Inspiron 560: Rollback to Original BIOS and Reinstall New BIOS if Needed (unique details)

Q: Inspiron 560: Rollback to Original BIOS and Reinstall New BIOS if Needed (unique details)

Hello I upgraded my BIOS recently (I believe from A04 to A06) because I felt it might be needed to support a CPU upgrade. Problem is, the new BIOS adds no new features that I can see, and takes 10 seconds longer to boot. Fastboot is enabled. This is a problem, since I recently installed an SSD and this new BIOS appears to be doing nothing, and is getting in the way of an otherwise lightning fast boot.
What is the correct procedure for restoring the system to the BIOS which it shipped with? I think I can remove the battery, but is there not a preferred method? Also, it is remotely possible, given the processor upgrade, that the old BIOS will not boot. I would prefer not to put in the old processor, reinstall the new BIOS, put in the new processor... Decades ago, a floppy disk would have come to the rescue, I believe Dell has a procedure for installing a new BIOS from a flash drive if a system fails to boot, what is the correct procedure?
Thank you in advance for your assistance.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hello, Problem 1:I've set the supervisor password some time ago on my T450s. I think I used the special character "!" which was accepted at that time, but I'm not sure anymore today. Now after severeal BIOS updates the "!" only leads to a beep of the system and I also tried all of my standard-passwords without "!" , but without success. Problem 2:Now I've tried to roll back to older BIOS versions to try if one of these accepts the "!". But every version I tried leads to a "secure flash authentication failed"-error after the reboot of the laptop to actually flash the BIOS. The following link says its the Rollback Prevention Enabled, but I checked in BIOS and it's clearly disabled.https://support.lenovo.com/sg/de/solutions/ht117858 Now I have no idea how to proceed. Has anyone seen that the BIOS has accepted special characters like "!"?Are there other T450s which are not able to rollback to older BIOS versions with the above mentioned error? Technical Infos:- Model: ThinkPad T450s 20BW-S03E00 (the one with Intel graphics only and a core i5-5200)- BIOS: 1.29(JBET65WW) Thanks in advance!  Best regards,Linus123

I have installed the "pulled" BIOS update for Spectre/Meltdown, and now have significant stability issues. There are no instructions on this page of how to rollback this update: https://support.lenovo.com/us/en/solutions/len-18282 In this situation, does Lenovo advise re-installing an older BIOS? Or is there a solution coming very soon? It's been several week without any updates.

A:How to rollback withdrawn BIOS (CPU Microcode) Update? - T550 BIOS 1.19

Downgrade to older BIOS version will not help, as installer won't be able to downgrade CPU microcode. Currently Lenovo and Intel are working to provide a solution which allow downgrade to previous microcode. They have adviced to wait till downgrade method will be developed. But... you can do something to restore stability of your system. It was found, that stability issues are present, when OS is using fixes against meltdown/spectre. Actually, you can disable them. Below you'll find a guide:https://winaero.com/blog/disable-meltdown-fix-amd-cpus-installing-kb4056892/ Personally, I've tested it on few devices and stablility issues were no longer present.

I updated the BIOS from 1.2.0 to 1.4.0 for my New Inspiron 13 7000 (7378) in Windows 10 (64bit) using the executable available from Dell's website for this particular model:

This BIOS update (1.4.0) is quite recent and was released on January 6th, 2017. I followed all safety procedures (e.g. using AC power), and I did not see any error messages during the update. But when the computer finally rebooted the second time (it seemed to have first rebooted once to install the update), I got this error message:
Boot Guard verified FailedSystem will shutdownPress any key
The system wasn't even able to load the BIOS, indicating a critical error happened during the BIOS update. After spending some time searching for a solution to my bricked system (and panicking), I was able to recover the BIOS using this procedure on Dell's website for Convertible / Detachable with the external USB key method:

Now, everything works fine using the BIOS version 1.4.0. Not sure what went wrong with updating the BIOS from Windows 10.

The same issue from BIOS 1.2.5 is happening with BIOS 1.2.6. After the update, the boot screen remain totally black (no Dell logo) and you cant enter in the BIOS interface (no video at all).
The workaround is to downgrade to BIOS version 1.2.3
The windows boots as usual, and maybe this is the reason that users havent noticed this issue.
The bios upgrade/downgrade is automated. No mouse clicks are needed. Just wait computer to boot and wait some minutes. After this (blind) downgrade (because there is no video), you will see the dell logo once again and everything works as usual.

