Pavilion DV7 w/3+ years of overheating. FAN WORKS FINE. NO U...

Q: Pavilion DV7 w/3+ years of overheating. FAN WORKS FINE. NO U...

I have begged, pleaded, posted, pouted, whined and PAID FOR the OVERHEATING of this $999 laptop WHICH I HAVE NEVER ONCE BEEN ABLE TO USE FOR MORE THAN 15 minutes at a time. Iam SOOOOO far beyond incensed I could probably beat up a bunny. Pavilion DV7OVERHEATING. IT IS NOT THE FAN AND THERE IS NO BIOS UPDATE. I have mailed it in, THREE times and subsequently been scammed out of paying for a new fan, which was never the problem t begin with.........and, as many of us have come to expect of HP, they fixed NOTHING. I have also called numerous times requesting help, DENIED. (paying for tech support) So, would someone kindly help me fix this? My 'real' laptop (mac) was stolen......sadly, I have NO choice but to try and get this up and running. It is a Pavilion DV7, fan works fine, in fact it runs perfectly.......overheats to the point that it literally shuts down the laptop. THERE ARE NO UPDATES, OF ANY KIND. (believe me, I have checked, dozens and dozens and dozens of times) I am running Windows 10 (against my will.........but thee is NO way to remove it. I have probably done 50 factory reset over the past 3.5 years and the last 3 factory resets that I did this month........Windows 10. Oh, and if anyone can help with this one.......I also have that AMD graphics pop up, asking for driver updates.........but their ARE NO UPDATES. It also shows 2 graphics cards, the AMD 4200 and AMD 5000. Factory resets, and poof, they both reappear every time. Even if I uninstall them and do a restart, they always reappear.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've been doing some online gaming (world of warcraft), and I kept getting these Error#131 issues. This would cause the game files to become corrupted and then I would have to repair, or reinstall. The WoW tech site says that chronic error #131 messages are either a Hard drive, Ram, or Motherboard issue.

Running the Windows Vista memory diagnostic tool has turned up some odd results, the initial test with a 1gb stick in slot #1 and a 1gb stick in slot #2 came back with errors. I then removed the ram from slot 2 and ran the test on slot 1 with 1 stick of ram.... no errors. I did the same with the other stick in slot 1.....no errors. this lead me to believe that it was slot#2 giving me the issue so I moved the ram from slot 2 to slot 3, thus having 1gb of ram in slot 1 and 1gb of ram in slot 3. After a little while......error#131 appeared.

So I then tested both sticks in slots 1 and 3 together and came back with ram errors, I then tested both sticks in slot #1, and then again in slot #2 and both tests came back fine. Any ideas on what this issue could be? I know both sticks are the same brand, speed, totally identical.

A:Ram Works fine in single sticks, not working fine together :P

Yeah, if someone wants a bit of a challenge then hear this. I have a pretty great old puzzle game with 45 levels called Fire_en (ie. the English language version). I've uploaded it to http://s000.tinyupload.com/?file_id=09313690338420475359. (Uh, the way this site works you can't just click on the link; you have to copy and paste onto a browser tab URL I guess.) I can assure it has no malware but of course you can always scan it with your virus protector to be prudent. If recollection serves, this game ran fine when my machine was using Windows ME. But now I can almost get it to work but not quite. I've tried it under Vista, W7 and W10 but so far no luck. However I did get it to work okay just one time, I think it was on the Vista PC. When I launched it one time a message came up balking about maybe some incompatibility with the process "MFC Resolution" and the message gave me the option to close MFC Resolution, and when I did so opt, the game launched and ran okay! But on subsequent launches I never again got that same error message and was never again presented with the opportunity to close the offending process, and the game doesn't launch right and it leaves its main subordinate routine, jeu.exe, in some hung-up state which I have to force kill with Task Manager. I'm pretty sure that Fire is a real straightforward app perhaps written in C++ perhaps utilizing Visual C++ runtime. You, the expert can readily make substantive determinations.... Read more

Probably this is something simple in IE7 options/settings but I failed to figure it out.

This is happening on my desktop (am writing this on my laptop). It's failing to connect, with the exception being "secure" sites - https://....

Email is working fine.

