Q: T470 Toshiba NVMe 512G SSD drivers

Hi everyone, I recently bought a T470 and it came with a Toshiba 512GB Nvme drive (I think its XG4). Just wondering if those of you with this drive are using the default windows drivers or the drivers made for the OCZ-RD400 drive as shown in this thread (https://www.win-raid.com/t29f25-Recommended-AHCI-RAID-and-NVMe-Drivers.html).I have read some comments on how there is poorer performance on this drive compared to the Samsung PM961 drive and I was wondering if you guys have noticed the same with the T470.Thanks for your input

I recommend downloading and running DAP. It can help sort out any driver and firmware related issues on your system

It's worked out well for many of us in the past.

You can download it direct from this link http://downloaddap.org. (This link will open the download page of DAP so you can save a copy to your computer.)

I own a T470 with a Lenovo branded 256GB NVME drive, running Windows 7. The drive is thnSn5256gpuk according to device manager. Looks like this is a rebranded OCZ XG3/4 drive. --- I am getting fairly inconsistent write performance on this drive. According to both crystaldiskmark and as benchmarks, the write performance will sometimes be 700mb/s, other times 300mb/s. I can run the test once, it will show up 700mb/s, run again, and it will be 300mb/s. --- I have tried switching over to the ocz nvme windows 7 drivers, which work just fine btw. But to no avail, microsoft nvme drivers or the ocz ones, both have the same symptoms. --- Anyone able to get consistent write performance from this setup? --- NOTE: Please don't sudgest upgrading my bios, flashing the newest firmware on the ssd or making sure write cache is enabled in device manager... Or any of the low hanging fruit... I've spent about 5 hours trying to get proper (as per the spec of the drive, from the toshiba site) write performance on this drive.

Hello everyone, I have a T470s shipped with a Toshiba 512GB NVMe SSD. It shows about 1.2GB/s and 610MB/s on sequential read and write speeds both on Windows 10 and Linux systems. These speeds are much lower than I expected. Are these speeds normal, especially the write speed? The speeds are got from CristalDiskMark 5.2.1 in Win10, and `hdparm` and `dd` on Linux. Does anyone else have the same model tested on read/write speed? Could you please share your test results? TIACnZhx

Can you pull the exact SSD model number out of device manager?

I am wondering what the best choice is to squeeze the best performace out of this NVMe SSD. Some say chance the bios setting to ACHI and some say use Intel RST Premium.  I read this post from reddit:The issue is that Lenovo was making use of a disgustingly ugly hack to make it appear that a NVMe device was attached through an ACHI controller. Intel apparently added this functionality to recent chipsets as a shortcut to adding NVMe support to their fake RAID system. This feature is mostly undocumented and completely unwanted by anyone running Linux or using OS-provided software RAID under Windows instead of Intel's software RAID. So far, Intel has not convinced the relevant Linux kernel developers to add the necessary hacks to the Linux NVMe and AHCI drivers. In any normal situation, a motherboard firmware setting for AHCI vs RAID vs IDE modes has nothing to do with PCIe SSDs, because they do not connect through SATA ports. There are no PCIe SSDs on the market that the user can toggle between NVMe and AHCI, though there are still some AHCI PCIe SSDs that are based on the same hardware as their NVMe equivalents and are simply configured in the factory (permanently) as AHCI devices instead of NVMe. If a machine purports to offer a firmware option to change between AHCI and NVMe modes, it is lying to you about what that option means. If the choice is between AHCI and RAID modes but it affects PCIe SSDs, then selecting ACHI mode probably means the system will operate in a... Read more

We have just purchased a Zbook 15u G3 that has a Toshiba m.2 NVME drive in it. This is the first one we have gotten with this drive, as the others have the Samsung 951 drive. We use MDT 2013 to deploy Windows 7 to our PCs and laptops which I have the Samsung driver injected into the image as well as the Microsoft updates. The problem I am having is, when I deploy our image to the laptop with the Toshiba drive, I get the wonderful blue screen because I don't have the drivers for the Toshiba installing during the imaging process. I have the Samsung drivers loading and I can deploy with no issues at all, but cannot without the NVME drivers for the Toshiba drive. Is there anywhere I can get these drivers?

Hi,  I have a T470 with a Toshiba NVMe disk and recently bought a Samsung 970 Pro in order to replace the original one.  I put the two drives on another computer but the original drive seems to be bitlocked. So, I put the original drive back to check for the bitlocker status. Here is the info from the manage-bde -status command:  Disk volumes that can be protected withBitLocker Drive Encryption:Volume C: [Windows][OS Volume]Size: 237.23 GBBitLocker Version: 2.0Conversion Status: Used Space Only EncryptedPercentage Encrypted: 100.0%Encryption Method: XTS-AES 128Protection Status: Protection OnLock Status: UnlockedIdentification Field: UnknownKey Protectors:Numerical PasswordTPM How am I going to clone the drive? Do I need to disable any protection before starting the process? Or am I just going to put the two drives together and run a clonning software? Any suggestions for a software?

Before removing the HDD from my T470 I made a Clonezilla image.  I then installed the Samsung 960 and restored the image.  Unfortunately upon booting into Windows I was greeted with "Your PC ran into a problem and needs to restart", so that did not work.  I have done many Clonezilla images and restores, but not between two completely different drive technologies.  So if anyone has been able to get this to work with either a T470 or similar laptop, what cloning software did you use, and did you do it with an image backup/restore, or direct clone with the HDD connected to the laptop with either a SATA to USB, or SATA to USB-c cable (If that's the case what cable worked OK)..

That depends.  Are we spending your money or mine?

Given your use case I'd probably use the extra $ to go with a 500GB 2.5" SSD.  Then again, I'm a spec snob and might not be able to resist the NVMe drive.

