Re: Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 600 MHz

Q: Re: Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 600 MHz

Hi there,

I purchased a M755 2 GHZ Dothan CPU for my M200. I installed the CPU without any problems, but now I have one: This CPU is only running at 600 MHZ. It seems to me that it runs on energy saving mode but I have the tablet on power supply.

I searched for an option in the bios to health it but there is nothing. My version is (displayed on the right corner on the top in the bios): "ACPI BIOS Version 1.80"

My OS is Windows 7 Prof.

Is there any possibilty (BIOS update? etc.) to fix it?

Thanks for your support!

Preferred Solution: Re: Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 600 MHz

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

A: Re: Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 600 MHz

That?s the speed step feature and kicks in the 5x multiplier to save power.

Check the BIOS if you can find setting regarding speed step and disable it. If you cannot find such an option in BIOS choose another plan and set minimum processor state to 100%. Then it will always run at 2.0 GHz.

Check this!!!

Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 600 MHz

I have a Portege M200 with a Dothan Pentium M 725 supposed to run at 1.6 ghz but posts a 598Mhz
clockspeed. I updated the bios to 1.8.

I read in a previous 'locked' post ...... :

...there is supposedly a DOS base utility from Toshiba to solve the issue. .
it is said it is not a Bios issue.....................

Can anyone direct me to this utility?

A:Portege M200 - CPU runs only at 598 MHz ! Toshiba DOS Base Service Tool

The answer is here...thank all and whoever is responsible:

The key is a utility called ' pom200t1 '

You will need the following.

A floppy or if you don't have one an external floppy drive, or if you are savvy to be able to boot a file from a CD-Drive.
You will also need WinImage as all the files you download come as .ima files
Download pom200t1-V1.5.zip and pom200t1.zip (if one doesn't work the other should).

You can find them here:

http://www.stormpaintball.com/toshiba/pm765.bin (this one is a last ditch attempt).
Then follow these instructions from the site I posted before:

Symptom:CPU stays at 598 MHz constantly.

1) Boot into BIOS. (Press "Esc" during the boot process, before the OS loads, but after entering your password, if you are using boot-time password protection).

2) Look under the "Others" category.

3) If the motherboard doesn't have enough information about the CPU, the category "Dynamic CPU Frequency Mode" will be blanked out (you won't see it).

If the laptop is in this condition it will never go faster than 598 Mhz until you perform the following procedure.
Note: Although this utility says that it is for a Toshiba Portege M200, the particular fix you need might work on other Toshiba laptops.
It has worked on 3 different Toshiba Satellite Pro M15 S405s, but *USE AT YOUR OWN RISK*.

1) Boot into Windows and create... Read more

I have managed like possibly many others to get Windows 7 on to a Portege M200 the touch screen application with in 7 is amazing by the way. However my question is how much can I sell this for as I've noticed there are none on eBay let alone one of these with windows 7 on it as it is this rare I personally wouldn't b able to price it and was wondering how much would you pay for such a rare item?

A:Portege M200 with Windows 7

The M200 is quite an old model so I doubt it will sell for much.

Also, if you sell the laptop, it will need to have a genuine Win7 license, which may cost more than what the M200 is worth.

I have a Toshiba Portege M200 running XP that won’t boot. The Toshiba splash screen comes up then goes away, the HDD light turns on once and then shuts off and nothing happens. I tried hitting F12 to get into the bios but then the splash screen stays up and nothing else happens. I can get into the advanced startup menu by hitting F8. I tried booting to safe mode and last known good configuration but still nothing happened.

I also tried taking out the battery and booting it without the battery because I read that may work, but I had no luck with that either.

Does anyone know how I can troubleshoot this?

Thanks for reading,

A:Toshiba Portege m200 won't boot

Try downloading Fedora Linux iso, and burn that image to a CD. Boot with it, and when it comes to its desktop, you will see all your hard drives. IF the CD won't boot, then its a machine problem. If the hd doesnt show up, then we know it is a hd problem. If the hd does show up, you can copy out all your data onto a usb memory stick.

Hi. I've just received my new M200 tablet pc, but the display is sluggy compared to my Tecra S1 display. It seems like there is something on top of the whole display which makes the picture sluggy and the colours too. This can be seen especially on white background. Is there a plastic to be removed, because I looked and I think there is no such or is it normal for tablet pcs?

A:Portege M200 Display questions

The LCD Panel of the Portege M200 is covered with a protection mask. This protection sheet is integrated into the LCD Mask to avoid scratches on the LCD Panel - caused from dirt or handling - caused by the usage of the pen.
You can not compare these two displays (Portege-Tecra) because Portege is tablet pc with the protection mask and Tecra has a very different display with other properties.