PS this happened after we did Microsoft livecare free scan and implemented corrective actions (malware/virus deletions); it then prompted us to reboot, then indicated new Windows updates to install, and then it prompted us to re-install IE7

I have Pavilion Elite HPE-590t PC, 5 years old. It starts to hang up during booting. This force me to force shutting and restart manually. It would take 2 to 3 times for the computer to boot completely.  Now when I put the computer to sleep, the computer shuts up and the fan keep running. The mouse or the key board would not reactivate the computer again. I must force shut off and reboot manually. The question is this a repairable issue remotely or otherwise it must go to a shop?Is this being a symptom for a dying computer?

Hi, after a long time I came back, settled in Toronto I found myself in need of superior assistance from the pros.

Not my laptop but a friends, by chance during lunch he mentions his webcam doesn't work anymore which surprised me cause I had to hold onto his laptop for 3 weeks while he was out of Canada, in any case I take a look and yes, webcam shows in use by another application, yet the webcam looks off and even skype is off, so instinct kicks and AV is not working, Win updates won't connect nor MB will update...tried to run Kas online...install closes by itself, and so it happens with every other malware detection program I tried, so I tell him to don't use it while I come back the next day and take it home, he managed to install and run some programs after googling around, in any case I have the laptop with me and so I decided to get help.

I have three internal hard drive
C: (Windows 7 x64 & Software)
E: (only photoshop picture)
F: (only music, video, company files based on my years of work)

Since the time I install windows 7,
There was always problem when saving or trying to delete a file.
Like photoshop was saying to me 'can't save the file because of admisnistrator permission'. So i needed to recreate a new files each time.

I tried on hard drive E: folder to right click and remove the 'read only' case and that have helped for the photoshop saving problem.

but all the other mini bug that tell me : can't save file because of admisnistrator permission, kept going...
So i search on google how to become the administrator and have total control over my files. this is the website I follow instruction from :
How to Get Full Administrator Rights in Windows 7 | Web Talk

But I removed some user names in the permission and do not know how to add them or resolve this problem.

Now i can't completely access my E: drive AT ALL, neither C: drive at all
It write : E:/ Is not accessible Access is denied

Here is a picture of my screen and what I see :
Did I lost years of works or just can't access it ??
How do I access it??

A:Hard disk - Admistrator, permission problem??? YEARS OF WORKS DELETED?

Sounds like it would be worth the price of this program:

O&O Software - O&O DiskRecovery 6 Hard Disk Recovery Software

I used it to recover a lot of GBs of video on a defective drive, and was very happy with it.

EDIT: Rereading, I'm not certain that this would solve the permissions problem or not, so wait for someone else to chime in, before shelling out any money.

Hello there. I don't know if this is the right place, but here it is.

I've been having this problem with my computer for some months now. He keeps getting too hot and then turns off.
I use msi afterburner to monitor my temperature, and when I play some game (or watch something in 1080p), my CPU temperature rises up to 80, 85 degrees celsius, and then turns off.
Here to the specs:
Windows 10
My motherboard is a msi 990FXA-GD65;
My video is a GeForce GTX660;
My processor is a Corsair CX600.
I recently bought a new cooler, a Cooler Master Blizzard T2, but it has not improved my situation not even a little bit, and I already use the force fan control that MSI offers. Even then, it is not enough.
I know my cooler isn't the most modern, but it is one of the best available here in my small town in Brazil.

So, that said, I wonder if anyone know a way to help me.
Me wants some games.
Thank you

Mine is overheating like anything.. bought a new battery.. didn't get the free replacement one as I didn't know about it until it was too late.. so HP won't give me the free replacement one which is part of their recall!
Still is at about 90 degree Celsius.. and idles at a high temperature too!
The overheating I reckon has killed my hard drive so I have had to go out and buy a replacement hard drive.. it is very hot under the laptop.  It was giving me fatal errors due to overheating and turning itself off.
I don't want more things to die or for a fire to happen.
Is there a class action with the dv6's overheating problem as it is quite common?  They should be fixing it for free!  I don't know what to do about it now.. but it is burning up!

