I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi all,

Last tuesday I've received my new laptop / netbook: Asus X205TA. After installing everything I found out that my brightness isn't adjusting. I've tried to:
- Use all different ways to adjust brightness (charms bar, shortcut, power plan settings etc.)
- Windows update
- Update Microsoft Basic Display Adapter drivers (there are no updates available)
- Disable and re-enable the Display Adapter

Yet: it's not working. I've also have a problem booting up games. Even the simplest of games (as the netbook is low-spec) are either not booting up, or they show errors about not being able to access the video card or so. I wonder whether these issues have something to do with the brightness settings.

I'd appreciate any input from you guys

Cheers

Well issue is that your graphics cards drivers are't installed, nor detected! So you are stuck with Basic Display Adapter Drivers

I had a look at the specs and it says "Integrated Intel? HD Graphics" which isn't helpful as there are different models of the Integrated Intel? HD Graphics

I've recently got a new computer laptop with Windows 7 and the first thing I noticed that the screen is much brighter (and maybe more saturated) than my previous laptop (with Windows XP). First I thought it was my laptop, but then I saw an other computer with Windows 7, and the screen there is very bright too. I searched the net and I see that there are more people complaining about the brightness on Windows 7.
I understand that I can set the screen brightness, but it seems like a fact that the "default" brightness on Windows 7 is way brighter than on Windows XP. Some people are probably accustomed to this, but to me it's too much. I can decrease the brightness with the laptopl's controls on the keyboard, but I think that's not the way to go - I think I should look at the Windows 7 configuration. I could go to the ATI Catalyst, but is there an other way? Is the Calibration tool the only option?

And the second question, if this is a common problem, maybe there are some known settings that would take Windows 7 brightness closer to Windows XP and earlier versions?

A:Adjusting Windows 7 brightness - what's the best way?

If these are new laptops then, yes they will be brighter then older computers. But it has nothing to do with Windows. It has to do with the display themselves. A lot of the new LCDs on modern laptops are brighter quite a bit brighter then previous generations in part, moving to LEDs for the backlight.

I have a NIVIDIA RIVA TNT2 MODEL 64P monitor with Windows XP installed. The brightness, color etc. on the monitor seem to be at the max but all images/pictures/movie files etc are very dark. Is there any other way to adjust the brightness on the monitor?

A:Adjusting Monitor Brightness

I think that's just your video card type. If your monitor is old and this has been gradually getting worse then it could be going. You can usually adjust the brightness with your video card settings.

Right click desktop, choose properties, settings, advanced. You may have to try a few of the tabs to find the controls.

First of all, please specify maker and model of your laptop. Some vendors could have their own third party replacements for some functions.

Also, please go to Control Panel - Power Options - on the right side of your current active power plan select "Change plan settings" - in the next window click "Change ADVANCED power settings" - then navigate to - Display - Display brightness and check percentage.

The slider is stuck beyond a point and the brightness does not change regardless (it is stuck at the highest setting). How do I fix this issue? Is this is a driver issue? I have tried to find previous versions of the Intel HD Graphics 4000 Driver on the Asus website but only find the one I am using. What should I do? This is urgent!

Hi everyone, I have a pretty weird tech problem.

What happens is, whenever I adjust my monitor's brightness (from its physical buttons) the screen turns black. However the monitor is still on, the LED is still green and the computer is still responsive, the screen just turns black.

I can use the computer just fine, as long as I don't try to adjust anything. If I do want to change something, I have to change the values a little, then restart, change them again, restart until I have the values I want. This problem appeared when I tried to adjust the brightness by keeping the + button pressed down, so it increased quickly.

Is this indicative of a dying monitor ? It is pretty old, it's an LG L1750SQ, 17 inch LCD, it's over 4 years old. Also, I do not believe the video card to the problem, since it stays pretty cool, it has a good heatsink on it.

A:Video Brightness Control

Try going to Display Properties in the Control Panel and click on the advanced settings buttons. Most manufacturer's drivers have color and brightness controls for the card that stay put when changed. If it's just the players that are too dark, look for an "overlay" adjustment. If you don't see those settings, look for an updated driver for your graphics card.

I was also forced to buy a new power supply as my old one could not support the new card, I went with a corsair TX 750w because it had extremely good reviews on newegg. That's it. I don't need a complex piece of software here. That's all I need it for. Yeah, I know how to use Google, but it just keeps leading me in circles. (Mostly to sites for "free" software that actually require paid activation to use.)

Beginning today, I opened my laptop from sleep and noticed the display was at its lowest brightness setting. I then tried to restart it to see if that would solve it, no luck. I did some googling and found out it could be a problem with the graphics driver. I then disabled it and enabled it. Now the brightness is at its max settings.

The function (FN) + F4, F5 (the keys to adjust the brightness settings) do nothing. The brightness status will show up on the screen and only change 1 or 2 notches.

I then realized I should have a way to adjust the brightness via the Power Settings in the Control Panel. I even confirmed this with a friend. I should have the sliders to adjust the brightness but I do not. It's very strange.

