Aero Peak Issue - Office 2007

Q: Aero Peak Issue - Office 2007

I believe this is a performance issue. I just moved to Windows 7 from Vista. Occassionally, the Office 2007 applications will not show a preview using Aero Peak. (This happened in Vista but of course without Aero Peek).

The issue seems intermittent and doesn't affect all open Office applications -- just usually Excel or Outlook. Here's a picture of what I mean. (Note: This is an image I found online that I'm pasting here to save me the trouble of a screen shot)

Any ideas, anyone?

Thanks so much!

Preferred Solution: Aero Peak Issue - Office 2007

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I made myself a couple of High Definition skins. That turns the aero off. Now I have trouble with e.g. Power Point and Word. They just do not function with this setup. Can that be because of the aero.

Did anybody ever run Office 2007 in XP where there would be no aero either.

Usually I?m viewing Office programs maximized and simply switch between widows, rather than viewing them next to each other because of my low screen resolution. Yet, today I needed to compare 2 documents next to each other.
Well, there?s the problem.

If any Office App is maximized, I can?t seem to pull it down to move it. Exactly like it used to be with Chrome 1, but even Google managed to fix that in the 2.x builds.
If the windows are snapped to the left or right, there?s no problem unsnapping (do you actually call it that?^^) and dragging them.
Also, every other program works just fine with Aero Snap, when maximized. I?m simply wondering, since I wouldn?t expect such a major glitch with MS Office.
So, am I missing something, or is anybody experiencing the same issue?

I just want to make sure it?s not my own stupidity, before I send feedback to MS.

Thanks in advance!

A:Office 2007 & Aero Snap Problem

I have the same issue. To return the document to its previous state (not maximized), I have to either click the maximize button or double click the title bar. This behavior occurs with Access, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint. However, it works correctly with InfoPath, OneNote, and Publisher.

I have had the Windows 7 32-bit RTM for just over a day and find the Aero Peak too slow to display the thumbnail images.

My computer is quick, with 2.2 Core 2 Duo, 3GB RAM, Nvidia Geforce 8600m 256MB DDR3, so clearly my laptop isn't the problem. It takes about 1 second to display the thumbnails, I think that's way too slow.

1. How can I make it display thumbnails quicker? Which speed do you recommend?

2. Will changing the speed increase memory usage of Windows processes?

With multiple apps open, just like you've done but, you need to hover the mouse over each thumbnail to enable the ture aero peek. A good example is to have several internet explorer tabs open and hover the mouse over each of them.

I installed office 2007 ultimate alongside office 2003 professional. Microsoft outlook and publisher was removed from my office 2003 prior to office 2007 installation. I also opted not to install microsoft outlook 2007.

It seems that each time I load word 2007 or 2003 after previously opening the other version (ie. load 2003 followed by 2007 OR load 2007 followed by 2003), a window would opened up indicating that either the configuration or installation process is taking place, hence delaying the startup. However, once the program has started, it would run without problem. I do not intend to unistall my 2003. There was no problem loading excel 2003/2007, powerpoint 2003/2007 and access 2003/2007.

I am running on Windows XP SP2 that is regularly updated. Thank you

ok ive narrowed it down a bit, it does not seem to be an activation issue... it seems to be a .NET Framework SP1 issue. Update Diagnostic — Unable to access a required file

The Update Diagnostic was unable to run because it requires a file that you have chosen not to download. To give Microsoft Office permission to download this file, do one of the following in one of these 2007 Office release programs:

Access, Excel, PowerPoint, or Word

Click the Office Button, and then click Access Options, Excel Options, PowerPoint Options, or Word Options.
Click Trust Center, click Trust Center Settings, and then click Privacy Options.
Select the Download a file periodically that helps determine system problems check box.
Wait about a week to allow the file to be downloaded, and then run Microsoft Office Diagnostics again.

A:Office 2007 Startup Issue

Try Start --> Run --> type "services.msc" without quotes and click [OK]

Scroll down to Windows Installer Service , Stop the service if its running. Check if its on Automatic or manual. Ifs on Auto , switch it over to manual. Try opening Outlook now.