So I bought my laptop about a year ago, and its been a nice piece of hardware.  Well, up until recently.  I've noticed that my laptop has been getting hot for about half a year now, and several months ago I noticed that the computer had slight stability issues, so I decided to buy a fan accessory that sat on the bottom on my laptop to blow cool air in.  It didn't seem to help, so I decided to check the temperatures using a program called SpeedFan and I noticed that my "Core" is about 72C and my "Temp1" is at 80.  On the lowest of settings.  If I put my laptop to high performance, the laptop eventually craps out.  This even happens on "Recommended" settings.  What exactly should I do about this?

We have three Pavilion 17-f037cl and they run too hot. We noticed when one of them got so hot it started turning off by itself after about 15 minutes of use. We checked another one and it's running at 100 degrees Celsius when idle, and up to 115 under load. I ran a CPU stress test using Mersenne and didn't even hear the fan turn on until it got to 120. The fan battled it back down to 117, then it rose to 119 and stayed there. I stopped the test, and the fan dropped the temp to 100, then turned off again. Here's what I have tried so far:Removing dust. We blew out the vents with compressed air and didn't see anything, so I took it apart and visually inspected the fan. No dust visible on the fan or heat sink, but I blew compressed air over it anyway. No effect.Upgrading drivers. I upgraded the AMD graphics driver and the BIOS. No effect.Purchased a cooling mat. Barely made a difference. Just got a regular fan and put it on the vents, and that's keeping it cool enough so that it doesn't restart, but it still running around 105-110 C.Installed SpeedFan to see if I could use it to increase the fan speed. Speedfan couldn't find the fan, so no effect.Ran the HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEFI on Quick Mode. It scanned for about an hour and didn't find anything. Our other HPs are running at around 50 C.We did a clean install of Windows when we first got these, so maybe I deleted some important program like HP Coolsense? Hello- I've been having an chronic problem with my Pavlion g6 (AMD A6-4400M, 4.00GB Single-Channel DDR3). The fan is constantly running at high speed, the computer itself gets very hot and at times the fan is really loud just with one program open. I downloaded a program called Speccy to check what components are in my computer before I posted here. Speccy also shows the temperature of the processor, motherboard, graphics card and hard disk. So, I sent a screen shot of my Speccy to a friend who better at computers than I am and he freaked out when he saw my results. He noticed the processor was running at 122C and told me that's not good and that my computer should have shut off or burned up by that point. He suggested I clean out the ventilator fan, but its so difficult to get to without having a bit of know how. So I vacuumed out the various vents and I noticed a dramatic change in the fan speed, running much slower. But the temperature of the processor still goes from in between 90 and 120 C depending on how many program or even browser tabs open.  So I'm not sure what the next step should be. I saw this link and it made me wonder whether the fan is coated with dust and hair. http://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01657439 I read on the AMD site that their processors maximum temperature is 100, I don't want to fry my computer like an egg.  I've included two of my Speccy reports, one before vacuuming and the other after (t... A:130° C Overheating Pavilion g6

Hi 1stTimeLaptoper, welcome to the HP Forums. First of all, let me say that this was an excellent post! You are right to be concerned with the temperatures. The lifespan of a processor is directly related to how hot it gets and how often it gets hot. The troubleshooting you provided was right on the money for the first step. Did you also follow the link at the bottom for: Fan is Noisy and Spins Constantly, PC is Warmer than NormalIt is a journey to get to the Fan in a notebook. I assume you are not within the warranty period, otherwise you would have called for warranty repair right?I have included the:  HP Pavilion g6 Notebook PC Maintenance and Service Guide.  In this, page 69 leads to the instructions to get to the Fan & Heat Sink. If you do go so far as to reapplying thermal paste, I recommend reviewing this older YouTube video, for the application process:  Installing Thermal Compound (NCIX Tech Tips #11) I hope this helps.

Hey folks,

I've had my HP for 2yrs now and it's always been fine until the last 6 months or so when the battery life was slowly diminishing when it wasn't connected to the charger.

Anyway got a new 12-cell battery and ever since then my laptop's suddenly switches off due to overheating.

It got me thinking that that battery may be responsible?

However the laptop would overheat before this change but it never automatically switched off.

Any help?