Hello all,The built-in "Lenovo Update" agent program recommended a BIOS update v1.23 (it's a critical update), so I did. And then my system doesn't boot: it's hangs on the "Starting Windows" logo page (Windows 7 64 bit). So I am trying to rollback to the last working version v1.21. Confirmed that my machine is type 20CL, went here, go the bootable CD, successfully went to the BIOS Update Utility, and then it said: "system program file is not correct for this system" ? The followings settings in BIOS were applied to try enable a rollback of BIOS but failed...??? * I am sure: - my download was correct- no issue on handling the ISO burning to CD- this has nothing to do with Windows or operating system* Any idea folks?I really really need my system back... Thanks.Angus

I would like to roll back the bios from 5ECN96WW(v9.01) to 5ECN95WW(9.00)the problem is, the insydeFlash utility will not allow the flash because v.9.00 is not a secure biosI know that quite a lot of people seem to have the same problem.I also read that Lenovo is not responding...I believe i know the reason why they are not responding.I guess it is because they know that they have to provide a way to go back to the old bios because the new bios is imposing restrictions the old one didnt. Some responders stated the "NO WARRENTY" clause as a reason why it was the users fault, but these responses were not from lenovo officials... Why not ? The answer is easy. It is not a matter of warrenty. If you sell a product, you cannot later on impose restrictions on the product that are not part of the initial contract.Consider buying Photoshop and installing an update would (without notice) remove the possibility to Save your Files and they wouldnt allow you to uninstall the update again. it is rediculous.I think lenovo know they messed up and now they try to simply ignore the problem and hope noone will realize the  true nature of the problem. So maybe a lenovo official will answer this post because i am not going to call the support again to talk to some poor callcenter schmock...I know this is supposed to be a user forum but as i couldnt find a single email to send my request to, i think i will put it in here anyways.Customer SUPPORT is not really the right word for the services leno... I have the Dell Inspiron 518 desktop with 64 bit Vista, and attempted to update the BIOS to version 1.0.7 last evening.  I closed all open programs, disabled anti-virus, and ran the BIOS update as administrator.  The update began and asked if I would like to update from version 1.0.5 to 1.0.7, and I clicked on the update button.  The BIOS flash began by deleting the previous BIOS and then attempted to install the new 1.0.7 BIOS but produced an error message similar to "error writing BIOS to block," an the only option was to cancel the update.  I knew I did not have any BIOS installed at that point, but my computer was still operating so I made an additional attempt to re-download the 1.0.7 BIOS and re-install it.  No good, it would not even run now.  There was no turning back and no way to reinstall either the previous BIOS or the new one.  Eventually I tried to restart the computer, and it would not start.
Dell is sending a tech next week to replace the motherboard on this otherwise great computer that is only about two months old.
DO NOT upgrade the BIOS on a Inspiron 518 with 64 Bit Vista to version 1.0.7.  The upgrade does not work and will kill your motherboard.

A:Dell Inspiron 518 BIOS v1.0.7 64 Bit Vista DO NOT UPGRADE BIOS

No it happened to me too.  Dell is replacing the motherboard under warranty but I was told somewhat firmly not to update the BIOS unless advised by a technican.  In my defense the BIOS update was listed as "recommended" under the download section for this unit on the Dell support website.
I would recommend to avoid two phone calls (over 40 minutes each) to tech support and several days waiting for a new motherboard, not to update the BIOS at this time.
Thankfully it is being covered under warranty.

I attempted to update the BIOS on my Inspiron 5565 (AMD-A10 9600P) from .1.0.5 to v1.0.8 using the 'BIOS flash update' with the BIOS update file downloaded (and md5 hash verified on a usb key) from the drivers download page:
I followed the instructions on this support page:
to copy the BIOS update file to the USB but when I find and select the file in the 'BIOS flash update' function it reads the USB key (usb key read/write light flashing) but prompts with 'Invalid file!'. I have not renamed the file at all and I also tried to update to the other downloadable BIOS update file, v1.0.6 but get the same error message 'Invalid File!'
Reason for trying to update via the BIOS update feature is that I have a blank hard drive and I'm having trouble loading Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS (but seem to have no issue with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) so trying to update the BIOS as first troubleshooting elimination step.
Any tips or suggestions most appreciated.

I got an issue with the latest bios (2.29) for HP Elite 8200 Desktop computers. When i reboot Windows 10, then the computer "freezes" for 2 minutes before the initial POST (when the HP logo should appear). And this only happens with Windows 10 and bios version 2.29. Windows 10 and bios version 2.28 don't seem to be affected. The normal reboot process for Windows 10: computer turns off, then turns on, the HP logo appears after a few seconds and the boot process starts. With bios v2.29 the reboot process for Windows 10: computer turns off, then turns on, 2 minute "freeze" (black screen), then the HP logo appears and the boot process starts. My question is: how can i rollback the bios on HP Elite 8200 desktops? I would like to rollback to version 2.28, but the conventional methods don't work here. Neither the flash option in the bios, nor the standalone flashing software is willing to flash an older bios over the newer one.

