IE11 on both windows 7 and 10. HSTS intranet http://....gov.uk websites not working since KB4494440

Q: IE11 on both windows 7 and 10. HSTS intranet http://....gov.uk websites not working since KB4494440

Some of our intranet websites are using http. Our domain ends .gov.uk. Once KB4494440

https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4494440/windows-10-update-kb4494440 has been installed on a machine, that machine can no longer access the site. If we use a url of
http://sitename and leave off the domain part then the site works.
Is there a way of having intranet servers ignored regarding this behaviour so we can include the domain name as part of the URL?
I tried removing KB4494440 and was then able to access http intranet sites as long as I hadn't tried to access them with the update in place. This seems to suggest that there is a cache, but even after clearing the browser cache I still couldn't access
the sites. Can anyone tell me where the cache is
Regards
Pete.

Preferred Solution: IE11 on both windows 7 and 10. HSTS intranet http://....gov.uk websites not working since KB4494440

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,

I am running IE 11 on a Windows 2008 R2 SP1 server, which is part of a domain.

When accessing sites from the internal network, I get a blank page. I noticed that it was due to the fact that these sites are not in the "Local intranet" zone, and when I add them manually it works.

In Internet Options > Security > Local intranet, when I click on "Sites", I directly have the window with the advanced configuration, where I have to manually define a list of websites. I do not see the window
with the "Automatically detect intranet network" checkbox (but I have it on other servers).

If I manually add the IP and domain with wildcards, I can access my internal sites, but I would have to do that for every user connecting to the server. I'd prefer if it was automatic, as it is on other servers.

Can you help me please ?
Thanks.

I am having a lot of hard time. I have a cloned virtual machines and on one of the VM, IE11 is not detecting any of the internal sites in Intranet zone, while other machines are detecting internal site as Intranet. I have checked almost everything like NIC
config, VM config, IE related registry settings, IE options, GPO, installed programs and patches etc. All these things are exactly the same on other VMs where internal sites are getting detected correctly.

Hi,
I'm currently have the issue, that mainly PDF files are handled different ways on each website.

First example: I open a PDF file in our document management system (Intranet), I only can choose to save
the file. If I open the catering menu pdf (Intranet), it opens directly in the IE11.
Seconde example: I search google for any PDF (i.e.
http://www.orimi.com/pdf-test.pdf), it opens within the IE11.
If I open Outlook Webaccess, I only can download the file.
In the past with IE 10, I have been asked to open or to save the file.

Any idea what happened here? IE 11 is configured through GPO.

Thank you for your help!

We have deployed IE11 via IEAK and have a proxy set which currently set to return direct for all sites. This means IE is seeing all external sites in the intranet zone due to the setting 'include all sites that bypass the proxy server' being enabled. If
I manually untick this then everything works as all external sites are in the internet zone and the setting is permanent.
However, I need to deploy this setting site wide and the group policy "Windows Components/Internet Explorer/Internet Control Panel/Security Page - Intranet Sites: Include all sites that bypass the proxy server" (both computer and user) set to disable
only greys out the box unticked but does not actually move external sites into the internet zone.
I've tried using GPP to delete the registry key HKCU\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\ZoneMap\Proxybypass which does work but as soon as I re-launch IE the setting is written back with the value 1 and it is back in the wrong state
again.
Using process monitor I can see it is iexplore.exe that sets this key back to 1 on launch and when I manually untick the box all it does it delete the Proxybypass key and nothing else. Has anyone seen this before and managed to work around it?  It seems

Hi,

We have an odd issue. IE11 is running all sites in compatibility mode. This appears to be because it is treating all sites as being in the Intranet Zone. This is:
a) breaks many websites that require modern browsers
b) is a huge security issue as many protections are disabled by default on the intranet zone.

Has anyone else seen this or have ideas on what we can do to solve it.

I will add that we have autodetect proxy settings enabled, and wpad hosts a proxy.pac that instructs browsers to go direct to all websites.

Thanks

Hello Brad mate that error means the page cannot be found - I can access my works intranet site with no problems are you absolutely sure you are searching for the correct address??
If you are then you may have to contact your IT people and get access but really unless the site is configured as a high security one you should just be able to open it up.