Thanks, Naaila

A:Hp pavilion dv6000 overheating

Buy a can of compressed air and blow out any dust from the vents and fans.

The DV6000 is part of the heavily flawed line of HP models that has critical over heating and failure issues. Se if yours is one of them: http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c01087277&lc=en&cc=us

I'd also strongly recommend a BIOS model for the laptop even if its not one of the affected models, for the affected models its a must or you'll eventually end up with a non-functional laptop: http://h20180.www2.hp.com/apps/Look...pe=s-002&h_query=dv6000&submit.x=0&submit.y=0
Make sure to let the laptop cool down completely before doing the update.

After doing that if the laptop still has issues then maybe there is an issue with the new battery or due to its size its increasing the inherent overheating issue. Your 12 cell battery, is it a physically bigger battery?

So I bought 2 Pavilion g7s in 2013, for my wife and I. My cooling fan is always loud, and my wife's is always quiet... what the hell? Is this another case of HP putting out a botched assembly job, or what? My laptop is ALWAYS hot, and I use a cooling pad under it with 2 fans. I have the cooling on Passive just to keep it from shutting down with a thermal shutdown message when I restart it... not to mention the battery never fully charges. I think my laptop is a 15 0r 1300 series DX, but i don't remember. I have tried 3 times to upgrad to 8.1 and it shuts down halfway through setup... I think someone owes me a replacement... either that or a new cooling fan that I can switch out. What's the deal, HP?

So I have had my Dv6 for a while now and its fan always is on fully, and does not stop whirring. I sometimes play games on it, but noticed the processor shooting up to 90 degrees Celsius really quickly. and the same with the Ati Gpu. I have an intel core i7 Q720, and thought that ho would equip the laptop with a good enough cooling system.I have taken these approaches so far:1-bought an external fan table    result: little to no change 2- Set the maximum processor speed on 35%    result: no change in performance, but it still heats up to around 80 So what can I do to ensure the heat does not rise so far?Thank you guys in advance.  PS: I have read most of the posts asaking the same question, but most do not have the same processor and I have tried all the solutions posted by some helpful members.

A:Hp pavilion dv6 overheating really quickly.

If it is a bad cooling design, (I am not saying your is) there is not much you can do. If it is another problem like an improperly installed heasink, this can be repaired by a reputable repair shop.  Do you have a warranty? This may be normal operating temperatures for this model notebook and i7 Q720 processor, you would have to compare to others with the same hardware specs as yours.

My laptop which is just under 2 years old started overheating. I'm no PC newbie so I took the laptop all apart, took out the fan, cleaned all the dust out of the fins for the heatsink connected to the cooling pipe. I also cleaned the fan blades. I have never in ten years not seen this fix work - until now.

The PC shut down 5 or 6 times before I cleaned it. I use Speed Fan to see my HD temp and the temps for my CPU and GPU core sides (It's an AMD Trinity based A8 APU) My CPU runs the hottest at around 200 - 112 degrees F.

My Fan airflow is good and strong since the fan/fin cleaning BUT when the PC gets hot, the fan's air still seems cool compared to previous experience. it's seems like the heat isn't getting picked up by the fan but i cannot find any restrictions under the hood.

I have run burn in and other CPU/GPU stress tests and all accounts say my chips are working normally.

Is it possible my cooling pipe is bad?

Also, I read that overheating could cause thermal paste to dry out prematurely. This may be my only recourse but i never had to replace thermal paste before.

Please tell me what you guys think. Thanks!

A:HP Pavilion G7 Overheating All Clean - Now what?

Replacing the paste would be the next step. Personally I would have done it while having it apart the first time. Be sure not to overdue it when replacing as too much can be as bad as too little. A layer about as thick as a piece of paper is what you want to end up with. Also clean the surfaces with alcohol before applying.

The cooling pipe itself is a static device so it should never go bad, just copper pipe. If the paste doesn't fix it then could be the temp sensor circuit or possibly the CPU. I suppose even the motherboard. Could be a tough one to nail down.

For what it's worth, if the paste doesn't fix it, I would take it to a local repair shop where they have the tools to better isolate the problem. Depends how much they want compared to your valuation of it. It is one of the negatives about laptops when these kinds of issues arise. Not as easy to plug in a test part to see if it makes any difference.