If its not Switched on , Start --> Run --> type "msiexec.exe /unregister" without quotes and click [OK].

Wait for about a minute. then Start --> Run --> type "msiexec.exe /regserver" without quotes and click [OK].

If this doesn't work , then its probably not fixable for now. Last I heard Microsoft was working on this issue to provide a patch.

Hi guys,

I've recently bought a new computer, and it's an issue I've had with another Windows 7 desktop that I purchased before. Unfortunately, when I fixed it originally, I don't exactly remember how because it was after hours of frustrating trial and error.
Anyways, the issue is that while all volume levels are set for peak output, the green/grey volume bar is only going up about halfway. I have been told to check all settings, check my speakers and reinstall my audio driver; however, none of them have fixed the problem. I have plugged my speakers directly into my iPod and they work fine, and I've tried different music-playing software, and the same issue persists.

If anybody has any ideas on how to fix this problem, it was be appreciated.

I've got a Dell laptop running Windows Vista Home Premium. I recently purchased and downloaded a copy of Office 2007 Ultimate from Microsoft. When I try to install it, I get the following error:

I have tried a number of things, including the Windows Installer CleanUp Utility. When I run the WICU, it doesn't show that Office 2007 has been installed, so I can't uninstall it. I’m having a problem with my Compact Presario SR 1000, Product number PU166AV #ABA. I am using Windows XP professional with SP3 and Microsoft Office plus 2007. The problem started after running a computer system maintenance and optimizer utility program by Acelogix.
Following optimizing my outlook 2007 failed to open. When Starting Outlook 2007 I am getting this error message: “An extension failed to initialize. Cannot open file extend.dat. The file
may not exist, you may not have permission to open it ………”
The Microsoft website suggested to find the extend.dat file, rename the file extend.old and start outlook. This did not work, and they also suggested deleting the file which also fail to solve the problem.
I then to my Microsoft office CD and ran the repair utility which did not work. The next thing I did was to delete and re-install office. Still no luck but the error message has changed to
“An extension failed to initialize. Out of memory or system resources. Close some windows or programs and try again.” Not having other programs or windows open I cancel the error message and windows continues to try to open but now I get an the following error message “ Can not start Microsoft Office, Can not open the outlook window.”

Well, I think you have learned why most of us here do NOT recommend the use use of these "System maintenance and optimizer" programs.

I would back up ALL of your data, email, music, videos and etc to a external device. Now plan on rebuilding your machine.

But before you do the rebuild, look into this system maintenance and optimizer, and see if there is a "Recover", "Restore" entry so you may be able to "Undo" what was done. If not, these programs do way to may changes, we will never know what all was done and may never be able to recover your programs into working order.

Dear friends,

I have just reinstalled the entire system on a nearly new computer (I was using it on vista and switched to XP). for some reason, I can't get the microphone to work (and it was working fine on vista before I reinstalled XP). The skype test call produces no result, and the windows hardware test is also fruitless. This happens with a microphone plugged in or not (in the RED socket ).

Here's what I've already done:
- I've tested the microphone in another computer, so I know that part is ok.
- I've tried driver update and windows says I have the latest version, but driveragent says otherwise (it points to a version released on May 7 2008, but doesn't give me any other information unless I pay), and the same appears to be true on download.com and realtek.com.tw.
- I've tried "troubleshooting" and that just leads me to contact my manufacturer to see if they have a newer driver version
- I've searched microsoft support but only find solutions such as this one that are inconsistent with my situation (they refer to "office XP" and not "office 2007") and direct me to places and procedures that cannot be found on my computer -- nor can similar ones.
- I've downloaded two different possible updates (version R2.15 from Download.com here) and version R2.28 from Realtek here, but I'm not sure if they're the ones I need and am afraid to test them. Also, I'm not sure if it is a driver update issue, but I suspect so -- t... Read more

Hi! So a friend of mine has been having an issue with Microsoft Office Outlook 2007. It all started this week, she turned on her computer and Outlook Office 2007 windows started to pop up non-stop. She tried restarting it but as soon as her computer was on the windows started popping up again. She contacted a repairman to help her and the first night everything was fine, I don't remember her complaining about it but the next night it started again; only 2 windows popped up. But the next morning everything started again, windows started to pop up, this time every 10 seconds but still very very annoying.
She has tried opening the task manager and closing Outlook but obviously that did not really help her. She has also tried deleting Outlook but I can't remember if she said she could not or that deleting it did not help. We have no idea if it's a virus or something else.
My friend has Windows Vista and I have Windows 8 so I can't help her much. She really needs to solve this issue since she can't work without a computer, thank you so much for the help!

