MiniDP output not working on XPS 13 9333

Q: MiniDP output not working on XPS 13 9333

It was working just fine for quite some time but then suddenly it is not functional any more, I cannot get any external monitor to be recognized. Tried with multiple TVs with miniDP-HDMI cable and computer monitor with miniDP-DP cable.
Could it be that the port died, or is it a software error?
PS: using Windows 10.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys,
you're kinda my last resort before I throw this computer out the window.
Dell XPS 9333, Windows 10
Ever since the windows 10 update, my sound card has not function properly. These are the things I've done:

Manually installed Realtek Drivers
Manually 'added legacy device' in Device manager
Rolled system back to Factory (Windows 8.1)
Updated the BIOS (A08)

I had it working literally 15 minutes ago, set my laptop down on my coffee table to go swap my laundry - came back and the little x is now back on my speakers again.During that time the laptop didn't hibernate or sleep, nor was the lid shut. It literally just stopped working on it's own.
This laptop has lived the life of a desktop, it hasn't even been put in a backpack let alone jostled.
I'm about -this- close to saying forget Dell. I thought I was buying a quality product here, one I could do virtualization on however I've been stuck with this issue.

Any help y'all could provide would be greatly appreciated, I'm at my wits end here.

Subject says it. The sound driver for Windows 10, XPS 13 9333 has been buggy since the beginning! I had to reboot several times per week to "reenable sound". Errors are both complete crashes of the sound driver (the speaker symbol turns red and Windows 10 offers to try to fix the problem - well, of course that doesn't do anything...), but now also this:
At random intervals sound just stops. The volume can still be controlled, I can't see an error in the Windows event log (but I'm not sure I looked everywhere), device manager for Realtek High Definition Audio shows the driver as working. I hear a brief 1/10th second loud white noise as sound stops and that's it. I have to reboot.

Hello,I have ThinkPad T480 and want to connect Lenovo L2250p external display (it has only DVI and VGA inputs) The display is currently equiped with miniDisplayPort to DVI cable (I used it with older T450)I borrowed USB-C to MiniDP(female) adapter, and try to connect USB-C Thuderbolt 3 port, but the signal didn't went through. iThe adapter must be working because in office I tried to connect the same way also Projector beamer (equipped with MiniDP>HDMI adapter) and signal went through. I thought the USB-C Thunderbolt 3 port is capable of sending DVI signal, or is there too many conversions/adapters connected? Does anyone know what can be the problem? Thanks a lot.

Surely it's possible to manipulate it somehow? Surely windows can run both audio services, so my Realtek HD audio and AMD GPU audio would run at the same time! :/

It would be ideal as sometimes my lass likes to watch me play the odd game but she prefers to stay in the living room as im based in my passage lol. But i would prefer to still use my pc SPEAKERS * and not just getting audio through the graphics card. I know i can switch it over to what has sound, but i would find it convenient for both. Guess it's a no go :/

A:Is it possible to have both audio working when rigged miniDP to HDTV

Audio is set up that you can only have one "default" playback device - thus either the "Speakers" (sound card) or the HDMI.

I recently received an XPS 12 9250 and a WD15 dock. I have followed the driver installation and troubleshooting steps as outlined in the 2 sticky posts. I have gone back and updated ALL the available drivers that are labeled "urgent" and "recommended". Everything seems to be working EXCEPT external monitors. I have 2 Dell U2414Hb monitors that are DP daisy-chained. I am using a miniDP to DP cable from the dock to the DP input on the first monitor, then a DP to DP cable from the DP output on monitor #1 to DP input on monitor #2.
Currently I have a Dell mouse and keyboard, a 1TB Western Digital external HDD, a charge/sync cable for my mobile phone, Creative Labs speakers, and a CAT5e/RJ45 ethernet cable attached and all appear to be working normally.
I would appreciate some insight.

EDIT: I should note that I have a Microsoft Surface Pro 3 that was working using the same monitor setup.

Have you tried plugging in Headphones and then playing a video?  I'm currently seeing issues where the audio drops and then video is interrupted.  When i unplug the headphones, sound works fine from onboard speaker.

