TouchSmart Touchscreen Suddenly Undetected

Q: TouchSmart Touchscreen Suddenly Undetected

About a year ago the touchscreen on my TouchSmart All-in-One just stopped working. I have been trying to figure out what has caused this and how to fix it, but none of the go-to troubleshooting fixes have worked. My computer starts up and behaves as if it does not have a touchscreen. All the drivers (which I have rolled back and updated multiple times) are fully operational and windows cannot find anything wrong with any devices or drivers. My entire computer for the past year has behaved as it would if it didn't have a touchsceen at all, but I know I have a touchscreen. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I don't know when the touchscreen would normally be detected when booting up, but it seems like this is where the problem is. I'm sorry I can't provide any more information, but that's all I got! It really is the weirdest thing!

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

Hey guys, I have had my TouchSmart for about 2 years, and it's been near a year that my touch input hasn't been working, but since I wasn't really using it, I never followed up until last week. But I was pretty upset when I realized I had a 2 year warranty which was just expired on 02/02/14. I have tried all be basic things that has been suggested on this site or any other sites, such as running Windows update (and yes I installed the optional updates as well). I have also checked and updated all the drivers, and at this point is running out of options. I have a bit of IT experience so I think I know what I'm doing but I'm running out of ideas.      Any suggesstions?  HP TouchSmart 610-1100z CTO Desktop PCWindows 7 Home Premuim - Service Pack 1Product no: QB912AVEverything in Device Manager seems normal (no warning signs) Thank you for help in advance

I've had my HP laptop for over a year and half now. It came with a built-in webcam that functioned properly up until very recently. Whatever I used it for, Skype, Movie Maker, everything was always pre-installed and fully working.

Yesterday, however, when I tried to use it on Skype, it could no longer detect any webcam. I checked on every other software I used to use it with, and it's like it doesn't exist at all anymore. I tried to re-download the driver, but all I could find were meant for external webcams. I looked over a few forums, but every similar issue was solved by troubleshooting the webcam from the devices manager, whereas my webcam doesn't even show up in the devices manager anymore. Hello, A few weeks ago I purchased a HP ENVY Recline TouchSmart 23-k112eb computer. A very nice piece of hardware with the latest version of Windows installed.Product Number: F6L57EA#UUG After 2 day I noticed that my cursor (mouse) keeps having a live of its own. Upon startup of the computer you can see that the touch gestures are simulated on top of the screen. This keeps going on during the entire time I am using it. Working with the mouse is practically impossible, because it keeps jumping to the upper right corner. Same for the gestures with your finger, you just can?t swipe fast enough. Applications and browser windows are being closed without me asking it. I verified the HP Support Assistant and the Windows Updates. The system indicates that all features are up-to-date. Does anyone have the same problem and does anyone have a solution ?It becomes really frustrating for the moment. Thanks in advance,George

Hello GeorgeVM1984, Welcome to the HP Forums, I hope you enjoy your experience! To help you get the most out of the HP Forums I would like to direct your attention to the HP Forums Guide First Time Here? Learn How to Post and More.I understand you are experiencing what is referred to as Ghost Touches on your HP ENVY Recline TouchSmart 23-k112eb Desktop PC. I would recommend that you boot into Safe Mode by following the steps in the HP Support document: Windows 8 Safe Mode, which should allow you to use your mouse once again. Once in Safe Mode I would recommend that you then follow the steps set out in the HP Support document: Using Microsoft System Restore (Windows 8), which will walk you through the process of restoring your computer back to a point in time where your mouse and touchscreen worked correctly. This will not affect any personal files on your computer only applications installed or settings changed between the date you do the restore and the date you choose to restore back to. If your issue is a software issue this should fix it for you. Please feel free to re-post if you require additional assistance. Thank you for posting on the HP Forums. Have a great day!