HP Notebook - TOUCH, ENERGY STARModel #: 15-ac113clWindows 10, 64-bit As of the last couple of days, my laptop's brightness has seemingly been changing by itself. It's been increasing so much that it almost looks like it's in grayscale. The brightness fluctuates every 3-4 seconds or so, becoming extremely bright, and then slowly returning to normal. This happens both while the laptop is plugged in, and when it is not.  I have Googled this using every phrasing I could possibly think of, and have yet to find anyone else with my same problem. I have seen some forum posts about fluctuating brightness, but the responses all said to either disable Adaptive Brightness, or to disable Power Saving Technology in the Intel HD Graphics control panel. In my case, both of these settings were already disabled. I have downloaded both a new screen saver and a new Chrome extension in the last few days, and I removed them both, thinking that one of them HAD to be the cause of this problem - no such luck.  Some comments I've seen have suggested that it might be the battery. For context, I sent my laptop in for repair about 2 months ago and they replaced the battery, repaired the charging port, and sent a new charger cord. I've had no issues with any of the replacement parts. Also, I've done 2 battery tests in the last ~48 hours; the first said everything was fine, and the second said that the battery was functioning properly but needs to be calibrated, whi... Read more

Its still in the same place, however the options there only reflect those that are available on the graphics adapter you are using.

Do you have the right drivers? Default Windows drivers probably don't give you the options but if there is a manufacturers driver available it may.

I have had my laptop for nearly half a year now and I just recently found an HDMI cable in an old junk box that can be connected from my widescreen Samsung DLP to my Laptop. The problem is that when I set my TV to be the main display the task bar does not fit on screen and I can barely see it. Another problem is when I play my games or watch videos they also appear to be bigger then what my screen is. I cant even see the exit or minus button when I make my windows/browsers in full screen. I have tried changing the screen resolution, but that doesn't work either. I then thought it might be my TV but it does not give my the option to change its aspect ratio.

I there solution to my little problem? Like a download or a program that is naturally in the computer that can adjust the aspect ratio (not resolution) manually for extended displays? And the resolution is on its recommended settings by the way.

What is the graphics card on your laptop? Both AMD and nVidia cards have overscan options in their software which should give you the capability to adjust your display size manually until it fits. Also check that you're outputting the correct resolution for your TV.

http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en

it also works with most keyboards

Hallo
I work on a WinXP computer using it mostly as typewriter. Till now my monitor was a 17? LG Flatron but it crashed and I replaced it with a monitor from a secondary system, a Dell 24?.
However the area of this one is quite different and I have a problem with writing and editing the written material.
I tried to adjust the resolution, but the only resolution somewhat similar to the old format is 1080x1920 and the font is so small that prevents normal working.
I tried to buy a 3x4 monitor but such are no more available in the stores.
Is there a possibility to adjust the looong 24? monitor to some more convenient form.
Please advise
Thanks

Were there ever? Do you perhaps mean the old standard 4:3 aspect ratio? If so, see these on Amazon.

A few months ago I upgraded to windows 10 and it went surprisingly well.  After a month or so my microphone started auto adjusting when opening games to 11. It happens on 75% of the games I have. I am by no means a pro at computers but I know my way around.  I have done everything you can find on the first 5 pages of a google search for mic auto adjusting.  For the life of me I can not figure out why this keeps happening.  I can literally watch my microphone volume go from 100 to 11 as a game loads up. I'm at a complete loss and am ready to buy a new sound card just to see if this will go away.

-Happens with or without microphone boost.
-I have all other recording devices disabled.
-I have "Allow applications to take exclusive control" off.
-In the communications tab I have it set to do nothing.
-It stays at 100 when opening vent/discord/teamspeak.
-I'm using a detachable mic from a creative fatality headset using a female to male 3.5mm adapter into my asus xonar dg.
-I reinstalled audio drivers several times.

I have recently upgraded hardware on my desktop. The major change is that I installed a new Solid State Drive as my drive C:. I think I also read somewhere that these drives "don't like" being written on too much and that one needs to enable/disable certain OS features for such drives.

So I checked the properties for the drive C in Windows 8 and here's what I got:

As you see "Allow files on this drive to have contents indexed in addition to file properties" is checked.

Does it need to be checked for that drive?

And also, is there anything else that I need to change in the settings to accommodate for the SSD?

Hello dc2000,

I personally have opted to uncheck that option because the inherent speed of the SSD is adequate for searches without the need for indexing (which runs as a background process). You can uncheck it but be aware that your SSD will take off like a shot and unindex everthing it has indexed thus far (takes a bit of time to complete). Now, as far as optimizing the SSD, there are plenty of tutorials but the only other option that I recommend is to turn off defrag on a scheduled basis. Windows 8 has an inherent function called TRIMS and that is all that is needed to keep you SSD running smoothly. The other stuff, like turning off super-fetch, etc, I don't even bother with. Good luck.

I can set my last columns to adjust with the width of the browser so the appearance of my page will be uniform with any browser size. Can this be done with the last row as well, so in instances where my page info is minimal, the last row will span all the way to the bottom of the browser?

Thank you.

P.S. If this thread is more appropriate in the Web & Email section, please move it.

Is it possible to adjust the volume by using keyboard keys? So instead of going to "volume control" , I just press a key to adjust the volume.
Without installing any extra programs...