A:Rollback bios on HP Elite 8200 Desktop

Hi: You can't roll back the BIOS. If you don't use the Trusted Platform Module for Bitlocker, you can disable it and the PC will boot up normally. Restart the PC, then start tapping the ESC key until you are presented with the boot option menu. From there, select SYSTEM SETUP.   Once inside SYSTEM SETUP, select SECURITY, inside that menu select DEVICE SECURITY. Once inside that menu, select EMBEDDED SECURITY DEVICE ---> DEVICE AVAILABLE, change this setting to DEVICE HIDDEN. Press F10 to save, and then go back in to double check it is HIDDEN. Exit BIOS by saving all changes. Reboot

Since updating to bios revision A0.18 when booting I get about 45 seconds of BIOS beeping error codes before the system finally boots. In addition my computer is no longer able to sleep. While I can use my computer still it is very inconvenient. I looked up the error codes for the beeps are it is related to the second graphics card I have installed. However things were fine before the update so I would like to roll back to a previous BIOS version. However the details in this BIOS udpate state you cannot go back to an earlier version. I have tried the install process for the previous BIOS with sp76788.exe to check and it tells me it is not compatible with my system. So the question is am I truly stuck with this BIOS version or is it in fact possibly to go back to an earlier version through a method such as one of the BIOS utilities in the boot process? I realized I have left out details on my graphics card (NVIDIA GeForce GT 520) and the actual number of bios error beeps but I am really just interested in going back to an earlier version if possible over troubleshooting this BIOS.

I bought a p50-70 as is, without a working screen. It works fine, just no screen and have to use the HDMI cable. I went into the bios and accidently enabled lenovoboot, which only enableds the internal LCD at boot until POST, so I can't see the bios and the hDmi gets no input until the OS loads drivers. Was hoping someone could give me the key strokes needed to unenable secureboot, and unenable lenovoboot. I have efi enabled, so assume the keystrokes  needed would be from there. I have a yoga2 pro, I tried the keystrokes from that bios there but I don't think the same options are listed. HHopefully someone can offer some guidance on this or post a video of the stock bios and I can go from there. CHecked youtube, none showing the bios clearly enough. Why lenovo offers something as stupid as lenovoboot is beyond me.

My bios udated yesterday
On the first try the system locked up with the very helpful message "do not disconnect or turn off the computer" I couldnt if I wanted as nothing was working. After an hour I took a chance and held down the power button until it turned off. I re-started the laptop and eventually the bios update message appeared again - this time it installed without any problems.
Does anyone know what issues/bugs have been fixed or if any new features introduced? Its just nice to know.

I am glad to see that the laptop still gets some support - even if we dont really know what it is!

It would be great to get a touchpad driver update that enabled the adjustment of touchpad sensitivity and disable the touchpad click - I prefer to use the two "mouse" clickers underneath the touchpad.

Older Gateway P3 500mhz last week was working fine...
I don't know the exact details it is my mom's PC and I am giving it a whirl at it... Was working fine then one day she says everytime she boots after bios black screen says"no OS found"

So I pick up thePC and bios won't and can't find a Hard drive.
Maybe bad drive, I remove and replace it with a good one w/ OS already installed.. NO OS found..
I insert Windows Xp disc in CD rom and it loads drivers and then begin to install, next "windows can't continue no HD detected.

Back to bios check Periph.. no primary (none)
secondary shows (cd rom)

I try swapping out

Hard drives..
New ribbon cable...
Switch IDE spots on mobo...
Try to run HD & CD on same line set one for slave.. (didn't work)
Try hooking up HD and remove CD
Bios still shows None for primary and secondary...

Bios recognizes CD roms... but won't detect any HD's...

I try to reset Bios (nvidia) w/ jumper... still same
Removed battery cleaned contacts ... still won't find HD
Ok I'm at wits end .. can't think of anything else to try...

Beg and plead anyone w/ ideas feel free to post...

Truly appreciate any help and suggestions

A:Bios/PC can't find HD details inside

Have you tried a different power connector on the hard drive? Also try entering the hard drive parameters manually in the BIOS.

Good luck.

On a side note, it is possible that the CMOS battery is dead. On some older machines if the battery goes the BIOS won't detect the hard drive.

