Laptop crashes during video calls.

Q: Laptop crashes during video calls.

Everytime I use Skype or Google Hangouts my computer completely crashes during the call at some point. It can be 10 minutes in or 40 minutes in. I have reinstalled Skype. I have reinstalled my audio drivers as I thought it might be Conexon Smart Audio causing the crash (I have an ASUS K501U).

Recently I made some changes to speed up my CPU, I increased the quad cores (which I have subsequently decreased again) deleted my temporary files and deleted some unwanted applications. I also disabled start-up on some applications.

Since this point I have been experiencing problems. Can somebody please help! Thanks.

Preferred Solution: Laptop crashes during video calls.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

It appears that your webcam is already having the latest driver. Support + Downloads: HD Webcam C270 - Logitech

Like many people, I have been using Zoom a lot recently I use Zoom on my Lenovo IdeaPad and I connect a bluetooth headset because I find the built in microphone is not really loud enough. However, every 15 minutes or so, I get an alert that my speaker is not working. At that point I need to turn off my headphones and turn them back on. When I do that, the entire Zoom will freeze. Does anyone know of a way I can fix this?

I have a IdeaPad S340-15IWL. I have been using a LG bluetooth collar.
I also used JBL Endurance Sprint - and the same thing happened.
Today I tried Anker SoundBuds Slim - these had the same issue.
Then Anker SoundBuds had another problem - they work, but when they are connected to my computer, I cannot hear anything through them. I know they work because when I connected it to a phone I was able to hear.

Hi all

just when I decided to invest in a smart TV and looking forward to using Skype to video call - Microsoft in its wisdom has decided to pull the support for the app and quick as a flash Samsung - the maker of the TV I was going to buy say it will no longer be available on their new smart tvs from June this year (2016). So now I'm totally confused as to what is a next best option to do video calls on a TV.

I know there will be other options and ways round this but I want the next best quality option without too much fuss when I want to use it. Would it be better to go back to HD and link the TV to a pc either via cable or wirelessly - can I use Chrome cast. Whatever I do it needs to be easy to use on a daily basis - I want to use this to teach online. In particular, does anyone have experience of using Google talk on a TV ??? please share
I realise I may have to get another monitor for my pc now to make this happen but I want to persevere with having a TV option too. ANY help and advice welcome but please use plain speak in any replies, thanks in advance.

Hi all,

I been using Skype for a long time now, but have only recently started using the video call feature. I find it quite useful. The problem is that the video freezes after a minute or two when I make video calls. I then have to restart to unfreeze it. I can be a hassle. The video freezes on both sides of the video call. One minute my video would freeze then the other side freezes as well. The audio is fine. There is nothing wrong with my webcam.

I have a Microsoft Lifecam VX 1000. Windows XP Professional. Service Pack 3.
I have version 4.1.0.141 of Skype

How can I make video calls that don't freeze?

Thanks in advance.

A:Frozen Video Calls in Skype

My experience has been that if I have too many extra's turned on the camera, it might freeze. I have a Logitech cam, and it has a feature called Low-light boost that sometimes has given me problems. (also accessed through Skype at Tools>Options>Video Settings. Then click on the button that says Webcam settings>Advanced Tab).

Other possibilities:
*Double check your camera driver for the latest version.
*Bad internet connection (double check firewalls, anti-virus etc.)
*Make sure you have the latest version of DirectX
*Make sure the camera application software is running at the same time as Skype.

Good luck, hope this helps.

Hello again. I thought that I had solved this issue a week ago, but alas, after four days, the problem has returned.

I have an HP Notebook and a Vizio HDTV. After the latest Windows 10 updates, when I mirror cast my laptop to my TV via HDMI cable, to watch videos from YouTube and other sites, the picture will freeze for a few seconds and the audio will stop and make that annoying buzzing sound before returning to normal. Last night, not only did the video and audio stop, but the computer reset itself!

I've tried updating the audio drivers on HP Support. I've tried uninstalling and re-installing the sound drivers. I tested the sound drivers and they always say that my speakers and audio are working perfectly. Last night, I did a full scan on Windows Defender and no threats were found. Last Week I did a Malwarebytes scan not once but twice! The first time it found malware and I removed it, but the second time no threats were found, yet the problem persists. I thought that the problem might be with my HDMI cable, but it works on my brother's HP notebook with no problems.

I'm at the end of my rope! I don't want to start shopping for a new laptop because this is the only issue that I'm having with my current HP, and this only started happening a couple of weeks ago after Windows 10 updated.

I have a HP Pavillon dv6000 with an intergrated webcam, and it comes pre-installed with Cyberlink Youcam software (and in case u ask, yes I do have the latest update of it). Im using Windows Vista Home Premium 32bit and Service Pack 1.

Video calls with people who do not have Windows live messenger 2009 (or any of the beta versions) is perfectly fine and show is sending and viewing each others webcam. With WLM09 users, I can send and view my contacts' webcam just fine like always.

However since I installed the new messenger I cannot video call other contacts with the new messenger. The second I click the Video tab to start a call, my messenger freezes, and the same happens if I accept their call.

