I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Would anyone from Lenovo be able to give me the 'supplier part number' for an 8GB DRAM or DDR DIMM that works with this L440 Laptop - Type 20ASS06Y00 S/N R9****** ?

03X6657 is the Lenovo part number.  That corresponds to several manufacturers' part numbers off various brands.

If you are buying non-Lenovo-branded RAM, you need DDR3L (1.35v) 1600 mHz SODIMM.  It might be described as PC3-12800.  Avoid RAM labeled Value Ram.  I always suggest checking return policy on RAM before buying.  Everybody has their favorite brands.  If I am buying RAM for myself, I like Corsair Vengeance.  I have never had a failure or a compatibility problem.

Hi all! I've got a question: my L440 (20AS) will not boot when I connect a monitor over DisplayPort to it - it gets stuck on the ThinkPad boot logo. If I connect the monitor while Windows is running, it works fine. The monitor in question is a Dell P2415Q, it's connected to the DisplayPort on the computer, which sits on a Basic Dock (the dock doesn't have a DP on it).Have tried playing with various boot/power settings in the BIOS, haven't managed to find a combination that works. Has anyone encountered/fixed this? Thanks and kind regards,Marin

I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed. Having said that... I was given a teal-colored Power Mac G3 circa 1998, original specs: 400MHZ, 1MB cache, 128 MB SDRAM, 6GB HD, DVD, ZIP drive. A relative's IT person at a major university supposedly upgraded this CPU to a current Mac operating system (a recent version of OSX). I then purchased an Apple 17 in. Studio Display monitor (circa 2000) from eBay. The male Apple display connector has a different configuration than the female monitor port on the CPU. I believe that the port on the CPU, which is labelled with the number "one", is a VGA port, with three horizontal rows of 5 holes for a total of 15 holes (please bear with me!). The male end on the ADC is much more oblong, has 30 pins, and on one side of the pins it features a horizontal protrubing piece of metal which has two pins above and below it (this is my best description). I have seen ADC to VGA adaptors on the market, and I'd like to know if one of these would solve my problem of connectivity? Any help would be terrific (aside from being told to go jump in a lake). Thank you in advance!

A:Monitor & CPU compatibility... help (please)!

ok, so i'm guessing one looks like this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/d5/DVI_Connector.jpg

and the other looks like this:
http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/9/92/SVGA_port.jpg/800px-SVGA_port.jpg

right?

if that's the case, a simple converter *should* fix that. they're not too expensive.

the "weird" looking plug is called a DVI port. the other 15 pin one shoudl be a standard VGA port. you should be shopping for something like this:
http://www.cablestogo.com/product.asp?cat_id=110&sku=26957

along with that you can get a standard female-male vga cord so it goes DVI port, adapter, VGA cord, VGA port.

hope that helps

I will be buying a HD monitor may be 1920x1200 or 1920x1080 resolution. I finalized Samsung P2350, if it is not available then I shall go for 2233SW 22". I wanted to buy a Dell one, but the customer care center of Dell told that only 19" monitor is in stock :!: So opted for Samsung.
I have a old system of intel P4 1.7 GHZ with 384MB DDR RAM. Mobo: 845GLAD. No exernal graphics card, only inbuilt one.(I shall be upgrading my system shortly). So I want to know that if the monitor will compatible with my old system, will it run at full resolution (can not run any high end game with the system so no question of playing though. Will not watch any HD movies until full upgradation of system.) Just simply run it at native resolution of the monitor. Will inbuilt graphics card be able to handle the resolution??
Please answer it..thanx in advance.....

I am in the market for a new monitor, and the Viewsonic VX1945wm seems quite attractive because of contrast, response time, and features. I have an Intel 82845G graphics card, but I am not sure whether the monitor (optimal resolution 1440x900) will be able to display an image without distorting it in some way, since the 82845G doesn't have a 1440x900 setting. Should I get a widescreen monitor, or just get a fullscreen one? Also, would games that don't support widescreen get stretched out?

Hi,
I have two Apple monitors and I do not know if they work. The plug on the cables is 15 pin but it is the large type plug and won't work on my computer. I asked the guy that sold me my computer about it and told him that there was a connector/adaptor that goes from the large 15 pin to the small 15 pin, but he says it still will not work because of "frequencies". Is this true?
Is my only answer to buy an adaptor and try it?

The monitor on my HP Pavilion a1720n has gone bad. I was shopping for a low-end replacement and found one that looked good for my low-tech purposes: an HP S2031. But one of the online reviews of this monitor contained this warning: "Make sure that your graphics card supports 1600 X 900 resolution. I thought mine did and it does not." So my question is this: does my computer's graphics card--an "Intel 82945G Express Chipset Family"--support the 1600 X 900 resolution of the new HP monitor?

