WebCam: Replacing monochrome background?

Q: WebCam: Replacing monochrome background?

Hi TechGuys,

I have the following question:

Is there any software which could replace the background in my webcam (if I get a mono-colored backdrop) with a photo or a repeating video of my choice (RealTime)?

Preferred Solution: WebCam: Replacing monochrome background?

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Dear all,

I am not sure whether this is the right forum for my question. Excuse me if not.

Anyway, my question is - is it possible to change the whole Windows XP interface from color to monochrome on a "regular" laptop computer? If yes, then how? In the old days, it was possible to do it under the display settings if I remember correctly; but now in my present computer, there are only two choices: 32 bit vs 16 bit.

Why would anyone want to do such a thing? Just because. There is no particular reason.

Brgds,

Operput

I'm pretty colorblind, so a 32-Million color palette is, well... it's silly.

I want to set up Vista to run all black monochrome. I imagine this would also save compute cycles for my graphics card and, thus, electricity.

So, has anyone run across a black-and-white system palette anywhere?

I`ve had a 2x 27" monitor setup ever since I got my laptop about a year ago. One monitor is connected via Displayport, the other one via VGA. I keep the lid of my W520 closed so I only use the two external monitors. Today I had my laptop unhooked from my workstation and now when I try to hook it back up again the screen that is connected via VGA shows up black and white.  Here is what I did while my my laptop was unhooked from the monitors:1) Took it to work as usual (it didnt drop or anything like that so I dont think it would`ve got physically damaged)2) Installed a new battery (just arrived today, Lenovo original) Here is what I tried to get the issue resolved:1) Update both integrated and Quadro 1000M drivers2) Switch monitors (the one that is connected via VGA is B&W always)3) Switched to a brand new VGA cable4) Restarted my PC multiple times5) Fiddled around with the settings under "Screen resolution"6) Checked VGA port - cosmetically it looks like it always has (no damage or anything like that)7) Switched back to old battery and tried everything again Please help me out! I would hate to have to take my computer to a hardware specialist because I am just out of warranty and I cant really afford professional servicing. Since I`m pretty sure nothing got physically damaged, what other software fixes could I try?  Thanks in advance!

When I try to print a photo, I check the settings to make sure it is in color, but when I select color, it reverts to monochrome when I go to print. This happened before and I cannot remember what I did to fix it. I think it has something to do with photo

Hi,

I have a dell D610 running XP with a SVG and a VGA output on the back. I need to display the screen on a cctv monitor that only has a BNC input. After some digging around I bought an s-video to BNC lead, full of confidence I plugged it in and got a monochrome, blurry image

I am a little confused, does anyone know what I should use to get a high resolution colour image on my monitor ?

I am looking for a method to run my system in black and white; not all the time, but only during certain circumstances (i.e. when focusing on writing or dedicated reading). Is there any way of doing this on a computer running Windows XP that does not require any programming knowledge or implementation of difficult solutions? Any solution that requires significant extra memory usage or WinXP visual themes probably isn't going to cut it. I'm looking for a way to do this that converts my entire user interface to monochrome temporarily. Is this possible or is it just an anachronistic pipe dream?

I am using a Dell Latitude D400 laptop running WinXP Pro SP2, with Integrated Intel Graphics.

A:Looking for obvious or creative way to run OS in monochrome (black/white)

Hello shoeshinesally and welcome to TSF !

Depending on your video drivers you may be able to play with some color saturation settings in the advanced display properties, but I don't think you'll have much luck with an integrated intel video.

You may find something that suits you in the high contrast modes in the accessibility options :
http://www.microsoft.com/enable/trai...hcontrast.aspx
Click settings to access different color schemes.

Or some shell replacement utility could have a black & white color scheme. Be careful when installing one of these, make sure you've got the right one because they can be a pain to remove.

I've owned this laptop for quite a while and had been using Webcam Central to control the Integrated Webcam on my Alienware M17x R4.   I never had any issues using Windows 7, 8, 8.1, or even Windows 10 until my system updated on 8/20/2016 with a scheduled Windows 10 update.
After the windows 10 update my system restarted and the next time I went to use my webcam I noticed that I couldn't control the pan / zoom / or tilt or alter any of the settings in webcam central.  If I attempt to change anything it automatically changes back instantly.  For example of I move the slider to zoom, or attempt to change the pan, it auto goes back to where it was and will not allow me to change the settings.
I also notice that my mouse pointer flickers over the webcam central GUI, meaning, there seems to be some issue with the GUI after the windows 10 update, I assume is also whats causing the settings not to be changed.
I have tried uninstalling both the drivers and software and reinstalling to no avail, same problem is present after reinstallation of both drivers and the webcam central software.
Wondering if anyone else has run into this and whether there was some type of resolution.
I was able to get the pan / zoom / tilt working with 3rd party webcam software, however I would prefer to go back to using webcam central.