Sorry if I repeat what someone else already raised, but did not find something matching my issue.

I recently installed Vista SP1, along with an upgrade of my Norton virus software, and a few issues seem to have reared the heads with it. I managed to work through problem DLLs, EULALauncher issues and Quicktime failures, but my problems with my Microsoft Office Suite remain unresolved.

Basically, I can open Word, Powerpoint or Excel and it seems to be going to work okay, but, within a second or two of opening, I get a ".... stopped working" message and Microsoft is searching for a solution. No solution is reported and the failed package closes.

I have Microsoft Office 2007 Home & Office, but though I installed off the disk I purchased, I only see Microsoft Office Trial in the directory, which I am very nervous to uninstall in case of further repercussions. I did try to reinstall using the aforementioned disk, but when I action the setup utility, it too opens like it is going to work and very soon after closes without doing anything.

Anyone experienced similar issues and if so, any recommendations to get Office back and working please?

A:Vista Home Premium v Office 2007 issue

This leads me to believe that you might have installed the trial version that comes with Vista operating system.
Which is why the best solution is to uninstall this trial version completely from "Uninstall programs" in Control Panel and re-install the version you have on the disk.
I had the same exact problem yesterday as I was installing my 180 day trial version from a disk, and I had installed the 60 day trial version that comes with the operating system before hand. I went ahead and uninstalled the 60 day version, then re-installed the 180 version but when I opened any program it kept saying "Your software and trial have expired".

Hopefully for you, you have the full version that you bought, should definitely work just fine.

Hi all,

Hoping somebody can help me out here. I sent this off to Microsoft about a month ago and have since received three emails in response, one of which said 'try reinstalling' another saying 'are you sure this is the only program in which there is a problem' and a third saying 'please bear with us, we're experiencing high levels of requests right now and need more time.' That was ten days ago.

Yes. Well. I'm hoping somebody out there can help instead

So some background information. I purchased a new laptop about two months ago, on which had Windows Vista (business) automatically installed. I installed myself Office 2007 and updated all the necessary security features and upgrades and so forth. All programs are genuine. This is a decent quality laptop - decent speed (set me back around $2k AU)

It would suddenly freeze on application - the screen would go white and I would lose the ability to click on anything else. alt+ctr+delete had no effect, nor did leaving it alone for a while. Every time this happened I would need to hard restart.

After a system of elimination, I realised the problem occurred when I was opening 2003 Word Documents. (Almost) every time I opened such a document I would freeze up. As a uni student, I'm constantly receiving various documents from other parties which I have been left unable to access.

Office 2007 can read previous versions of Office no matter which program in Office you are using, other versions will need the compatibility pack from Microsoft so they can read 2007 version.

I did use Office 2007 myself recently in a temp job for seven weeks and I don’t remember seeing an option to save a document in an earlier version format, is the computer is still under warranty?

What ram and processor have you got? Some problems with Vista are caused because If buying a new PC or laptop beware of the differences between ‘Vista-Capable’ and ‘Vista Premium Ready’
A PC that is ‘Vista-capable’ can run Windows Vista, but won’t necessarily get everything working. <<<<<<<<

‘VistaPremium-ready’ PC, can get all of the more demanding features such as Aero working correctly.

At the very least Vista needs a truckload of memory and a lot of the cheaper notebooks only come with 512mb of ram unless you have paid for extra, where at least a gig is needed, Ideally 2 gig of memory would be the way to go.

But you did say a reasonable lap top and going by what you wrote it obviously was not like this at the beginning. (Two weeks after you brought it, it started to play up, or is that when you installed Office and its been playing up since you installed it? (I am still thinking will post again if something comes to mind)

Hey Cheesum, check out this page.