As you've already figured out, the 470 only uses 2 PCIe lanes so that limits the NVMe SSD to something like 1700MB/sec.  The SATA unit would be more like 500MB/sec or so.  In practice, you'd probably never notice a difference.

My new purchased T470s laptop (Serial Number: PC0S7E53 Machine Type Model: 20HGS24J00) is equiped with a 256GB PCLe SSD. The SSD is neither Samsung nor Toshiba. It's called LENSE20256MSP34MEAT2A ?! I don't even know how to search the specs of such part, as there is totally no information for such ssd in Google! But the key point is the SSD obtained a relatively low write speed compared with other NVMe SSD. As shown in test record by crystaldiskmark, the write speed is only 160 MB/s. Is this normal? Is it possible to ask for a change of SSD? Because my purchase is still within 7 days. Also, the battery is not that long-lasting as it claimed to be (10.5 hours). I charged until 100% and use the laptop for document reading with some online search in Wikipedia. The battery performance has been set to "better battery" and I didn't play videos and music in the process. The battery runs into 17% in 4 to 5 hours. Although I didn't expect it will hit 10.5 hours, but it is too much beyond that???? Could everyone help me with this? Is it normal or is that any possible solutions? Thank you!

Hello all,I am in the process of upgrading my my ThinkPad T440s and T450. After reading in several articles that it?s possible to remove the WWAN LTE/4G card and replace this with a M.2.2242 (22mm) NVMe PCI-e SSD I started looking for the most suitable M.2 2242 SSD to build in my T440s an in to the T450 After doing some research I ended up buying 2 Toshiba RC100 SSD. To fit in the M.2. PCI-e slots in the above mentioned ThinkPads. These are to be used as Boot disks.(And 2 SamSung 860EVO 250GB to build in the SATA3 connections for storage.)Main reasons:-This Toshiba drive is PCIe 3.0 using only two lanes, rather than the four that the faster drives employ. This is reducing energy consumption and minimizes the risk of overheating (and limits performance).-Due to this limited performance it?s not the fastest (pretty slow vor NVMe) but still super fast compared to SATA3 SSD on 6GB/sec. To me the Toshiba RC100 seemed to be the ideal NVMe SSD to place in my T440s and my T450. I ran in to trouble when installing M.2. Babyfat,

Think Engineering believes the most likely cause of the password issue you are experiencing may be User Selected RAID.

The User Selectable RAID feature made available in BIOS v1.28 does not support HDD passwords within RAID configuration.

To resolve this issue, unconfigure User Selectable RAID once (Warning: this will erase the Windows configuration and all user data), then unset the HDD Password for NVMe storage, then reconfigure user RAID.

Hi:

I have read you can use Acronis True Image to do this but you have to place the 512G in an

that I have found that are USB 3.0 accept an M.2 2280 SSD that has a SATA 3 interface.

You'll be better off imaging the existing system to an external hard drive, and then booting to recovery media and restoring the image once you've swapped the drives.
There is only one external PCIe box I've seen, and it connects to Thunderbolt (it's designed for Mac) -- and it's several hundred dollars -- from Sonnet Technologies.

I don't know what kind of machine you have, where the M.2 card is mounted or how you open the machine, but, in general, disks (or SSDs) can be changed without affecting the warranty.  Obviously, if you break something taking it apart or installing parts, damage you cause is not covered.

However if I am say installing Windows 7 SP1 on say Samsung NVme drive and Samsung has released suitable drivers in the form of INF, SYS and CAT files, do I really need to integrate these MS Hotfixes in Windows 7?
Can Windows 7 SP1 supplied with Samsung NVMe drivers (Either slip streamed or during install) be able to detect Samsung NVMe drive and install itself on to it?
As the title says are those MS Hotfixes a must (sort of pre-requsite) to get NVMe drive detected during installation, apart from any vendor provided drivers?

I'm looking to buy a new laptop and I want to buy the OMEN with the 512 GB SSD but acording to this thread on the older models the SSD only option did not come with the necessary brackets to install an after market 2.5'' drive. Does anyone know if the new OMEN laptops have this same bracket issue?

Hi, Same. The bracket only comes with dual storage configuration. Regards.

Hi, I am the owner of a laptop, Toshiba Tecra S4. Windows XP is installed, but I cannot get in anymore because I don't know the password. I now want to install W7, but now the laptop cannot find any driver. How is this possible and how can I install drivers?

A:Drivers toshiba s4

How are you installing Windows 7? To install Windows 7 you would boot off of the Windows Install Media (eg) DVD or USB flash drive, and then choose your language, then Install then Custom Install.
Once you have installed Windows 7, go to Start/Search and type devmgmt.msc, Right click the devmgmt results and Run As Administrator. In the Elevated Device Manager, any devices that have a yellow flag need drivers.
Go to the Toshiba Support page Toshiba Laptop Support homepage - Toshiba type in your exact model # and choose what version of Windows 7 you have (eg) 32bit (x86) or 64 bit and download the drivers you need starting with the Chipset driver. If you do not have Internet do this on another computer and save the drivers to a USB Flash Drive to install to the laptop.

I updated my Toshiba Satellite M45-S3553 laptop from XP to Win-7. I used OEM System Builder Pack, and though Win-7 operates OK, but WiFi, LAN and the sound does not operate. The Device Manager reports that the drivers are not installed for the following devices:
Mass Storage Controller
Multimedia Audio Controller
Network Controller
Video Controller

In an attempt to reinstall the drivers using the Toshiba Recovery CD, it reports it cannot because the operating system (Win-7?) is not supported.

Have downloaded several drivers from Toshiba Product Support, but they either will not install, or will not operate.
Would appreciate any help the resident guru's could provide!