Recently my webcam has just stopped functioning. This laptop is brand new however and I just got it on the 14th.
I have no clue why it wont' work anymore. I checked under device manager and under Imaging devices its called "facap, FastAccess Video Capture".
I enabled it, for some reason it had become disabled, and it wouldn't work. And it seems no Driver updates are available. Also have tried reinstalling the driver but it didn't work. I then uninstalled the old driver and tried to install the driver and it failed. So I used Windows Restore Point feature thing. Now its just disabled.
Any ideas on how to fix it?

A:Webcam Not Working. Alienware M17X, Intergrated Webcam.

I found my solution!    Though... it kinda is a "Doh!" kinda thing.
Apparently FN+F9 will enable or disable the webcam!
It seems that I had done this inadvertently at some point and turned it off, and while messing around for a solution the other day, II tried the combo it turned back on the webcam!
Quite a powerful key combination I have to say if manually enabling the web cam and reinstalling the web cam driver don't do anything.

I ran Malwarebytes to try to remove a virus, (I think it was Windows Restore but it was two weeks ago). Now my desktop background has been changed to solid black and some folders are hidden. Google and Yahoo! take a long time to find search results and then they redirect if I click directly on a link. Audio advertisements play in the background and I also get pretty regular IE script errors even if nothing seems to be running. Every now and then IE will open on it's own and go to a pop-up advertisement. My computer acts like it is running IE on its own and it is constantly cycling through pop-up adds in the background, but I can't find anything on taskmanager which looks suspicious. If I run rkill.exe the audio advertisements stop but they start up again pretty soon afterward. I've been updating Malwarebytes daily and running both full and quick scans, in regular and in safe mode, but nothing shows up. I really appreciate any help I receive, as I have been trying on my own to get rid of this whit no luck.

Hi, any help will be appreciated..
When I open my C:\WINDOWS window on My Computer, I get this weird picture of a manga-ish samurai (which I'm positive I've never intentionally downloaded) as the window background. Other folders window background are unaffected. I've tried changing Window schemes, etc but no change. My PC still works fine, everything functions (except for iTunes & quicktime, but I think its unrelated) so it's merely annoyance really, but I'm worried if it is a virus, it might spread. Hello

Please copy this page to Notepad and save to your desktop for reference as you will not have any browsers open while you are carrying out portions of these instructions.

It's IMPORTANT to carry out the instructions in the sequence listed below.

***************************************************

Download SDFix and save it to your Desktop. Double click SDFix.exe and it will extract the files to %systemdrive% -(Drive that contains the Windows Directory, typically C:\SDFix)

Download Combofix and save it to your desktop.

**Note: It is important that it is saved directly to your desktop**

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Close any open browsers.

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Close/disable all anti virus and anti malware programs so they do not interfere with the running of ComboFix.

Double click on combofix.exe & follow the prompts. When finished, it will produce a report for you.
I'll need the C:\ComboFix.txt in your next reply.

Note:
Do not mouseclick combofix's window while it's running. That may cause it to stall

hello,

A:desktop background return to previous background after changed it.

Hello Nirzan and welcome to Seven Forums.

Make sure you're following the steps in Option Two of this article, particularly Step 7, "save changes".

Desktop Background - Change

If the problem still isn't fixed, your computer may have damaged or corrupt system files. Sometimes files get damaged because of malware so run a full scan using your preferred anti-virus suite. Since no anti-virus is 100% effective 100% of the time, it's always a good idea to run some additional on-demand scans. These are free and recommended. The more scans you run (one at a time!) the greater the probability your computer is not infected.

Malwarebytes

ESET Online Scanner

SuperAntispyware

HitmanPro

If your computer comes back clean I'd next run a system file checker scan from an elevated command prompt (option two.) If problems are found, run the scan 3 times and reboot your computer after each scan.

SFC /SCANNOW Command - System File Checker

Please post back if anything helped or not.

