Inspiron N5051 no Wifi + Dell System Detect does not work on Windows 7 64bit

Q: Inspiron N5051 no Wifi + Dell System Detect does not work on Windows 7 64bit

Hi, I've just reformatted my Inspiron N5010 laptop, reinstalled WIndows 7 and now my Wifi doesnt work. Been trolling through the web I believe the issue here is with the driver as the attachment in Device Manager. I tried clicking on Software Update but it could not find the anything online. I tried to use Dell System Detect but it says format issue until I found a post in this forum stating to install Microsoft Net Framework. Title of post is Dell System Detect (DSD) launch error. It seems to have installed but when I run DSD nothing pops up. I was hoping DSD can help me identify the right driver. Can someone please help me with DSD, or maybe help me identify the right driver required? I hope I'm on the right track to resolve the WIfi issue.

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I just reinstalled Vista with the factory Reinstallation DVD that came with the computer (Dell Inspiron 1525) and now I can't get the WI-FI to work. "Network adapters" does not appear in the Device Manager. From what I've read, it seems as though I need to install the wireless/WIFI drivers, but there are three problems: 1) The Dell support site with the drivers doesn't seem to be working (please provide direct link if you can get a working one. 2) I don't know EXACTLY what drivers to download. 3) I don't know how to install the drivers once downloaded (from what I've read, it's apparently not as simple as just double-clicking and installing.

Your help would be greatly appreciated, as this is my cousin's computer that I'm helping him with.

Configuration: Dell Inspiron 1525

There is a service tag # on the Dell computer that should take you to the correct drivers.

The laptop was used 2 hours before the wifi adapter suddenly went "missing", as in no wifi driver is shown in the Device Manager list, and when I try to install the driver, the installation was unsuccessful due to absence of hardware.
Now, this laptop was bought 3 years ago, and this problem reoccurred a few times, each time it just magically fixed itself after a couple of days. The problem usually happens after having carried the computer outside during bus ride, so I'm guessing the hardware component somehow got shaken out of place?
What should I do now to fix the problem ASAP? Thank you!

Dell System Detect: Common Questions
For more information about the recent issue reported related to Dell System Detect (DSD), refer below.

November 23, 2015
Description: Dell System Detect application and its DSDTestProvider root certificate had similar characteristics to eDellRoot certificate that was installed on Dell PC's. With Dell System Detect (DSD), the customer downloads the software proactively to interact with the Dell Support website so we can provide a better and more personalized support experience. The support certificate in question was designed to make it faster and easier for our customers to get support. The certificate unintentionally introduced a security vulnerability.
The application was removed from the Dell Support site immediately and a replacement application without the certificate is now available. We are proactively pushing a software update to address the issue and have provided instructions to remove this certificate.
Impact: The impact is limited to customers who used the "detect product" functionality on our support site between Oct. 20 and Nov. 24, 2015.

I've been working through some older threads on here and other information across the internet and it seems I have a relatively common problem with a number of solutions.

My Dell XPS M1330 with Windows 7 Profressional (64 bit) can't detect a second monitor. I suspect its because my video card wasn't updated when I installed Windows 7 after previously running Vista.

For what its worth I'm trying to connect with a HDMI to DVI cable.

Now I'm not positive how to move forward and this is where I'm looking for help.

My Standard Vga Graphics Adapter is supposedly up to date - so what to do next?

I came across an array of driver updates via Dell

but don't know how to move forward.

I'd love some help...many thanks.

A:Can't Detect Second Monitor - Dell m1330 Windows 7 64bit

I'm also a little confused because I came across this statement:

Standard vga graphics adapter in Windows just means that the video card is not automatically detected in Windows. You must locate the correct drivers from the video card manufacturer, if one exists.

Am I right that a Standard Vga Graphics Adapter is a default driver installed with Windows 7?

If so, how would I go about finding an upgraded driver that would enable me to use dual monitors?

I have recently upgraded to windows 10 and everything seems file except one problem I am facing which is the wifi card connectivity issues. My connection to router drops very frequently, curently the generic driver which windows think is appropriate is installed. I wanted to undate that with Dell's driver which I can't find on driver download section. 64 bit WiFi driver is NOT there. 32 Bit driver is but that won't install on my machine.
Can someone from Dell help? either to give me the link for correct driver download or confirm driver is not available in which case I would need to downgrade to windwos 8 as the system is unusable in its current state.