My husband brought home a Toshiba Portege M200/M205 from a foreclosure cleanout that he was doing that apparently crashed. Black screen that says "safe mode", "start normally", etc. I restarted it in Safe Mode. It starts to run a scan saying components regarding sysem 32 and then gets to a screen that says "PXE-E61 media test failure, check cable; PXE-MOF: Exiting intel boot agent. Insert system disk in drive...press any key" I don't have a system disk. Can I do anything with this tablet or should I just trash it?

A:toshiba portege M200]M205

PXE-E61 media test failure

This means that the the Boot File on the HDD is corrupted or the HDD has failed and the boot sequence has by passed the HDD and is going to the next device in the Boot Sequence which is a Network Boot which fails.
Boot off of the Windows Disc Or download the Recovery Console ISO. Burn it to CD with IMGBurn Boot off of the CD and get to the Recovery Console. Here type chkdsk /R and press enter. The Check Disk utility will try and fix any file errors.
You can also download the ISO image for Seatools or Drive Fitness in my signature and burn the image to a CD using IMGBurn also in my signature and boot off of the newly created CD and run the Quick and Advanced tests on the HDD to test the integrity of the drive.

My 60GB Toshiba hard drive failed in my Portege M200.

I tried fitting a hard drive I had in my old laptop a 30GB Hitachi hard drive but the laptop doesn?t seem to recognise it. Does it need a Toshiba hard drive or is the laptop dead, when I put the hard drive in I get invalid boot disk message.

The old hard drive goes to a blue screen then reboots laptop.

A:Portege M200 - hard drive failed

No it must not be Toshiba HDD only. I found the list of some compatible HDDs for this old Portege.
You can use follow HDDs:
- HITACHI G8BC00014410
- HITACHI G8BC00014610
- HITACHI G8BC00015610
- HITACHI G8BC00014810

Anyway, when you try to use new HDD set BIOS to default settings and check if new HDD will be recognized properly in BIOS settings.

Is old HDD recognized properly in BIOS settings?
Have you tried to install OS using old HDD?

Yesterday my anti-virus software let me know a virus was trying to access my computer, had quarantined it and asked for a reboot of my Portege M200 to remove it completely. On rebooting, the notebook did not actually reboot and just hung. It gets past the Toshiba window and hangs. I have tried starting it in safe mode but to no avail. It starts loading files and hangs at a particular system file which is obviously now corrupt. I tried to get into my recovery console using Windows XP recovery disks but was unable to do so. The threads on this forum have been helpful however I have still not solved the issue.

I have my product recovery DVD-ROM but I am scared to use it as the warning coming with it says that reformatting will lose all of my work and I am not sure if it will automatically reformat my hard drive (as I have no back ups of my work) or will I be given a choice? Also, I see from your forums that it will not actually repair any corrupt OS files. I have also seen files about making a ghost image to a floppy drive but I do not have a floppy drive on my Portege M200.

Can anyone please provide me with steps to solve this issue as I am 11 hours trying to fix this but to no avail!

A:Portege M200 - Cannot access recovery console

You are right about recovery image. Recovery image is designed for clean OS only and there is no option for OS repair. What you can try is to obtain Microsoft WXP installation disc and start repair option.

I hope this will help you and you will be able to start preinstalled OS. If this will work at first back up all your important data.

Hello, first of all excuse me for my english I'm not totally bilingual.
So I got a Portege M200, with the model number : PPM21E-02QFZ-FR, serial number : 55893043G

This laptop work fine but *when I unplug the AC adapter the screen come black*, when I replug screen light again (It continue to work but without screen because it not power off).

I try Fn+F5 combinaison, not worked, try to change performance settings in windows, no change.

When I go into BIOS I can make occur this problem even if the AC is plugged by changing the value of the "battery save mode" field from "Full Power" to another (when I change the screen is turning off).

do you know how to resolve this issue ?
thanks in advance

A:Screen issues when battery mode on a Portege M200

>This laptop work fine but when I unplug the AC adapter the screen come black, when I replug screen light again (It continue to work but without screen because it not power off).

Sorry mate I?m afraid I did not understand this correctly.
If you disconnect the AC adaptor, the display goes off.
But what happens if the AC adaptor is connected again? You say that screen lights again but then you said you can work but without screen.

So I?m confused now?

In my opinion you should check the Windows power options.
Usually if the AC adaptor would be disconnected, the notebook switches to another power plant (battery mode).
In my opinion you should check the power plant settings which is used if AC adaptor is disconnected.