I have an XPS 13 9333 running Windows 10 64 bit.
With no specific reason (nothing new being installed), I too am now getting the "no audio output device detected".  I have:
1) Updated BIOS to most recent copy
2) Removed and reinstalled RealTek driver (both older versions and the current version...none of them have worked)
3) I have run the audio test in the diagnostics section and it worked fine.
4) I tried to restore to a restore point and it didn't help
I have seen multiple posts regarding this issue and tried the above actions based on what some people seem to work, but none of them have worked.  A $1,300 machine OEM software and audio doesn't work.  DELL SUPPORT... Please stand by your machine and assist me here (or anyone else).

I've tried everything to get sleep working on my XPS 13 (9333) running Windows 10 but I just can't get it to work reliably: sometimes it sleeps OK, sometimes the machine hangs when initiating sleep and sometimes it hangs on a wake from sleep. The only way out of the hang is to do a hard power-off by pressing the power button for four seconds.
What I'd like to know: does anyone have sleep working on this machine?

Hi everyone,
So on August 2nd I updated my Dell XPS 13 (9333) to Windows 10 Pro, and despite a few glitches from the OS, everything worked as expected, especifically the 3-finger swipe up to show Task View and down to show the Desktop, as well as (finally) being able to scroll windows out of focus just by hovering over by enabling the option in Settings.
However, yesterday I realized that is no longer the case. The 3-finger swipe brings up Cortana/Search and down opens up the Settings app. Moreover, scrolling w/o focus stopped working too!
I'm running the latest Dell Touchpad driver (v.19.0.15.2) and I have Multi-Finger gestures enabled in the options. Checking the Windows Update history, besides the Windows Defender updates, I see the following: KB3074678, KB3074686, and a Failed Synaptics Update for Dell Touchpad (around the day it stopped working as it should).
Anyone experiencing a similar problem? Suggestions?
Thanks in advance,

Nevermind, I got it to work after uninstalling Dell Touchpad, and then installing the same version from the Dell website. However, the "Scroll inactive windows when I hover over them" setting doesn't work with the touchpad, but it does work with a mouse (generic drivers). Any idea on why is that?

I was hooking my T530 up to my TV just fine with a MiniDP-to-HDMI adapter and a regular HDMI cable up until a few days ago. Then, I was in a situation where I wanted to watch video on the TV, but have the audio go to the headphone jack and not to the TV. Got that working by disabling something in the HDMI settings. (Before that, if I plugged in my headphones, audio came through both the TV AND the headphones.) But now, I can't watch anything on the TV any more. Same cables, same setup, but the Intel HD Graphics Control Panel doesn't recognise the TV, and the TV doesn't think it's getting any signal. I'm guessing I have to re-enable the HDMI somehow, but I can't find anywhere to do that. So now that I have gotten the Windows 10 3-finger grestures to work on my Dell XPS 13 9333 (2014), it looks like one of the most useful features finally introduced in Windows 10 --the ability to scroll windows out of focus without having to click them first-- is not working with my touchpad, even though the option is clearly enabled in the Settings app.
Hower, it does work just right with a wireless Logitech mouse, in the exact same situation where the trackpad fails to work. Even more weird is that I have gotten it to work with the touchpad if the window in focus is one of the Modern/Metro apps, but it is just impossible to get it working with "normal" software.
I am running the latest version of the Synaptics Dell Touchpad driver (v.19.0.15.2), just installed from the Dell's website after uninstalling the previous version.

But few months ago, as offered by Microsoft, I upgraded my Laptop OS from Windows 7 Home edition to Windows 10 home edition.  Since upgrade everything has worked just fine except, I do not receive HDMI output to my television.
I have tried searching for online solutions but not sure what could be the problem? Can someone please guide me in right direction?

