Usb Connection Second Monitor Device

Q: Usb Connection Second Monitor Device

I Have An Hp Desktop With Video Integrated On The Motherboard Rather Than A Separate Video Card.

I Want To Have A Second Monitor So I Can View One Document While Typing Information From It Into A Report.

I Purchased A Usb Connected Second Video Device So I Could Avoid Having To Open The “box” And Deal With Inserting An Additional Pci Card.

The Manual That Came With The Usb Device Says That If Your Computer Has An Integrated Video On The Motherboard That There Is A Utility In Its Software That Always Sets It As The Primary Display Monitor.

It Further Says That There Is Also A Utility That Disables This “always Primary Monitor” Feature, And It Can Be Run By Clicking On The “safely Remove Hardware” Icon In The Task Bar.

The Manual States That The “usb Device’ Setup Must Designate The Monitor Connected To It Must Be Set As The “primary Monitor” For This Device To Work.

I Tried To Change The New “usb” Monitor To The “primary” In Windows Display Settings But When I Make The Changes And Do The “re-start” Windows Requires To Effect The Changes, The Original Monitor Always Appears As The Primary Again, As Indicated Above, In The Manual For The “usb Device”

When I Click On The “safely Remove Hardware” Icon In The Task Bar, I Do Not See Anything That Refers To Disabling The “on Board Primary Monitor”.

Going To Windows Device Manager And Clicking On Monitors, I Can See The Original Primary Monitor And The New “usb Monitor” And They Both Show As “device Operating Properly”.

If I Right Click On The Original Monitor, According To Windows Icon That Appears I Can “disable” This Monitor.

My Concern Is, That If I Do Disable The Original Monitor, And The New “usb Monitor” Does Not Then Display, Will I Then Be “blind” In That I Will Have No Visual Access To The Computer Thus Making It Impossible To Do Anything Further.

If Anyone Can Provide Some Information/assistance I Would Greatly Appreciate It.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Is there a way to monitor all device's internet connection into a log ? (computer, laptop, tablets and phone ... all in one)

Deeper explanation :

because I do not like AT&T DSL 5M internet provider, but that is the only company in this area that has it.
(no Hughes dish etc ... no)

anyway, I am getting sick of disconnecting and reconnecting ... not sure if that DSL is fluctuating ... or along the DSL lines thru houses/business re-wiring DSL ... or etc etc etc ...

how can I know whether is it guaranteed disconnected/Reconnected by computer or DSL or etc ?

I was playing a 8 ball tournament online and lost one match dues disconnecting (no, hack/cheat involved because I played on mobile)

only thing I noticed is that AT&T cellular data still connected forever without getting disconnected ... but I can not use data plan because of the limited bandwidth/data usage.

so, I tried nearly everything I can think of and researched hard ... and tested it ... I still can not find an issue, even DSL guy came here to check it out ... nothing's wrong here ... BS ... there is something, somewhere that is causing disconnecting and reconnecting ...

already did flush dns, clear cache, etc etc ...

I just need networking monitor log because I am can not watch all 6 devices and test it when disconnecting occurs ... I thought that is a great idea to pinpoint even further down, for example : laptop #2, tablet #1 and this computer gets disconnecting reconnecting when ... Read more

I'm looking for a device to remotely connect the LCD monitor, the mouse and the keyboard (and eventulay USB, speakers and others) to the computer case.

Something like a home WiFi connection but not between the computer and a network but only between the external devices and the computer case.

The purpose is only to be able to use my computer everywhere in the house without carrying the box and repluging the +-15 cables again and again.
Any suggestion?

Hi guys,

I decided to purchase a Samsung LED monitor and have connected it up to my pc using a HDMI cable. I recieve the picture on the screen but no audio, been spending the majority of today trying to solve the issue but have landed short.

My set up is a AMD A10-5800K APU, 8 GB ram and using windows 7 64 bit. The monitor I purchased is a Samsung LED monitor T32E310EX.