Hey all. First time poster, long time lurker!

Ive had my i5 rig running on XP pro for a bit and then decided to upgrade to win7 Ultimate. installed 32bit fine, decided to go to 64bit. Install gets all the way through then reboots (which im told will happen). once its rebooted, install gets about 80% of the way through and says 'Windows 7 cannot configure your hardware to complete the install' or something of the like. what gives?!

ps- the 64 bit install was on recently formatted drive!

Computer specs:

Intel i5 760
Asus P7P55D mobo
Asus EAH4650 1GB VGA
2 x 2GB Corsair XMS3 DDR3 RAM
1 x WD Caviar Black 500GB HDD (Install drive)

help! please!!

A:32-bit works fine, cant install 64-bit?

First thing I would suggest is that you remove all non essential external hardware, (usb drives Etc), if present.

I have a MSI-875P neo motherboard with 512MB PC3200 DDR400 made by Infinion. I also have an ATI Radeon 9600 Pro card, and 3 Ghz prescott chip. My problem is that I cant see anything on the Monitor. POST comes on fine but I cant see anything. I know the Monitor works because ive used it with another computer. I have no Idea if my video card is working or if I have the wrong memory installed. I tried my old video card which is a Nvidia GeForce2 MX400 and I get the same result. Maybe it is not compatible with the two other motherboards. I also have a New ECS 848-P motherboard and when I try switching the motherboards I get the same result. I know the CPU works because it is brand new too. Most of these things were bought because of this problem. By the time I'll fix this problem I will probably have enough spare parts for another computer. I need help.

Hi everyone,

My current configuration is:

Athlon XP 1800+
512 MB
HD 80GB Hitachi
Asus CD-RW
Windows XP

I changed the power supply for a new 350W one and it works fine, but I haven't been able to boot the system yet.
If I connect everything up the only thing that will turn on is the fan of the processor and the power supply itself, but neither the HD or the CD-RW will.
But if I disconnect the data cable from the motherboard both components will turn on.
The HD is set as master and the CD-RW is slave, and they are plugged with the same data cable and same power chord.
I tried another power supply and everything works fine, but using that one on that computer is not an option.
I googled a couple of things like "change power supply" but none of them worked out.

Thanks very much in advance

The problem is only with the one PS? Things work fine when you replace it?

My new ASUS motherboard arrived this morning. removed and installed the new motherboard and booted up for the first time POST was successful which is a blessing for any system builder. Although, it was lacking the proverbial BEEP. So I am thinking, it must be the internal speaker, maybe I put the connectors backwards. checked all the cables and they are all connected and present.

No problem because I have across this before, so I updated the BIOS to the latest stable version. to my surprise this didn't resolve the issue. it boots fine it POSTS with no issues and I can access the BIOS. There are a few other things I can try. Take out all the RAM and then see if the motherboard haves a screaming fit and beeps like crazy at me. I shall try this later. I have created a small beep.bat file which consists of the following.

Within CMD I typed in the following command. cd desktop so you create a txt file on your desktop called beep.txt
echo. echo. ^G >> beep.txt
Open the beep.txt file and in there you'll find echo. [] The square represents a BEL tone which is sent to the speaker. I you use Notepad++ it will look like this

i know i'm completely new here but I'm having some issues with my system. i recently got some new parts to rebuild my system, trying to stay on the cheap side and watch my budget. im not a hardcore gamer but i do play some fairly new titles. what i've bought so far: ath. xp2700+, 1gb (2x512) ddr400, radeon 9600pro 256mb agp8x, and a board which is the only part i have not recieved yet.

yesterday I put my cpu, video, and ram on my dads board just to check things out. everything worked fine. installed the video drivers, etc. installed a couple games, farcry being one, and tested a few things. all was good. well my dad wanted his pc back . so i took all my parts out and put his back in, (keep in mind i use a wrist grounder or whatever you wanna call it). later on that night I redid the same thing again. i put my parts in, turned it on, did a few things here and there and the thing freezes on me. i had done everything exactly as before. i restart and this time the windows log in screen doesnt show up but just shows a black screen with a mouse pointer. after a couple more attempts i finally get into windows. i do a few things here and there, try to play a game again and it continues to freeze. now it works for around 5-10 minutes and freezes.