I recently picked up a Portege M200 and installed (via PXE - network install) Windows 7 on it. I would like to upgrade the BIOS as it's still at the original BIOS (1.1). I tried to put it on a USB drive but there doesn't seem to be an option to boot from USB.

Anyone know where I can find a driver for it? I do see there are 2 devices not recognized - one "Base System Device" and one "Unknown Device"...

And I see it doesn't recognize the video card either - just uses Standard VGA Graphics Adapter which seems to work fine...

A:Can't install OS on optical drive-less Portege m200 Tablet, no USB boot

You don't say which operating system you are trying to install but try using the other PC to install the OS and then moving the hard drive back to the tablet to install the drivers and programs. Of course, you will need a bootable operating system cd and you should download your tablet drivers from the Toshiba website.

When you got the "missing boot manager" message, evidently you were trying to boot from that hard drive but that's not what you want to do if you are trying to install Windows, for example. Change the boot order to CD first so it will boot from your OS installation CD.

Quick question - will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

Layout looks similar; albeit a different colour.

A:Will a keyboard for a Portege S100 work in a Portege M100?

I think you cannot use the same keyboard because the Portege S100 supports the an-easy-to-use 84-key (US) or 85-key (UK) keyboard and the Portege M100 supports the an-easy-to-use 85/86-key keyboard.
Furthermore the connector of the S100 supports the CN3230 keyboard interface 34 pin connector and the M100 supports the PJ3230 keyboard 34pin connector.

So possibly this could be a problem.
I recommend using the original keyboards released for the each notebook model.

I have a Gateway M200 laptop, and its warranty expired in 9/04. A few days ago, suddenly, when I tried to boot up the laptop, my screen showed the following error:

pxe-e61: media test failure, check cable; no OS found.

I have talke to Gateway, and unable to make progress in diagnosising the problem. I have tried to reseat the hard drive and the disc ribbon cable but no luck. The laptop just don't seem to be able to see the hard drive anymore. My Phoenix Bios setup showed NONE in the master drive field, and the utility also showed TYPE=AUTO. I think that means automatically detect drive.

Gateway did have me run a Gateway utility that should run checks on my hard drive. However, when I run the utility (from diskette), I get the error that there is no drive detected.

I am considering taking the latop to TigerDirect which has a local store office by me to have them check it out instead of sending it to Gateway via mail.

Has anyone run into such a problem and on a Gateway? I am looking for suggestions on what I can do to check this problem out. Thanks.

Do you have access to advanced boot menu? If yes you should try to start in safe more load the last good known system configuration.
If not the only option is reinstalling Windows I think. Therefore you can take a Microsoft or Toshiba disk. If you don?t have the Toshiba recovery disk anymore, contact the authorized service provider in your country.

I think the HDD wasn?t recognized because you need SATA drivers. Have you checked this?

Toshiba Protege M200
NVIDIA GeForce FX Go5200 32M/64M
XP service pack 1

Thanks to anyone that can help me out with this problem. I really appreciate the help, and if there is anything else that you guys need as far as information let me know cause I probably left out some important obvious features.

A:Problem with Toshiba Protege M200 lcd screen...

So if you use an external monitor, and go to display properties/settings, does it list two monitors? Does moving the screen affect anything? I suspect the connection to the screen may have come apart inside. You didn't drop it or crack the screen?

MISSIMG DRIVER: WhenI install a new driver I get a message missing file info.
I HAVE TRIED SEVERAL driver downloads but the computer thinks they are not right even though toshiba recomends them for my laptop.

A:Satellite M200 - Cannot update Intel N10/ICH7 DRIVER

Can you provide the full model name of your Satellite M200 notebook?
From where did you try to download this driver and for what system?

It does not look like Satellite M200 would be a European notebook model. It looks like it was released for Asia market.
Furthermore I think that this error message appears because the corrupt driver package. Maybe some files (or just the info file) are faulty

I have a question about my Toshiba M200. it makes a noise on the hard drive whenever I place it down on a hard surface. For instance if I turn it on, put it on the desk or simply tap the base where the hard drive is located it makes a sharp noise (which makes the hard drive go crazy with an annoying sound) as if the hard drive caddy is touching the hard drive. What could be the problem? Is it the hard drive because I was thinking of getting another, or could it be the cover in which protects the hard drive, THANKS!

