Preferred Solution: replace touch display with non-touch display

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hi, You don't need to spend money to swap. Please try the following steps to disable touchscreen. First, go to the device the manager by opening the "Charm Menu" and search for "Device Manager." If you don't see it, change the search filter to "Settings."Once in the Device Manager, expand "Tab." Then find "Human Interface Devices" and expand it.You should see several "HID-compliant device" listings. Some PCs will call it an HID-Compliant Touch Screen, but yours may vary?if you don't have a touch screen option, you may have to try each HID Compliant ____ until one works. When asked if you want to disable the device, select "yes." That's it! The touch screen on your Windows 8 device should be disabled.   You can turn back on any time. Regards.

Hello all, I have HP ENVY 15T AE000 CTO (Touch) laptop. Mine is working just fine but since its now out of warranty period I was thinking of upgrading the display on the laptop. Currently I have 1366x768 resolution display. I want to upgrade it to the 1920x1080 (FHD) display. I have referred the manual for my laptop and found that the part number for the display 812690-001 for the FHD screen.I checked on the hp parts website but this one costs almost $500. Is there any alternative for this? and most importantly can I do it? I have replaced parts on the laptop before so getting this done with the instructions won't be an issue. The issue is the price of the parts. Is there any other cheaper option for 1920x1080p matte display?I would really appreciate some help.

I have Dell Inspiron 5547 laptop (Touch Screen, 15 inches, 16 GB RAM and i7 4th Gen processor, Out of Warranty). Some days back, suddenly the display went dim and anything is hardly visible. After some initial investigation, the display chip (may be VGA or LED display chip) on the motherboard appears to be burnt out (may be due to voltage surge). Even the numbers printed on the chip is not readable because of which it is difficult for the local repairing shops to repair this problem.
I think Dell India Service Center doesn't deal with chip level repair and hence replacing motherboard is the only way they can fix this. This will be very costly (considering that the laptop is not under warranty so will have to pay for warranty extension, motherboard replacement and repair service) and time consuming.
Hence, to avoid all this I have come here to seek some assistance.
If there are anyone using the same laptop (Inspiron 5000 series 5547 Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM) then could you please take a clear picture of your laptop's motherboard or if you recognize the display chip then only that should be sufficient. In this case, I can read the chip related number from the image and try to repair it.
What are the charges for buying a warranty for the laptop, motherboard of my laptop and repairing charge?

Request your response and help.

Regards,
Rohit Kumar

A:Display Issue - Dim Display for Dell Inspiron 5000 (Model 5547) - Touch Screen Display with i7 4th Gen Processor and 16 GB RAM

You'll have to call Dell about the possibility of a warranty extension;  in the US, it's sometimes possible but will likely run over $300 -- or about what a board replacement would cost.
If you're getting video, the GPU is OK -- and it's more likely the power circuit to the backlight that's bad.  It'll likely cost as much to repair as to replace the board -- though you'll still be putting $300-400 into an out of warranty system, so replacing the system may be a better idea (if you do this, consider buying a 3-year warranty with the next system).

I have this funny problem:
- I hate silver/light gray finish of non-touch e7440 but prefer it's matte screen over glossy touch screen.
- I like visuals of E7440 touch with it's dark grey and carbon.

Therefore I plan to buy e7440 touch and if I won't be happy with the glossy screen, I would like to retro-fit a standard non-touch matte screen. Is it possible (screen back lids are the same in case of touch and non-touch models) or are there some physical differences between the screens and carbon/non-carbon lids?

A:E7440 touch - can I retro-fit non-touch matte display?

The parts won't interchange between the touch and non-touch screens, no.  They are indeed different.

The display is plugged in and touch is registered - except the touch registered on another monitor, not the S230tm. I have two build-in touch displays on my device (it's a HP Sprout Pro), and the S230tm is a third screen. However, the touch from the S230tm gets registered on the first/main display. The first displays still works correctly with full touch functionality. The location and interaction is correct , it's just the display that is wrong - I can drag and click items on my FIRST monitor by touching the THIRD monitor. I found that some have used Tablet PC settings to configure the correct monitor, but... I can't successfully touch the display when the "touch display" message comes up on the S230tm as the touch is clearly registered on the first display. I've updated the driver from the original 1.0.0 to the recommended 2.0.0RevA, and moving around different USB connectors, to no avail.

