On screen keyboard icon shortcut not showing next to text input fields

Q: On screen keyboard icon shortcut not showing next to text input fields

I enabled PC Tablet Support in the windows features section of windows 7, but i still can't get windows to pop up that on screen keyboard icon that usually displays next to any type of data input fields.

My windows is NOT installed on a tablet pc, but i recently connected a touch screen to my desktop and am hoping to get the same sort of functionality like my tablet edition of xp had.

Anyone know how to make that shortcut icon appear again?

Preferred Solution: On screen keyboard icon shortcut not showing next to text input fields

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

I am running genuine windows xp sp3. Installed ie8 a few days ago but this morning most of my text input fields have shrunk to an extremely small size and the text itself is about as big as a pixel. I cant see what I am typing. Some sites are OK and others are not.
Has anyone experienced this or can offer any suggestions.

I think I have narrowed it down to on mouse movement that text input fields fill with %E?;E?+E? or %%E; or different variations of those characters followed by ENTER... I think!?!?
I removed all other languages from the keyboard settings in windows, and turned off the hotkeys for switching languages, this didn't help.
The next step was to swap out the Logitech keyboard/mouse combo with a ps2 keyboard and usb mouse and uninstalled logitech's setpoint software thinking that might be the problem.
It wasn't.
Not sure what steps to take next.
BTW, it doesn't matter what program is open...

Thanks for any help

A:On mouse movement text input fields auto fill with %E?;E?+E?

Maybe take a look in device manager to see if any of Logitech's drivers are still in use, if it is, uninstall them.

I really don't know what to call this. I'm not even sure if this is the correct board to post this in. That little icon, similar to the shortcut arrow that Windows puts on desktop shortcuts started appearing on my downloaded files yesterday. I believe that it is a system icon related to user accounts. But I am the only one using this computer and don't have any user accounts set up.

I had upgraded AVG antivirus yesterday afternoon (from 2012 to 2013), and this started happening after that. Today I uninstalled AVG completely (as completely as Windows will allow since I don't know what's left in the registry!). I hoped that this would disappear afterward, but it hasn't. Just about anything I download, whether graphic or zip file, now has this (pardon me) stupid little icon attached to it and I absolutely hate it. I checked to see if Windows had updated yesterday but the last update they made was the 23rd so I don't think that had anything to do with it. I assume, though, it is Windows and was not AVG that's responsible for it appearing on my downloads.

Does anyone have any idea what caused this to start happening, and more importantly, how I can stop it? I really want to get rid of those pesky things, whatever they are called.

I'm running Vista, updated with all SPs and updates.

A:Shortcut icon showing up on downloaded files icons

To update, I just found that zip files I have created in the last 24 hours also have the same shortcut on them, so this is obviously a windows problem. I very much want to know how to stop it.

Hello all

Is there any way of applying the currently selected font color (selected in the ribbon) to a cell using the keyboard only in Excel 2007. I mean in the way that one can make a text bold with ctrl + b. I've searched though lists of keyboard shortcuts and the answer seems to be no because this is not included in those lists but I just wanted to ask if anybody knows for sure whether this can be done.

Thanks in advance.

Hi - I want to create a keyboard shortcut that will produce a 55 character text string. For example, when I hit Control + Alt. + Z, I want Windows to insert FJDKSALFJSDAFJAKJFKJSDAKFJKSJAKSAJFKSJAFKSJAKLAJSKFLJSA

I was able to find information about how to create a keyboard shortcut for opening a certain program (i.e. Firefox, Word), but nothing about how to use keyboard shortcuts to insert a 55-character string.

How can I do this?

One keyboard shortcut is.... Win key + shift + arrow left . Does anyone know how to take this function and create a desktop icon to do the same thing? THANKS for any help. Undine.

A:From keyboard shortcut to desktop icon.

Win+Shift+Left(Right) moves ACTIVE (focused) window to second monitor, doesn't it?
While clicking on desktop icon your pointer automatically focus on that icon, and your window loses focus, so trick won't work.

