I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Recently (in the last month) my computer has started giving me a double click on a single click of the left button.  This is very irritating.
It does this with both, a USB Logitech Track Man Wheel and with a wireless HID mouse.
I have tried adjusting the settings for the mouse but that doesn't seem to have any effect.
I have AVAST antivirus.  I have run Microsoft Security Essentials, Malewarebytes Anti-Malware, Spybot search and destroy, Super Anti-Spyware and Junkware Removal Tool.
I have updated all of my drivers and used Drive Booster 3.
When I click to close a window on Firefox it will double click and minimize the browser.
This problem is active in all of my programs that I run, not just the browser.
I have Windows Vista, 64 Bit on a Dell Inspiron laptop.
Does anyone have any suggestions.
I think this has to be a software problem, but I don't know how to correct it or which software is involved..
Thank you

Info on my PC is below. In many windows such as those opened within Internet Explorer, a right mouse click on the right-hand scroll bar acts like a double click, making the scroll go down much further than wanted. It used to be that a single click on the empty area of the bar would make the screen go down only one screen height. It now goes down two. Please help as this is irritating.

Many times when I single click on an item with my mouse, whether it be a program, a shortcut, or whatever, more often than not , it acts as a double click. When I double cliclk, it opens up the program twice more often than mot, also. I have the Folder options set up to double click so I don't know what's going on. I regularly run AdAdware, Spybot, and I have ZoneAlarm Suite running all the time.

Any ideas?

Just a goofy phenomena that seems to be puzzling me. Each time I single click on a desktop icon, it acts like it was double clicked and opens the file/program. When single clicking on a scroll-bar to the right of a window, it acts like it was double clicked, traveling much further down the screen than expected.

I'm using Windows ME. My mouse is an IBM Scrollpoint II, 3-button mouse with a small scroll pivot-lever. Any assistance to solve this problem will be appreciated. Thanks.

A:Single mouse click acts like a double-click

Hi there Amaul,

One thing to check is go into the 'mouse properties' in the 'Control Panel' and under the 'Buttons' tab there will be an option for 'Files and Folders'. Make sure the 'double-click to open an item' is selected.

Hope this helps.

Hi, whenever I click on anything, my mouse will
double click instead of single click. I went to the
control panel and folder options and the mouse is set for double clicks, NOT single.
Any ideas?
Is this some sort of a virus?
Also, Internet Explorer ( I use Mozilla anyway ) will not open properly for me either.
For example, if I click on a link in OE, it opens with IE, or at least it used to, now it just hangs.
also, if I click on Windows update, I jus get a blank screen.
Any ideas?

Thanks,

Hey all, I got this rather annoying problem lately. As title says, my mouse seems to double click when I just clicked once. You can notice that in browsers, when I click on an address in the suggestions, but the click "goes through" and clicks on a bookmark behind the drop down menu which vanished after first click.

Same goes for youtube, when I just want to pause a video, and single click, the video goes to fullscreen which happens only when you double click. Starts to be really annoying.

Same issue can be noticed in few other circumstances as well.. thou now that I think about it, I think it only occurs browser related.

I am using Mionix saiph 1800 mouse.

A:Mouse double clicks when i single click

Could be the switch in the mouse is causing that. I just got rid of a Microsoft mouse for that exact problem.

Go into the Mouse configuration panel in the Control Panel and change the LEFT mouse click to the RIGHT click. Then try it with the right mouse button and see if you still get double clicks. If you don't that would confirm that the mouse is the problem.

I have a wired 5-button Microsoft optical Intellimouse, about 5 yrs old. Lately it's double-clicking when I single-click, which obviously is quite annoying. It's not the software mouse clicking speed, that doesn't solve it. I switched to an old mouse temporarily and the problem didn't occur, so it's definitely the hardware. Driver is up-to-date.

So, this mouse is kaput, right? There's nothing I could do to fix this? Thanks.

A:Mouse Double-clicking on Single-click

Well, this is impressive. I googled the problem and found it's a common one with the intellimouse and there's a little free utility out there called, appropriately enough, "MouseFix", which I dl'ed and ran. It appears to have solved the problem. Cool. Saved me having to buy a new mouse.