Hi all,
I'm new to this site, and not too knowledgable, but I'm sure some one out there can help.
I run windows XP, and currently my desktop is showing an image that has come from a website I set up hosted by Webs.com. This is over riding my preferred background, which I can still see the edges of behind my Internet Explorer home page.

I must say that the website has been trouble free and extremely easy to operate since I started it over two years ago, but recently I found that I couldn't upload images properly. The images would upload but were far too large for the page, and I could not resize them as I had in the past. I intend to go through the Webs support to sort this out, but my concern now is that the images I had on my pages have disappeared, and been replaced with the message" Oops, Image not found. Webs provides your image hosting  www.webs.com. This is what shows on my screen when I close all tabs

Somehow, in my attempts to upload and resize my images I have caused this.

Everyone I have asked about this is baffled. Help please!

Hi all,So, as the username hopefully indicates - a newbie to the x200s, which I bought recently, though I've been using thinkpad products for a few years now (a devoted fan!)My x200s did not come with a webcam and, since I am thousands of miles from home, I reckoned I would try and install one manually. Note that I have swaped its HDD for an SD & changed keyboard in the past with no problem, so I was assuming (foolishly, perhaps!) that vaguely knew what I was doing.I followed the instructions and user experiences on this thread, I purchased this camera - and got off to work.Even though everything seemed fine when adding the camera to the system, a strange thing happened after I rebooted (I run Linux Mint 16): neither the webcam, nor the thinklight were now working. After lots of testing, I assumed I must have just destroyed part of the cable during installation, and so I purchased this cable (Lenovo ThinkPad X200 LCD Video Cable 44C9909) and tried again. Same result! The only difference is that the first time round, an "lsusb" command on linux would return a Ricoh product (and I assume that's the webcam), but it would still not be recognised by Mint, while now, there's nothing. In both cases, the Thinklight didn't work.Since both the thinklight and the webcam come out at the same end (see the right end of the cable on this picture) I am assuming, of course, that the two are related.Would anyone know which of the clips on the left end of the cable on the same picture, abov... That's what this option is currently intended to do: when OFF, it shows solid color on login screen, when ON it shows the standard blue windows logo background on login screen. It is probably customizable, but only through a "hack" of some sort.

The ability to keep the lock screen background on login screen is coming up in the next major update. But it is not in the current official build.

There's no option to show your wallpaper on login screen and none is planned. You can, of course, use the same picture as your wallpaper as login screen background and wait till the release.

I am using a video surveillance program (webcamXP), and I would like to use both my integrated webcam (laptop) AND my logitech webcam (C310) as sources; however, it looks like my integrated webcam is not accessible when I plug in the UBS webcam. From the program's perspective, there is only one source which corresponds to whatever webcam is available (integrated webcam when USB is unplugged, and vise versa).

I would expect both sources to be available. I'm thinking somehow the computer is seeing the USB webcam and just overriding the integrated webcam. Is there anything I can do to verify this and/or change it to make both available?

It's totally possible that it could be the program, but I was unable to find any settings to get it working.

I'm running Windows 7.

One of the most annoying "features" of Windows that I have ever experienced is the fact that when a background application needs attention it is brought into the foreground irrespective of what the user is doing. It would seem to me that the more user friendly behavior would be to flash the taskbar icon showing the application needs attention so that the user can make the decision to switch to it.

I cannot count the number of time I have left something running in the background to complete a task while I do something else only to have it bring up a window with a button that is positioned DIRECTLY below my mouse arrow such that if I happen to be clicking on something in the foreground application at the same time then the background application which has just been thrust forward will receive that click instead. The often causes an undesirable action to occur as I have just click a button for a message that I didn't have opportunity to read.

The exact same issue occurs when typing, should I happen to hit "enter" at approximately the same moment.

It is also a security issue when a background application comes to the forefront with a textbox that has focus when I was in the middle of typing a password into another application. This reveals my sensitive information to any onlooker if the offending textbox isn't bulleted as well.

Does anyone know if any way I can stop this from happening on a global level for pretty much every application I have ... Read more

A:Keeping background windows in background

Hmm, this hasn't happened to me before. Some programs and windows have the option of always "being on top" of all other items. If popup windows are that bad for you then I'd suggest a good system spyware/adware/virus scan.

I apologize in advance for my fevered nature I'm just a little bit frustrated over this.

My boyfriend bought me a Microsoft LifeCam vx-5000 today. After the initial frustration of getting my webcam to actually broadcast video via the internet I became increasingly angry over the fact that everything, even the music player I was using on a different tab froze or lagged severely after only a few seconds of my broadcasting. People would freeze or there would be a lapse in messages and then the video would start up again and/or the messages would come in droves.