A:Dell Inspiron 15R 7520 SE - Windows 10 64 Bit WiFi Driver not available on Dell Site

On the Drivers & Download pages for the Inspiron 15R 7520 there are only 64-bit options for Windows, whether 8.0,8.1, or 10.   So those drivers are the ones for the 64-bit version of Windows 10, as long as you filter the operating system option to Windows 10 64-bit.
The file name may state "Win32" but if you click on the "View Details" link, and then check "Supported Operating Systems" near the bottom of the page you'll find that the driver supports both 32-bit and 64-bit versions.
You don't mention which wireless card you have in that system so I can't link directly to the specific driver.  Which card do you have and what error are you getting when trying to install the drvier?
I would also recommend updating the firmware on your router.  Many routers need an update to be able to handle Windows 10 specific drivers and cards reliably.   What router brand and model are you connecting to?  And do you have problems with all routers or just this one.
Lastly, here is a link to the Dell Networking & Wireless Support Center.  You will find a few support articles in there that may be of help to you.
Let me know which card you have and when the last time you updated your router and, if you can't get the connection to work, I'll see what else I can suggest to help you.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5720. When I have Windows 10 installed on internal hard drive in primary slot,
wifi works fine.
I need to have multiple OS. So I add a mSATA 128 GB, an SATA SSD on HDD primary slot, and an SATA SSD  on DVD slot. Now I have Windows 10 installed on mSATA drive, Linux installed on primary slot, and another Linux installation on DVD slot SSD.
Now I have a problem with Windows 10 installed on mSATA SSD. The wi-fi does not work, although the gigabit network interface works fine. I see wi-fi card is recognized in Windows 10 device manager, and function properly. But it shows wi-fi tuned off. Even I go to control panel to turn on wi-fi, it won't actually turn on, and eventually shows wi-fi turned off.
I also notice that in Linux, I can not turn on wi-fi either. When there was no mSATA card, and no SSD drive in DVD slot, I had Linux installed on promary slot SSD, the wi-fi was working also.
So I think there may be a hardware conflict somewhere when I have a mSATA, a primary SSD, and a 2nd SSD in DVD slot.

120$? to fix a driver issue? That is extortion in my eyes lol.

Anyway I had a quick look on the dell support site and found there are 3 different models for Dell Inspiron 14z Could you tell me which one it is? Also try navigating to the driver downloads page and downloading the wireless network drivers for your model and installing them. Pic Attached

Had a look at the drivers on each of the models and they only seem to support 64bit Versions of Windows 7 & 8, Do you know if you have 32bit or 64bit edition of windows 8? If you have 32bit then the drivers for the hardware probably wont work.

If you don't you can check it by following this easy guide (I would walk you through it but I havent used windows 8 yet) http://pcsupport.about.com/od/windows-8/a/windows-8-64-bit-32-bit.htm

Since I originally installed Windows 10 Professional on my XPS 8700 in July 2015 Dell System Detect has been failing to run properly.  Although it downloads to my PC and all indications are that the software is running just fine on my PC, attempting to detect my system on the Dell support website invariably returns the message “Running Dell System Detect,  Download failure.  An error occurred while downloading Dell System Detect. Cancel or Retry.”
Now, Dell System Detect always ran fine on my PC under Win 7 Ultimate and Win 8.1 Professional x64 versions.  It is only since installing Windows 10 Professional that I have encountered this error.  Following the Windows 10 Anniversary fiasco I was encountering so many problems that I attempted to use Dell Support.  Once again attempting to detect my system resulted in the message “Running Dell System Detect,  Download failure.  An error occurred while downloading Dell System Detect. Cancel or Retry.”
With sheer multitude of problems I was experiencing from the Anniversary update, I finally resorted to a clean install of Win 10 Pro, which fortunately resolved all of the problems I had been encountering.  Out of curiosity, I downloaded and installed Dell System Detect Ver; once again it appeared to download and run without problems.  And once again, as soon as it finished installing the Dell website reported  “Download failure. Hi all.
I posted on the Windows 7 forums a short while ago: absolutely great feedback there - helped me create a Windows 7 and 10 ISO for some old computers we have.
We now have three PC's working: 1 new tower (windows 10) and two old DELL laptops, both of which where on their last legs!
One of them (this Dell Inspiron 5030N) was my daughters old one from several years ago. I was very close to sending it to recycling as it was barely responsive towards the end. However, my younger boy has started to 'play' on computers and I thought it might be a good idea to see if I could somehow make it just about usable.
To cut a long story short, I created a Windows 10 ISO and completely refreshed the machine. Suprisingly it works rather well (btw - I had to reflash the BIOS to A02 - similar to the other DELL I 'brought back to life').
The only issue is the internal wifi adapter: this runs quite slow - same with the other DELL laptop. I purchased a TP link TL WN823N and that works a treat (we use another one for the new PC tower). Yesterday I tried it in this DELL 5030 machine and again, worked a treat (from 65mps to the 144mps speeds the other machines have).
Youtube videos stall at this speed on this machine, hence me wanting to bump the speed up.
The internal wifi is named as Qualcomm.