For a long time now I've been experiencing issues with my old mouse. My old mouse either double-clicked on a single click, or didn't click at all. I assumed the mouse was failing and got a new one. The new mouse is working fine 99% of the time, but every now and then it will randomly double-click on a single click. The mouse can't be failing as it's brand new. I suspect that when it double-clicks that it is registering the downward click as a click and the upward release as a click as well. What I fail to understand is why this only occurs rarely. For the past week I've been attempting to notice when it does double-click and see that it doesn't matter what application I'm using and that I am not double-clicking by mistake.

A:Mouse double-clicks on single click

In most instances, especially when it's that rare of an occurance, it's operator error.

Having said that, you can adjust the double click speed in the mouse settings (Control Panel / Mouse / buttons tab).

I'm new to the forums and I have this recent problem with my mouse. It double-clicks sometimes and it disconnects once in a while even when the USB is already inserted. Now I have a new mouse but it still does the same problems. I checked my browser, Sony Vegas, every program I had. This is getting annoying. My old mouse also used to click every once in a while when I wasn't even clicking. I think the problem is due to dust and microbes inside the mouse. This is super urgent because now the mouse doesn't click whenever I do a click and the wheel scrolls instantly whenever I do a click

A:Mouse double-clicking on single click and disconnecting even with USB

Hmm, if your new mouse is showing the same symptoms then it is not the problem. However, check your mice (both old and new) on another PC to make sure they are not faulty.

Load defaults in BIOS.
Perform a clean startup - Troubleshoot Application Conflicts by Performing a Clean Startup

To eliminate PC hardware fault, download and make bootable DVD/USB for Linux Mint MATE and boot with it (no need to install), see if both mice will work alright.

Correct. "Folder Options" refers to Windows Explorer. The "folders" within a program, like WLM, are under the control of the program. However I noticed that my version of WLM (2009) behaves the way you want without the "Reading" pane turned on. If I turn it on then a single click shows the email in the reading pane. If I turn it off, it takes a double click to open the email to view it. The reading pane is controlled via the "Layout" Viewing option.

Hi, I'm having a very strange issue with my Lenovo G500 laptop that started with my touchpad mouse erratically clicking more than once on a single click. It started as a minor annoyance and escalated to the point where the touchpad mouse no longer works at all. To get around this problem, I now use an external mouse. This worked fine for a while but I am now starting to notice the same issue with it as well.

It does not seem to be a virus or malware or a failed hard drive as I just replaced my HD with a brand new SSD & fresh copy of Windows and I am still having this issue. Any ideas?

Hello,

I came up to a problem that I cannot solve. Using the Explorer (not IE but the plain explorer to organize folders and files) I cannot change the behaviour of an Active Desktop like in WinXP or others.

I am very used to this procedure: single click = mark an object / doubleclick = execute an object.

Unfortunately, the Explorer just uses the option single click = execute. I remembered the option in XP/Vista, that you can go to Extras -> folder options -> Select Elements and tick a radio button for the Active Desktop method or the classic method (execute via doubleclick). Just as described in the tutorial "Single-Click or Double-Click to Open an Item" within this forum.

I tried this, and now I'm getting nuts: The radio button is already put on the classic mode (execute by doubleclick, select by single click). The other option is grey, i.e. it cannot be selected.

I guess, there's some tick wrong in the registry or else, but I cannot find out which. Does anyone has an idea what can be done?

A:folder options / single-click or double-click

The checkbox/radio button option is under the View tab in the same dialog.

Do you mean the other mouse works fine? As far as I know there's no way to fix a mouse other than making sure the trackball or optical lens is clean, whichever your has.

A repair would cost more than a new mouse I suspect. You can get an ordinary one for about $5 or so.

Since the day before yesterday, I have been having a problem where my mouse double-clicks when I single-click. This happens sometimes when I open a program (I ended up opening a Firefox window with a session restore that I wanted as well as a second blank window. I didn't minimize the session restore one, so when I clicked the X on the blank window it closed both and I lost the session restore links since it closed both windows). When I right click to open a link in another tab, it sometimes opens the site in two tabs. When I click on the google window or the address window, all of the text is highlighted for replacement as if I clicked on the text twice.

I've only noticed this in XP, although I have only done a little work in Word over the last couple days.

