Lenovo Power Manager and system tray - Windows 10

Q: Lenovo Power Manager and system tray - Windows 10

I have Thinkpad W550s running Windows 10 Pro, upgraded from Win 7 Pro. The system tray has this battery icon.?When I right-click on it, I am offered "Launch Power Manager". In Windows 7 this opened a Lenovo app with some interesting capabilities, such as charge/discharge limits when on AC power; however, these capabilities did not often work. After upgrade to Windows 10, the Lenovo app no longer works. Sometimes it brings up the app splash screen and just freezes there. Lately it doesn't even bring up that.Does anyone know how I can simply get rid of this battery icon?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Are these real hardware devices? What do they do? Are they both needed? It seems like the "Lenovo Power Manager" comes with Windows 10 and it's not available on the Lenovo support site. While "Lenovo PM Device" is the opposite and you can only update it from the Lenovo support site.

As By default, There is no Lenovo Power Manager in Windows 10 in Lenovo G50-70. So I was searching through Web and found this Support Website https://support.lenovo.com/in/en/solutions/ht103535  and https://forums.lenovo.com/t5/Windows-10/Power-Manager-for-Windows-10/td-p/2113645/page/3 which States that Laptop Running Windows 10 (G50-70) Support Dual Mode Battery Firmware. So, Is this Information Right and we should not worry regarding Battery Charging just like we used to Threshold Charging in Windows 8.1 via LENOVO POWER MANAGER. I want clarification over this.

A colleagues laptop at work has an icon that appears occasionally in his system tray, named Software Manager, with an icon that looks like a drop of water falling into water (the ripples, etc.). Right-click does nothing. Left-click jumps into some install/update program, but it looks fishy. What the heck is this and how do we (or should we) get rid of it? Nothing in Add/Remove Programs. Is on Start menu, but no uninstall option. Right-click from Start menu, to Properties, shows the path C:\Program Files\Common Files\InstallShield\UpdateService. XP Pro OS. Thanks y'all!!

A:Software Manager in system tray

I'm moving this topic to the XP forum. The icon is legit. and is indeed a built-in update manager. That said, it's pretty useless, so if you want to remove the icon from the start menu, go right on ahead.

On the other hand, I don't know for certain why it would appear in the system tray. Perhaps it is set to automatically check for updates to programs. If so, there should be a way of disabling that feature.

Hello folks, the system tray manager allows you to control what immediately is shown or hidden, but adding or sorting them is beyond the means of what Windows allows. Particularly and in the best case scenario, I'd like to have a tray icon that acts as a mini menu, allowing me to group like tray icons (say, numerous Logitech icons or my protection software). That being said, I was wondering if anyone was familiar with software that allows these additional levels of control over the System Tray in Windows.

I'm running Win XP Pro and like to keep the Task Manager open. So when I boot, I do Ctrl-Alt-Del to open it. Sometimes, but not always, I get a small square icon in the lower right system tray, which I find very helpful.

I have 2 questions: First, why is this only a "sometimes" thing? Second, how can I force the placement of the icon so that I can always have it?

I previously posed this to the Window's Vista forum. They recommended I ask you.

My non-critical, but very aggravating problem is:
Task Manager opens minimzed to the System Tray.

What I have tried:
My viruses scanner is uptodate and there are no viruses or trojan horses
Have run computer in safe mode to make sure minimize on use is not checked
I am running Tskmgr as Administrator
Pressing Ctrl-Atl-Del or Ctrl-Alt-Esc and choosing Task Manager doesn't help, it just opens another incident on the Systray
I can't right click on Task Manager on the systray and maximize it, so I can't (as Microsoft suggest) see if Minimize on use is checked. I don't ever choose anything to Minimize on Use so my best bet would be that it is not checked.

Having the Task Manager icon permanently displayed in your System Tray is a practical and convenient way of monitoring system activity with one click of your mouse, such as RAM and CPU usage, along with running programs. And it is also useful for closing your browser after a sudden, unexpected crash. Here is how to place it there and have it start up with windows:

Go to Run and type "regedit" (without quotes).

Next go to: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

Right click on Run folder and choose New>Key (folder) and name it "TaskManager" and copy/paste the following string into it:

start /min c:\\winnt\system32\taskmgr.exe

Next: Copy/paste the taskmgr.exe file from your Windows/System32 folder to the Startup folder found in your Documents folder.