I recently bought a 2nd hand ThinkPad x250 with pretty low specs. I want to investigate the possibility to upgrade the screen from the IPS Non-Touch HD to a FHD touchscreen. At many places I read it is not possible because 'the motherboard is different', but I cannot find any motherboard with or without touch support. I suspect that it's not the motherboard itself not supporting the digitizer, but some other part that needs to be replaced or added to the system. Is it an option to buy a working complete X240 with touchscreen and swap components to move the touchscreen to the X250? I don't want to swap the motherboard itself because then I basically end up with a X240 in a X250 housing with only 8GB Ram support, and I want to upgrade to 16GB.

So I have got a Lenovo Y50-70 with 15.6" 3840x2160 UHD Touch Display for about two years now. I've accidentaly dropped my backpack, while the laptop was in it and cracked it's screen so I need to replace it. The screen in the cracked part is working as it was working before the accident, the crack is on the glass. So I was wondering if I can replace my 15.6" 3840x2160 UHD Touch Display with a 15.6" 1920x1080 FHD Non-touch Display? Is it possible?I've read that whether screen you are changing, its working depends on the quantity of pins on the Video signal connector.

I have an Envy 23 that was touch/pen capable until only a few days ago.  It now shows "no pen or touch available for this display."  The HID compliant for touchscreen is hidden and cannot install, update, or rollback driver because the hardware is not connected.  I have attempted to rollback Window updates, install Window updates (all), restore to an earlier time when the PC was working with touchscreen, update and rollback drivers, reboot to the manufacturer set up, etc.  I would attempt to calibrate except there is no option for that.  Many of the suggestions require steps that are no longer found on the PC.The onscreen keyboard has even disappeared.   The only suggestions I can find from forums, web searches, and the customer care number is to winkey + X and update the driver in the HID --- No possible since it cannot find the hardware or hardware is not connected.  What hardware?  It is not in the hardware recovery, reboot, search of PC, and I did not buy this separate.  I have looked for calibration options but they do not exist on the PC as far as I can find.I have looked on HP's site for the driver(s) or other options and nothing. Is there a way to get the touchscreen driver, hardware, or whatever is needed fixed?  I purchased this specific for the touchscreen and to lose it kind of defeats the purpose of having it.Thanks

Hello, I recently bought a HP Envy M7 Smart Touch Energy Saver laptop, after a month of using it I just became so irritated by Windows 10 constantly freezing or apps crashing (due to compatibility).  So I Installed Windows 8.1 In order to maintain the touch screen interface in the laptop, after I installed windows 8.1 I downloaded all of the drivers available for my Laptop, after updating every single aspect, my Windows System Information states "No Pen or Touch Input", I cannot seem to find any touch screen drivers in the HP website and there are some drivers in Device Manager with an exclamation mark as "Unknown Devices", I've enabled view hidden devices and there's no sign of any touch screen driver. I made a component test in UFI to see if there was a faulty with the touch screen and there's not, it's just a driver compatibility issue. Any help? Please and thank you

I have been using Macs over the past few years and the screen brightness of the P50 concerns me a bit (My 2012 Macbook Air has 354 nits). And the touch display is even a notch dimmer.  - FHD (1920 x 1080) IPS, 300 nits- FHD Touch (1920 x 1080) IPS, 270 nits How happy are you with your touch display? (brightness, colors). Or would you recommend sticking with the non-touch FHD display?

Can the Dell XPS 15 9550 w/ 4K Touch Display be configured with both a PCIe SSD and a 2.5" drive?  Dell Chat Support says "yes", but I have also read that the 4K Touch Display requires the 84WHr battery which extends to fill the space of the 2.5" drive. At 4:44, in the YouTube video below, I think we see that there is no room for a 2.5" drive. But, maybe Dell has a different model option that supports 4K Touch and dual HDD. This question has probably been posted before, but I didn't find by searching.

A:Dual HDD in XPS 15 9550 w/ 4K Touch Display

If you want the UHD screen, the larger 84 W-Hr battery is mandatory - you do indeed lose the 2.5" drive bay.  The only way to increase internal storage in this model is with a larger capacity M.2 PCIe/NVMe drive.

