I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi,I got and AUKEY PB-XD20 with USB PD (Power Delivery) 12V 1,5A - 18W.When I connect it to my yoga it charges it for few seconds than disconnects. Repeating the cycle over and over. The thing is - when I turned Yoga off and leave it connected to this power bank time the % of the battery is going up.When Yoga is up, after few cycles it gets crazy and hangs - forcing me to restart it. Can someone at Lenovo take a look into it and allow to charge it with some lower wattage while off? I do not want to break anything, but this cycle is probably worse than constant power delivery.

Hi,

I am planning on buying a portable wall charger/powerbank and I just want to make sure it won't reduce my phone's battery life in the long run. The phone I have is a BLU Energy XL, which came with a 9V/2A charger that plugs into the wall. However, the powerbank that I am most interested in provides 5V/4.8 or 5V/3.0A (or Qualcomm 3.0, which I am actually not sure about the tech specs) and most powerbanks in general I believe provide something like 5V maximum from USB type ports. In looking up some articles, I discovered that one should try to match the voltage of a replacement power supply (in this case, analogous to my powerbank) to the original power supply because otherwise this may impact the battery's lifetime. Is that true?

In general for my knowledge, how does one convert between something like 9V/2A and 5V/3A in terms of the impact it has on a battery? I can kind of conceptually understand the impact that current has in that it really sets an upper limit for the Amps that a power supply can find and the higher the amps for a given voltage, the faster a device will charge. Not really sure about the impact of voltage? Can one just compare the power of the different chargers like 9*2= 16 watts vs 5*3=15 watts?

Thanks in advance!!

My laptop is Dell Inspiron 15 3000 Series.
I bought a power companion recommended by the Dell representative.
Just received the shipment today, and it won't charge my laptop.
It does keep the battery stay on the same level, but it won't charge it.
Here is what I got as soon as I plugged the power companion into my laptop:
" Your AC power adapter type cannot be determined.
Your system will operate slower and the battery will not charge. This problem might be solved by:
1. Ensure the plug is inserted completely for best system operations.
2. Connect a Dell 65W AC adapter or higher."
I have tried everything and the problem still remains.
Frustrating!

Dear Dell Customer Support,
I recently purchased a XPS 13, which, despite some challenges with the touchpad, works just fine. In order to boost the battery capabilities and independence from power sources I purchased a power companion. The first charges however, despite being for 8 hours (1st), and 14 hours (2nd) indicate (via LED lights) that the companion is only charged for 60% (3 LED lights). This is rather frustrating, because it defeats the purpose of a power companion, wouldn't you agree?
Could you please advice on how to proceed to achieve the full charge on this device?
Your assistance is highly appreciated.

Yours faithfully
Prof Phil

A:Power Companion 12000mAh Charging Problems

That is odd, what does the battery status light indicate about the Power Companion? You should be using a Dell AC adapter when charging the power companion.
Diagnostic Indicators

When the Dell Portable Power Companion is over heated the 1st and the 2nd LED will flash interchangeably in amber and white color respectively.
When a wrong adapter is connected first LED will glow in solid amber, until wrong adapter is disconnected or correct adapter is used.

Checking Battery Health
Battery health can be identified by pressing and holding the power button on the Dell Portable Power Companion for five seconds.
Have you noticed the first and second LEDS flashing white or amber? Have you noticed the first LED glowing solid amber? After charging the Power Companion press and hold the power button for five seconds, how many LEDs light up?
Have you noticed any problems with the notebook itself when charging directly from the system AC adapter? No use diagnosing the Power Companion if there is a problem with the AC adapter / notebook.