Hello to the BleepingComputer community,First of all I'm sorry I haven't finished some of the steps from the Preparation Guide. It's because these steps require a reboot (e.g. Step 6: Disable your CD Emulation Software - DeFogger will ask me to reboot the machine), and I have a bad feeling about the question if it is safe to reboot in my situation: I'm not sure if I have a type of malware which is ready to infect the BIOS - if it is so, then it could infect it much easier during the reboot process.- If there is a good way to find out what is the problem (and fix the BIOS threat part if it really is present) without rebooting / shutting down this PC, or at least without booting from this hard drive (which I feel is probably infected), then please tell me what should I do.- If you know a place / forum where I can get a specialized help for this (seemingly BIOS-malware related) situation, please tell me where I could go.- If there is no way to move forward, I'll go ahead and risk the reboot, and follow the other steps (steps 6 to 10) in the Preparation Guide, no problem.I kindly ask you to please read below the details of the problem as it occured to me, and the things I have tried so far.The PC is AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core BE-2350 2.1GHz, Motherboard Biostar TA690G AM2 (with AWARD BIOS), 4GB RAM, 200GB SATA HDD, and an ASUS EAH4870 card added a few years ago. It's with WinXP SP3, AVG Free 2012, (standard) Windows Firewall, and it's behind a router.I ... OK you may or may not be able to downgrade the bios. Some mb will refuse to install a bios older than what you currently have installed. You will need to check if you can even install the older bios. I highly doubt any windows based updater will allow you to downgrade the bios. It may be possible with a floppy boot disk; again you need to check.

Next have you tried to reinstall the drivers for the reader?

This is one of the many many reasons we advise against updating a bios unless you are sure it has a fix you need.

HELP.   I had to reset the bios on my HP Envy H8-1534 desktop but I don't have the original display card....It was stolen (grrr.)   What can I do?   It won't work with my Nvicia unless I can get into bios and enable legacy support.

A:H8-1534 Had to reset BIOS but don't have original video card

There is no onboard video so you have no choice other than to purchase and install a PCIe-x16  gen. 1 or gen. 2 video card. I suggest purchasing an ATI Radeon video card that does not have power requirements exceeding 450 Watts. CHeck the manufacturer's website before purchasing a video card to ensure that.  Check the power supply connectors to see if there is a PCIe six or eight-pin power connector. You may have to purchase an adapter if the replacement video card requires a PCIe power connector.

I've recently been working on a friend's old S6200CL and flashed its BIOS with version 3.10. After that, it appears that I can enter the BIOS screen using either F1 or F11 but depending on which one I press, some of the menu options aren't the same. I believe I may not have flashed it properly. Getting to the point, I'm wondering if anyone knows how to get a copy of the original BIOS which should be version 3.06.

I'm looking for the original (3.06) BIOS file for the S6200CL using the Kamet2 motherboard, NOT the Kelut motherboard.

This is all I could find, hope its what you need. (about halfway down the list)

This was bought as a Christmas present for my sister in 2011. About once a year I give it a "once over" to keep software up to date, and a couple of years back I swapped over the WiFi mini-board so that I could upgrade it to Windows 10.  It's been great most of the time, perfectly suiting my sister's light-user needs. However, since installing the W10 the Creator's update a few days ago, 2 of the 3 USB ports no longer work. I want to see if a BIOS and/or chipset driver upgrade will fix this but the BIOS flash update programme to install A14 will not run under Windows 10. (Gives error code 00000406). Any ideas on how to force a BIOS upgrade in this scenario?
The machine is an Inspiron 1575, exact version is Inspiron N5050.
Thanks in anticipation

I have a CD drive in an external enclosure. I have plugged it into a working computer to make sure it works.

However, when plugged into the TravelMate, it does not boot from it. In the BIOS I have set boot priority to "Removable Device" then "CD drive" then "hard disk".

The reason I need the external drive in the first place is that the travelmate's cd drive is broken.

Windows cannot boot. There is a blue screen immediately upon startup. Only thing I can do is get into the BIOS.

I'm trying to reinstall Windows.

I fear that the BIOS may not support USB device booting, and paradoxically I have no way of updating the BIOS without booting from something other than the hard drive.

hi all, I am attempting to find previous BIOS files for my yoga 710-11isk, the Lenovo site only has the current (0ucn24ww) and even after intensive scouting online all I could come up with was 0ucn22ww, and I really searched for a while... it seems unusual for there to be no historical archive of the older versions, can any help me acquire them? a BAK of the shipping version would be very welcome even, specifically trying to find 1.04 or 1.06, but would be happy to get ahold of all of them. thx in advance all!

A:Yoga 710-11isk BIOS bins/exe, previous versions, original bin?

Hello and welcome,
I hesitate to suggest this - try at your own risk...
Do you know the version you're looking for - as translated to 22, 24, etc?  I don't see previous versions listed in the README.
If you know the desired version numbers try modifying the current link and see if you can access the file.  I just tried using the v24 link, modifying to 22 and could download the v22 exe.  That's the only one I know to test.
Like I said: kids, don't try this at home...
