Updating BIOS Driver with Windows 10

Q: Updating BIOS Driver with Windows 10

Hi, I'm trying to update my BIOS driver due to an error message saying "Thread stuck in device driver". I have windows 10. When I go to the acer site to download and update the driver, the only available drivers are for windows 8. Can I download this windows 8 driver without harming my computer? Should I revert back to windows 8? Any other solutions for the error message? Update:My computer: Acer Aspire V5-122P-0600 Manufacture year: 2013 Came installed with Windows 8 Thanks!

Preferred Solution: Updating BIOS Driver with Windows 10

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

The title says it all but,

I found a recently new driver (5.31 Rev.A) in this website: http://soggi.eu/mbs/msi-oem/MS-7525-VER-1.0-Boston.htm. Is it going to go smoothly or brick itself up? I don't even know if it's possible to flash the old bios so I can restore it anytime just in case this one screws up.

A:Updating my motherboard's bios driver. Is it okay?

It`s not called a driver, you are simply updating or flashing your bios.

If you don`t know what you`re doing, don`t do it.

There`s no need to update the bios unless you are having a specific problem that the latest bios will address.

I went into my device manager to see which devices need to be updated. I then went and clicked update "Microsoft Virtual Wifi Miniport Adapter" - then as seen in the below photograph, a Windows error popped up and said "Windows can't verify this driver software". Can anyone tell me what is going on here? Could this be a zombie driver or is it safe to continue the update? Thanks.

A:Updating Driver: Windows cannot verify driver

Are you running any Virtualization software (Virtuabox, XP Mode)?

If so then that would explain the Virtual WIFI Adapter. Also, as you're running X64 then some drivers will produce this message as it's part of the X64 system to alert of any X86 drivers that may be installed.

This is an old HP PC I have recently upgraded from XP to Windows 7 and I have to say it has never run better

I have an ASUSTek A7N8X-LA motherboard with ver. 3.05 BIOS and an AMD Athlon™ 2600+ processor

I want to upgrade to the latest BIOS that supports SSE2 instructions (for game playing purposes), however, I have run into a snag that the most recent BIOS ver 3.21 is still only XP compatible. Neither ASUS or HP are willing to provide any free support.

This is somewhat frustrating as the BIOS in situ appears to be the original 2003 version. I could have easily updated this to the latest version before I upgraded the OS to Windows 7, but now it is to late.

Q. Dare I use the XP BIOS and what steps can I take to protect against permanent disaster if things go wrong?

Can anyone advise me please?

A:Updating BIOS on Windows 7 PC

<<...but now it is to late.>>

There is no direct upgrade path from XP to Win 7...so installing Win 7 had to leave the XP install intact, if you used the upgrade version of Win 7.

If it's an HP system, you should have recovery/restore disks that would allow reversion to XP. At that time, the BIOS update could be done...but if that update only supports XP...I don't see what is gained...unless you just run XP.

Sounds to me like a new motherboard/CPU/RAM combo is needed here, not an updated O/S. It's hard to bring computer technology from over 8 years ago...into 2011 performance/capabilities, IMO.

I updated my BIOS through windows using MSI's Live Update 6 software and it has been stuck on this screen for about 30 minutes...
Is this normal? I'm scared to reboot it because I'm concerned about getting stuck in a possible boot loop.
Any ideas?

A:MSI Mobo BIOS Updating Through Windows...

If you reboot, and the BIOS is in fact corrupt, you won't get stuck in a boot loop.

You will get stuck with no-POST, much worse than a boot loop.

What is the model of your motherboard? I can find its internal technicians manual and find out if there is a disaster recovery method. Sometimes they're very easy to perform.

Don't reboot that computer until I find out first, just in case the chip was erased but not flashed, or returns a bad checksum.

Dell has released a new bios version A06 for my laptop M101z (Inspiron 1120). The Windows version is 2.7MB whlle the DOS version is 1.7 MB.

The flashing procedure is the same for both. Click on the .exe file, extract it to C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R300552, In the START>RUN text box type C:\DELL\DRIVERS\R300552 and press ENTER.

What is the difference between the Windows version and the DOS version as the install/flash procedure is the same?

Which one should I use for flashing the bios?

A:Which bios version - Windows or DOS - to use for updating?