Hi,

My dell power companion 18000 didn't charge.  I plugged in my power companion to the AC adapter and it basically said 5 leds thinking it is fully charged.    Holding down the power button for 10 seconds, then letting go shows 1 constant led.  Again no problem.   Plugging in the battery to my latitude laptop doesn't charge at all.  Tapping the button once on the power companion turns it on and briefly (15 seconds) charges my laptop and then stops.  I did this maybe 5 more times and then the power companion was completely dead.  Tapping the power button shows no leds showing.  Holding down the power button again shows no leds.  This battery is now completely dead.  I plug my dell ac adapter into it and the battery now starts charging (shows 1 led).  Eventually it shows 2, 3, 4 ,5 leds and shows it is fully charged.  I still need to test how much power it really has but I think it is fully charged. This is the interesting bit.  I think there is a bug where it doesn't properly show the correct amount of power it has when it close to dead.  Because the battery thinks it is fully charged, it doesn't charge itself at all even though it is almost dead.   Probably there is no way to fix this unless there is a way to update the firmware through the power cord.Dell uses some cheap ink and it shows.  My power companion isn't close to a year old and the ink is really... Hi,
I have been very happy Dell user for years now  - My e7k series laptop, two U2711 monitors and my power companion until few days ago. After 1.5 years around the world and different airplanes, the product was not allowed on an airplane anymore and we travel without checked in baggage (due to time limitation I did not have time to purchase carry on baggage for the battery either).Problem: The label on the bottom was badly warn (although it has been in plastic bag and safe place) - Battery itself had no or minor scratches. And due to incompetence of the airport workers, they just did not let me board the airplane with this tiny battery, if the label was worn. Meaning I just lost my very useful 120€ battery.Solution: Do more user friendly and durable labels - As my battery was never mistreated or badly held, but the label content was still almost completely warn off (black content was worn, left me just white label).Thank you!

Yesterday my laptop suddenly refuse to get power from AC source. Following the instructions on the web, I first assumed AC adapter faillure. But the adapter works well. The tiny LED next to the power inlet went off, although Windows catches the AC adapter driver and seems working. The last job I did before the problem was updating the BIOS, which is instructed by HP Support program.  I bring it to the service center, but they refused to take it since it's not a Korean-sold model (I bought it from the other country).Quite annoying because they did not take any questions at all, just repeating 'we don't accept that, go away'. Can anybody give me a solution? The battery is only half-filled, and after it dries I think it would be turned into a piece of brick.I really need a help. Hi this is going to sound strange but does the XPS13 actually charge via its USB-C port on the side. We just brought an XPS13 online via dell and it came with a power adapter that charges via a 4.5mm round input connection. We also ordered the power companion PW7015MC as recommended as an accessory. the power companion charged up to full by using the power adaptor that came with the XPS13 (yes all five little lights were on saying it was fully charged and we pressed the button on the companion that also put a small blue light on the end of the USB-C end but it will not charge up the XPS13 via USB-C. To experiment we used the power companion and the 7.4mm adaptor cable that was also in the box and charged up a latitude laptop we own. It was recognised instantly and it powered up from 60% to 80% in a short period of time. I am assuming that if we try and track down an adaptor that has a barrel USB-C end and a 4.5mm round plug end then this would work on the XPS3. But what I would like to clarify first is the XPS3 is supposed to be able to be charged via the USB-C port? Its tech specifications we read online when we ordered it said it was!

The Power Companion PW7015M/PW7015L is not a bootable power source. It is simply a battery charging device. It is compatible in the sense that it can charge the XPS 15-9550. I am not even sure if (1) will work. Test it.
(1) * Laptop is off* Wall outlet --> Laptop AC adapter --> PW7015M power in port --> PW7015M power out port --> PW7015M power output cable --> Laptop AC power in port* Turn Laptop on
(2)* Laptop is already on* PW7015M power out port --> PW7015M power output cable --> Laptop AC power in port* Charges Laptop battery

On BIOS 01.01.19, when I plug the 18000mah Dell Power Companion in to my XPS 15 9550, the CPU locks to it's x9.0 multiplier. It's as if it's setting the CPU speed on how much power is coming in to the laptop (as the Power Companion is too weak to charge it). This reminds me of the old issue of the CPU multiplier locking when removing the power connector, which now seems to force the CPU to drop to x9.0 multiplier before climbing back up slowly (so it's not instant, but good enough).Does anybody else experience these issues?

Hi everyone,

Ever since I bought my XPS13 a bit more then a year ago with the 12000 Dell Power bank, I encountered problems. At some instances, when the power companion is put into my laptop, the speakers become distorted, and the laptop becomes very slow and sluggish. The sound gets back to normal when I pause music for a minute or so. However, the computer runs still slow/sluggish since two weeks now.
I see it especially in the browser (edge), as the cursor becomes sluggish when hovering over buttons, and in general the browser is very slow in responsiveness...
I already ran a bloatware test, and a AVG scan!

Hope someone would be able to help me!

