Mulitple monitors on Ultrabase 3 with X230

Q: Mulitple monitors on Ultrabase 3 with X230

I have a simple question, but the answer is not obvious (to me anyway) from checking the Lenovo product detail pages. Can I run 2 external monitors using the Ultrabase 3 with the X230 docked and the lid closed, so not using the built-in X230 display at all? And if so, what mixes are allowed between VGA and DVI? The product feature page for Ultrabase says it has both VGA and Display Port outputs. It doesn't say whether both can be used at once. And the link to the supported monitor configurations from that page just goes to a general page with a ton of info on docking solutions, but nothing on that page gets you to a list of monitor configurations. Duh. Any help is appreciated.

Preferred Solution: Mulitple monitors on Ultrabase 3 with X230

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Yes, and any mix is allowed for running 2 external LCD.

I bought an Ultrabase Series 3 for my x230 which runs windows 10. The optical drive works, the audio works, I have not tested the HDMI, but the USB ports do not work at all. I assume the problem is that I need drivers for the USB 3.0 slots. I have been all over the Lenovo support site, but find nothing. Either I missed it, or Lenovo has decided not to support them,  Perhaps somebody else has had this problem and has solved it? I did find drivers listed for download at an alternate site, but my AV software indicated that there is a virus in the download.

A:ultrabase series 3 drivers for x230 for windows 10

Apparently, the present driver for the station is 10.0.16299.15 which sounds like a Windiows 10 driver, but it has a date of 6/21/2006

Apologies if this is reprising and earlier question on this topic. I have recently acquired an old-ish second-hand ThinkPad X230 [2325SWK build with a G2ET91WW (2.51) BIOS], accompanied by a ThinkPad UltraBase Series 3 docking station [P/N 0B67692] which has an empty 2" bay.I need advice on the following issues:1    The X230 currently has an SSD installed [Samsung 128GB MZ7TD128HAFV-000L1] which will not be large enough for the programs and program data that I have planned to install.  I would like to upgrade to a 1 1TB SSD, and I propose to clone the contents of the existing 128 GB drive to a 1 TB Samsung 850 Evo [MZ-75E1T0B].  Are there any SATA or other firmware issues that I should be aware of before acquiring the 1 TB drive, arranging for its cloning and for the replacement of the current 128 GB drive?2    I would like to populate the empty 2" bay on the UltraBase Series 3 docking station with an HDD, and the model I have in mind is a 2 TB Seagate BarraCuda Hard Drive [ST2000LM015].  Again, I'd like to know if there are any hardware, firmware or other issues before acquisition and installation.I'd be grateful for any help on either of these two issues in an Australian context.

Hello, I was wondering if anyone could let me know if its possible to run 2 external monitors on the Lenovo x230. [MONITOR 1]              [laptop screen]        [MONITOR 2]   MONITOR 1= connecting via mini display port to HDMI  >> to monitorMONITOR 1= connecting via VGA >> to monitor I tried the above but I cant get it working on all 3 only - the 1 external 1 laptop screen works Does anyone know if the X230 grahics card was designed to handle that? Thanks

A:X230 and running 2 external monitors

You need a series 3 dock with 2 DP/DVI to be able to handle 2 external LCD in addition to the internal LCD.

Hi all, I have recently lost the keys for my x6 ultrabase. The laptop is left on its base which is tethered to my desk and it can spend a large amount of the day there unsupervised. So the lock is very important to me. The problem is, as far as I can tell, is that replacement keys are only available from an American base - I must be the only person in Europe with an ultrabase I have deduced ! Anyway that's normally not a problem and just a slight inconvenience shipping times wise. But then the shipping rate I was given was 28  ... for 2 keys that weigh no more than a few grams. I have mailed them on this but have not got a response. Long story short, is there a way to get these keys in Europe for anything less than a combined cost of 40 ? Thanks all for readingThomas

Thomas, welcome to the forum,
I don't know who you've been in contact with already, but the official source for Replacement Keys is ITXchange who have offices in Greenock, Scotland.

Hi, I recently purchased an X230T with an UltraBase and installed Ubuntu on the machine. My system freezes at the Ubuntu login screen when docked or when docking at the login screen. Otherwise if I am logged in it docks great and I love it  I have tried to circle around the Ubuntu community to see if anyone else had the same issue but it appears I have a very unique setup here. Are there any drivers I am missing perhaps?

