back. I had a problem where my laptop battery will not accurately show the percentage, so i would never know when the laptop will turn off due to the battery being dead. I went to Lenovo Support for this issue. I remember calling multiple times trying to resolve this issue and became very frustrating for me. It ended up that Support thought I need my laptop battery to be replaced entirely. So i sent in my laptop with their instructions. This entire process including the repair took longer than was appropriate. When i got my laptop back, i found that there was a dent in the front of my laptop where the bottom connected with the keyboard. The dent caused gap where it seems like things could get into the interior of the laptop. At the time, I could not send the laptop back again to repair the damage because I was worried about it taking a long time to repair. I also needed to use it as i am still a student in school. Right now it is already too late for me to do anything as my warranty has already expired and because of this unsatisfactory experience with the Support and repair I do not trust that a proper repair will be done. This is a record of my experience if anyone cares to read it. Thank you

Having continuing problems with the Yoga 710-11 that is now out of warranty. Techical support advises that I must seek service from a local vendor/service location and the machine can no longer be returned to a Lenovo Depot Repair Center. I have spoken to a local vendor who said he would be able to have it serviced by Lenovo. Is that my only option for repair service at this time? Seems strange that I can not deal with the Lenovo Depot Repair Center as I have in the past with or with the warranty. Not really the type of service I expected from a former IBM Company.

It all happens in Poland, but I am curious as to how customers are treated by Lenovo in other countries.  The story in short: An E31-70 laptop bought 5 July 2017, end of June - does not open due to broken hinge. the shop/service where I have bought the laptop contacts the customer support only to get back reply that I must have act with undue force thus the problem. But there are no traces of "undue force" treatment to the exterior, so upon pointing that out the support changes the tune and says that it is a "secondary failure" not under the warrranty because I should have reported immediately after the first signs that something is wrong. Since the first sign was that day, this is BS, again I point it out but unfortunately in their third communication Lenovo ultimately refuses to repair under warranty. Since I had to open the laptop pretty soon having data on hard disk which I had to access (work deadline), I decided to have my service conduct the repairs and contacted the customer rights advisor. According to her instructions I sent a request for reimbursement after having received the invoice. Lenovo refused again. So I am forced to enter judicial proceedings. I have heard that Lenovo does not try to escape responsibility for shoddy products in such blatant way in other countries. If anyone from the Lenovo is reading this sad story, I would be interested to hear their opinion...Z... I bought a Lenovo Flex 5 14" and at first really enjoyed the product, but it quickly had screen flickering issues. Thankfully, it was still in warranty, so I shipped it back and the LCD was replaced. However, the testing must not have been very rigorous at all because after a while, it still has the same flickering issue. The root cause analysis was incomplete, the problem was not completely fixed, and now my device is out of warranty. I tried to contact Lenovo months back, but because my device was out of warranty, I couldn't get through. Now I really need to use this laptop again and it is basically useless without an external monitor. I am very disatisfied with the level of service received.

I am writing this message in order to inform the Lenovo English Community about Lenovo Turkey's unjust and unlawful policies that neglect customer satisfaction and violate Turkish Consumer Rights Law. 3 weeks ago, I bought a brand new Lenovo Yoga 720, with the financial support of my university's scientific research projects office. But, once I opened the original case of my brand new laptop, I realized that there is a tiny crack on the bottom-left end of the LCD beneath the touch screen (see the attached picture). Afterwards, I contacted Lenovo Turkey Customer Service, and sent my laptop to them for free service. After initial inspection, however, they asked me to pay 1.092,92 TRY (approximately $290) for repair service. I told them that they can not ask for money for this service, because it is a defective good and according to national conumer rights law they  (as the producer/exporter of the good) are obliged to replace the defective good or repair it for free.  In response, they unlawfully denied my demands and claimed that the crack is a result of user error. But when I asked them to prove their claim, they couldn't. Because, as you my guess, there is no trace of damage or usage on the laptop that may have caused such crack! Although I sent my complaints to Lenovo Turkey by both e-mail and post, they did not reply. Now, I will use my legal rights before Turkish authorities to claim a replace or free repair serv... Read more