AS we have properly understood your issue we are going to provide you some steps  please follow these steps:  Do a system search for troubleshooting and select the relevant result. In the new window, click View all from the left-hand menu. From the list that appears, click Hardware and Devices. Click Next and run the wizard through. The tool will automatically detect issues and then repair them. However, it?s by no means comprehensive and you may need to carry on reading. When your touchscreen is slow to respond or records your touch gestures inaccurately, a re-calibration might be all it takes to bring it up to speed. Do a system search for calibrate and select Calibrate the screen for pen or touch. A new window will open containing tablet PC settings. On the Display tab, use the Setup? and the Calibrate? buttons in turn to see if this resolves the issue. Press CTRL + X and select Device Manager. Left click the arrow next to Human Interface Devices to open the dropdown. Right click the listing for HID-compliant touch screen and select Disable. You?ll be asked to confirm this, so click Yes You now need right click the listing again, but this time select Enable.  Following on from the instructions above, with Device Manager still open, right click the HID-compliant touch screen and select Update Driver Software You?ll want to Search automatically for updated driver software.  Once do... Hey all. I'm a newbie so please don't pounce on me for repeating a topic. I have read through similar ones here and on other sites and have gained no help or direction. Well, here goes.

My problem is with a relatively old drive; a 20gb seagate. i removed it when cleaning the case and when i reconnected it, it could not be detected. The jumpers are correctly positioned and all cables are secure. In my cleaning I simply ran a hair dryer through the board and wiped the housings for the drive. I tested the system with a seagate 120gb and that is detected with no problems. the 20gb isn't detected by the bios or as a slave to the 120gb. There are no tell tale signs of a mechanical fault - no strange sounds or anything else out of the ordinary. my issue isn't so much replacing the drive(it is time 4 a system upgrade after all) as it is recovery of the past 3 weeks of work that has not been backed up! it would take me 3 weeks to get through it again. lol!

please help guys!!

i forgot to add, the drive is powering up normally. also, the system seems to take a long time to start up, almost as if it were trying to detect the drive.. but alas... still nothing..

A:Hard drive suddenly undetected by bios

You first need to verify whether or not Windows detects anything (sometimes it sees something on the usb port but doesn't know what it is)

You need look in Device Manager to see if it lists any Unknown Devices. Be sure to expand the USB info in Device Manager when looking.

Don't know if you're running XP or other (what are you running?) but here's a link about Unknown Devices under XP

My name's Joe; tonight my laptop stopped working. Attempts to boot-up could be described as largely unsuccessful. Currently attempting a Start-Up repair; it's been running for about 1.5 hours now. In this post I describe the situation and hope that some altruistic person out there can/will help.

Personal Intro
Just a random 22 year old Canadian Grad student. I'm not particularly adept with computers. When I was growing up, my older brother was always the computer wiz in the house.

Anyways, this is my first post here so I hope I'm posting this in the right subforum.

Introduction to the Problem

I bought this laptop (ASUS U45J) about 1.5 years ago.

Everything has always been fine.

Earlier this evening, however, I dozed off for a few hours on what was supposed to be a 1-hour nap. When I woke up, I found my laptop screen was black; nothing was responsive.

I figured, "okay, no big deal. I guess it just crashed. Doesn't happen often, but whatever. Maybe it has something to do with the massive heat wave lately; and maybe it has something to do with me installing new software and drivers (Logitech Webcam) lately."

First noticing something was amiss...

I attempted to restart my laptop.

It said something about Windows not shutting down properly.

Being impatient, I told the computer to boot up as per usual (i.e., not in safe mode).

No such luck. After a loading screen (not the colourful blue one, but rather a simple monochromatic black and white load... Read more

Terribly sorry to bump; it's just that this thread, despite being more thoroughly written than maybe half the other posts, has sunk into obscurity after less than 12 hours and I do find this issue rather distressing. Help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

My touchscreen suddenly stopped functioning.  No known update recently - have been running Windows 10 for months now with no problem.  When I went into my device manager, I noticed that the "HID-compliant touchscreen" under the Human Interface Devices dropdown is hidden. When I find it by showing hidden devices, there are no drivers there for it (the box just says that "no driver files are required or have been loaded for this device"), so something must have removed it. Any idea how to get those drivers back so that my touchscreen will function again?  It's like my PC doesn't recognize that my display should be touchscreen capable.  I don't even have a calibrate

Hey, I have a Inspiron 15 3521 running windows 8.1 and touch screen just stopped working.  I tried updating drivers and downgrading drivers but no luck.  Tried Windows 10 but no change.  Tried adjusting power mgmt. settings and no change.  It seems like it is not detecting the touch screen and HID is hidden so no option it enable or disable.  Diagnostic does not see the device so does not attempt to run. There are tons of posts on this issue but I can't find any resolution.  Can anyone provide a fix?  A touch screen generally shouldn't just stop working and with all the issues I am thinking it is some sort of Dell or hardware issue?