However, since that first attempt, the laptop lost the recognition of it and it simply will not reconnect to the laptop.
I've installed (and reinstalled etc) the TP link official drivers (from bot... Read more

I just reformatted an old Dell Inspiron 5100 with XP SP3.
All drivers are installed and there are no exclamation marks in the Driver Manager.

The network card is a Broadcom 440x 10/100 Integrated Controller.
When I connect my network cable to the machine it doesnt not detect the connection. I tried the same cable in another computer and it is working fine so I know that there is a connection, however, in this machines it does not detect it.

Any ideas on this issue or how to identify the problem?

A:Does not detect network connection in Dell Inspiron 5100

You've confirmed that the network adapter driver is installed and the network adapter is working properly, and you've confirmed that the CAT5 cable isn't bad, so neither of those is the problem.

Try resetting the cable modem and then restarting the computer.

My Dell Inspiron won't connect to the internet via WI-Fi. But all other devices connect to it just fine.
I can only get access to the internet using an Ethernet cable.

I had this problem before, but it just magically solved itself after about 20 minutes of not doing anything. But it's been a whole day now, and nothing seems to work.

When I go on device manager, under Network adapter, it only lists one:
Realtek PCIe FE Family Controller
And there's no exclamation mark or anything beside it.

I've tried:
-Restarting the computer
-System restore
-Restarting router
-System BIOS boot (A Dell representative walked me through the process)
-Download and installed wireless network driver adapters from Dell support page
-In device manager, tried to 'Scan for hardware changes'

Any help would be greatly appreciated in solving this mystery!

I apologize if this has been posted before, I tried searching but couldn't find it.

About 3 weeks ago, my Dell Inspiron 600m running Windows XP Pro (32 bit) suddenly became unable to detect wireless networks in the area. I have a standard integrated wireless card (Intel PRO/Wireless 2200BG) and all signs show that it is working properly, only it won't detect wireless networks that are clearly available.

Also, when I go into Wireless Network Connection Properties and hit "Configure" next to my wireless card, I get a pop-up notification stating "Adapter state not found in registry." I don't remember seeing this message in the past, but I can't really say when it started happening.

I have tried various networks in various locations, it doesn't detect anything. I have an updated driver (w29n51.sys & Netw2c32.dll) , I tried using system restore to roll back to before the problem began, no luck.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Would any of you please tell me where to find the proper 64-bit drivers to use on a Dell Inspiron 531S?

The official Dell website does not share drivers for that edition of XP. My computer came with Ubuntu pre-installed. Please help me get the right drivers XP Pro (64-bit).

The only reason why I'm searching for 64-bit drivers for XP is because I have no interest in using Windows Vista or any 32-bit operating systems from Microsoft. Like I mentioned before, the Dell website is not offering the proper drivers I need for this computer and the Windows XP (64-bit).

I've read articles about getting 64-bit drivers to work on that computer, but I haven't found any website that offers the same drivers. I'm basically on my own, according to this Dell expert (see below). That person told me about the drivers without sharing 1 single link to download the 64-bit drivers (or chipset) for XP, which he/she mentioned:
Dell does not support 64 bit in that model and the reason there are no drivers. You are basically "on your own" to try and find suitable drivers.