I just upgraded to Windows 7 Home Premium (x64).
I have two monitors: a 24" Dell 2407WFP-HC, which is just a standard, non-touch monitor, and a Wacom Cintiq 21UX, which is a pen-enabled display.
I've got two issues, which may be related.
The Wacom is pressure-sensitive, but in Photoshop the pressure-sensitivity isn't registering. The lightest press creates a line with the same thickness as the heaviest press.
Also, every press results in the little swirling circle Tablet PC thing, which wasn't the case back when I was using Vista. In Vista I would get that only the first time I pressed the pen to the screen.
The problem seems specific to Photoshop, as I do get pressure-sensitivity in Corel Painter.
I'm not sure if this is the cause of the issue, but when I go into the Tablet PC Settings in the Control Panel, on the Display tab under Display Options there's a drop-down menu listing both monitors. When the Dell monitor is selected it says "Pen Input Available" and gives me a Calibrate button. If I choose the Wacom, it says "No Pen or Touch input is available for this display," and the Calibrate button is greyed out.
If I click the Setup button under Configure (still on the Display tab), both screens turn a light grey and the Dell screen shows a message saying "Tap this screen with your tablet pen to set it as the Tablet PC screen," with the option to hit enter to move the message to the other display. I do that, then tap the Wacom,... Read more

Which monitor is listed as being Pen and Touch enabled depends on which one is set as primary. Changing it didn't resolve my Photoshop problem.

Tonight I was doing work and my Lenovo U430 Touch fans all of my applications froze. The mouse and keyboard also went unresponsive. After waiting a few minutes I tried to hard reset using the power button. I tried this multiple times and the computer would not shut down, even holding the power button for up to a minute. The display still shows the time when it froze, it would not recognize when the charger was plugged in/out, or caps lock turned on/off (light under key). When plugged into HDMI nothing appeared on the TV. I can still hear the fans going a bit louder than normal. Does anyone have any suggestions? Currently waiting for the laptop to die because I cannot remove the battery (easily).  Any input or thoughts about what this could be would be appreciated.

A:DISPLAY PROBLEM Ideapad U310 Touch

Hi DILEMMA123,

Welcome to Lenovo Community!

As I understand that you are facing issues with your Ideapad U310 touch display, however when you power on the unit there is power but  no display and the screen remains black.

Here are the troubleshooting steps that you may try
Please do try these troubleshooting steps that may help. - Start by doing a hard reboot, remove the battery and unplug the AC adapter then press and hold the power button for 20 seconds then try booting it up again. - If this will not work, do test the AC adapter if it's working properly. Remove the battery and power the laptop with just the AC adapter connected and see if it will boot up or not. do also try a different AC adapter that has the same voltage and see if it will work or not. - Proceed with reseating the RAM's if trying a different AC adapter will not work, remove them all for couple of seconds then put them back in making sure everything is seated properly. - If it will still not work, connect an external monitor and see if you'll get any display from it. If there's a display on the external monitor that could mean that the problem is the built in display.  - But if there's still no display on the external monitor that means the problem lies in the motherboard.
In addition, here are further service centers that you can also check
I hope the above information helps.

Hello guys thanks for reading. Im greatly confused by this at the moment.
Today I just got a friends old HP touchsmart tx2 tablet/laptop. It came with vista home premium. The pen and touch display was working great on it, but hey, who the hell likes Vista? So I immediately installed Win 7. After the install in computer settings it wont detect the pen and touch for some reason, and the software from hp will only work once windows recognizes it.
Any ideas? It was again working perfectly on vista.
Any help would be appreciated as this is really a cool computer and it would be perfect for school if I could get the touch screen and pen going again.
Thanks,

Re: T400(s) upgrade to touch screen display?I have a non-touch version of the T400S that I am refurbishing to serve as a backup/storage computer. The LED backlight LCD has always been discolored (faulty) and I would like to replace it.Is it possible to upgrade my screen to a multitouch with FRU 75Y4761 and a digitizer when I do?I have read the (negative with no explanation) answer to a similiar question about the T400 model, which I understand to be different in a number of ways than the T400s... Is this the same for the T400s, (not possible) and if so, please tell me why not?

A:T400s upgrade to touch screen display?

You can upgrade with a full assembly, but not with a panel.  The lid, hinges, LCD cable, camera cable, panel are all different

Hello,I am having a problem with my Lenovo U430. Unfortunately for me, despite the notebook is still under factory warranty, I donīt have an official Lenovo Service in my country. So Iīll have to manage myself with this issue. The U430 starts up in a normal way but the screen wonīt work. I plug it to my LED tv with an HDMI cable, and the computer works fine, the problem is in the display. I am wondering what could the problem be, I read something about the video chip or something like that, could be failing on the motherboard. Is there anything that I can do to realise what the problem really is??? I prefer to resolve it miself rather to let anyone open up the computer and make the thing worse than they already are.I am sorry if my english isnīt the best, I think that I manage to explain myself just fine.THANKS

A:Lenovo U430 Touch Display Issue

Hi alemano ,

Welcome to the Community Forums.