(Note: If you you cannot find your Startup folder for whatever reason, usually because it has been accidently deleted, you will need to create a shortcut to it and place it in your Documents folder. To do this, click on "Tools" on your User folder menu, choose "Folder Options" and click on the "Options" tab. Next, tick "Show hidden files and folders" and then Apply and OK. You should now see your hidden folders displayed. Now open App Data>Roaming>Microsoft>Windows>Start Menu>Programs folders, where you will find the Startup folder. Hello, I recently bought a Toshiba A300D laptop (64 bit, home premium) and it had the Realtek audio driver installed to have the audio output through the hdmi port. After doing a full restore the driver and icon for the manager gui in the system tray were missing. I downloaded and installed the 64 bit driver found here:
Toshiba - Download Vista drivers:

Was this the correct driver to install?
Where can I get the Realtek hd audio manager for this laptop so I have the options to choose different sound settings like jazz, etc? And have the icon in my system tray?

Any help would be appreciated. thanks

Hi everyone,

I've just installed the latest Realtek driver and the installation goes fine but Realtek HD Audio Manager won't appear in the Control Panel or the System Tray (however, when I go to customize the notification icons, Realtek HD Audio Manager appears as "Show icon and notifications").

I've tried reinstalling time and time again. Also, Device Manager shows 4 instances of "High Definition Audio Device" as well as Realtek High Definition Audio. I've tried uninstalling these and installing Realtek but Windows automatically installs them upon restart.

Anyone got any ideas?

hi - i was just playing music on my dell latitude e4300 via bluetooth to a belkin bluetooth receiver connected to stereo.

somehow the connection got dropped - during a phone call on a land line. may be irrelevant.

now, i cannot get bluetooth connection back. there is no bluetooth icon in the system tray.

i cannot find 'bluetooth' devices in start>control panel> devices
--i have 2, and both ought to be there.

i unplugged bluetooth receiver, and had win 7 search for devices to add - no luck.

sure, i can reboot, and everything will probably come back.
but i am hoping for a better answer. i don't want to have to reboot every time the bluetooth connection gets lost.

i searched the web for a little, but only found unrelated posts, or posts with no answer. THANKS!

A:Bluetooth connection lost, icon gone from system tray, not in device manager

bluetooth light/icon on laptop, not screen is on; no bt

ok, i rebooted, thinking the bluetooth icon would again be in system tray, with the red in the middle, showing i have bluetooth capability, but that sound is not currently being directed to bluetooth.

no icon.

the dell laptop does have bluetooth icon illuminated on the laptop, just above the function keys - not on the screen at all / not in sys tray.

the bluetooth receiver is on, is working.

'add a device' is not finding this bt thingie.

I was looking in my Device Manager the other day, when I noticed something odd: there were two devices related to Lenovo Power Management.   I looked at the properties of both of them and this is what I found:  The first one, "Lenovo PM Driver", is the one that shows up for download on the support page for the Lenovo T430 as it matches the version number. I have no idea what the second one "Lenovo Power Manager" is, at nothing with its version number appears on the website at all. Does anyone know what the second one is and if should it be there?

A:Lenovo PM Device vs. Lenovo Power Manager

I do not know if it SHOULD be there or not BUT I show the same 2 drivers with the same 2 version numbers on my X1Y3.  By the way Lenovo Power Manager was installed by windows 10 Update not through Lenovo Vantage for me.  Looking at windows drivers update on my laptop I traced it to the below link.

Not sure if I should post it in Performance forum.

Power icon is missing in the system tray.
When I went to Customize > Turn System Icons On or Off > The Power icon is set at Off and pointer is grayed out ( un-clickable ).

I have google for answers, no dice.

Is it because Power icon shows on my Host OS system tray, and therefore it is not necessary to be shown in virtual machine ?

Your VM does not emulate the chipset which has the power options control on your real machine - so the functionality is unavailable.

Hi all,

I made the unfortunate mistake of downloading a ZIP file from Limewire and when I opened it up, I must have released the evil virus that was living inside. Since then, it's been nothing but chaos on my laptop. I'm posting this from a second laptop, which I'm fortunate to have.