I have a question which is foxing the best in our organization and any assistance with cracking it will be greatly appreciated. Please note I am not a system engineer on any of these platforms, but at the business facing end so by no means an expert.
We have two Intranet applications. Lets Call them IR and PG to protect their identity. Both are within the internal firewall as are all the users. Both are served up via IE11. IR is a Unix based app and PG a Windows/IIS based app. And both allow the user
to download reports in Excel format and ordinarily display the yellow popup Open/Save/Cancel when the report has been downloaded.
We have users for both these in Locations B and L. For what ever reason, users in Location B cannot access EXTERNAL websites, except where those sites are on a whitelist.. Users in L can, by and large access any website unless its blacklisted, and blacklisting
applies to everyone.
Users in Location B are NOT able to download the reports for Application PG. Nothing appears in the Download folder, no error is generated or logged etc. On the very same machine, a user in Location L can download Excel files as expected If we take
the user out of the AD group which restricts them to the whitelisted sites, they can also download Excel files.
BUT we have confirmed using the IE debug functionality that no external URL's are being called, a fact confirmed by the vendor of application PG.
The very same users are ALSO users of application IR and th... Read more

Hi there

This only seems a problem with IE11 - happened after latest update

can somebody please test this link with IE11 to see if it's W10 that's a problem or the particular site or something on my machine

From the BBC - Main / Home page works fine but then links get broken or hang.

On Edge / Firefox - works correctly !!!

Rail fares increase by 1.1% in England, Scotland and Wales - BBC News

This site seems broken as well using IE11. Home (Main) pge appears then IE11 hangs

Yahoo Finance - Business Finance, Stock Market, Quotes, News

I'm running latest build (NOT the insider version) of W10 Pro X-64

Strangely enough THIS site (the forums) works OK with IE11

Thanks and happy new year everyone.

The last couple of days, the disk usage in task manager goes all the way up to 100% when opening websites in IE11.
This lasts from anything from 10 to 40 seconds, after which disk usage goes down to less than 10%, untill I want to visit another side or scroll through a page.
CPU and memory usage are not effected.
I have already reset internet explorer settings to default, but with no result.
The problem doesn't occur in other browsers like Edge, Firefox or Tor.

Hi there
strange behaviour on IE11 with Win 8.1 (Enterprise preview). On scrolling where there is a right scroll bar - i.e up and down on websites I get a jerky movement with a scrolling mouse. Other non web scrolls are fine. I've tested this with two completely different mice and it's the same problem. Sometimes also if I try and scroll UPWARDS the scroll reverts DOWN again. I noticed this happened AFTER I'd disabled the enhanced security settings for IE 11 -- I was getting fed up with UAC warning messages -- rather like the annoying UAC in VISTA.

THis only happens in the ENTERPRISE version. It must be something to do with Rendering as OPERA and CHROME are fine -- but I need to test IE11. Unless this is fixed it will be a SHOWSTOPPER.

I'm testing in a REAL physical machine not a VM in this case -- although strangely the VM version works fine so it must be something to do with the video driver.
Update : - strange one --went back to the manufacturers site and re-installed the W7 version of the driver (note the W7 not even W8 version) of the video driver -- all fixed now.

BTW W7 with IE11 installed didn't exhibit this problem which led me to try and install the W7 video driver.

I need to see if it's only on this laptop or a more general problem.

Cheers
jimbo

I am in the process of deploying IE11 out to my network of Win 7 boxes. In my test office the person that does online ordering is having to reset all their passwords on all the sites that have secure checkout. Most cases don't require the page to be put in compatibility mode and a reset of the password fixes it. Is this to be expected or is there something I can do to prevent this going forward as I don't want a flood of calls when the rest of the people that do ordering in other offices go through the same issues.

I loaded IE11 preview a few days ago and it has worked flawlessly. Today I ran Windows Update and after this IE11 would not open - I just got an error message saying IE could not operate. It took a number of closing of the error dialogue box to get the error boxes tto stop appearing. I have gone back to IE10 and have no problems again. I tried reinstalling 11 and it worked fine again - until I ran Windows Update again same problem happened. I am sure there is some conflict with an update or more - KB2879017 looks a likely culprit.

Grateful for any advice on how to get IE11 to co-exist with Windows Update. Thanks.

I'm running W7 Professional 64bit. Entirely stable system - no problems.

I believe this to be a Winows10 issue, only because I've only seen it on a windows10 computer and it wasn't previously a problem (so I'm told - this is on a client's computer).