SOme info about the laptop. Product Name: Sleekbook HP Pavilion 14-f004lOperating System: Microsoft Windows 8 (64-bit) I've had this problem a couple times already. So I've had this happen countless times. The touchscreen stops working. The laptop is in perfect conditions. The screen, not even a scratch. I format the laptop, it still doesn' work. So, I've always fixed it by installing the AUO Touchscreen Firmware/ sp63116.exe from:http://support.hp.com/mx-es/drivers/selfservice/hp-pavilion-14-f000-sleekbook/5375393/model/5403360#... My problem atm is that this time, that process isn't working. The installer opens, installs the thing, then the program opens and immediately closes. This prompts windows to ask me if the driver installed correctly or that if it should attempt to install under a compatibility mode. No matter which I choose, it still does the same thing. It won't stay open for more than 1 second.  I've restored my laptop to factory presets a couple times already and the touchscreen isn't working yet because the driver/program/wizard thingy refuses to stay open after it is done installing. Can anybody help me? Perhaps share a different version of the installer? Thank you.

I recently acquired a HP Pavilion all in one pc but there seem to be problems with the touchscreen. It registered touches very intermittently, and not always where I touched. First thing I tried was to calibrate it. But it just wouldn't register certain touches in some of the places it wanted me to press. Nest i Reset everything to factory settings, still not working same probs. Installed all the latest drivers and updates, no joy. But one morning I did turn it on and it worked perfectly. For half a day and then it was up to its old tricks.
Took it to a computer shop and they said it needed a new touchscreen card. Basically I want to know, do these touchscreen sort of devices have a piece of hardware, the card, specifically for touchscreen. or is he lying to me and its some software problem he could fix in ten minutes. He's quoting around 40for the card. And another 20-30 for the labour. Any help would be much appreciated. If there is a card just for the touchscreen then I could believe him. But ive never heard of a card just for that. Any help would be so much appreciated. Had this around 3 weeks for my daughter to use the touchscreen as shes too young for mouse and keyboard, but she'd like a number of touchscreen games as she's very adept at using touchscreen on her tablet. Thanks and sorry for the long post.

I have also just encountered this problem. After installing 2 updates of sound device drivers from Windows update website and rebooting, neither my CD-ROM nor my CD-Rewriter drives were recognised, (running Windows 98 SE). I rebooted a couple of times for luck but still no drives detected.

I too have the exclamation marks on the same 2 devices as you (can't remember the names). Is this something to do with the updates I installed and what should I do about this? Should I unistall both drives and reinstall? How can I do this when it asks me to put in the Windows CD if no CD drive is there?

A simple solution please, I am nearing my tether's end.

A:CD-ROM and CD-R undetected...

If your problem is EXACTLY like mine, then....

1 - in the windows device manager, the two drivers with exclamation points will be under hard disk controllers, and.

2 - there will not even BE a CD-ROM category - as there was none detected at startup.
If that's exactly what it looks like, I followed the advice above, entered setup, went to each of the cd-rom drives and enabled them - for some unknown reason both were disabled. Then they both returned on the next reboot.

If your problem is NOT exactly like mine, I can't really give advice, I'm not qualified, but one of these guys can help I'm sure.

Recently added another hard drive

Has been working fine for 3 weeks, so I doubt it has anything to do with the problem - but added for completeness - in case I've jarred some wire you know about , anyway.....

My computer won't recognize the CD-Rom or CD-R through Windows Explorer or Device Manager.