Form the start, I was no longer able to access my Task Manager by hitting CTRL+ALT+DEL. I am able to get to it through the ServicePack folder and created a shortcut on my desktop. But I know it's not right that I can't access it through those 3 keys. As well, my System Icon trays don't display properly and are nothing more than blue boxes. A few times, some have displayed properly but NONE work. No alt text appears either, if I hover over them. Even the icons that display properly don't work if I click them or double-click them. However, my taskbar is fine and my Start menu is fine.

I managed to uninstall Limewire after repeated "Limewire launch error" pop-ups and also got rid of Java because the pop-ups switched to ones about LW and Java. During this time, my browser (Mozilla Firefox) was working fine. I downloaded AdAware, ran a deep scan, and deleted every critical object and privacy threat. Then, did it again.

At some point in the deletion, I must have caused the virus (which wasn't destroyed) to morph into something new because I couldn't use my browser anymore. When I tried to open a Mozilla browser window, it would think for a long time and then I'd get pop-ups abou... Read more

Quick fix--log off and on again--icons reappear where they should. I am told that this disappearing activity is due to a Windows XP "BUG". What a problem! Any ideas for a secure, lasting fix out there? After the spyware and antivirus software installation, the computer star-up time is now really SLOW too. The software launches seems to be in conflict with each other, or something. Have emachine--T3406, Windows XP Home 2002, Service Pack 2. 1.23 GB RAM.

I have a two week old Lenovo X1 Carbon 20A7 and from the beginning after simply got Windows7 initial setup with nothing else on, I noted that if I left it to go in sleep or Hibernate, when the lid was closed, upon opening it again, the notebook screen was black although the adaptive keyboard was active and the machine was pingable from the network. No matter what I did I could not get the unit to come back to life so I always had to press the power button until it power cycled to get it back. I noted that I was not alone out there and some reported the issue on earlier X1's Support suggested to send it back and were not helping much. They decided it is either hardware or configuration issue, and in both cases it required a return.  Because the issue was reported in the forums on earlier X1's I decided that it was probably software and I started by disabling all sleep modes only to find out it would still go to sleep. This is how I found out that if the sleep mode was disabled in Power Manager, it would automatically enable in Windows version of the power manager. Disable it in Windows and it would enable in Power manager... yeah - exactly; I had the same reaction.. Same thing with other power functions. So I de-installed Power Manager 6 and bingo, no more issues. But now I get non critical warnings  in Lenovo tools that I have no power manager software installed. Plus I don't get the extra features that are useful in PM6. ... Read more

I just bought a Dell Dimension 5150, installed my programs and configured the desktop to the way I wanted. All was good. In the System Tray I had running, Norton Ghost, ZoneAlarm Pro, McAfee, MusicMatch, Dell Support and a few others.

Yesterday I booted up and some of these icons were GONE.

I tried tweeking with the properties page, start menu bar, and taskbars but nothing else worked. I even looked at each program that SHOULD be running in the System tray, all options to show in tray were checked but they still did not appear.

I did a System Restore to before I had the problem and it STILL didn't resolve it.
Where did the icons go??

Any ideas to help would be greatly appreciated.

The programs still work as if they were in the system tray, the only thing that is gone are the icons (but not all of them).

Thanks again.

When my computer logs on, whether its the first time or after a restart, there are many icons in my system tray that are not needed, but continue to be loaded and it takes about 10 minutes for all of them to finish before I can start doing anything on the computer. In 98, you could use msconfig.exe to deselect the items you did not want to load on startup. Is there such a command for Windows 2000?

A:Windows 2K Pro System Tray

Yeah, run "MSCONFIG" and goto the Startup tab. Problem solved.

Hello everyone. I just installed the Enterprise edition that is good for 90 days. My initial impression is it's a vast improvement over the previous test copies.

Okay, here's my question: Is it possible in any way to add a system tray icon for Windows Defender?

If not, then can I add it to my Quick Launch bar, which I enabled?

Thank you! Jd

A:Windows Defender: Can I Add to System Tray?

Try hitting the start button, search windows defender, once the icon pops up, drag it to your desktop and then drag it to the tray. For some reason it doesn't go from the programs list on the start menu to the tray.

I have a problem that's backwards to most questions that I've seen. I have two windows, say Window A and B. Buttons for both show on my taskbar. In the past, I've been able to toggle between the two by clicking on the taskbar button for the window that is on top.

