I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Make sure you uninstall the old drivers first from Programs and Features.

In fact, look at Device Manager and let me know what it says under Display Adapter.

Hi,

I've been running Windows 7 after upgrading from Vista for a couple of months without any problems. The compatibility program keeps giving me the all clear, but for the past week my graphics card has been spontaneously crashing when I go to play Minecraft and Bejeweled 3. The first two times it recovered and I couldn't seem to track down an error report to find out why; tonight when I opened up Bejeweled I had to manually shut the laptop down as the screen glitched and froze (the image started to break up into bars and then locked completely). It's now crashed twice in one night on games I seemed to be able to run previously without much issue (well, minecraft is its own monster, but Bejeweled has never done this to me before! ). I've been surfing the forums and it looks like there have been very similar issues with the card and Windows 7, but all the related posts are well over a year old and don't quite seem to match up. I'm creating a backup and am prepared to try and update the driver as one old thread suggested, but I wanted to get some current feedback first.

I am running Windows 7 32 bit home premium on a Dell Inspiron 1420 notebook; a Core2 Duo 1.80GHz processor; 2GM memory; (A10?) BIOS; INVIDIA GeForce 8400m GS driver version 8.15.11.8621.

- If anyone has recently had this model of card crash on them, did a driver update fix the problem? (I ask because a similar old thread said the update seemed to make it worse, but that user was having some other symptoms ... Read more

A:INVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS card crashing, some Qs b4 I update driver?

While a driver update might work, I don't think this is the real cause of the problem...it sounds like a hardware failure to me, most likely due to overheating. Does the card have a fan, if so, can you open up your machine and check that the fan is still running?

Doh, just noticed it's a laptop (mobile chipset). You could use monitoring tools such as SpeedFan or one of my favorite Windows sidebar gadgets called GPU Observer to check the temperature.

Anyway, the driver you're looking at is the correct one and it's not a bad idea to update - just be on the safe side and make a backup or restore point first.

I have had a couple of taskbar messages now to tell me the GPU has crashed and fixed itself, previously i had thought it was because i was running 3D games in a window, the problem shows itself as random colour blocks on the desktop and then the whole display flashing, like the computer is about to go into a UAC prompt, culminating with the message on the taskbar regarding the GPU. but now it is happening just with DreamScene running, so im all excited 'cause woo hoo, fiinally Vista is doing something other than just working right anytime all the time. I am using Vista Ultimate with SP1 32bit on my dv6519tx laptop, the laptop had Vista home premium originally, and I have the latest Nvidia driver from HP which is driver 7.15.11.7432. I have downloaded the latest Nvidia driver from their website, but as this isnt specifically a mobile 'M' driver, i havent yet installed it. Has this happened to anyone else?

So, I have upgraded my laptop from Vista-32bits to Windows 7-32bits. I often play games and once my graphics card failed and made my laptop restart. In my attempt to fix it I think I only made it worse by messing up in the device manager, it seems I deleted my graphics card to try and reinstall it. Now I don't seem to be able to re-add it to my device manager, I've tried to download the driver but it does't seem to work, I am now using the Standard VGA dislpay. I have a Sony Vaio VGN-NR21S. What can I do to get it back to work, is it a hardware problem or a driver problem? Thanks in advance.

Hi,

I intend to upgrade my Sony Vaio VGN-NR21S/S laptop to Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit I am currently using Windows Vista Home Edition 32-bit.

My graphics card is not compatiable and I have found few threads on this forum which addresses the issue.

Is it better to do the inplace upgrade and then update the graphics card later?

Thanks in advance,

You usually can't upgrade the graphics processor on a laptop. What claimed it wasn't compatible? There are Windows 7 drivers available on NVIDIA's website.

NVIDIA DRIVERS 258.96 WHQL

Also, it is recommended to do a clean install if possible. The inplace upgrade can take a while and a lot of people have problems resulting from it.

I just installed windows 7 professional last night and when trying to personalize my theme, i realized that i couldn't change window color. It only gave me the contrast themes unlike in vista where i could choose the color and it would still look like vista. I'm not sure if that last sentence made much sense, but i hope you get the idea. I can still use the desktop backgrounds and sounds, but not the aero window colors.

When I go to device manager, the only graphics adaptor it shows is the standard VGA. When I had Vista I didn't have any problem. But now that I have Windows 7, the OS won't detect the graphics card. Is it not compatible with Windows 7? I saw another post with a fix for the 8400M GT, and was wondering if maybe there was hope for me.