However, if you installed the Chipset drivers, Windows should either install a generic driver or find suitable drivers.

The correct install sequence is (1) Install Windows (2) Install chipset driver (3) Install Device Drivers.

On Intel systems the chipset drivers define what is on or attached to the motherboard. I assume the AMD drivers do the same thing.Click to expand...

A:Dell site won't help me. How do you get XP Pro (64bit) to work on Dell 531S?

Hi there

The very best database for drivers is DriverGuide.com . You need to create a free account to gain access.

What the tech suggested was installing enough drivers to get your networking to work and then letting Windows find all the missing drivers automatically using the now working internet by selecting the option "search for drivers automatically" when installing the devices through the add/remove hardware applet in the Control Panel.

A:Windows 7 System Disk for a Dell Inspiron

Hello OffAndOnAgain and welcome to TSF,

If you didn't remove the hidden recovery partition, you can restore your PC using that. Depending on what Dell machine you have, you can either restore with backup discs or with a built in startup command. Use one of the methods below:

1. Download/Buy a recovery disc here.
2. Press CTRL + F11 during bootup, choose to restore the system.

I bought a Dell N5110 last month but about 2 weeks ago, the USB port to the right side stopped working completely. And just today i noticed the USB port at the back has also stopped working. I now only have the left side port working and fear that may seize to work soon.
When i go to the device manager and click on "Other devices" i have this device in list  "Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller" One of which have a yellow error icon of some sort. When i double click either of them this is the message i get:
The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28) &There is no driver selected for the device information set or element,To find a driver for this device, click Update Driver.
I have tried searching for drivers for them but i can't find them anywhere on the dell site. I found someone else who requested these drivers on another post and tried to click the links but it takes me to a blank page. Please help?

So, I just installed Vista Business 64 bit on my Dell Inspiron 6400. However, I didn't realize that Dell didn't have any drivers for 64bit Vista. Can someone help me out? I know a lot of people have been having this issue as it's all over Google searches I have made, but I can't seem to find any recommendations on what I should do to fix the problem. Can someone point me where I need to go please to get these drivers? Mainly I just need the touchpad drivers and ATI mobility drivers. I tried the touchpad drivers from the synaptics website, but they didn't install for some reason and ATI does not release any 64bit mobility drivers yet, they say you should get them from the manufacturer of the laptop. Help?

A:Vista Business 64bit drivers for Dell Inspiron

Ok nevermind, I found a hacked up 7.10 driver that works for the mobility cards and figured out how to get the synaptic pad driver to work. Not sure what the problem was with it but it all works now. Thanks anyway guys. I'm sure I'll be back with more questions since I'm sure there will be plenty with this new OS.

i just formatted and clean installed Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit and everything runs just fine, did all updates and the computer runs great, but i cannot get the video card drivers to work or the ATI Catalyst Control Center to "work" right. It keeps saying that it installed the drivers and everything works but the display does not have the Aero capability...its just annoying. Im not sure if he even cares if it has the Aero option, but i have OCD...so it has to be done right...

I was recently given a Dell Inspiron E1505 laptop with windows XP Media Center Edition as a gift. I am very grateful for the gift as a single mother of two in college. The only problem is, that this computer has been a problem since the first time I turned it on. It constantly had to suddenly shut windows down and kept telling me to run CHKDSK/F and restart. It never would work till today. After the computer restarted now every time I try to turn it on it first goes to a boot menu asking to start in safe mode, a few others and start windows normally, and then no matter what I choose the entire screen goes blue and says "A problem has been detected and windows has been shut down to prevent damage to your computer." and some more about disabling antivirus and back up utilities and to run CHKDSK/F but the screen never changes and I can't do anything. I am hoping this can be fixed, even though the computer has been a pain, I have to have it for school and will be devastated without it. If someone out there can help me fix my computer I will be so grateful.

Hi All,

I having a problem with this laptop that when I go the search screen, it shows the puppy dog, and I can make the tail wag, but it doesn't show any options to search for anything.

System restore will start up and it's blank. Same sort of thing.

Windows updates, also goes blank when I run it (I can do them manually).