I found one way of going around it, under audio and video set up if I do not set the CyberLink Web Camera Filter as the webcam I want to use, i.e. I select the default Simplo Webcam, which is the webcam with no software, it works! The only problem is the video quality is TERRIBLE and dark when I choose Simplo Webcam for some strange reason. I have always used CyberLink in all my previous versions of messenger and it worked fine. All the advanced webcam settings, brightness contrast blah blah blah, are the same so I dont know why the video quality is so poor..

In the preview in audio and video set up the video is very clear and crisp either way. Thats about all the information I know.

Hi,

I'm trying to use the latest version on Windows Live Messenger Version 2009 (Build 14.0.8089.726) to make video calls. I have a working webcam and microphone setup already. The problem is that the option to start a video call is faded out, therefore meaning I can't click on it. All the different ways to start a video call are faded out, which means I can't click on it. All the setting under "Tools" -> "Set Up Audio and Video" are correct. I am running Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3. I have a Microsoft Lifecam VX 1000 (includes microphone) that is working perfectly fine.

i am making phone calls through my laptop. i and my friend want to record some of our conversations. when i assigned the software to record from Microphone, i could record both my voice and my friend's but the problem is that since her sound came from the speakers, words got echoed and it is irritating her. (the mic is taking both mine and her voice) i tried to use a pair of earbuds but then i couldn't record her voice. (the mic is taking only my voice.)
i assigned the mixer as the source for the recording software; and can record her voice clear and without echoing problem but i no longer am able to record what i say in responce to her! (the software records the sounds inside windows but not my voice coming from mic.)
how can i record our voices both; without the echoing problem and with a reasonable qaulity?

Hello all,
I am looking for some assistance as to what is causing my computer to crash. It doesn't happen insanely often, but the way it crashes makes me think there's a hardware issue going on. I am mostly thinking it's either my CPU or one of my two graphics cards installed, but I'd be more inclined towards the GPU being faulty.

The reason being is that the crashes happen mostly when I'm doing HD video playback or editing video or visual effects. The software I use mostly is The Foundry's Nuke and Autodesk's Maya. I also experience video lag spikes during this, such as poor UI navigation within these software.

However, I have tried stress testing my CPU and graphics cards for hours without any crashes, and even performing fresh installs on the OS(Win7), so I'm not entirely sure which piece of hardware is causing me these crashes and spikes. Any and all help will be greatly appreciated.

Attached is the zip file including the dmp and driver information files as outlined in the forum. If you need any other information about my system, please let me know. Once again, thank you for all your help! Hope to hear from you all soon

Two of the three dumps blame your nVidia driver (the other dump is inconclusive), the first think to try would be going to NVidia's site and getting some different drivers and take it from there.

sounds like the usb is taking the irq the video card is on, just a guess.

Try putting your video card in a different pci slot, that should force it to a different irq. If that goes okay, then try and enable the usb again.

Hello all, I'd be greatly appreciative of some assistance...

My computer has gotten into the habit of when I'm running applications that toll heavily on the video card, it shuts down completely without warning. When I'm rendering edited video in Sony Vegas 8.0, dealing with large files in Photoshop CS4, playing a graphic-heavy game like GTA:SA, or even if I have a couple browser tabs open with Flash content in them (which is odd, because as I understand it, in-browser Flash doesn't call on the video card), it turns off.

The reason I suspect the video card or drivers is that those are the only instances when I have restarts, and only once I got a blue screen error message mentioning the video driver. I'm foolish and didn't make note of the exact error, and I only ran across it once.

To make sure my bases are covered, recently I replaced the video card (GeForce 8800GTS 320mb from a 6600GT 128mb), uninstalling and then reinstalling the drivers when doing so; all the heatsinks and fans are clear of debris; I replaced the power supply, upping the wattage; the memory's been replaced recently; all virus scans end up clean; and I reformatted the main drive and reinstalled everything. Still the problems continue. Short of more drastic measures, I'm a little stumped.

This happens in realplayer, wmplayer, divx, and power dvd. Also i have noticed if i dont close the error report the file seems to play fine in wmp, but with no sound.

Here is an example error message:

Faulting application wmplayer.exe, version 9.0.0.2980, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, fault address 0x00000000.

Hi peeps,

My problem is that my PC crashes whenever I try to edit large(ish) video files.
It crashes no matter what software I use, be it Dr.DivX, Ulead video Editor or others.

I get a Microsoft error report which says...

"The error was caused by an unrecoverable hardware error which forced the operating system to stop functioning.

Although we know the problem is caused by a hardware component, unfortunately the error report does not contain enough information to tell us the specific component. More than likely the problem is being caused by problems with one or more of the following computer components:

* Random Access Memory (RAM)
* System board
* Central Processing Unit (CPU)
* Power supply"

Anybody got any ideas what's causing it & what I can do to stop it?