Taskbar Aero Peek Not Working - MS Excel 2007 Shows Generic Icon Only - Microsoft Community

the best reply on this page and well explained was this.

Excel is what you call an MDI interface. You can read about it on Wikipedia. Basically, each Excel window is basically the same incarnation that a tab would be in a browser. I can't think of any other MDI programs that come with Windows anymore, but old examples of similar programs include the File Manager or several examples on Wikipedia.

To get it's child windows (documents) to appear as separate application instances on the taskbar, Excel does some tricky stuff that isn't really optimal. It's basically tricking the taskbar into showing them. Because of this, no preview of child documents, unless you launch an entire new instance of Excel (so that the two documents are cousins (or step children?), rather than siblings of the same 'parent' window).

In Office 2010, they fix this issue by using some documented Windows 7 enhancements to how the taskbar works (more info about that on MSDN).

When I try to browse to the proper office program(Excel, for example), there are none of teh Office suite programs displayed, only "Microsoft Office".

I can navigate seperately to the proper progran, Excel, etc., and drag the file into the application, and it opens, and all seems to work OK. I "save as" the proper application file, but it still will not open with double-click on the file name.

I have not seen this particular item in the forums and would appreciate very much some help in fixing this issue.

Chemist has been kind enough to help me in the virus/trojan sub-forum and has given me the all clear.

I have a couple of other issues with my laptop if anyone has the time to help.

I have windows 7 installed on my laptop. (Let me know if more details and which are needed, if any)

1. I think Aero has stopped working. Saw some error message which went away pretty quick but now my background is set to fill colour and won't let me change it to anything else. Aero itself must be working as if I click Alt + Tab, I can still skip through the programs in use by me (which I believe is an aero function?)

2. When I start up my computer or restart, I see the following message:

Catalyst Control Centre
Host application has stopped working
Microsoft is checking for a solution to this problem.

It stays for about 5-10 secs and then disappears. I haven't noticed anything else stop functioning (and admittedly this error has been showing for some time but I haven't been able to find any solutions by browsing the web) but if there is a fix/error, would be great!

Good Evening Everyone,

I have a few questions concerning the Installation of 2010 Office. I know that I have to uninstall Office 2007. I have no clue on how to save or where to save my documents from Office 2007. The documents consist of Word, Excel, Powerpoint and a few various folders. Should I from the Start Menue click on Documents select all and copy. Where should I place this copy? Can It be left on my hard drive? After I install Office 2010 can I then copy the "Document File" and place in Documents. Will all the files end up in the proper place for their programs, Word files go to Word, Excel goes to Excel so on and so forth. Thank you so much for all your help and cooperation. It is greatly appreciated. I hope I described my situation correctly. I look forward to hearing from you.

A:2010 Office Professional Plus to Replace 2007 Office Small Business

But you don't have to uninstall Office 2007 to upgrade to 2010. That's the general rule as you can generally upgrade from lower SKUs to higher SKUs (Small Business to Pro Plus). As far as saving your documents, you can really save them wherever you like on your hard drive or on any CD or flash drive if you wish to do so. As far as file types, after 2010 is installed, they should all register properly for their programs so that Word documents open in Word, Excel Documents in Excel, etc.

Though if you have all of you documents already saved within "Documents" or "My Documents" or some other folder you've set aside and you want to uninstall 2007 before upgrading to 2010, the documents themselves will be retained when you uninstall, you just won't be able to really do much with them until you install 2010.

Good Day,

I've often used the Files and Transfer Wizard to move files in the Windows XP environment, including those for people moving from Office 2003 to 2007, however, I've just been asked to move a person from a computer that would result in them moving backwards from Office 2007 to Office 2003; is this possible? What concerns should be considered? Obviously if they have a number of documents saved in the 2007 it could be problematic, though could the compatibility pack offered by Microsoft offset that concern? Thoughts? Thanks.