First time here, I have an Advent Modena M200 laptop, it had a 400Gb hard drive that went faulty last week. I replaced it with another hard drive but unfortunatly I did not make a recovery disc. I did manage to access the hidden 6Gb partition of the old hard drive and take the recovery files which include "imagelayout", "Boot", "EFI", "Sources", "WIMfiles" and BOOTmgr.

I have installed windows 7 32 bit but I want to restore it back to original factory settings with its 64 bit windows 7 home premium. Is there any way I can use the files I got to restore it? I treid making a new partition and pasted the files there and pressed F8 to restore but it would not find any recovery files.

Can anyone find a solution please?

Welcome to the bleeping computer forum
Unfortunately, intermittent issues are one of the difficult fault to troubleshoot. Please follow the below steps to collect some basic info about your system.
1 ) Generate a report about your system using Speccy by reading the guide below.
Post the web link displayed by Speccy in next reply.
2 ) Download and run Minitoolbox from http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/minitoolbox/
Run the tool and only select the following tick boxes.
-List last 10 Event viewer errors
    -List installed programs
    -List devices
-List users, partition and memory size
Now click "Go" and post the output in next reply
After reading your logs, either me or any other forum volunteer will assist to you to diagnose the issue.
Don't ever use the registry cleaning function in CCleaner or Glary utilities. Only use them to clean the temp files. Using registry cleaners may cause unpredictable damage to the registry. If anyone properly knows which registry keys are garbage, that is only Microsoft.

My computer has been running slow, especially when I do a restart, it takes forever to restart. I went into msconfig and disabled what is in startup. Question is what do I need in startup and what can I get rid of? and how do I remove something from startup?
Also what is a good free firewall to use?
Thanks Dano

A:Computer runs faster when I disable what runs in the background?

Here is a good explanation: http://netsquirrel.com/msconfig/
There are certain (and important) items that should run at Startup.

If you are unsure of some of the entries you see listed, this is a great website to research them: http://www.castlecops.com/StartupList.html
It tells you what the process is, and if it's necessary to run at Startup.

A good firewall (and free one) is Zone Alarm: http://www.zonelabs.com/store/content/company/products/znalm/freeDownload.jsp

Every now and then (every 5 minutes or so) my cursor will turn into the hourglass for a split second, then turn back. I'm assuming this means something is being initiated in the background periodically. Over time, this slows down my computer. At the very least, it makes me lag tremendously in online games for a few seconds (which makes CS and UT2004 pretty much unplayable).

I've tried running the latest AdAware and Spybot: Search and Destroy. Neither solved the problem. These seem like symptoms of generic spyware, but I've still been unable to put an end to it. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

(I'm using windows XP, if that makes any difference)

Try this, go to Panda and run a scan, and see if it can find anything and delete it. http://www.pandasoftware.com/activescan/com/

I have a client with a tricked out Dell xps Studio (6GB memory) who is suffering with very long times to print. Even sending a printer test page from within windows (Vista home premium 64) takes about 30 seconds before the sent notice appears on the screen. The printer is a Epson Stylus Photo1900 (large format printer). No other programs running but background stuff kept to a minimum. I have tried shutting down the spooler and printing direct, but it is slow as well.

I loaded and ran Process Explorer from Sysinternals and the only thing out of the ordinary is the constant opening, running and ending of dllhost.exe. This occurs every few seconds and lasts only for a few seconds.

I know there are discussions in posts elsewhere in the forums of the possible impostor DLLHOST.EXE, and when I left the client's I had set MS Security Essentials to run a full scan to see if it would find anything, but I have not yet been to see the results.

Does anyone else have any ideas on this?

My windows vists is configuring updates reboots itself and reuns updates again I can't do anything with it. Help

Not sure whether I'm putting this question in the right spot but here goes. I have a laptop running XP. Today when I tried to boot it up it told me my memory had changed and prompted me to press F1 to continue. I did and it started to boot Windows but then gave me message "One of your discs needs to be checked for consistency." I let it go ahead and it went through a 3 stage process -
1) Verifying files - it said complete
2) Verifying indexes - It corrected an error in Index $SII for file 9
3) Verifying security descriptors - On this last check after a while it started multiple messages of the type " Inserting index entry xxxx with ID yyyy into Index $zzz of file 9." There were hundreds of these messages and it just kept going with consecutively increasing numbers. Eventually I stopped it with the OFF button and then tried to reboot, but the same thing happened. Please help somebody. Should I let it just carry on running or am I likely to be losing my hard drive data as it does this check? Thanks, Dave

A:Check Disc just runs and runs

Leave it on overnight to complete its check. Did you notice any disk errors, or did it ask you to run chkdisk /f ?