I followed all the troubleshooting trees from HP

- went to setup and restored and saved defaults.
- uninstalled and let Windows find and install the new hardware, and it did find the "Intel Bus Master Controller", which automatically installs the two drives - then they are nested under that master controller in device manager with the yellow exclamation point denoting a problem.

My first thought was that I somehow hit wiring and disconnected something during install on the hard drive - but I don't think thats the case (tell me if I'm wrong) since I've found that I CAN use a startup boot disk and it installs the two ROM drives and I can read the contents of either drive through DOS. So I think that means its working.

But maybe loading from A Drive is just loading through a different route than windows?

I noticed my pc connecting to continuously yesterday. I traced the IP to Southwest Cyberport ISP, and was able to ftp into several directories. The only one with info other than style sheets was /smedia/lb/productivitybooster, which had the following list:

I was unable to find any info on this issue, and couldn't find where my pc was getting the instruction to connect. The only thing I was able to do was to block the site in my router. Have any of you seen this, or heard of it? Can you help me figure out what is going on here? Thank you in advance for any direction you can give me. My CA antispyware did not detect, and Hijack This doesn't show anything unusual.

I'm having a lot of trouble with....something. I'll give as much detail as I can.I'm running Windows 7 x64I am using Windows Firewall with Microsoft Security Essentials and ran TrendMicro Housecall yesterdayI have both Firefox and Internet ExplorerLast scan that came up clean: 4 days agoHere are the symptoms:- Strange popup appears in bottom right hand corner of both Internet Explorer and Firefox on random pages when browsing (screenshot). After I posted this, I was looking at the submitted post and the popup appeared again. Now it has an advertisment in it (screenshot).- Microsoft Security Essentials cannot run a full scan. Stops halfway with a warning message saying the service has been stopped. I had a look in the services list and I can't find it to restart it. It has however found the following:Trojan: Win32/Hiloti.gen!D (3 instances, once every day for the last 3 days).TrojanDownloader: Win32/Troxen!rts (quarantined)Exploit:HTML/IframeRef.gen (quarantined)- GMER scan cannot run. Error message here: (screenshot). Could this possibly be to do with a 64bit incompatibility rather than a symptom?- Ran a full scan with Housecall, which said there was nothing wrong. While in opera computer starts going hay wire. Mouse gets jumpy with an hour glass popping up and is suddenly unresponsive for a few nanoseconds.

NOT NORMAL! Epic fail when gaming!

First symptoms: unresponsive mouse during game. Screen blackouts during game. Dunno if it was dropping frames before or what. I have never seen that before. The screen would just flicker black for a few seconds.

Unusual task manager trigger; It stops doing whatever it is doing when task manager is opened.

I know there is a site, but I do not remember where. I used to download a program and it listed processes to them and they could see things that were wrong.

Wait, I just remembered that the iobit 360 program does that.

BRB; ...

A:I think I have an undetected virus.

iobit 360 finds 6 threats during scan. Hopefully it finds all of them.

It has been so long since I've had a virus I forgot about it while testing AVG.

Hope this is helpful to someone anyways.

Hello everyone. I'm new here and in need of some advice.

I recently ran a suspicious looking file on my computer. I scanned it with avast! first, as I always do with any new files, and it was clean. I ran the file and it did nothing, it was supposed to be installing a trial for a program. I waited about 30 seconds, since some apps take time to show you they're doing something. At that point, I opened up task manager, seen it's process and that it was doing something, and immediately ended it. I did that as I consider that to be suspicious activity.

Nothing seemed to happen and the process ended fine. I had my kitten in my lap and started playing with him when my computer suddenly restarted. To me that's an instant red-flag so I immediately hit F8 and booted in safe mode. I didn't even let it start up normally one time since it restarted itself. (I'm guessing the process re-started itself, or already began a different process)

Then I tried running avast! to do a scan in safe mode, it went a short way and stopped, the process ended. I checked the processes and none were suspicious, all normal. I tried re-running avast! and it wouldn't let me. So instead, I went into my computer, right-clicked C drive and told avast! to scan. It started scanning and only lasted a few seconds. After that, I tried it again and it would no longer let me. Not long later the screen went black but still said safe mode, and I was still able to open task manager a... Read more
