Yoga 730-13IKB Screen Cracked after 6 months of normal use

Q: Yoga 730-13IKB Screen Cracked after 6 months of normal use

I purchased this laptop about 6 months ago and it cracked right at the hinge for the screen. The touch screen no longer functions properly and the screen flickers black. The laptop has been treated with care the whole time and was never dropped or anything like that. This crack merely developed from using the laptop as intended. I called Lenovo customer service and they said the warranty did not cover physical damage. I asked to speak with a supervisor and she did not care at all that I had an unsatisfactory product. This laptop is either poorly designed or built with cheap parts if it can not withstand opening and closing the screen without cracking. I am very surprised that Lenovo is clearly not concerned at all with the quality of their products or customer satisfaction.

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Hey guys, I've had my X1 Carbon Gen 7 since August and I love the thing! I use it at work as my workstation and only ever open the lid once a day to unlock it with the fingerprint scanner. Unfortunately doing so yesterday and I noticed there is a crack right where I open the lid from:  This laptop sits on my desk 24/7 and I don't think I've been rough opening the lid at all! (using my thumb on the black frame right above where the crack starts) It's only 3 months old and I've been told that it's not covered at all by my warranty and they're sending me a quote to get it fixed. This is my first Lenovo product and I was so proud of it! My colleagues recommended Lenovo but this has left me with a seriously bad first impression.

I bought my Z830 in July 2012.
While I loved using the computer, the screen cracked after 4 months of normal usage.

I have treated the computer gently and have always used a slipskin and computer bag when travelling with it. The crack occurred while the computer had been sitting on a desktop for about 2 months.

I have had about 10 Toshiba laptops/notebooks over the past 15 years and have never had a cracked screen before.

It seems that a cracked screen is not covered under teh Toshiba Warranty, so it is very disappointing.

I would be very interested to know how many others have had this experience with the Z830.

Hello HP,

Devastatingly, I found that spectre x360 screen was cracked spontaneously on the right hand side, just 1cm or so away from the right hinge area.

I was just using it on the desk at the time when i noticed some distortion on the screen. Later, with higher lighting I saw that screen had cracked. The computer has NOT been mistreated, dropped or mishandled. I treat my computer very well and other than a few cosmestic blemishes, the computer is perfect. The case hardly has any dents or scratches.

After contacting HP support, they told me to send in my computer. The situation seemed positive at the time. After dropping off my computer at the service centre. I waited a day or two.

Then, I heard back from a case manager and they told me that they determined the damage was "user-induced" and not repairing my computer. During this time, I researched this issue since I was 200% sure that I did not mistreat the computer, I found this recent thread with 150 replies on the cracked screen issue. It seems to be some fragility in the glass that was used in the spectre and moreover, it has happened multiple times to many users.

Given this knowledge, I've asked the case manager to continue to escalated the issue.

However, I have not heard back and I've written to the customer relations department.

It's been almost 2 weeks without my computer and HP still hasn't contacted me regarding any updates on my case.

It's a bit outrageous t... Read more

Hi, yesterday I noticed a crack in my laptop's screen. At first, my laptop was working fine, but after a while it began to detect input in the area where the crack is located instead of where I was trying to direct the curser (this occured not only when touching the screen but when using the trackpad as well). My laptop is also slow to process new input. I thought about disabling the touchscreen in order to use my laptop for now, but I cannot find the option in order to do this, and my laptop's slow processing of input is making this extremely difficult.  Would I be able to have this repaired? If so, how much would it cost? For now, what can I do in order to use my laptop?

I am looking to upgrade my lenovo yoga 910 13IKB screen to one compatable with an active digitizer that is available with some of the newer models. From my understanding, as long as the form factor is the same(fits computer) and the connector is identicle it should be possible with just a torx driver. My finance's laptop is a generation newer (has digitizer pen) and seems to have the same dimensions as mine. Has anyone tried this or know if I am missing something? Thoughts?

I'm experiencing a very annoying blinking/flickering of the built-in 4K display.Have a look at this short video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Vdd4UICu_T4On the movie it isn't nearly as bad as in reality. The flickering is only visible with a blue, dark gray or purple color background. White, red or black is fine. The issue appears to be independent of the OS - the same can be observed in Linux or even in the BIOS.It all started after I attached a second screen (FullHD 24 inch using Thunderbold->HDMI adapter) in Windows 10 (latest Intel display drivers as of January 26, 2018).Just after connecting the external display the laptop screen went gibberish but the external display worked fine. After disconnecting the screen and restarting the computer the blinking started. It looks like a problem with the refresh rate. The laptop display behaves like an old CRT display with a low refresh rate I found this procedure https://support.lenovo.com/pl/en/solutions/ht500364 in another thread and followed it but unfortunately it didn't help.  The computer is almost brand new (bought in December, top version i7-8550U, 16GB RAM, 1TB NVMe, 4K UHD display). Any help appreciated.