Reinstalled all Sony Pre-Loaded software,
which did NOT include any Prior version of MS Office. (Other than a Trial
Version of Office 2003 which I never used or installed. It's still in my
computer) Have no idea what version it is. Simply doesn't say because it's never been installed. It's sitting in the same start menu as all of the other MS Office 2007 Programs.
In another message forum I was told to delete it. However, Office 2007 Pro worked fine for 2 days with the Trial program still sitting in the Start folder.

I managed to install MS Office Professional 2007 and it's worked
for 2 days without a hitch. Today, I get the error message when I try to use
Outlook "Cannot start MS Office Outlook. Cannot initialize MS Office Shared
Utilities. Restart your computer Or reinstall MS Office Outlook." No Luck!!
Also, when I try to start up MS Word, the message says "Not enought memory
to load Word." (I have 2 Gig of Ram and a 320 Gig hard Drive???)

When I insert the Office Pro 2007 disk to Reinstall, the message is: "The
path you have chosen does not point at a qualifying upgradable product.
Click Try again or Cancel to quit setup."

I also don't have ANY previous versions of any Office Suite program to use.
I had Office 2003 Pro installed but that was deleted when I purchased Office 2007 Pro. I do have the disks for Office
2007 Pro.

A charity is considering upgrading its workstations to Office 2013 from Office 2007.
They have lots of files in the .docx, .xlsx, .xlsm, and .xltm formats that they would need to access on a daily basis.

- Would the upgrade cause compatability problems with working with files created under these above formats?

A:Considering upgrade to Office 2013 - potential problems with Office 2007 files?

To my knowledge, they should not have any issues.

We have an upgrade on our computer units here in the company, my problem is when users save their 2007 excel files an error pops up, Errors were detected while saving "File Name". Microsoft maybe able to save the file by removing or repairing some features. To make the repairs in new file, click Continue. To cancel saving the file, click Cancel.

By the way, the files were save on the file server and users access them through single roaming profile that we created with full access on their folders.
i am hoping i could find an answer.

thank you

I recently purchased a HP 530 laptop for our soccer club that came pre installed with Vista. During use of outlook, Excel etc it came up with a message asking for activation key & that we had 20 uses left to enter it (I presumed this was a trial version & activation code to be purchased). After 5-10 uses I decided to install Office 97 which I still had lying around from an old PC. This installed OK but the message was still appearing.

I then uninstalled Office 97 via add/remove programs & then did likewise for anything that mentioned office 2007 (I didn't do the actual uninstalling but am advised there were 4-6 office 2007 variants uninstalled). I then went to load office 97 back in but no go. It goes through the usual install process, enter key, select location to load (prog files/microsoft office) & then select type of install required (typical) & then the features (have selected all & just the basic office install).

Then it goes to the actual install process but just sits there with the bluey/green coloured screen with Microsoft Office 97 written at the top but goes no further.

I have checked add remove programs again & no mentions of office are listed.

I have followed the following fix I was advised about -

By default, Office is installed to C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office. Using My Computer or Windows Explorer, go to that folder. Delete the E... Read more

A:Hp Laptop, Vista, Unable To Load Office 97 After Removing Office 2007 Trial Version.

Microsoft doesn't certify Office 97 to work with Vista: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/933305That being said, lot's of people on the web have gotten it to work with varying degrees of success.Ensure that you install the application in compatibility mode - both as "Run as Windows 98" and "Run as Administrator"Don't install Service Pack 2 - it has problems. But, from what I've read, it'll let you gracefully exit the SP2 setup if you started it.

Hello - I own multi-user version of Microsoft Office 2007 Pro and in May 2012 purchased a new ASUS A54C-TS91 laptop with Windows 7 Home Premium and Office 2010 Starter Edition. I need Powerpoint and Outlook in addition to Excel and WORD. I tried to install the entire app. assuming certain "limited" components of 2010 would be overwritten with the "better"/more robust 2007 - however, while it appears Office 2007 Pro loaded properly and is shown in Control Panel with proper date as installed, there is no file size listed...... I have read several similar posts but wanted to provide specific details for my situation. Anyone have a similar issue - what is best solution? (i am a newbie to the group, so hope I didn't make a faux pas in relating my story). Any guidance is welcomed and appreciated. Minky