Any attempt to access a web page on an HTTP website results in a failure with too many redirects. This could be accessing the site itself or just a page or document on such a site. It's the only computer I've seen this on; tablets and Windows7 computers have no trouble accessing the sites and there is no problem whatsoever accessing HTTPS websites.

I can't find any settings anywhere that can control this and I can't think of any way I could make this happen. I can cause problems accessing HTTPS websites by having wrong date/time settings but nothing I've found anywhere has reported this particular problem and any solutions provided concentrate on things like clearing cache, correcting the redirect error (!) and so on - none of which apply here (all cache and other settings have been cleared).

This happens on ALL browsers on this computer; Chrome, Firefox, IE and Edge.

Any ideas? Anyone come across this issue? I've tried restoring to the oldest restore point available but that's only a week or so ago and the problem persists. Win10 is at 1803. The problem doesn't show on an older system which is Win10 1709.

I have Firefox ESR 45.4.0 running on a laptop with Windows 7 Enterprise.

Since installing security updates two days ago, Firefox has been unable to access certain sites, mostly notably Google and YouTube. It complains that the connection is insecure and gives an SEC_ERROR_UNKNOWN_ISSUER error code. There is no option to add an exception. I can still access those websites normally using Internet Explorer.

From what I gather, this is due to HSTS enforcement. I've tried several workarounds, none of which have helped:
Disabled the "Query OCSP responder servers to confirm the current validity of certificates" option
Disabled HSTS by creating a variable test.currentTimeOffsetSeconds with a value of 11491200
Disabled TLS by changing security.tls.version.min to 0
Refreshed Firefox
Imported updated certificates provided by my company
Changed the system time to a date before the issue started occurring (only worked for one site)

I'm sure the solution is very simple, but I can't figure it out for the life of me. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

For the record, the problem only occurs when I'm connected to our corporate network. There are no issues if I use any other Wi-Fi connection.

Yesterday I decided that I was gonna really go through my startup tab in msconfig. So I searched through and removed everything that I didn't need and wouldn't be missed by me or the computer. So I did so and went on my daily surfing and everything worked fine. I shut of my computer and went to sleep.

Then this morning, I turned on my computer and tried accessing the internet with google chrome. I tried google, youtube, and a bunch of different sites with every browser I have (5 of them), and every time it would just load and not do anything but that, no 404 error report no nothing. the only sites I was able to enter at the time were https sites.

But then I try google again and it works fine! I don't know how long exactly it takes from boot-up to me being able to access http sites, but I am guessing 15-20 minutes.

So I was wondering if me removing startup .exe files could have done this? because every file I didn't know what was I checked up online and if I was even remotely concerned that is was part of the OS, I didn't do anything about it.

Also, I installed a piece of software called Uniblue Powersuite. I don't know if this could have anything to do with it, but it does mess around with your registry and does things to your machine to try and speed it up. So there is a possibility of it messing with the wrong things and removing something important, even if it's not supposed to do that.

hope someone can help me with this because I do... Read more

A:Cannot open http websites, but works after a while!

Subject to any other responses you get, my first thought would be to look and see if you have a recent System Restore point from before you amended your startups and installed Uniblue. These programs which claim to speed up systems can cause more harm than good!.

If you don't have a recent enough Restore point, wait and see what other suggestions you get. One thing you could do in the meantime is to check the Uniblue program to see if it creates backups of the 'adjustments' it makes so you could think about restoring such a backup to see if it helps.

I don't know anything about Uniblue software so I don't know if there is any chance that using it again could make the situation worse, which is why I suggested you wait for some other responses.

Hello!

My computer appears to be infected by Malware. When I do a search using any search engine and try to click some of the links that come back, the website is redirected to the url hxxp://r9237242.cn/ and a marketing webpage of some kind appears. Sometimes a "Windows Security" page will pop up saying I have all kinds of viruses and when I try to cancel or exit, I can't so I have to shut down to get rid of it. First I will run my Webroot and Malwarebytes programs but that doesn't stop the website hijacking that appears to be happening. I saw a similar complaint on your website that suggested downloading a ComboFix program. Please advise! Your help is appreciated!!

