ethernet controller exclamation mark

Q: ethernet controller exclamation mark

Im having problems wiht my "ethernet conntroller" under "other devices" in my device manager, I see a yellow exclamation next to it. Last time i formatted my machine (this one) I was able to find the driver, although it was a hassle and chase for it. My mb is a "Gigabyte EP45-DS3L". I have downloaded all kinds of drivers for it which seemed to fix another issue, but i just cant seem to get the right driver for the "ethernet controller" to get recognized. Ive installed a few "hardware detection" software programs and I was able to get the mb model at least, and if i remember correctly this boards drivers used the intel chipset but since im not online with it it wont tell me what chipset it is. For some reason I just cant find the correct drivers for this damn controller. Is this is a motherboard/hardware issue? Is this still a software fixable thing? Can someone help me out please?

Preferred Solution: ethernet controller exclamation mark

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

What "hardware detection" programs have you installed?

GA-EP45-DS3L (rev. 1.0) - GIGABYTE - Support&Download - Motherboard - Driver

Here is the driver, select the download site for LAN, the "Realtek Realtek LAN Driver," that is closest to you.

Firewall first so it's in place when you get back online. Go to Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Services and scroll to Windows Firewall/ICS. Double click the Service and change the Startup to Automatic, click Apply and OK. Restar the computer and the warning should have gone away.

As for teh ethernet adapter, it's best to post back some details of your computer - make, model, etc. and someone will know which adapter you have and where to find the driver.

Hi, I have a I MSI U135DX for some reason it all of a sudden just stopped connection to the internet wirelessly but would connect via and ethernet cable. I have researched this and and struggling to get it sorted. I have managed somehow to connect again via the ethernet cable but still no wireless connection.

In my device manage it says network controller with a yellow exclamation mark but when I try to re install or update the driver it says the driver was not installed correctly. When I go to my internet connection or to set up a internet connection it does not even show any wirless conections.

I have made sure that the wireless connection is on and have eventurned it off and on to see if it would connect but I am guessing that it is a problem with this netwprk driver.
Please could someone help as I am at a complete loss now and have tried to download drivers from the MSI website but still no luck.

Many thanks

A:Network controller with yellow exclamation mark

The driver from the MSI website should be exactly what you need. Odd it isn't working. Have you tried completely uninstalling the device from 'device manager' and then rebooting? After doing that you should be able to install the MSI one and be set....

I had a major problem with my computer and couldn't use Restore or do a Recovery. I formatted and re-installed Windows XP using my Windows XP disk. The problem is I cant get on the Internet. There are four other computers in the house, all of which can connect ok. After hours of trying to figure out the problem, and fiddling with the wires on the modem and router, I've discovered that when I look in Device Manager there is a yellow question mark with an exclamation mark against Ethernet Controller in Other Devices. When I right-click and select properties it says that the drivers are not
installed. Obviously I can't connect to Windows Update so my only option
is to install from a specific location. I've put my Windows disk in and
used the location D:\i386 and also D:\i386\system32 but it can't seem to
find the drivers. Another query is, should there be more than one entry
in Network adapters? I only have one, that being the 1394 Net Adapter. I
seem to remember another adapter being there in the past. So, if I'm on
the right path, can I download the required driver from the Internet and
copy it over, if so, can you tell me the driver file and the folder it
needs to be in. I hope that's enough information for you and look
forward to your reply. Thank you, Gary

Do you have an onboard internet connection. If so, you probably use the Realtek driver. It is found at eMachines product support. It is also found at

Look for the RealTek RTL8139/810X Network Driver, version or higher. It will be about 3.78 MB or a bit more.

It will come with installation instructions.

It is usually a very easy, and very good network connection.

Hi all. . .I searched the forums and couldn't figure out how to fix my problem. I am not very computer savvy, so please forgive me if this sounds really dumb. .

My daughter has an A22M Thinkpad with Windows 2000 Pro. We can't get the internet to work after her b/f restored it to last known good configuration. Now, there is a question mark beside the "ethernet controller", PCI Serial port, and Display adapter under the device manager.

I went to the IBM site and downloaded the drivers for Ethernet driver for Intel PRO/100 SP Mini PCI combo card and reinstalled it but that didn't work. The question mark is still showing up. Any advice on how to fix this?

Hello again.

In the device manager on my dell dimension 8300 my ethernet controller has a yellow question mark next to it.