If the laptop is showing display using your external TV then most likely the graphic card would be performing well since external projection of display is an advanced feature .

The problem may be the LCD or LCD cables that you can try to unplug and replug checking if there are impinged cable along the way and in the port.

Herewith is the hardware manual that can help you on the disassembly of top , bottom cover and LCD panel.
The user guide here and service training video would also be a good reference.

Take time to review the steps .
Hope this helps you in your steps.
Update us as it goes.

Regards

Hello,I have a u330 touch with broken display. When looking for parts to replace it, I stumbled upon a higher resolution screen (full HD), but I want to make sure it will work. I see the part listed as for this model, but want to make sure that the u330 touch will be able to handle the screen if I upgrade with the replacement. Thanks for the help.

Hello Community I have a ThinkPad Helix (1st Gen) N3Z6CGES running Windows 10. Bought it back in 2013.Long time i was very happy with the device. Smaller issues, no big deals.Among others: Some static Windows control buttons burnt into the screen. Therefore, in September 2017 I decided to give it to a certified dealer, before my ThinkPlus service runs out. They changed the screen and since the Helix has this new screen, I have the same problem as it is seen in this video:Lenovo Yoga 3 14 freaking around... [YouTube]Exept for my phantom touches only occure in the lower corners of the screen. Which doesn't make it any better, though.Rebooting gives me a break for a few minutes, but then it start again out of nowhere. Sadly, for some time, after the repair i haven't used the notebook at at all, so I didn't realize there is this problem.During this time, of course my ThinkPlus Service and the warranty for the device run out. But then again I needed my notebook very urgently, saw the problem and didn't have the opportunity to give it to repair again.I improvised and turned off the touch screen in the Device Manager. I could only use the digitizer, but at least i was able to work with the Helix. Few days ago there was a Windows update and i noticed that this update resetted my settings in the device manager. I was able to use the touch input completely problem-free again and felt happy like a little child, not knowing how much is missed this comfort! The problem w... Read more

Flash started to appear on my display, in circular and square format, opening various websites and options without me touching anything. I couldn`t watch a movie because jump for diferents parts all the time.I updated all drivers but nothing resolve. Reading the internet I found a similar problem, indicating that I should disable the sensors in the device manager. I disable HID - Touchscreen and Sensors. With the sensors disables the problem stopped but I lost the touch screen.

I've had a happy first year with this machine. A few days ago it all went south.  No USB mouse (is a Lenovo Wireless USB dongle thing). No Touch on the display. The Lenovo Monitor that I use it with is a touch display and the touch on that is also stopped. In device manager I see this: I've tried all the usual stuff like deleting all the bad marked devices in the device manager and restarting and nothing works. I've ran all the latest Lenovo driver updates and that makes no difference. I've tried a hard wired mouse, but that comes up in device manager as bad. They all show: The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)There are no compatible drivers for this device. HELP!Without Ext MonitorWith Ext Monitor

Hi - my E7440 touch screen went black the other day and I've been unable to get it back. There will be times when the screen turns on, functions normally, but as soon as the PC reboots on reboot its black again. I can connect it to an external monitor and it works, also the touch screen functionality still works while connected to an external monitor.
Does anyone have a suggestion on how to fix the display? I'd really like to be able to use this as an actual laptop again.
Initial research came back with Fn F8 which does not work. Suggestions greatly appreciated
thank you

Looking to buy the X1 Carbon 6th Gen with the FHD multi-touch display option, does anyone know if it uses PWM dimming for backlight.  I have a Dell touchscreen laptop (Latitude E5570) that is flicker free because it does not use PWM.  However, the Dell's keyboard is lousy compared to the thinkpads, hence looking to buy, but the PWM dimming is a bummer. Thanks in advance.

For about three months now I have been tolerating a slow but steady creep of blurred screen display from the lower horizontal edge of the touch screen up towards the top. It started about 1.5mm now it is 3mm all the way across the bottom of the screen. I've been secretly (naively) hoping this would go away with a bios update. Today's update has not fixed it.
A laptop display repair guy told me it is a hardware failure. Expensive to replace.
Is it fixable? I have no warranty. I bought this machine Dec 2015. Such a short life span for such an expensive laptop.
I hope no one else gets this after all the other troubles seen with this model. I placed a diagnostic query thingy already.