Currently the speaker symbol has an x next to it, when I click it it tries to fix the problem. When I right click it and go to playback device it shows Digital Audio HDMI (High Definition Audio Device) as my default device but no sound bars next to it. If anyone could help me out that would be great thanks

First thing, I know next to nothing about computers.
We have a problem with our monitor switching off after start-up. The only way we can turn on the computer is by disabling the video card (Radeon x1300 pro).

Last thing that we did before the computer stopped working was to load suggested Windows Updates.
"Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool - August 2009 (KB890830)
Update for Windows Mail Junk E-mail Filter [August 2009] (KB905866)
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973540)
Update for Microsoft Office Outlook 2007 Junk Email Filter (KB972691)
Security Update for Windows Vista (KB973507, KB971657, KB971557, KB956744)"

We have tried updating the Radeon Video card which is now updated.
We tried re-installing the Viewsonic monitor wizard cd and it said that we had to manually install a component (display optimization files)for Vista but then it wouldn't complete the installation. The viewsonic file in program files is there but empty.

Now I've found that the Monitor device in Device Manager is gone so I can't try to enable or change anything to do with monitors.

A:No monitor branch in device manager

I have no access to another monitor to see if the problem is with the monitor itself.

Just wondering if I should spend the $200 on a new monitor or getting the computer fixed by tech guys?

I'm not very technical with the hardware but I thought I'd try adding a 2nd storage device to store my photos, etc. After adding the device with the correct setup based on the instructions, I restarted the computer. But during startup, there were few beeping noises and the monitor would not show anything. I figured I must have done something wrong so read the manual over and over tried different things. I finally gave up and decided to remove the 2nd storage device to keep the computer the way it was. But now, the monitor is still blank.

When I start the computer, everything seems to be humming. Boot drive, fan, chip, etc. I thought maybe it's the video card but it works in another computer and I tried putting another video card in, still nothing. Some message threads in the forum mentions reset BIOs CMO, etc. If this is the right approach, how do I do that?

I have an AMD Athlon Chaintech motherboard 7SID SiS735 based computer custom built by a friend.

Can anyone help as to how I should troubleshoot this? :darth:

In Control Panel go to Display. On the last Tab, Settings, go to Advanced, then you will see a tab called Monitor. Click on Properties, then Driver and you will be able to view and change drivers there.

(Yes, I know you can get there from System, but for someone who's never been there, this sometimes makes more sense.)

I am not very computer literate so excuse me if I don't speak "the language", but here goes... My operating system is Windows XP and thats pretty much all I know about this machine. A few weeks ago we had some downed power lines in our area. My computer is on a battery back up but the power surges were coming so fast frequent that instead of seamlessly transferring the power source to the battery, the computer kept trying to restart. It did this three times then I shut it down until the storms past.

When I turned it on the next day I got an error saying the Device Monitor Application failed to initialize and now alot of programs won't open, like Paint and Picassa. Also, I have an all in one printer, scanner, coppier and the coppier and printer work fine. The scanner works (mechanically) but the application it uses to transfer the document to the computer does't work. With these programs I just get the usual Microsoft error saying they are having a problem and asking if I want to repot it.

I can't find anything on the Microsoft site that looks like the Device Monitor Application and I'm concerned that my hard drive is damaged. What do you think, any ideas?

I've been having problems with my display (separate thread "monitor twitching...") I thought it might be my monitor. I tried updating drivers, which didn't help but actually made it worse. In searching for options I came across "roll back drivers" which I did and the display was better, without so many blacked out words for a while.

I think that the drivers automatically updated again... whatever happened the problem was worse again so I thought maybe if I uninstalled and reinstalled the monitor it might help.

It unistalled, but it didn't reinstall correctly. It's running, but it shows up as "Generic PnP Monitor" in Device Manager.