also the fsb is 333 which the mobo supports.

the only thing that concerns me is the board specs say it supports ddr ram up to 2700... but i'm using ddr 3200... it worked great the first time... Read more

I have 2 hdds. One hdd with win xp sp3 and everything works great. Second win7, it worked fine for 1-2 years now. I formated and reinstalled win 7, and problem begin. Just started to restart every single time when I boot win7. Sometimes it's on loading, sometimes just in installing of something, randomly I guess. I performed a series of clean installation of win7, 32 and 64 bit, still problem is there. Disabled 1 hdd, still nothing. I tried everything and read everything, done every possible thing with hardware, still nothing.I went in event viewer, and normally this one:

Event ID: 41

The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly.

Clean install and it restart just at Loading windows, so no drivers and nothing installed yet. This problem just occur suddenly, without any changes or whatsoever on my pc. Just re installing the windows. And once again win xp works normal.
I already did memtest, update bios, enable speedstep, replaced RAM, tens of clean installations and same thing..

You can run diagnostics on the hard drive by downloading Seatools and making a bootable disc. Do the short and long test.

If either test fails, the drive needs to be replaced.

System Configuration
P3 866Mhz,
Intel 810e (or 815) Chipset
40GB Hard Disk
1 Samsung CDROM drive - 52X
1 combo drive(cd writer + DVD)

Till recently I was running Windows 98 SE plus Windows XP Professional.
Recently I needed to install Linux on my system so I removed all partions from my 40GB hard disk and created new partitions for windows leaving around 6GB unformatted for Linux.
After formatting the windows partitions, I installed XP Prof. from the bootable cd.
Next I installed Mandrake Linux 9 on the system.
Things worked fine for a day or so after which Windows started hanging and restarting unexpectedly and with increasing frequency.
Amazingly, this restarting problem occurred in Linux too..
Doubting the installation, I repartitioned, reformatted, reinstalled XP from various installation cds but to no avail. The restarting problem still exists.
Now I have installed Windows 98 SE where there is NO problem of restarting.
Again, if I try to install XP as an upgrade to 98, either the setup itself hangs/restarts or if I am able to complete the setup ,XP continues to restart and hang randomly..

I think I have checked the RAM to be in place and not loose.
Besides, the CPU fan has been unmounted and cleant of all dust..
But this has not helped the situation.

Incidentally, I discovered, that the grounding of the PC plug point was not working properly and I was getting current on various parts of the CPU cabinet.
Though Ive got this fixed now, could this be rel... Read more

Any chance of substituting another power supply?

It's possible Win98 is starting ok, just due to putting less of a load on the PSU -- although I would expect that to be true of linux as well...

You might have had some damage there due to the bad grounding or excess current drawn.

And you certainly could have damaged motherboard components as well -- have a look for swollen, charred or leaking capacitors for one ....

I really think this may belong in the Hardware forum, as I probably won't have much else to say. If you want me to move it, just say so.

Hi guys, I connect to my router using a Netgear WG111v3 USB adapter with WPA security. It works fine for about 5-10 minutes then websites won't load anymore. I am using Vista so I can't use my onboard network card because Vista doesn't support WPA
I can ping websites still which makes me wonder where the problem lies. For example I can go on google fine, then later I can't connect again but I can still ping it. That goes for all other websites even if I haven't gone on them that boot. Anyone got any ideas what is going wrong? Because it makes no logical sense for this to be happening. Thanks.

So I am here asking for some very simple , easy for me to follow ways to solve this..if it's too deep--I;ll drown. Thanks for any help.

Hi, i was given a hp pavilion dv6000 a while back now, and i've recently come across overheating problems while burning dvd's.
I've installed flash bios and used the hoover on the vents (which was recommened by hp support) but i'm still having problems.
I'm just wondering if there's anything i should try, maybe it's worth taking the heat sink out to give it a clean..?
I ran 'hardware sensors monitor' today and the cpu cores got up to 77*c (while the cpu's working at 100%) before i stopped it . I also just noticed that the bottom rubbers that are near the cpu fan and hdd are missing, seems like the heats melted the glue and they've fallen off.