I click on it, and i get the ethernet controller properties window. Under a section called device status I have a message saying that

I was just having a look through my pc, trying to understand things and learn more, when I went to Control Panel>Systems>Device Manager, I saw in Portable devices there was a yellow exclammation mark on MTP Device.
Firstly, what is a MTP device & why is the exclammation mark there. Can anyone explain to me in English as I'm only a beginner. You must understand I'm over 40 & Blonde!
My pc is Intel Pentium 4, Packard BellNEC P480410801. It's Windows XP.

A:Yellow exclamation mark

MTP Device, my guess would be "Media Transfer Protocol". The exclamation mark usually represents a driver that has not been successfully installed.

You can try downloading "Media Transfer Protocol Porting Kit"

MTP was first shipped as part of the Windows Media Device Manager 10 SDK. This porting kit includes the complete MTP specification, updated design documentation, updated sample source code, software to implement a PC-based MTP simulator, and MTP test tools.Click to expand...

I have a problem with my HP laptop - windows7 operating system.
When I access my wireless connections - each of them have a yellow circle with a black exclamation mark even when I am connected - a pesky exclamation mark. My computer will show several unsecure sites with 4-5 bars (but with the exclamation mark). When I try to access any of these sites - by selecting them and selecting connect - they search for the connection for approximately a minute or so - then the computer goes back to the wireless list without connecting - with no indication why. When I access my built in wireless lan card - The indication is that it is working properly.I think there is some confliction - but don't know how to repair it. I have updated drivers - I have disabled an enabled wireless connection - nothing changes. Anybody have any answers?

I am new to the forum.
I installed win xp on top of win 7 following instructions on the forum, on my Dell Inspiron 1520.
I have restored all the drivers that I have backed up (I used to have win xp before win 7, I uninstalled it but backed up the drivers before formatting the win xp drive).
Now there is no audio and the device has an exclamation mark in device properties.
Audio is working ok on Win 7.
I don't know what to do now. Any help will be appreciated.
Also, another quick question: Can win xp run the programmes installed on the win 7 partition or they need to be installed separately?

A:no audio and the device has an exclamation mark

If the audio device has an exclamation mark in Device Manager, it means that the correct audio drivers are not installed. Right click on the device and click on Update driver software. Let it go online and update the driver. If that doesnt work, identify the correct driver and download and install.
Do you have a dual boot setup with xp on one partition and win7 on another? In that case, no, xp cannot run the programs installed on 7 and vice versa. You need to install them separately.

Welcome to the forum Gibb94.

I don't have a laptop so don't know much about them but have you made sure that yours is turned on for Wi-Fi, I believe there is usually a switch somewhere perhaps you've managed to turn it off without realising it.

If you could post back with more details about your machine and how you connect to the Internet it would help the experts to give you more help, don't forget we can't see your machine and without details we don't have much to go on.

Recently I updated computer, Toshiba A215, (windows updates which also included an update for the touch pad), bios, and other programs (nothing else hardware I think). I have never had a problem like this, and everything works as far as I have used.
In device manager an entry called isatap.{83CB3245-3DA8-47B0-B730-F0B269B6CDD9} is showing up with an exclamation mark next to it. I have never seen this one before, it is showing up under network adapters which the wireless works and shows up under there, the Ethernet also is shown there.
It doesn't bother me, like it doesn't affect how I use the laptop at all. It is just annoying to see it any time I go to device manager.

I have uninstalled it then scan for hardware, check for updates, just to see if it would sort itself out but it didn't work. Any idea would be appreciated.

I am currently running Windows Vista and just purchased a JVC Everio camera.

I have loaded all the software onto my PC and have successfully uploaded videos, edited and etc.

This evening after I combined 3 videos into a movie and attempted to save under my Video folder but was unable to do so. Upon returning to to the MediaBrowser program all the videos that I recently had access to now have orange exclamation marks on them; and if I attempt to view them I get a "failed importing" message. I have done several searches had have been unsuccessful in finding an answer.

I took another test video and uploaded it the same way and it seems to be fine. I am unable to find any of the video with Windows Media Player, except the test video. Do you think I have lost my videos?

Any suggestions would be appreciated,

I posted this thread last week, but didn't get any responses, so .... trying again.

I've tried input masks with/without the "!", I don't see any difference either way. The Help screen reads "Causes the input mask to display from right to left, rather than from left to right." Would appreciate somebody explaining its purpose.

Thanks .... Rick

A:Access - Exclamation mark in Input Mask

Rick, I didn't answer last week because I also couldn't find out what difference it makes.
