I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I have spent the last 2 days and countless hours on the phone and at the verizon store trying to set my X1 up with veriz on. I have installed the broadband card (it now shows up in my networks) and updated all drivers. verizon says they cannot activate a sime for this computer. then proceed to tell me it is GSM and i need AT&T. or a verizon mobile hot spot. the main reason i got this computer is for the verizon 4g. any help, i am going back to the store tomorrow night, supposely a techy guy is working then :/

Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit
Western Digital WD My Passport 2 TB external hard drive
Western Digital's security software allows a password to be set on the external drive, encrypting it. When the drive is connected to a PC, a virtual CD (VCD) partition runs (via autorun) an unlocker utility WD Drive Unlock.exe, that allows password entry.
When I connect the locked drive to a Windows 7 PC (that does not have any WD software installed), the autoun popup appears and I select "Run WD Drive Unlock.exe". At that point, User Account Control (UAC) elevation prompt appears, requiring Administrator
password in order to continue.
WD Drive Unlock then lets me enter password.
Because of UAC elevation, the unlocker can be used only by an Administrator user or by a standard user account who knows the Administrator password.

Is UAC elevation prompt truly necessary?
Is it appearing because Western Digital hasn't coded the unlocker exe correctly, or would any such utility require UAC elevation?

I'd like to find a way that a standard user account can run the unlocker to enter passsword and access the external drive, without having to know the Windows Admin password.

Help network guys and gals!! After installing SP2, verizon dsl no longer connects. Verizon uses PPPoE. DHCP appears to be enabled, but the machine is getting a 10.x IP address?! There's two icons in Network connections panel, one which says Broadband verizon dsl, and one that says Local Area Connection. This was not the case pre-sp2. according to IPCONFIG, the LAC is getting the 10.x IP, with DHCP enabled, but the verizon broadband says "DHCP enabled: No" What the hell is going on?!?! Any thoughts, help, suggestions, words of encouragement accepted!

If I have Verizon DSL and a current account at my home, can I take my Westell Modem to another house with Verizon DSL service and set up my router and use my own account at that site? I have to uproot for a few weeks. The owner of the house is leaving for a few weeks and is going to keep the DSL service up. I just want to use my own account there. Any ideas?

Thank you

Probably not, but best ask Verizon.

Recently my Verizon DSL modem has been dropping signal, seems it happens every 10-15 mins. I noticed when it does the DSL light that should be solid green starts blinking then i get disconnect from internet. I cant figure out what the problem is, any help would be greatly appreciated.

A:Verizon Dsl

Well, there are a couple of possibilities, I'd rate them in this order.

Issues with Verizon's lines and/or central office connection. (most likely)
Interior wiring or your filters are not properly installed.
The modem is bad.

I am in the process of changing from Comcast Cable to Verizon DSL (at less than 1/3 the price). I found one glitch. I was not able to upload HTML files to a web server via any FTP programs. Durring one of the reconfigurations I wound up loosing my Internet connection and started from one computer conected directly to to the Westell 6100 DSL Modem, and found that I was able to upoload files. When I put the router (USR 5461) back in I was not able to.

After many many hours on telephone and chats and dozens of E-mails, I found a simple solution. The techs were all baffeled, but a geek at Geek Squad had a probable solution. Her solution seemed absurd but I was willing to try.

I pulled out my US Robotics 5461 router, and put in my dusty old Linksys BEFSR41 router. IT WORKED. Everything is now working.

For some reason (which is not clear) Verizon DSL tends to be happy with Linksys routers.

I hope this posting can save someone the time that I spent on the problem

So yesterday when i come home from school my dsl is down. I figured i would have to just reset the modem and router and it would be fine, which it was, until i realized i was only getting 10 KBit/s download speed. And then the dsl went out again. So i called Verizon and after talking to the guy for over 30 minutes and trying stupid things he tells me it is a problem with the line. Today the technician came to my house. He tells me that my Westell Model 2200 Modem is the number one problem. He said it's too old and i need to get a new one. He also tells me that i need to downgrade my speed? Im not positive but i believe i have 1Mb speed right now, atleast thats what im paying for... he says i need to downgrade to 768. So basically none of this makes sense to me. Because in the past i have had like 1000 KBit/s download speed before with the same setup. But right now after the tech came i am only getting like 580 Kbits download speed...

