Thinkpad L430 Touchpad & Touchpoint not working and Ultranav checkboxes to them are greyed out

Q: Thinkpad L430 Touchpad & Touchpoint not working and Ultranav checkboxes to them are greyed out

Hi I use a USB mouse with my laptop so not sure when trackpad/point stopped working- I first became aware of the issue a couple of weeks ago. I have since reset my machine (Windows 10) twice to see if that fixes it and also downloaded drivers from this site but to no avail. Can anyone offer assistance? Thanks in advance Huw

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I've got an old Yoga S1 (Model 20CD).  It is the US version and I'm traveling for several months in France.  Last week I spilled water on the keyboard.  Fortunately the computer still works, but only the trackpoint seems to work on the keyboard.  Finding a replacement keyboard and replacing it is challenging because (a) I'm in france and (b) I don't have any tools (one of the screws holding the motherboard in is stuck). I realize this is a shot in the dark, but does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions before I order a new keyboard? Merci.

Thinkpad E540, Windows 10 Version 1703, UltraNav driver 19.0.17.115 While my Touchpad is still working correctly, the UltraNav Touchpad tab in the Mouse Properties of the device manager is now missing. The last tab at the right end of the Mouse Properties is Hardware and no longer UltraNav. However, my original settings of the touchpad are still kept.Uninstalling and reinstalling of the UltraNav driver did not fix the issue. The tab was probably lost following a recent update of Windows 10.  Any idea how I could get the UltraNav tab back? Many thanks to the communityPeter

On my X1 Carbon 7th Gen - (Type 20QD) the touchpad is not working. track point is working fine so are the ultra nav buttonstouchpad is completely unresponsivethere is not ultranav or synaptics tab in my addtional mouse options (mouse properties) in settingsI have touchpad settings in windows settings. I tried setting sensitity to max. Didn't change anything. That's the only option apart from the link for additional settings which is missing the tab. I can't roll back drivers -> option is greyed out on HID-compliant mouse (I assume thats the touchpad in device manager)there doesn't seem to be a synaptic driver installedon the lenovo X17 support page is no synaptic driver to download only a firmware update. Which, when I try to execute, tells me that there needs to be a synpatic driver installed in order to upgrade the firmware. I tried pressing FN+F8 and all other F keys...I also can't see a function key that enables or disables the touchpad. Is there one? In BIOS both trackpoint and touchpad are turned onThankful for any advice...

Thus far I failed to identify the circumstances in which the touchpad stops working. It seems to sometimes happen when it checks for an update. What is also curious that the cursor will sometimes mess up such that the text cursor will be displayed as the context menu cursor. Not sure if this is related. The touchpad works again after restart. Everything is up-to-date, running Windows 10 (1909). The TrackPoint is unaffected by this.

Hi there,
Over the last weekend I had to take apart my old but working fine IBM Thinkpad 390E.

It all went well until the last step, the keyboard!
I noticed there was an orange cable coming from the touch point on the keyboard, and directly beneath that id the same colour orange cable plugging into the motherboard.

Could someone explain how I get the touch point setup and working? I just can't figure it out, and I really need it working!

Any advise on this is would be much appreciated!. Thanks.

This topic has been an ongoing problem with the Driver, etc., etc., etc. for 10 years + or -. I have four X120e Thinkpads with Windows 10 v1909 installed on each one. They appear to have almost exactly the same Synaptics software installed. They definitely show exactly the same devices in Device Manager and yet two of the Thinkpads have the UltraNav tab  on the Control Panel/Mouse control and two of them do not have the tab. I have been chasing old posts (such as 2011, 2015, etc. for more than two days now with no working solution. Can anyone please help me out?

I am running a ThinkPad L530 in a Windows 10 environment.  All drivers are up to date.

Ever since I installed Windows 10, whenever the laptop awakens from sleepmode or is rebooted, the touchpad becomes enabled.  I have gone into the Settings - Devices - Mouse & touchpad - additional mouse options - Ultranav and unchecked the "Enable TouchPad" and clicked Apply, then OK.  This doesn't hold, though.  As soon as it awakens, the box becomes checked and I have to redo the settings.  I don't want the touchpad active at all, but I do occasionally need the eraser button.  How do I make my selection stick?

Hi, my Thinkpad L430 starts up as normal, but after showing the Windows logo, the text comes up (in Norwegian) "prepares for automatic repair" and then nothing happens. The black screen appears, but I can move around the pointer (mouse). When I run the tests it only turn up one error. It failes at "Smart status", "Smart short self-test" and "Targeted read test". The final result code is UHD01V013-WOWXAG. Please help me out here.