How can I fix this? I have a Gateway FHX2300 Monitor. (It's still shifting and blacking out words, worse than ever.)

Ok here it goes....

I was playing Bioshock and my computer froze. I got some crazy pink screen and then nothing so I had to do a hard restart. (SUCKED)

So, I turned it back on and noticed my Monitor Drivers were deleted? (ViewSonic 21" VX2025wm) I then of coarse reinstalled and everything seemed to be working nicely.

I started playing Call of Duty 4 and I could see some glitching so I stopped playing and started up my Nvidia System Monitor so I could watch the temp of the Video Card (8800GTXOC BFG). Noticed the temp rise to about 81 degrees C which is normal for the card and it crashed again. So now I'm convinced its the video card. Went to Nvidia Website and DL the newest drivers for the card v180.52. Of coarse I had to reinstall the Monitor drivers as well.

So all that done. I started playing one more time to see the results (Stupid I know) and the same thing happened but this time the Monitor and Sound Card Drivers were deleted. (Creative Sound Blaster Audigy 2). So I tried installing the sound card but I get this message (The File 'catc32k.sys' on Creative installer CD-ROM is needed) So I put the disk in and try to reinstall it but nothing. I even tried to manually remove and start over but still nothing.

Now when I try to install my monitor I can't because the disk does not work and I have to manually install it. But I have to click the plug and play monitor option in the Monitor Selection but it is not there. I have unplugged the monitor an... Read more

Looking for help on ad-hoc wi-fi network between Dell Inspiron 15 Laptop running Win 7 Ultimate and Nokia N79 running Symbian S60v3

I want to view live tv on my phone. A USB TV tuner card is connected to laptop which is in turn connected to Satellite DTH receiver. I can see TV in my laptop in Win Media Center and dedicated app provided by USB TV card maker.

I know basics - I have to connect phone and laptop via ad hoc wi fi connection. Run VLC player, select source and use rtsp:// protocol with .sdp extension.

I do all this but yet get unable to connect on real player in phone.

Pls share details about configuration settings of ad hoc connection ipv4 settings etc.

What am i missing?

A:Ad Hoc Connection between Lap and Mobile Device

At best I'll be of minimal help here, as there is so much I do not know about the phone and the special apps you are using.

For the ad-hoc wireless I recommend to get it working unsecured before trying to add encryption. You can leave it as a dynamic connection and then each device will be assigned an APIPA (169.254.x.y). This is a pain, however, because it takes a while for the two devices to get talking to each other and you don't immediately know the IP addresses in case you need to do some troubleshooting. So, I recommend assigning static IPs--suggest on one machine and on the other. Mask

When you think that the network should be working open a Command prompt on the laptop and

ping (assuming the phone was assigned that IP)

If you get replies you know you at least have one way communication.

If you have a non-Windows firewall or security suite on the laptop you may have to configure it for the desired access.

I just purchased a custom built system for my son. I bought the monitor separately. It?s an Asus ROG PG348Q. All drivers are up to date.

In Device Manager, under audio it shows the monitor correctly (built-in speakers I guess) but under monitor it shows Generic PnP.

I tried to Update Driver and it ?searched? the internet only to state that the generic Microsoft driver was the best one. I?m wondering if the monitor is performing below it?s potential by not running with its vendor-specific driver.

It seems to perform great as is. Just wondering why it?s not recognized for video as it is for audio.

Thanks for reading/commenting.

I regularly use my laptop to watch films on my TV. To do this I extend the desktop onto the TV and use VLC media player on this extended destop. This allows me to still use my laptop as normal. I want to be able to turn of my laptop screen (or just the backlight) as it is distracting when trying to watch the film. If I switch from the laptop to tv using crt/lcd (Fn - F8) on mine it makes the tv the main desktop which I don't want to do.

Hoping this is the best place to post this.