It depends on the exact video system. But generally UHD or 4K 3840 x 2160 can only be driven from a displayport and not HDMI. But HDMI 2.0 can do 4k resolution. So in order to answer we need a specific model number to see if it has DP or HDMI 2.0 and which video card it has installed to be sure it is capable of 4K output.

to get dual monitor you need to use 1x dvi port 1 x hdmi or 1 x display port, you can't use the 2 dvi ports for dual monitor.

Hi all,

Ser vi ce Ta g: 4GHR5N1

Some links to those screens: 1920x1080 screens and 1600x900 screens.

You also might be interested in how we ended up with a broken monitor:
a few months ago my father did the most stupid thing since he started carrying computers with him to work. It was a monday morning of course, 6:00. By accident he put the laptop (in it's bag) against the weel of his car and then rode of, with the rear wheel straight over his computer.
The computer was curved, the monitor assembly dented and the right side (with the disk reader) had a serious Z-curve, aside from also being quite a bit flatter.
Luckily the motherboard wasn't damaged. I downloaded the service manual, threw the computer open, bended the parts back in shape with some force and gave them some volume again. I removed the monitor and connected the pc to an external screen and now it's running fine again, with all the electronics working (including the DVD player), except the screen, which I didn't even test as the fluid flows freely around inside.
Long story short: Dell computers are well made!

It's working fine now but we would like to use it again as a laptop, so that's why we were looking for a replacement screen.

Hello finally I got my L440 and made RAM upgrade to 16GB and I also want it to have an SSD. After reading all the manuals and forum messages I think that it have  a sutiable port for an mSATA SDD which will solve my problem in a great way without replacing anything.

My question is, my machine didn't come with an mSATA or WWAN option. While making the RAM upgrade I checked the ports and there is only one seems to be suitable for mSATA but since area is too small I couldn't be sure if it is the one. Can you please check the attachment and tell me if any mSATA will fit in that port? Or maybe it is not for mSATA and I should go with the traditional SSD solutions by replacing the disc?

From what I read here in the boards, finding a high capacity SSD in the right physical size is  a problem.  There are multiple sizes - IIRC the 42mm version is used in Lenovo laptops.

Is there any other thing I should to complete the replacement? The OS is on my HDD, but I don't plan to move it to the new SSD. In this case, do I just need to remove the old one and install the new one? The reason why I ask is that the manual says: "Ensure that you partition the M.2 solid-state drive after installing it on the computer you are servicing. Otherwise, the M.2 solid-state drive will not function correctly." Thanks a lot!

So I got 2x8gb of RAM, my L440 came with 4. I took out the 4gb slot and put the first 8gb stick on there. My problem is that I can't put on the second RAM stick. The RAM pins dont slide in like the first one. I try to lightly push it in but It doesnt slide in the slot. Am I doing something wrong? Where exactly are the pins supposed to go?

A:L440/L540 second ram slot

Hello Mui, welcome to the community,

there are two slots, one on top of the other, on the L440.  When inserting RAM you need to ensure that you initially position and insert the module at an angle of about 20° to the slot and then push it down into place.  See p74 (pdf p80) of the Harware Maintenance Manual.

If needs require I'm sure you will loads of video tutorials on YouTube.  And please don't forget to let us know how you got on.

A:thinkpad l440 cpu upgrade?

If you do it yourself it will certainly be cheaper, but the CPU is not considered customer-replaceable, so it may affect your warranty status. If you can do the replacement in a professional manner, so it doesn't look worked on, probably nobody will complain, as long as you keep the old part and replace it back before getting service. The FRU of the i7-4600m is 04X4049. You do not want to get one marked "ES" (engineering sample). The ES parts may not be final versions

I have seen people successfully putting 42mm SSD cards in the m.2 slot in the L440. Is it possible to remove an existing wan card and replace it with an SSD. If not, can someone explain why.

Thanks in advance.

This is not a driver issue as problem is presistant from start of the pc. External monitor works fine. Any ideas?

A:L440 LCD backlight issue

Hi Shlapenka,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

We are sorry to hear that LCD backlight is not working in L440 laptop.

Usually, these symptoms indicate a blown fuse on the motherboard.  The issue comes up frequently when LED-backlight screens are broken.  Lenovo does not do this type of repair (other than motherboard replacement). It can be done, but most places do not have the specialized equipment to diagnose and repair.

I would like to suggest you to visit the authorised Lenovo service centre for the hardware assistance.