I've tolerated this issue for way too long, but now that I use the X230t as my only work computer, the value of the docking station has become apparent.  But it turns out it's not all rainbows and unicorns.  If I use the dock's DisplayPort, the dock ethernet is disabled. If I unplug the dock's DisplayPort and use the laptop's DisplayPort, the dock ethernet works and the laptop ethernet is disabled.  It doesn't make sense that I can't leave all the peripherals connected to the dock so I can undock freely. Is there a known fix for the dock's DisplayPort disabling the dock ethernet?  X230t 3435-22U with 16GB RAMDock base FRU 04W6468 Ultrabase Series 3

I have an X230 i5 processor with a 1 TB SSD and I recently picked up a X230 with a i7 processor and a much smaller hard disk.  Can I just swap my big SSD into the new X230 (moving that version of Windows 7 Pro) and then install the smaller hard disk (with its version of Windows 7 Pro) into the i5 machine. (Will be swapping the memory so the i7 has the 16 GB and the i5 has 8 GB).  I know that if they were completely different computers this would not work, but since both are X230 will it work?  I'd rather not have to restall all the programs if I can avoid it!

I have just ordered some Stop Smoking downloads for my daughter. There are three separate files. I burned one file to a cd. I went through the process for burning a second file to the same cd, and it looked like everything was working just as with the first file, but when I then opened the cd, only the first file was on it.

So, I am wondering if there is a way to burn one file to a cd and then to burn another file to the same cd?

In passing, when I used iTunes to burn some songs to a cd, but left plenty of room on the cd, and I try to use iTunes to burn additional songs to the same cd, I get a error message that I need to insert a blank cd, which makes me wonder if there just isn't a way to do what I want to do.

Thanks, grandpaw7

Greetings Everyone,
was wondering if anyone has ever ran into this problem....

i have a company that has just purchased 50 new HP (XP PRO) workstations. All have the MS Office 2007 Suite (HP Branded) preinstalled on each. Every user needs a license (Pro 2007 version). Normally, I purchase an MLK activation key for each unit.

Here's my problem, there's 50 workstations ... and was wondering if there was a way to activate multiple licenses from 1 location? or maybe even a specific method that allows me to activate all the office suites without having to goto each individual workstation ...?

can it be done?

I've had a Presario s4020wm for a while now and have upgraded it multiple times. I'm wanting to upgrade the gpu (again), but the psu is severly lacking anymore. Here are current specs:

PSU-stock 200w
cpu-AMD Athlon XP 2.0ghz
chipset-VIA ProSavageDDR KM266
ram-1 GB edge
hd- 80gb, 160 gb both western digital ide
current gpu-nvidia gforce 5500fx

I was thinking I need to upgrade the power supply and the video card both. If i just go ahead and replace both of those I a $150 budget abouts and I'm not sure about how psu's are chosen. I've heard you need to check size, rail speed, wattage, number of cables, etc etc and I just got confused.

My other concern with doing upgrades lately is the whole computer overall. IDE drives seem to be a thing of the past and I dont have SATA connectors, The PSU is getting on the slower end, max supported ram is 1GB, you see where I'm going. Should I look at waiting or putting my money elsewhere?

Any help is greatly appreciated!

A:Doing mulitple upgrades...

Save up for awhile and put your cash into a new system. It's simply not worth upgrading your current one anymore, with $500 being able to get you a very decent system that is far more powerful than your current one.

If you want help on components for a new system, give us a budget, your location (fill out your profile with your system specs and location while you're at it) and whether or not you'll be willing to buy online, and we'll be glad to help.

I still have IE8 installer on the desktop, so someone else may help you.

But I'd suggest that you try the Avant Browser. It isn't really a "browser", but a frontend for IE, with tabs and maybe a lot more features you would like, like skins. It can be used along with IE and you can choose which is your "default".

I have had many problems over the past year with BSOD's. The sepcs of my pc are:

Corsair CX500M PSU

I have replaced the RAM, GPU and PSU have been replaced as well as adding a new fan and case since the BSOD's began.
The BSOD codes are usualy pretty random but a lot of them point to kmode expection not handled. I have ran memtests overnight which resulted in no errors. i have ran dskchk and used crystaldiskinfo to check the hdd which was fine. This leads me to believ it must be a bad driver. However i have done a clean reinstall of windows and the BSOD's still happen. PLEASE HELP! I will attatch a file of some BSOD's that happened recently.