By you can try this software, it was made for multiple monitor management

...instead of background colour.

This is a very simple request, somewhat annoying because I KNOW it's simple, but I can't for the life of me remember where to go to change it!!

Basically I just want to know how to see the desktop background wallpaper under an Icon name rather than the colour the desktop background (behind the picture)is set to.

Any help would be most appreciated!

Oh yeah my OS is Win XP Home SP2.

PS. I feel really stupid right now.

A:Showing background wallpaper under desktop icon text...

There's two settings that can cause it.

1. Right click the desktop and choose 'arrange icons by' and make sure that 'lock web items on desktop' is unchecked.

2. Open the Control Panel and select System. On the Advanced tab click the settings button under Performance. The box for 'use drop shadows for icon labels on the desktop' should be checked.

Hi all. Irritating & timewasting beyond belief - even for Microsoft - is a hidden shortcut in either Outlook 2007, Office 2007 or perhaps in Windows 7. Centred apparently on the "T" key, a combination of keystrokes reduces the display size of text I type. At enormous waste of time, each occurrence can be remedied, via the View tab in Outlook 2007, then the "zoom" facility. But how do I a) locate the set up instructions for this shortcut, and b) alter or reload them?

I'm a reasonably sensitive typist: this glitch is wasting sooo much of my time. Am in the dire straights of using new Windows 7, with new Office 2007 apps, on a new laptop, a Dell Inspiron 1545.

Advice on shortcut set-up in Outlook 2007, and or in Windows 7 will be much appreciated. Thanks

Hi everyone,

I have a problem that I hope I will be able to solve with your help. On my WinXP laptop, I used to have all the function keys assigned to programs to be executed when pressing F2, F3 etc. Now I have deleted those program files, and every time I press one of the function keys, Windows starts searching for that file, instead of doing the normal function (eg in Word 2003: F7 - check spelling). How can I change this back to normal?

Thanks for your help

my computer stopped showing up in hdmi, I plug my computer into my lcd tv, I have tested the hdmi cable and the tv by using a different computer, so that isnt the issue. moving on...

so I plug my hp g6 desktop computer into my tv via the hdmi port, which used to show up on screen no problems, but now its not showing up at all, the led on the front of the computer stopped working as well which i dont know if its related or not.

The computer only has one hdmi port on the back of my gigabyte nvidia gtx 770 4gb video card which was only bought last year, I tested the computer using another video card which also only has a hdmi port which also didnt show a screen.

I'm now stuck with a computer that boots but doesnt show a screen, seeing as this is happening with both video cards I suspect its not a video card issue either, so I'm stumped as to what I can do next, I dont have a card with a vga output to use.

A:no vga input, only hdmi, no screen showing up at all

How do you know it boots? I'm betting it doesn't boot and hence the no video and no LED on the front of the computer.

I'd start by trying another power supply but be sure it can handle the Geforce GTX 770 which requires a minimum of a 600 watt power supply.

Also, what power supply do you have now? And what motherboard, CPU, and RAM?

For instance, if I highlight a word in a text-entry field, it's a very bright blue. This is also true in Firefox, Thunderbird, Word, OneNote, various fora, etc. but not in Excel.

Prior to installing Windows 10, the highlight in a text-entry field was either pale grey (on dark backgrounds) or darker grey (on light backgrounds), which is what I'd like to have back.

Any ideas?

Open up Notepadcopy the registry settings in the code box(left click 3 times slowly)Paste into NotePadYou will need to find the RGB values(if the ones I have supplied are not what you want) for the color you want, and change them.Create a registry file by saving(to Desktop or Documents) as TextColor.regDouble click the reg file.Sign out, sign in and your finished. To change the values just right click the file and choose edit, make the changes, save, close and see point #6

Windows Registry Editor Version 5.00

"Hilight"="192 192 192"
"MenuHilight"="192 192 192"
Light Gray RGB=192 192 192
Darker Gray RGB= 105 105 105

Prior to 8.1 we were able to deploy Internet Shortcut icons using Group Policy and the short cut showed the correct icon image we specified however on 8.1 only the blue IE icon with white logo is shown for any internet link published in this way. The only
workaround is to use Pin site to apps in Internet Explorer using the Favicon but this quite a small image and not a full tile size.