Hi,
I have a XPS 13 (9350) and recently discovered that my trackpad & certain keys were slowly being raised out of place due to a swollen battery. The laptop is already out of warranty by a few months. As a precaution, I removed the battery and have been working off AC ever since.
As an alternative to purchasing a new internal battery, would the Dell Power Companion (12000 mAh - PW7015M) be a suitable alternative? Would I be able to plug this accessory into my battery-less laptop? Or do you need an actual functioning internal battery installed? I'm only mobile (without AC) for a few hours per month so carrying an additional accessory around wouldn't be a big concern for me
Thanks,

I'm wondering if there are any recommended external extended runtime battery options for the 7710 series laptop.
I see dell now has some external add-on battery options for longer runtime for the 5510 -- the Dell Power Companion 1800 mAh
accessories.us.dell.com/.../ProductDetail.aspx
but I assume it must not have sufficient output for the 17" 7700 series.
Is there an equivalent product for the 7700 series? I'd like to add 12 hours of runtime for a location that may have a few power outages a year and wouldn't mind buying a couple or few of these devices if there were one which was compatible.

Earlier today our HP Spectre XT 13-2100ea was working fine. Now, it will not power on. Pressing the power button results in the power and WiFi LEDs (F12) illuminating briefly, then the lights go out and the laptop does not boot. NB: the LEDs are not blinking so I do not think this is an error code as far as I can tell. I have tried the following: 1) 8s hardware reset: disconnect power cable, hold power for 8 seconds, lights as above illuminate briefly, re-insert power cable, power on and it still does not power on. 2) 15s hardware reset: as above but hold power for 15s (HP's website quotes two different numbers). 3) BIOS restore (Windows key + B then power on while holding Win+B): as above lights, then nothing. I can see that the power cable is charging: when it is inserted the charging LED is white. I am not able to try a different power adaptor nor try the existing on on a different laptop as I only have one of each. This computer has Windows 10 64-bit patched to 02 April 2017, ie: is fully up to date.  Any suggestions would be gratefully appreciated, thanks.-Colin

Hello, In order to identify the issue accurately, I would request you to perform following troubleshooting steps: Step 1: a. I would request you to unplug the adapter and also unplug if any peripherals is connected. b.Remove the battery from the unit. c.Press and hold the power button for 10 to 15 seconds and let go, then connect only the adapter without the battery and try switching on. Step 2: If posiible ,try swapping with known good battery, in order to be specific on the issue that whether it is battery or system board.  Step 3: If posiible, try swapping with known adapter and check whether it is powering on.  If the issue still persists the problem is with the system board. //Click on Kudos and Accept as Solution if my reply was helpful and answered your question//I am an HP employee!!

I purchased my Spectre x360 in July 2015 planning on buying a high end piece of reliable hardware.  I have had no problems with it (other than a trackpad issue that was patched soon after launch).  Fast forward to today.  I go to power it on and nothing happens.  It had been charging overnight so the battery should be good.  I check the power adapter is putting out correct voltage and attempt to do a hard reset.  Nothing.  Since the unit is out of warranty I open it up and pull the battery plug, hold power button, and then plug the battery and adapter back in.  Still nothing.  I then notice some fried caps and a fried IC under one of the stickers of the unit.  After some googling I see lots of people with this problem.  I go to contact tech support and find out I could be charged for the phone call!  Besides I don't feel like running through the "turn it off and back on" checklist when I can see the problem with my eyes.  Further googling has revealed this is a rather common problem and replacement costs are pushing the costs of the unit.  I am very dissatisfied for having something I paid over $1000 for and it not work in this short of period of time.  I put off making my laptop purchase for this thing to be released!  I recommended it to people  I am hoping someone from support sees this and can help me get a replacement board since this isn't a normal wear and tear issue. Hello All, I just purchased a spectre 13-v001na and I had no idea at the problems of only having usb-c ports. i am not very technical and have been doing some reading here in london. I need to find a compatible device that will allow me to charge the spectre, hardwire it to the internet and connect it to a monitor. i am worried that hp don't seem to allow the machine to connect with a lot of devices / that there are some usb-c chargers that might damage the machine? so if anyone knows of the best value adapter that works on the spectre that also charges it that would be great. also which are the best value cables to connect devices to the laptop directly i guess? is there a way to charge my cell phone off the spectre; or would it charge off the adapter? finally is there a battery pack/portable charger that would work to charge the spectre? or has battery technology still not got that far? thanks in advance for any help and sorry if i havent explained it so well

I seem to have a strange issue where my keboard will not work at all when I don't have the power cable plugged in.  The minute I unplug the power the touchpad and keys will not work.  I have tried to dock and undock, shutdown and restart while docked, shutdown and restart with out dock and then inserting into dock.  It makes the sound that it is docked but nothing appears to work.  Any one else see this?