AMD Athlon 3200+
1 gig ram
RADEON 9500 PRO / 9700

Alright, I have another problem or rather I should say I have found the root of my previous problem. .bik files will randomly crash my system... This makes no sense, at first it was the witcher that did it, now overlord does it once in a while as well. It does not allways happen when u play a .bik file. I have no Idea why it is doing this. has anyone run into this yet? I could really use a hand on this one.

including my dadiag, in hopes that someone knows whats up.
I just updated to 8.8 catalyst and drivers overlord started at that point, but the witcher has been doing all throughout. I keep bashing my head in and running in circles not finding anyone with a similar problem.

Thanks in advance for the help!

A:Video Crashes (bik files)

Go here, dl and run this, then post the results: VistaForums SysInfo Tool

I doubt very much your issue is related to .bik files. The number of games that contain .biks is large, at least 4,000. If Vista did have an issue with .bik files, not only would it be common knowledge, but it would have been fixed by now.

On my server pc it'll crash randomly while playing flash based videos via the web. The crash always takes a while to happen , but eventually leads to he system stop responding with the sound looping the last milisecond it was at. It happens somtimes immediatly or after a while.

I've tried display drivers , browser and flash updates , different browsers , still does it. The only remedy that actually works is if I have the display properties window open in the background , then it doesn't crash , weird.

I think it may have to do with the systems cpu which is always above 50c even idle due to the heatsink not sitting on it right.

A:flash video crashes

Well, first thing is to apply new thermal paste and re-seat the heatsink so that it is working properly and cooling your system down. Then try reducing the resolution of your screen when playing videos. If that works, update the video driver.

Whenever I render large files, my computer crashes. When I look at task manager CPU usage fluctuates between 80?90%. No more than 4 GB is used, though, even though I have 12 GB installed.

I have this problem with Windows Movie Maker, even tried Sony Vegas Pro Demo, which seemed more stable, but eventually crashed as well. I don?t get a BSOD, by the way.

Also, the RAM works fine when I use VST instruments.

I have two modules of 2GB (which came with the laptop) and two of 4GB. I tried the same with only 2 x 2GB and 2 x 4GB, but both attempts failed as well. Are all my modules defective?

I even made a clean install. It seemed to improve, because once I could edit a big file (+15 minutes), which would normally crash. But that?s like a hit and miss.

Am I missing something? The one thing that could be the problem is the PC getting too hot? I tried memtest (the one from Windows) and it crashed...

I recently did a clean install of xp pro. and ever sinc I haven;t been able to play any video files in any programs.

I'm running xp pro, on a 2gig AMD with 1gig of ram and a ge force fx 5600 (256mb). I've tried all the latest drivers, direct-x upgrades, video codects, and even sp1.

Any format of video file (mov, avi, wmv), any programs and even streaming vids in browsers will crash it. It will start to load, then the system will hang, no video picture or sound, and the mouse moves about an inch a mnute. I do a lot of multimedia work on here, so you can probably guess that it's causing a few probs!

Any help of suggestions would be massively appreciated! It plays games fine though, whichI'm sure some use video clips for the intro movies etc... which is odd, but probably of no relevance!

Thanks in advance!

How can I fix it so that when I open my videos in my documents I won't get the "windows explorer needs to shut down due to error message"? I can't even open the video folders.

A:My video folder crashes

Please try this workaround (you will need your Windows? XP SP2 CD or an integrated SP3 CD if SP3 is installed).

(In the event that you do not have a Windows? XP CD with SP2,(or SP3) you will need to 'borrow' one from a friend or colleague, as the manufacturer's "Recovery Discs" will not work in this instance.)

Insert the Windows? XP CD in your drive. (Hold down the Shift Key to prevent it from starting.)

Go start > Run ...in the box type in sfc /scannow …please take note of the space between the sfc and the /.

This is the System File Checker...it will scan all the Windows? core system files to ensure that they are in their respective correct places, and if not replace them from the CD.

During the scan you may be asked to Insert the CD, if this happens just go retry and let it do its thing.

One important point: While sfc is running, it is not advisable to do any other work, or have any browsers/programs running on the computer, until the scan is complete. (This process will generally take around 45-65 minutes to complete).

Hello all,

I need some help. I recently bought and started playing RIFT when it first came out. I don't remember if the game gave me problems then or not, but I decided to watercool my cpu and gpu and I was going to go 3way SLI so I bought two more of my 8800gtx. I have since put it all together and everything appears to be working great. However, when I go into playing RIFT, no longer than 5 min in, and the game stutters a bit, freezes, and then the screen goes blank and my monitor shuts off because it no longer is receiving a signal. That is its current state.

When I first began playing after watercooling, the game lasted longer. I could play for 30-40 min and occassionaly the screen would freeze, but a quick ctrl+alt+del out and then switch back to the game created a temporary fix. I would need to do this "fix" every 5-10 min and after about 3 or 4 times, the screen would freeze, I couldn't ctr+alt+del my way out and soon the screen goes black, and signal output stops.

I thought maybe I bought a bad card (I no longer can tell which of the 3 cards is my original :/ ). So I tried a different card, and same thing. I tried them in 2way and 3way sli and still the same thing. I've tried lowering graphics settings all the way. I've tried different games. The other games seem to work better, but still gives me some hanging issues and I honestly haven't tried it enough. I've made sure to download the latest drivers for MB and graphics. I&... Read more