I've seen articles about deploying customized startscreens however this is not an option for us due to already using 8.1 and users dont want to loose their existing icon layouts / customizations.

Would appreciate any advise on this matter if possible.

Hi guys,

I recently built my computer, about 3 months ago. Everything has been working great great up until this morning. When I first turned on my computer it lead me to a black screen saying to put in a boot device or something. I thought it was a random error so I restarted it and from that point on it only goes to the "ASUS" screen.

In that screen has a list of four keys and their routes, "f8 - boot menu" etc. I cannot access any of these because the keyboard seems to be off or null at this time. I tried another keyboard (both non usb, traditional slot ones) and it had the same effect.

So I tried to figure out what the issue is. I have two sticks of ram and I switched them, than tried one and then the other, nothing changed. I have two internal hd's, one for my os and the other for storage. When I unplugged the storage one nothing changed. When I unplugged the os one it seemed to change. The keyboard worked during the mobo screen this time and I was able to press "f8" to open a blue window on black that allows me to switch boots... However, I don't know what to do since the os is on the unplugged hd, so what am I to boot to? And if I boot to the cd I can't change anything on the unplugged hd?

So, please any help! Why is my computer stuck on that (i haven't installed or changed any hardware since I built it) screen and what should I do to fix it?

Hello, I use online accounting software (KashFlow) and part of entering invoices involves clicking into a date input field.  It is one of those where a little calendar shows when you click into the field.  You can also manually type a date into this field too. However. On my brand new Yoga 920 using Chrome and Firefox the date input fields are greyed out and a red 'no access' icon shows when you hover over them.  But you can still click it and the calendar pops up as normal.  The only difference is you can NOT type into them anymore. When the source for the page is viewed it looks like the fields have been designated 'readonly'. There is no such problem on any other computer I own, even when using Chrome or Firefox.  The date fields work perfectly well on these other computers - even on a Sony Xperia tablet I own. The only browser that works properly on my Yoga is Edge.  The date fields work as they should.  It's just Chrome (my main browser) and Firefox where they don't work. This seems like a Lenovo-based problem.  A little Google has revealed a couple of similar problems with other Lenovo users. Does anyone have any clue on how to fix this?  This is utterly bizarre behaviour and it's preventing me from working properly. I have attached a photo showing the problem when using Chrome.  These fields should never be greyed out. Thanks,Matt

I upgraded my laptop to Win 8.1 a few days ago and everything seemed to be working fine. Anybody got any ideas how to fix this? It's not a big deal since I rarely use IE but it bugs me now that I know about it. I just checked on a netbook I upgraded and don't see the issue there.

In February 2012 I bought a desktop PC in the firm Gorenje and both summers I had some issues with it.
The first summer I was making a video for a friend of mine using Windows Live Movie Maker, my computer crashed in the middle and I got the blue screen of death, that was the only time that year that my PC gave me the blue screen of death. I had no other problems that year.
And hen this year I got this.
The first one was when one of my hard drives ran out of space somewhere in July, I asked my uncle if he could help me figure out what was wrong and he found out that safety copies were clogging up my hard drive, I wasn't there when he was fixing it so I don't know what he did, then my PC was working like it should.
Until now somewhere in the beginning of August. One night it randomly turned itself on, I always keep it in sleep mode, and I was about to turn it off when it turned itself off, I just shrugged it off and went back to bed, then a few hours later I woke up and couldn't go back to sleep so I decided to just browse the internet for a while, I tried to wake it up from sleep mode by pressing the space bar, but it didn't, then I though that maybe the powers went out some time in between so I tried to turn it on only to find out that it was in sleep mode. I then tried to log into Tumblr but the keyboard wasn't working, the mouse was working. I checked in the back and no cables were pulled out, so I thought I'd reset it, but it then crashed and I got th... Read more

A:Keyboard not working, blue screen of death, monitor saying there's no input.