When I go to look at user accounts, it's blank too.

I ran Spybot S&D on it, and it seems okay.

A:Dell Inspiron 6400 won't allow searching,system restore, windows updates

click start, run, type cmd, typed sfc /scannow. You will need you xp cd for this if it finds any errors. If that doesn't solve the issue post back.

I have a Dell Inspiron 5721 running Win7 home premium 64bit SP1 - 3rd Gen i7-3537U proc

I'm trying to save a System Image and transfer it to a

Dell Inspiron 5748 that is running Win 8.1 - 4th Gen i7-4510U proc.

The 5748 had Win7 HP64bit SP1 loaded on it, but I lost it due to an unsuccessful
attempt to load a Sys Image into it.
[I didn't know my last success doing this was because I had identical computers]

And the 5748 only came with Win 8.1 Disk, which I loaded to see if i could live with it, but I can't.
[Too many legacy programs that won't run in 8.1]

Dell did send me the Sys7 Disk and license code for the 5748, if that would help at any stage.

I've read a lot on the forums about Sysprep, OOBE and Generalizing and Audit Mode and I'm not clear which tutorial i should use to get this to work? I believe I need to reconfig the BIOS in some ways too?
I also have downloaded all suggested drivers from Dell and have them on a USB drive.

Thanks in advance for any help. From my browsing this looks like a pretty amazing forum.

A:Install sys image Win7 home prem 64bit in Dell Inspiron 5748

I'm not sure I follow you, but:

You aren't likely to get away with moving a Windows installation from Inspiron 5721 to some other machine, Inspiron 5748 or not. That would violate the license terms, let alone whatever other issues you might run into--different drivers, different chipsets, different Intel generations, etc.

Is that what you have in mind?

Or do you in fact have another Windows 7 license that you want to put on the 5748?

You say "Dell did send me the Sys7 Disk and license code". For which machine?

I have a Dell Insprion 15-r running Win7 Home Premium 64bit, 6gb ram i3 chip w/ Crucial 250Gb SSD. When I turn on the laptop and boots up very quickly but then I have to wait a few minutes for the wifi to connect. What I see is limited access and the little yellow dot on the signal strength bar.

I using Zone Alarm paid version which I have also turned off to see if that had anything to do with and it it did not. Also went into MSCONFIG and disabled all the items under startup and no change.

Next I went the network and sharing center and switched ffom public place to home (I use the laptop at home) , restarted it and still the same issue.

When connected my speeds are fine ( I have not run a speed test but I have no problem watching Netfilx) also no problem downloading, so I suspect that that is not the issue.

My WIFI is with AT&T Uverse.

Any ideas????

Hi guys

I have a Dell Inspiron, 4gb, 64bit. Windows Vista, home premium.

First issue;
The system would freeze and flash and turn off at the slightest flick, such as a slight tap on the keyboard.

Second issue;
I took it apart for a clean, and thermal paste renewal, once I put it all together, I tested it and still the exact same, but now it's developed a NEW problem...I ran it all night without an issue, the next morning I turned it on and there was a problem... The screen wouldn't turn on, no back lights, not even the slightest suggestion the screen was on. Completely dead.

I took the power button section out, turned it on, worked perfectly, put it back on, back to square one.

Then I removed the keyboard plastic surrounding, and it worked fine, then put it all back together and same problem...

It's completely free from any virus. The laptop is using a 65w charger when it should be using a 90w charger, (not my laptop).

I've received the follow message a few times; "timer chip counter 2 failed" Explanations?

The screen is my main issue at the moment, it's on with no pressure, then off with pressure.

Thanks for your time

i have a dell inspiron 14r...the wifi hotkey is f2....this doesnt work too well especially since i do online gaming that requires using the number buttons close to it...causing me to accidentally hit it from time to time....my question is can i disable this hotkey or change which button does the hotkey? cuz this is sooooo irritating...btw im running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit    any help is appreciated

A:dell inspiron wifi hotkey

Not sure why just pressing F2 turns off your WiFi typically a combination function key is needed to do so, like FN+F2. There is a quick set utility for dells that you can change settings. In the run box under start button type.. mobility center. Then from there you change the function keys to multimedia that might help.