I have had my Yoga Pro 3 for four days and the screen cracked.  I did not drop it or damage it, it just happened upon opening.  Customer Service is less than helpful and kept telling me it was my fault. They said they will send a technician out for $169 plus the cost of the screen which they could not give me a price on.  They wanted my credit card number up front.  If I can find a way to return it, I will.I think it is sad that they will not stand behind their product.  I paid over $1600 for this, and for it to crack in four days is unacceptable.I will not be purchasing Lenovo prodcuts in the future.  Unacceptable and uncaring customer service.  It is as if they simply read from a script.

I ordered a Yoga 2 Pro direct from LENOVO very late December - delivered around January 1st.I didn't have the time to unpack and examine for about a week. I unpacked and first turn on the computer around January 7...and over the next few days spent just a brief amount of time setting it up, updating, etc. My time playing with the computer was brief...just 30-45 minutes every other day or so..nothing more than a general look and feel. I was impressed with the look and feel...the build quality and performance. Over the weekend things changed for the worse....I was working with the unit in my living room in the morning....closed the lid...placed in on the coffee table. Later in the afternoon - some 4-5 hours later....I sat down, picked up the Yoga 2 Pro, and in short order noticed a crack extending from top left - just at the end of the LENOVO name - down to the middle of the bottom. The Yoga 2 was treated with white glove delicacy the entire time since it left it's box. I currently have numerous laptops (including 2 LENOVO) and tablets...from APPLE, ACER, LENOVO, AMAZON, etc.I have never experienced anything like it. The ONLY ideas I can come up with fall into two categories: 1 - the design is inherently flawed.      There is noticeable flex in the unit - both the keyboard and screen - yes - it is minimal (I never twisted or stressed it in anyway beyond gentle normal operation.  Perhaps the glass can't handle... A:Yoga 2 Pro Cracked Screen and more....

Hi, I too have had the same problem. I had received my Lenovo Yoga 2 "Pro" today and when I first put it on my lap and opened it, I heard a crack. Oh what a traumatising sound it was. I investigated further and found that I had the same crack as yours. From the Lenovo sign all the way to the middle... I'm pretty sure the Yoga 2 "Pro" isn't so much of a Pro after all. The build quality is something out of a $500 laptop. The ridiculously thin glass and the bendy plastic isn't ideal at all, the Lenovo team clearly did not know how to design a laptop. I mean afterall, this is Lenovo "the king of laptops".  The reason why I am so offensive is because I had an unforgettable experience with my Surface 2 a couple of months ago. On the same day I received it the device crashed. I took it to a separate serviceman because Microsoft couldn't be bothered to have proper worldwide support. The Nvidia Tegra processor was faulty. You know, it always baffles me why Apple is considered the best. It's because it is, come to think of it. I have NEVER heard of a hardware issue out of ANY Apple device. The build quality on Apple devices is so professionally made, so professionally examined that it is completely out of Lenovo's league. No company can compete with Apple on build quality.  Apple are professional unlike Lenovo. Dan

Hi...I am hoping to get some guidance on an issue that I am having.  We bought my daughter a Yoga 730 for college in July and she started experiencing issues with the screen flickering to the point she cannot use it except for in tablet mode.  In tablet mode she says it does not flicker at all but it is harder for her to use (and she honestly should be able to use it as a laptop also..that is why we chose the Yoga).  I purchased it via Amazon and their tech support sent links to update the BIOS etc. which my daughter has done but the flicker continues. My problem(s) are these 1) Get the flicker issue resolved.  Since it works fine in tablet mode it most likely is not a software issue and I have read quite a few posts online about the wire to the display being pinched but need someone who knows about these things to take a look at it and resolve the issue.  2) She is at college 13 hours away and needs to use her laptop on a daily basis for school.  The 13 hours means I cannot drive over to her dorm and take a look at it and her need to use it means she cannot go without a machine for long. If someone could provide some insight into how Lenovo typically handles these types of issues and what type of turnaround time she can expect?  There is a warranty place near where she is at school and that might help with the shipping time etc. but not sure. Thanks in advance....

My Lenovo Yoga 920-13IKB is a 2 in 1 laptop running Windows 10 Home.  Meaning full Active S Pen and Touch screen.  After installing the Version  1909 update, it's Device Specifications (via Windows Settings) Pen and touch:  No pen or touch input is available for this display.    In Device Manager/Human Interface Devices, no HID Touch screen device or driver is available.  The Wacom Device cannot start.  I'm assuming because Version 1909 eliminated the pen and touch support. I ran a full restore of Win 10 Home (no pen or touch support found), ran a driver update scan via Lenovo.  It identified a "Touch Panel Pen Driver - 10" driver to be updated.  Update the driver and reboot and nothing has changed.  Start the Lenovo Pen Settings App and get a message that the Wacom Pen Driver is required.  Odd, since the Wacom Device won't start as stated above.  Follow the Lenovo Pen Settings link to download the Wacom Pen driver, install it, no change in functionality.  Same process before and after v1909 update with no Pen or Touch support.  It's barebones, no antivirus, firewall, anti-malware to get in the way. The machine came with a HDD partition of drivers but nothing identified as an HID touch screen.   Brett