I recently purchased a gadget called a HD HomeRun Prime from a company called Silicon Dust, Model HDHR3-CC (www.hdhomerun.com). They are located in Plesanton, CA. It is supposed to stream live TV at 1080i to “any screen on your home network” , i.e., “Smart” TVs, computers, media players, game consoles, laptops, Blu-Ray players, Android devices, etc. It has three digital tuners and connects to my Verizon FiOS cable with an Ethernet cable going back to the Wi-Fi router. There is a slot for a Motorola “M-Card” (CableCARD) which I have obtained, installed and activated. Verizon charges $4.99/mo. to rent this card. This is supposed to give you the ability to stream the live TV to three devices (wirelessly) without having to rent additional set-top boxes from Verizon at $11.99/mo. The product literature stated that it was “dlna certified” but did NOT mention that devices intended to be used with it also HAD to be dlna certified or compliant. The only requirement it places on TVs is that they be “Smart.” (See http://www.hdhomerun.com/company/about/ for a more detailed technical explanation.)

Soooooooooooo, I went out and bought two Vizio E241i-A1W TVs. They are “Smart” 1080p technology. The software supplied with the device is installed on an ACER NetBook running Windows 7. This is able to connect to the device, wirelessly through the Wi-Fi router and displays all of the channels (including premium) I am able to see on the TV... Read more

A:Vizio TV connection to HDHomeRun device

The two methods would be via app/software or DLNA.

DLNA support is a feature, and isn't supported on all models/brands. If it's supported, it should be listed in the specs. I didn't see it mentioned in the User Manual for your TV.

If Silicon Dust states it won't work, then it sounds like you are out of luck. If there was a work around, or even a solution that works on some models, they would be the ones to know.

I was looking for a supported TV list on their site, but couldn't find one.

I set up ICS on my laptop so that I can use my Xbox 360 in the living room. Everything runs fine, however when I run a network diagnostic test on the 360 it tells me that it only has "moderate" connectivity to the NAT.

When I have the 360 hooked up directly to the router setting up the DMZ for the 360 is no problem. However, when the 360 is set up in the living room and running off of the ICS I can't set it up as a DMZ because my router only allows a DMZ to be set up as a hardcoded 192.168.1.xxx format. Since the address assigned to the 360 does not follow the 192.168.1.xxx format I need to be able to assign the DMZ to an address that doesn't maintain the 192.168.1.xxx convention. Is there any way of doing this either by reconfiguring my WRT54G router in some way or by some other networking trickery?

Thanks in advance.

I've been having problems with my 2 laptops dropping the connection to our wireless for the past couple of years.
At first we thought the our wi-fi router was dying, so we bought another one, set it up the same way, and then experienced the same problem which is the connection will drop, we'll have to reboot the wireless router and then we can connect....and we keep having to do this with the 2 laptops we have. Our 1 PC that is connected via ethernet to the same wireless router has never had any problems. SO I am not on my 3rd wireless router now, this time a D-link WBR-2310 and am just sick and tired of having to keep rebooting the router every time the connection drops.

Both of our laptops on Windows XP, SPK 2 and both configured to use the Intel-Pro-Set wireless configuration utility as we thought maybe the windows management option was the problem.

The Wireless router is set to Broadcast our SSID and is using the "Enable the WPA wireless security" option with TKIP. We have "Enable extended Range mode" selected. DHCP Server is turned on.
So what can I do??? Obviously it can't be the router as this our 3rd one.

This isn't exactly a Windows7 problem, but I don't know where else to ask it.

I've purchased a small (single 2TB) network assessable storage unit - a Western Digital MyBookLive. I'm having trouble connecting the MBL device to the LAN. My LAN config is consists of an Actiontec GT701-WG router/DSL modem/ WiFi access point, a LinkSys 5-port ethernet switch, a Win7 desktop PC ethernet-connected to the router through the switch, a wireless-connected XP desktop PC, and a wireless-connected Vista laptop.