So why would i wanna downgrade my speed to lower then i have had before? He told me that it would work better if i did... that makes no sense. I want higher speeds...not lower
What are you guys getting out of this? And what would you do?

I have verizon DSL. Now the question I have is, When I go to add and remove programs, I look at usage for each program. Verizon high speed internet shows rarely used. Internet explorer shows more use, why am I paying for verizon??

Internet explorer is a program used to view web content, it does not grant you access to the internet. If you were to cancel your Verizon DSL subscription Internet Explorer would no longer do anything.

I have a Compaq Presario with WIn XP. I have Verizon DSL and MSN as the IP in a package deal. Recently, I got an update prompt to "make my MSN experience more useful"........it forced the download each time I tried to log into my regular Verizon/MSN page. When I allowed it to complete, thinking it was some new MSN update I had to have, it turns out ot be MSN 8, an old product, WHICH it could not even complete the install because it said I already had a later version????.
Now I have old MSN 8, lost my "http://verizon.my.msn.com' homepage to a blank white page, and, I can't access my MSN email.
Any clues? Thanks!

A:Verizon/MSN DSL

Get rid of that MSN s*h*i*t. It's less than worthless. Microsoft will take advantage of any and all opportunities to control you & your PC. Just go to the Add/Delete section of Contol Panel and say ?Adios!. Ignore any warnings that your life as you know it will end and just get rid of it. You can then set your home page to something less invasive like Yahoo or Google.

your speedtest shows 19mbps download and 2.5mbps upload. That's considerably faster than 1.5mbps on dsl.

Has anyone had or seen tips on this problem? When I first installed the software and started up the card, it worked perfectly. The next day I tried it again, and couldn't get it to work. I waited a couple of hours because it said try again later. It still didn't work. I spent at least an hour on the phone with Verizon uninstalling, reinstalling and trying all kinds of different settings. Finally I turned off my firewall and it worked. I tried to do a couple of things, but after about 3 minutes it was gone again. I tried several more times, but couldn't get it back at all. I called support back and went through the whole song and dance again. This time I got connected through a "dial up" he game me. He left me to download new software from the website. That connection went down every 5-8 minutes so I couldn't get the download completed. I finally gave up. I waited until I got home to try it again. I downloaded the software off the internet, and installed it. Still no go. I tried all of the things Verizon told me to do, and at one point I thought I had it, but that lasted about another 5 minutes.

Can Someone please help, I really need this to work by Tuesday.

I apologize if this is in the wrong section of the site.
I have a Verizon HP Netbook that connects fine using the pre-installed software for Verizon, but when I install the software to use my Sprint aircard, the Verizon connection will no longer work. Verizon says its HP's problem, and HP says its Verizons problem.

Uninstalled the Sprint software, uninstalled the Verizon software reboot and then re-installed the Verizon software and that did not fix. Did a system restore at the request of Verizon and that did not fix.

WHAT in the Sprint install is changing the settings for the Verizon software so that it will not work and how can I change it back?

I had Installed Verizons DSL software on 1 of my machines. Anyway I had noticed activity leading me to suspect a spyware/Trojan infection. I downloaded a copy of Spybot S&D, updated it and ran it. It would get just a short way thru the scan and abort. (Scan aborted by user) But I didnt abort it. This made me very suspicious. I opened the task manager and looked at the currently running Proceses. I noticed 3 that I had no knowledge of. MotiveBrowser.exe, VzOpenUIServer.exe, and MotiveSB.exe. I did a search and found a Motive directory in my program files directory. Next I shut down all 3 processes by right clicking and clicking End Process tree. That killed all 3 processes. I then tried running Spybot. No problems at this point.
Anyway I had traced all these programs to the Verizon Installation so I opened Control panel--> Add remove Programs and removed all of it. No more problems at this point. Spybot functions fine. I did a Hyjackthis scan and it looks clean.
I guess the point of this is to not install any software that you don't need. At the time I didn't realise, I didn't need it.