I've looked in google and found a couple links that say it is a hardware related program (the mouse is a Logitech MX110 and I can't find it listed at their site for a driver). That is possible, but it has been very sudden AND it seemed to start after XP's latest auto-update (I really should update my OS to one of the professional ones because I've been complaining for years about XP Home's auto-update and reboot).

Is it possible that the latest XP update could have done something to the mouse driver? I should add that I think I'm still using the old Intelipoint driver with the Logitech mouse because I heard that the Logitech drivers were buggy.

Should I try updating the Intellip... Read more

Hello everyone! I have come across an annoying problem which I cannot solve by myself. I have a Q-Pad 5k gaming mouse which I bought about one year ago. Recently, it started to double click even though I single click. I have tried with a different mouse and it works fine, but the interesting part is that the mouse works very well on my laptop. I believe it may be the USB ports of my desktop, but I may be wrong. Once I connect it to my laptop it works fine, then when I connect it to my desktop works fine for about 10 mins and then starts the double click "ritual" again. Any feedback is appreciated.

I have a Logitech Cordless Mouseman Wheel mouse, model number M-RK53.

I have the thumb button and the wheel button both configured for double-click. But when I first turn the PC on, the double-click funtions do not work. As far as I can determine, neither the thumb button nor the wheel button do anything at that time.

If I do a single right or left mouse click anywhere on the screen, then after that the thumb button and the wheel button both provide double-clicks until I turn off and restart the PC, at which time I'm back to no double-clicks from either button.

This function worked (I think) in previous versions of Windows. But since I upgraded to Windows XP Professional something over a year ago, I lost the double-clicks on startup.

And hereís an oddity: As the PC is booting, there is a brief interval prior to completion of the boot process when the mouse cursor is on the screen and can be moved around. If I move the mouse (and thereby the cursor) around on the screen during this interval, then the above-named buttons will provide double-clicks when the booting in complete. If I donít move the mouse during that interval of time, then no double-clicks until I click somewhere on the screen with the left or right mouse buttons.

Using mw9791enu.exe.

Any advice as to how to make the thumb button and the wheel button do the double-click at startup?

Thanks.

Steve

Every once in a while my pc acts really nutty. What happens is that I'll go to open a program (lets say Nero Burning Rom) and on a single double click Nero will open up 70+ times. Furthermore, it makes mostly all of my programs act up when this starts happening. For example, when I click the arrow in the system tray it expands and collapses tons of times before it stops. If I open Firefox my homepage sort of half loads over and over and won't stop. MSN Messenger opens up then freaks out when I put the pointer in its window (this happens in the above Firefox example too). All of this activity makes the pc unusable until it all stops. Speaking of when it stops, it does't stop with a restart, it just stops mid session. I thought it could be a mouse problem because the trackball I use is pretty ancient and I figured it just might have just petered out finally, but then I tried another mouse that I found laying around and it did the same things. One other thing I've noticed it (the trackball) doing is when it's not being used the pointer slowly crawls towards the top of the screen. I've run my anti-virus and all three of my spyware programs and none of them find anything out of the ordinary. So what could be causing this annoyance? I'm starting to think it might be my mouse port, but how would I find this out?

Thanks in advance.

Anyways thanks TSG for being such a help always.

Just went through my sister's computer and removed all the spyware and viruses (a lot). While doing this I noticed that I couldn't double-click on anything in Explorer. I could double-click on anything on the desktop. I can select objects in Explorer, but no double or right click on the files. To open anything, I have to select it and then File > Open. Anyone have a fix for this?

After re-install of Win7 Ult my mouse acts as though single click is selected. When I go to Tools>Folder Options double click is selected and single click is grayed out. I'm hoping to find a registry hack to overcome this problem. I am open to any and all suggestions. I really do not like single click.

By the way I have tried multiple mice with the same results

A:Cannot choose single/double click in explorer->tools->folder options

This should be the appropriate setting ... double click is selected by default, but you can change it to single click.

What you are facing might ve due to some system file violations. There are few tricks of solve it.

At first try SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker .

A:problem while i do right click or double click...

Hiya and welcome

Are you still having this problem? If so, lets take a look at a log. go to http://aumha.org/downloads/hijackthis.zip , and download 'Hijack This!'.
Unzip, doubleclick HijackThis.exe, and hit "Scan".