One step at a time !
Make sure your computer is switched OFF, then pull the power plug out for at least 30 seconds. Plug it back in, switch on the computer.
Do you see the BIOS screen?  Does the computer then start normally ?
If you don't see the BIOS screen, are you getting any lights on the front panel showing on, or flickering ?  The power light should be steadily on, the hard drive and optical drive lights should flicker. If the power light is not on, you may have a faulty power supply.
If you get to see the BIOS screen and the display then goes blank, restart and press the 'F8' key while you can see the BIOS screen. This should bring up the 'Boot Options Screen' which is a black screen with white text on it. Use the Up and Down arrows to select the option 'Last Known Good Configuration'. This should start your computer in a condition before this trouble started.
If it doesn't, post back and tell us whether or not you could see the BIOS screen, and give the make and model of your computer. And for the future, don't put your computer to sleep when you are not using it - turn it off.

I have a Dell D610 laptop w/ XP Pro SP2... or had.

I have a corrupted registry entry hosing the keyboard input. The mouse works fine up until the point when I kit the first key on the keyboard when under the Graphical Windows interface. After I hit any key, the mouse freezes as well. This happens if I use the laptop keyboard or an external keyboard connected to a PS2 jack.

I have performed hours of troubleshooting and it is not the keyboard hardware. Keyboard input works during all non-graphical UI (BIOS, Recovery Console, etc.). I even removed the drive and plugged it in to another computer. I made a copy of the WINNT\system32\config files (sam, default, security, system, software) and replaced them w/ a copy of these files from WINNT\repair. The computer boots to Graphical Windows and I am able to type in this session just fine.

How can I "erase" the keyboard driver corruption in the registry (or perhaps a corrupted driver file or set of files)? The problem is that I can't boot the system to a point where I can edit the "corrupted" keyboard entries. I can't use the Recovery Console because I don't have the Administrator password. So I tried to install SP3 from a bootable CD. The minute it asks me to type in the Product Key (a graphical dialog box), input is frozen a the first keystroke (even a key like Caps Lock). Can I actually edit the registry that resides on the boot drive while it is connected to another computer? Any other suggest... Read more

Hey all

Searched the WWW for an answer and I have only found one thread even remotely close to this issue.
Basically, every input field is reverse contrast. Black background typing white. Microsoft Word, Excel, IE, File Explorer, Google Chrome. Anywhere requiring selection of icons or input of text... The contrast is reversed. (four screenshots attached) Minor major annoyance, but it came accompanied by a more consistently running fan and then the computer began to freeze intermittently. I ran Malwarebytes. I ran Norton. I adjusted so Windows did not pick display prefs auto, then back again. I booted in Safe Mode, issue still there. Re-installed all sorts of drivers, repaired Windows, etc. I system restored. Issue still there. I system refreshed, Issue still there...

I literally have no programs on my computer right now except the basic out of the box Windows 8 apps...and still the issue persists.

Any ideas? I appreciate any input

Hit Right Alt-Shift plus PrintScreen, then change to a regular Theme. Be careful if you have other Windows 8 Puters, cos that HC theme was Synced.

I am creating a form on word 2003 with Text Form Fields. At several points throughout the form the same information needs to be entered (eg: name). Does anyone know if there is a way to make it so that if you enter the date into the first 'name' text form field it will automatically put the same information into the other text form fields labelled name?

Currently I have a desktop shortcut to PuttyCyg (a modified version of PuTTY) which I have configured Ctrl+Alt+C as a keyboard shortcut to launch the program. Trouble is, once there is one instance of the program open, when I enter Ctrl+Alt+C again, instead of opening another instance of the program, it brings the window of the currently open instance to the front. This is strange, because when I actually click on the shortcut multiple times, the default behavior is to open multiple instances of the program. How can I change it so that hitting the keyboard shortcut forces new instances to open? Do I have to resort to things like writing a VBScript?