Windows based .exe's have a higher rate of causing a bad flash, mostly due to some sanfu while the OS is running.

That's why the Dos version is generally considered a safer way to flash. Less potential conflicts.

Win based ones are fine when they work, but as mentioned above, there is simply a higher level of risk.

Okay so I'm having some problems with a computer my mom brought from her uncles. I'm not gonna give the whole story but he gave this computer to my mom and she doesn't want it.

First, I want to say that this computer has the Windows 8 beta on it as its only OS. It's very clunky and full of bugs and whatnot and I want it off so I'm putting windows 7 on it and erasing everything on it. This shouldn't be a problem for these forums since everything I"m having problems with has nothing to do with the OS. Besides installing.

Now, basically this computers main parts are better than my own (it's not that great anyway) It's motherboard is x65 bit, it had 2 gb 800 mhz ram (my computer had the same amount but only 667mhz) it's processor is 3.00 GHz (mine is 2.3 GHz)

So basically it's a better computer for the main parts. I've not looked at the PSU but I'm sure it's better aswell. The only thing that isn't better is the graphics card. It's a 7 series while mine is a 9.

So, basically I want to put the best of my computer to this better one. Mine feels newer (since I keep it dusted so it sounds really smooth, while this one sounds a bit old. But either way I want to install windows on it. The only problem is that the BIOS is inoperable. When loading into the BIOS the keyboard no longer seems to work. Its light go off. But every once in a while on trying, I can get it into the boot menu so I can move it to put from CD rom. But at this point, no matter what, it won't let me scro... Read more

I just received a DELL Optiplex 9010 with WIN 7 installed. I was a bit rushed and thought updating the Bios would be a good idea and didn't realise I was installing v A01, so a downgrade..

Now I can not start windows, when the PC starts it begins to boot but soon after the loading windows icons start there is a blue screen (stating to check the hard drives for errors..) and the machine goes to the Windows Error Recovery screen. I've tried to use the Launch Startup Repair tool but it doesn't seem to find anything wrong..

Not sure what to do from this point? Is there a way I can install the correct version of the bios for this machine?

I asked a computer techie and he said its nonsense and I should update it the normal way by flash memory at the boot time.
Any suggestions?
Also, what happens if I screw the bios setting at boot time.
do I have to install windows again or can my windows be restored ?

Hi there.I'm trying to update the BIOS on my HP Spectre x360 - 13-ac004na. I'm not running Windows and it's proving a bit tricky. On a Windows machine I've downloaded the BIOS update from the HP support site for my machine, and I've used this tool to create a USB flash drive. This all seems to have gone correclty and I have the update files in /Hewlett-Packard/BIOS/New on the drive as expected. However, I'm not able to boot from this drive. I attempt to do so by pressing ESC during startup, then boot device options (F9), and select my flash drive from the list but I get a message which says: "An operating system wasn't found. Try disconnecting any drives that don't contain an operating system. Press any key to restart." I've tried two different flash drives, just to be sure. So I've tried following a different route, using the instructions here on how to update the BIOS when Windows doesn't start: https://support.hp.com/us-en/product/hp-spectre-13-ac000-x360-convertible-pc/14039877/model/15304466... The info here says to press F2 to enter the "Hardware Diagnostics UEFI Menu". I do this, but I only have 4 options here; "Memory Test", "Hard Drive Check", "Language" and "Exit". There is no "Firmware Management" or "BIOS Management" which the instructions say there should be. I've also tried holding down Windows + B and pressing the power button with the flash drive in which so... My question: is it "always" advisable to update to the latest NvIDIA Driver Version as found on my (non-critical) Windows Update?

Lately, whenever I check my Windows Update for critical updating I see five (5) WindowsXP updates I do not think I need (so, I do not install them) and also one (1) Driver Update. No version is indicated (would probably need to install to get this info?) but indicates it was released on July 28, 2003 and the size is 12.2MB.

In August 2003 I updated/installed NVIDIA Display Driver v4.4.0.3 and was wondering if I should download the version indicated on my Windows Update. All my displays seem to be working properly with no indication of any problem. Does the axiom "if it ain't broke, don't fix it!" apply here?

My computer was working perfectly, but thought Id be good and install the latest drivers, so I went to nvidia.com and downloaded the nforce drivers for my ASUS A8N-SLI Deluxe motherboard.

