How to move a picture file on 8.1 to a picture folder...

Q: How to move a picture file on 8.1 to a picture folder...

It turns out that if I download a picture file to the photo app in 8.1, without putting it in a particular pre-existing folder, the file goes into the general area of the app displayed alongside several other non-related pictures. Okay, no problem. But for the life of me, I can't figure out how to then move a single image file into one of the pre-existing folders I had created at an earlier time. If your suggestion is to open both the folder and the picture file side by side on the screen and then click and drag, I have no idea how to do that. Is there no way to right-click the image and find a way to select "move to", or something along those lines; or is there a pull-down menu that I can't find with the app open that contains a command to "move to"?
Any suggestions?
Thanks so much,
Neil

Preferred Solution: How to move a picture file on 8.1 to a picture folder...

I recommend downloading and running Reimage. It's a computer repair tool that has been proven to identify and fix many Windows problems with a high level of success.

I've used it in the past to identify and fix everything from blue screens (BSOD's), ActiveX errors, corrupt files and processes, dll/exe/sys errors, recover lost memory, Windows update problems, defragging, malware removal etc.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloadreimage.com/download.php. (This link will automatically start a download of Reimage that you can save to your computer.)

Well, you have many options. What you are looking for is this:

Context Menu - Add Copy To Folder and Move To Folder - Windows 7 Help Forums

But you can just copy the pics and paste them into the folder you like.

The side by side is easy too. Just open the source folder and press WIN + Right arrow. Then open the target folder and press WIN + left arrow, Now you can drag and drop from one folder to the other.

Hi all,
I've done a quick search but couldn't find someone else with this problem. Sometimes when I want to copy or move a file to my picture folder it will not appear on the list of folders. Every other folder and sub folder will appear but not the picture folder or any sub folder in it. It's been driving me nuts as I recently bought photoshop cs4 and need to put things in the pictures folder nearly every day. A restart sometimes solves the problem but not always. I'm using Vista Premium 32 bit SP1.

OK here is the problem I have been dealing with and I can’t ignore it any longer because I am now locked out of almost every one of my files and folders.
It started with my dragon software …one by one after I would get a new user all set up to replace the old one everything would be fine for about a week and then it would tell me that the user I was using needed to be upgraded because it had been created by an earlier version of Dragon naturally speaking …except I’ve only had the one version on my computer the whole time
Then I discovered that after I would put some word files into a folder to keep things organized when I would go back to open and use those files I was told "word cannot open the document; user does not have access privileges" except I haven't assigned any privileges to those files and I don't even know how if I wanted too. The files would open just fine until I moved them into a folder ...but that’s not all ...Photos would become completely unusable after being moved into a folder ...where I would once get a bunch of thumbnails to look at to find the photo I was looking for I now get a message that tells me "No Preview Available" ...and it's not just the preview that isn't available I can't open the photograph and see the image at all. ...but that’s not all ...when I try to move any of these newly worthless files I have to use an unlocker program to even move them ...and it's only one at a time. Oh boy! More Windows 7 frustrations. Please help.

I have folders containing audio files (mostly audio books) with completely irrelvant and stupid pictures on them which I cannot change!!! There is no customisation tab on the properties menu like Vista.

I now have an audio book based on picking up women with a strange looking woman on it and an audio book on Atheism by Betrand Russell with a big, fat gospel singer on the front because Windows Media Player thinks that it is an album by a singer which it isn't! Even the files have the same incorrect picture which I am helpless to change.

This is so damn dumb! Why can't I change the picture on the front? Am I stuck with it?

Any ideas?

A:Cannot Change Folder or file picture/icons!!!

I prefer all folders to be "general" rather than content related - a "pictures" directory is a hinderance to my style of work. Sounds like your situation is similar...here is how I set the directories and folders.

> I use the tried and true OLD explorer view where you see the tree display on the left.

> I use the tried and true OLD explorer view to include the Menu bar.

> Select the desired folder from the left nav pane such as Desktop>Libraries>Pictures.

> Right click on the folder and select Properties.

> Click the Optimize this library for: drop list and select General Items.

> Click Apply then click OK.

> From the Menu bar click View>Choose details... and select (or deselect) items as desired.
I hope that at least gets you started.

Hi everyone. I was browsing one of my picture folders and noticed another folder in there. I looked in it and there was a bunch of files with various file types in there. I have no idea how it got there and so I deleted it. How could it have gotten there?

A:Why did a folder with random file types get in one of my picture folders?

It would help in knowing as to what types of files they were. I mean, more information would help at this point. Chances are you accidently extracted or moved files to that location. Could be a virus? Who knows?

Hello,

When I upload pictures from my camera, I can't make any changes to the folder the pictures upload to or any subfolders I create within that folder. For example, my pictures will upload into a folder with todays date. Then I can go in and create new folders to sort all the pictures into. I then try to cut and paste each folder to a different location and it tells me that i need admn permissions for this but I am the administrator so I don't understand. I also can't rename the original folder from the date to anything else. However, I can cut and paste the pictures to another folder outside the original one and then delete it. It's very time consuming and frsutrating but I can't seem to find any solutions to it online?? Has anyone else come across this? I have a very basic knowledge of computers - but I would like to avoid taking it to someone to look at it as that can be very costly

Any help would be appreciated!!