Thanks in advance for any advice

Hi,

I successfully installed Windows 7 Ultimate 32-bit by choosing custom install on my Sony Vaio VGN-NR21S. I didnt delete my Windows Vista Home Edition 32-bit recovery partition.

I am having difficulty in updating the graphics card which is a Nvidia Geforce 8400M GT. I downloaded a desktop 8400 driver from Nvidia site(UK) for me.

I then used the mobility modder tool for Nvidia and it modified the inf file. I then ran the Setup.exe from the Nvidia directory.

The problem is that i keep getting a message saying "The System has not been modified" after running the setup.exe

I then tried the notebook 8400M GT driver from Nvidia site(even though its not supported by Sony) That didnt work.

So i then tried using the Mobility modder on the notebook 8400M driver but the same problem occurs.

I am not confident in modifying the inf file outlined in the following:

LinkNVIDIA Driver - Convert from Desktop to Mobile (Laptop):

Here are my hardware ID's:

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&SUBSYS_902D104D&REV_A1

PCI\VEN_10DE&DEV_0426&CC_030000

if possible could somebody create me an inf file please?

Can you install the Vista graphics driver?

I had to do something like that with my Compaq notebook (8200M graphics). Since doing that, I was able to get drivers from Windows Update or use the generic nVidia mobile drivers. I can't tell you whether it was necessary, but it may have helped.

I have the new XFX GeForce GTX 256mb graphic card and when ever I turn on a game it plays for a while and then shuts down. The computer restarts, but the screen doesn't turn on. I was told that its the overheat of my graphic card. The part where I am really lost is that no matter if its the lowest settings or the highest settings its the same. Is there anything I can do in the settings to fix it somehow? If it is possible can you tell me step by step because I did not find it myself. Any other hints to fix this would also help a lot. Looking for help asap since a new powerful computer is a waste if the graphic card is acting stupid. >.<

A:GeForce graphic card problems.

hmm.... only one version:

You need to buy a more powerful power supply.
(It's true- i looked up, recommended is 500W for 7800 GTX)

But be careful when buying a power supply, it's important to look not only at the total output (500W) but also at the output that can be supplied (amperage).
You should buy only a power supply that can supply 30A from the 12V lines.

that's all...

Nvidia Graphics Card not recognized
Hi - this is my first time writing on this forums.
I've been spending hours and hours going through relative threads and so on.
However, I still don't have a clue - or may be it is just a dead end.

Here is the situation:
My girlfriend decided to upgrade her Chinese laptop "HASEE A460-i3 D2."
I've never seen this laptop or this company before, but I figured it would be easy to install SSD and 8GB RAM. Hardware installation was breeze, and the I installed Windows 7 64bit Ultimate Edition.
However, the problem came from installing graphic card driver.
I realized that the graphic card was not being recognized.

Based on the label on the laptop, it was suppsoe to have "nVidia GT325M."
So I tried downloading the driver from this nVidia website and got this:
This graphics driver could not find compatible graphics hardware.

So I tried using Nvidia Auto detect program and got this:
The manufacturer of this system requires that you download the driver for your GPU from their support site.
The GeForce M series and GeForce Go series notebook GPUs use drivers that have been customized by the notebook manufacturers to support hot key functions, power management functions, lid close and suspend/resume behavior. NVIDIA has worked with some notebook manufacturers to provide notebook-specific driver updates, however, most notebook driver updates must come from the notebook manufacturer. Additionally, the desktop GeForce graphics drive... Read more

Well it would seem you've been looking in the appropriate places.
Is the device actually a GT216?
If it is that's actually bad driver wise. Nvidia has drivers that support all models but that one for some reason. 220-280 are supported but 216 apparently isn't.
Suppose you could try the 210m driver, don't know how much luck you'll have with that though. Might at least recognize it as a Nvidia gpu.

Hi there @Jay-19Welcome to the HP Support Forums! It is a great place to find the help you need, both from other users, HP experts and other support personnel. I understand that you are looking for indormation for compatibility of a Geforce GTX 750 Ti SC  with your desktop. I am happy to help with this. Taking a look through the specifications of each device:HP ENVY 700-414 Desktop PC Product SpecificationsEVGA GeForce GTX 750 Ti - www.evga.com Assuming that you have not made any changes to your desktop as to the power supply or the motherboard, then your system has:1 PCI Express x16 (Gen 3.0)Internal 460W (100V-240V) Requirements for the GeForce GTX 750 Ti SCMinimum of a 300 Watt power supply.Total Power Draw : 60 WattsPCI-E 3.0 16x So in term of raw requirements it should work. I have not tried it, but in any upgrade or change there is always the possibility of a conflict with another device, or software. In most cases, it can be resolved, with some adjustments. I have not tested it with this hardware so I can not speak to it directly, but on paper, they should work fine together.

