500-14ISK Screen turns off on battery

Q: 500-14ISK Screen turns off on battery

Hello, I've had a problem with my 500-14ISK where the screen will instantly turn off when running on battery. This happens in the bios and withing the OS. As far as I can tell it is not just dimming the screen/backlight. It is slowly driving me mad not being able to move around with a laptop. So far I have tried the following. Reinstalled Windows 10Updated Intel and Nvidia driversUpdate Intel ME softwareReinstalled latest bios (D3CN35WW)Rolled back to all previous available bios versions (D3CN28WW, D3CN34WW, D3CN35WW)Downgraded Intel & Nvidia driversDowngraded Intel ME SoftwareBooted to Debian live disk to test same behaviour. Tried a different chargerSearched the many forums posts with people that have similar issues, saying to try a linked Intel ME version or trying new windows profiles even though this happens outside of windows. Let the battery die completely Turned on conservation mode for the battery with the AC plugged in. The screen then turns off as it tries to run off battery.Ran the Lenovo system update toolsRan the Lenovo diagnostics tools. All OK.Searched the Lenovo Reddit subreddit to see other people with similar problems and no answer. Have I missed anything? I can't believe support for a product can just blankly end like this when it can be seen that a continued number of people are having a problem with the laptop which still falls within EU warranties.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hi. When I'm working on my Flex 3 on battery only, after about 20 minutes, the screen will "turn off." I use quotations because the sreen turns black but it is back-lit. Sound still works. No buttons get me out of this frozen state and I have to hard restart the computer. Anybody else have this issue? Computer is 1 month old. Thanks!

A:Flex 3 screen turns off when working on battery

I have exactly the same problem. Works fine when plugged in, but absolutely useless on battery, due to this random "black screen". My screen too is backlit, but the only way I have found to "wake-up" the screen is to reboot the computer. My Flex 3 came from Costco, and I am planning to return it.

Hi my friends, before I say what is the problem and which process I passed last few weeks. My computer model is Yoga 500 14ISK. 3 months ago it started not charging battery and I think that is just self protection for battery and I didn't care for 2 months, because I wasn't using battery anyway. But But when I search internet few weeks ago I realize that is a system problem. Also after decrease to %0 and when I plug in the electricity, it wouldn't let me open computer at least 10-15 minutes. Then I started to search solutions. These are what I did so far: First, I check battery if it is okey, and because of only 2 years old laptop and I didn't use battery so much it says battery is healthy like new one. Second, I found the lenovo optimizer program and try the calibrate the battery, I started program and wait for 8 hours. At the and it said unsuccessfull and also said battery not detected. Before you suggest that my battery is not removable and I cannot reach unless if I remove all laptop. So where I stand is and main question that; what is the problem and how can I fix it? Thanks.

Hello, I bought a Yoga 710-14ISK in november 2016. I am very satisfied by this product, but for a few months, something strange happens with the battery. When it reaches 40% on battery power (not charging), sometimes the computer warns that the battery is low, the percentage of the battery change to 1%, and then the computer immediatly switch off. It doesn't happens every time, I would say in 20% of the cases. Of course it is very annoying. And this week, it happened with the battery was around 60% (not sure exactly). Any idea of the reason of this problem ? Of course it started a few months after the expiration of the warranty... Thanks !

Hi, There seems to be a problem with the power management on my T570. I have two batteries, and I think the main one to be used is the battery 2. Sometimes, I'll be working unplugged, and my computer randomly turns off. Not the usual "Windows turning off" sequence, but an immediate blackout with no feedback. When I turn the computer back on, I see that Battery 2 is at 0% and Battery 1 is now in use. It does seem to be a problem in the power management, no? Thank you,Fred

A:My computer turns off immediately when Battery 2 reaches 0%, even if Battery 1 is 100%

Sounds like power management or battery reporting status wrong. Are you still under warranty? If yes, call support first. Can you get (borrow) another battery to try?