Hi there,

Some of your dumps are blaming the display driver,

I have a HP Pavilion that has been nothing but problems since my warranty ran out. Ive gotten viruses from online that I was able to remove by completly recovering my computer, twice and then didnt have any problems for about a year. Recently I moved and now my floppy disk drive keeps saying " no id address mark was found on the floppy" and it will not format or anything. Since I only use my floppy drive to transfer data it wasnt a real big problem but then about a week ago I got an error message saying "missing file windowsroot\system32\hal.dll" and I borrowed a copy of windows XP Pro and was able to repair the problem.. or so I thought. I was playing a game and walked away from my computer, when I came back it was displaying a message saying " a read disk error has occured press alt+ctl+del to restart" I looked these problems up in the forums and am going to try the sugestions about replacing cables as soon as I can get some money, but any additional info would be helpful.

First let me say that you all are providing a terrific service here. Thanks.Multiple symptoms appearing on my computer:1. Microsoft Office applications suddenly stopped working - error message reported that the applications weren't installed for the current user. There is only one user, the "owner".2. Applications that are being installed suddenly cannot verify the publisher. As an example, I was trying to install an upgrade to Norton Antivirus to help with these issues. Norton won't install because the publisher can't be verified and the "signature" can't be verified. This ultimately leads to the installation failing.3. Some applications can be installed (such as Spybot S&D or Spyware Doctor), but then particular action buttons fail to operate properly and become blacked out.4. The current running version of NAV and my Sygate Personal Firewall are preventing the emails from getting out, but the number of emails is tremendous. Alright, so I've had about 4 BSODs on my homebuilt PC in the past 3 days. I ran Windows Memory Diagnostic and it didn't show any errors. I'm about to do the driver verifier, RAM, and HDD diagnostics. Here's my specs:

? OS - Windows 7
? x86 (64bit)
? This is the original OS (the PC is homebuilt)
? The OS is an OEM version that I purchased.
? The Computer was built roughly 8 months ago
? Age of OS installation - 8 Months, have never re-installed.

? CPU- Intel Core i5-2500k
? Video Card - GTX 560 Ti
? ASrock Z68 Extreme3 Gen 3
? Power Supply - PC Power and Cooling Silencer Mk II 750W

? System Manufacturer- Homebuilt

I followed the directions on BSOD Posting Instruction and have attached the zip file. Hopefully I did it right.

Thank you very much, for you time. Any help is greatly appreciated. I will also update once I run the HDD, and RAM Diagnostic and the Driver Verifier.

A:Mulitple BSOD Issues, please help

Ok, I ran the driver verifier, rebooted. The instant that it rebooted (after I logged in), it got a BSOD. I did as instructed, restarted in safe mode, restored using the restore point and rebooted once again. I went the windows/minidump and zipped up the files that were in there. I've attached them here. Hopefully that will help. Here's a picture of the BSOD I got (just in case, I didn't know whether to include it or not so I just did).

I look forward to any help I can get. Thank you for your time.

So, I have a Dell latitude D620 with an NVIDIA (I feel like an NVIDIOT) Quadro NVS 110M Display adaptor running the Laptop display and, when docked, an external flat panel.

Configuration overview:

-Windows XP Pro
-Laptop is normally in the docking station.
-Desktop is extended onto the external monitor when I am docked.
-The laptop's integrated display is display number 1 and is the primary monitor. The external display is display 2 and is used to extend the desktop only when I am working at my desk.

-No less than 4 Plug and play monitors show up in the device manager! (all enabled and supposedly working properly even though there are only two monitors ever present!)
-The start menu and task bar show up on the extended monitor whenever I restart the computer in the docking station after using out of the docking station.
-My resolution on my integrated laptop display changes when the laptop when the laptop is started outside of the docking station.

-Can anyone shed any light on how I might be able to lock my configuration to keep the start menu and task bar on my primary display and why there are 4 monitors in the device manager?

Something you may try that could fix this:

1. Remove the system from the dock.
2. Restart the system, hitting F2 at the Dell screen to enter the BIOS
3. Once in the BIOS, hit Alt+F, this will reset the BIOS to factory defaults
4. While still undocked, reboot into Windows.
5. Right click on my computer, hit properties. Under the hardware tab, choose hardware profiles.
6. Find and delete any dock profiles listed.
7. Restart the computer outside of the dock. Turn the system off after you've rebooted.
8. Dock the system, and restart to rebuild the docking profile.

That may solve the problem. Let me know what the results of this are, and I'll help you further if needed.