Hello,Since I bought this laptop i was facing a lot of issues related to the performance, and i thought most of them are due to the lazy hard-disk. After the upgrade to a M.2 SSD, laptop continue to have the graphic issues (grey screen instead of image - i can provide example screen shots).I am not able to understand how is the graphic card activating and when is working since the settings on display area on Windows is showing only the Intel HD Graphics 530 on board, and is no mention about the GeForce card as should ? I can provide a  screen shot. Also when checking the NVIDIA Control Panel, at the ?Set PhysX configuration? area, the Laptop Display is not disconnecting from the Intel HD Graphics 530 on board even if I choose the GeForce card and press and press Apply. So I think that the poor quality of the video playback is related to these, since I think my video card is either not working or maybe not properly set-up or else. Please review and help with a solution. Waiting for your feed-back. Thanks.

My XPS 435/9000 with an (i7 quad core processor 920) desktop originally came with an Nvidia Geforce GT220 GDDR3 graphics card.  I have been having video issues so I just purchased an (PNY) Nvidia Geforce GT740 DDR3, thinking this card would be an upgrade.  (I have an HP Pavilion 27xi monitor).
Maybe I was expecting too much, but to me it seems like the quality of the picture with the new card is not as good as the original card???  I swear I was getting 2560 x 1440 resolution originally, but I can only get 1920 x 1080 now?  It says that is the "native resolution".
Thoughts?  I don't game on my computer... mostly office stuff and videos etc...

A:XPS 435/9000 and Nvidia Geforce GT740 graphic card?

Both cards are capable of higher resolutions, but your monitor is only a 1080p monitor so that is the max resolution.  Its possible some settings like cleartype were reset when you swapped graphics cards as well.  I would try adjusting them to see if that helps, even go so far as to download the latest NVIDIA drivers.

Hi Ken, Look aon the top back of the graphics card for a switch.  See the below image. You should have received a pamphlet in the box describing the use of the switch (legacy mode or UEFI mode).  If your PC has a version 8 HP BIOS then disable secure boot if set. If your PC is not at a version 8 BIOS level then the switch should be in legacy position.  The pamphlet should describe the use of the switch.

I'm sure that this has come up many times. I recently purchased a new laptop and the card coming with it was the Geforce 8400-GS, not high-end but, on other forums said to be mid-range. It's supposed to play new games smoothly; just not at peak performance. The forum below categorized it as thus: The Mobile Graphics Card Info Page - Most GPU Qs answered - Notebook Forums and Laptop Discussion

My computer specs:
Intel core duo CPU T5750 @2.0 GHz 2.0 Ghz
RAM: 2.0 GHz
32-bit operating system

Yet my Dell performance page rates me at a base score 2.6 in desktop graphics out of 5.9. Gaming graphics are apparently at a decent 4.1 out of 5.9 yet games and definitely PC game cutscenes do not run smoothly.
This computer even plays its default chess game at a noticibly choppy rate when it only demands a recommended 2.0 base score. I tried to run the 2003 game Jedi Academy and it runs though on it and other games the cutscenes are very choppy and gameplay has a very noticable FPS jumpiness. The newest game I played was a 2006 strategy game (Empire at War, I'm using the SW games for testing because they tend not to be very demanding) and it also played choppy.
These games don't demand very much and Jedi Academy is honestly pretty ancient. There are no viruses or bugs on the computer nor is it bogged down with programs. Lastly running videos is often difficult on or off the internet. Many times the frame rate on these is reduced. The graphics card is adjusted to the medi... Read more

Greetings to everyone out there, I am new to the forum. Feel free to critique me if I do or say something wrong.

I purchases a Dell 1300 XPS around November, also u should know I keep very good care of my Laptop.

Recently (being the last month) my computer has been freezing (at least the screen) it flickers green and red, then it pixellates, then my computer crashes.

However about two weeks ago my computer flickered and pixellated, but didn't crash. My computer reinitialized my graphics card and started working. It then told me my graphics card had failed. This was great for me because up until then I really had no idea what was going wrong.