I have the YOGA 90013ISK (the original one), I need to replace a cracked screen.  Can I replace it with the new screen from the 920 Vibes (UK name) https://www3.lenovo.com/gb/en/laptops/yoga/900-series/Yoga-920-Vibes/p/88YG9000860 If so, where can I get one? If not, what do I need to replace the cracked glass?  Do I need to replace the whole unit, or just the glass? Thanks

A:Replacement cracked Yoga 900 screen

The thing you call the glass is the static discharge digitizer.  There is a matrix of VERY fine wires running through it.  It cannot be replaced separately. (bonded with adhesive and connected via a non-reusable connection tape) Lenovo replaces the entire lid unit as an assembly.  You can replace the entire screen assembly as a unit (keeping the lid and hinges) as a unit, but it is difficult to get the camera and microphone moved without breaking anything and it is difficult to get the lid mounted so that it closes flat.  I have never tried, but I think the 920 will not fit.

I'm usually a pretty careful person but in my one rare clumsy moment, I managed to drop my Yoga 900 on the floor from maybe a height of less than a metre.  The screen is cracked starting from the top right hand corner and has a hairline fracture all the way to the bottom left corner. It still works, as in I can still see things on the screen, but I keep getting jumpy cursors and whatnot (expected of a cracked touch-enabled screen). So my question is: What am I suppose to do? I've called Lenovo Support and I've chatted with an Encompass technician, and although they were very nice, it didn't help because there doesn't seem to be a replacement screen available for purchase/repairs. I've only had this laptop for 5 months and it seems ludicrous to buy a new one already...... Edit: This is for the Yoga 900-13ISK.

I love this computer. All things considered, I think it's currently the best of its kind on the market. So it really upset me that it broke after I'd had it for one week. Here's what happened:            The little corner of a smooth, thin, cotton pillow case...for the kind of pillow that goes on a bed...Just the corner...got closed up in the computer when I shut the lid, right down next to the hinge on the right side. It was a flat inch of fabric. I moved to pick up the laptop and just as I did, just as I moved it SLIGHTLY downward then away from where the bespoke pillow sat, I heard a tiny crunching sound. That tiny sound was of three cracks forming in the lower right corner and one long crack extending, diagonally, across the entire screen to the upper left corner. Really, that's all it took! A thin scrap of cotton fabric, and my incredible miracle of modern science is totally unusable! The touch screen now has pressure points all over the place causing it to flip out. I've read of lots of Yoga 2 owners finding inexplicable cracks in the same exact area; they mostly determined that the hinge was too tight putting too much strain on the glass. I think that's probably still the case as the lid is stiff to add stability to it, which does seem necessary. But the glass is also VERY thin. Too thin to have the tensile strength to handle the amount of pressure applied by the movements of the hinge. That is a design flaw, and I'm not sure if there's a ... Read more

Still within waranty I contacted lenovo (I have paid extra for an on site warranty as well) who refsued my warranty claim and said they would only deal with it as an out of warranty claim so I would have to pay as it was "physical damage" that was not covered. What an absolute joke. We have done nothing wrong to cause this cracked screen. It clearly appears to be becasue of a design fault in the hinge that has no top pin fitted. What can I do and why on earth should I be expected to pay for a repair that is not out fault at all?  Even if it is repaired, surely it will just keep on happening? Not happy at all with Lenovo's absence of customer care, or complete lack of, on this issue.

The screen of my Yoga 14 ThinkPad Type 20FY touchscreen has cracked. I have a few questions on how to replace the screen.

Serial Number: XXXXXXXX                               Mod edit:  Serial number removed per forum rules
Machine Type Model: 20FY0002US

1. Can I replace the touchscreen with a non-touch screen? It looks like touchscreens are delicate and expensive. I didn't want a touchscreen but Best Buy did not have that in their store.
2. What is the part number for the screen? I need it to purchase online. Online forums suggest opening the screen to see the part number. Is there a way to see part number using model, and machine type (posted above)? I need part number of non-touch screen, if that will work with the laptop.
3. What is the cheapest and reliable place to buy a replacement screen? I plan to replace it myself.

I would be appreciative of your help.

Hello,I have many issues with my Yoga 920 that I purchased less than a month ago (but over 14 days). The machine runs Windows Home Intel(R) Quad(TM) i7 8550U  16GB RAM 526SSDFirst as stated above the screen flickers. However, this is only when I travel to my parents' house and connect to their wifi and sometimes at my school in certain locations.Another issue is when typing my cursor often jumps in the text box so I have to erase and reposition my cursor. This is extremely annoying!Next my event log has a TON of error codes; however, I am not a developer so I have no idea if these errors/warnings are important. When I run Lenovo Companion, Webroot or previously McAfee nothing is reported. Is there anyway someone from lenovo can connect to my laptop remotley to figure out what is going on?

I have a new laptop and whilst it worked in tablet mode for a bit it suddenly stopped working. As soon as the machine is fully flipped, the screen goes blank.  All updates installed and fully up to date