OS:Windows 7 SP1, My computer has recently encountered many problems that are related by the time they occurred. I'm not sure what caused it, but I alt-tabbed from playing Mass Effect and there on the corner of the screen I noticed "this copy of Windows is not genuine." I have an OEM Windows 7 Home Premium installation. I thought I just needed to revalidate and it was just a nonissue. I tried to revalidate on the Microsoft site, but the validation just would not open up. Shortly after that I experienced problems with the Windows Explorer file browser with messages saying that the "explorer.exe" did not exist and the libraries pin turned to the invalid file icon. I then checked the Windows troubleshooter which could not open because it couldn't find the file. I have run a couple tests with my antivirus/antimalware scanners and nothing came up. I could sure use some help here I'm at my wit's end. Thank you for reading my wall of text, please do help if you can.

I have a customer that is running a wireless network. I have 3 wireless routers set with static IP addresses from 251-253, and separate names. When someone is trying to connect to the network wirelessly, they can pick up one of these SECURED connections.

The problem I have is this: Someone outside the company, has an unsecured wireless network that the people inside the company keep connecting to.

What is the easiest method to filter out this "Rouge" connection so my clients will not connect to this unsecured network?

Hey, i have a GeForce 7300 LE graphics card, I wanted to add two monitors to it, so I got a second monitor and some spliters but no luck, i can get both monitors to display the same image, but can't config them to be an extended desktop. I have tried using a Y cable spliter, and a DVI to VGA adapter. still no luck, Any suggestions?

A:Mulitple displays on GeForce 7300 LE

If the card only has a single output, then it doesn't have the
hardware to extend to a second monitor.
If it has a second output, then you may need to use a DVI to vga adapter
to connect it to the second monitor.

Does anyone know of a device or unit that allows for many laptops to be charged and connected to the network at one time?

We have inspectors that travel with their laptops all day. It would be nice if they could be stored in a rack of some kind that would charge the laptop and allow them to get windows updates, virus updates etc.

Does anyone know of such a thing? I found notebook charging racks..but nothing mentioned about network capabilities.

We have all Dell notebooks...mostly Inspiron and Lattitude.

I'm not sure what kind of specialized product you're looking for, but obviously you need a switch and several power outlets. Beyond that, any shelving works.

I am part of the IT department in the business i work for. We just closed a deal with microsoft and (to my best knowledge) will be needing to upgrade all computers to windows 7 professional(or ultimate, to make it easier for the IS dept).
*bear with me, this is my first ever forum post
I just recently began with this employer so i don't have alot of real world experience. Most of the things i have done was in college. The business i work for has many different branches in many different locations and states.

I have done some research on the subject so i have a few ideas on how to do this upgrade, but i am not sure which will be 'easier'. I need a solution that will not require alot of man power, bc we are kinda thin in alot of our locations to have 'boots on the ground' to do this project.

Dell computers (varying on models)
most computers have (at least) 2GB memory, 80GB+ HDD
most computers only have a CDROM drive
computers are either running XP SP3 or 7professional

My thoughts:
I have experience with making an image of a computer and saving it to a server(from a previous job), and believe that to be the best option for this project because we use alot of programs with specific settings, and there are quite a few users out there(like managers, dedicated security camera computers, etc)that also require certain hardware, software and network configurations.
This would be the best decision if all the locations had the same(not sure if this is the correct terminol... Read more

A:Best way to upgrade XP to 7 on mulitple computers in a business?

Hello hrhardist Welcome to the Seven Forums!

Apparently you are in contact with an MS rep and are familiar with volume licensing to get that out of the way first off. A volume license allows you to use one disk on many machines. Or you could use an external hard drive to run the setup files extracted from an iso you download direct from MS to see a clean install of 7 on each machine. Install Windows 7 FAST without a DVD or USB device

The next guide explains how to perform a clean install once a drive is first cleaned off entirely to insure the best results since there is no upgrade path for 7 when moving up from XP. Clean Install Windows 7

A bootable iso image you create from a 7 installation dvd is another method. Bootable ISO - Create from Installation Files

And one more option available that even seems to speed up the install time a bit is the use of a usb flash drive your tech would carry in a pocket made up as a USB Install Key. USB Windows 7 Installation Key Drive - Create

As you can see there are various options to consider. The USB Install Key does seem to see 7 install faster over running the installation while booting live from the dvd. Mounting a bootable iso image is the other alternative to speed things up a bit.

Without the upgrade path the start up of the setup.exe file can still be seen while booted in XP. The drawback would be swapping out drives with a clean install of 7 being perfomed on only one machine while the hardware combinations are varying... Read more