A:Thinkpad L430 issue - black screen

The S.M.A.R.T. (Self-Monitoring, Analysis and Reporting Technology) is a monitoring system included in computer hard disk drives to watch for errors, so the result code indicates that your HDD is failing and needs to be replaced.    If it is under warranty open a warranty ticket with Lenovo, but if not I would recommend that you not try to boot the system if you need to recover data, and seek assistance from a good computer shop, which may be able to still access the data on the drive using another system and recover your data before installing a new HDD or SSD.    If you send it into Lenovo under warranty, they will not recover data, but should replace the drive and resinstall the factory image. The Result code means U = UEFIHD01- Hard Drive OneVO2 = Volume One3= Test Results (Targeted Read failed etc.)WOWXAG = Encrypted data that uniquely identifies your system    Best of luck,

Does anyone know the difference between FRU 04Y2001 and FRU 04Y2003? They're both motherboards for L430 (without the daughter cards for USB, VGA, DP etc). I've managed to destroy a 04Y2001 (by using pliers trying to loosen one of the internal screws, and thus managing to damage both BT and audio ports), but was only able to get a hold of a 04Y2003. By looking at photos of both motherboards, they looked exactly the same, apart from a few of the transistors/resistors that have different markings on them. The two smaller grey ones next to the CPU socket:04Y2001 has R42A, 6J, 303 on them04Y2003 has R26H, E24X on them. And the larger grey one, also next to the CPU socker:04Y2001 has R36, 347, 6LL04Y2003 has R36W, 4C, 3116J And, darn it, I've just noticed that two smaller grey ones next to the chipset also have different markings on them (suprisingly,  larger grey one next to the chipset has the same marking on both 04Y2001 and 04Y2003): 04Y2001 has 2R2, 3110104Y2003 has 2R2H, IE08 Also, the large grey one next to the memory slot (smaller one has the same marking on both 04Y2001 and 04Y2003): 04Y2001 has R56, 347, 9HA04Y2003 has R56, 329, 8L6 All the MHz, V(oltage) and A(mperage), KHz markings on both motherboards are exactly the same. We own a L430 which we bought cca. 4 years ago. In the meantime, we've dropped it (right lower corner on the back of the screen is where it hit the floor) and since then the screen has developed lines/distortions which would go away after flexing the entire screen assembly back and forth. We've opened the laptop at least a dozen times to try and fix it permanently, but that would work only for a limited period. Now, we've decided to either buy a replacement screen assembly (meaning, LCD panel, both front and back bezels including all the cables) or a used L430. Our L430 has the 1366x768 resolution and has a webcam. We were wondering, if we purchase a used L430 that doesn't have a webcam, could we remove the webcam and front screen bezel from our L430 and install it into the L430 that doesn't have a webcam? Also, if we buy a L430/screen assembly with a different resolution (e.g. 1600x900), can we just swap it with the one in our L430 which has a lower resolution? Or do we need to swap LCD cables/ribbons too? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

I started having issues with the ultranav middle button. It works when i start the computer but after a few minutes of scrolling up and down it does not work anymore.  The only way to have it function again is to either restart (which will again only work for a few minutes) or use a bluetooth mouse to uncheck and check the mouse settings for trackpoint which that too will work for a few minutes only. I've updated the bios and updated the driver. Still not stable. Any suggestions would be highly appreciated.

Hi,
I'm configuring a brand new IBM thinkpad for a friend. It came all set up and everything seems great (HUGE system!) but I can't get the touch pad to work, only the red button in the middle, along with the corresponding red buttons. The touchpad and black buttons do not work, and it seems that there should be a way to toggle back and forth. I am checking the IBM website as we speak, but I usually get my answers quicker here!
Thanks, TW

I recently got a friend of mine get me a Thinkpad P50 laptop from US (I live in India). Since beginning I am having issues with the touchpad. Initially the touchpad (including touchpad keys and the trackpopint) would work for some time and then stop responding completely until rebooted. However since last few days the touchpad is completely dead. I get a message whenever I start the laptop that touchpad was not detected. I have tried installing drivers for the touchpad from lenovo website as well as doing a factory reset, but nothing seems to have worked so far. I also took the laptop to the lenovo service center in India, but they have refused to look into the issue, since the laptop was purchased in US and the Lenovo website does not list India as a country where international warrenty for this laptop is applicable. Infact the site for this laptop is blank and does not show any country. Any suggestions what I should be doing next to resolve this would be greately appreciated.

My laptop, Lenovo IdeaPad 520, has Synaptics driver for the touchpad. It's up-to-date. Something weird happened to it and all of a sudden the check boxes and radio buttons in Mouse Properties window and the Synaptics touchpad settings window have disappeared. I am not able to make selections and ensure that correct settings are selected. Here're the screenshots:- Today after I installed a third-party driver which came with a program called vJoy (used for gaming purpose). After that driver was installed, the Windows sounds for peripherals disconnection/connection were emitted and I noticed that the Synaptics tray icon was shown on the taskbar which caused me to suspect that the third-party driver did something to my touchpad but didn't know what. Also, I'm not sure if this is the actual reason for this weird problem. When I opened the touchpad settings, I noticed that those selection buttons had disappeared. Even after uninstalling the third-party driver and deleting its related registry entries, nothing changed. I also uninstalled and deleted Synaptics' driver, restarted the laptop and installed it again. Still didn't work. What could be the issue? Thanks.