When the scan is finished, the "Scan" button will change into a "Save Log" button.
Press that, save the log somewhere, and please copy & paste its contents to the forum.

It will possibly show other issues deserving our attention, but most of what it lists will be harmless or even required, so do NOT fix anything yet.
Someone here will be happy to help you analyze the results.

Regards

eddie

Hello! I've had this problem for a while, but finally I found a solution so I thought I would post it for everyone having this problem with the mouse double-clicking even though you single click. It's just a little program. Run it and minimize it and it doesn't get in your way. Hope it helps.

Have had new computer for a few months. Mouse worked fine until a few days ago. Will open some things by "double click" and some things I have to right click and open. I installed a new mouse and have same problems. Haven't changed anything or installed any new hardware or software recently. I have my big hammer and safety glasses handy in case no one gives me a suitable solution.

A:Mouse won't "double click".

Can you discern any pattern to what will open with a double-click and what won't? Will a program that opened with a double-click later require a right-click (or vice-versa)?For a program that you have to right-click, can you also open the program by left-clicking it once and pressing Enter? Also, check your mouse 'double-click speed'. Click the start orb and type in mouse and press Enter. Adjust your double-click speed slider to the left by a few notches and retest. Report your findings in your next reply.

Has anyone else had the problem of single clicking an object to focus on it but having it execute instead?

Example: I select a music (MP3) to Edit - rather than focus on the MP3 Explorer launchs the file and begins to play.

Possible (though illogical solution) - the speed of the mouse being set to higher movement seems to stop the behavior. ie: slower movement rates of the mouse present the problem.

Just wanted to know if anyone else has seen this behavior.

A:Mouse single click too sensitive...

Hello Rkseagle,

When using single-click, you would just want to let the mouse pointer hover over the file to select it instead of clicking on it. If you are using a touchpad instead of a mouse, then you may need to adjust the tap sensitivity to help prevent tapping when you are just moving.

Hope this helps,
Shawn

I have a Logitech Track Man Marble mouse. I has 3 buttons which I use the middle button as a single click to double click, when you set it in the logitech program.
Just loaded XP Pro, every time I re-boot I have to reset the middle button to double click. Have the latest drivers.

Any Ideas?

I'm running Win 7 Pro x64 and IE11.

My mouse click appears to be highly sensitive and does multiple clicks when I only click once. For example, if I open the calculator and click on the various number buttons, I will get double or triple numbers.

I've done a complete clean-up and I've removed flash player, but the problem still persists.

Is this a common issue and is there a solution?

Regards

This has generally been happening once a month. When I go to single click an item, the mouse (sometimes) double clicks and opens said item. I don't think this is due to a virus, as I have scanned the computer with avg free. Do I simply need a new mouse? Or is it possibly something more? The mouse is a laser mouse, micro innovations. I'm not sure how good the quality is, but it was pretty inexpensive. Last month when this happened it was a bit more severe, when I clicked on an item, several around it were highlighted and the taskmanager wouldn't even open.

If you can help at all I appreciate it, thank you in advance!

I have recently noticed some odd behavior in my computer, for some reason when I open My Computer and double click on a hard drive (I have 3) it will not open the drive. However I can still right-click and choose Explore to get around it.

At first I thought that this was a virus but after 3 scans with SpyBot I am still clean. Any ideas? It's not critical but I do find it odd.

A:[SOLVED] Baffled again, double-click does not open hard drives but right click will

What happens when you double click? Nothing, or Search opens, or a command prompt, or something else?

My symptoms are these:
right click hangs on all files but not folders for about 30-40 seconds then works fine for a few moments but once I click away or do anything else the problem comes back
using the keyboard to copy hangs and then once the computer "unfreezes" copy/paste with keyboard works fine
double clicking on a file that would launch a program hangs for a while then opens the program.
using the delete key hangs
Otherwise performance is normal everything runs fine while using all programs.

What I have tried so far:
Running Adaware and AVG to determine if spyware/malware installed
using shellview to disable processes - no results
cleaned temp files and defragmented drives
uninstalled hp easy button keyboard software

Problem does not occur in safe mode.