The NAS device supports UPnP so I can connect it directly to the router or any of 3 computers on the LAN - a Win7 desktop, a Vista laptop, and an XP desktop. The device is visible (but not necessarily usable) in each of thse cases. However, if I connect the NAS device to the switch nothing sees it. I've tried multiple ports on the switch (including ports that work for the PC) and multiple ethernet cables. Nothing works.

The NAS device supports 10M/100M/GB ethernet. The router and switch switch support 10/100MB (although the router reports it has a 10MB connection to my PC so maybe one of these devices doesn't actually support 100MB). When directly connected a PC or laptop the NAS device's ethernet status LED is green. When directly connected to the router it shows yellow. (I may have those colors reversed.) When connected to the switch the status LED is off. I suspect the color is an indication of the connection speed, and no speed has been determined whe... Read more

I truly have searched many threads with a variety of search terms and cannot zero in on the exact problem or a potential solution. Here is a concise description:

Old 2002 Dell Dimension 4500 which could not update to Service Pack 2 on Xp Pro. Reformatted and reinstalled operating system. Desktop appears and all functions seem normal except can not connect to Internet. There is an Ethernet connection to the motherboard, and the connection to the net is working (main computer on which I write this is connected via DSL to the net). Device drivers have been installed from CD backup disk, as well as downloaded from Dell support. Have repeated process twice, with same result.

Device Manager does not show an internet connection box; Other devices show four lines, all with yellow question marks. Typing ipconfig /all in the cmd window produces nothing--no error, no listing.

SIW profile program says, under "Network Service", that there is an Ethernet Controller. Clicking on this shows a description with one line saying: Status: "0x01802400 has problem".

Another profile program, Belarc Advisor reports, under "Communications:, the following line: "Network Card MAC 00:00:00:00:00:00".

I am really stuck on how to proceed and solve this problem. Hopefully, with this diagnostic information, some of you more knowledgeable people can help me.

Any advice?
Many thanks, Ken

A:No Networking Connection in Device Manager

I would logically guess that either no drivers are installed for the network adapter, the incorrect drivers are installed or the network adapter itself is not functioning.

I would lean toward you're not having istalled all the motherboard drivers and devices because you have so many question marks in your device manager, which doesn't preclude having a dead network adapter because I don't know if a MAC address would be reported by BELARC regardless of identification of the device or not. If it is supposed to, the "flat line" of zeros probably means its dead, if not, drivers.

Hi all, I've been dealing with this problem for a few weeks now, I moved into a new apartment, got my internet set up, and I've noticed my new PC doesn't get the same connection speeds as all the rest of my devices, or my roommates devices. I'm running Windows 10, I've tried both a wired and wireless connection, both limited to around ~20mbps, when I'm paying for 150mbps, and every other device, ie. my phone, PlayStation, my roommates PC, and his phone, all connect consistently over both wired and wireless at 130-150mbps. I've tried uninstalling my AV software (despite following all steps to uninstall, Norton still has files in my ProgramData I can't get rid of, and TSG SysInfo still detects it as my active, enabled AV), setting my TCP/IP stack and WINSOCK to default, as recommended in another forum I found, and updating my drivers. I've read to start up in Safe mode and check the connection speed from there, but I find that I can't get my browser to open in Safe mode to try, and I'm unaware how to check it otherwise. Any help would be appreciated, I'm losing my mind a little

I encountered a problem with my internet connection and I believe it may have to do with DNS. I can't access the internet at all on my laptop, neither Chrome, Internet Explorer, or Firefox work. I ran a diagnostics test and received this message: "The remore device or resource won't accept the connection." More details state that "the device or resource (www.microsoft.com) is not set up to accept connections on port 'The World Wide Web service (HTTP).' I've searched through many forums and tried countless possible solutions:

Resetting my computer
Power cycling the modem
Resetting Internet browser settings
Flushing the DNS via cmd
Releasing and renewing the IP address (Note: cmd is unable to renew the IP because it fails to connect to the DHCP server)
Disabling Windows Firewall
Checking for proxy settings that may be checked

I'm using a wired connection that goes directly to the modem, no router. An interesting thing to note is that I am able to connect to the internet via mobile hotspot on my Android phone. I've already contacted my ISP (Comcast) and they believe it's a computer related issue but through my trials, this doesn't seem to be the case. It looks like a DNS issue.