Hello bgatesjr, welcome to the HP Forums. It appears that when the power is unplugged that the keyboard and touchpad are not working as the should. I will try to assist you with this. I'd suggest starting with updating all drivers for your notebook with the HP Support Assistant, this should be on your notebook. These documents may also be able to assist you:     Using and Troubleshooting the TouchPad or ClickPad (Windows 8)    Notebook Keyboard Troubleshooting (Windows 8)If the above fails, you could try a system refresh: Refresh Your PC to Resolve Problems (Windows 8). Aside from that, I'd recommend contacting support for further assistance if the persists.HP Technical Support, North America 1-800-474-6836. For all other regions click here. Hi. I have just purchased a new Spectre laptop in the US. I need to travel to Australia for work. Will this US laptop be OK when plugged into mains power in Australia which has a different mains voltage (assuming I use an appropriate plug converter). Also, do you know if it is possible to use an Australian HP Spectre power adaptor so that I don't have to carry around one of those ugly power converters on the end of the US plug? Thanks in advance.

Hello,I purchased a while ago a Spectre x360 (from Best Buy), this was model 13-4110dx.Because this one was stolen I purchased another Spectre x360, but I could not get same modelso I purchased directly from hp what they have: model 13-4118nr.I still have the power supply of first model, my question is if I can use the power supplyof first model with the new model? I noticed power supplies are also not same model...I understand both models have same electrical spec, so I guess it is safe to use the power supplyof first model with new one, but I look for confirmation. Thanks, zvikush

A:Spectre x360 power supply compatibility

Dear Customer, Both unit works with 45W AC adapter and has a 3-cell 56WHr 4.96Ah lithium-ion battery. So the A/C adapter are interchangable and will not harm the unit.If the Charging port of the New Laptop lets your connect the OLD charger and you see the battery charging, You may use it and it should work fine.    Hope this helps, for any further queries reply to the post and feel free to join us again  **Click the White Thumbs Up Button on the right to say Thanks**Make it easier for other people to find solutions by marking a Reply 'Accept as Solution' if it solves your problem. Thank You,GBL84I am not an HP Employee

Hello - I am looking to standardize on the new HP Spectre 13-v-21nr at my company.  My question relates to the USB Type-C port and power delivery.  When the Spectre is in UFP mode (Power source, powering an external USB type-C device), which power delivery profiles are supported?   The new USB 3.1 power delivery spec provides the following profiles and I am most interested in understanding which profiles are supported by this new laptop.  The power-delivery spec allows for a maximum voltage of 20 V (4 the previous 5-V spec) and a maximum current of 5 A (more than 3 the previous max of 1.5 A). The power-delivery spec also classifies power sources in terms of profiles:? Profile 1 (Default Startup): 10 W (5 V @ 2 A)? Profile 2: 18 W (5 V @ 2 A -> 12 V @ 1.5A)? Profile 3: 36 W (5V @ 2 A -> 12 V @ 3A)? Profile 4 (Micro B/AB limit): 60 W (5 V @ 2 A -> 20 V @ 3 A)? Profile 5 (Standard B/AB limit): 100 W (5 V @ 2 A -> 20 V @ 5 A)

My Spectre just died. One second it was sitting on a table, screen dimmed, charging, and the next, poof, no power, no signs of life.I'm 28 days out of warranty and HP has refused to repair this as a warranty claim. Buyer BEWARE. There are scores of people with this issue, it is a manufacturing defect, but HP isn't doing a recall on it.I want it repaired for free (well, really I want my money back as I am not sure I trust it), but so far, nothing.

With my new Spectre x360, I have 3 powered USB 3 ports. I need to disable having power going to one of them. My Garmin 3597 will not be recognised on this notebook when I connect my device, for upgrading the maps, unless it is a pure data port..."no charging". Is there some way to be able to disable having power go to one of the USB 3 ports. Would be a great feature if I could do this. I know you can disable the charging of the ports when in sleep mode, hibernation mode and off in the BIOS, but how to disable 1 or if not possible, all , when powered on. Any one have any ideas ?

Press the power button and then tap the F2 key to invoke the startup menu. Choose and click on the F10 key to invoke the BIOS. Use the System Configuration tab. Disable USB Charging  and press the F10 key to save the changes and boot into Windows.