"MotiveBrowser.exe"."VzOpenUIServer.exe" "MotiveSB.exe" ...I did a Hyjackthis scan and it looks clean. Are you trained in the use and investigation of the entries listed in the log this program generates?HijackThis is an advanced tool that requires advanced knowledge about the Windows Operating System. Most of the log entries are required to run a computer and removing essential ones can potentially cause serious damage such as your Internet no longer working or problems with running Windows itself. HijackThis is an enumerator and similar in some respects to a registry editor program which displays areas of the Windows registry where the majority of Viruses, Trojans, Spyware, Adware, and Malware reside. HJT will scan certain areas of your system and then create a log to help diagnose the presence of undetected malware in these known hiding places. It then relies on experts to interpret the log entries and determine what needs to be fixed. Futher, removing entries in HJT before the problem is properly identified can make the malware undetectable to other detection and removal tools. Full system scanning tools like Ad-aware, Spybot S&D and SpySweeper will remove the registry entries as well as the related files which results in a more complete removal process. HJT this should only be used to clean up the entries left behind, after you have properly removed the malware. If you do not have advanced knowledge about computers you should NOT fix anyth... I signed up for Verizon DSL at the come-on rate of $15/mo. Then without my knowledge or permission someone at Verizon decided I wasn't paying enough so they upped my monthly rate to $37.00. I pay my bills thru my bank so a check for a certain amount is drawn and Verizon got there check each month. Then I get a call from them telling me my account is $200 and some odd dollars overdue and their going to disconnect my service.

After spending hours on the phone with the customer service supervisors we cleared up their mistake. This was 2 years ago. A few days ago I got another call from Verizon telling me my account was overdue by $125.00 and they were going to cancel my account again. Guess what? Yep. Someone at Verizon decided I wasn't paying enough and they upped my monthly fee to 25.00 without telling me.

Be careful with Verizon...they will get you to pay more no mater what you sign up for.

Two days ago my friends could no longer access the email and files on my ftp. I can still access these things as I am inside the network however outside the network no one can access anything, the connection times out. There is nothing wrong with the server, as I can still access it. At first I thought it was something wrong with configuration on router or server, so I set up a site on my regular PC real fast on port 5600, and forwarded ports on router. I had someone outside network try to access it and no luck, it times out. I have begun to think that Verizon has blocked all ports on their service instead of just port 80. My friend also has Verizon DSL and I setup remote access to his router. When I got home and tried to connect to it, it also times out. If it were getting a connection it would have at least refused the connection, but the request never even reached his router.

Has anyone else had this problem? Do you think Verizon has blocked everything??

I run a small mobile business. i pull a small trailer that i work out of. I use a laptop and verizon mobile internet. The modem they gave me is the UM-150, i believe.(looks like a small candy bar) It has a fold out male usb connector.
I have been through 2 of them already due to taking my laptop in and out of my truck. The male connector becomes loose and the soldered wires sever and its over. It is very cheap!! I have tried a wire extension, and used velcro to keep the modem on the back side of the screen. Opening and closing the laptop eventually wore out the connector once again. They only give you two replacements with the insurance @ $50 a pop. They will not let me trade for a pc card either.
Is there a way to create my own little mobile wireless network in my vehicle? I was thinking i could install a wireless router in the truck and leave the modem hooked up to it. This service requires you to connect through their software each time you surf the internet. I'm no IT guy, but that seems to be a problem. The guy at verizon didn't think it could be done. Any advice??

Hi All.