Whilst installing it said something like "old ethernet drivers detected, click yes to uninstall previous drivers (requires restart)" which I did. On rebooting my PC blue screened after the Windows loading screen.

After several more normal boot attempts, I tried booting in "Safe Mode with Networking" - again it blue screened. Then I tried booting normally again, it didnt blue screen but the monitor just goes completely blank after the loading screen!

Next I just tried booting in "Safe Mode". It made it to the windows log in screen, but the mouse and keyboard do not respond. I even tried using an old PS/2 keyboard. Consequently I cannot get into Windows. Strangely though the keyboard works in BIOS so is obviously being detected.

Finally, I thought about doing a repair install or accessing the Recovery Console, but on selecting either option it says no hard drives detected (I have 2 HDD in RAID0 if that makes any difference)!

I have a CD for my motherboard which came with my PC. When I put it in, it says about making a boot disk - is this what I need to do?

I just need to get into Windows so I can reinstall the drivers or do a system restore.

Please, please, please help. I really cant format my hard drives.

Many Thanks.

How can I stop windows updating that device?

I just recently got Windows 7 re-installed on my HP dv6t-6100 laptop. Everything works fine except for the display. My resolution is currently 1280 x 1024 and no display drivers or devices are detected. (see picture). Whenever I try to install newer display drivers, I am prompted to restart my computer, but when i do, the computer becomes stuck on the "Starting Windows" screen. (I have tried multiple Intel and AMD dirvers because I believe the original installation was switchable, though i'm not entirely sure what that means or what the purpose of that is.)

When downloading and installing the displays drivers, certain elements were not successfully installed, including Microsoft C++ Redistributable...I'm not sure if this is relevant or not.

If someone could suggest what I could try to fix this I'd greatly appreciate it. With the display issures I'm having trouble using certain programs like 3d modeling and rendering programs which I use heavily. I've also noticed that the display appears incorrectly too wide, for example an image that I know is square appears as a rectangle, stretched out.

Thanks for the help!

I have Windows Update set up to automatically check for updates each day. Two days ago it found that "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Bluetooth Controller - CSR Bluetooth Chip" needed updating so I accepted this and it came back that it was install successfully.
Yesterday the same thing happened and again I accepted it and it was successfully installed. Guess what, today Windows Update still says "Realtek Semiconductor Corp. - Bluetooth Controller - CSR Bluetooth Chip" needs updating.
When I check in the Device Manager the driver is dated 24/6/2010 version so it has not been updated. If I click "Update Driver" it searches, downloads and installs an updated driver (so it says) but it has not, the date is still 24/6/2010.
Has anyone any suggestions why this is happening and how I can make the new driver install correctly.

Hi and Welcome to TSF!

Hide the update in Windows Updates, then go to the manufacturer's website of your computer and download the driver from there.

When clicking "Search for update" in Device Manager, all it does is use Windows Update.

This really isn't a problem query but a heads up for those that are upgrading to Windows 10 Creator Edition. The other day I upgraded my HP laptop to the new Windows 10 Creator Edition and after the install I wanted to look at something via the Control Panel.  When I launched Control Panel the folder came up and showed a number of applets inside but the screen clocked briefly and the Control Panel abruptly closed with no warning and no error message.  To make a very long story short I found that the IDT Audio driver on my laptop was from 2013 and the IDTNC64.CPL file in the system32 folder that's part of this driver was the reason for my control panel was crashing. The good news is that HP has an updated driver that is Windows 10 compatible and after installing the new driver the problem went away.  Note that I had no trouble with Control Panel on earlier versions of Windows 10 with the old driver but the Creator edition has issues and requires an upgrade. Hope this helps someone.

I have Update set up to notify me but not automatically install updates. Is there any way to permanently remove this particular update from the list or do I just have to remember to keep unchecking it's box?

I know I can right-click and hide the update but I'm worried it will still install even though it no longer appears in the list. Also, if this is the way to do it will I still have to watch out for newer versions popping up in the list?

A:Can I permanently stop Windows from updating my graphics driver?

if you right-click on the update, and select Hide, it won't be offered again until it's updated.
Alternatively switch OFF the Givie me Recommended updates the same as important' setting in the WU options.