So, if window A is on top, I could click on its taskbar button and that would minimize window A to the taskbar, showing window b. When I wanted to see window A, again, I could click on its taskbar button, and it would again display window A on top of window b.

Now, when I click the taskbar button for window a, the window minimizes to the System Tray, instead of the taskbar. The toggle function that I found so handy is broken.

There must be some setting that's gotten flipped, but I can't find it, and every question that I look at is from someone who wants to have windows minimized to the taskbar.

Thanks for your help!

What are the applications in question? Because its not a function or setting of Windows itself but one of the application.

I'm using Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit on an Asus Notebook computer with Intel i7-2630 CPU.

This problem appeared 4-5 days ago. When I click the Taskbar arrow marked "show hidden icons" to see my system tray, instead of a small box showing the icons, I get a huge screen wide box which is mostly empty, and the message "Some notification icons can't be displayed. There is not enough room to show all of the items in your system tray. Please uninstall some programs or try a higher screen resolution."

Here's a screenshot of this message: http://image.prntscr.com/image/ab9d0...405c9760cb.png

As you can see, there are only 16 icons in the tray, which used to fit a small 4x4 grid before this problem appeared. Now the box is the width of the entire screen and mostly empty, and it still complains about not enough space.

My screen is at 1920x1080, which is the native resolution of the LCD screen.

Does anyone know why this problem suddenly appeared?

Hi xen9101, welcome to the Forum.

Your screen shot is a bit difficult to work out, but it looks like you have the Task Bar running vertically on the LH side of the screen. Is that correct?. If so, have you tried dragging it back to bottom again & see if all the icons are now displayed.

The amount of room on a vertical task bar is reduced substantially when compared to a horizontal one, (the ratio being 1080 versus 1920).

There's something wrong with my system tray separator bars. I have never seen this anywhere before, I hope some one can help me.

The problem is that the separator bars on the right side of the tray ( the one that separates the window tag area from the clock/calendar) keep piling up every time I turn off and on my computer. Each shutdown adds an other bar which takes away the space form the window tags.

I tried rebooting but it doesn't help either.
Doesn anyone know the solution?
Thanky you in advance, I appreciate any input!

This happened a long time ago.

Some people from our computer company came to fix our router connections, and while they weren't even able to set my computer up with the internet (We eventually found out my gateway was the same as my IP adress), they managed to make my system tray dissapear. It's been a few years and we havn't managed to fix it. But recently there's some new software and stuff like that which require it. I'm used to not having it, I have to use the task manager to close certain things. But I need it now, and I figured this was the place to ask. lol.

So yeah, you get the task bar, where all the minimized windows sit, there's a blank space that looks like the task bar when nothing is using it, and then you get my clock. Wondering if anyone knows what's going on.

I'm not calling that ***** computer company because they don't know jack so i'll ignore anyone giving me that advice.

I am getting periodic appearances of a 'Windows Security Alert' icon in my system tray, telling me to go somewhere and download something. I assume this is a virus.I am running the latest version of Avira, with updates, and have scanned my sytem. It has not reported any viruses. I also went to the online scanner - Symantec Security Check - it didn't find any either. The 'Windows Security Alert' problem icon comes and goes. Here are the results of my scans, as per the instructions in the sticky thread:I see there is an entry -mRunServices: [TrojanShield Protector] c:\program files\trojanshield\Port.exe, but when I browse my drive, I do not see a trojanshield directory. could it be hidden? Also, it lists -STS: c:\windows\system32\cq16ea6yh.dll: {a2234b15-23f2-42ad-f4e4-00aac39c0004} - c:\windows\system32\cq16ea6yh.dll, but I cannot find the cq16ea6yh.dll anywhere. I see that cq16ea6yh.dll is one of the files listed by Avira as being in quarantine (it is listed as the TR/PCK.Krap.AH.4 trojan). Could this DDS entry be a remnant of a previously detected and quarantined virus? or is it part of my current problem?DDS log:DDS (Ver_09-12-01.01) - NTFSx86 Run by Ian at 21:22:44.29 on Sun 12/27/2009Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.11 BrowserJavaVersion: 1.6.0_05Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition 5.1.2600.3.1252.1.1033.18.503.238 [GMT -8:00]AV: AntiVir Desktop *On-access scanning enabled* (Updated) {AD166499-45F9-482A-A743-FDD3350758C7}===========...