There are some websites that use https for some of their pages (like the login screen) and http for other pages like the home screen. On websites like these when I am redirected to an http page after logging in I still have the option of logging in and when I try to do this the page just refreshes. I believe that I am logged in to the website but because I logged in on a page using https if I then go to an http page it doesn't recognise that I am logged in. I think this is a problem with my network settings for connecting to the internet as other people I know are not having my problem on the same sites. How can i fix this?

Can you provide the make/model of your computer, along with the operating system?

Additionally, what browser are you using? Have you tried another browser?

On this computer, have you tried taking it to another network and seeing if you experience the same issues? Do other devices on your network experience the same issues as well?

This issue arises randomly and only once has it ever recovered. Event viewer also does not show anything either. Restarting fixes this issue, but I would rather find out what caused this issue in the first place.

I cannot connect to any sites using HTTP or HTTPS but I can connect to my remote FTP server and PING works for any website. I have used 'netsh' in an attempt to fix my issues but it requires a restart where it would fix it temporarily.

I also cannot access any local IPs or my localhost web server. I can however access some of Google's websites on Google Chrome Dev but not on any other browser. For the other sites I get a TIMED_OUT error. I have reinstalled my network drivers and reset my network settings (including DNS) but nothing else works.

I even turned off Bitdefender Firewall and Antivirus and Malwarebytes and issued a system scan but does not impact anything.

Check your proxy settings. Disable "automatic" proxy settings if you don't use one.

Hi,

Alright, I've been having this problem from an extended amount of time, however, it wasn't as prominent as before because I didn't have a permanent internet connection. Now that I have one this problem has become a bigger problem.

Firstly, I'd like to point out that this error occurs in all browsers I've used. These include the SRware Iron, Chrome, Firefox and IE.

My main browser is Chrome.

I have scanned my computer with malwarebytes and have eset antivirus installed and whenever I get an infection I remove it immediately.

Now here is my problem.

On most sites that contain a login system I cannot browse it or login unless there is an option to browse it with SSL. On other sites I can login in, but then the sessionid disappears after a second or two, basically, when I reload the page after even 1 second I need to log in again. This makes it impossible to actually use some sites that I would like to use.

I have cookies enabled.
I have javascript enabled.

My timezone and internet time is correct and synced.

I have tried everything conceivable that I can think of to fix this problem and nothing works. I do not have the option of formatting my computer and my system restore points were disabled.

I cannot use the /scannow option in cmd because I no longer have access to my OS disc, hence why I can't format and I cannot afford to purchase another one.

For further details, when I started to look for ways to fix this I found that my windo... Read more

Hope you can help! I'm running Windows 7 Ultimate SP1, 4GB, 64bit, Intel i5, NVIDIA, Kaspersky Internet Security 15.0.2.
I primarily use IE11, but switch to Mozilla Firefox 43.0.2 when IE stops responding. My primary email is AOL which I access via web, not software. Computer often slow and hangs.

The main issue is IE11 "stops responding" several times a day. I've run the latest version of Malwarebytes (subscription), Glary Utilities Pro, Kaspersky IS, CCleaner, and Disk Cleanup. I delete browing history daily. No virus or malware shows up after scans. Recently ran a full scan on Kaspersky overnight+ and still, no viruses detected. I'm not sure what the issue is and would gladly go back to IE9 or 10 if IE11 is the issue, but I need to be sure.

Whatever guidance you can offer would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

Hi all,
under Win10 x64 & IE11 fully patched & updated, since some time I am unable to drag&drop websites to the "Favorites" bar in IE like before. I am now also unable to rearrange existing shortcuts at the bar by drag&drop.
What I already checked:

did reset all IE setting incl. personal settings - no effectStarted IE without addons - no effectTried with another user profile, no effectremoved almost all items from autostart (using MSConfig), no effectchecked folder permissions on my "Favorites" folder, they are fine
But:

Booting Win10 in safe mode, drag&drop works, rearrange worksAdding a website using a button "Add to a favorites bar" worksafter opening "favorites" on the left side of IE and navigating to "Favorites Bar" folder, I was ABLE to rearrange shortcuts there, and the changes were instantly reflected on my "Favorites" bar.
Any suggestions?
I have found this thread with exactly same sympthoms, but unfortunately the "solution" provided there (and somehow marked as answer (???!!!))  is not a solution.