This model is with Xeon CPU, Quadro P2000 graphics card and 1080 screen. The model of the monitor is Dell U2713HM.  When I connect my P52 to this dell monitor via a miniDP to Displayport cable, the monitor model is recognized in "Nvidia control panel" and "Display settings" of Windows, but in Display setting it shows "second display is not active". The screen remains black with a floating window: "no signal received".  Attempts so far: - In BIOS, I tried switching the graphics option from "hybrid" to "discrete", and set the start-up delay to 10 seconds. When I restart, the start-up Lenovo logo and the BIOS interface is displayed on the external Dell monitor. However, as the machine enters windows, the external display goes black (and so does the laptop display, until I unplug the cable).  - Also, I tried the miniDP to DP cable on other machines and the same screen. Works fine.  - When the laptop is connected to the same screen via a miniDP to DVI-D connector and a DVI-D cable, the Dell display works, regardless of whether I am in "discrete" or "hybrid status". However, I need to set "customize resolution"  in the Nvidia control panel to "2560x1440 40Hz" manually. (Dell display should work at 2560x1440 @ 60Hz, but it does not). Anyway, it shows that the miniDP port is not broken.   - The monitor works alright when connected to Lenovo D20, a desktop computer that I... Read more

Hi ! I have a W540 20BG-CT01WW Laptop since 2 years. He was originally on Windows 8. In November, I upgrade to Win 10 and have issues with 100% disk usage at startup for st least 5 minutes. Today, I tried for the first time the thunderbolt port with a MiniDP to HDMI dongle. Nothing happens. I tried twi different HDMI cables on two different TVs with the same issue. I update all my drivers from nvidia and intel, BIOS and Intel management. After updating the graphic drivers with the files on Lenovo website specific to my serial number, I was able to copy and extend to the tv. After unplug the dongle and plug it back, I wasnt able to reconnect the TV. I read a couple of forums about this type of problems, I uninstalled all the drivers, set the bios display to advanced, reinstall all the drivers again. When the laptop finished to reboot, i heard the sound when I connect a new device and I was able to use the tv as second monitor. It was working well until I reboot the laptop. Now it's not working at all and even if I uninstall all the drivers again and follow the same steps nothing works. I also install the thunderbolt software Can somebody helps me with this issue ?

I have my HP ProBook 65706 connected from my dvi port through and hdmi adapter to my tv. It has worked great up until yesterday. The laptop had been disconnected for another use for a couple of days but then I reconnected it and the tv now reads no input signal for from the hdmi. The hdmi on the tv works fine as I connected another input source so the issue is in the laptop or in transmission to/through the adapter.

I guess I'm hoping for some guidance in diagnosing the issue. Is there a way to troubleshoot whether it is a laptop hardware/driver issue or the actual port itself? I'm not really wanting to buy another adapter if that isn't the issue.

Thanks in advance.

My laptop crashed when removing the HDMI cable... totally dead... had to pull the battery to get it restarted. Now unfortunately the HDMI output is no longer recognizing the TV unless there is a second VGA monitor connected. Does this sound like a hardware issue?

A:HDMI output not working.

Sure sounds like it.

But first, go to Control Panel > Display > Change Display Settings > and click the Detect button with the HDMI connected to the TV.

I have been operating under the assumption that you should never "hot plug" HDMI connections. Turn off the laptop and TV, connect the cable, then turn them on.

I am trying to play a Blu-Ray disc using PowerDVD 7, and there is no audio output when I set it to "use spdif", which goes to my HDTV. I can set it to use the analog 5.1 speakers I have, but those aren't set up around my TV so they're not as helpful.

When I'm using Windows Media Player or VLC player to play video and DVDs, the sound works fine. When I try to use PowerDVD to play even DVDs, there is no sound output through the HDMI s/pdif connection.

I am using the onboard audio from the ASUS P6T motherboard, which outputs HDMI through my GTX 285 video card. I'm using the current Realtek HD Audio drivers.

When I test the output using windows sound mangement for the SPDIF output, there is no sound for DTS or Dolby Digital. What do I need to make these work?

Using Windows 7

Will my hardware simply not output digital audio, or is my TV not capable of receiving digital audio?

My playback device for my HDMI output is an AMD HDMI Output. I just got a new Bush Smart TV after cracking my old LG. HDMI output sound worked perfectly fine on my old tv and it works fine on my other Samsung TV. However the soud only refuses to work on my new Bush TV.

The picture works fine and I can see everything perfectly on the tv screen, but the sound just wont work and only works on the laptop.

Whenever I test my AMD HDMI Output with this TV, I get the error message saying - This Device is being used by another application. Please close any devices that are playing audio to this device and try again.

I don't get this error message when connected to my other TV(s). Sound and Picture works perfectly fine, yet the sound doesn't work on my new TV.