Good Day!I'm from the Philippines and I bought a refurbished thinkpad p50 from the US at 2016 and I extended its NBD warranty until June 1, 2018. The touchpad and trackpad suddenly stopped working a few weeks ago and it seems that the bios can't recognize them. The wifi reception seems to have also weaken, requiring me to be closer to the wifi source than before. I also tried reinstalling the drivers but it can't still identify the two pointing device. I'm actually planning to ship it to the US this week before my NBD warranty expires, but I don't know anyone from the US right now to avail the NBD service. May I know which address must I send it to, and the proper procedures to avail the repairs?I already spent $170 for the warranty extension last year, and I'll be spending another $100 for the DHL shipping to the US. May I also know if Lenovo will answer the shipping back to my country, since if not, I'll be spending another $100 for it to be shipped back to the Philippines?I also tried calling the service center from the US but I kept on having long calls with no response. Thanks!

Everything was working perfectly fine on my T440s with Windows 10 Pro, I am not sure what caused the issue, May be a driver upgrade touchpad is no more working. I suspect that it's not a hardware issue because button clicks works and scrolling in web pages works. The Driver version which I do have currently installed is 19.0.17.115 from Synaptics.  If I open the mouse properties I can change settings for TrackPoint but TrackPad options are grayed out. Can't make any changes.  I tried different drivers from Lenovo, Reinstalled Windows 10, Tried Resetting Windows 10 and Reinstalled drivers but nothing works. I would like to hear from any T440s owners which version of driver they use and if everything is well with Windows 10. Hey everyone, I've upgraded my ThinkPad Yoga S1 (20CD) to Windows 10. I was up to build 1607 before I started encountering issues with the onboard keyboard and touchpad losing power once the laptop gets past the BIOS load screen. Once into Windows, the fn key seems to still function, but nothing after that. Here's what I've done so far for troubleshooting:Verified drivers are current from Lenovo System Updater and support website (all drivers and BIOS are current).Checked the manufacturer's website for newer drivers for the keyboard and mouse.Brought Windows 10 up to current version 1809.Clean boot for Windows.Uninstalled and reinstalled drivers.Ran hardware troublshooting tools for keyboard and mouse.Removed the screw near the audio jack as I had read on some forums that the pressue was messing with the sensor near there.Checked the ribbon cables on the motherboard to verify they are seated correctly.Disabled sensor services (this seemed to work for a bit on Windows 1709).Tried running start up repair.Ran sfc/scannow. I'm running out of ideas, other than to go back to Windows 8, but I'd really rather not. Any suggestions/items to try that I'm missing?

I have a Thinkpad T440S and have a problem that many have reported. The trackpoint and touchpad initially work upon bootup but then stop working after a few minutes.I believe I've tried everything (uninstall/reinstall drivers, replace keyboard, replace hard drive and do a complete reinstall of all software, update everything, etc etc etc). Nothing works and the only reason I can still use my computer is that a wireless mouse will work. It's time to get a new computer. I've bought Thinkpads for more than a decade but I still see this problem being reported for the T470 so Lenovo can't or won't bother to fix this. Any suggestions for a different brand and model? Every time that I go to Control Panel > Mouse I get an error that tells me that there is a problem with Synaptics device, telling me to uninstall and reboot. Meanwhile, I installed windows 8.1 Pro, guessing that it could have some incompatibility with Windows 10, but the problem remains the same. Can anyone help me with this? How can I solve the problem? Where can I find the right drivers for my device?Thank you very much!

Hi All, I have an almost new X280 laptop. The touchpad stopped working when i switched on the machine, yesterday i did not have any problems. What i tried:- driver updated- checked bios+windows settings (Touchpad is ON) In Device Manager under HID devices, there is "HID compliant touchpad" and "Synaptics HID-Complient Touch Pad Device". Here comes the strange part: if i disable "Synaptics HID-Compliant Touch Pad Device", the touchpad starts working but gestures are not working like scroll up/down with two fingers. When enabling it again it stops working again. (+when booting from Hirens, it works fine, so it is definately _not_ a hardware issue) Additional information: The Track Poing device and the buttons over the touchpad are working all the time, if "click" with the touchpad it works fine all the time (for example i move the cursor with a USB mouse over any icon on the desktop, i double-click the touchpad, the program or document opens). Can you help me please, does anyone has an idea what the solution could be? I don't want to reinstall Windows because of this...  Thank you, Attila