Running Windows Vista Home Premium SP2.
In Firefox and Chrome, I'm getting plus signs as though I'm holding the '+' key- in the address bar, search box (both browser and google web page) and in any field for text entry in Gmail. Ongoing about 3 weeks.
I've run AntiVira, MSE, and malwarebytes (now running the latter again), all negative.
Not sure if related but earlier today the entire system became unstable, requiring a reboot. Only the '+++++++++' issue since reboot.
Hope someone can help.

I am running Vista Premium SP1 on a Dell Inspiron E1505. I have a new problem where I can not enter any text in any browser field, IE or FireFox. The text field appears but I can not click on the field and enter text. I have tracked the problem to a corrupt or imcompatible dll called mshtmled.dll located in c:\windows\system32 folder.

How do I extract and install this dll with any of it's related dll's in Vista?

I have an Access database to manage inspection checklists. I use the question references to sort the checklists so that the questions appear in the same order as the books they come from. I use two fields for this, one for the book, a second for the paragraph. The paragraphs in the book are numbered, with subsecitons and sub-sub sections, ex: Of course, Access doesn't sort these as numbers - so any reference that has a 10 in it is sorted before 2. I used the following code to break the references into separate digits: (only the fifth place is shown here, but the rest are similar)

Part V: Val(Mid([Ref2],InStr(InStr(InStr(InStr(1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,InStr(InStr(InStr(InStr(InStr(1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")-InStr(InStr(InStr(InStr(1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")+1,[Ref2],".")-1))

The problem is, if a reference has less than 5 sections (say 14.6), the third through fifth colums read "#Error". This makes it impossible to sort, giving an "Invalid procedure call" error.

Is there a way to either assign a zero to the "#Error" cells, or to make a sort ignore them? I'm not extremely proficient with Access, but am learning as I go.

BTW, the database has over 6,000 questions, so I would like to avoid re-entering them by... Read more

A:Sorting text fields as numbers

Maybe by creating an update query?
Create a query where you do just that, replace error with 0 using the conditional if statement? IIF(not numeric,0,value) ???

I am running Windows XP Home and IE6.

For the last couple of weeks I have noticed that whenever I place my cursor in the text field in a form, words start typing by themselves if I hesitate to fill in trhe field. 95% of the time, the word "if" is being typed repeatedly.

I have scanned my hard drive for viruses, trojans, etc. I have also run Ad-Aware for any spy software. My machine is clean.

Any suggestions?

Many Thanks,

Earlier I was playing an online game (Final Fantasy XI) when my screen began to behave strangely. I logged out, and then noticed that a TextPad window I had open began to fill with "+++++++++++++++++++++++" as though the plus key was stuck. I checked my keyboard (Logitech wireless LX710) and didn't see any obvious issues.

None the less, I shut-down the computer, swapped keyboards with my other PC and booted up again. The problem did not follow the keyboard, it remained on my first PC.
I tried a corder USB keyboard, and it does the same thing. Initially I can sometimes login because the "+++++++++++++" begins - but it is hit and miss. I generally need to reboot 2-3 times before I can login.

I have removed the Logitech software and installed the latest edition.

I have run McAffee and Spyware Doctor, but nothing was found.

Does this sound like any Virus, Trojan or Worm anyone has run across?

A:Virus? Text fields fill with +++++++++++

Meh... it was mouse-related.

After much swapping of gear, several virus scans, and copying a ton of data from the "bad" PC to my other PC (just in case), I tracked the issue down to my Logitech MX700 mouse.

I had swapped-in a corder mouse earlier, but apparently I was too hasty in eliminating the mouse as the issue.

Now I am back up a running, with my cordless keyboard - no issues. Just using a vanilla Dell corded mouse for the time being, until I can determine if the MX700 is salvageable.