Does anyone know how I can fix this problem? I tried to update my sound driver, but it's up to date, and I've made sure that it is the correct playback device selected. Nothing seems to work though.

Your laptop might be outputting a higher resolution than the TV can display. You mentioned it was a DLP TV so its probably only 720p, so if you laptop is outputting 1080p it might not work.

Hi,

I have an HP dv6500 laptop with NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS (HDMI output). I just bought a philips 8404 LCD TV.
When I try to connect the laptop to the LCD, nothing happens. I can't get any video displayed on the TV.
I know that both the cable and the TV HDMI port are fine beacuse when connected to the XBOX they work without a problem.
I can see the TV on the NVIDIA control panel, it is recognized as "Philips FTV", but when set to dual display nothing happens, and when set to use the philips tv only, the laptop screen goes black (as it should), but nothing on the TV.

I have the TV for few days now, weird thing is that one time (and one time only) I did manage to see the computer on the TV via the HDMI cable. I didn't do anything special - just clicked Fn F4 and it was there. but it only worked one time and I can't get it to work again (but at least I know the HDMI port on the laptop is also fine). When I connect the cable to the TV I do hear the "windows new item detected" sound on the computer, so there is a connection but no picture at all.

I tried re-installing the NVIDIA drivers but nothing helps.
Any help or suggestion would be appreciated...I waited for an HDTV for a long time and now I finally have it but without the PC link it's rather futile

I have a strange feeling that re-installing windows7 would solve it (as it does for most things ), but I'm trying to avoid this annoying lengthy process...

Cheers,
Idan

Hi everybody,I have an incomprensible problem with my X270. I use an external monitor in 4K with an HDMI cable (my dock don't have displayport). But the 4K output isn't working all the time. When I turn on the computer sometimes I only have 1080p resolution and I can't change it (for 4K, I can for less like 720p). But sometimes, it is working fine. Even if I don't change anything. For exemple, I do an update, restart my computer and after it, without changing anything, I only obtain 1080p. If I restart 3 hours later, I can have 4K. (I am on Windows 10)But, I also have Debian on my computer but I prefer W10 when I use my 4K monitor because Debian isn't perfect with 4K. But on Debian, the computer can offer 4K on the monitor everytimes. There is no problem to detect 4K on Debian. So I don't understand why it is not working with W10.Any of you have the same problem or a solution?

My laptop is about 2 years old and the audio output worked perfectly, I was able to plug in all kinds of speakers or headphones. All of a sudden it is not working anymore. No matter which player I use, it always uses the internal laptop speaker instead of the external speakers. I also checked the drivers of my laptop, it tells me they are all up-to-date and no updates needed. When I go to the sound settings of my laptop I can't even choose the external sound, it is not there anymore. Can you please help me?Thank you!

Ok here is the scenerio.

- Been using a 24" monitor and a 32" Monitor in conjunction for quite some time (couple years) with out a hitch. I think i had a power failure and came home to my 32" monitor not displaying anything (fyi, i had the desktops as duplicated on both screens, Each one are in separate rooms)

The 24" monitor is hooked via the DVI and the monitor is hooked up DVI to HDMI adapter and the HDMI goes to my stereo and then to the 32" TV.

Here is what i've tried.
- Remove and reinstall drivers
- Swap the HDMI cables
- I even tried a different video card (nvidia 550 ti)
- Even re-installed windows!!

On my stereo receiver (Harmon Kardon AVR 700) it flashes HDMI as if it doesnt have a signal going to it, if there was signal to it then it would just be a solid HDMI light.

I've tried resetting my Stereo receiver. No luck. Oh and I also tried all 3 of my HDMI slots available.

The ONLY way i could get it to work, is to plug the computer directly to the TV (using the same dvi to HDMI adapter and port on the video card) I know I can just bypass my receiver, but i dont really want to lol. As i use it as a HTPC A LOT!

Posting here is kinda my last resort as i'm pretty stumped at this. Keep in mind that everything was working fine up untill the power surge.

A:2nd video output stopped working......

sounds like you've narrowed down the trouble to your receiver...possibly something got fried during the power outtage. Are you using any kind of UPS / surge protection? Does the receiver work okay otherwise?

sounds to me like the receiver is the culprit.