Hi. I have had this problem for many months now and have tried to remove the infection manually using instructions found on ehow, using Norton Antivirus, malwarebytes and spybot search and destroy. Nothing has been successful at removing it. I have just been using my laptop instead of my desktop because I don't want to use an infected computer. The computer is running Windows XP Professional SP3. I receive notifications from Norton that an intrusion attempt has been blocked. When I go into the log, I found that there were three high risk log entries, one for HTTP Tide Serv Request2, one for HTTP CrimePack Activity 1, and one for HTTP Nukesploit Request. As I mentioned this has been going on for months now. At the beginning it was mostly just HTTP Tide Serv Request2, the other two are new today. I'm hoping you can help me, otherwise I'm going to have to reinstall Windows, which I'd like to avoid doing. I hope I have included enough background. My scans are below and attached. Your help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks,
Mike

HTTP traffic in IE 7 stops working about five minutes after booting up. This started after the latest Windows Update.

HTTPS and email always works .

The only solution is to reboot the computer. After about five minutes, HTTP stops working again.

I have 2 GB MB of RAM, Windows XP Pro, service pack 3. This happens even when the browser is the only program running.

I have updated and run Ad Aware and Spybot.

I am up to date with AVG and ran a complete system scan. Nothing found.

Hello,
I'm currently in the process of testing/deploying IE11 in our environment and I've begun testing on the IE11 Enterprise Site List manager.
I've read that there are a few different ways to configure the XML file to apply via GPO per the article below.  HTTP, Local Network, Local File. (https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/Dn640699.aspx)
In my isolated testing I've chosen to use the local file method which is very easy to setup and use on a testing machine.
It looks like we have the flexibility to choose how we apply the XML file, and I was curious what the best options are and why?  Also are there examples of each setup being used and the benefits/downsides to each?
Here's the options that I can see using:
1. HTTP - setup an IIS website to host the XML file.
2. Local Network (UNC) - setup a UNC path on our DFS where we store the current XML file and users would have read only access to that location.
3. Local File - We could just deploy the XML file via SCCM package/application when updates to the list are required.
Could anyone please point me towards some articles, etc, explaining the pro's and cons of these methods and why I might want to choose one over the other?  I'm leaning towards just using a DFS share and option #2 because it doesn't require us to maintain
an IIS site for it but I am curious to hear if there might be any downsides to this method, or benefits to going with another method.
Thanks!

I'm not sure when this started exactly because it seemed to affect only certain sites, then it got progressively worse from there. I have Firefox installed and it is working fine. I first noticed the problem in IE when watching a video on liveleak.com. There's a button at the bottom of the video pages. Clicking on it loads comments. It uses javascript. That stopped working.

About a week later videos on break.com stopped working. They just show up as a black box. At this point I started noticing all the functionality I was missing on other sites, comparing how they worked in Firefox. In fact, registering here was impossible in IE because the reCaptcha didn't show up.

I've checked all settings in IE and everything is correct. I'm the only one that uses this computer. It WAS working and it just stopped. I didn't change anything. I disabled antivirus and firewall. That didn't help.

I tried regsvr32 jscript.dll and regsvr32 jscript9.dll, which returned correct responses. Didn't help.

I ran sfc /scannow, which did find and correct errors. Didn't help.

I reinstalled IE11, flash, Java, cleared cache, temp files, java cache, everything else I could find that people suggested. No luck

Lacking anything else to try I uninstalled IE11 and every windows update back to July. I know it was working back then. That brought be back to IE8. JavaScript worked fine. I then updated to IE9 with no other windows updates. Again, JavaScript worked fine.

Well, the title says it all. I am looking for a way to set up a Windows 7 Professional kiosk on an intranet in a small company. I require a way to set up a computer to run ONLY Microsoft Excel spreadsheet. Also, I would like to have this computer automatically log in to a predetermined, non-admin account that I can bypass as an admin.
Currently, I have a Windows 7 computer with a touchscreen. All the computers at the small company are connected via intranet. The company needs a computer for multiple people to have access to the product and customer information on an Excel spreadsheet.
I have googled with no success. Well, actually, I did find things, But, nothing told me how I would be able to log in as the administrator to, say, perform maintenence on it. All I found was how to have a forced log in and automatically start Excel. But, they all seemed for a "Stand-alone" computer, which I believe does NOT include intranet computers.

Bottom line, I need a kiosk for Excel and an automatic login that I can bypass, as needed, as an admin.
If you have any questions, I will try my best to answer them.
Thank-you