The 2-month old X1 Carbon 6th generation running W10 (type 20KH) ... purchased from Lenovo... with 3 year depot and 3 year accidental... and it worked fine. Until at 2 months it wouldn't charge, wouldn't reliably control the displays (blinking on and off) like many on this forum have described. After verifying it wasn't the thunderbolt dock (we have 3 in our family) it became clear that something was seriously wrong with the power supply and/or power control... and started a ticket with Lenovo. And then it wouldn't even turn on, probably an exhausted battery... and remember that it wouldn't charge (or at least wouldn't display the charging icon in the system tray). So it was a brick. No way to turn it on. So Lenovo sent a box, and we sent it in. SSD and all. 13 days later they sent it back, with a single piece of paper that indicated the motherboard had been replaced. The delay was due to a 'part' which one can assume was the motherboard. Now we can't boot windows. Bitlocker is preventing any access. Multiple calls to Lenovo to find out what the key is... leads to circular logic that we must get it from Microsoft. Well since we didn't encrypt it, and didn't even know what Bitlocker was prior to this incident, of course we didn't 'save' a copy of a key that we never knew we had.  Yes, there is a microsoft 365 office install (or was) on this W10, but logging into the microsoft account doesn't reveal a key. In fact, there is no 'Manage Bit... Read more

Good afternoon. My screen started freezing with colored stripes after a reboot (just closed and opened the screen). At first the store where I bought it, they said It could be a bad connection between the screen and motherboard. If I keep some pressure just like when you open the screen, it works almost just fine (just a little flickering) Now they said something is broken, and needs to be replaced. Also, they said warranty doesn't cover this. (a new full hd screen costs over 170?...) It definitely wasn't an accident, just caused by normal use... So, I'm wondering if the warranty really covers this? (whoever owns a ideapad 700 knows the screen isn't really that robust)The laptop is still in the 2 years warranty of Lenovo. Best regards,Pedro

I just recently got my 6th Thinkpad, a 4th Gen X1 Carbon. Out of the box the left mouse button did not feel right, it would not click properly. So I took it off to see that the fragile plastic that holds it in place was completely smashed so that it would not operate properly. I called tech support and they claimed they would send me a replacment piece immediately so that I could place it on myself and be happily on my way. Now a week later I have recieved nothing and I call back and they act like they have no idea what I'm talking about, and tell me I will have to send the machine in to be fixed.  It is so frustrating that they sent it from the factory with this issue, but to screw up the support like this makes it so much worse.  I have been a very satisfied Thinkpad customer over the years, but this really has me thinking about finding a new brand. Rant over. Thanks

I refer to another similar complain post, I just met a similar problem with lenovo bad screen quality and poor customer service. I bought Thinkpad T580 laptop last year and used in a  normal  environment (always on the desk in my home). One day I found there is a 2x2cm light/white spot on the screen bottom area, which can only be observed when the screen background is in white color. Lenovo told me that it's cased by outside pressure  and they are not covering my screen replacement  under warranty. I own another thinkpad x260 which use in my daily and oversea business travel for over three years and everything is still fine. That's why I purchase T580 for my home use. It is disppointing  that Lenovo can  not  stand behind their product and stand behind their promise to customers (warranty).  Lenovo advertises the Thinkpad T580 as following on their webside: "We test ThinkPads against 12 military-grade requirements and more than 200 quality checks to ensure they run in extreme conditions. From the arctic wilderness to desert dust storms, from zero-gravity to spills and drops, you can trust your T Series device to handle whatever life throws your way." I disgree with their statement and  not going to pay ~$295 parts+ ~30 labour total around 325 to fix my screen. Very disapointed with Lenovo quality and customer service, I won't consider Lenovo again if there is another choice.

Will my laptop be covered under warranty in India too without any further add-ons? 2.) If I purchase a 3 year warranty upgrade with 'onsite support' in the US, will I have on-site service for 3 years in India as well?

I know that usually Thinkpad laptops have more than 1 year warranty. However I found this x1 carbon for sale (second hand) that only had 6 months. SN (Serial Number) is R90FJ1TQ. On lenovo website, after inserting the above SN, it says that the warranty expired and that "This product has a 6 month limited warranty and is entitled to parts, labor and carry-in repair service." So why only 6 months? I am totally disappointed in Lenovo's customer support. My lenovo 710s was bought less than 1 year ago (as of 10/6/2017, when I sent it in for repairs) and had 2 years warranty (1+1 year of extended warranty). I sent my laptop for repair due to a white spot issue on the monitor, affecting viewing of webpages and videos. However, the laptop was returned after 3 weeks without any fixes/repairs, as Lenovo claimed that it was a cosmetic issue. I wrote a message on their customer care website on 3/7/2017. However, they ignored me and there was no reply to date.  I thought Lenovo is a reliable and popular brand. However, it turned out to be a horrible decision, much to my dismay!