Oh, here is my ipconfig (I couldn't include it in the original post because I'm using my phone and the length of post ate up lots of memory)

I am using Windows 7 Ultimate. I need to use wireless keyboard. When I use bluetooth device it can detect my keyboard but it is unable to stablish the connection with keyboard. I can't understand what is the problem. The required driver is installed successfully. How can I fix this problem?

A:How to stablish connection with wireless device

This is not really a networking question. So you may want to move this to the appropriate forum.

But you say it is Bluetooth. Please post the make and model of your computer and the make and model of the keyboard.

Although there are Bluetooth keyboard most wireless keyboard use a USB receiver and not Bluetooth. So we need to know what make and model to make sure it is Bluetooth.

About a month ago I have suddenly stopped getting internet connection to my phone from only my internet (wifi). Other devices can connect to my wifi network and my phone can connect to different wifi networks. My phone does connect to the wifi (It says connect to Edimax...) but no data comes in.The problem is not that I have inputted the wrong password. I have tried resetting the phone (factory reset), no progress. I have called my ISP (they don't know how to help). I don't know what else I can do. Please if you can, help me.

If yes, what happend and when for it to stop working as expected ? - What is your operating system used ?- Do you have network device drivers installed ?- Do you use any 3rd party security application (with firewall capability) ?  Looking forward to your reply.

I have bought a new system mainframe and I can't transfer my old scsi port into the new system. I have my printer on the parallel port and I wondered if it's possible to connect the scanner through a USB port, or whether I need to purchase a new scsi card....

A:Widowview Scanner Connection Device ?

Welcome to TSG

It would be better to just get a new card if you can’t get the old one to work. A Tekram DC315U is more than sufficient for any scanner and sells for about $25 in the US. It is for a standard mini 50 pin SCSI connector.

A USB to SCSI adapter wouldn’t work as well and would probably be pricier. You can’t just get an adapter cord with SCSI on one end and USB on the other if that is what you were asking.

Win 7 Home Premium running On Dell Studio 1558 laptop (Intel i5 with 4G Ram).

About 50% of the time when I plug a usb device in (happens with different devices, different ports) I get a total system crash - not truly a BSOD here since it just looks like something is writing to graphics memory (odd patterns/colors on screen, etc). When I pull the USB device - the system reboots and comes up as normal (and sometimes will take the device that was just inserted fine!). Zip file with dump and perfmon attached (I hope)

A:BSOD - Windows 7 on USB device connection

Hi -

The 2 BSODs both name Acronis as the probable cause -

snapman.sys Sat Aug 15 04:42:00 2009 (4A8674D8) - Acronis Snapshots Manager

Remove Acronis.

I would also recommend that you update ATI video drivers -

ATI video --> http://support.amd.com/us/gpudownload/Pages/index.aspx

Remove McAfee Internet Security --> http://jcgriff2.com/A-V_Removal_Tool...e_Removal.html

If BSODs persist, run the Driver Verifier

This is a strange problem. I have a linksys g wireless adapter plugged into the usb. Recently comcast installed cable internet and I have an ethernet connection now and wanted to move wireless adapter to another computer...When I unplug the adapter the monitor shuts off and the computer seems to want to go to sleep mode. If I plug it back in, it runs perfectly fine. I have tried a ton of different stuff but still I get this problem. Running computer in safe mode does not cause this problem while the adapter is unplugged however.