Hey there,
I've been using my upgraded Inpiron 17R SE happily for a couple of years by now. I've even gone as far as buying an 128GB SSD to futureproof it. This is the only drive - besides the DVD drive - currently present in the laptop. However I've had an issue for quite a while:
Whenever I try to boot the Laptop only using the Battery (even fully charged) it Posts then loads Windows and turns of just before the Login-Screen (I can't see it). When I proceed to turn it back on, it Posts then beeps and says that there is a Real Time Clock Error and gives me the option to proceed booting or to enter Setup.
This however doesn't occur when using the Power-Brick. Moreover it isn't always the case. Sometimes the Laptop boots and works fine just using the battery, but then upon opening a Programm (while under battery-power) it shuts of and gives the same error message again. If it decides to work the battery still lasts for 2-2.5 hours.
I'm really confused to what the problem is. It could be a power delivery problem, but it's still the original battery and laptop with only the HDD changed to a SSD.
I'm aware of it being a rather old machine, but selling it is my only hope for getting a new laptop for college, but I can't sell it in this state.
I'm at a lost and really really sad because of this issue. I'm sorry for any typos or grammar mistakes, I'm a non native english speaker.

Hi I recently bought an Ideapad Y700-14isk. The model is 80NU000WUS. I am having issues with the battery. Since the first day the battery life has been very poor. While using windows 10 power saving settings, and also graphics options set to power save, I am only able to get 1.5-2 hours when running minimal programs and no games. I just use chrome to study but the battery life is incredibly poor. Has anyone else been having issues with the 14" version? I was wondering if the battery is upgradeable to a higher capacity, and where I could possibly buy one from. I understand its a gaming laptop but 2 hours on a full charge while studying power point slides in the chrome browser is just too poor for me. Please let me know if any of you have this issue, and if there is a way to buy a higher capacity battery. Any input helps. Thanks in advance. I spoke to tech support twice and both times they seemed very clueless. A couple of weeks ago, Lenovo Vantage offered a bios update to version D3CN38WW. However, after I installed it, it seems that my battery cannot be charged any further than 15%. Also, charging from, say, 10% to 15% takes ages. Prior to this bios update, I never had any issues with this. I do not use the laptop a whole lot and when I do it is always connected to AC power. At first I already noticed that the battery level was lower than I expected (~40% while I use the battery preservation mode, so I had expected something around 60%), but this week I saw that it had dropped really low and that it won't charge past 15% anymore. What I tried to resolve it: - Charge the laptop while it is turned off. Doesn't do anything, the power brick hardly generates any heat. This would rule out any OS/software issues.- Try different settings (i.e.: turning on/off) for battery preservation and quick charging in Lenovo Vantage. None of these helped. What is peculiar is that Lenovo Vantage says that the battery's condition is good, but that the charger has limited support. The last thing is particularly odd, as it is the charger that came with the laptop when I bought it. I do not know that it said prior to these problems, as I usually didn't pay much attention to what Vantage was saying. As far as I can see, the bios update introduced this problem. I found someone with a similar problem here

Desktop #2 Problem:
I bought some 3M Dust Remover a few days ago. I disconnected power, along with everything else, from a desktop of mine. Pulled the cover off and started blowing the dust out of the case. I put everything back together, plugged it in, and the desktop doesn't work. It boots to a blank screen with the the power and hard drive led's stuck on, on the front of the desktop. The led on the back of the power supply turns on, I can hear the hard drive spin up, it detects the cd/dvd drives, floppy drive and then just hangs with the led's stuck on. Anyone have an idea what might be going on here?

Thanks for the help, I'm hoping to get atleast one of these back online w/o buying a whole new desktop.

A:HELP! Desktop turns on and restarts repeatedly, other turns on to black screen

Hi….

Desktop 1:

Do you see anything on your screen at all while this is happening?

Have you tried to press the setup key to see if the BIOS will come up and make changes?

Do you have any USB devices (other than keyboard or mouse) hooked up? If so, try disconnecting them and see if it will at least POST or attempt to go into the OS.

WARNING: Before checking the capacitors, disconnect the power cord on your system and press & hold the POWER button to allow the power to discharge! Also, you should always ground yourself before touching computer components to prevent static discharge!

Just FYI, some of the motherboards in this series of HP’s have issues with the capacitors.

You should take a look at the capacitors to see if the tops of them are raised or discolored. Also, if you put your finger on the top of the capacitors, they should feel as if they are INDENTED and not flush or raised. Raising or discoloration (up to and including a black tar looking substance on the tops indicate a leaking capacitor).

Desktop 2:

Any POST sounds (beeps) produced at all?

Have you tried the monitor from Desktop 1 on this one?

Anything at all displayed on the monitor, to include CHECK CABLE message?