After updating to windows 8.1 preview the graphics driver for intel integrated 3000 card is crashing at times and showing message driver stopped working

to correct the condition i have reboot my laptop hp1000-1140TU

A:Graphic driver crashes after updating to windows 8.1 previ

Just an FYI that your issue may be very difficult to resolve; in that, it just started happening after the update to Win 8.1. Now, as you are probably aware, many things can go wrong when one attempts an update to a Preview Release so my advice is to go back to your previous Windows version and I hope you have made the appropriate preparations to do so. Good luck.

I have lenovo y530 notebook.
Today i saw windows 7 drivers on their website.
Lenovo Support - Drivers & Downloads
Here is the question
As you know windows update find most of (95%) of drivers itself.
Is it better to use office drivers or let the windows update to it itself ?

A:Updating Driver Via Windows Update OR Offical Drivers

I would run the windows update then check that driver date with what lenovo has on their site. If the site one is newer use that one if they are the same then you should be fine.

So after running a fresh install of 7 because I was fed up with 10, I am having even more problems.

Brand new install, literally the only thing I have done was install the drivers, try to run Windows Update, try to update a driver, and then followed the steps in this thread:

Both Windows and Driver updates just hang up on searching. They search, nonstop, and I don't get any results. I also had an issue with .NET Framework 4 not installing, but I think that was because I didn't have SP3? (That was a previous fresh Win 7 install)...

So I need help. I am pretty proficient with computers, but I am at a loss of what to do. Google has been no help.

A:Fresh Install Win 7 - Windows & Driver Updating Hung up

What version and bit number of Windows 7 did you do a clean install of, and did it include Service Pack 1(SP1)?

Is your computer a factory-brand one or a custom/home-made one?

By the way, Windows 7 has never had a SP2 or SP3 upgrade, so I don't know why you're referring to SP3.

A:Bios update fail. Blank screen while updating bios

Please check and see if you can get into BIOS. By the way list Dell model number and version of window. Ex: Dell Inspiron 3543, windows 10
1. Power off computer
2. Power on computer, quickly start tapping F2 key continuously. Hopefully, you'll be able to see BIOS screen.

hi there, i am fixing a friends old computer and the hdd was stuffed so i got a new maxtor diamondmax 9 for it. although once installing it i found out that it would only run in udma2 mode (checked it in another computer and it ran at full udma6)
so i suspect that the current bios cannot support udma5 or 6, so i am looking for a bios upgrade for it.
the bios string is 6A69RPRDC-00, the number on the actual motherboard is 35-C960-00-05
thanks for any help, i am really hoping i can make this board work at udma5 at least and not have to settle for udma2.
thanks again

ps. i just found this
04/19/2001-i815-ITE87X2-6A69RPRDC-00 ITE87X2 + Winbond-W39A
at http://www.plasma-online.de/english/identify/serial/mainboard/mb_aristo.html
if that is any help.

A:help with updating bios. cannot find bios upgrade - 6A69RPRDC-00

Old Machines.....(just like me... but can still perform to the max lol)

I your Bios has the option of udma up to 6 then generally the bios supports the Mode! and your problem is that the HDD does not support the mode (cant remember if you said it does).

You are probably using wrong criteria for bios upgrade search.
Try WWW.driverguide,com

You Need the MB's Manufacturers Name or at least the MB Chipset and bios Manufacturers Name as well. go to the Computers muanufacturers website (you probably done that already) and search model.

otherwise Download a System info utility from Tech Spot, I use SiSoft Sandra or AIDA32.. (sandra might cause bluescreen on older machines).. Aida problably will have link direct to bios update site. hope this was of some help

I've just updated my Z830 to Windows 10, and keep getting the following error message:

The current Dolby audio driver version 7.2.8000.17 and the software application expects driver version 7.2.7000.7.Please install a valid driver and software application combination.

The driver is looking for an earlier version, not the latest version, of the driver.

I've tried finding an answer to this problem but the only thing I've come across is an earlier thread on this forum about a Z830-10U, with a suggestion to go to http://win10upgrade.toshiba.com/swup...=en&country=GB. Our model isn't listed, so the suggestion was to try the Z930. I tried this but it didn't work.

Could someone please advise on how I can fix this problem?
with thanks, Julieanne