I searched high and dry on the internet and really could not find another person with the same problem. I have a lot of knowledge with computers and hardware but never have I been baffled like this. I have tried everything from deleting the device in device manager to a system restore to previous date. No matter what I have tried my computer has an dependency of sorts on this wireless card! Any ideas?

Hey everyone,

I recently did a clean install of Windows XP on a relatively old PC. It was working fine for a week, but suddenly a few days ago I was not able to start up normally (the beginning couple startup screens had odd stippling and the text were offset slightly-kind of hard to explain exactly what it looked like). When it got to the Windows loading screen, it would hiccup for a second, a fan in my case (the video card fan I think) would rev up, and then the screen would go black, at which point the message INPUT SIGNAL OUT OF RANGE would show up and I would be forced to restart.

I can start the computer fine in safemode, though I cannot change any monitor settings (can't change resolution) and when I go to settings -> advanced -> monitor the "properties" option there is grayed out and it says Default Monitor and for the refresh rate I can only choose Use hardware default setting.

I then checked the device manager only to find that there was no monitor tab there. I sense for whatever reason that it's just not detecting my monitor, and that's what is causing the problem. I've installed the latest video drivers as well as motherboard drivers (I believe).

My motherboard is a GA-965-DS3 rev. 1.0
My graphics card is an MSI GeForce 8800 GTS 512mb
My monitor is a Hanns-G HW191D

Any help will be very much appreciated! Using only safemode is a pain.

A:Input Signal Out of Range / No monitor in device manager

ga-965p-ds3 a relatively old pc? :) ya, i guess it is, about 3 yrs old now?

anyway, try unplugging the graphics card from it's slot and then re-install it. if that doesn't help your graphics card might be faulty. do you have another one to try?

We wanted a pc in the lounge to network for watching films on our TV, but having installed Win XP Pro and as many drivers as possible (graphics, network card - latest available, mouse, keyboard etc) but i'm hitting a problem.

Although the ethernet card appears in the device manager list, There is no available Network Connection.

Whenever i try opening windows firewall i get a message saying the ICS is not running. If i enable it nothing changes. If i then restart i must then enable it again the next time i try and open the firewall.

I have ran the Network wizard and entered all the correct information (name, connection type etc).

The most i know about running a command line command to check the settings is:
ping and that returns 100% of the data
ipconfig /all shows nothing

The computer is a Packard Bell I-Media and is about 6 years old.

Any ideas?

A:Network connection not appearing, but ok in device list...?

When you ping all you are doing is pinging your own pc, If you want to ping something ping www.yahoo.com or some web site and find out what that is getting.

The other question I have is did you just re-install or install Windows on your computer?

Some system specs on your computer would be great and also would help to diagnose the problem.

I thought this would be simple.
All I want to do is automatically launch Samsung KIES when I connect my phone.
The autoplay window opens when I connect the phone and shows the device, I can select 'view more autoplay options... ' from the list and open the control panel autoplay window where the device is listed. When I select the device I get the dropbox with various options to sync files, download immages etc. But there is no option to launch linked programs.
I know this can be done because my camera automatically launches lightroom when it is connected.
So how do I do this?

Just spent 3 hours searching for an answer.

A:automatically launch software on connection of device

Click Type the word: autoplay. Click the top result. In the window that pops up, scroll down to devices. For your phone, choose the action you want to happen every time.

I have a very annoying thing that seems to have popped up in the last 2 days or so. I installed Win 10 on my custom built computer about a week ago and it has been working just fine. Then about two days ago I started getting the sound that it makes when you connect a USB drive to the port or some other device. It goes non-stop, sounding off every 15-20 seconds. I checked my device manager and nothing is changing there. There is something that pops up in the tray in the lower right but it disappears so fast that I can't see what it is. I have no idea what is causing this but it's driving me crazy. If anyone else knows what might be causing this, I would be most interested in hearing how to resolve it.

EDIT: resolved. I had a usb hard drive hooked up in back that I didn't know was connected.