Recommendation: Open the case again and ensure that all the cards, memory, drive cables and so forth are all connect properly and not loose or dislodged.

Do you know how to RESET your BIOS to default using the onboard jumpers?

Then it started back up, seemingly normal, with the prompt below it saying, press any key within ... seconds to skip disk scan. I allowed it to continue, then "LENOVO" came on the screen and "Scan disk and repair 100%". After that the screen is blank and all I see is the cursor. As the move the cursor around on the screen I see it change from the regular cursor, to the typing one, and then to the pointed finger. I'm not super tech savvy and would really appreciate some help! Replace the battery. They don't last forever and this is what happens when they die.

I strongly recommend getting the OEM battery and not a cheap chinese knockoff. I never take chances with ink/toner and batteries. The real deal or nothing.

So HP laptops have a tendency of overheating... and when they do, they power off immediately. This is NOT that issue. When I'm working solely on my battery (no AC charger) My laptop will turn off in maybe 45 minutes... I keep an eye on the battery level and it never drops to below 20% when this occurs. The laptop isn't burning hot and no error/warning messages are displayed (and no beeps).... Just poof power off. Ive downloaded the newest HP support assistant and ran the battery test and it said it was fine.I've tried to the manual calibration (since Support assistant isn't giving me the option to calibrate it) where I do the diagnostic logic (F2) and run the Hard Drive test on Battery until the laptop dies... Plugged in the charger and restarted.. what do you know, battery was at 40%... on the battery battery level button is showing half-charge.... So what do I do when the laptop is saying battery is good - not replace... How do I force that calibration? Something is wrong in that the power is dying half-way through the power cycle. Apprecaite any advice!

I bought Lenovo Yoga 500-14ISK (i7 6200, 8GB RAM, 1TB, 2GB Nvidia). Machine performance is not as good what the specs looks. Machine took quite long to startup initally, when you close lid the machine goes into standby/sleep mode but upon opening the lid machine doesnt show up anything on screen and BIOS setting shows System Memonry a RAM as 0MB.

This machine has already been replaced once as it was brand new and found these issues 2 days after buying, they gave me a new machine but new also has same issues. I updated all drivers, windows update and even tried one key recorvery (also windows 10 reset - remove everything). But problems remained same.

Being techinical guy at first thought did not try using the BIOS utility on this machine as model number were different (In list of machine supported this machine was listed). After trying hands on other solutions, I tried running the BIOS utility and it failed (as expected - This BIOS utility is not for this model).

Hi Nonplusmx,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

You can try to connect it to an external monitor to check if the display shows ok.
Check if moving the screen in different angles helps correct the display.

Contact technical support or the store and have them informed of what is happening as soon as you tried the above steps.

Hope this helps answer your query.

Whenever I turn on my Yoga 500 the Lenovo logo and the loading wheel both turn red, then the Windows logon screen, and the desktop are both tinted red. Then after a little while it all goes back to normal. This happens every time I turn it on, I have tried updating drivers and it hasnt changed anything. Someone please help, never seen anything like this.

Whenever I unplug my computer from its charging cord it automatically turns off. I was having this problem before, but replaced the battery with a brand new one. It was working fine and I broke in the battery by charging and discharging it fully for the first 3 cycles and the laptop was working well without power for the past week since I got it, other than taking a minute or so to respond to me pushing the power on button before working when it was not connected to the cord. Now this morning it switches off whenever I unplug it even though the battery says it is at 100% charge and still charging. But, the light on the side of my power port is on red/orange when I have it plugged in, but only when it's lid is closed and it is fully booted up. I checked on other forum answers and tried changing to different power saving plans and even switching all options to 'never' but nothing has worked.I also looked at the pins underneath my laptop where my battery should go to see if they are damaged. Two of them are on a different angle to the rest but I think this is how the laptop was built anyway? I dont want to move them incase it just makes the situation worse. What should I try next? I would like this fixed ASAP as I need this laptop for school and often don't have access to a power plug in class. Thankyou.

Dell Inspiron N5110 running Windows 7.
When not in use I have to remove the battery or else the thing turns itself on within a few seconds of shutting down or just having the battery inserted.
It DOESN'T do this when the charger is connected to the laptop and mains electricity. If the charger is connected to the laptop but not to the mains then the laptop will also turn itself on.
Any bright ideas?