So I now know what my problem is.

Then I decided to go onto cyberspace and look around to see if anyone else had the same problem. I found, Yes! Few people did. However no one has been able to solve the problem.

I've updated my driver, rolled back my driver and have come across nothing but failure. The only thing that I've found to work is just disabling my graphics card, which is pretty lame because my computer goes into fits whenever I try to play a movie or a game.

Please if anyone has any information that would help me it would be much appreciated.

Hi minamfm,

Did you clean-install W7, or did you upgrade from a prior version of Windows by running the disk from that version?

What driver version have you got installed? Here are the latest WHQL versions from NVidia for the 8M series:

64-bit GeForce Release 185

Hello,
I just installed Windows 7 today. When I booted up the computer, to my surprise aero peek did not load because it says that my video card does not support it. When I went to check what video card was being detected, the 8400m was not showing up. I downloaded the drivers for windows 7 off of the nvidia website and still no go. I am using a Dell XPS with 4 gigs of memory and a 2ghz Dualcore processor.

Thanks

What version of windows are you running? Their are alot of threads about the 8400M. I'm kind of tired so if you'll use the search function at the top of the page and just enter drivers 8400m or nvidia 8400m you should get several threads that have delt with this issue. Sorry I can't walk you through it but it's 1:36 Am right now and I'm tired. Also when you have the time please go to your user CP top of page and fill in all of your system specs as it will help others help you if needed in the future. Thanks and welcome to seven forums. I hope somebody can help me with this problem I have with my Thinkpad Yoga 15 (20DQ001KUS).I have upgraded it to windows 10 and all was running fine in the beginning but now I received ?the blue screen? all the time and  the computer does not restart normally after it. A:Thinkpad Yoga 15 Graphic Card issue (geforce 840m)

Hi GijsDros, welcome to the forums.

Just in case have you tried to update the NVidia Geforce drivers in Windows 10? Maybe it can work out.

To update drivers on a Thinkpad I always recommend:
1) Try first Windows Update and update all the drivers and Patches
2) Try Lenovo System Update to get any new/missing drivers.
3) Try to install Lenovo Settings and Lenovo Companion from the Windows App Store, Lenovo Companion also has a "update driver search"
4) Sometimes all that software does not recognize some updated / missing driver. Check Lenovo's Support Site and search for your specific model drivers.

There is this NVidia Driver on the support site of you model:
NVIDIA Optimus Display Driverver. 10.18.13.5435 / 20.19.15.4312 from 17/12/2015

But updating with driver with the one on the NVidia site does not gives me any conflic, so if you still have issues with that driver, you may try the NVidia page.

Let's hope this can help you.

Regards

I was wondering if anyone has experience in upgrading to this card on the Lenovo Tower S510-10KW? I am a novice looking into the MSI Geforce GTX1050.  I have understood I need to upgrade both the power unit and the card. Some instructions on doing this are in the user manual. But will that be enough or do I have to do anything special when booting up (BIOS?) or so? And will the card be compatible with the computer? Thanks for any help I can get!

Hello guesscomplex,
If you go to C > Windows > Minidump, zip up the files and upload them with your next post, you may need to copy them to your desktop first.
Chances are its a driver thing, but the dump file will give us more info.
Can you include some system specs in your next post too, thanks.

Hi guys,

I noticed an old thread around and found it because i experienced the same issue with my nvidia card an i have tried it with a couple models different from 8400M GT and this solution worked just fine.

At a point my graphics card went berserk and from that moment on i had some vertical blue lines over the entire display.

At first I thought it was a OS related issue but after i kept reading and browsing around i noticed that most people recommended to contact Vaio support and they should work out the issue for free in about 3-5 days.

Another solution would have been to bake the entire motherboard which to be honest, i didn't really have the guts to do it

I just wanted to let you all know that this solution really worked and my Vaio has been dunning just fine for the past 4 months without any issues as well as a couple of 2 other machines i applyed this solution to.

1. Buy thermal paste
2. Take your machine apart ( only the case until you can actually reach the video card)
3. Take a hair dryer and hold it at 3cm above your card and turn it on
4. Keep it running for about 2:30 - 3 minutes
5. Make yourself a tee or a cofee and let everything cool off (this is very important because when you apply the thermal paste it is cooler and you could crack something)
6. Apply thermal paste over the video card chip
7. Reasamble your machine

After this everything should run perfectly

Below is the video i used as a reference to do this and I can vouch that everything is up a... Read more