Hi folks, It has been about 10-11 months since I bought my X1 Carbon 3rd gen. (2015), with 512GB SSD. It comes with ThinkPlus warranty, which says battery is also covered for 3 years.A month back, my battery started getting discharged very quickly when not on AC power. I checked the the Lenovo app, which says: "The battery is in poor condition"."The battery can only store 52.9% of its original full charge capacity". Its "Design Capacity" is 50.22Wh, but now its Full Charge capacity is about 26-27Wh! Cycle count is 288. I've never used any other AC adapter, except the original that came with it.Questions:1. Is it covered under warranty? This degradation is not normal and I believe there's a replacement I can do. 2. Warranty page for my serial number on Lenovo's site lists 3 warranties:i. 3 year limited warrantyii. 3 year ThinkPlus warranty and "The battery is also covered for 3 years". iii. "The battery included within this product is entitled to a 1 year on-site warranty. Please note that this may differ from the warranty of the base product itself." So, is my battery covered for 3 years OR 1 year?

I have had an HP Envy 14-1110nr for just under a year now and suddenly it has been giving me problems the last few weeks. It started with a couple of hangs or random crashes over the first week. After 2 or 3 of those, the computer simply wouldn't start up. Every time I would turn the laptop on, it would get to a certain part, give me the following error and then restart, over and over.

"File:\boot\BCD Status: 0xc00000e9 unexpected I/O error has occurred?

Nothing seemed to be working, and then finally last night I started getting errors from just about everything saying that my HDD was rapidly failing.
SMART HDD Error 301
Intel Rapid Storage Technology gives me a warning saying something is wrong with the HDD.
Microsoft also gave me an error saying that the HDD is at risk and to back up my files immediately.

After doing one final test I was able to get the boot problem solved, at least it seems to be fixed for now but the errors are persisting. Could all of the errors that I'm getting because of that boot or is the drive really broken? Chkdsk shows absolutely nothing wrong with the drive at all, no bad sectors, nothing. Could it have something to do with the boot error that I was getting before or is it likely really damaged?

The HDD in question is a Samsung HM640JJ 640GB. Apparently they have a pretty short shelf life but not less than a year.

A:Laptop HDD damaged beyond repair?

If you get into the Bios setup which should be done when the HP logo appears by pressing F10 usually. The proper key should appear on the screen at start up along with other options. The newer HPs have a built-in hard drive Diagnostics you can run.

You do need to find out if it is the hard drive or something else.

A:How to repair damaged ZIP file?

You can repair your corrupt ZIP file manually. It is not a big process, it involves very easy steps. The steps are:
Open WinZIP application
1. Click on file, and then select open
2. A find archive window will be opened, select corrupt rar file from your system
3. Click on open button
4. Press Alt+R
5. Repairing File Name.rar will be opened
6. Click on browse to save repaired file at desired location
7. Check Treat the corrupt archive as ZIP box, and then click OK
8. After corrupt RAR archive is repaired, click on close.
If your file is highly corrupted and you need to use software then you can use additional software. You can use recovery toolbox for ZIP.
You can find it here http://goo.gl/pYF63J

hi, i left my computer on while at work only to come back to seeing that win 8 pro had had to stop (it was on screen telling me this and that i needed to restart - a nice bsod perhaps?). i restarted and it seemed to take forever to load up with loooonnnggg breaks in between screens changing and not showing my dekstop shortcuts.

i ended up loading up my win 8 install disc and going to a command prompt to run chkdsk /b /r. this came up with lots of sectors where chkdsk needed to replace bad sectors or something (where it utilises spare sectors instead - familiar with this?). so i let it finish but at the end it said it couldn't save the log file (piece of crap!) and i lost the visible report on screen so i have no way of knowing what files were affected by these errors!!!!

i've done an sfc and it checked out fine (apparently). altho i don't know if windows is clever enough to know that files may be damaged or if it only checks that they are present? - the latter not being very helpful.

so at the moment i am verifying individual steam games ( quite a few are reporting dodgy files and then redownloading them). is there a way to batch verify all games? (it would make sense for steam to implement!)

i have quite a few games that aren't steam activated so that makes it very hard to verify the files.

i have got another HD to use as a backup with a system image but i've done quite a bit of moving around since the backup. also windows decided to backup on schedule and i stopped it ... Read more

Hello, and Welcome to BC

I think your only chance would be to use Winrar's own repair tool under tools in the menu bar.

If you have Windows 7 and also have System Restore enabled right click the rar file and see if you have any previous versions listed.