My Internet works fine and is quite fast when my webcam is not on. My computer, while about 4 years old works relatively quickly and I am able to use that quickly when the webcam is on. Also, this problem only happens when the webcam is being used with the internet and nothing freezes or slows when the webcam and the internet are not connected (just using the webcam program and not utilizing say chatroulette or tinychat.)

Everyone I chat with says that they can see me clearly and I do not lag or freeze at all. Also, on my computer my webcam does not freeze or lag at all. I am incredibly frustrated because internet searches have proven to be useless because everyone complains about their webcam freezing when my problem is the complete opposite.

Thanks in advance to anyone who can help me.

A:Webcam freezes everything BUT my webcam

Hi and welcome to the forums .

Please could you fill in your System Specs under User CP, this will give us a better idea of what the problem could be.

According to Microsoft for this to work with Vista you have to download something from there website (Windows Vista Compatibility Microsoft LifeCam VX-5000 1.3MP Webcam USB 2.0).

If you haven't already installed this please do.

If you use your webcam normally with no internet connection, to say record a video, does the machine still lag?

Hi all..

I've just been given one of work's old PC's.. and all is well with it, except that the PSU makes a very audible and constant 'ticking' noise..

I've checked / cleaned the fan at the back, and can't see anything wrong with it. The 'ticking' does increase with load on the PC (I think the PSU has a load-dependant fan).

...anyway, long story short, I'm not comfortable just leaving it like that (it does seem to work ok currently), so would like to replace the PSU..

I was thinking of this:
http://www.dabs.com/productview.asp...59&PageMode=1&NavigationKey=11259,48870000,11
as it seems very good value..

..but will it fit, and have all the necessary connectors?
there is nothing special in the PC, just 1 HDD, 1 graphics card, 1 DVD drive...

the only numbers I can find on the current PSU are:
Delta Electronics Inc DPS-410DB A
HP P/N: 372355-001
p/n: 361006-001

(It's an HP workstation)

would the PSU I've linked to above be a straight swap??

thanks all....

Piers

Replaced HD in brand new HP Pavilion x360 Convertable that was sold by Best Buy at the same time as the computer. Upgraded memory too. Cloned the HD to the SSD and now computer saying no HD. Put the original back and now it will not recognize either. Went into BIOS and reset but nothing is working. Memory test was good so it it not that.

Any ideas? The BIOS is very slight in terms of what you can do. Nothing about drives except boot sequence so cannot specify SSD drive.

My ANTAC 550W PSU quit on me. Suddenly my computer turned into a brick. I had been installing a SSD at time. I figured that I must have forgotten to unplug the power cord and blown the PSU (though I didn't smell anything) So I ordered a CORSAIR CMPSU-550VX 550W ATX12V V2.2 SLI from Amazon. When I got it I installed it but my computer was still a brick with pretentions of being a paper weight. I figured that the new PSU was also defective. (I know. unlikely) so I sent it back and got a replacement. I received that one today. I unpacked it and connected the power cord and turned it on before I installed it. It did nothing but I seem to remember being told that the PSU would not do anything (including the fan operating) until it was installed . So I very carefully installed it and turned it on. Nothing. So what next?

A:Replacing my PSU

My approach at this point would be to bench test, remove the motherboard from the case, remove all but one stick of ram, take off the graphics card for now, place the motherboard on a non conductive surface, plumb in the psu and vga, dvi, hdmi cable and switch on the pc. You can switch it on by shorting the two pins where the power switch is connected using a screw driver, just make sure it has a plastic handle (although it shouldn't matter really)

if at this stage nothing happens, then id remove absolutely everything, including the CPU and see if there is any signs of power, if not then I'd suspect the motherboard, if you do have some signs of life, start to introduce other components, such as CPU, then test, RAM, then test, GPU, then test etc. eventually you'll find the culprit.

Good luck and keep us posted.