Thanks,

Amanda

A:Help! Unable to move picture folders or rename them

I have been doing a "work-around" that works very well for me, and allows me to customize the photos in any way that I wish. Here's what you can do: When you're in the process of uploading your photos, change the pre-set destination location of the upload from the default location to your "Pictures" folder. (Or, if you can't do that with your camera, perhaps you can move the uploaded folder immediately over to your Pictures folder.)

Then, open the new Pictures sub-folder with Microsoft Office Picture Manager -- which is a great photo app that is standard on all Vista machines (but not the default so most people don't even realize that it's there.) M.O. Picture Manager allows you to do whatever you want with the photos - edit them, resize them, rename them, and much more. Once you have successfully edited your photos, you could, if you wish to, put them in newly created additional Picture folders with different names, for any of your different images.

PS If your system won't let you "move" the uploaded photo folder, you might be able to fool the system by just "copying" the folder, and "pasting" it into your Pictures folder.

PPS For the real answer to your question re: the "administrator" issues, there's some great advice in the Tutorial section regarding running your system and accessing files as the Adminstrator. Here's a couple of them and there's more:

I have found this BUG in Micrososft Word 2007, that I consider to be a SERIOUS ISSUE for Microsoft Office Suite.

If you copy an image from a website and paste in the Word file, the image pastes successfully the first time,
but as you go on & paste other images from the site,
the first image is repeated over and over again, in place of other images (which have the same dimensions).
All other text data remain same, the image titles remain same, but only the image is repeated over and over

PLZ SOMEONE...
HOW TO FIX THIS PROBLEM?

Hi and welcome to SevenForums,
I would not advise pasting images in doc files like that,
I would use ms Paint to paste or save picture as
I would really recommend using the windows snipping tool to get the images that way no bugs are being transferred to the machine or programs,
Then use the Insert image option in word...
It's just a safer way to do an operation,
Cheers.

Hello newbiew, and welcome to Eight Forums.

Since you Microsoft account is synced by default, then it most likely automatically changed back after syncing.

If you wanted to have the same user account picture for all devices, then changing it for everything should help.

If you only wanted to change it on this PC, then you could turn off syncing for Appearance under "Personalization settings" using the tutorial below.

I fixed the issue by just moving the folders out of the offending folder (My Documents say). Is this kosher? Since I use these folders on another hard drive, could I just delete them from THIS folder?
EDIT drop the whole libraries thing. off topic.

A:Can I safely delete or move My Music,Videos, Picture folders?

Libraries are not a complicated topic. They're just a folder that allows you to "view" multiple folders as a single location. Say you have 3 flash disks, and each of them have mp3's on them. You can define all three as part of your Music library, and you can view them as a single set.

Not complicated at all.

If you only have one folder on a different drive, then just set that folder to be your only music location for the library. That way tools that use the Music special location will find it, no matter where it exists.

I was a little too quick with my clicking, and instead of opening the folder containing my pictures, I dragged it into another folder called "14941b93d3ad9f41aa7df524fe". I have previously done some googling on the folders and since they, apparently, weren't harmful, I decided not to do anything about them. After I put my picture-folder into the folder of doom I pressed ctrl+z and get the error message "Folder not available...No access"(screen shot). I don't think that you can change any settings on this. WPG is designed to open images, not folders. If you could change the setting you might end up in a situation where WPG would try to open evey folder no matter what one you clicked on.

I am trying to rename a picture folder and everytime I try ANY name I get a message that I cannot rename the file because : it is being used by another person or program & to close before trying again. My pictures are the only thing open, not even on the internet; just trying to sort out my pictures & make the folders reflect what is in them. I can rename other folders, just not that one. Any ideas?

Ask for help one more time, maybe someone can tell me what happened in simple language how to fix.

Took Dell DE051, Windows XP Home, to shop to have modem replaced, and he cleaned up Desktop, added AVG, Ad-Ware 2007, SpBot and SpywareBlaster.

Now when I attempt to download pictures from the Web, into My Pictures folder, even though the picture is a jpg, I can only save as .art or .bmp options, the Save As Type has changed, used to show All Files, Enhanced Metafile, Windows Metafile, JPEG File Interchange Format and Portable Network Graphics. What would cause this? How can I correct? Will someone please take the time to assist me, explaining how to fix, step by step.

Somehow the pictures in my wife's picture folder all have a small padlock icon on each picture and they won't open. It says you don't have permission to open this file. I have been searching trying to find out how to unlock the pictures but nothing is working. The pictures on my user are working fine. Does anyone have any suggestions? Thank you to everyone for your input.

Simple enough, when i upload my pictures with a flash card to my pictures, everything works fine except: instead of the wizard automatically creating a folder for the uploading pictures, they are downloading as individual thumbnails. How do i have it automatically create it's own folder like it used to.

This afternoon I transferred some photos from my camera to the computer. I then put them into a new folder and now can't remember the name I chose.
I am using Firefox as a browser and can't remember how to switch to Windows Explorer. I remember in Explorer that I could view recent folders, but I cannot find that option in Firefox.
Can anyone steer me in the right direction?