Any help or advice would be appriciated!

Thanks, Dave.

Hi all. I recently bought this HP Pavilion 17 refurbished by the Geek Squad at best buy. the laptop is nice except for the processor. its a AMD A8-4500M, and it either is overheating, or the fan is just overkill. all i have to do s open chrome, and the fan gets audibly annoying. im not one to get annoyed by fans since my desktop is always on, but the laptop is LOUDER than all the fans on my desktop. CPUID HW Moniter says the CPU is running at 57 degress Celsius! thats not even a hot temp for this laptop. can someone help? free to give more info if needed.

My pavilion notebook starts up with an error message that it was shutdown due to overheating, but should start normally. Then it boots normally but just keeps going back and shutting off after just a few minutes. I've tried running diagnostics but it shuts off in the middle of the process.

A:Pavilion NB overheating message at startup

Can you hear the fan running? It could have failed and will need to be replaced. It could also just be clogged with dust or other debris. Pick up a can of compressed air and use it to blow out all of the vents, ports and other openings in case to see if that makes any difference.

Hi, I recently purchased the HP Pavilion with GTX 1050 video card [Model: 15-BC220NR] and loaded some games to run and test it. I am running the game on max settings, which the card is more than capable of handling. Also downloaded Piriform's Speccy to monitor the heat in the laptop because I suspected the thermal dissipation design might be amiss.  My average temps for Idling were around 35-55C for both the CPU and Motherboard. This goes up to ~65-80C on peak performance.  The motherboard usually is always at a higher temp than the CPU (which I find odd) and makes me wonder if this would be indicative of possible motherboard overheat failure in the future. By higher I mean ~10C higher than the CPU. Conditions:Location: My Game Room Temps ~72FSurface: TableTime to Heat: ~1-2mins from Game Start

I have an annoying issue with my internet connection. From time to time i can't connect to Steam, Battle.net or download from torrents (I'm mentioning torrents becuase there might be a connection). I share the internet with 10 other people all of them connected mostly via wi-fi. Is is possible that the connection is too low to connect to the already mentioned above servers? There is nothing wrong with my pc or internet settings because it works fine for a week and then all of a sudden not. Once we tried to hard reset the main router and after that it worked just fine.
Realy don't know what might be the reason and I would love to finally find out what's causing it.
The router is http://www.planet.com.tw/en/product/...t.php?id=34631
The modem is provided by austrian telecom company and is this one Pirelli PRG AV4202N

Ok, after updating XFire and getting a typical "Memory can't be read" error, my internet on my XP Machine stops working. So far, i've tried a virus scan (with weeks-old definitions) and Ad-Aware (again, weeks-old definitions), and a uninstall/reinstall of my NIC (Intel Pro/1000 CT) and it does not want to detect the connection at all.

In addition, my computer in general has just gotten "slow" considering its not breaking a sweat, and its a P4 2.80 GHz. It takes a few seconds just to start a program which would take a split second. I'm assuming this is tied in with the internet problem, or this is the cause.

I would really appreciate the help, you all seem like nice people.

Further specs:

Intel P4 2.80 GHz HT
ATI Radeon 9800 XT
Soundblaster Audigy 2 ZS
Intel Pro/1000 CT NIC
2 80GB Hard drives
Toshiba PCX1100 Cable Modem
Comcast cable internet

Please give me a hand, I would appreciate it.

I'm running Windows XP, Service Pack 3, 2002 version, Internet Explorer 8. Whenever I try and run Internet Explorer, it says that it can't display the page, for whatever reason, suggesting I diagnose connection problems. I've uninstalled all the toolbars I can find, but that doesn't help a bit. Yet I can properly browse the internet perfectly fine with Firefox 3.5.

It's worth noting two things: I recently had a virus infect the computer, posing as antispyware, which I had to wrestle with for an entire morning before Spybot S&D got rid of it. The second is that the MSHTML.DLL (when i use the command regsvr32 mshtml.dll in the Run window) "loads, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found. This file can not be registered."

Is there anything I can do about this? Any more information you might need?

Have done multiple speed tests and the same bad results. I have tested my laptop on the ethernet connection and seems to work fine.