A:replacing the hdd

twoqts It's NOT difficult if you do it the CORRECT way -- and that is by using the HP Recovery Media created for that specific machine.  This is NOT a single disk -- so what you are using is not the correct media. HP Recovery Media is a set of DVDs and a CD, or USB stick, that will erase the hard drive (removing all data, settings, and applications, reinstall the original OS, drivers, and some HP Utilities. In some cases, you may be able to order a USB stick instead of disks. You have to order these from HP; they can not be downloaded. You can look online for Recovery Media starting with the linked paged: http://support.hp.com/us-en/driversOnce there, input your Product name or number. On your Software and Drivers Download page, select your Operating System and and Version. Click "Update". If HP Recovery Media is available for your machine, down near the bottom of the page, you will see an entry for Order Recovery Media-CD/DVD/USB. Click the "+" symbol to expand that entry and click on Order Media for details.Or, if you prefer, you can do the same by contacting HP Customer Service:If you live in the US or Canada, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/phone-assist.html#section1If you live elsewhere, contact information is on this page: http://www8.hp.com/us/en/contact-hp/ww-contact-us.htmlNOTE: After you get through, stay on the line until you are finally able to talk to some one -- it can take a while! If you have trouble findin... Hi. My fan has been making whirring and clicking noises for months now, and while my computer is completely operational, the bottom line is I need to get the fan fixed. I'm spending this coming semester abroad in England, and I'd really not like to have computer problems while I'm there. I just got off the phone with Lenovo support, and they said that if I sent the computer in for them to fix for me, the minimum it would cost is $175, and the max would be $275, and surely it would be closer to the max. They said that if I want to replace the fan myself, I could order it, and it would cost.....$334. There's no way I'm spending that much money on a fan. That's like 1/2 - 1/3 of a new computer. Just like other laptop components, are there other compatible fans, preferably *cheaper*, that I could use?  I don't know what specs you need, but here's what I tell the Lenovo site to get user manuals and stuff: ThinkPad G412881-4FUWindows XP"Official" part number for the fan: 91P8535 Thanks for the help.

A:Replacing fan in G41

Welcome to the forum! I'd suggest cleaning the fan first and removing dust from that area...if that doesn't help, try sourcing the fan directly from IBM and compare the price with ones on eBay and other Internet sources.  Information on how to replace the fan, as well as the FRU numbers involved, can be found in HMM that can be downloaded from here: http://www-307.ibm.com/pc/support/site.wss/document.do?sitestyle=lenovo&lndocid=MIGR-50577 Hope this helps.

hello, recently i decided to buy a new psu since the one i have right now is making weird noises and i believe it's related to the random system restarts (i checked the fans and such, it looks ok, and it's about 10 years old so there's another reason i guess)
my question is, how do i pick the right psu?
i've looked it up, but i can't figure out what kind of connectors i need.
here are my specs

Tech Support Guy System Info Utility version 1.0.0.4
OS Version: Microsoft Windows 10 Pro, 64 bit
Processor: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 6000+, AMD64 Family 15 Model 67 Stepping 3
Processor Count: 2
RAM: 3071 Mb
Graphics Card: NVIDIA GeForce GT 640, -2048 Mb
Hard Drives: C: 38 GB (10 GB Free); D: 109 GB (22 GB Free);
Motherboard: MSI, MS-7309
Antivirus: Windows Defender, Disabled

right now i have a cd-rom, and 1 hdd installed besides the stuff on the mobo, and soon i'll get a sdd, so i would need a slot for that as well.
generally psu's specifications include the type of connectors, i'd like to know if it's possible to tell which ones i need only with the information i gave, otherwise i could open the pc and post a picture.

edit: i noticed it says i've got two processors, which i don't, unless it refers to cpu.

I'm looking to replace my desktop's CPU as my current CPU appears to be on its last legs (running any kind of program that requires anything greater than simple browsing [i.e. mlb.tv or streaming video] or running more than 2 programs causes the CPU % usage to jump to close to 99%). It also runs a little hot when the cpu % jumps this high.

Current machine is one I built in college in '03. I gamed then but I don't anymore; now I just use it for media, internet, basic photo editing & word processing. Since I built this machine I have not kept up with the advances of hardware, at all. And I've forgotten most everything I knew about the computer's (now outdated, I'm sure) hardware. Items below are linked to the actual items I purchased when buying it.

Mobo: Giga-byte 8iexp.
CPU: P4 2.4 ghz, socket 478.
2gb DDR RAM 2700
Antec case & PS

The only new P4 478 I found on newegg is this one. It appears it would work with my motherboard, right? Also, what else would I need in terms of cooling/fan (and any recommendations?)? When I built it I just bought the retail CPU with heatsink and fan so I don't know what I would need.

I do not want to build or buy another machine. This really isn't an upgrade since I'm just wanting to fix what appears to be a CPU problem. any help is greatly appreciated. Oh, and I run MS XP.