I just switched from dial up to Verizon DSL. I set up all equipment correctly, but for some reason I couldn't set up an account. It kept telling me a problem was detected. So, I called tech support. The tech walked me through setting up my account using his administrative stuff. No clue what he did. Anyway, so my account is set up. I decide I need to download yahoo or msn, which is free with the service. I really want this for the virus scan. It goes through the steps of downloading some files from Verizon, installs them then nothing. It takes me back to the same screen and says I need to download files (which I already did) I try this a few times and same thing. So I get annoyed and move on. Now I want to download their PC doctor. Again, goes through the steps of downloading, says it's installing then tells me I need to insall the files again. This happens again with the verizon toolbar. So, for some reason, I can't download from the verizon website. I can download from other sites no problem. I call tech support and he tells me something is blocking the download. We turn off virus scan, firewall, change security settings, do sharing. After an hour and a half, he tells me he can't find the problem. Anybody have a clue as to what else it could be? I am running XP with SP2. Thanks.

I'm having a problem finding an easy email client. I was using Incredimail which handled Verizon with no problems but I found I could not send an attachment at all. I don't like using the Verizon Web Mail on site. I also have OE which works ok but would prefer another client.
Can someone tell me how to set up Thunderbird to send mail and not have it picked up as spam. I have read some of the articles but they do not tell you how to. I have a verizon.net address.
Why is it Incredimail emails can go through but not Thunderbird emails?

I am running XP SP3. I use Thunderbird. My ISP is Verizon FIOS broad band. I have an email account at a university. I set up my email and everything worked well for over a year. For several months I have had some trouble sending to AOL email addresses. Yahoo also became a problem, but I don't think it was consistent. This past weekend I discovered that I could not send email, either directly or as a reply, to ANYONE.

I still can use the university's web mail access to my email and it works, both incoming and outgoing, but it is inconvenient and I like, and am used to, Thunderbird, and Thunderbird has more capabilities. I called the HELP desk at the university. They noted that on Thursday Verizon did something, somehow related to a SPAM protector, that is causing havoc. They tried to help by having me switch the outgoing server to Verizon, having me set up a Verizon Yahoo account to verify the outgoing server and we tried changing the PORT to 587 from the default 25. Nothing worked. They said call Verizon. Verizon was no help and in fact was upset that I use the university's email.

Verizon DSL working sometimes.

My Aunt has Verizon DSL that was working fine until about a month and a half ago.

Sometimes when she started her computer she could connect and sometimes she could click on IE a few times and get on and sometimes she would have to restart. Also, sometimes if she was off of the computer for a couple of hours she couldn't get on although it was working when she was on earlier.

They sent her a new modem and that didn't help.

She talked to a tech who said it was not in the house and they would send someone out and then called her and said they were able to fix the problem from the office.

Still the same problem.

What should I look for if it's not on Verizon's end?

Also, she is 8 hours away from me but I can use SkyFexFree to see her computer.

Please bear with me, newbie here!

I use Firefox browser on my Dell laptop with Win XP SP3 and have Verizon/Yahoo DSL (the slower version).

A few days ago out of the blue I couldn't login to my regular email through desktop shortcut/sign-in box. Had to use webmail to get there.

Now, I can't get into my Verizon Webspace website, several of the help sections won't even load and, well, their support is non-existant.

I've tried upgraded to IE8 - which made things worse, so I uninstalled it. I updated Firefox, and just about every other program on my PC. Then I got mad and uninstalled most everything Verizon/Yahoo with the intentions of re-installing them - piece by piece.

Not sure if the problem is Firefox, Yahoo or Verizon....but pointing towards Verizon.

I downloaded RegCure but haven't paid for the "fixes" yet. Wanted to wait to see if that is in fact what I need.

Can anyone help?

Not sure if this helps any....I'm using AVG as well, nothing has come up in scans other than tracking cookies. Downloaded it a couple weeks ago, since Verizon got rid of Norton.

Hi all. Thanks for your help. I just found this forum and I'm fairly decent with the computer so be gentle...