I've been using an HDMI cable to connect my pc (win7 home premium 64bit, nvidia GeForce G210 video card) to my Panasonic HDTV for over 2 years. As of not so long ago (can't remember exactly when, it was around May probably) the PC and TV couldn't connect anymore.
At first i thought it was my HDMI cable that died, but I bought a new one and that didn't work either. I've tried all the HDMI inputs on my TV, downloading the latest drivers for my video card and went through all the menu's on my tv looking for settings that might turn off the HDMI functions, but without any luck.

It's driving me crazy because I haven't changed anything!

I hope somebody can help me.

Regards, drw

If you have a Input button on the TV remote use it. See if you have the proper selection. Example: HDMI 1, HDMI 2, VGA, Component 1, ect.

For some reason, when I tried to connect my laptop to my HDTV with the HDMI cable today, it did not work. Normally, as soon as I plug the cable into my laptop, my display immediately switches to the TV, but now my computer is not even detecting an additional display, or the HDMI plug. It was even working fine yesterday, but today, nothing. I have tried uninstalling and re-installing the graphics processor, setting the computer to second screen only, using a different cable, different TV port, all the usual stuff, but for some reason my laptop just will not detect the HDMI cable.

Here's the basic information for my computer:

The computer is an HP Pavilion g6 laptop. Thanks!

Test with a different monitor/TV. That will determine if its a PC or TV issue.

This is typically the result of a faulty port.

I have a Toshiba Satellite A305-S6898 laptop with Windows Vista (64 bit). For two years, I have watched movies on my TV via the HDMI connection. Recently, this stopped working (I had not installed anything new or updated the computer). The HDMI cable is definitely still good. My laptop could not connect with the external display. I tried everything I could think of including making sure the drivers were up to date (they were) and the handy reboot method. Nothing worked until I went into the device manager, right clicked on the graphics card and uninstalled and reinstalled it. Using this method, I got it to connect again for a couple of days, though I had to uninstall and reinstall every time to make it work. This has stopped working now too though. I am at a loss. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello everyone,
I have a bit of a problem here. My AMD HDMI Output Audio Device is not working even though its set on default on playback devices and the computer and monitor sound is on. Was wondering whats wrong here.
My apologies if there were similar threads about this, as I just made an account and didn't get to check them up. Although I did search google and there were few cases with people that were using NVIDIA, since I'm not using it I would like to know how to solve this. I'll keep in touch and add additional info if needed. Thanks in advance.

Welcome to the forum, we will try to help you. Please fill in the "My System Specs".

That statement is a little confusing. How is the Computer and Monitor sound connected?

All of the parts are known to be working and the pc was working before switches.

MotherBoard is a K8V Deluxe
AMD Athlon 3000+
PowerSupply 550W (it previously powered a X19050Pro 256

As of right now, all fans turn on (including the video cards) on boot up, but no output to the monitor. Only the video card, 1 stick of ram (512), 2 case fans and processor are currently plugged in. It does not make any beeping noises.

I believe connections to be good ( such as power and reset button connections) as they were working before and I did not change them.

Earlier the pc would not start. Only flutter once when I hit the power button ( attempted several times).I unplugged everything and powered on. It powered on (fans) and I heard a pop noise (sounded came from an unplugged power plug, I believe) I then plugged in a 9800 pro, but its fan did not come on (not enough power, I assume) . I tested on several of the power plugs to no avail. Switched to GeForce 2 ( doesn't require power plug in) and its fan turned on. The power plugs that could not power the 9800 pro do power the case fans.

This problem arose because I did some part swapping between this pc and another.

Thanks for any help

A:No video output to monitor, working VG

Did you move the Motherboard to another Case? If so, doublecheck that there are no Spacers underneath in the wrong position that may be shorting the board to the Case.

Have you tried a known working PSU? Often the fans will spin, the HDD powers up, but one of the other rails has blown -i.e RAM or CPU getting no juice. Seeing as you have no BEEP, this sounds likely

I have a compaq 7360. My computer is not showing the display on the monitor. The keyboards num lock also does not turn on once started. The computer when turned on, displays the green light showing that the power is on and also the green light for the hard disk, but there is no display on the monitor, whose light is set to amber.

I'm not sure what the problem is. It just started after I restarted it a few days ago.

Thanks.