I've lived at my house for 5 years now. Always had problems with Verizon DSL. There would be weeks where the modem would not stay connected. The phone lines were full of static. Verizon said it's the modem's problem. I replaced 4 modems and got sick of it. Finally, after 5 years, they had a tech come in and "fix" the lines. Over the last four weeks (never before), my PS3 will kick me off EA's FIFA 13 server and EA's Battlefield 3's server. I do not disconnect from the Internet, the PS3 network, or even the game itself. Just the game's servers. Since both games are from EA, I figured it was a problem on their end. I contacted the company and did everything they suggested...deleted game data, restarts, power cycles, etc. They finally said that it has to be with Verzion. They gave me a list of ports for the router to open for FIFA. Verizon said that they do not open ports because I can connect to the internet (play games, use laptop, iPads, etc). They said I can buy some extra service for $30 to help with ports to open. I figured since I've been in their modem's setting so many times, this is something that I may be able to handle myself (especially if this doesn't fix the problem for $30).

I'm stuck. I have a list of ports for FIFA UDP: 3074; 3659; 6000
TCP: 80; 443; 10000 - 10099; 42127; 3659

Check the Verizon email filters, perhaps they consider email from AOL as SPAM.

Sorry I didn't know if I could post this in malware section-Forgive me if this is wrong. Malware gurus: Would it be helpful or hurt to try to get infected XP Windows machine online via help from Verizon-doing things in menus while waiting for help? I cannot post the GMER file from netbook says file was over 512 at around 782. I am currently on non-secured network with netbook. I posted what I could all but gmer.

I am waiting for verizon to send router/modem however i was able to get online just wireless would not set up but now cannot & driver loaded but says network card disconnected. I don't know if it would be helpful to try to get machine online with Verizon before help arrives.

Computer hell for 2 or 3 weeks...Also I was hoping to print out fed tax forms to do taxes/need schedule C etc-don't have print driver for netbook/don't know if I can use printer with this netbook which has Windows 7 starter gotta find out from HP or ASUS.

A:can't get online via Verizon DSL

You are good as is...I just checked and the DDS log is there.

Once someone picks up your topic, they will assist you in getting any other info that they would like.

Good luck .

Well, my two years for FiOS ran out, so I ended up changing the service and managed to get it for a few bucks less for a year with better packages all around. The Internet is supposed to be 35/35, but I've never been able to get the full claim upload bandwidth. OTHO, it's a lot faster than the 20/5 service I had until today.

I just ordered Verizon Fios, it works fine, both wireless and plug in on my mac, but I can't figure out how to set it up on my roommates laptop. It's a Gateway, not terribly old I think. The people that scammed my roommate into buying this comp for 3x what it's worth screwed up the set up bad, they installed the desktop version of the software instead of the laptop version so it has no clue it's a laptop, when it closes it shuts down, and it has to be plugged in (it doesn't realize it has a battery so it doesn't attempt to charge) anyway, I'm fairly skilled with windows, I work with windows, and used windows in school, but this appears to be set up retro or something, I can't find any way to make it work with anything except non-wireless dial-up. It doesn't seem to know there is anything else, and doesn't have any options in the control panel to set something up (other then dial up) either. Anyone know what to do?

I have tried seven different networks. 5 routers and 2 verizon hot spots. I am using 2 Laptops with windows 10. I have an HP 1102W wireless printer and I have a Brother HL-5240

On the 5 routers and one verizon Hot Spot I can do the following:

1. I can share PCs and printers using Password protected sharing. I can set up Wireless printers on the network and share them. I can connect a printer to a computer and share it with other computers.
2. I can set up a home group and share printers and set up wireless printers and share them.

On the problem Verizon Hot Spot all I can do is connect to the internet.
1. I cannot even see the other laptops on the network.
2. I cannot set up the Wireless printer on the network
3. I can create a homegroup, but I cannot join it with the other laptop.

Network Discovery is on
I have checked settings-Manage known networks - and Make this PC discoverable is ON
I have compared settings on the laptop under all networks. they are the same
I have played with the settings on the Hotspot with no results.
I have reset the setting on the Hotspot to default settings.

Any help in solving problem would be appreciated
